Reviews for Errisbeg House B&B
Review 1:unfortunately B&B owner was away and we had to ring the housekeeper to let us in to the unoccupied premises.
Review 2:Nice quiet location, beautiful garden and lovely staff.
Review 3:This was the most expensive of the 4 places we stayed in Ireland, and also the worst breakfast. The breakfast was "okay", but nothing special. Just scrambled eggs, and toast. So for me the place would have received 5 stars if the price would have been 20 EUR cheaper, but for 92 EUR (stay + breakfast for 2) we had better experiences!
Review 4:Errisberg house is rather old, so it is not so easy to keep it spotless and warm. So we accepted the small cobwebs here and there, and also the fact that it was not very warm in the house (the blankets kept us nicely warm although). It's nicely located, and you can go up the Errisbeg mountain easily, and in the evening go to one of the local pubs in town.
Review 5:we had been camping in the awful rain for 4 days prior to the " treat " we had saved up for in Errisbeg house. we were so looking forward to a full cooked breakfast the next morning - but all that was on offer was a egg on toast, then the bread ran out and the poor American couple who came down to breakfast last- had to share a egg between them"! I had to go to my car to get our picnic bread as all Richards soda bread had run out!! then one one evening we were sitting in the lounge that is shown on your site and we were asked to leave as it was private. this place could be heaven on earth if it was not for the meaness of its owner. we would have re booked for the end of our holiday as it was so beautiful but we choose another b and b that did a breakfast. the sign for Errisbeg should say just B.
Review 6:we loved the place, our room overlooked the garden and the back of Erribeg mountain. it was soooo beautiful until our host had no food left for breakfast the next day!!
Review 7:The most wonderful place to be: great setting, huge room, stunning house and garden, best breakfast in Ireland and the most lovable landlord you can think of plus greatest dog in Ireland! Could take him with me for walks!
Review 8:The Wi Fi was poor and breakfast finished at 930am.
Review 9:Our host Richard was very helpful and very informative about the area. It was very close to the village of Roundstone. The house was full of character and history.
Review 10:Relaxed atmosphere, great hospitality, had a superb stay at errisbeg house Richard really made us feel so welcome, gentleman, just a walk from roundstone village & beautiful dogs bay, thank you so much, Dave & Catherine :)
Review 11:So tranquil & beautiful surroundings & location. Richard was delightful & Jasper the dog such fun. Was like stepping back in time staying in a beautiful country house in a natural woodland garden. Totally charming and would return.
Review 12:We had no negative experiences because we kept in mind that it is an older house with all its charms but also a few minor imperfections...
Review 13:Breakfast - Errisbeg house - Richard our friendly and caring host ...
Review 14:The house is very old with a lot of history and interesting features in contrast to the many run of the mill modern homes. Richard is also a very interesting and accommodating host.
Review 15:(Didn't bother us, but no TV / Radio in bedroom)
Review 16:- Location (short, scenic walk on country boreen to get to village of Roundstone in less than 10 mins - just perfect) - Beautiful country home, quirky and full of character - Lovely quiet location. Very clean. Beds very very comfy (Duchesses Room) - Shower / Bathroom was perfect - Our host Richard, very pleasant and extremely helpful - Nice healthy breakfast. Don't do Full Irish but can stroll into village for one if you wish. - Will definitely be back here, just what we wanted
Review 17:We loved the authentic heritage of this family home plainly visible from the antiques and paintings and the opportunity to see a side of life far removed from the ordinary. The gardens were idiosyncratic and enchanting. A short walk to Roundstone. Our host Richard would be at home in Downton Abbey.
Review 18:The house is beautiful, characterful & felt like our own home from where we could come & go. Richard's welcome & advice on local amenities was excellent. Having a coffee & a chat with him in his cosy kitchen is a feature in itself!
Review 19:The host Richard was very nice, very relaxed atmosphere, interesting furnishings and books, lovely gardens.Short walk down a quiet lane to the village yet it felt very rural.
Review 20:Lovely old house full of history, specifically related to the deStacpoole family. Richard the 7th Duke deStacpoole is a very friendly and hospitable host. Served lovely breakfasts with home-made bread, fresh fruit, cake, juices and jams. Even packed us up a load of his home-made fruit-cake for the drive home. Bedrooms and living room extremely comfortable and warm. Jasper, his labrador is ace!
Review 21:I'd love to visit in spring/ summer when it's warmer but overall it was lovely, bedroom nice and warm too.
Review 22:We stayed in the 'Duke's Room' from which we could see the sunrise in the morning, the house is interesting and close to the village of Roundstone. Lovely breakfast in the morning and Richard was very welcoming.
Review 23:Almost everything. Very welcoming and relaxing. Lovely setting, house full of history. Good breakfast served by host,Richard, a delightful gem in Connemara.
Review 24:Richard was friendly, interesting and trusting. We loved sitting and having tea with him! House is filled with loads of history and yet has modern bathrooms and comfortable beds. Kids loved running in the gardens and walking into town for dinner. We loved every minute of our visit - thank you Richard!!!
Review 25:Would prefer a proper, enclosed shower and tea-making tray in the room (for first thing in the morning). (That said, the host made tea for us when we wanted it and was most hospitable.)
Review 26:Genuinely unique set up with a host who does everything himself. The breakfasts were marvellous. Very friendly and peaceful. Close to village and beaches; 30 mins drive from Clifden. We may well return!
Review 27:The location is not so easy to find, the sign is a little bit to small, it coud be a very bit cleaner
Review 28:Richard is perfect gave me a wonerful route around the area, very friendly, had a lovely welcome in his house, you sleep in lovely decorated rooms, the breakfast is delicious, fresh fruits from the garden, richard did everything to make my stay perfect! it is a special place and not typical for an B&B!!!
Review 29:Liked it all.
Review 30:The host, Richard de Stacpoole, was a most kind, erudite and interesting person, and made us very welcome into what was his family's country home. It was full of family photos and momentoes, and the family tree which was most interesting. The garden, desined by his grandmother, was large, well cared for, and very interesting with many exotic plants and unusual landscaping. Richard is intimately involved in the local economy and culture and made sure that we were made aware of all the best that was on offer. The breakfast offered very interesting breads and home made jams and compotes, porridge, and eggs if you wished. The other guests were most interesting and varied in nationality.
Review 31:I really can't complain about anything, perhaps this is more pricey than some places but it felt worth it! Some people might be disgruntled by the bathrooms being across the corridor from the rooms... whether this bothers you or not...I guess is individual! In the same way as some people might feel hard done by the lack of a greasy fry, this is definitely an individual preference, which was not an issue for me!
Review 32:I absolutely loved this B&B- the owner is an older splendid English gentleman in the best way possible- a quirky sort of Basil Fawlty character but utterly hospitable; dashing about to provide for his guests yet relaxing us with background classical music and a friendly manner. And of course he spoke French, need I say more?! So if you are happy to forgo a greasy sausage for homegrown fruit, homemade bread and jam, delicious coffee, fresh eggs and even manuka honey.... then this is the place for you! The room was cute- the bed was super comfy, the decor was old fashioned in all the right kind of ways and the garden views delightful! His new pup frolicked about the garden, only adding to the friendly atmosphere.
Review 33:I was charged for two people even though I was a solo traveller
Review 34:Lovely gardens The easy attitude, more like a hotel, you could come and go as you pleased Very quiet and relaxing
Review 35:Richard the host is exceptionally welcoming, accommodating and affable. Nothing is too much for him. The house and gardens are lovely, full of character, charming and comfortable. Breakfast was fresh, tasty and beautifully presented. The location and countryside are lovely. Excellent and exceptional B&B. 5 Stars.
Review 36:To have to leave after two nights. I could have stayed on for a week
Review 37:A real treasure situated minutes from Roundstone by car with quiet laneway to walk back to village. Surrounded by unique Connemara garden. Gurteen beach only 5 minutes. Host was warm and welcoming and home produced juice and fruit at breakfast refreshing.
Review 38:Richard is charming and helpful. The area is spectacular.
Review 39:A thoroughly marvelous country house. Richard was the most delightful and helpful host EVER! The sumptuous breakfast was fit for a king and queen.

Review 60:Company of Richard and Jasper, relaxed atmosphere and general ambience.
Review 61:A very friendly and easy to talk to host, and an absolutely beautiful location! Different from all other B&B's around roundstone.
Review 62:Going home.
Review 63:house is beautiful, Owner very pleasant and could not do enough to make our stay special.
Review 64:No wardrobe in room
Review 65:Dining room fantastic. No residents lounge. Owner most helpful.
Review 66:Some reviewers complain of some bathrooms being external; some are but this is an early nineteenth century house & listed structure & I feel it should be accepted as such.
Review 67:Errisbeg is a charming property, far from the bungalow type of B & B often encountered. Excellent location, a few minutes walk into Roundstone village. It has masses of character. However, the experience was entirely made by our host, Richard Duc de Stacpoole. We were really made to feel like we were his personal guests in his country home. He is an exceptional host. We will definitely return.
Review 68:Interesting house and garden. We stayed in the kings room which had large windows and a nice view of surrounding area. It is a short walk to Roundstone which has (good restaurants) if you dont want to take the car. Richard was the perfect host.
Review 69:The loveliest host we have ever had whilst away either travelling or on holiday (and we've done a fair bit). Richard really made our stay incredibly memorable and that combined with an amazing house, great food and a perfect location means we'd recommend staying there to anyone. Roundstone itself is wonderful especially the near by beaches of Gurteen bay and Dogs bay. Absolutely wonderful. Go see for yourself.
Review 70:The location is sublime. Richard is a perfect host and welcomes you to his home as if you were his own personal guests. The garden is full of surprises - check out Richard's 'Gentlemen' (Indian runner ducks).
Review 71:It was March and we couldn't get the bathroom to warm up.
Review 72:The cosy sitting room and bedroom were great and the location and staff were fabulous. We loved the dogs and the hens and fowl wandering in the lovely grounds.
Review 73:The midges on the morning we left would have aye you alive
Review 74:Loved the owner Richard, very friendly and informative, sent is off for a hike up Errisbeg hill, had walking sticks and umbrellas to borrow. The history of both the house and the Stackpool family just added to the experience. Richard cooked breakfast each morning , fresh eggs from free-range fowl in the garden the whole experience was unique and a little quirky but here enjoyable roundstone is beautiful with great pubs and restaurants to eat in
Review 75:Internet is a bit dodgy sometimes - a very minor issue!
Review 76:Richard is a charming host and Errisbeg House really is his family history - all part of the experience. The Conemarre is a wonderful part of Ireland with stunning scenery and walking possibilities. We loved our stay
Review 77:This place is a gem in the Connemara countryside! The house and the host have a fascinating history. The breakfast was delicious with wonderful homegrown items such as free-range eggs, heather honey, a delicious plum juice. The house is lovely and true to the photos. The host said they can do weddings if you're interested. This was by far my favorite B&B in Ireland! I just wish I could have stayed longer and learned more about the place.
Review 78:It should be stressed that there are no cash withdrawal facilities in the small town. As there are no credit card facilities at the accomodation prospective guests will need to plan ahead.
Review 79:Richard, the owner was a delightful host. The room in his family home was very comfortable and welcoming. The house is in a very pretty area and there was lots to do. A car would be a definite advantage to staying there. The breakfast was very good.
Review 80:There was no sitting room although the house seemed quite large. There was no form of heating in the breakfast room which seemed to us very chilly! We were not able to pay with credit card after all.
Review 81:Interesting host and lovely old house.Delightful grounds and quiet position.Nice healthy breakfast.Comfortable bed and good bathroom with hand-held shower head.
Review 82:The Breakfast was good and wholesome but somewhat monotonous. Comfortable bedroom and warm with electric blanket on very cold w/e. Room NOT en-suite. [Not really clear on booking].
Review 83:We liked the friendly kindness and disposition of Richard de Stackpole who runs it. Kind and thoughtful and usually available.
Review 84:If you want to experience the unique charm of Ireland, then stay at Errisbeg House. It has no pretences, just genuine atmosphere, hospitality and comfort. A house and a host with character, and beds to ensure a good night's sleep. This is a place where visitors can truly appreciate the appeal of Connemara, its mountains, coastline, skies and, not least, its people.
Review 85:the damp in the bed room. the lack of lots of hot water. the cold of the main house
Review 86:the history of the family. the breakfasts were good. the setting was lovely
Review 87:Loved the location, only 1km to Roundstone and is very close to Dogs Bay and Gorteen Beach. Errisbeg House is so tranquil and peaceful, if you want to get away from it all. Richard is a great host and the breakfast is fresh from the garden and sourced locally.
Review 88:Richard was so friendly and welcoming. We didn't feel we were imposing at all ( which you sometimes do in B&Bs). He even dropped umbrellas to us when we were out for dinner and it started to rain
Review 89:Over priced. Breakfast at 9am earliest. No toast.
