Reviews for Hotel Castel Vecchio
Review 1:It would need some refurbishing, but it's not a problem. the only problem that annoyed noises from other rooms. it was possible to hear everything. first night we had noisy neighbours, so it wasn't possible to sleep
Review 2:Hotel is in a nice place, staff is helpful and friendly, breakfast good. We enjoyed our stay
Review 3:Rooms need a re-vamp to modernise them. Very old fashioned and tired. Such a big hotel over many levels. Real hike to the top floor & reception.
Review 4:Amazing views. Free parking. Winter price so very affordable - other than location, would be over priced for the quality. A bit of a "tired" lady.
Review 5:The bathroom was too small.
Review 6:Very helpful stuff and very kind. The hotel has a big parking and a beautiful lake view. The room was a bit small but very clean and comfortable. The restaurant is very good.
Review 7:The room we took was a bit dated but clean and convenient.
Review 8:A Little sweet hotel. Located at a perfect spot for us on our way south from Rome airport. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. the roof with the pool has a lovely view of the lake. A very nice breakfast too.
Review 9:Free WiFi was on and off
Review 10:Nice hotel for resting before flight after touring Italy Very nice views Walking to village center Very nice ambience at restaurant
Review 11:Breakfast was very poor for a 4 star hotel. The lack of variety and stale cake was neither appetizing or enjoyable. When I asked for some eggs, I was told no, it wasn't possible. Having travelled around for 3 weeks prior in hotels throughout Germany and Italy and the rating of the hotels being between a 2-3 star, the breakfasts were amazing by comparison, offering a variety of cheese, breads and meat. Boiled ham and cheese slices with only apples for fruit was very poor;(. An opinion shared by a few at breakfast time.
Review 12:Location, view and room were outstanding.
Review 13:It was first of all very noisy. During our whole stay there were parties outside and a lot of noise coming from the rooftop (our room was right under it), moving of furniture from early morning, Etc. The room was very old and the bathroom was tiny, the shower was so small I had to stand against the shower curtain the whole time. Very disapointing breakfast, no fresh fruit, just a few stale cakes and buns. Absolutely not more than a 2 star hotel, yet it has 4! Unbelievable v
Review 14:The stunning lake view.
Review 15:There were no plugs next to the bed and very few plugs for our phonesoverall. The pool and space was occupied by weddings the entire time wewere there which was very disappointing as it was hot and we werelooking forward to swimming.
Review 16:The location was lovely and convenient. The room was well appointed andhad a beautiful view.
Review 17:Heard some strange bangs during the night which we thought was the room across the way being set up.
Review 18:Excellent view looking over Lake Albano. Everything we wanted.
Review 19:- Breakfast tables dirty and not cleaned - No breakfast service - Funny smell in the staircase - Very small shower and mouldy shower head
Review 20:- Beautiful lake view - Modern rooms - Friendly reception staff - Quiet location - Roof top pool (but not open yet due to weather)
Review 21:Beware the address on the booking.com website is not reliable. As we were finally told (at the desk) the street has TWO names and may not work in your particular GPS, this frustration along with a (apparently) long standing closed road meant our arrival was traumatic to say the least. My advice is it is a great hotel but make sure you arrive in daylight and ring if your GPS is not getting you there. Good luck. John W.
Review 22:This is good quality hotel with value for money and a genuine *** rating 'however'. John W.
Review 23:The staff was very nice, very helpful, the food was very good. We had booked a economy room but when we got there they upgraded to a lake view one. They speeak english very well . The antique atmosphere blended very nicely with the surroundings.
Review 24:Would have been nice to have information in the room regarding the area and the history of the hotel and location. Needs a bit of TLC!
Review 25:Views, pool, terraces, location, proximity to Rome
Review 26:To be honest, this hotel did not meet up to my expectations. After having read the opinions of other guests up front, it seems experiences and/or expectations do vary.. Our room, though having a fantistic view over the lake was very small, but more important quite dirty. After having walked bare feet for a wile, my feet actually turned black! Next to that the bed was very old and uncomfortable (springs), and there was a LOT of noise from other guests due to very thin walls and no isolation. Would definately not stay here again!
Review 27:Great view and location
Review 28:This is a superbly situated hotel overlooking the lake in the beautiful Latin town of Castel Gandolfo. Though the rooms are not large, they are spotless and comfortable. The view was incredible, and the restaurant, with its outdoor terrace also overlooking the lake, was very good indeed. It's also great value.
Review 29:The outdoor pool was too dirty to use.
Review 30:Stayed for one night before returning home from Ciampino airport. Awesome views over Lago Albano. Very convenient location! A short stroll into town where there are lots of nice restaurants.
Review 31:Parking-on a slope. A bit tricky to get out of (but I got help!) Wish we had more time there to explore.
Review 32:The view! Breath-taking, peaceful, calm and restful. Restaurant food-very good quality. Rooftop pool-which my son had to himself. Beautifully decorated, stylish and tasteful. Staff all very helpful and friendly.
Review 33:breakfast had little choice. needs fruit and muesli.
Review 34:castel gondolfo is a wonderful place, stunning , peaceful and a beautiful lake to walk round, swim in, and partake in watersports. a very easy day trip from rome termini or go for a few days to chill.
Review 35:Almost everything! Pool has no steps into or out Very dangerous Indoor pool closed on whim of reception Breakfast deplorable No Concierge. No town map Given wrong information Shower tiny and bedroom small
Review 36:Location
Review 37:The hotel needs refurbishing. The elevator smelled bad and I had to struggle once with a huge rat at the back door. The rat acted like a pet and was sure that he should enter before me, however I didn't agree and fought him back. I'd expect such entertainment in a 2-star facility in Asia not in Europe.
Review 38:Excellent location with superb views. Probably a good restaurant as there were many diners, didn't try by myself considering the experience described below.
Review 39:Rooms a little dated
Review 40:Location, castel gandolfo picturesque
Review 41:I wish I stayed longer then two days!

Review 81:Old interior
Review 82:Nice breakfast, pretty pool and hotel, sweet city, friendly and English speaking staff
Review 83:Fantastic view over the lake. Friendly and serviceminded staff. Breafast OK
Review 84:Pool area needs attention where sun loungers are.
Review 85:Location beautiful. Food delicious. Cleanliness excellent. Staff very good service given.
Review 86:All of it would come again on next visit.
Review 87:The staff were miserable, unhelpfull and one person actually rude. The hotel was dated and had no welcoming feel or charm.
Review 88:A good location. Just outside Rome and 15-20 minutes from the airport. The views of the lake were lovely. The dining room looked sophisticated and classy.
Review 89:Room wasn't very clean, bathroom and room floor dirty, and shower tray badly stained.
Review 90:Great hotel and rooms with a lake view are fantastic with its our balcony room. Has its own swimming pool and free car park. Only half an hour drive from Rome city centre.
Review 91:rooms over-heated (winter-time); the hotel needs some re-vamping ; would have been nice to have an indoor pool to swim in not just to look at.
Review 92:very friendly staff, multi-lingual, service good, comfortable beds, plenty of pillows, good showers, very clean, georgious view, and plenty to see in surrounding area especially with car, picturesque village near by; the price was good
Review 93:Swimming pool was closed, restaurant menu and service were a little bit outstanding. Such a hotel should have NORMAL breakfast and one common menu for all the guests in their restaurant.
Review 94:Beatutiful views from the room and the restaurant. Wonderful atmosphere in the hotel.
Review 95:It needs serious updating. The breakfast was terrible - mould on the cheese triangles and stale. The swimming pool is ridiculous Everything looks old and tired and somewhat grubby. They should not charge for baby cots. Such a shame because the views are just perfect and it could be so magnificent.
Review 96:The location is incredible. Make sure you book lakeside view if you do decide to stay here.
Review 97:Hotel hadn't been cleaned properly for a long time, excessive dust and cobwebs in rooms and corridors. Door in corridor left open - had to dodge numerous crickets to get to our room. There was a moth in our bedroom. Swimming pool closed at 5pm - too early so unable to use it. No fruit in the breakfast buffet and we found the biscuit selection on sale in the local Carrefour so not homemade. The AC in the room was not turned on until we got there so the room was excessively hot (35 degrees plus) for alot of the time.
Review 98:View General decor Staff
Review 99:Our room was a bit smaller than we expected compared to our last stay, but the hotel is beautiful and the staff most friendly and courteous.
Review 100:Wonderful view of the lake.
Review 101:The hotel needs renovation. The lift from the parking to the receptionwas broken. When I asked the receptionist for assistance, he proposedthat I carry the bags myself. Which I did. The first room was notprepared. They gave us another room, looking out on a busy street. Therewas only one towel in the room. The bathroom was filthy, with haireverywhere. Another weird thing is how they hand you the remote to thetv and to the ac in the reception and you have to give it back when youleave. There are other, more discrete ways of making sure that the guestdidn't steal anything. Altogether, this wasn't a niceexperience. I would forgive the state of disrepair - I actually find oldhotels romantic - but the human side of it is the main negative. Chaosand lack of politeness. They made me feel unwelcome. Unfortunately, Isometimes find that as a booking.com guest, I'm being treated as asecond category person, because I paid less for a room.
Review 102:The hotel is beautifully situated on top of a hill overlooking the lake. The view itself is worth a million dollars. It has a rooftop pool and anice restaurant. There is a convenient and free car parking.
Review 103:having to pay for WiFi access
Review 104:the hotel is built on an amazing location, overlooking the lake; even the cars in the parking have a breath-taking view! from the entrance level there are three storeys above and one storey below; our room was on the storey below (below the parking, that is); it looks like the rooms on this level are carved in the rock; there was a verandah between the room proper and the balcony overlooking the lake; when we arrived at the hotel it had just stopped raining and there was incredibly intense rainbow at our feet! breakfast is good and the waiter was extremely kind!
Review 105:The hotel needs some refurbishment- you can see the ambition to be fancy, but unfortunately it is all in the past. The room is a bit small, the staff is a bit arrogant. Was OK for one night, but would not recommend for a longer stay.
Review 106:The views from the jotel terrace are stunning.
Review 107:thin walls so quite noisey if a lot of guests
Review 108:It was very nice. Unfortuantely we were there while a wedding padding was there so it was noisey, but everything else was lovely, especially the view over the lake. Perfect for weddings and romantic weekends
Review 109:cleaning personel and personel at the bar not always very experienced (some small guffs, like comming in without knocking in the afternoon and opening the door with their own key); breaksfast on the second day of our stay was quite meager - seemed like rests from the previous day
Review 110:overall a nice hotel - beautiful view on the lake; staff at the reception very friendly: good dinner offer
Review 111:A little far from the center (need a car in the evening, a little poor decore of the bathroom. Anyway, I reccomend that hotel.
Review 112:Very nice and helpfull stuff, clean, elevator, good breakfast, good value for money.
Review 113:fruit at breakfast would be nice
