Villa Dei Misteri

Villa Dei Misteri descritpion
Just 5 minutes from the archeological site, this hotel takes its name from the ruins of an ancient Pompeian villa located on the same street.
The villa is known for a fresco portraying the initiation rites (or "mysteries") of the Dionysian cult. The hotel's relaxed family atmosphere has made it especially popular among archeologists and architecture schools. It is also perfect for anyone who wants to visit the area away from the city traffic within easy reach of major transportation points.
The pool is in the shape of a classic vase and is 100 feet long. A long sun deck stretches above the pool. During the summer, part of the sun deck is used by the restaurant for outdoor dining. A small meeting room, seating up to 40 people, can be used to gather before visiting the archeological digs or as a classroom.

Reviews for Villa Dei Misteri
Review 1:The restaurant was not the best italy has to offer
Review 2:The receptionists are very welcoming and genuinely helpful. In terms of location/value for money, the place is like a lovely oasis in the otherwise run down hotel/camping district of Pompeii (the antique city is just a 5 mins walk away). I was allowed to use the pool although I arrived late and the staff really helped me find alternatives when my regular travel route closed due to a fire nearby. Overall, this seems like one of those traditional family owned hotels, very well looked after and a friendy, calm atmosphere. I would definately consider coming back again
Review 3:The hotel is a bit dated: could do with a revamp.
Review 4:Superbly located to Pompeii archaeological centre. The room was good as were the staff. Breakfast was reasonable.
Review 5:This hotel was more of a motel, but it was very affordable, super close to Pompei Scavi train station (and the ruins entrance) and the staff were friendly and helpful. Best of all it had a lovely pool to cool off in after a long day at the hot and dusty Pompei ruins.
Review 6:Breakfast wasn't great, could have been much better
Review 7:Fantastic pool, excellent location right outside Pompeii ruins on nice quiet street, away from traffic, easy short walk to main circumvesuviana station to travel all over the area. Perfect for family of 5.
Review 8:The location of this hotel is fantastic, so close for entry to the ruins, bus to Vesuvius and train station if going to Naples or Sorrento. The bedrooms are fairly basic, e.g. no hairdryers, etc but they are clean, the air con works and you won't be spending a lot of time there. The swimming pool is an excellent advantage over other hotels nearby and we used it everyday after walking in the sun. The hotel team are all friendly and approachable and they made a beautiful cake for our twins' birthday. We will definitely stay here again if we go back to Pompeii.
Review 9:The economy rooms are very tired, they are placed around the pool area a bright paint would really improve their feel, my 2 older children stayed in these rooms and they had a huge problem with ants, the staff sorted the problem on the first night but it was so bad the following night they were rather upset because their room clothes beds were covered with ants. Another quiet word and they were moved which we were grateful, but I think a token discount or complimentary meal would have been welcomed for them, my daughter is only 15 and she woke during the night 2 an army of ants crawling over her in bed. Italians and wifi, I go to Italy a fair bit and they just don't get the wifi thing, I don't rely on hotels cafes or bars for wifi, they are truly stingy with it they don't like to part with it and when you do get the password IT doesn't work, and it dosent work in the hotel, even at the reception. The hotel food is beautifuly prepared but very limited, some snacks to order would be really great, because if you don't have a car it's a walk
Review 10:Really enjoyed this hotel, a family run place from what we could see with excellent staff, very attentive. The location brilliant a few mins walk to ruins and train station, but still a very tranquil feel to this hotel, the town is about a 20 min walk and worth the effort plenty of bars and restaurants on the way and a big supermarket. Our room was in the main part of the hotel a large room with a big bathroom and balcony over the pool and great views of the town and hills. Comfy bath with plenty of linen. The restaurant on site was lovely and the the wine. The pool area very good plenty of pool side furniture the pool is open till 10 pm which is great and no caps needed loads of car parking spotlessly clean The economy rooms are large and have a good big bathroom
Review 11:The staff is great and very helpful. Thank you for making our stay so nice!! The pool is lovely. Close to all the major archeological sites, close to train station.
Review 12:If I was being picky then the wifi was a bit slow.
Review 13:Very friendly staff, in particular the waiting staff. Very clean hotel. The pool was spotless and cleaned every morning, which to be honest I haven't seen most hotels do. We were there midweek and had the pool to ourselves most days :-). Within 5 minute walk of the Pompei ruins. They were kind enough to let me bring my motorcycle into staff carpark and under cover which was a big plus. Great value for money. Would definetely come again
Review 14:No bad experiences but could have done with a fridge in the room.
Review 15:Brilliant location, a few minutes walk from ruins entrance and railway station. Excellent clean swimming pool. Parking outside room.
Review 16:The breakfast was pretty terrible.
Review 17:The location was absolutely perfect for Pompeii, only a 5min walk to the entrance and the train station. The rooms themselves are very basic but fine for a night.
Review 18:Internet connection was free (hurray) but not very reliable. Probably not the hotel's fault.
Review 19:Location was wonderful--walking distance to the Pompeii Scavi and to the train station; hotel staff were helpful and friendly; the young man who checked us in and answered the many questions we had (in both English and Italian) over the next two days was especially good, with a rare sense of humor. The pool is fantastic, deep, wide, and clean. Heaven sent after a hot day of looking at the ruins.
Review 20:Very near the entrance to POMPEII - Beautiful clean swimming pool. Able to park outside our room, securely. Breakfast ok, not a massive selection & pre made instant coffee ( definitely not italian)!! So that was disappointing - overall Good value
Review 21:This felt to be a very very basic Motel. Was not happy with the room. Just a table fan for cooling. Not our type of accommodation at all
Review 22:The location was ok close to pompeii ruins. But in major need of renovation. The motel not the ruins
Review 23:Lack of Internet in the rooms (and its working only erratically even in the lobby) was a big problem. Lack of A/C was not so great either, but perhaps that goes with the price...
Review 24:As said in my "headline": friendly staff, great pool, easy walk to Pompeii.
Review 25:No hot water in the shower at night, no TV or wifi in the room - had to go to the lounge for those.Bed very hard but OK .
Review 26:Value for money, and close to the railway station and the archeological site.Easy to access the Pompeii Tours. Also, the swimming pool was beautiful. Very friendly and helpful staff Also, no cancellation fee within a certain amount of time.
Review 27:We stayed at this hotel 9 years ago and it was dated then. Nothing has changed. The rooms are clean but bare bones. No WI/FI etc. The beds are typical for Italy...minimum comfort.
Review 28:Location, location, location. The pool and friendly front desk.
Review 29:There's honestly nothing I didn't like about this hotel. The shower was a bit awkward to use, but wasn't an issue at all. We visited at what seemed to be quite a quiet time, so there wasn't much life around the hotel, but that's exactly what we were after. We heard the occasional rumble of a train during the day and late evening, think they stopped around 9pm / 10pm, but it was barely noticeable and no louder than the air conditioning in the room.
Review 30:Location was perfect - just a few minutes walk from Pompei Scavi train station on the Circumvesuviana line and just a few minutes from the old city ruins of Pompeii too. We arrived quite late on the first night and the restaurant still served us a lovely meal, very reasonable pricing too. Room was clean with a balcony overlooking the pool. Swimming pool was nice and plenty of sun loungers and seating available around the pool. Staff were very friendly and had reasonably good English too. To be honest we would've spent longer here if we'd have known how nice the place was! Very relaxing stay, a good base to explore or unwind, and we'll definitely be back again. Tremendous value for money, very impressed.
Review 31:Wifi wasn't good in the rooms. The shower is a bath tub with a hand held shower with no screen or curtain
Review 32:Location is fantastic to see the pompei ruins and a great spot to come back for a swim in the gorgeous pool before exploring the ruins further.
Review 33:Indifferent attitude from Staff, ( apart from Chef and Waiter who kept us entertained during dinner). Our room needed a deep clean, replacment of fixtures and fittings. New bed and linen. Overall major refurb programme is due.
Review 34:Location for exploring Pompeii and surrounding area via the local train. Pool.
Review 35:Very, very hard mattress. Almost no pressure/water in the shower. It was very difficult to wash my long hair - I ended up putting the head under the sink to get the soap out.. Clean, okay bathroom, but with a rundown tub.
Review 36:This place was so much better than what we dared to hope for to that price! The pictures in booking.com do not give favour to the villa. Very nice pool, professional restaurant, helpfull people at the desk. The room was simple and somber, but with a lovely balkony. They served the best coffee I have ever drunk at the breakfast! The place is SO close to the ruins and the trains, and within easy walking distance to the little, modern town. The villa is called a motel, but is just as good as several hotels I have been to!
Review 37:Could do with a fridge in the apartment.
Review 38:A small, friendly, absolutely stunning hotel situated right next to the ruins at Pompei. Very good value for money, lovely pool, no fighting for loungers and very peaceful surroundings.
Review 39:Breakfast was low quality in a "restorante" at other side of pool. Overall the Hotel is a little run down but I suppose reasonable for price in that area.
Review 40:Swimming Pool cool and clean. Proximity to Pompei Scavi station , Pompeii ruins entrance and Vesuvius Bus c 400m. The Hotel Receptionists were very friendly and helpful.
Review 41:This place better known as hotel miseri, it was probably great when it was built in the 70's but it hasn't moved forward an inch. Structural cracking in the ceiling and wall of or room, paint flaking off everywhere, fag burns all over the furniture, no shower, antiquated tv, built next to the railway which shakes the building, breakfast was pitiful, the communal area at reception had chairs that were sat-out dirty and considering this place is so close the Pompeii ruins its virtually abandoned. The restaurant at the entrance is boarded up, the gate has fallen off and we booked three nights. We would have left as soon as we had booked in but they would have charged for all booked nights, this place gets artificially high ratings because its so close to the ruins. You make your own decisions but don't say you weren't warned.
Review 42:Nothing to find here, just glad to leave
Review 43:Nothing.
Review 44:The staff was excellent and very friendly it was within A 10 minute walk of the entrance of the Pompeii ruins. Great pool space and excellent restaurant with the food being delicious and staff going above and beyond to make it a special dinner.
Review 45:Décor is tired and very basic. Our room had a bath with a shower attachment-not a stand up shower, ok for a short stay.
Review 46:Pool area-lovely relief from the sun. Restaurant food was ok and reasonable price. Staff were lovely and very helpful. Parking available. 10 mins walk to the ruins so great location. Got a train to Sorrento which was easy and cheap!
Review 47:Breakfast poor quality Wifi was not great, even at reception (plus they limit the number of devices/passwords given out)
Review 48:Swimming pool. 4 min walk to Pompeii ruins Antique feeling to the hotel Easy parking
Review 49:Not enough choice on the dinner menu, No childrens meals,
Review 50:Quiet location, close to station for easy sightseeing, (5 min walk) Friendly and helpful staff,
Review 51:Wifi was rubbish, breakfast was lacking - no fruit just packaged foods mostly
Review 52:Location to pompeiis ruins was excellent - pool and gardens well maintained . Room and bathroom quite large ( a bath ! ) nice and a balcony- good quiet nights sleep.
Review 53:Good quality for that low price, we liked that hotel, very good location 4minutes walking fron ruins and also close 4minutes to train station. Only thing we didnt like was a noisy aircondition but we didnt asked for a reparation because of not so many time spend in the room. Staff was very kind!
Review 54:This place was absolutely disgusting. The room had mould running up the shower screen, shower floor and shower wall. The mould was a huge amount suggesting it hadnt been cleaned in months. The "king size bed" was two single beds of differing heights pushed together. They were hard as a rock and swueaked with every movement. The wi fi did not work at all and management said it was because we had apple i phones which arent compatible with their server??? When we complained about the filthy room and no wi fi we were told its too bad. Breakfast was stale croissants. The service was slack. Reception rude and arrogant. Over all a terrible place to stay. The worst ive ever experienced after six weeks in Europe.
Review 55:Proximity to pompei ruins
Review 56:The food was horrendous. The room was so dated and when we walked through the entrance from the road to the hotel/motel it was like walking into a nightmare. I must say we were very happy we only had to stay one night!
Review 57:The only thing going for this hotel is the location and the pool.
Review 58:A bit far to walk to Pompeii town for dinner (20 min to piazza). Both my girlfriend and I became sick the day after swimming in the pool...
Review 59:Location is very close (5 min) to train station and Pompeii entrance. Pool was great after all day in the sun at pompeii. Decent breakfast.
Review 60:Swimming pool, relaxed atmosphere, helpful staff, good dinner. The location really is perfect and you feel like the lemon groves of the Mediterranean are all around you.
Review 61:Slow internet connection Not enough light to read a book in the room and in the loby
Review 62:Swimmingpool
Review 63:AC, TV out of order
Review 64:clean pool, good breakfast, near ruins
Review 65:very convenient location next to the archaeological site; nice swimming pool
Review 66:Restaurant limited
Review 67:Great location, staff great, pool great
Review 68:Lack of air con
Review 69:The pool
Review 70:friendly personnel - located near Pompei-historical site - swimming pool
Review 71:The location - perfect for Pompeii ruins and away from the town center. Good to come back to afterwards.

Review 73:The amazing swimming pool.
Review 74:Slightly dated furnushings - but immaculate and vlean
Review 75:Lication
Review 76:Very close to the train station and Ruins
Review 77:breakfast was poor , food in restauranr very average.
Review 78:motel was clean and staff were helpful, nice pool good location for circumvenusiana and Pompeii
Review 79:Pool was being cleaned and was empty :( Food in restaurant pretty basic but ok .
Review 80:Location for Pompei excellent
Review 81:Friendly, helpful staff
Review 82:everyone very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast
Review 83:Great pool and very handy for pompei
Review 84:There was no WiFi.
Review 85:No tea or coffee in rooms
Review 86:Pool and food
Review 87:The furniture is a little bit old
Review 88:The location The friendly staff The silence and peaceful atmosphere
Review 89:it is old and is worn out but don't let that put you off staying here as such a perfect location and it has the pool to cool off on those HOT pompeii days
Review 90:Right near the train station (but with no noise at all as it is just the little day train from Naples to Sorrento) and we could walk inside Pompeii within 2 minutes from the motel (yes it is a motel not a hotel)
Review 91:One of the reasons we chose it was because it had a restaurant - which then was then closed for the days we were there
Review 92:Very quiet - only a few rooms occupied while we were there. Lovely view of Vesuvius from the window. Large bathroom
Review 93:Close to train station and Pompei site - just a couple of minutes walk. Central base for visiting Herculanium, Naples, Sorrento and Almalfi Coast. Pool in hotel was lovely. Staff very friendly and helpful - couldn't do more for us. Fireworks in the town every night for some reason!
Review 94:Dirty bed (we found the pyjama of the guy who had the room before, but staff gave us clean linen immediately), however, I guess this was just an "accident"
Review 95:Perfectly located Price ok Breakfast ok Pool super Parking at the hotel
Review 96:The area in the vicinity of the hotel is seedy- particularly by the Scavi from which tons of day trippers descend to visit Pompeii's ruins. The the associated knick knack/ fast food joints are an eyesore. Recommend walking down the hill and entering Pompeii via the quiet entrance adjacent to the Police Station rather than that at the Scavi.
Review 97:This hotel met our family's needs for a one night stop over. The rooms are basic but spotless and importantly, have very effective a/c while the bathrooms are relatively luxurious, large and fully tiled (hand held shower). A simple breakfast included in the rate and was more than adequate. The pool area is great and was a huge plus during blistering heat. We found the hotel staff both charming and courteous.
Review 98:excellent location less than 5 minutes walk from the train station and from the Pompei ruins. Helpful staff.
Review 99:Hard bed, lack of English TV channels
Review 100:Location, friendly staff, pool
Review 101:No chairs in room and no WiFi in rooms and poor WiFi in general.
Review 102:Location and greenery
Review 103:Loud music at neighbouring hotel, no shower, electricity in room a faff to sort
Review 104:Good location, own pool, friendly staff, clean
Review 105:Staff were excellent, right next door to pompei, wonderful pool
