Reviews for Hotel Martino
Review 1:As we were visiting in November for an overnight stay didn't bother with the pool. Very friendly staff. Large hotel room with fabulous views. Lovely breakfast. Loads of free car parking. Watched the sunset from the balcony. Superb
Review 2:We enjoyed our vaccation in November in Basilicata area. It is a very nice time without crowds of tourists. The hotel offeres some highlights like the view from the balcony, the indoor pool, the breakfast with homemade jam, the friendly and helpful staff.
Review 3:Nothing. Perhaps a few more savoury items on the breakfast menu and fewer cakes.
Review 4:Nice room overlooking the sea. Fantastic bathroom with lovely olive scented shampoo and shower gel.
Review 5:While most staff members were very friendly, one young lady at reception had quite a poor and sour-faced attitude. It was a bit of a hike to the beach [even worse coming back] which was very stony with no sand whatsoever.
Review 6:The balcony room was very nice with a great view of the sunset.
Review 7:The lawn areas, especially in front of the pool, were a little unkempt. No parasols provided so you could not sit out as it was too hot.
Review 8:The restaurant food was excellent Italian cuisine - it exceeded our expectations - superior to '3 star'. Fabulous views - very friendly staff, good breakfast. Would stay again.
Review 9:Nice indoor pool but why indoor? Would rather be able to see the view.
Review 10:Easy access from main road SS18. A very good restaurant with tables set out on a terrace under trees with great views across the sea to the setting sun. Popular with locals too.
Review 11:Nothing.
Review 12:Lovely room with perfect sea and mountain views. The private beach. The hotel's gourmet restaurant - as good as it gets in the Mezzogiorno, and that's saying something.
Review 13:Laura from the reception office is a great helping person. the restaurant the food the waiter and the chef where excellent. the view from the room & balcony was great and the pool was very useful.
Review 14:Staff spoke very little english (or me very little italian), i had to ask in italian (very badly) where is beach and got map. Also checkin was embarassing because i was only told when is breakfast and when restaurant opens. Market nearby has very poor offer.
Review 15:I was staying there for four nights, unfortunately weather was not good, so i couldnt swim at that magnificent beach there, which is about ten minutes of walk (not suitable for older people with some kind of disability, it is a hilly region). Hotel has a pool (but you need swimcap or you must buy it). Staff was just great and helpful. Room was very nice and clean, cleaned every day with new towels and showergels etc. Hotel has a restaurant few steps from there. It was only choice where to eat but i dont regret it. Best seafood pasta in Italy. Food was fresh and delicious, i ate there every night eventhough prices were Rome-like. You can buy their homemade products at reception as well as order coffee or whatever on the room. Breakfast was assorted pastries, bread, jams (best lemon marmelade i ever had), cheese, ham etc and hot beverage. There is lot of interesting places in the area but unfortunately i did not have a car and you can walk only on busy road. I paid very little considering the comfort hotel provided (also it was May). Oh, and the views! Sunset from my balcony was just amazing! And very sweetsmelling garden!
Review 16:Friendly, helpful staff. Views from every room. It felt like a luxury hotel and was so much more than expected. Great value. Easy walk to beach and mini-mart.
Review 17:No bad experiences at all, but if you are considering this Hotel, you need to know this is a very hilly region, so you will need to walk up and down EVERYWHERE, which can be difficult if you are out of shape. It's a great opportunity to exercise, though! also, if you are not driving yourself, public transportation is limited (in April) just the train, running a few times per day and taxis, which you need to call.
Review 18:We visited in April, so it was early in the season, no crowds, beautiful weather. We loved the restaurant, the ocean view from our room, the peaceful environment.
Review 19:My wife and I enjoyed three nice days in Maratea and at the Hotel Martino. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The room was large, clean and nicely situated overlooking the water.
Review 20:The hotel is very isolated and not really in walking distance of other restaurants or any bars. And the beach is a heck of a walk away, you really do need a car
Review 21:The food served in the hotel's own restaurant is so good we ate there every night! And the views from both the restaurant and our balcony are just fabulous.
Review 22:The wi-fi was a little difficult in the room , but worked well in the lobby.
Review 23:The setting of the hotel above the beautiful coast was exquisite. The staff at the hotel were wonderfully friendly and helpful. We had lunch overlooking the sea -- a gourmet delight. Our room was comfortable with a beautiful view. Sunset was amazing and then dinner was even better than lunch. All in all, a wonderful stay at a great price.
Review 24:We ate at the restaurant and the fish of the day which was the most expensive dish was quite small.
Review 25:The place is amazing and not expensive we were given a room with a view even when we didn't ask for it and the beaches around are just fabulous. Its quiet and therefore good for relaxation. Breakfast is complete and good.
Review 26:Not much to do. Indoors pool with strong chlorine smell. Rather smallish, lookalike rooms.
Review 27:Nice view onto the sea. Conveniently located at the strada statale. A lot of green. Charming restaurant. Free parking and WiFi.
Review 28:Wifi didn't work
Review 29:We enjoyed our stay at this hotel, easy free parking at hotel. Very good breakfast. Nice to stay and enjoy lovely views. Peaceful location and not so far from centre
Review 30:restaurant staff rather miserable
Review 31:the accommodation and the wonderful view of the bay
Review 32:Beautiful views over the bay
Review 33:Mosquitoes. Felt if grounds tidied up and ornamental pools cleaned would help this.
Review 34:view fab Pool was lovely
Review 35:Beautiful view. Great breakfast.
Review 36:Mosquitoes
Review 37:I liked the hotel so much, that I booked it for two additional days.
Review 38:I loved the place, it was peaceful, calm. I loved. I especially loved the beach,
Review 39:Aircon not that powerful.
Review 40:Absolutely incredible views especially at sunset...beautiful!
Review 41:A good place with a wonderful seaview.
Review 42:Very musty smelling room. Terrible
Review 43:Long distance to the beach
Review 44:Great View
Review 45:Breakfast could have been more imaginative
Review 46:Magnificent scenery, friendly, helpful staff, and dinner in the Neptune ristorante on-site.
Review 47:need more TV options
Review 48:good breakfast big room great views
Review 49:Everything was great. We will definitely return again for a longer stay.
Review 50:Beautiful view, clean comfortable room, nice breakfast.
Review 51:Nothing
Review 52:View, staff, and ambience
Review 53:Restaurant is pricey and not very children friendly.
Review 54:We had a wonderful stay. Room had a great view and indoor swimming pool was a big plus.
Review 55:everything
Review 56:His amazing and strategic position. The sight was awesome
Review 57:Lpacation is 500m from Marina di Maratea train station NOT Maratea train station AND onlt a few trains stop at Marina di Maratea.
Review 58:Drop dead gorgeous location - but don.t tell everyone as it will spoil it! In my opinion only reason it's only rated 3 star is that it's not a new building.
Review 59:The beach is about 15-20 minutes walk, but it's worth it
Review 60:Beautiful sea view, perfect private beach, and excellent service. Have to return here one day.
Review 61:It would be good if Wi-Fi was available in the rooms.
Review 62:Great pool. The location a little way from the beach: you need a car. But a delightful quiet location easy to find. Good restaurant.
Review 63:On a 3-week tour around Southern Italy this May, my husband and I stayed for 2 nights at this quiet, yet comfortably located hotel right by the main road. A nice restaurant linked to the hotel is on the premises. We found the staff very friendly and accommodating. The hotel offers stupendous views of the surrounding mountains and the Policastro Gulf. Ample and secure private parking for guests is also a great asset. Solveig & Jonatan, Reykjavik, Iceland
Review 64:This is a warning and not a complaint (because we knew in advance): it's not in Maratea which is 7 Km up the road.
Review 65:stunning views and beautiful perfumed garden ( hayfever warning). Good restaurant attached. OK breakfast.
Review 66:Only choice of two restaurants within walking distance, however, both were good. For us, 8 pm is a long time to wait for dinner to start, especially after a long, stressful drive to get there! A car is essential to get anywhere around the area.
Review 67:Superb view from balcony overlooking sea (especially the sunsets). Super, heated, indoor pool. Large room. Great value for money! Good breakfast. The sights around are beautiful and interesting - lots to do in the area.
Review 68:There's nothing we didn't like.
Review 69:The place exceeded our expectations, beautiful surroundings, excellent breakfast and very nice staff at the hotel as well as the restaurant.
Review 70:our flight was delayed and the hotel manager waited up for us til way past 1am! then we had to leave early and she packed a breakfast for us to take with us. superb service! great views of the sunset, and close to town though car is essential.
Review 71:The accessibility to a number of very attractive beaches and the excellent view from our room. In October it was a tranquil and relaxing place to stay.
Review 72:Nothing at all well done to the staff at the hotel whilst english is not their language of choice they were most helpful to us
Review 73:Everything, room excellent and spotlessly clean, wonderful view from our room, lovely garden surrounds, staff that went out of their way for us as we had phone problems when we arrived they sorted it out, breakfast plentiful and excellent coffee. At the time only ourselves and one other couple at the hotel
Review 74:It was quite hard to find the hotel, until we re read the booking to realise it was in Maratea Marina - our mistake, but it was an inconvenience. Wifi is advertised as free but only for the first connection, thereafter you had to pay. Note that many facilities close in October.
Review 75:The staff were friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was self service and very generous. The rooms were cleaned daily and the swimming pool was great.
Review 76:Friendly staff, excellent restaurant, proximity to semi-private beach with crystal clear water, very close to nearby town and amenities, outstanding indoor swimming pool, very clean.
Review 77:Excellent location with amazing views from the balconies on the Gulf of Policastro. Large clean and very nice cosy rooms. Pleasant staff. Many points of interest in the district for excursions.Cosy beach within walking distance. Good Breakfast with a good selection of fresh fruits.
Review 78:The pictures of the hotel showed a sauna, which unfortunately costs an extra 35 euro's (per hour!). Quite steep, especially compared to the price of the room. Wifi is only available in the lobby. The restaurant next door is not very good.
Review 79:Our room had an ocean view, which was very nice. There is a large swimming pool and there is a beautiful beach at walking distance from the hotel. The breakfast served in the restaurant next door is very good.
Review 80:Remoteness of the hotel.Car is absolutely required.Beach is very hardly accessible by foot.Especially the way back is nightmare. It's possible to go by car, but parking near the beach is for fee (5 euro). Hotel's beach is also for fee, but there is no info about it on booking.com. Sauna in hotel is for fee as well (35 euro per person). Very strange-no WiFi in the room! Couldn't undestand what a problem to install some more WiFi routers. Hotel's restaurant is closed for siesta and if you arrive in this time - you'll be hungry until 8 p.m. Restaurant menu is overpriced and poor-better go to White Horse pizzeria nearby (5 min walk). So, cancel my 7 nights booking after 2 days and moved to the hotel on a beach with WiFi in the room.
Review 81:Ideal cleanness, polite sfuff, very big and comfortable room with terrace overlooking the sea, breathtaking view from the room's terrace and restaurant. The most generous breakfast I've had in south Italy, but hot dishes are not provided (omlette and so on).
Review 82:A/C not working. A barking dog living close by the resort that wakes up at 5am. Spider with annexed net in the room. Very poor quality of the towels.
Review 83:Great location close to the coast. Professional and kind hosts. Impressively good and large breakfast, served in a restaurant with a wonderful view of the coast-line.
Review 84:Bit out of the way for us,as we didn't have a car but a beautiful place for a rest.
Review 85:A well maintained complex in the mountains. Spacious rooms nice staff, good breakfast and the most fabulous indoor swimming pool. Pick up and drop offs helpful. Has lift.
Review 86:Pool is cold when it is off-season, really cold.
Review 87:Great location and close to restaurants for dinner. There is one attached to the hotel which makes it convenient but if you want something other than seafood you may have to find another place to eat. Breakfast was included and it was a great way to start the day. The town of Maratea is close by as well as other sites that are quite and beautiful. Would recommend staying here to anyone looking for a spot a little off the beaten path.
Review 88:The beach, while beautiful, was a 15 minute walk from the hotel, and a somewhat-difficult 20 minute walk back uphill on your return. During the season, though, the hotel offers a shuttle service from the hotel to the beach. Did not like the freezing cold swimming pool, but otherwise the place was great. It is an older hotel and definitely for budget travelers, not luxury vacationers. They kept it clean and provided the essentials.
Review 89:Hotel Martino is located on the coast on the outskirts of Maratea, Italy. It is a great little budget hotel with amazing views of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, and they spoke a little English. They had a restaurant "on site" and offered a continental breakfast included with your stay. We would absolutely stay there again! (Just be sure to go during the "summer" season starting on June 1st - more amenities!)
Review 90:The pool and spa were un-avaliable.
Review 91:The view is amazing and the rooms clean and bright. The restaurant was the best food we had on the road traveling.
Review 92:Beach is rather far away from hotel, but beautiful,a la carte dinner rather expensive, but good
Review 93:Staff very friendly, breath taking away view, surrounding is beautiful, breakfast very good,
Review 94:I loved everything about this hotel!
Review 95:Great hotel service and an amazing restaurant onsite that just billed to the room. Great view of the sea and Christo di redentore. Hotel even provided a van with little charge to take you to town.
Review 96:We had a problem, a one-time problem, I assume.....there was a convention staying at the hotel, we were not part of the mass serving, the restaurant was overwhelmed...we waited and hour and a half to get our first course...we let them know... they made good by giving us a bottle of wine...the staff works very hard.
Review 97:It was very quiet. The views were beautiful and the location remote.
Review 98:Our stay was very enjoyable. The rooms were spacious, clean and the view from the balcony was beautiful. It also had an indoor pool The staff were very good and the hotel was reasonably priced for what it offered.
Review 99:Size of room was on the small size together with the bathroom.
Review 100:The view from the balcany was spectacular. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel restaurant was very good together with the view of the ocean.
Review 101:The room smelled unpleasant. I don't know what was in there but itsmelled moldy, definitely not a place to host your guests. The girl atthe reception came down to the room to show it to us and she must havenoticed too. Since she didn't comment on it, neither did we when we werethere but this is a big "no-no"...
Review 102:Hotel Martino has a wonderful location in Maratea. It is easy to find and situated on a main road. We had a lovely corner room with a balcony. The view was extraordinary. We looked out at the countryside, mountains, statue of the Redeemer and the sea. It is a lovely place to stay with an excellent restaurant.
Review 103:Hotel guests have access to a private beach which is wonderful. Thebeach has lounge chairs, umbrellas and an attendant. When we checkedout, our bill contained a charge of 8 Euros per day for use of thelounge chairs and umbrella at the beach. I thought this was a reasonablecharge and did not mind paying it, but I was irritated by the fact thatthere was no notice of this charge anywhere. Not at the desk, in theroom nor at the beach. So be forewarned of this charge.
Review 104:Finding great hotels at reasonable prices is why I use Booking.com,and Hotel Martino was one of those great finds. We can’t wait to goback. It was hot when we were there, so we were especially gratefulfor the air conditioner, which worked very well. The hotel also has avery nice restaurant. We were also very pleased with the breakfastbuffet – huge by Italian standards, more on the order of what we’vefound in German hotels.
Review 105:WiFi only accessible in the lobby area---would be nice to have it in the rooms.
Review 106:Excellent hotel and good value. Must have a car. We paid extra for the room with a sea view, which was well worth it---really lovely! Nice, decently- sized, comfortable, and spotlessly clean room.
Review 107:Astonishing view: from the breakfast room you can eat watching the bay; in a sunny day,it is wonderful!I have a good opinion of the receptionist, Laura, she was very kind.A funny thing:a sweet little dog was always strolling around and she was always looking for brushes! My wife was in panic because she doesn't like dogs!
Review 108:Overall, the hotel, albeit looking a little tired, was very good. Excellent situation with sublime water views. Service by reception staff (one lady all the time) was exceptional. Breakfast was average.
Review 109:Far away from the beach. Sir condition dies not work and the room was semi basement
Review 110:The food was goog
Review 111:The location was superb, quiet and relaxing.
Review 112:Very nice view from the rooms. Very good value.
Review 113:It has absolutely beautiful view. Every staff is wonderful. Sorroundings is calm. I wanted to stay longer even for a month or so.
Review 114:peace and quiet. friendliness and quiet approach of the staff
Review 115:Large room with great views. Breakfast. Extensive facilities and very clean.
Review 116:Rather isolated and difficult to get to the town or to beaches
Review 117:A very comfortable room with magnificent views. Staff very kind and helpful
Review 118:The location was somewhat remote. There are no shops within walking distance.
Review 119:Beautiful countryside and coastline views. Very helpful staff.
Review 120:The Staff where excellent , the hotel was very clean. wish we had stayed more nights
