Reviews for Seljavellir Guesthouse

Review 1:Host was very friendly and very welcoming. Breakfast is included in the price which makes this place great value for money as you would pay ~€10 pp for breakfast in other nearby accommodations. Host made us the breakfast to suit our departure time, and breakfast was very substantial(cereal, bread, cheese, eggs, pancakes with maple syrup, Orange juice) Host also offered to turn of the lights off the building to make it easier to view the Nothern Lights.

Review 2:Not your usual guesthouse kitchen, you only really have access to the eating area. But just ask the hostess if you need anything, she'll be happy to help.

Review 3:Great staff! So attentive and helpful. Amazing breakfast, she made eggs and pancakes only when u walk in the kitchen so you get it hot. Room itself is spacious and clean, with a great bathroom and you have electric kettle for your coffee and tea.

Review 4:Great self contained room. There were about 20 rooms side by side and doubled up. The bed was comfortable, the shower was amazing and had everything you would want from a one night stay. The owner was wonderfully friendly and helpful. We would happily stay again.

Review 5:Couldn't fault it

Review 6:Superb accommodation - clean, modern, great location convenient to the ring road and the stunning Vestrahorn mountain. The staff were friendly and extremely welcoming.

Review 7:All perfect!!

Review 8:Everything was absolutely perfect! Beautiful room: clean, Really modern, Comfortable, in the middle of the nature, view on the mountains, what else!? The hostess was incredible: helpful, adorable, really hospitable. We had a perfect stay and will come back here without doubt. Special note for the wifi connection which was really fast!!!

Review 9:-Something outside nearby smelled heavily of rotting fish. -City of Hofn was completely shutdown by 8pm in the winter. Nowhere to eat. -Rooms open to the outdoors where its freezing.

Review 10:-We were two of four guests in the entire hotel that night. -Breakfast was awesome. The very nice hostess cooked us pancakes, fried eggs, and in general had a huge spread of food. I imagine when its busy season its even better. -Heated floors in the room! Nice bathroom, plenty of space and the most tv stations we had on our trip to Iceland.

Review 11:The rooms were large and beautiful. The floor and the entire bathroom were covered in stone. The breakfast was nice and included pancakes made on the spot. We could park the car right in front of the room :). Our room had a view towards the mountains.

Review 12:The only drawback was the lack of a hot tub.

Review 13:The staff was wonderful. They all really cared about the quality of our experience. Beautiful views and all together a fantastic stay.

Review 14:Location was good as felt like we were in the middle of nowhere so the perfect location for seeing the Northern Lights. We liked the unique style of accommodation, but you do feel exposed when you have the curtains open as everyone can see directly into your room!

Review 15:Unfortunately, our stay was a Sunday night in November when the only restaurant open within easy reach for an evening meal was an over-priced Lobster Restaurant with a very limited menus.

Review 16:Especially helpful and friendly staff, excellent breakfast and almost everything else except location on a Sunday night.

Review 17:Convenient location, clean and nice rooms, very friendly staff and one of the best breakfasts we have had in Iceland. A short drive from downtown Hofn, near the mountains. Thank you for your hospitality!

Review 18:very good and very nice staff, they are willing to help you and answer any questions. Rooms are clean and comfortable, we just enjoy the northern light in our rooms

Review 19:The view and we could walk out of our room to the outside. The manager came and knocked on our door to tell us to come out and see the Northern Lights!! Otherwise we would have missed it. We just walked out in our PJ's, coats and boots. It was fantastic

Review 20:It is a bit outside höfn but it was the best hotel with value for money we had in Iceland and the best breakfast.

Review 21:The staff was super friendly and helpful. Our room was nice and breakfast was very good.

Review 22:The views on both sides were great - mountains or glaciers. The room were very clean and modern. I wasn't expecting a lot but it was more than I thought it would be. Very comfy and I enjoyed the feel of the entire place. The free breakfast was a nice touch just because it was one less thing I needed to buy. Would definitely stay there again if I was in Hofn.

Review 23:A welcoming new hotel with a contemporary design, a good breakfast and friendly staff. The owner was extremely kind and welcoming, and helped us a lot during our stay. We decided to stay there for a second night.

Review 24:No complaints at all.

Review 25:The location was stunning, our room had a view towards the mountains. The room was cosy and clean and the people were very friendly.

Review 26:We booked 3 rooms, but during check in there were only 2 rooms left. One of our rooms have been given to another guest whom made a mistake while doing his booking.

Review 27:An amazing setting with mountains in view...a strange, long, modern, one level structure holds all the rooms m, reception and dining room. The rooms have nice pebble floors, nice shower and are very tidy. The breakfast area has great views which are not online for some reason. Nice breakfast selection with freshly made, sunnyside up eggs. It may not look like much from the road, but it's quite nice!

Review 28:Young man at check in desk was quite helpful to give directions in the dark and rainy night when we pulled off the road to call. He gave a recommendation for a nice restaurant in town just a few km away. Room was ultra tidy and comfortable. Floor heat system was effective (and not noisy like radiators). The view from the room was beautiful. Great value, at least in October. Will definitely stay again next time we come to Iceland.

Review 29:Not at all!

Review 30:Not too far from the nearest city- Hofn, just around 10mins' driving Nice room, nice breakfast, friendly staff and we even saw aurora during our stay!

Review 31:Location - just off the main road into Hofn (very easy to find even on a miserable, rainy evening). Staff - extremely friendly and very helpful. Rooms - very comfortable.

Review 32:The bathroom is of the wetroom variety, no shower curtain or door.

Review 33:Very clean and modern, right on the roadside but not noisy at all. Plenty of parking.

Review 34:lacked some finishing touches to make the rooms feel more homely. e.g.: Carpet, an unfinished painted wall. The road sign leading into the property could have been clearer. the Guesthouse is actually referred to as: Seljavellir Guesthouse 2. Seljavellir Guesthouse leads onto a farm.

Review 35:Clean rooms, good location.

Review 36:The walls are a little thin. We couldn't hear talking just moving around. The guests were all courteous though and it was very quiet after dark. I think most people are stopping through and want a good nights sleep before getting back on the road in the early morning.

Review 37:The staff are all very friendly and welcoming, the rooms are comfortable and have just what you need.

Review 38:Although isolated, it does not offer dining options. You must have a car to go to the city center to look for restaurants and other conveniences.

Review 39:Room very nice and clean. Nice bed.

Review 40:Nothing really to complain about! The restaurants in the area are a bit expensive for our taste, but we had budgeted for this on our trip. There is a grocery store in Hofn if you wanted to make sandwiches and soups (hot water with soup mix) in your room.

Review 41:Windows overlook the valley and mountains. I don't think I originally appreciated the beautiful location of this Guesthouse. It is more like a hotel than a Guesthouse, but the title probably doesn't matter. Free Wifi, easy parking, hard to miss on your drive to Hofn coming from the East. Breakfast is a buffet but tasty and well prepared. Easy drive to Hofn. We captured some of the most amazing photos driving at dusk between the Guesthouse and Hofn.

Review 42:The stylish floor has a pebble texture which may be a little uncomfortable to walk on bare feet.

Review 43:Friendly staff, the hotel seems to be very new, good wifi, modern and stylish room, quiet, good value, a short drive to the main town. The included breakfast is typically Icelandic but out of the many places we stayed in Iceland this was the only place that had fried eggs!

Review 44:While very functional, the room was not a cosy place. There was heat in the room, but the layout with the black stone floor and the large glass door gave the room a cold feeling. It felt like sleeping in a hallway or garage. Don't think I will stay there again.

Review 45:Very high-tech. Easy to find. Large comfy bed. Great shower/bathroom. Free wi-fi and TV. Breakfast okay.

Review 46:Room are new build but are rather small. Price is a bit on high side, but included excellent breakfast compensates this somewhat. Walls between rooms are a bit thin.

Review 47:Basic but new and clean. Excellent breakfast.

Review 48:The privacy is not great because anyone walking pass the room can look straight in unless you draw the curtains. Other than that, it was a great stay!

Review 49:The staff were welcoming and the breakfast (especially their pancakes) was great! Thanks to the staff who went round to inform guests that she'll be switchin off the lights, we managed to see the northen lights here.

Review 50:Owners were super friendly - fun having the cows right outside out back door! Breakfast was nice (a bonus having breakfast included) - they had wine and beer for sale in the lobby which was nice since we had missed the Vinbudin! Comfy beds - nice and quiet (we had a room in the back not facing the road - maybe that helped .....)

Review 51:Not in or really close to Höfn, but we knew that when we booked. If youwant to stay inside of town, this is not the place to be.

Review 52:Nice, new and fresh lodge. Having your own bathroom is a definite plusand not very common in Icelandic guest houses. Moreover the wificonnection was good. Breakfast was very good, lots of choice andeverything was refilled all the time by the kitchen staff. Location wasvery close to Höfn and the Glacier Lagoon of Jökulsarlon.

Review 53:everyting was great!

Review 54:extraordinary friendly staff. they were extremely flexible with our booking which helped us a lot for the future trip. everything brand new, extremely clean and nicely designed, spacious, and all in you need, good breakfast... nothing to complain at all!

Review 55:Lovely row of modern wood cabins. Great view through the full length windows of a lovely sunset over the glacier and mountains in the distance. Plenty of parking and easy to find, straight off the ring road. Great location for travelling to the glacial lagoon. Cabins were spacious, warm and nicely decorated. Bathroom was great, with a big shower. We even had BBC and Freeview on the TV in the room. Breakfast was included and was also good. Staff were very friendly and helpful at check in and check out. Overall I think the best place we stayed on our 11 days in Iceland.

Review 56:Room is modern with a functional design and very good beds. Bathroom looks very nice and has a spacious walk-in shower. Wifi is stable. Everything is spotlessly clean. Staff is friendly. Breakfast buffet has good choice of bread, cereal, eggs and freshly baked pancakes. Bonus: walk outside your room and enjoy the view of the glaciers in the distance

Review 57:Nothing.

Review 58:Very friendly staff, great breakfast, great views and easy to find. If you have a back-facing room you see the mountains and if you have a front-facing room you can see the glaciers. You may also have a curious but shy cow as you come out of your back-side room. Rooms are among the most modern we had in our 2-week stay.

Review 59:The place is simply amazing. Everything is new, beautiful and has a tasteful design. Best guesthouse breakfast we had in Iceland. Staff is super helpful and friendly. Every room has a great view. The floor of the rooms is made from tiny black stones from the beach!

Review 60:Breakfast quite basic, but similar to most places in Iceland. No shower curtain or walls, so you'll have to dry the floor of the bathroom after having a shower. The stuff which is on the floor in the room looks like difficult to clean (uneven surface). Now it's new, but after a while I guess it will become dirty.

Review 61:Brand new accommodation. Room lighting really nice, giving it much more appeal. We loved the cows which were just on the other side of the fence.

Review 62:Wonderfully minimalist/modern rooms right next to a farm and cows. Good views out the window. Everything works (including wifi) with no problems. Owner grew up on the farm and was friendly and welcoming. Off route 1. I liked the unusual black-pebbled floor, reminding me of the black lava. Not right in town but not far to drive, and it IS near a seapoint good for birds and views.

Review 63:none

Review 64:greeting was wonderful. fresh coffee was made and delicious cookies served. breakfast was excellent. very quiet. stay here. no need to go to Hofn which is a very short ride

Review 65:Very modern and extremely clean. Vala was great to deal with and clearly knew what she doing. Would choose this place again and again. Breakfast was very good. Beautiful location.

Review 66:Friendly staff, tremendous breakfast (including fried eggs), new facility! Grandson loved the stuffed lion in check-in area! Glaciers, cows and horses for views.

Review 67:We had a great stay here - Very clean and modern and just a good place to relax in after exploring the surrounding geological delights. There is ample space, good lighting and all that you need for a short time. Breakfast was the usual fare but included different types of breads and eggs. Would recommend staying here.

Review 68:Absolutely nothing.

Review 69:This accomadation is very nicely decorated. We had the feeling we were in a little boutique hotel in the middel of nowhere. Hoffn is however very closeby, you don't have to drive far to go out for dinner. The host was very friendly, such a sweet lady. We had a very enjoyable stay here.

Review 70:we had to ask the hotel to change the whole set of bedding, which were used with visible marks. but changed quickly with sincere apologies.

Review 71:good location, with larger room save and nice people

Review 72:Really friendly staff, helped us with planning our trips and offered to wake us if the Northern Lights would be visible. The rooms have a great view of the mountains and glaciers and the beds are really comfortable.

Review 73:Cleaning up the floor after a shower...maybe a shower curtain would help. Still no reception sign...it is at the back of the hotel not in the house on the property.

Review 74:Very modern room Wifi worked well. We enjoyed breakfast. Friendly staff.

Review 75:Not much to dislike apart from the fact that the owner assured us we definitely wouldn't see the Northern Lights one night so we went to bed and missed them when they appeared shortly afterwards which was very annoying!

Review 76:Great location in a beautiful spot just outside Hofn (but easy short drive into town), rooms were very simple but modern and clean and had all we needed. Great shower. Good choice at breakfast compared to other places we have stayed in Iceland.

Review 77:Really modern guesthouse just off route 1, only 5 minutes drive from Hofn. Comfortable room, good breakfast, good wifi and helpful staff. Good value for money.

Review 78:This facility appeared to be newly constructed. Our room was clean, quiet, and spacious with good wifi coverage. While the outside sidewalk was a little close to our room's window, pulling the curtains closed solved the problem of privacy. We had no problem with the partially/open shower concept as this is now used all over Iceland including the nicest hotels in Reykjavik. Just use the little squeegee mop provided and the floor dries very fast.

Review 79:Nothing, our stay couldn't have been better. Thank you Seljavellir guesthouse!

Review 80:Everything. The staff, particularly the owner, were fantastic. Friendly, informative, and a pleasure to talk to. The accommodation was perfect. Comfy, clean, not far from höfn and the shower was fantastic. Clean towels provided each day. The breakfast was typical Icelandic - hams, cheeses, breads, cucumber, skyr, pancakes - a big selection and extremely tasty. Would definitely stay again and hugely recommend!

Review 81:Perfect experience!

Review 82:This is a wonderful elegant gracious "hip" guesthouse. Beautifully designed and immaculate .. The couple who own the property are gracious ,kind and caring and they went out of their way to make our stay memorable!

Review 83:Would have liked to face the backside away from the road, but it wasn't a big deal.

Review 84:Beautiful views of the nearby glaciers. Close to Hopn and easy access from the Ring Road. Clean room, parked right next to it.

Review 85:Furnishings are cheap. Rooms have large windows, but people stroll by all the time to other rooms, so you either are in a zoo or you have to close the drapes and not enjoy the view. Expensive for the quality.

Review 86:It is new.

Review 87:We were the first guests of day, but we got room N:o 1. So all the other guests went through the open foreground of our room. There was no privacy. You must be behind the black curtains or sit behind the closed door in the toilet. Lady told that the restaurants are in the center. Lucky, we noticed opposite to the rustic restaurant, and so we got dinner conveniently.

Review 88:Clean, spacious, modern room and bathroom. Comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast

Review 89:The only little issue was that windows face the alley and there are only black curtains - so if you want privacy and light - there are no light curtains

Review 90:The location is very convenient close to Hofn and yet set in nature. The owner and staff are amazing - rooms are big and nicely decorated

Review 91:Very expensive in august. If you keep curtains off, everyone who is passing by to their own rooms can see inside. If you put curtains on, the room is very dark.

Review 92:Spacious room. Kettle for tea. Peaceful location in the countryside. Breakfast included. Wifi.

Review 93:Everything about it. Great room, shower, hosts and breakfast of fried eggs and great bread. The room is fantastic - modern and with an orientation that is very different from others. The entrance faces out and is top to bottom glass panel. The TV has all kinds of channels - local, BBC, U.S., Middle East.Great concept and great value for money. Highly recommended.

Review 94:Taken back by the asphalt floor (literally) in the main room, which was slightly on the small side...

Review 95:Stayed here only because of the convenience of location between Vik and our next lodging destination in Egilsstadir... Little to see in Hofn itself. Staff very nice. Good breakfast buffet. Place clean; beds comfortable; nice bathroom and shower... Room decoration very sparse....

Review 96:Beautiful, modern rooms with smooth, black pebble floors. Nice location with distant views of glacial tongues. Very pleasant owner and lovely breakfast. Owner provided excellent recommendation for dinner. Convenient to local glacier and glacial lagoon.

Review 97:Great rain shower but it wets most of the bathroom floor.

Review 98:Great spot for exploring the east coast. Room was quiet & comfortable with a great desk area for the laptops. Nice breakfast. Close to Hofn for restaurants & supermarket.

Review 99:The room was very clean, spacious, and modern. Everything was well-maintained. Clean bed linens and towels were provided. We checked in very late, but the hosts were very accommodating of this and were very friendly and helpful! We had very restful sleeps, comfortable and warm showers, and really enjoyed the lovely homemade breakfast in the morning. We would definitely stay here again!

Review 100:Breakfast had limited range - re-stocked except when pancakes ran out.

Review 101:Room was modern, large, well designed, good bathroom. Staff friendly. Wifi worked well

Review 102:The shower design could be improved so that it doesn't flood the entire room when used. There isn't much privacy if the curtains are open, as all of the rooms are full-length windows (which gives the great views), but other residents must walk past the room.

Review 103:Excellent location, clean and comfortable rooms (with a fun design to the bath towels!)

Review 104:Can't find the reception area, they don't have signage. I have to use my mobile international call to ask where the hell is the reception area. Then while in our room, people would come by to ask where the reception is. Note to the manager: Please do not assume that people will know where the reception is. Make a signage or email people where they can find you to check in.

Review 105:Good breakfast, along the ring road

Review 106:This hotel was fantastic, and it was our only hotel in Iceland that was comfortably large - including the bathroom. It was a great change after a week of cubbyhole sized bathrooms, that were so small you could barely turn around in them.

Review 107:Vanna (the guesthouse's manager/owner) truly knows how to welcome a weary traveler. We had driven through the night from Lake Myvatn and arrived at 5am - much later than we expected for our overnight stay. She let us stay past the noon check out time and had an early breakfast prepared for us and some other guests who had to leave early for the day. The room itself was comfortable with a simple, modern design. Bathroom/shower was huge. Beds extremely comfortable. The guesthouse was well located just a short drive outside Hofn (where you can eat amazing lobster!). Ideal for a stop for a night (or more!) if you're doing the drive on the ring road. Highly highly recommend. We only stayed for one night (or morning?) but wish we had time for more!

Review 108:Ask to stay in the rooms at the back of the property. We were at the front and the view wasn't as good. Didn't like the lack of privacy when the curtains were open. People walking by could see everything in the room.

Review 109:Nice modern rooms. Good breakfast.

Review 110:Friendly staff, rooms were simple but had everything needed (hairdryer, washcloths and blackout curtains-- which few guesthouses provide). Breakfast offered a variety of hot and cold foods; room looked out over farmland and was peaceful. The room was quiet, despite many guests. Staff referred us to an excellent restaurant in nearby Hofn (Pakkhuis). The guesthouse seemed quite new, and was clearly planned with the guests in mind.

Review 111:Anyone travelling in Iceland should take 'indoor' shoes/slippers with them anyway. You'll need them here as the bedroom floor is pebbles in composite and they can be very hard on bare feet. The room has a rail and 4 coat hangers - some hooks on the wall would be useful. It's fine if you're not unpacking your suitcases on an overnight stay. The wet room is very (very!) big but even so if you have a shower the whole floor gets wet so you then need something waterproof on your feet (or bare feet and a towel) if you want to use the toilet for the next few hours! Maybe they will provide squeegees soon? The sound insulation between rooms is not brilliant - and people may arrive (in their car) and unload at 3am!

Review 112:This is excellently placed for an overnight or two if you are touring. The staff are delightful and very attentive. They're also very kind in letting you eat your own food in the dining room in the evening. Breakfast is excellent - 'normal' continental plus fried eggs and waffles and fruit. There is a kettle and cups to make hot drinks in the room. The blackout curtains really work which is great in the light summer nights. You can get a car right to the door to unload and load up - but you may find it then trapped if people haven't used the car park sensibly!

Review 113:Nothing

Review 114:Modern, very new and very clean. Quiet location and close to town. Owners were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great, lots of fruit and fresh fried eggs and pancakes. Fabulous coffee. Large bathroom with wonderful shower. Windows to open for fresh air for good sleep.

Review 115:There's nothing we didn't like. The scenery, modern design, comfort and cleanliness of the accommodation fantastic. Fast wifi. Yes, it's not in the city centre but perfect location when on a road trip. Staff super friendly, willing to do everything to make our stay perfect. Out of the 8 hotels/guesthouses on our trip, this was by far the best. Strangely also the least expensive.

Review 116:No mirror in the room (only in the bathroom). They should think about putting a curtain for the shower, because the bathroom gets wet when showering.

Review 117:Good breakfast, comfy bed, TV with English channels, fairly close to Höfn (by car) , kettle in the room, good (open) WiFi.

Review 118:Nothing. This place is just great.

Review 119:Everything is perfect! This is the best stay during our trip (with$200/night budget). Close to Hofn, modern room, privatebathroom, nice stuff......I Will stay here again next time if I goto Iceland again.
