Reviews for BEST WESTERN Rosslare Danby Lodge
Review 1:Unusually, we had a bad night's sleep ( we've stayed before). I found the bed a bit hard. My husband found the room too hot.
Review 2:Good location, easy access to the ferry, charming staff.
Review 3:My room was very cold and the heater in it did not work.
Review 4:Staff were efficient and I had to change my date of arrival because my ferry as cancelled. This was effected without fuss.
Review 5:Shower in room was absolutely rubbish. The water just trickled out and took ages to wash .Also the receptionist was a bit abrupt because we didn't want the room that she gave us,which was outside the hotel and people who took those rooms were coming in soaked
Review 6:The evening meal was very good and the waitress was very nice. The breakfast in morning was good too
Review 7:It was excellent for our purposes (a stop-over following a ferry journey). It was our 3rd time so clearly we have been happy with The Danby Lodge. The rooms are large and comfortable, the standard of cleanliness is high and the food good. We expect to use it for future trips.
Review 8:The room door rattled a little during the night but there was storm blowing outside so might have been the exception (It wasn't that bad it's our only issue)
Review 9:Spacious & very clean room Very nice uisce soap & shower gels
Review 10:Nothing to dislike
Review 11:Very happy with our room and service and hospitially shown to us was excellent . Thank you for having us . Would highly recommend your Hotel . Kind regards Mary Mervyn and Shane Owens
Review 12:Excellent room (room 12) and amazing value for money. The food in the bar was also tasty and well presented - all service on the night was performed by Linda and she certainly excelled when it came to multi-tasking:)
Review 13:Food was only average and the smell of hot fat permeated throughout the bar area which was rather off-putting. The Irish beef special tasted very warmed up and the vegetables were over-cooked.
Review 14:Nice large room and bathroom. Convenient location, large car park. Plenty of room. Staff helpful and friendly.
Review 15:Breakfast not good bacon under cooked no one to explain as to what to do as regards breakfast if it was self service waitress service we didn't know what we should do we were given no menu .
Review 16:Location room was good very clean
Review 17:No hot water at 8am. Was told to wait 15 mins and try again. No avail, had to shower in cold water. I'm surprised they couldn't hear me scream for the reception desk! Very disappointed, would never stay again, hot water is a basic requirement of an hotel
Review 18:Located close to Rosslare port on the main road out of town so easy to find
Review 19:Only some road noise, not a big problem.
Review 20:This was surprisingly spacious with a full bathroom, newly renovated hotel with good dining in house, good position for travellers on main highway.
Review 21:Luke warm shower. Continually told by staff to wait 5-10mins for shower to be hot but after an hour there was no change. Staff not very helpful unfortunately. We were located on the ground floor and when the fire door was opened and shut the bedroom door vibrated terribly. Mattress not comfortable.
Review 22:Shower was very small. Pillows weren't very comfortable .
Review 23:Very friendly staff on all levels. Room was of a good size. Great location for an early start to rosslare ferry port . Excellent bar & dining facilities .
Review 24:2 couples, 4 rooms, 2 inward, 2 out ward. 3 of four rooms on floor 2 - showers dribbled out and almost unusable - need pumps! Ground floor ok, just.
Review 25:Great location for Ferry, great rooms, great breakfast and good restaurant.
Review 26:Wonderful hotel with fabulous staff who could not do enough for guests, the room was warm and comfortable, great bathroom. Food at both breakfast time and in the evening was excellent and filling.
Review 27:Woman on reception no where to be seen. Saorview TV kept cutting off, No hot water in shower at 9pm
Review 28:Very comfortable bed and clean. Quiet during night.
Review 29:There was nowhere to sit and relax in the main part of the hotel, just the restaurant. The breakfast was disappointing. My son doesn't eat meat, just fish, and asked for kippers with his breakfast. We had to wait 15-20 minutes for them to be cooked and when they arrived he had been given a whole plateful! He would have liked a couple of kippers and the non meat items on the buffet, but as we had to rush for the ferry and the kippers took so long, we didn't have time. Not really the standard I expect from Best Western. Also, we had requested an early departure time and didn't get a reply from the hotel.
Review 30:very comfortable room.
Review 31:the odour of stale cooking oil wafting all through the reception area & the corridors leading to the rooms
Review 32:The staff were very pleasant & very helpful
Review 33:The bed comfort was far from ideal. Both of us complained of back pain the following mornings. I see from previous reviews this was an issue with other travellers. The Breakfast while excellent value at €10 pp. The Breakfast was obviously deep fried. The hash browns were reheated in hot grease. However, the continental option was without fault. We only chose breakfast one of the mornings. With the close proximity of a garage shop meant it was easy to get a quick sandwich. The staff all seemed to double job, bar work, reception, morning breakfast duty. This meant some areas suffered. The obvious solution here is to employ more staff where and when required
Review 34:This hotel was certainly excellent value for money. it's cleanliness, ideal location cannot be overrated. The food in the bar was without fault. The steak on a board was cooked to perfection and was cheaper than other local eateries in the local area.
Review 35:We arrived very late 11.30pm but the staff were very helpful and checked us in quickly. We left early to catch the ferry but as we had paid the night before it was just a case of dropping keys off. We had a dog with us and that was no problem as we had confirmed this before hand. Good hotel.
Review 36:No dislikes but there was that frequently found annoyance whereby previous guests left an unduly early alarm setting on the clock/radio.
Review 37:It's clean comfortable and convenient for my subsequent onward journey. The highlight of my stay was an excellent (Irish Beef) steak dinner. I've enjoyed New York steaks in NY and Argentinean beef elsewhere and this was easily as good as those!
Review 38:Bed very uncomfortable with dip in middle, suspect old and worn out. Pillows appeared to be cheap hard foam.
Review 39:Staff very helpful, efficient and friendly
Review 40:As always, a warm welcome and comfortable stay at this very nice hotel. Good location for access to ferry port - the perfect finale for our regular trips to Ireland and excellent value for money.
Review 41:The staff were courteous and welcoming. The bar menu was adequate and the food was good. I've stayed here on three occasions and have always been made to feel welcome.
Review 42:The mattress spings were broken resulting in a very long uncomfortable night when told receptionist we were told that they are in process of replacing them but this did not help us
Review 43:It was clean, staff were friendly
Review 44:A very well organised hotel with a special aisle to accomodate people with pets.A lovely lawn with flowers in front of the building, with all the rooms on the ground floor.Very nice staff.
Review 45:Not the place to stay if you want a quiet night. We stayed on a Thursday and it was the third wedding that week and as we were leaving on Friday morning they were getting ready for another that night. The sound proofing was non existent. Wedding guests were returning to their rooms all night the final one at 4am and they hammered on our door on the way to their room. We could hear everything from next door, the rooms above and the corridor even the drunk in the room above going to the toilet. Shame as the staff were lovely.
Review 46:We were booked at the beginning and the end of our holidays. On our return for the final night of our holiday we were informed that there was no record of our booking and we were unable to be accommodated due to the hotel being fully booked. This accommodation was booked prior to us leaving Wales and we had paperwork from Booking.Com to confirm this. It appears that it was an error by the hotels staff which was confirmed a couple of days later via a telephone call apologising for the mistake. Luckily we were able to catch a ferry that night which cost us a fee of £30. We had such a lovely time in Ireland but this spoilt the end of the holiday..
Review 47:Staff were very polite and helpful. Food was good.
Review 48:The beds were extremely uncomfortable, we could feel the springs through the mattresses. Although we were given an upstairs room it was situated close to the bar on the ground floor and at 1:30am we could hear glass bottles being moved/possibly disposed of.
Review 49:Our room was very clean.
Review 50:Room 23 smelt of wet dog and an overwhelmingly scented room freshener that didn't disguise it. For this reason alone I would not stay again.
Review 51:Friendly attentive staff. The room was clean. We ate in the bar in the evening and it was ok. The breakfast was excellent and good value.
Review 52:A little disappointed that a hoover was been used in the room above mine at 9.15 in the morning while I was trying to sleep should never have happened.
Review 53:Staff were lovely hotel fab food amazing
Review 54:the extraction fan over the kitchen was noisy from 6.30 in the morning - as we had to get up and head to the port it didn't matter to us but could have been annoying if we had needed more sleep!
Review 55:The night porter and barman was very welcoming; the family room was large and clean and the beds were comfortable.
Review 56:Variable staff service level (sometimes lots of staff wanting to help, sometimes hard to find anyone), noisy event until early hours, restaurant area unappealing - meaning we went out to eat having planned to eat at the hotel. Very low water pressure - shower more of a trickle!
Review 57:One of our rooms was a family room for 4 - our children found this very comfortable. Both rooms were large and airy and looked recently painted. Bathrooms were new. Kettle and tea making supplies provided.
Review 58:Poor shower with minimal water pressure, hot buffet Irish breakfast was rather dried out.
Review 59:Friendly staff offering good value evening food and drinks. Outside play area for small kids.
Review 60:We had a room on the ground floor and it was noisy. We were woken up at 3.30am by people talking in the corridor and again at 5.30am by people in the car park outside our window. They seemed to be guests from a wedding party and had obviously not been to bed. A group of 4 men were trying to climb a tree. Also the windows were directly onto the car park and were clear glass which meant that we had to have the curtains closed all the time. We have stayed a number of times before and have been happy but will not stay again.
Review 61:When we arrived the staff made us welcome and made every effort to ensure we were made to feel at ease. In the morning we required early morning breakfast and again were were made to feel comfortable. even the night security made the effort and seemed to enjoy being helpful.
Review 62:Would have liked mugs and toiletries to be available in the room.
Review 63:Stayed here on our way into Ireland and on our way home. Both times it exceeded our expectations. Its a great place to stay, large spacious, yet cosy and warm and the food was fabulous.
Review 64:Didn't like the small cups, would have preferred mugs? Also, would like toiletries to be 'in' the room .. don't like having to ask for essentials.
Review 65:Room was large, bright and comfortable, with a real bath. The food was fabulous. We really enjoyed staying there and will definitely stay again - felt cosy and warm.
Review 66:Heat if rooms and windows not opening very far
Review 67:Outside play area, help from member of staff who brought drinks outside for me while I was watching children in the play area.
Review 68:We ate in the bar for our evening meal. I had scampi, which was overcooked, I mentioned this to a member of staff and all she said was "oh really". No apology.
Review 69:The location was very good as we needed to catch the ferry.
Review 70:We had an evening meal in the dining room it was fairly ordinary.
Review 71:We stayed here as it was close to the ferry back to Wales from Ireland. The accommodation was spotless and fresh and clean.
Review 72:Water pressure fluctuates a bit causing temp to do likewise
Review 73:Perfect stopover for ferry travellers. Great restaurant, 10 minutes to ferry terminal. Helpful staff.
Review 74:Initially charged the wrong amount for dinner with bill relating to another table. Not able to get a BBC or Sky news channel and no luck with coverage of Wimbledon!
Review 75:Closeness to ferry port. Spacious room and very clean although not very comfortable.Staff friendly and accomodatiing.
Review 76:Mattress a bit tired. No shower pressure. No food till 6pm and nowhere nearby to walk out to and get food. Fire alarm went off at 6am. Went downstairs could find no fire marshall so went into kitchen saw the chef then a young member of staff came out and said it was set off by someone in the shower leavong the bathtoom door open? Staff training for Fire drill needs improving. Fire Marshall should be wearing a yellow jacket. Will not be coming back.
Review 77:Location and nice staff.
Review 78:The beds were very uncomfortable, the lights were on outside the property until after 2 in the morning so the room was very bright.
Review 79:Staff very pleasant & accommodating, the food was basic but quite tasty and there was a play area for kids!
Review 80:Group of loud mouthed people making everyone cringe. Retired early to get clear from them. Would have expected management to ask them to tone down the bad language. Will not stay here again.
Review 81:Friendly staff, food ok, room great
Review 82:Dining facilities were very basic and stark. Food was just okay, nothing great but was also inexpensive to match. Could do with updating all of the public area. I wouldn't sit relaxing in it at present.
Review 83:Location of hotel very good in relation to most areas of Wexford, in particular Rosslare Strand, harbour and Wexford town. Our room was very clean, spacious and very well equipped for a 3 star hotel, tea and coffee and bikkies provided as well as soap and shower essentials and clean towels daily. When windows were closed, there wasn't a sound to be heard from outside. Perfect. Staff very friendly and helpful and great value for money.
Review 84:Dining room atmosphere would benefit from carpeting to make it feel more welcoming.
Review 85:Very comfortable room. Very friendly, welcoming, helpful and efficient staff. Ample and easy car parking. Close to Rosslare ferry port.
Review 86:Adequate but dull room.
Review 87:Reasonably priced Hotel for one night, rooms a bit dull but OK overnight stay. Good food served in bar, as rooms are set back from busy road very little traffic noise
Review 88:Mattresses need changing to harder and thicker quality.
Review 89:Nice quiet comfortable rooms. excellent breakfast especially fresh fruit bowl and varied hot choices. Seafood chowder and soda bread hit the spot.
Review 90:TV was very old with bad reception. WiFi non existent in our room. Room was small and a long way from the dining room. No undercover walkways for bad weather. Staff didn't follow up on supplying new batteries for TV remote.
Review 91:It was handy to the car ferry which we were taking the next day.
Review 92:Not what one expects from a so-called 'good hotel'.Nothing like the private hotels we stayed in during our tour of 'The Wild West Atlantic Coast'.Would not return or recommend to others - on the contrary.
Review 93:Not much really.Staff friendly and bar food acceptable as such, but expected a restaurant and ability to have lunch!
Review 94:I booked this hotel for my elderly father as a stopover before catching a ferry. He struggles to walk and staff were extremely helpful with bags, etc. he said room was very well appointed and comfortable.
Review 95:The shower in room 7 was appalling with simply a dribble of water. This is a fundamental need.
Review 96:The staff, particularly the bar person, were very friendly and helpful.
Review 97:There wasn.t anything that I could complain about
Review 98:The evening meal with please drinks with very pleasant and helpful staff Bedroom & bed very pleasant & comfortable, a spacious room with relaxing furniture, breakfast very tasty
Review 99:The food wasn't the best I've ever had. Some items on the menu weren't available and the vegetables were microwaved. It probably wasn't as bad as this sounds but I would give it a 6.5 out of 10.
Review 100:The staff were helpful and friendly. Location is handy for the ferry.
Review 101:TV only had one channel working, No heating in the bathroom. Glass in the door means you can't have a dark room, lots of noise from a party and kids out late in the garden.
Review 102:Location very convenient for the ferry
Review 103:It is ideal for the Rosslare ferry, the bedroom/bathrom was comfortable and clean. Staff all very friendly/helpful and dinner good. Grounds perfect for walking the dog which slept in the car and overall as value for money this hotel would be hard to beat.
Review 104:The shower was a disgrace very old fashioned shower water pressure terrible water went cold too quick this is the reason I won't stay here again. The decor was very dated
Review 105:All the staff were extremely friendly and the bar food was top clasd
Review 106:A trivial quibble really, but it was an unusually cold night and we found that the radiator wasn't quite up to the job of heating such a large room. Once in bed however the room temperature was fine.
Review 107:Our room (No 12) was very spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent and the staff friendly and welcoming. The bar / TV lounge was airy and spacious. The hotel was well illuminated externally and so was easy to find when travelling late on a dark winter's evening.
Review 108:Bed was a bit squeaky but we will definitely stay again.
Review 109:Clean, friendly, good food with huge portions, cot ready in large room when we arrived. Excellent breakfast. Handy for the ferry about 15 minutes from the port.
Review 110:Staff were very helpful and friendly upon arrival. They could not do enough for us! Meal at the bar was very good and decent value for money. Room was very clean, as was the rest of the hotel (from what we saw). Will stop off here next time we visit Ireland.
Review 111:We were given pet grid fly room but it was freezing . Heating had not been turned on and first 2 electric heaters didn't work . Then we got a new heater and 2 extra duvets , the staff were amazingly helpful
Review 112:Stayed over early December. Having spent a long drive in Uk and the ferry crossing from Pembroke, it was a welcome overnight stay at Danby Lodge. Excellent location for a rest before travelling on after a hearty breakfast the next morning! Will certainly consider staying here again. Room (more like a suite) was comfortable and excellent value for money, although the time of year may have made this such a great deal!
Review 113:Nearly always overshoot the entrance. Have been doing this for about 20 years .
Review 114:I have always stayed there when in Rosslare. Rooms good size and comfortable. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Review 115:Signage coming from Rosslare. We have stayed here many times but still drive by in the dark. Lit pre signage needed.
Review 116:customer service warm, comfortable, large rooms
Review 117:Great location for the ferries to/from the UK less than 5 miles from the port.. Helpful, cheerful staff and the hotel was dog friendly even if they did charge 20 Euro for him. Would still go back again.
Review 118:Bar type restaurant only. 1st visit - Food ok 2nd visit - Food Absolutely RUBBISH, Hot food-cold plates, Incorrect order, All food under cooked. Returned food and credited. Explanation - New cook ?
Review 119:The room was a little warm but we just opened the windows.
Review 120:Excellent large family room. Very clean and comfortable beds. Perfect for our needs and we will always stay here on our return journey from Ireland. Outstanding value for money.
Review 121:Although hotel had enough guests, the bar was empty by 9-00pm, all up early to catch first ferry or the fact the TV was in in the bar, when some nice background music might have been better
Review 122:Nice grounds,friendly staff,ideal location
Review 123:Ist time we had a room on the first floor front & it was noisy with road. Also room was warm as we had to keep windows closed
Review 124:Staff were friendly, breakfast was good, room was clean
Review 125:Felt €20 per night charge for dog was a little extortionate, when no mention of it had been made at time of booking. No wifi available in outside rooms Bathroom fittings a bit tired. Our particular stay included occupants in the next room very noisy arguing in the early hours of the night, disturbing our sleep, when we had to get up early for Ferry Bar/resturant understaffed.
Review 126:Location to Rosslare port Plenty of area to walk dog Outside access to room for travellers with dog Large car park. Good bar food
Review 127:Not having hot water in 3 of the 5 rooms we booked. We emailed the hotel, told them we arrive approx 1pm, rooms allocated at 2.30 pm, 3 rooms had no hot water, we were told its because most client do not arrive until 1800 hrs. We were then given various excuses and times for the hot water to be available. It was on approx 1800 hrs. After much discussion the hotel agreed to one room FOC. Rediculos situation, hotel states rooms available from 14.00 hrs but hot water not available until 18.00 hrs.
Review 128:Food
Review 129:The staff were very friendly and helpful. However they did seem to be under a great deal of pressure and it seemed as if an increase in their numbers would help them to maintain their high standard of care.
Review 130:All the above-noted points
Review 131:Thought the hotel was closer to the ferry terminal. Vegetarian menu in bar was disappointing.
Review 132:The hotel building was beautiful and the history of the painter Danby was lovely to hear about... The playground was a bonus for a child who had been sat in a car for hours.
