Reviews for Hotel Poseidonia Mare

Review 1:Nothing really.

Review 2:Family DeSanti (owners and operators) go overboard to make your stay comfortable and pleasurable. Special thanks to Sophia (creator of extraordinary dishes served every night) and Kasia (Polish waitress full of humor and always happy to help). Hotel highly recommended.

Review 3:This family owned hotel was just perfect for us. Very accommodating, fabulous food prepared by chef Sofia, close to beaches. Just an excellent and enjoyable experience. We look forward to returning maybe next year.

Review 4:The staff were very helpful, from arrival at the small train station with no public transportation available, the hotel transported us free of charge round trip. They also took us to the Paestum historic ruins, kept our baggage for the day, & delivered it to us at the train station within walking distance of the ruins, for us to catch our train out. The food at their restaurant & service was excellent.

Review 5:the decoration of the room ,the shower stall need to be fixed, it was nice to have a coffee making kit in the room

Review 6:nice ,quite, familiar hotel with great breakfast, good restaurant!!! and the staff was extremely nice.

Review 7:Town very quiet in October.

Review 8:Hotel near the ocean, walking distance, has Wi-Fi and on site parking. Near Roman archaeological site - large park within walking distance, less then 3-5 minutes by car, Good in house restaurant. Staff very friendly, helpful.

Review 9:there wasn´t shower box,but curtain and after shower was wet floor

Review 10:very kind staff,breakfast,near by the sea,air condition,clean hotel,bicycle free of charge,quiet place,everything fantastic :)

Review 11:This place is a real gem. I have been traveling in Italy for years and I must say that staying at this hotel was an amazing experience. The breakfasts are out of this world prepared with fresh local ingredients. The staff is extremely friendly and the rooms are very clean. It's a very short walk to the beach and overall a great place to have an extended stay.

Review 12:Alessandro, Nino, Kasha, and all of the staff were wonderful-this is the way you imagine Italian hospitality will be when traveling to Italy. And the food was absolutely incredible!!! It is an easy walk to the archeological site, and they arranged for me to access the beach, where I was able to rent a space with an umbrella and sun bed for a reasonable price. I look forward to coming here again!

Review 13:No difficulties experienced.

Review 14:This hotel is from a traditional era. It excels because of its very friendly, helpful and professional staff. We received excellent service. We appreciated their delightful evening meals, the availability of a lift and onsite parking. It is located close to the Roman ruins, shops and the beach.

Review 15:We loved the use of the bicycles, and the excellent breakfast, which was prepared just for us. Terrific service and very friendly and accommodating staff and owner.

Review 16:We highly recommend this hotel for vacation. Very clean and comfortable rooms. Extremely hospitable staff. Excellent cuisine and service in the restaurant.

Review 17:The only very small problem was that some of the staff have limited English....but that's not a huge issue and we go by just fine with the staff that did speak English. Really, not much negative to say. A lot of pink....that's it.

Review 18:The location was perfect, with safe parking for our car. The food was very good, and easy. They were accommodating of our special diet needs (no salt for my husband). You can walk to a small commercial street. The room was simple but perfectingly adequate and quite roomy. Comfortable all around. Not fancy but just fine. Paestum is a life highlight!

Review 19:That I had to leave!

Review 20:Within a kilometer of the ruins. Very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms and beds were comfortable and clean with a refrigerator in the room. We had a charming balcony with a view of the ocean. We had a wonderful dinner in the hotel restaurant and our waitress, Catarina, was extremely sweet and kind. She made our dining experience a memorable one!

Review 21:Nothing.

Review 22:The staff was incredibly friendly and hospitable. They kept the restaurant open late for us and they gave our 9 year old daughter a special Easter gift since we stayed during the beginning of Easter week.

Review 23:Set dinner for half board was basic. Probably better to go for a la carte.

Review 24:Exceptional welcome, very helpful management, warm and comfortable room, excellent breakfast. Good value.

Review 25:Nothing!

Review 26:Great staff; wonderful breakfast, bacon and eggs plus everything else; delicious dinners; free loaned bicycles; close to Paestum ruins and to beach; quiet for sleeping; would definitely stay here again!

Review 27:Pillows were really hard. Shower stall was very small.

Review 28:The service is excellent, one or both owners always in attendance. Breakfast was cooked to order. The restaurant for dinner had an excellent menu and the food was delicious. Internet was reliable and fast. A short walk to the beach, slightly longer to the Ruins.

Review 29:Decor was very1980's - trying to emulate the roman colours but not really working!

Review 30:This was a fabulous location which combined a golden beach with access to three heart moving Greek temples ! Something for everyone ! Totally unspoilt and captivating !

Review 31:Posoidonia Mare is a charming hotel located Torre di Paestum, very near the lovely beach and one kilometer from the Greek ruins.the staff could not have been more helpful and friendly, and the food at the restaurant was marvelous. breakfast was a special treat with a lovely variety of items. We would certainly return to this establishment if we were in the area. Nino even took us to the train station and they have bikes to lend for free.

Review 32:There was nothing to dislike.

Review 33:We were able to combine a beachside break with exploration of the ruins. There were hotels closer to the ruins but then we would have missed the proximity of the beach. Everybody in the hotel was very kind and helpful.

Review 34:This is a great place to stay in Paestum. Fabio and Alessandro are very professional and helpful (Fabio prepared a walking itinerary for our next stop in Rome). Rooms were clean and spacious and breakfasts plentiful. We ate in the restaurant both nights with excellent service from Kazia.

Review 35:A few mosquitoes got in our room but one could easily close the balcony door and use AC instead.

Review 36:We appreciated greatly the genuine warmth of the staff and the hotel's proximity both to the seaside and the marvellous Paestum ruins. Rooms were freshly decorated, clean and comfortable. We had delicious homemade pasta and fresh seafood in the dining room. Breakfast selections were plentiful and various, including yummy Italian style bacon and eggs!

Review 37:Some small things - no mosquito screens on the windows; the flatness of the pillows (personal taste); leaking shower stall

Review 38:Friendliness of the owners and staff - very warm and sincere welcome; location within walking distance to the sea and ruins (if you are reasonably fit); the varied and generous breakfast buffet supplemented with delicious bacon and eggs cooked to order Italian style; the reasonable prices and quality of the meals in the restaurant served by an attentive and most pleasant waitress; the outdoor balcony; the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms at a reasonable price; strong wifi; the kind offer of the owner to drive us to the train station.

Review 39:Breakfasts a bit indifferent - rather unusual to have egg, bacon and salad.

Review 40:Location excellent, by a very good beach; very quiet; friendly staff. We were out of season (beginning of October), so it is probably a lot busier in the summer. Very well placed for a visit to Paestum

Review 41:Nothing

Review 42:You sometimes wonder if a second visit can be as good as our first - last year. We were not to be disappointed with our 4 day visit. The location is superb, the breakfasts and dinners excellent and the staff could not be more friendly and helpful. The temples at Paestum are inspiring - add to that easy access by train to Naples, Herculaneum and Pompeii plus the superb beach at Paestum itself and you have an almost perfect combination. To the south, Agropoli and the Cilento National Park are well worth visiting.

Review 43:Lovely hotel and amazing food , better than some of the really expensive restaurants on the Amalfi coast. When we asked for a taxi they took us themselves free of charge ... Amazing service!!!

Review 44:Noun.

Review 45:Location is wonderful, you can reach a free sandy beach in just 2 min walk; or, the paestum temples in 15 min by bike which you can borrow directly from the hotel. Room was clean and comfortable. WIFI was working everywhere in the hotel. Staffs were super friendly and warm. The food from hotel restaurant was amazing!! I had the best seafood pasta ever in my life! (PS: I lived in Italy for 2 years, and traveled around frequently. Trust me, I have been to most major cities and towns in Italy, and tasted many many traditional Italian pasta) Highly recommend!!!

Review 46:Like my pillows firm, but this was a bit too much. Still, I slept very well!

Review 47:Spectacularly warm and helpful service. Treated like old friend from the moment we arrived until we left. never ate the same dinner entree twice. The Greek city of Pestum is a most interesting place to visit, the beaches are beautiful, wide, and clean, and the location is a great springboard for roaming the Amalfi Coast or traveling south to explore the Grottoes at Palinuro. We did it all, with lots of help from Alesandro, Lino, Fabio, Chef Sofia, Kasia and Vito. The value is unbeatable.

Review 48:I hope some other parts of the neighbourhood will become less poor / at an higher level.

Review 49:Kind & helpfull staff. Even solving not-daily problems (repairing carradio) was an honnour for the gentlemen.

Review 50:The immediate surroundings do not have great food options. To get better food you need to hit one of the restaurants next to the Paestum ruins. The room decor is a bit dark - but it's all in the mode of ancient Greek drawings so it's fun as well.

Review 51:The staff were warm and welcoming. The location in relation to Paestum cannot be surpassed. I really give this establishment A for effort and caring. It's genuine - which shows.

Review 52:Very clean & comfortable! Great breakfast! Staff was wonderful......

Review 53:The friendliness of the owner and his staff made us feel truly welcome.

Review 54:tried to help with an unrelated problem, very friendly, great ristorante, very nice staff.

Review 55:nice and helpful staff

Review 56:Spacious room with conveniences. Excellent breakfast. One block from a nice swimming beach, and a short drivevto Paestum.

Review 57:Staff that goes the extra mile to make your stay enjoyable. Le personnel fait les efforts pour rendre votre séjour plaisant.

Review 58:The location and hospitality

Review 59:The nice atmosphere and treatment of the personel, the possibility of bikes

Review 60:long walk to ruins

Review 61:Staff

Review 62:Very friendly and helpful proprietors and staff. Particularly good value.

Review 63:The breakfast exceeded all our expectations. And the dinner was very good too.

Review 64:English not spoken

Review 65:walking distance to Paestom Scavi

Review 66:wifi slow

Review 67:we stayed one night and everything was fine. Friendly staff

Review 68:Lovely staff, very good food and close proximity to Old City.

Review 69:Very convenient for visiting the ruins at Paestum. Two minutes walk from the beach. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good value for money.

Review 70:Shower wet floor, hard pillows, mouldy cake offered at breakfast!

Review 71:Location, friendly helpful staff, great dinner, safe onsite parking.

Review 72:We had the warmest welcome of any hotel we have stayed at across the world. Two lovely and polite gentlemen

Review 73:Breakfast could be more varied.

Review 74:Comfortable and quiet hotel, 3 min walk from the beach. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

Review 75:The local mobile telephone signal was not good but this was outside the control of the hotel.

Review 76:This family managed hotel was very comfortable, friendly and all the staff went overboard to make sure our stay was relaxing and enjoyable. They spared no effort to ensure that our needs were met. We enjoyed breakfast and several suppers during our stay including a memorable dinner with our friends arranged by Nino. Fantastic job everyone - we will return! Carole and Brian, Bristol U.K.

Review 77:nextdoor buillding is being renovated which was noisy. fortunately we could move to room on other side of the building

Review 78:very friendly staff excellent service

Review 79:The Hotel Poseidonia Mare has a family atmosphere and is imbued with a generous spirit. It is a happy place, filled with echoes of ancient Grecian times. The proximity of this little bit of paradise to the beach is wonderful. And the beach itself is excellent. And then there is the excellent cuisine and service that this Hotel provides. All this makes one want to revisit!

Review 80:The most professional staff I've ever encountered. Staff remembered me from two years ago. Helpful with directions, side trips. Breakfast is great, and the hotel also serves dinner (excellent regional cooking). Homemade breads, etc.

Review 81:Only that hotel not very busy so a bit quiet in dining room but certainly very good value for money.

Review 82:A small Italian hotel near the beach. Unpretentious and good value for money. Nice garden to enjoy a beer in. Family run hotel and very friendly and helpful. Safe parking and short walk to beach but best thing was proximity to Paestium - less than 5 minutes by car.

Review 83:The hard Italian pillows!

Review 84:The whole staff, from the owners to our dining room waitress were so helpful and interested in making our stay special!! It seemed like visiting friends rather than staying in a hotel. The room was attractive, the balcony overlooking the patio was a great place to "chill out" with a bottle of excellent wine from their bar, the breakfast buffet was expansive, and there was plenty of coffee. When they found out my husband had an interest in the WWII monuments in the area, they made sure we were included in a local ceremony commemorating the invasion. A wonderful hotel gave us a fabulous stay!

Review 85:Great hotel, lovely location and wonderfully friendly staff!! Only a few minutes to walk to the beach and the greek temples are also within walking distance (~ 1km). We arrived on an extremely busy day in Paestum and got a bit lost driving around trying to find the hotel - called the hotel and the owner immediately drove out to meet us so we could follow him back to the hotel's carpark. Nice selection of food available for breakfast, including hot bacon & eggs. Overall we had a great stay and would highly recommend it.

Review 86:Paestum out of season can be a little depressing (dirty beach, empty streets, closed shops), but the temples and museum are breathtking

Review 87:The wonderful attentive staff is the great plus of this hotel. Friendly welcome, breakfast cooked to order, bicycles available. This place is clean, comfortable and excellent value for money.

Review 88:Booking.com listed the distance from the train station as under 1km and a ten minute walk. It is really over 3km and a 35 minute walk. With prior arrangement the owner will pick you up and drop you off

Review 89:HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The owner, Alessandro, is terrific. I was there during the off season and at 7pm there were no restaurants open in the neighborhood. He drove me to one a few miles away and picked me up 90 minutes later. He dropped off and picked up my laundry. Super host and will do anything for you. Large clean room with a balcony and strong wifi. Location close to a nice beach. Easy walk to excellent historic site. In almost 200 reviews, this is only the 2nd 10. That I have given.

Review 90:The rainy weather was the only real problem. (No ones fault). I know how wonderful it will be in the summer time. I suppose the pillows could have been softer.

Review 91:Welcomed from the moment we walked in the door! prosecco & excellent snack. The best bufalo mozzarella and bread! Our room was roomy and comfortable. We were given bicycles to ride to the Paestum Ruins. Walked the beach close by. Slept very well (my sister needed more blankets as it was rainy and chilly and they gave us plenty of warm blankets). Breakfast was outstanding. Small town atmosphere, warm and friendly, beach close by and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming and accommodating. I can not wait to bring my college aged son and daughter here for the summer!

Review 92:NOTHING! It was Perfect!

Review 93:The Poseidonia Mare has got to be one of the best kept secrets in all of Italy! It seems as though everytime I write reviews about the places I have stayed, everyone catches on and then when i want to go again, it's filled up! It was our first time to Paestum to see the ruins which are well worth seeing. We were greeted as if we were family when we arrived. This hotel is operated by 2 brothers names Nino and Alessandro De Santi. The sister Sofia is probably one of the best cooks in all of Italy!. The best Cavatelli you ever tasted along with many other Italian dishes all homemade with not only wonderful ingredients but made with love! She even let us watch her make some of the pasta! The waitress Kasia was top on my list and also very efficient presently the wonderful foods coming out of the kitchen The hotel certainly had the feel of something very unique with detailed hand painted walls and ceilings that if you didn't touch it, you might have thought it was wallpaper. The brothers mentioned that they had a very talented painter that was either from Pompii or it was painted similiar to what you see in Pompii. Everything and I mean everything was hand painted. There was no need to eat anywhere else but at the resturant with someone as wonderful as Sofia cooking and the best part was that the cost with vine water and entree included in the price which ranged from 10 euro's to 15euros. The breakfast was like none other that I have ever eaten in all my trips to Italy. They had the typical Italian sweet breads but also eggs/bacon/ham etc that was included. They have a wonderful waitress named Kasia who was the best. The brothers were so impressed that my mother (first generation from Italy)who was traveling with us could understand the Napoli dialet, they insisted that she have her own room instead of sharing one with my husband and myself. They gave her a room to herself free of charge!

Review 94:We stayed at this hotel in mid September and at the end of the season so it was quite quiet. The room was superb with a balcony and a glimpse of the sea. The hotel itself showed attention to detail in every way. The breakfasts and evening meals were excellent and the staff could not have been more helpful. The location is brilliant within an easy walk of the amazing Paestum archeological site, a mozzarella farm and a superb beach. You can walk for hours on this huge expanse of sand. The train station is allows for quite easy travel to Salerno and then on to Naples or Herculaneum, Pompei or the Amalfi. This hotel is a real gem.

Review 95:The bed was a little hard

Review 96:The rooms were clean and tidy with quirky decoration. Front desk people were courteous and very helpful and the young lady in the restaurant was excellent, so to was the breakfast for that matter. The outside of the hotel looks a little weathered but the interior looks newly refurbished and very comfortable. The dinner at the restaurant was very good also the small restaurant 20 m down the road was excellent value. Highly recommended.

Review 97:The hotel is really great. The owner, the Manager and the staff try hard to make your staying there extremely pleasant. It is close to beach. The hotel offers very good breakfasts, free and safe parking, free Wi-Fi. What else may one need?

Review 98:Rooms could be renewed a bit.

Review 99:Extremly friendly staff that makes this hotel really family owned. The breakfast was good with a varity of food. Hotel is situated very close to the beach area and buffolo farm. Will recommend this hotel to those who want to spend good time far from noisy centers enjoing good service, food and sea.

Review 100:Very professional and friendly staff, who made our stay in Paestum one of the best in our 2 weeks Italy travel. The staff informs you correctly about the area and they really want you to enjoy your stay. The bedroom was very comfortable and pleasant and even with a terrace. We had dinner at this hotel to taste local food (for example pasta with ricotta and fiore di zucca) and it was indeed the best food we had in our Italy trip. Free parking in the hotel's inner yard and good WIFI (free) in the hotel room.

Review 101:Although the hotel quality, including also other hotels in the area as far as we could observe, was very high the choices for entertainment in this area were a bit poor: apart from a couple of low quality tavernas and street shops there was really nothing else for the tourists to do.

Review 102:Hotel staff are very friendly and always helpful. Room was spacious offering every comfort someone needs. The hotel is located a 2 min walk from the sandy beach.

Review 103:Breakfast mediocre / nothing special. No possibility to have dinner or breakfast outside.

Review 104:Very friendly and helpful reception. Close to the beach and on walking distance (20 min) to the Paestum site. Clean but basic room.

Review 105:I don't understand why Italian hotels love to have hard beds :-(

Review 106:Overall experience - such lovely & helpful staff, great restaurant& nice rooms & location

Review 107:The staff icredibly helpful, location great for visiting sites and enjoxing the beach. The food ead excellent and the service superb. We definately recommend this hotel.

Review 108:There is not a lot to do in Paestum once you have seen the ruins, which were magnificent and well worth seeing.

Review 109:Each and every one of the staff were so helpful and friendly. They went out of their way to help from pickups to making cups of tea. Truly very genuine lovely people running a lovely clean hotel.

Review 110:The bed was kind of uncomfortable and we were awakened by roosters.

Review 111:The breakfast was amazing. The facilities were up to date and clean. The staff were always willing to help and offer their services.

Review 112:The very friendly welcome, the hotel's position near the sea and a walk from the Ancient Greek temples of Paestum, the offer of free bikes to visit the area, the excellent breakfast and delicious dinners and good local wine and produce used

Review 113:All the staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful which creates a very relaxed atmosphere. It is located next to a wide sandy beach and a short distance to the Paestum temples. The hotel encouraged us to use their free bikes to cycle to the temples. The buffalo mozzarella is superb - especially for breakfast. We had a thoroughly relaxed and enjoyable staying at the hotel.

Review 114:We were a little surprised that it was not directly on the beach but it didn't spoil our stay there.

Review 115:The hotel was maintained beautifully. The colors were very natural and there was a nice balcony with table and chairs. It was close to the Greek ruins and the buffalo farm, we walked to both. The breakfast and dinner were abundant with fresh fruits, bread and cheese. Wonderful friendly waitress, Palo made our meals special. The owners and manager were very helpful with directions and things to do and see in the area.

Review 116:We booked this hotel based on the recommendations on Booking.com andfound the high rating well justified. The hotel staff were veryfriendly and informative and made every effort to ensure our stay wasas comfortible as possible. It was spotlessly clean and the restuarantoffered good quality local cuisine. The hotel was excellent value andwe have no hesitation in strongly recommending it. Although wedidn't take up the option of free bike hire it was a nice touch. The temples of Paestum are approx. 1Km from the hotel and the sandybeach is just 100m away.

Review 117:Our aim was to see the ruined temples. This was just as exciting as Pompeii and thoroughly enjoyed seeing them. The position of the hotel was very close and the staff were very helpful in informing us all about the ruins. The quality of the hotel food was excellent.
