Reviews for Reggae Hostel
Review 1:It was extremely loud at all times. There are no official quiet hours and a very loud party was going on a few doors away until 4 a.m. - so a horrible nights sleep.
Review 2:Staff was very friendly and helpful. Grocery store, ATM, and restaurants were walking distance away.
Review 3:stayed there for one night to get an early flight from KIN; couldn't get any sleep though because it was quite noisy; we could hear the music from the bar& other guests kept goin in and out...
Review 4:Was such a good space to meet other travellers with an awesome bar and outdoor setting out the back. The staff are soooo nice, you will have a lot of fun with them. Tour options are offered daily, there is an option for air conditioned rooms, guaranteeing a good sleep. This place began to feel like home before I left it, will really miss the staff.
Review 5:Rooms a little bit too crowded, some activities they organize aren't too reliable (once we didn't go bcos there weren't enough people and once at night they took us to a place we hadn't asked for)
Review 6:Nice staff, nice activities, not bad location, good breakfast.
Review 7:The hostel is in the middle of nothing... There is just a supermarket at 10 minutes walking, but they don't recommend you to walk in the night in Kingston, so if you want to go out at night, you will need a taxi no matter where you want to go.
Review 8:Reggae Hostel in Kingston is the perfect enviroment to meet new people with the same hobbies than you (if you are travelling alone, you will meet partners to travel with, for sure). There is also a communal kitchen that you can use at any time... and they offer typical jamaican breakfast everyday for 4 american dolars. The staff is nice and helpful :)
Review 9:need a sign outside or even on the main roads to help point the way.
Review 10:great place to chill out and meet like minded people if you are a back packer. Friendly staff, secure location and comfortable. It does exactly what it says on the tin.
Review 11:The size of the rooms could be bigger, the bedding could be better and the addition of wifi would really help.
Review 12:I really liked the simplicity of the Place. It had a really nice reggae vibe and decor. The people where very friendly and courteous. I will definitely go again. I love that it was gated with security as well. I felt pretty safe there.
Review 13:The room was quite hot without A/C and there was no much water for the shower
Review 14:We really liked the typical Jamaican breakfast with ackee and saltfish and the king size bed.
Review 15:Very friendly staff and sociable layout- don't be fooled, this is a party hostel. If you want solitude and quiet, you'll need to look elsewhere. Great bar/backyard area and reggae jams in the air. A whiteboard lists daily events and outings. Very secure as well- there's a security guard on duty 24/7 and a tall fence surrounds the property.
Review 16:I stayed on private and also on shared room; of course staying on private is better. Staff is helpful and has a lot of activities to do, one per day, one per night. There's a garden bar where to spend the night if you stay in. Kitchen is small but works. Wifi is good, better than public PC located in the living room.
Review 17:unfortunately while i was there, the water situation was a bit of a joke. however, again, the staff were unreal and went out of their way to find alternate solutions to work around this issue.
Review 18:the staff were amazing, all seriously friendly and welcoming people who went out of their way to make your stay a pleasure and even took you out to the clubs to make sure you also felt safe.
Review 19:Very expensive for what you get, no kitchen facilities and the wifi is sketchy. We asked the staff several questions about the area and were only diected to the "tourist" expensive options for transport etc.
Review 20:They had water supply disruptions that were outside their control..thejamaican water authority turn the kingston water off at will...also thewet season is late so the kingston reservoirs are low...
Review 21:The staff are great and the free sunday trip to cane river falls was agood day out ..the food cooked by Reggae Hostel was cheap andnice....close to half way tree transport CENTRE,which has cheap busesand route taxi's going to most places in jamaica, and has a jutcbus information kiosk on the top floor...to get to from Reggae Hostelthe airport by bus you need to go to "downtown" and swapbuses there
Review 22:Too warm to sleep, but its Jamaican weather :D
Review 23:Such a lovely place, felt like home. Staff is amazing, so friendly and caring. Making delicious breakfast and dinner! Coffee so good! Location is good, peaceful, food store close-by, airport -30min. Definitely recommend staying there!
Review 24:Can get hot at night as fans only work for lower bunkbeds. The room I stayed at had poor ventilation. Front desk was a bit cold. We heard it was a dangerous place at night, not inside the hostel but on the streets.
Review 25:Good place to meet other travelers.
Review 26:The location is a bit far and you need a taxi in order to get to everywhere
Review 27:The staff is amazing, realy helpful and arranges activities every day and every night. There is a small nice bar at the location.
Review 28:Staff were friendly and helpful, as were the guests! Location was good with bus to town (or walk), Marley Museum, Avis rent-a-car and getting out of town. Free computer was excellent. Good Jamaican breakfast. Good arrangement for taxi to airport early in the morning. Free Sunday dinner (as well as 4th anniversary party the next day, which was spectacular).
Review 29:Terrible beds, plus they RENT towels for JMD200. After paying 26 USD per night I think I deserve a towel. A bit misplaced, no signs or directions from the adjacent streets (OK, might be because of security). Generally, the cheapest option in Kingston. Book it only if you're on a budget.
Review 30:Polite staff, peaceful neighborhood. Managed to meet cool people there.
Review 31:They ran out of breakfast some mornings. Of course difficult to estimate the number of people eating, but there should be some way of planning ahead (stuff in freezer etc).
Review 32:The staff is really nice, organizing programme in the evenings and sometimes also day programme. E.g. owner David/Scotty drove a bunch of us out to Hellshire beach, and stayed there while we enjoyed the day. The place is excellent for meeting other people travelling in Jamaica. We got the good tips from our fellow hostel visitors, and good company as well. You can get a decent breakfast (american och jamaican) at the hostel for 300 jmdollars (appr 3 euros). Coffee and tea are for free.
Review 33:I got in late and my key was left for me, the next morning I went to pay for my room I was told they cancelled my reservation and rebooked my room.
Review 34:I like Marlene & Scotty. The location is good.
Review 35:I was one week in Jamaica and I stayed two nights in this amazing hostel. Is really a nice and comfortable place to stay. But not just that, you will find a great atmosphere in there with many people from all over the world which will make easy to meet people specially if you are planning to travel alone. I would recommend this hostel! The best in Kingston!
Review 36:I had ordered an ensuite but in the end had to share the shower as work was being done to it. Was given only 2 days notice of the change. Someone came to visit us but could only stay in the foyer area - it would have been good if he could have come in the.back garden as he was a fellow.musician.
Review 37:The cleanliness of the place, getting to talk in communal areas to people all over the world, the opportunity of performing to the other residents if wished. It has the potential to have a real community feel about it.Only stayed one night but would like to stay there again if I'm Kingston for a longer period.
Review 38:Even I thought that breakfast was included as from booking details, but the staff said that it wasn't true, anyway I didn't complain at that time.
Review 39:The possibility to meet people from around the world in a quiet place and enjoy to communicate with them.
Review 40:The place is in a good location, near from the Half Way Tree, where you ca pic buses to move all over. The staff is friendly, they help you with your doubts and even go out with you to amazing parties during the night. There is a nice bar inside de hostel, the rooms are comfortable and fresh, the restrooms are clean and tidy.
Review 41:I had booked private with bathroom but upon arrival that room was not available. Still though, they gave me a good room at great price! Line up early for dinner or risk going hungry :)
Review 42:I've stayed at Reggae Hostel Ocho Rios before but this was my first time in Kingston. I was no disappointed. This place attracts the most amazing people from all over the world and is a great place to get back to basics. Breakfast was included with private room and was delicious! Surprisingly it was the best Ackee, fried dumpling and plantain I had through my travels in Jamaica! Private room very comfortable, ice cold a/c. Wifi worked impeccably throughout public and private areas.
Review 43:The place will do with some upgrading.
Review 44:The staff were some of the best I have met in over 20 nations I have visited. They make your stay feel like you are in a family setting.
Review 45:Hard to find on your own
Review 46:The free meal every night!!! Yes FREE!!! The staff was very helpful and nice. Security on site every night. Bar on sight in a very large and nice court yard.
Review 47:The breakfast was very basic. The mattresses were old and very used. During my stay there was a problem with the computer so I couldnt access the internet. The bathroom is available but outside your room. Overall its clean and the staff is courteous and polite. This being said I would never go back there.
Review 48:Well...dont have too expectations after all its a hostel :)
Review 49:This was not a hostel were the guests inter mingled. Everyone kept to themselves, it was quiet and very laid back. The only music played at the bar/patio area was dancehall. I didn't hear one reggae song, which I thought was strange. But I was there on a Monday night.
Review 50:Very nice clean rooms, some wirh A/C. Full kitchen, common areas, nice patio with bar area. Free breakfast consisted id tea coffee toast and fruit. Computer and printer available for your use. Several full bathrooms. Full security.

Review 88:no mirror in the room,
Review 89:the friendly courtyard bar and good ambiance
Review 90:The night time staff constantly made me feel like I was interrupting his sleep. There was also the smell of weed being smoked when I went to the bathroom in the night and there was a woman who was up through the night who was smoking pretty much next to me inside when I was getting ready to leave in the morning. I do take the hostel's advertisment that there was nonsmoking inside quite seriously abiding smoke.
Review 91:The day time staff that checked me in were excellent.
Review 92:one of the best hostels we've been! We had a private room with a large bed, very good WLan in the room. On sundays there is a free BBQ and sometimes they take you to some places like the DubClub - it's worth it! We will stay there again, we booked already.
Review 93:nothing, we had a great experience
Review 94:This is the most fun hostel I have ever stayed at. Reggae hostel goes above and beyond to create a little community. Every night you can go out with them to experience local (non-touristy) nightlife. My favorite was the Sunday night Dub Club. The staff is super friendly and there is hot coffee available 24-7.
Review 95:they didn't send me my quetsion! They don't know the traveller needs thing and think! For Exsample:they didn't know the traveller need the Telephone card{with Internet},it can GPS and cheak the Information etc.the Hostel only sale Cola and water, and call Taxi.they can sales the phone card add Credit.Outside no the Number.Nobody know the Hostel. you must ring the Door Ring!
Review 96:everything is good!
Review 97:I booked 2 rooms and they only had 1 room. We had 3 people in 1 small room.
Review 98:I love the staff and the location. Marlene is very sweet. Scotty is very personable and I really enjoy seeing and speaking with him. I sure hope Ziggy the cat found his way back home to the hostel.
Review 99:nothing, really. The wi-fi was mostly functional, but sometimes had choppy interruptions.
Review 100:Helpful guides, magazines and books available for study. Approachable staff willing to help. Daily thorough cleaning ritual. Nice backyard, relaxed atmosphere. Location is nice: next door to taxi service [though short walk to cheaper route taxis and minibuses], close to markets and Weddy Weddy Wednesday's! Cool little cat lives there. Nice Guardsmen offering 24hr watch. They offered wi-fi throughout the property. Tip the staff well when you check out!
Review 101:Many people just stayed in the hostel all day smoking, kind of lame.
Review 102:Nice staff, cool bar. A bit off but probably the best hostel in Kingston anyway...

Review 105:The staff was very friendly and helpful! Breakfast was served on time and the rooms and bathrooms were generally clean!
Review 106:The only think I would say was maybe a bigger fridge.
Review 107:The staff here are AMAZING!! The hostel is close to walk to shops and taxis are next door! The layout of the hostel was done well, we had our own space or we could be as social as we liked. Great free BBQ and full bar facilities.

Review 115:The staff was friendly. the other guests were friendly and basically mind their own business. The accommodation was worth the money if you are travelling alone and just need somewhere to sleep and relax. The internet connection was reliable. I liked the hostel and would go back again as it is a very good concept.
Review 116:My first stay was in a private room, which initially I thought was alittle expensive at us$68 per night. However the king size bed whichwas unbelievably comfortable and the ensuite bathroom more than makeup for it.
Review 117:This hostal is well run by friendly efficient staff. There is a greatoutdoor bar and socialising area which is perfect to meet othertravellers. The free breakfast and internet access is much appreciated.I had the pleasure of dealing with the lovely girls sharon and Zana whogreeted me by name on arrival. Review 119:Great hostel in kington. Staff were extremely friendly and the place was clean. Heaps of space and great common area.
Review 120:The room had no night tables, and not a single decoration on walls. Some jamaican decoration and a mirror would be nice.
Review 121:The staff are really great, friendly and cheerfull. The place is very clean and secure. There is a cool bar on the back yard. They have a double room with private bathroom which is ideal for couples (this option is not common in Hostels). Excelent bed! I highly recomend it!
Review 122:location is a little hard to find. had to walk a while to find restaurants and shops.
Review 123:helpful staff, very laidback and social environment. feels safe & secure.
Review 124:Rooms very basic and although booked a private bathroom this wasn't available. Shared bathroom very clean though so no problem. Would def stay again.
