Reviews for Sotto Il Vulcano
Review 1:Antonella and Salvo where amazing they went out of their way to make sure we had the best holiday ever. They even helped us plan the holiday and directed us to ideal places for us to visit.
Review 2:Antonella and Salvi are just fantastic hosts. The place is perfectly clean and breakfast is very good. They really think about every little detail. Highly recommended! We'll be back:)
Review 3:The hosts,Antonella and Salvo, were so welcoming and a wealth of information about the area and things to do. The breakfast was great and the open kitchen for snacks and drinks after a day of sightseeing was so nice. Good location short walk to town.
Review 4:Warm welcome by the owners Antonella & Salvo (both speak good English), great hospitality, amazing breakfast with plenty of choice (like cheese, ham, eggs, fresh fruits, warm & cold drinks, home-made sweets), rooms well equipped and very clean, B&B on walking distance to supermarket and restaurants, perfect location for excursion to Etna
Review 5:Breakfast was one of the best we've ever had! Antonella makes a cake everyday and her croissants filled with pistache cream (homemade) are delicious! There are fresh fruits, yoghurt, cheese, salami, ham etc every day. Best place for visiting the Etna, you'll get a discount from Antonella and her husband. Rooms are perfectly clean. You can have juices, coffee and tea all day long in the breakfast room. We defenitely stay here again when we'll visit Sicily!!
Review 6:The traffic on the street towards Nicolosi is always busy but there's not much you can do about that.
Review 7:Antonella and her husband are the greatest hosts, warm, friendly, so helpful! It's hard to imagine better hosts! Antonella makes fresh cake for breakfast every day and they really make you feel at home! I hope we go back soon!
Review 8:Our hosts - the lovely Antonella ably assisted by her husband, Salvo - were simply FANTASTICO!! Helpful, friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The breakfasts were wonderful with so much choice. We lacked for nothing!
Review 9:Excellent situation for excursions to the Etna with great suggestions from the owners. The breakfast was gorgeous with plenty of choice! Also well situated to visit Taormina, Syracusa etc. Don't hesitate. We had à wonderful stay. Thanks again!
Review 10:Lovely room, good location, great choice of breakfast. Our hosts Antonella and Salvo were so helpful and knowledgeable about the area, places to visit and restaurants. If I was going back to the same area I would definitely stay there again.
Review 11:We stayed in an block of single storey apartments in the garden and the room was ok but the floor was damp to walk on possibly due to humidity and towels didn't dry either.
Review 12:The location was good but we struggled to find the property with our satnav. We were made welcome and owners offered advice on route round Etna as well as discount on trip but we didn't bother as it quite expensive. We had a lovely breakfast in the morning too where we sat with others a bench table which made it interesting to meet other travellers of all nationalities
Review 13:Antonella and Salvo are perfect hosts. I have never experienced a b&b that was so warm, friendly, well-kept and offering such a good breakfast. I will certainly return
Review 14:Nothing, every think is PERFECT.
Review 15:Super B&B, and the way to found is very easy. That is a special room, where you can cooking / drinking / eating / watching TV. Wifi work perfect. Very good rooms, absolutely SUPER B&B.
Review 16:sadly we had to leave and could not stay longer!
Review 17:Antonella and Salvo are running the most friendly B&B you can imagine. Nice, clean room and a central shed for breakfast and coffee to meet the other guests.
Review 18:Nothing
Review 19:Antonella was so welcoming, allowing us to drop off our bags early so we didn't have to take them up the volcano, and giving us a voucher for 20% off the cable car price. The rooms were comfortable and spotless and there was a communal area where we could make coffee and meet other residents. Mount Etna is easy to reach from here and the best experience even in November
Review 20:This was literally the best place I have ever stayed. On our arrival we were welcomed with a cup of amazing cappuccino by a very welcoming Antonella. The room was excellent, the bathroom had everything we might need and the inside garden was simply adorable. It's also very near (15mins by foot) the lovely town of Nicolosi. Oh and the breakfast was AMAZING! I highly recomend this place. My boyfriend said we will definetly come back there one day! Thank you so much for everything!
Review 21:One very small thing - there were very few available electrical outlets for charging phones, batteries etc. These days this is important. But we made do.
Review 22:Stayed three nights, and loved everything - but above all the genuinely warm and affectionate hospitality of our lovely and generous hosts. Amazing and delicious breakfast. Sotto Il Vulcano is a perfect example of why we stay at B & B and not hotels. The dining/common room is warm and inviting, and guests are welcome to use it at any time, including coffee, refrigerator, etc., which is a huge bonus for us. The hosts are very helpful and knowledgeable about Mt. Etna excursions, which is the main reason we stayed in Nicolosi. Excellent free WIFI. Extremely reasonable price. We loved it!
Review 23:Very, very nice and clean room. The couple that owns the B&B are extremely kind and helpful, they give you good recommendations on restaurants and other things you can do in the area. They also provide you with a 10€ discount voucher to visit the Etna mount (cable car, minibus and guided visit). Free parking and free high speed Wifi. There is a common area open 24h where you can drink tea/coffee and have a snack. Excellent!
Review 24:enthousiastic owners giving good info great breakfast mountainbiking support
Review 25:A really friendly B&B
Review 26:The breakfast table arrangement with the excellent breakfast give you the possibility to have a conversation with the other guests.

Review 38:Nothing.
Review 39:Perfect location, excellent organisation, scrumptious breakfast. The owners: Salvo & Antonella. We had an early flight and they woke up and served the breakfast at 6:30.
Review 40:Everything about this place is great... garden, breakfast, cleanliness, room equipment and especially the owners Antonella and Salvo. Owners A&S are very helpfull with other information too.
Review 41:Lack of soundproofing between rooms. But would have been ok if guests would only learn to use "indoor voices."
Review 42:Friendly welcome, helpful advice, very comfortable room, quiet location on the edge of Nicolosi. Also the spacious commmon room and patio where guests can make themselves at home and browse books and maps of Etna.
Review 43:Nothing! Recommended!
Review 44:Nice B&B in a perfect location for exploring Etna and Sicilys East Coast by rental car. Nice, simple and very clean rooms with own bathroom, terrace, parking and community room with kitchen (free coffee/tea and juice, open 24h). Owners take very personal care of their guests, excellent help with organising tours etc. Good choice of restaurants and bars with live-music in downtown Nicolisi (1km easy walk). Good wireless connection.
Review 45:Water in the shower, a bit dodgy. Hot/cold change temperature all the time.
Review 46:Warm friendly welcome with cookies and tea/coffee. Lovely hosts really make you feel like at home. Free and secure car park. Very clean room. Refrigerator in room. Fantastic sweet and salty breakfast with homemade cake. Beautiful fireplace in cozy common area/breakfast room was the best of all our stay in Sicily.
Review 47:Everything was perfect! Antonella and Salvatore were very kind and helpful. Breakfast was amazing and it was nice and quiet. Close to everything, especially the Etna and really close to the town center where you can enjoy huge perfect pizzas and nice aperitivo. We will definitely be back
Review 48:It was a bit tricky to find the place, as TomTom didn't find the exact street address, had to rely on street signs and they really helped.
Review 49:Antonella and her husband met us as old friends and treated us like kings. With so friendly owners, rich breakfast and modern equiped room this was by far the best B&B of 6 we tried in Sicily. The best place to stay for Etna sightseeing.
Review 50:The owners Antonella and Salvo are one of the friendliest and nicest people we've ever had the privilege to meet, they really make you feel like at home. The hotel is very nice and very conveniently located for exploring Etna and surrounding area. Breakfast was delicious and the room was comfortable and clean. One of the best places we've ever stayed at!
Review 51:What a nice and helpful hostess! Great location for climbing Etna andalso seeing Taormina and Siracusa. Great breakfast! There was also afree parking on site and a nice dining area. Exceeded my expectations!
Review 52:The bedroom was dark, only one small window.
Review 53:You couldn't wish to meet a more friendly or helpful owner than Antonella. The breakfast was excellent.
Review 54:That we had too many good things for breakfast including the amazing hand made croissants filled with pistachios and had to walk up the Etna to level them out!
Review 55:Everything! We were warmly received , given a choice of which view we preferred, the room has a small fridge which is always welcome , all amenities to make our stay comfortable and the breakfast in the cosy dining area was the very best of all our stay in Sicily, would love to return to this B&B
Review 56:The mosquitoes! But that isn't the fault of the hosts!!!
Review 57:Our hosts were so kind and helpful. We needed warmer coats to take the mini-tour up Mt. Etna and they loaned us some. We arrived after 10 pm, and one of them was waiting for us. The breakfast was wonderful. I have rarely experienced such wonderful hospitality when staying with strangers.
Review 58:Although walkable to town (for restaurants) - it was a bit further than we had thought - probably about 700m and slightly uphill, but don't let this put you off - still a great location
Review 59:Lovely b&b in nice small town with good restaurants and very convenient to 'climb' Mt Etna - & to visit local towns - such as Taormina. Hosts were very charming and helpful with advice, etc - & had discounts available for Etna visit (cable car, etc.). Breakfast was very nice with fresh bakery food, etc. Hotel grounds nice for an urban location.
Review 60:Run by a friendly family; included a great breakfast and the common area is " like your house" so you can help yourself to excellent coffee at any time of the day. Great value for money.
Review 61:Antonella and Salvo are the best ! They are so helpfull and friendly ! Breakfast was great and the rooms are clean. Antonella and Salvo speak good English and it was a pleasure to meet them.
Review 62:the owners were very friendly and helpful the breakfast was excellent and varied the location was perfect for Etna and also within easy access of the beach and nearby places to visit like Catania Syracuse and Taormina
Review 63:Very friendly owners which know everything about Etna and the surroundings. The best breakfast we had in Siciliy, great place to stay, highly recommended!
Review 64:Too bad that Antonella does not cook anymore for her guests in the evenings; I guess this would have been a feast... But everyone needs in the end a bit of leisure time, especially if hosts like these care so much about their guests during daytime...
Review 65:We stayed three nights at the Sotto Il Vulcano. Antonella and Salvo are wonderful, caring, supportive hosts, speaking also English. The house is located in a quite area south the center of Nicolosi, i.e. no traffic noise, but a 10 Min walk to get to restaurants etc. Absolutely outstanding and delicious was the breakfast every morning, with anything one could wish (home-made cakes, variety of good jams, fresh fruits, joghurt, eggs, cheese, prosciutto, diverse sorts of croissants, bread rolls, fresh orange juice...). Salvo helps with walking/hiking tour planning; there is discount for Etna tours/funicular. If good wheather conditions, an absolute must is the Etna Summit Tour. If we were to come back into this region, we would stay at Sotto Il Vulcano.
Review 66:Nothing!
Review 67:Everything :) It was simply amazing and felt very welcome! Would recommend it to anyone! Came back knowing we have friends back in Sicily as the hosts make you feel like family! Moreover, rooms are modern and very comfortable! Breakfast is also delicious we loved the torta al pistacchio e la torte alle mele home made by our lovely host!

Review 78:The best thing about this b&b is hosts. Rarely you can find such welcomeand care for guests. Talking to them was both useful as they gavevaluable advices on sightseeing and fun. Great atmosphere, good locationand pleasant company makes this place fine for everyone. You feelyourself like at home. Would recommend it for anyone going to Mt Etnaand surroundings.
Review 79:Great location for Etna but also for Taormina, Catania and Siracuse. Nicolosi is a pleasant town. Sotto is just marvellous. The couple running it just can't do enough for guests. The breakfast will keep you going all day!
Review 80:Some loose screws in room and bathroom. Showercabin is very small. Too few electric points Iron frontdoor was heated up by the morning sun, heated up the room and became even too hot to touch.
Review 81:Enthousiasm and hospitality of the very friendly owners. Good information about excursions to mount Etna, we made an impressive tour. Lovely breakfast with good bread, cheese, marmelade, fresh orange juice, a lot of fresh fruit, as much cappucinos as you like. We had two lovely days, we really felt like at home :-) Location near the village, 10 minutes walk to several good restaurants.
Review 82:Antonella and Salvatore are very very nice and helpfull and can give you good advice about climbing Mount Etna. The breakfast is very good, with fresh orange juice, fresh fruit, meat, cheese, jam, etc. There is a nice garden where you can read a book or just relax and they have a little house (like a small livingroom) where you can relax (in case the wheater isn't good). The B&B is a 5 minute walk from the small town Nicolosi.
Review 83:Location is good towards the edge of Nicolosi which means a half milewalk in to town and easy to get to the southern slopes of Etna. Our roomwas not large but adequate and comfortable but the (communal) breakfastroom cum kitchen which you're given the run of was great. Never lockedand with an endless supply of espresso/cappuchino available and also atasty breakfast supplied every morning. What really makes this placestand out are the owners (who live next door) Antonella and Solvo. Theyare lovely people who will go out of their way to make sure you arehappy. Treat it like home they said - and meant it. Highly reccommended
Review 84:Very friendly atmosphere, great help on accomodating on the first day.Discounts for local attractions (Etna trip, etc.). Pistachio croissants!:) Located in quiet area.
Review 85:The owners makes you feel comfortable and at home. Excellent breakfast, especially my favorite pistachio crossants :) Good location especiallyif you are visiting Etna.
Review 86:If you are going to see Mt. Etna you have to stay in Nicolosi. And ifyou're looking for a b&b in Nicolosi you must stay at Sotto ll Vulcano. The owners, Antonella and Salve, treat you as family. The first thingthey tell you once you have seen the facility is that you should thinkof it as "your home". We arrived a bit earlier than expected and whilewe waited a few minutes for our rooms to be prepared we were servedfresh squeezed juice, coffee and chocolates. The breakfast they serve isincredible and not to be missed. The weather was cold and rainy when wereturned from Etna and when we mentioned that it was a bit chilly in thecommon room Salve immediately built a fire for us. As if that were notenough they outdid themselves when they found out we had to leave at5:15 the next morning for our return flight. At 5 am Salve had alreadyprepared a full breakfast for us. What wonderful people and what a greatplace to stay. Highly recommended.
