Reviews for Höfn Hostel
Review 1:I need to wait around half hour for staff to check-in, and I didnt like it
Review 2:Hostel was clean, free use of kitchen, and it was big enough hostel. Location also easy to find.
Review 3:The host seemed upset to come let us in when we arrived and we were quoted a different price than we were asked to pay.
Review 4:I liked that we were the only ones there that night! It was clean.
Review 5:When we had to pay amount was higher than shown on booking.com confirmation. We have raised the issue and the discrepancy in the amount was sorted.
Review 6:We met nice People in the hostel ;) big common space.
Review 7:There was no one in to check us in and they didn't arrive until 30 mins of ringing the buzzer and waiting, didn't have great (or any) atmosphere and was too expensive for what it was worth
Review 8:No wifi throughout hotel, but we were in basement under the lobby and happened to get a signal. It was too cloudy of a night to see ourselves but it's a great spot to find northern lights at nearby fields, etc. lots of mountain coverage driving distance
Review 9:Price together with linnen is VERY expensive for what you get. You just get a mediocre bed (not real good) and linens. The communual spaces are fairly cold (in winter) and very basic. For 1/3-1/2 of the price it would be a great deal; but the price breaks the whole thing.
Review 10:One of the few places to stay in/near Hofn in wintertime. It is really clean.
Review 11:Staff was not too friendly, room was cold when we arrived, there was no bedding even though we paid for it. The bunks were not very sturdy.
Review 12:Kitchen was spacious, enough room for several people to cook.
Review 13:Had to pay for linens & in peak summer, I don't think that there would be enough showers for everyone in the dorm.
Review 14:Comfy bed, very clean, it was quiet as off season so lots of space & no queue for showers. In our dorm we had a separate section with a closing door so we basically ended up with a private room for the two of us, which was great!
Review 15:Kitchen facilities were basic and very small compared to other hostels we have stayed in around the island
Review 16:Staff were very helpful, we arrived at 3 pm and were informed as it is quiet season we could not check in until 4 however I explained that I wasn't feeling well and the staff were happy to check us in early and provide extra blankets which was very nice of them!
Review 17:Kitchen was not very well equipped if you are traveling and staying in hostels, at least you expect some basics like oil and salt and pepper and pots and pans. all the pans were scraped down
Review 18:the room was nice and clean and comfy, plug-ins right next to the bed
Review 19:The staff member at the desk was very abrupt and I would say deceptive to the people in front of me in the line. I had a room near the fire exit which was really the smokers meeting point. Noisy and smokey. I thought it was expensive for what I got.
Review 20:It was a little pricier than others we had stayed in, but it did have a little more to offer.
Review 21:Large clean complex with a good WC/showers to rooms ratio, a large common room, well equipped kitchen, spacious dining room, and the option to use/rent their washer and dryer. Located in a quiet neighborhood not far from the city center. Parking was in front of the property.
Review 22:They didn't have my reservation even though I booked weeks in advance. They made us keep the door open and to top it off a girl puked in the corner of the room after she fell off of her bunk bed at 2 am. I wish I was making this up.
Review 23:Kind of pricey, but the most affordable around. Early check out, and you have to pay for linens if you didn't bring your own, the description did not mention this.
Review 24:Pretty clean, quiet, no hassle.
Review 25:Typical, old-style youth hostel. Kitchen should be cleaner and better equipped. Quite expensive for sleeping-bag-accomodation.
Review 26:One of the cheapest accomodations in Höfn. Wifi.
Review 27:The facilities are not that great even by hostel standards. I had problems with the shower I used. Too expensive for what I got.
Review 28:"Just OK" place in a small village. Only stayed one night
Review 29:Be very carefully, when you booked that hostel, because in payment will be higher price. They charged us more as was written on reservation. Their argue was that there was curreny change that day (although there was nothing simillar in all our trip in Iceland). After they said that we are not member of HI (it is not written on Booking, that you have to be!). Because of higher price, everything was disapointment for us, although there might be some good points (kitchen).
Review 30:Be careful! Don't pay too much! When we paid the bill in Icelandiccrowns we asked an employee if that amount was the same as theBooking.com amount in Euros. The employee said yes, but it turned outthat we had overpaid. When we confronted him with it, we were told astrange story. Because we did not have hi membership card, we had to pay10% extra on top of the bill. This was indicated in the Booking.comreservation... Which was not true. After much insistence, we got ourmoney back. Very annoying.
Review 31:We stayed in a very nice house around the corner of the hostel becausethe rooms in the hostel were fully booked. Clean large room, bathroomand kitchen.
Review 32:Warm water had problems. This was our most expensive night in our roadtrip and the least comfortable.but is it not easy to find a nught in the area
Review 33:The kitchen is large. The wifi is good
Review 34:The kitchen was well equipped but too small for amount of people. In fact only 4 people could be there at a moment.
Review 35:We had family room with private bathroom and it was good. The house is good .
Review 36:- the walls are very thin, better use ohropax - the beds are not that comfortable, but okay
Review 37:- the warden is super friendly and helpful - very well equipped kitchen - clean and tidy - easy to find (signs along the roads) - golf course behind the house is good for aurora hunting - nice atmosphere - felt like home because you had to take off your shoes
Review 38:Bed linen were not included, kitchen was a little dirty and bathroom too..
Review 39:A good place to stay 1 night (if you're a couple and without sleeping bag)
Review 40:All in all the place was ok. Its a very big hostel for iceland, but it feels like the hostel is not prepared for so many people. The kitchen was big, but very poorly equipped. It was also very noisy. And the biggest problem was, that there weren't enough showers or toilets. Every morning we had to wait for the shower, since there was only one bathroom in our corridor, that had both, shower and toilet inside. This was very annoying since it delayed our departure by almost 1h. But all in all the athmosphere was nice and the rooms were clean. It is a good place if you just need a bed for 1 or 2 nights.
Review 41:We booked a room in the hostel and were a little annoyed when we arrived and were told we were in a different building ... We went with the staff to the next street and went into this lovely house - absolutely delighted with the beautiful bathroom, kitchen. It was a little slice of heaven after 2 nights camping. Definitely great value though I can't comment on the actual hostel building itself
Review 42:We were three and booked a 4-bed-room with a non-shared bathroom. The standard was pretty poor according to the price we payed. One bunkbed, one double bed, somehow grubby. Extra fee for blanket cover and sheets.
Review 43:Shared kittchen was good. Clean and well equipped.
Review 44:The staff didn't have the idea what our booking include. They charged us for both bedsets even though this had already booked and paid. The quilts were not well stored and some of them were dirty.
Review 45:The first night the hot water didn't work. The lighting of the room is very poor, I read my book with my lantern. There is only one bathroom for eleven or twelve persons at the moment I stay there.
Review 46:This "hostel" ( they should be stripped of this name) charged$158 for a double bed with a share bathroom. To up their con, the roomhad no bedsheets and we had to pay $30 to rent bedsheets and a towel. Iget it..supply and demand; but the extent they are taking advantage oftravelers who are coming to Iceland is downright shameful and the worstpractice I've seen for accommodation. Worst accommodation experienceout of 40 countries I've been to on 5 continents! The only reason weplayed into their scheme was because everythibg else was booked.
Review 47:We were in the (new) annex building so it was clean
Review 48:Price is very high for the quality, we stayed in cheaper and better hostels in every other location. Quite crowded and a big noisy group one night we stayed. Beds clean and showers and kitchen reasonable.
Review 49:Good location to visit vatnajokull.
Review 50:Receptionist allocated a wrong room at first, we stayed there for the first few hours, 4 beds dormitory for 5 pax ca. 20m2, almost 300euros. After, we could change the room because other clients arrived for the dormitory. We needed to insist put an extra bed so many times and breakfast also, for we'd paid already. Only when I showed the confirmation as breakfast included, I could get the voucher for it. Breakfast was offered not in the same building, we had to move another guesthouse's canteen by car. Tariff/ quality does not suit.
Review 51:The only reason I choose this accommodation was they have laundry facilities. Cost: 1700ISK for wash and dry, all self-service, it seems expensive. Though it was written "bed-linen not included", it was included. Over luggaged. Our room with bathroom and kitchen were modern and clean, situated in the different building.
Review 52:In the room was not a table and chair.
Review 53:We had lucky to get a room in a separate house. This was right next to the golf course. Thus, a very nice location.
Review 54:Simple room, simple beds - as could be expected from a hostel. Dirty floor in the room and the kitchen. Shower/WC (pretty busy, one has to queue in peak time) lacked soap (1 liter empty container as well as overall condition of the bathroom suggested that it has not been visited by the staff for several days). Walls so thin that kids couldn't sleep because of slight snoring next door. All this for just a 200 eur/night - which excludes linen on beds (extra 9 eur/person) and excludes breakfast. Hofn deserves more competition in lodging.
Review 55:Hōfn is a small town, it seemed to be pretty booked out for June already in January. I was glad I could find something that could accomodate the family of five. Wifi worked.
Review 56:No service, and obnoxious groups. First night a group a French occupied the while kitchen. Second night too many lood Spanish people.
Review 57:Only budget option in Hofn.
Review 58:Folks we shared the house with were loud until midnight, but quieted down when we asked them to.
Review 59:We were placed in the new house affiliated with the hostel. Private bathroom, room with 4 beds for me, my husband and adult daughter. Very clean, good kitchen facilities. Can't speak to the facilities in the original hostel, as we were never there.
Review 60:Staff very cold, we were woke up early in the morning due to an alarm ringing regularly, no staff was here to stop it! Check out is early (10am).
Review 61:Good location but very impersonal, good for one stopover but not more, price is okay but bring your sleeping back to cut the cost.
Review 62:The bed was very uncomfortable and the staff that we had didn't even direct us towards our room.
Review 63:The cost was ideal especially because the restaurants anywhere are a minimum of 28 dollars. For a meal.
Review 64:Biggest disadvantage was that we had to pay for bed sheets and that cost us 5 pounds each. For that price we could have stayed in the beter place
Review 65:All in all, Hostel is OK. Clean rooms and good kitchen
Review 66:- an extra (a bit expensive) for bed linen (but you can save it by bring your own sleepingbag) -
Review 67:There are no many budget choice in Hofn or nearby. But this hostel has done it great job. It provides basic facilities, clean and spacious common area. Good wifi (and its free !) equipped kitchen I have nothing to complain about this hostel.
Review 68:Bedding involves a charge so bring sheets or a sleeping bag. The front desk staff is rarely there. We had to wait for them to check in and no one was there at checkout.
Review 69:It's a small hostel in a small town, it's mostly clean.
Review 70:There was no hot water when we wanted to take shower. I asked for them to heat it up, they told me to wait for about 1 hour. We waited and after 1h there was no hot water yet. The rooms were cold, and they don't provide bed linen, you have to pay for it.
Review 71:Good rooms and kitchens.
Review 72:Bed linen must be paid on top of booking price if you do not have your own linen or sleeping bag. This was not clear at the time of booking.
Review 73:Fair YHA hostel.
Review 74:Will not choose this hostel next time as all the guesthouse in Iceland is nicer than here.
Review 75:Same as other guest reviews, there is no one answer the door when we arrived and we have to use our own cell phone to call and wait for few minutes for the reception. Extra charge of the linen and blanket should be mentioned in advance. Other kitchen and bathroom are okay.
Review 76:The hostel was placed in such a hidden place and the price was so high because you should be pay for the bed linen and towels and the wifi was not working at all.
Review 77:Staff didn't know much about surroundings, short and curt and not very helpful in general. We didn't see it in any writing that we had to pay for a "sleeping bag" which was bed linen and covers, and they just shrugged and said, "it's a hostel. You should have a sleeping bag."
Review 78:Paid linen is a minus, but not terribly unreasonable. Internet required regular re-log on.
Review 79:Price was extremely reasonable for the area. This hostel had everything one would need, and was generally clean. Hofn is a fantastic location with lots to do nearby. The supermarket is very close!
Review 80:The room only had two normal electrical outlets, both above another person's bed. I had to charge my phone in a kitchen down th hall, leaving me with no alarm clock and no security for my electronics. Forget about charging other things too, like computers and camera batteries.
Review 81:Facilities are clean and reasonably comfortable
Review 82:Nothing
Review 83:The staff stop his car while I was trying to figure out how to get to the place by the road side , it was freezing cool. He also response to I request like how to get arround, where to hire a car...
Review 84:Wi-Fi can be a headache if you're trying to get it in your room. Best to go into the common areas.
Review 85:Honestly everything was good, it was just that nothing stood out beyond that.
Review 86:We paid extra for duvets but were given 'duvet covers' only. When we turned the heating down for sleep comfort the meagre duvet covers were totally inadequate and we all woke up in the night freezing. We had to cover ourselves with our coats. The breakfast(down the road in a guesthouse) was very poor and definitely not worth the money, I suggest you eat at a service station or supermarket. My advice is pay the extra and get a b & b or hotel.
Review 87:Not a bad location.
Review 88:There was nobody to checkin with so I (and others) waited a bit.
Review 89:I really enjoyed stayig here. Nice little town with good food, a grocery store, a couple of restaurants and nice swimming pool. The hostel itself is quite big. When I was there (end of October) it was still kindof busy. Which can be good or bad. I liked it but I can imagine some finding it a bit noisy. But hey its a hostel ;) All in all a great place to stop on your yourney through Iceland.
Review 90:There was no one at the desk when guests arrived, so there was a lot of confusion, crowding around the entrance, creating a bottleneck between the sleeping areas and the cooking/eating areas.
Review 91:An older facility but clean and comfortable. Close to lovely ocean-side walkway. Appreciated the wifi.
Review 92:In the beggining, I had a liddle problem, brcause I could not find the place, is literally in the middle of nowhere. I got some problems, because there was no one in the reception, but then I got a fone and call the owner. She came in one second, and after that, everything was perfect.
Review 93:The best part was that the cottages were in the middle of nowhere, a good place to relaxe, very dark, good to see the northen lights. Also verry confortable, with equiped kitchen, living room!
Review 94:We booked 2 nights, but then we suddenly had to go and they wouldn't give us a refund. Staff was not friendly Kitchen was not clean Beds were of low quality
Review 95:Hofn has limited possibilities
Review 96:Great kitchen, shared bathrooms, etc. It gave me a field trip feeling :) very good value for money, and nice place to stay
Review 97:During check in they used their own.exchange rate, charging.higher than advertised for beds and linen. It added up to 6 euro between two people for one night. They should really list the price of linen clearly in Is as well as euro so you can be the judge of what you are getting into. We resented paying 1600isk for linen for one night each. The door on our room only could be closed using a key from the outside. People struggled with it all night, forgetting keys etc. - Knocking on the door to get back in. Sleep was fleeting. Breakfast offer is expensive and looks unappealing.
Review 98:It was the cheapest thing we could find in town. Kitchen facilities upstairs and downstairs.
Review 99:We had to buy sheets and towels for 15 euros pP. they really capitalize on the summer season and charge too much. For that money you can get something better in Höfn.
Review 100:The location is convenient, close to the center (if you have a car) and from the new part which we stayed in there was a nice view. the new building is ok, the old one is really old and looks very used.
Review 101:Like many other places it's expensive when you compare to hostels elsewhere in the world.
Review 102:Very clean and quite. Our room was in a house a block away from the actual hostel, which was quite nice. And quite. Amazing views.
Review 103:It is a youth hostel. Breakfast is a disaster, family room is so small, a single room with a lot of bebs. Imposible to walk inside. Very expensive according with y hey offer.
Review 104:Good location
Review 105:- for that price usually we had breakfast included.
Review 106:We stayed in a different building one street further. There were 5 rooms, a really nice bathroom and a good kitchen. So it wasn't like a hostel it was like a guesthouse. Price for that guesthouse was ok - could be that the price for hostel is too expensive! We loved the view from our room: the golfcourse with the sea and the four glacier tongues coming down the montains!!!
Review 107:For US$300 per night, would have expected bath towels and complimentary continental breakfast
Review 108:A few nice restaurants in town and beautiful scenery nearby
Review 109:It smelled kind of bad in the room. Everything was pretty old and shabby. You could hear everything from outside the room.
Review 110:There was a roof over our heads and it was warm enough in the room.
Review 111:Breakfast and sheets are not included, the internet didn't work during stay (we were there for 2 nights). There are only 3 bathrooms for all hostel, so it's sometimes difficult to have a shower. Breakfast was quite poor.
Review 112:Stuff was kind, we payed two breakfast but had only one, they charged back money for one breakfast without any problem.
Review 113:There was discrepancy between the cost confirmed when booking on booking.com and what hostel's almost charged once we arrived (I believe genuine mistake, which was easily corrected after showing confirmation mail).
Review 114:It was unexpectedly confortable for being a hostel. We were placed in the new part, very fresh and spacious. Staff was very friendly and polite.
Review 115:Very expensive for what you get. Rooms did not smell Nice. You beter make your own breakfast because the offered breakfast is definately not worth the 11€...
Review 116:Clean, Nice shared bathroom
Review 117:It's a hostel in a little bit old fashion. You have to remove your shoes when you enter (even if the weather is dry and sunny and you just got off your car). Bed sheets are not included in the room price. The room we stayed in was in poor condidion, with a bare light-bulb instead of lamp and damaged electrical outlets close to the beds (that seems a little bit dangerous).
Review 118:The hostel is conveniently located close to the Road no. 1 and it can be a good place to stay if you plan to visit Jökulsárlón and Skaftafell. The hostel is full of people from different parts of the world and it's a good place for making new friends. Bathrooms are clean, hovewer simple.
Review 119:The kitchen refrigerator was leaking water, which unpleasant surprise when using the kitchen wearing indoor slippers.
Review 120:The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and bright, with great storage, comfortable beds and a TV and a sink to use. Th e common areas were clean, bright and comfortable with wi-fi available. There was no curfew.
Review 121:We stayed in a room with private bathroom. That unit and the overall house was great. Everything new and clean. Very good kitchen and shared dining area. I haven't stayed in the main building and don't have any insights on that.
Review 122:When arriving the wifi was not working!
Review 123:The Hostel was clean and situated in a calm neighborhood. The house though is noisy, but cooking facilities etc. are ok!
Review 124:Not enough outlits in the room! Only one for six beds is not enough...
Review 125:Kitchen and open space were great for evenings.
Review 126:Cheap nice place with a nice breakfast and a good location in Hofn.
Review 127:Took 20minutes for someone to come and check me in
Review 128:Good location, comfortable bed, okay kitchen
Review 129:Too big pillows.
Review 130:Worth for a budget hostel and one night.
Review 131:Nice cozy place to stay. Good facilities and clean. Staff were friendly and helpful
Review 132:For the price I paid to stay there one night I expected more from what I got.
Review 133:The receptionist was nice.
Review 134:Bit of a walk to town
Review 135:Really clean, spacious room, plenty of parking.
