Reviews for Churchtown House

Review 1:We had not appreciated beforehand that this lovely place doesn't offer a restaurant - although there are good pubs a short distance away.

Review 2:The owners' welcome was excellent and, as my partner was unwell, they did everything possible to help make our short stay a memorable one. The room was warm and very comfortable and we highly recommend it to other travellers.

Review 3:nothing

Review 4:This is a perfect location, in an astonishing park and perfect for a couple of days to stay out of all hectic and be close to the beach side ion Rosslare or nearby. The owners are just awesome friendly and you feel welcome just as you enter.

Review 5:Spacious, comfortable rooms, very good value - I was sorry we were not able to stay longer. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful, grounds were beautiful, and very quiet. Lovely old building.

Review 6:Breakfasts are cooked well, but what is on offer is "standard B&B" - that is, without much choice and not top quality ingredients. This was fine for us (no complaints) but if the owners want to position this as a boutique hotel they would have to invest more in the food. Before they take us up on that suggestion, we recommend that you rush to book this lovely place and enjoy the B&B prices!

Review 7:This is a lovely old house in a very large garden perfectly situated between the ferryport and Rosslare Strand (foodies - try Tides gastropub or Kelly's bistro). 'Standard' bedrooms are huge (one has a bathtub) and 'superior' ones are giant suites! Very comfortable - a different level from most other B&Bs in the area. Very nice and helpful people. You could really enjoy staying here for a holiday, not just for the ferry.

Review 8:Breakfast good, service rather disappointing, little touches missing. Sadly the new owner has introduced modern furniture into a beautiful period property. New owner tended to ask a lot of questions which was annoying.

Review 9:Peaceful, quiet, rural location yet near the sea, beautiful old period property. A serene retreat.

Review 10:Location, staff, room , whatnot Everything simply superb. Enjoyed every moment :) friendly hosts :) only thing is they have to improve WiFi signals in corner room (like room 14) :P :)

Review 11:I was rather disappointed by this place. (1) When we arrived, we were ignored for some considerable time after a tiring journey from Cork, but despite hearing the bell ring more than once the host continued talking to other guests upstairs for more than ten minutes. (2) WORSE, we had booked two double rooms for our party of three, one of which was supposed to be a superior room for which we paid more. However it was inconveniently arranged, had a vastly inferior aspect to the other room which had nicer furniture, better views, a double aspect and a free standing shower rather than one in the bath; and cost less! The furniture was heavy and cumbersome and trying to move it for convenient and comfortable access to sockets for Smartphones etc was difficult because everything was inconveniently placed. Sockets on one side of the bed were impossible to access because there was a very heavy wardrobe placed in front of them, hence one of us couldn't view IT stuff from the bed. Whilst the surface appearance was good, no thought had been given to the functionality of the room for the modern traveller. (3) Finally, although an early cooked breakfast had been ordered the night before for the ferry, it wasn't ready and hadn't been started. What could have been an amazing experience, was instead rather mediocre.

Review 12:Very convenient for the ferry.

Review 13:We received an extremely friendly welcome. Our room has a very large comfortable double bed. the room was beautiful and nice spacious bathroom. tasty cooked to order breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble even helping us to jump start our car the following morning. Would highly recommend.

Review 14:Nothing bad to report

Review 15:Chris ( owner) listened to our needs( grandparents with 7,5,3 year old boys and configured rooms to make it work at short notice. The large gardens were magnificent and previded 2 hours of running around to expend energy which was a big bonus!

Review 16:Very smart and comfortable hotel in a beautiful garden setting. A quiet country location, yet within easy distance of the ferry terminal. Definitely a high quality B&B hotel with friendly and helpful owners and staff.

Review 17:Nothing.

Review 18:Lovely property with very good facilities. Very welcoming hosts who made good suggestions regarding local eateries and places to go, which made for a very pleasant experience.

Review 19:Beautiful house with splendid rooms and a lovely breakfast room and large lounges set in lovely gardens. Very convenient near the port. The owners and staff were very welcoming and helpful.

Review 20:Some confusion over whether breakfast was included in the price and we were told that others who were coming over on the night ferry couldn't join us for breakfast. However on the table menu it clearly said that breakfast was available to non-residents. Could be more homely..

Review 21:The setting of the property is beautiful with a huge garden for pets. Well placed for both the ferry and the lovely beach at Rosslare.

Review 22:The bedroom, in an imposing house was spacious, clean and beautifully decorated. The well kept grounds allowed us to take a pleasant evening stroll and our hosts were friendly and accommodating. We have already recommended this guest house to friends and family.

Review 23:A fantastic place to stay, the staff go out of their way to help, the house and gardens are beautiful, and the breakfast was excellent. We will definitely stay again!

Review 24:The position, views from all the windows, the peace and quiet, the comfortable and clean and beautifully furnished and equipped rooms and the friendly helpful staff.

Review 25:There was nothing to not like.

Review 26:As we drove through the gate and up the drive through the manicured lawns and immaculate gardens everything just felt right. When we were greeted by name in the parking area by name and by the owner you knew this was going to be OK. Everything from then on was perfect.

Review 27:Everything was perfect! Friendly, beautiful house and luxurious rooms, and delicious breakfast. We have altered our itinary to spend another night there on the way home.

Review 28:Wi-fi wasn't very good in our room but it wasn't an important part of our stay so it didn't bother us too much (may be an issue if someone has to work).

Review 29:Very clean. Staff were very welcoming and let us use the kitchen to wash our daughters bottles. The cot they provided was lovely and clean, and the room was huge with a shower/bath with bath mat - very important when bathing a little one (unlike other places that only had a shower). The grounds are lovely and we could spend time outdoors, even admiring the goat!

Review 30:Would have loved to be able to eat at the accommodation and it was so lovely and welcoming.

Review 31:Friendliness of staff, quality of accommodation and helpful attitude toward the dog. The dog was not excluded as long as it was well behaved.

Review 32:Wi Fi didnt work very well but I think that is an overall problem in Rosslare. so I couldnt say that there was anything we didnt like

Review 33:We have stayed here before. We love the house the rooms are very spacious. The new owners have updatd the showers and they are excellent

Review 34:There is nothing to dislike.

Review 35:The quality of accomodation is unrivalled for the price. Peace and quiet. Comfortable and in very pleasant surroundings. Excellent helpful hosts.

Review 36:Just 2 small points the wifi was weak away from the centre of the house. House could be better sign posted. Wasn't a problem for us as we knew the are well but first time visitors might struggle to find it.

Review 37:Great welcome. Chris and staff are all excellent very friendly. Spacious and very comfortable room (no.14). Beautiful house and gardens. Freshly cooked breakfast. Will definitely be back.

Review 38:The grounds and house are beautiful ,the room was first class ,the bathroom was immaculate ,we were met from our car with an umbrella as it was raining.

Review 39:Nothing to dislike

Review 40:Peace and quiet, beautiful grounds and comfort. Good host and great breakfast. Good location for early morning ferry. Ticked all the boxes.

Review 41:breakfast very disapointed rashers very salty food cold no fruit available only small packets cereal no brown bread available,in general breakfast poor wont be going back, they need to improve on those things, then it would be attractive

Review 42:premises lovely very clean staff friendly bed room very nice lovely grounds

Review 43:Our hosts were perfect from securing our racing bikes in their outbuildings to warming milk for my granddaughter and showing her the tortoises. Breakfast fulfilling after a great nights sleep. Couldn't be better

Review 44:There is nothing about a visit to this property to dislike.

Review 45:We had only just pulled up in front of this magnificent country house when we were greeted by our host Chris with a huge welcome. We were taken straight to our room which could only be described as magnificent and given full details of what we could expect during our stay. The room overlooked the garden on one side with a small conservative style seating area on the adjacent side overlooking the gardens on that side of the property. The bathroom too was outstanding with all fixtures and fittings to die for.

Review 46:Not a "didn't like" more a recommendation...We had room 1 and it was a little chilly as the evening got later. Radiators seem too small for this very large and otherwise superb room.

Review 47:Everything. Great welcome. Superb room. Delightful hosts.

Review 48:This was the largest room and the most comfortable bed. Chris, the host was great. He was very helpful and we found the Stena Line easily for our ferry ride. We would stay here again if given the opportunity.

Review 49:When driving out of the main entrance gate it's very difficult to see traffic approaching from the right, It might be useful to mount a mirror on the opposite side of the road.

Review 50:Beautiful country house in delightful, extensive grounds. There are large well furnished and comfortable sitting rooms for residents to relax in, the owners and staff are friendly, informative and helpful. Lovely large comfortable bedroom and excellent breakfast. We couldn't fault any aspect of our stay and will certainly return as soon as we can.

Review 51:Nothing at all as there was nothing to improve on.

Review 52:Everything. Friendly welcome from the owner. Gorgeous room with views overlooking the extensive lawns with a huge cedar tree. Beautiful sheets and linen.

Review 53:The house is beautiful, set in wonderful gardens. Chris was on hand to welcome us on our arrival and recommended some places to eat. The room was stunning with a sepearte tv/lounge area.

Review 54:Breakfast rather ordinary: standard small packs of cereal, ordinary sliced bread: muesli? grapefruit / orange segments? not hard to bake your own bread if you have a breadmaker - those things would make all the difference. I forgot my hot water bottle but have heard no mention of it - should I hope to have it returned by post?

Review 55:Quiet, wonderful old building, lovely colours (Farrow and Ball), spacious. I had booked a single room but was given a double that was available, at no extra charge. Very clean, comfortable, attentive staff.

Review 56:Lovely place, pleasant people, quiet, very convenient for Rosslare ferry. We used it as a place to stay the night before embarking early in the morning. So we didn't see much of the surrounding countryside. But it would be a great B&B for exploring the area. We had a big room at a very reasonable price.

Review 57:What a fantastic find. I booked Churchtown House for a nights stay as I was passing through Rosslare on my way back to England on the 9:00am Ferry. It looks very nice on the website but that doesn't quite prepare you for the fantastic view as you turn into the driveway. Churchtown house is a beautiful old Georgian (I think) house set in massive gardens, and when I drove in my first thought was that perhaps I’d come to the wrong place. That was soon dispelled when the proprietor greeted me by name at the front door and carried my bags up to my room for me. I had booked a standard double room with en suite shower, which was a very decent size and very nicely decorated..... Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. I had a great nights sleep as it is so, so quiet there. I asked for an early breakfast because of the ferry departure, and was expecting cereal and toast but they offered me the full Irish breakfast menu after which I didn't need to eat again until I got home that evening. I am actually writing this review reluctantly, as I come to Ireland a lot and will always book Churchtown house in the future but it is so good that I fear that with the new owners it might become too popular and I wont be able to get in 9.6 out of 10

Review 58:the Eggs....

Review 59:We were travelling to Ireland by Ferry and decided at the last minute to book accommodation in Rosslare. We Chose Churchtown house because it was really convenient for Rosslare Europort and frankly the price was surprisingly low. We really didn’t have any expectations so when we arrived at this fantastic country house we were delighted. We were welcomed at the door by the owners, Chris and Aisling and shown to what we can only describe as a beautiful room. It was newly decorated and was a cross between what you would expect in a boutique hotel and a traditional country house. Really full of character. The super king size bed was very comfortable and warm, and surprisingly for Ireland the Shower was powerful and piping hot. Again surprisingly for Ireland there was plenty of tea and coffee in the room and additionally we were invited for tea and cakes in a huge room overlooking a Croquet lawn. They are not currently serving evening meals, so Chris booked us a table at a local restaurant which was, once again excellent. In the morning we wanted to set off early, and asked for 7:00am breakfast which duly turned up. I had a huge full Irish breakfast and my wife had Scrambled eggs on toast. There you go they finally got something wrong, the scrambled eggs were too dry so we had to ask them to do them again. No problem fresh eggs were whistled up in a few minutes. They even waved us goodbye as we drove off up the drive. We didn’t have time on this trip but next time we come to Ireland we will definitely stay here for a few days. Churchtown house is truly fantastic. Because of the eggs I will only give 9.8 out of 10

Review 60:I only stayed one night here but I wish I had stayed more. Churchtown house provides hotel style comfort at B&B prices. The room was great... very clean, fantastic shower, great view of the amazing garden and a really lovely bed. Breakfast was just huge.... I nearly couldn’t eat it all Owners and staff were just so friendly, helpful and welcoming, I really didn’t want to leave. The only small thing is that because it is early in the season they don’t offer any evening meals, they did however recommend a great pub just down the road and that was fine All in all a great place to stay 9.5 out of 10
