Reviews for Palazzo Bontadosi Hotel & Spa
Review 1:hotel was clean, friendly, and the junior suite was lovely. What was there not to like? The best restaurant, Locanda di Teatro, was next door. It deserved 2 Michelin stars.
Review 2:That we had to pay a cancellation fee for not going through with the spa service. Also max had a massage, he said it was the worst he has ever had
Review 3:We stayed in the junior suite. It was beautiful
Review 4:Italian beds can be quite hard...
Review 5:The hotel is located in a lovely hill town which has much few tourists than others close by. The food and vineyards make for a great stay. Victoria at the front desks was most accommodating and a pleasure to deal with.
Review 6:I work in the travel business. I have stayed in a lot of hotels around Europe. I am not a snob, but I do have certain basic expectations based on the advertising of a place. We booked ourselves into Bontadosi in order to have a couple of days of R and R in a remote location after a week of running around northern Italy. I booked it because of it being a Mr and Mrs Smith recommended hotel, which normally suggests a high standard and a worthwhile stop. Oh, what an error! We had a great time there, and the village is cute and friendly (though not much to do there). However, if a hotel advertises itself as a spa hotel with treatments ettc., you need to be able to get into the spa! We arrived, and because they have private spa time slots, we only had the option of 8pm for an hour, the next day, or the morning we were leaving. That is just not good enough. We were not warned in advance, and even if we were, if a hotel has around 14 rooms, there are not enough slots in the day for all of the rooms, which means that some of the rooms would have missed out in any case. That is ridiculous. Our expectations of this wonderful spa hotel in the stunning Umbrian hills was ruined. We did not get to the spa, even though we effectively paid for it in our booking (described as included in the package). My wife booked an hour-long massage, but requested that the masseuse stop her treatment after 45 minutes. That's a first, too. I reread the Smith report about the place. Obviously they pulled out the stops for them, but the rest of us. If you are planning on stopping here, I suggest that you book your spa hour in advance, and be warned about the quality of the treatments. Perhaps we had a specifically unfortunate experience and had everything run smoothly, or the hotel not be fully booked, we would have written a glowing report. Perhaps their standards have dropped, but I cannot recommend this place to anyone.
Review 7:The location is good if you want to get off the beaten track, and yet not be to far from civilization. The staff were friendly and helpful, as much as they could be, and Paulo, is a gem! Room was large and airy, and we had the only room with a balcony, which affords a great view across the valley in the morning, and allows you to sit outside with some privacy.
Review 8:Bathrooms are very small bordering on unpractical.
Review 9:Excellent food in the restaurant with great service. A great location to get away from the usual tourist spots.
Review 10:Air conditioning not very effective and in room information is quite sparse, for example the Spa menu is not available in the room. It would also be nice to have in room tea and coffee available, plus complimentary water.
Review 11:Hotel was very non Italian but very well appointed and fashionable. Restaurant very nice too, food very good, but is trying to gain new clientele versus the more established one's across the square.
Review 12:The room was slightly on the small side and the lighting was pretty poor (although this is quite signature of Mr & Mrs Smith hotels- i think it's supposed to be trendy!) The air con was pretty loud & went on intermittently- would've preferred it to stay on at a low setting rather than blasting on & off all the time. We had no full size towels!
Review 13:The hotel Is part of the Mr & Mrs Smith collection so we had high hopes.. We weren't disappointed. There's parking available on site (if you've stayed in the small walled towns in Italy you'll know how difficult this can be!) the check in was smooth and the room was nice- the views from our room were amazing (rm 15). The hotel is on the square and right next door we ate lunch in a small restaurant which was our best meal of the week on our holiday.. That evening we ate in the hotel & the food was also lovely, with great efficient service and was only 80euros which consisted of 1 3 course, 1 x 2 course meal and 2 bottles of wine. Montefalco itself is beautiful and well worth visiting.. if you can do this & Montepulciano you've seen the best of the best! Loved the quirky art hanging downstairs!
Review 14:Fabulous room and a great view. Friendly staff. Excellent shower.
Review 15:Beautiful Hotel, in the main square, Of a lovely small hilltop town.
Review 16:Great location on the square, beautiful rooms in a lovely old building.
Review 17:We thought that the particularly expensive price for the room was due to the fact that guests had the opportunity of using the Spa facilities. This would indeed be just normal in any Spa Hotel. However, we were told that only one session was included and we needed to pay an extra 80Euros for the two of us in order to use the spa after the first time. This is frankly unacceptable and quite shoddy.
Review 18:Beautiful historical building in a great location, right in the midst of Montefalco, which is itself a little gem surrounded by other interesting towns. The room was not particularly spacious, but the view over Umbria's countryside was spectacular. Breakfast was good, although quite ordinary.
Review 19:The person at the front desk was extremely helpful and really went out of her way for us. We were very impressed with her. We didn't see much of the hotel because we came late and left early, but the room was nice enough.
Review 20:Nothing. Absolutely loved this hotel.
Review 21:Loved the decor - luxurious and chic. The rain shower in the bathroomwas amazing. The views from the bedrooms were fabulous - we had windowson two sides, showing a couple nearby hill towns including Bevagna, thevineyards in the valley below, and just the most beautiful panorama. Thebreakfast was to die for - best croissants I've ever had, accompanied bypeach & cherry jams made by the hotel's chef, and an assortment of curedmeats - prosciutto, salame, etc, fresh fruit, and coffees.Overally, loved this hotel, felt very pampered, and really wished we didn't have to leave. Worth every penny we payed for it, especially considering that we payed similar rates in the big cities (rome, florence, venice), for hotels that didn't even come close to Palazzo Bontadosi.
Review 22:Room 1 is amazing - covered in frescoes. A really lovely, different hotel.
Review 23:The location and ambience were superb. The staff were friendly and very efficient.
Review 24:everything was just perfect!
