Reviews for Nyibær Guesthouse
Review 1:Be aware two of the bedrooms are directly off the communal area so some noise can be experienced, although we found it quite interesting and comforting hearing snipets of travel tales whilst other residents made thier bed time drinks...
Review 2:As with every where we stayed in Iceland the hosts were extreemly friendly and helpfull, going out of thier way to provide information and travel advice. Spotless accommodation with a pleasant communal kitchen/dinning/lounge area. Arrive before the local supermarket closes as although a large (for Iceland) town, eating out opertunities are sparse.
Review 3:The sheets looked a little worn out and rough to the touch but otherwise clean. The bathrooms were tiny. I wish breakfast would have been available, even if extra.
Review 4:The owner was very nice, she found a crib for our infant in no time. Because of restaurants being closed for the holiday, she had bought some breakfast items for the guests to use.
Review 5:Nothing really! :)
Review 6:We really appreciated the kindness and flexibility of the owners; they actually saved our day since we arrived in the afternoon of January first (starving, since everything was closed on the way to Höfn since the afternoon before) and everything in town was also closed, even the gas station. They offered us a good warm meal which we really enjoyed in the common room. We also ate a good dinner there! The kitchen has everything you need to prepare your own meals and breakfast.
Review 7:The husband and wife were so accommodating. The husband is a chef and he prepared Christmas Eve dinner and breakfast for all of the guests since the restaurants had closed for the holidays. House decor was very warm and inviting. Little chocolates were left on the bedside table. Beds had proper blankets and pillows, and towels were provided. Amazing hostel.
Review 8:We had difficulty getting a hold of the staff once we arrived as they were not at the guesthouse (fairly common in Iceland). There was no system in place to reach the person and we didn't have access to cell phone capabilities to call the number listed on the door. Luckily, we were able to ask the restaurante next door to call the number. Other accommodations in Iceland seem to have a better electronic system in place for this issue.
Review 9:The place was very well kept! It had a great common area with fridge, microwave, kettle. The rooms were also perfectly size and comfortable.
Review 10:The double bed was actually two single beds with pretty bad matresses. The rest of the furniture was also rather basic with no wardrobe of any kind. The room opened directly on the breakfast room, which implied little privacy early in the morning. Overall it was OK, but not worth the price
Review 11:Helpful personnel
Review 12:- Awfully expensive considering the facility's condition (hostel style, small room, shared bathroom) - No socket in the room, had to unplug the only table lamp. - 0 soundproof wall, you hear everything your neighbor is doing
Review 13:- Nice friendly host - Free Wifi - Decent breakfast
Review 14:I felt that it was overpriced compared to other guest houses that were nicer. Although it includes breakfast, the breakfast did not justify the increased price. The rooms are also very close to the eating area so we were woken up early by other people eating breakfast.
Review 15:Good location close to the good restaurants in the town. Very friendly and nice owner.
Review 16:Everything. Dirty. Noisy. Uncomfortable beds. Way, way, waaaaay overpriced. Can't actually believe how much I paid to stay there. It's a bad hostel at premium hotel prices.
Review 17:Location was good if you want to visit Höfn.
Review 18:The room is too small and the walls are too thin. It seems you are sharing the room with the other guests.
Review 19:The room was clean, the staff was very nice and helpful.
Review 20:Really expensive for the service provided... Breakfast is very light compared to the other experiences in Iceland... Not really recommended at this price
Review 21:Staff is kind and location is great, but this is too low to deserve more than 6/10
Review 22:pitty that there are so few electrical outlet points to charge in the room - none! except for one if you take light out...
Review 23:very good explanation of local activities by owner, very clean and nice place to stay.
Review 24:shared bathrooms our room was beside the bathroom so you could hear all the noise of everyone going into and out of the bathroom only one toilet and one shower for all the people on the top floor rooms also attached to the breakfast dining room so if you stayed in those rooms, the people eating breakfast would wake you up
Review 25:My wife and I stayed here for one evening and found it to be a pleasant, comfortable stopover. Staff at the front desk were extremely friendly and helpful, offering some solid recommendations for meals and things to do in Höfn, even though we arrived later in the evening. Breakfast was delicious, too (especially the blueberry Skyr cake)! If I have a complaint (and it's not much of one), it's that our room opened directly on the common/dining area. If we'd wanted to sleep in, it would have been difficult with the noise from breakfast preparation and traffic.
Review 26:Friendly hosts, nice rooms, great location. The information center / museum and some good restaurants are about 100 meters down the street. The only downside is shared bathrooms.
Review 27:Shared bathroom looks not very appealing, more like a public toilet, however it's clean.
Review 28:Very good location - in the middle of the city, right next to the harbour and one of the best local seafood restaurants. Rooms are small but clean and the staff is very, very nice and helpful.
Review 29:It was more like a business than some other homes we stayed in, with an office at the entry. The check-in hours were late and limited. The bed and mattress were ok ikea options, but not deluxe, tiny pillows.
Review 30:The guesthouse was cozy and clean with a surprisingly large bathroom on the 2nd floor. It was right in the area of most restaurants and there was enough to do on the harbor to spend an afternoon. Lots of easy parking and we were only one day early for the lobster festival. Try the library cafe or the supermarket for the only affordable food in town. And Pakkhus for succulent lobster and the best desserts!
Review 31:No
Review 32:The boss is very nice and kind.My baggage is lost, the airline will be sent to the hotel, the boss is very eager to help.Help me a lot. The room is clean and warm.Breakfast variety and rich.
Review 33:Nothing, I thought it was perfect.
Review 34:Comfortable bed, delicious breakfast. Great location. Area known for lobsters, two of the best restaurants in Iceland next door, harbor just a stone's throw away.
Review 35:The room was really noisy and we could hear our neighbours talk untillate in the evening. The bathroom upstairs had to be shared betweenfour rooms and it was always busy which became really frustrating.Another bathroom with two shower rooms and two more toilets wasavailable downstairs. We only realised it in the morning when we askedthe owner as it looks like a laundry room and we were unsure we couldenter it at first.
Review 36:The owner was really friendly and helpful. The breakfast was nice withhome made waffles. Complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits were availableat all time which was lovely. The room was small but coming from Londonit was not a problem for us.
Review 37:Washrooms need to be updated, reception area was under construction.
Review 38:Views from the shorelines were amazing! Great food from the local eatery... a bit pricey but that's Iceland! Very nice common area and comfy beds.
Review 39:check in wasn't till 5pm, we arrived at 2pm. Not a lot to do in the afternoon, would have preferred earlier check in. No breakfast, no milk for tea. No one on sight if you had an issue.
Review 40:The guesthouse was under renovation and noisy. The kitchen was very small so we couldn't cook anything. It's important in Iceland and it bummed us out. Rather expensive for what it offers.
Review 41:Nice and clean rooms. Friendly owner.
Review 42:Hofn is a normal town and not particularly interesting. It makes for a decent stopover on the Ring road. The owner was not present to check us in during the afternoon, but came within 10 minutes after calling her.
Review 43:Comfortable, clean room with bathroom. The owner upgraded us to a room with a private bath. It was under construction, so there was no breakfast offered. There was a small kitchen area for guests to use and free self serve coffee.
Review 44:I had seen online that breakfast was an option with this room through other peoples reviews, although it looks like it is no longer an option now.
Review 45:The location is everything with this guesthouse. Worth the long drive from Reykjavik to get here. The guesthouse had a kitchen to make all your meals, as well as a tv and wifi. The rooms were very nice, although easy to hear the other people around the building. The owner was very kind in helping us call our car company across the country to help us with our flat tire. He even referred us to a company in town to help us get it fixed that very night!! Outstanding, and he went above and beyond.
Review 46:Cannot say that the staff was very warm....they do not have kitchen but just a microwave
Review 47:The restaurant next to the hostel, they have very tasty lobsters!!Must try
Review 48:We had a minor issue with the room and the owner was very helpful in resolving it. I would stay here again.
Review 49:This was a nice little place. The owner is a friendly helpful guy.
Review 50:-There was only 1 toilet for the shared bathroom, and 2 showers with the run-out liquid soap.
Review 51:-The lady owner was very helpful and lovely. Too bad we only stayed for a night. - The restaurant Humarhöfnin is just next door! -Excellent Wifi -Rooms with bathroom are very nice, spacious, and clean. Rooms with shared bathrooms looks like they are from a different guesthouse.
Review 52:The wall is too light to hear others voice. Toilet bowl on 2nd floor has a little bad smell.
Review 53:The location is close to a famous lobster restaurant in hofn.
Review 54:first floor smelled like smoke. our bed had a broken spring around the upper back area
Review 55:the owner, the restaurants in town, the harbor, the free gingerbread cookies and coffee :)
Review 56:Very nice guesthouse, great location in Hofn. We had the whole place to ourselves for the night, which was very peaceful. Big bathroom, nice size room, and very comfortable.
Review 57:Not include breakfast
Review 58:Landlord doesn't live in the house but he or she can show up in 3 minutes when u call them in doorbell. 70€ doesn't include breakfast makes the cost of money a little bit unworthy. However, the house is quite quiet, not as noisy as a youth hostel could be. By chance, u can enjoy a whole house with ur own friends or family.
Review 59:Compared to other places we stayed at, these shared bathrooms felt a bit too basic and lacked privacy.
Review 60:We had a great breakfast and the room was basic but comfortable
Review 61:The staff was super friendly, the facilities were great. They told us a great place to eat right down the street. They served an amazing breakfast the next day as well. Would stay here again hands down.
Review 62:A microwave for guests in the breakfast area would be useful.
Review 63:A friendly welcome, good advice on what to see and where to go, location on the harbour, good shared facilities, a good simple breakfast and chocolate in the room. A good place to spend a wet Icelandic weekend.
Review 64:nothing
Review 65:It located good place to find easily and close to nice restaurents and harbor. We were satisfied with everything(room, bathroom, breakfast...).
Review 66:it was very small with no cupboards. The place felt quite old and cramped. It was quite expensive for the quality.
Review 67:the location was great and no complaints on cleanliness. The one staff member we dealt with was the most friendly we came across in Iceland...
Review 68:sheets were so cheap that they were scratchy. for the price of the room seems that they could do better. The shared bath down the hall was not kept very clean.
Review 69:The location was perfect but the accommodations were more like a youth hostel than a hotel that cost us over $200.00 per night. Linens were like sand paper, breakfast ran out and the shared bath down the hall was unkempt. I would recommend looking around for something that has better value for the price.
Review 70:The room was very small: I'm used to small rooms, but this one was really really really small. It had the two beds and a chair. Stop. Maybe the other rooms were bigger and we were not lucky.
Review 71:The breakfast was very good, with a lot of choice and good products. The staff is very helpful, we arrived a little bit late but they arrived in a matter of time and suggested us a good place to have dinner. Both the room and the bathroom were very clean.
Review 72:The only minor detractor was the shared bathroom was a little cramped. Though they had two sinks, one was blocked by the staff washer / dryer.
Review 73:The location and staff were excellent. The breakfast was hearty and the room was quiet.
Review 74:Virtually paper thin walls therefore hard to sleep Small rooms
Review 75:Breakfast was brilliant Staff were very kind and friendly Fab location Plenty of showers
Review 76:Thin walls: noise gets in rooms easily. Stairs are narrow, small and circular--hard for luggage or a large person to navigate. Parking can be hard to come by at night, but we always found or improvised one space in the shared lot.
Review 77:Friendliest staff (by far) of all the places we stayed in Iceland, and very knowledgeable about things to see and do that are not necessarily in the tourist guides. Excellent restaurant recommendations (hint: not the one next door). Supplied us with several free guides and a few maps that were very helpful. Breakfast area was clean with continental-breakfast food that was expertly prepared (the husband is a chef). Family-run. Wi-fi speeds and reliability were good.
Review 78:Höfn is not the best location for younger travellers. There are also way too few restaurants and no bars. We really had problems in finding a free table and once ended up having dinner at the petrol station.
Review 79:Staff was friendly, breakfast good, the rooms clean - we enjoyed our stay.
Review 80:The price was higher concerning to shared bathroom. But I know accomodation in Iceland is all pricey.
Review 81:clean, good view, service I had to depart early in the morning and they provided some sandwiches for me, thankfully. the location is nice, near the seeside and other hotels, but it is not close to bus stop. If you have carrier, it could be bothersome, but I only had backpack so it was not problem.
Review 82:We shared one bathroom with 3 other rooms, which could be a bit muchsometimes. Especially because the room next to ours had 4 familymembers. Thankfully there were two more bathrooms on the 1st floor. Theguesthouse has no kitchen facilities. We felt that it wasn’t enough acoutlets in the rooms and had to share. Way too expensive though! 140euro for a tiny room with shared bathroom.
Review 83:When it was time to check in we went to the guesthouse and called theowner. He came down to the guesthouse in 2 min. We got a room on the 2ndfloor, which was with a nice view. Breakfast is included and it wasreally good! Many restaurants close to the guesthouse. Free wifi isincluded as well, which is always appreciated. Staff was really nice andhelped out a lot.
Review 84:Icelandic prices... even with all the upsides, nearly $300 Canadian per night is a bit of a shock.
Review 85:Very clean, nice decor, friendly host, our room comfortably slept two adults and two children, the breakfast that was included was lovely.
Review 86:Small room Basic furnishings Shared facilities Price (but in line with Iceland generally)
Review 87:Clean Friendly greeting Tasty and hearty breakfast Parking right outside
Review 88:Bathrooms and showers are shared - it's not a problem for single travelers or couples that are traveling on a budget, but for us as a family with kids it was a bit of a mismatch.
Review 89:It's a nice and clean guesthouse, close to local restaurants, with tasty breakfast and a very friendly host.
Review 90:When I was sleeping,I had been woken up several times due to the noise made by the upstairs.
Review 91:The room is pretty clean and I do love the breakfast. When I was going to leave, the manager gave me a gift made by himself, which extremely made me moving! Thanks for all the things!
Review 92:It was very expensive compared to other Guesthouses we used in Iceland, but that may be the area. The two restaurants were rather pricey too, but the quality was excellent.
Review 93:The warm welcome from the owner, including tea/coffee on arrival. The very excellent breakfast including Icelandic waffles and skyr. The room was roomy, beds comfortable, great location on the harbor near restaurants. An attractive place to stay. Good recommendations from the Host. Nice area to walk around great views into the fjord.
Review 94:One real bathroom shared among 8 bedrooms. Queue in the morning in front of the bathroom, preventing to respect any possible scheduling. The other showers and toilette (1) located in a sort of laundry room, similar to a gym center. The furniture in the room extremely basic, no wardrobe, only some hooks and just a TV trolley (without TV) to put personal stuff. The most disapponting lodgement in the tour.
Review 95:The breakfast with tasty waffels and a good choice of products
Review 96:The reception is open from 5-7 pm meaning that you cannot check inbefore 5 !!!!!!!! the bedroom had no view and was located next to thebreakfastroom (noise)/ the bathtowels were not changed the secondday and the beds were "sleepable" but that is about it.Thesecond day there was no soap in the bathroom anymore. No view whatsoever!!!!! Maybe we should not expect that much of a guesthouse (althoughthis one was a negative exeption during our whole trip) but with a priceof € 170 per night !!!! one expect more.
Review 97:Breakfast / but according to our other hotels/b&b' s itwas average
Review 98:A group of 4 women also staying in the guesthouse were talking (loudly) in the common area and doing their laundry (located next to our room) past midnight, preventing many from sleeping. We realize that this was the fault of rude inconsiderate guests and not the owner, but it impacted our stay. What the owners can improve is the following. The shared bathroom was completely flooded after some guests took showers, primarily because the shower floor leaked, and the shower curtain was insufficient. We had to put our hiking boots on to use the bathroom during the night. There was no soap anywhere in the guesthouse: an empty soap dispenser for hand soap by the bathroom sink, same in the shower, and no soap at the tea station/kitchen sink, where many guests rinsed their cups and placed them back on the shelf. The house itself needs maintenance, such as repair of cabinets partially falling off hinges, keyholes which need replacement, and shower repair to prevent leakage. Although the owner was friendly, he would not make a local call for us to a book a glacier tour. Rather, he suggested that we book through the information office down the street, where we were charged a 10% booking fee.
Review 99:The 4 bedded room that we stayed in (2 beds and a bunk bed) was fine, but was located next to the bathroom and near the kitchen. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. Very basic. Breakfast was good.
Review 100:Expensive (poor value for money) Room smelled bad Noisy (thin walls) To little bathrooms/restrooms for number of guests
Review 101:Host was friendly and helped us find restaurants Location is center of Hofn
Review 102:We had a bit of trouble finding it, as it was tucked away from the street. Our room entrance was directly off the dining room, so there was potential for it being too noisy, but it didn't work out badly for us.
Review 103:Friendly & informative staff, location right next to a great lobster restaurant, very close to scenic walking paths. Höfn is a nice town. Room small but comfortable.
Review 104:Extremely abusive price for a guesthouse of these characteristics. Two of the rooms faced the kitchen directly, so noise was very disturbing...couldn't rest until very late when everyone else went to sleep. Then had to wake up at 7:30 since that's when breakfast (and noise) begins. Room is very basic and bathroom is small. No TV. Breakfast is very basic.
Review 105:Shared bathroom facilities were cramped and not very pleasant, however there were enough for the number of people. Tiny room.
Review 106:Excellent host, very helpful and informative. We could use the breakfast area to read, access the internet, eat dinner. Comfy, but small room.
Review 107:In the internet there is not any advise to prevent in case we arrive late. We were there at 8 pm and we had to wait outside while raining. Relationship quality price is very poor. Restrooms are just ... No comments.
Review 108:Location
Review 109:Didn't like sharing a bathroom. But we knew going in that we would have to - it had just been awhile.
Review 110:When we showed up, I had just fallen and sprained my ankle. The innkeepers went out of their way to get me medical attention so the setback didn't ruin our vacation. Very helpful with details about their town. Loved the location next to best restaurant in town.
Review 111:Booked a room with sea or garden view, got a view of an outbuilding.
Review 112:The location was great and the breakfast was really delicious especially the waffles and skyr! Shared bathroom was really spacious.
Review 113:The entry to the room was directly from the dining room for what it was recuested the change, not being possible since apparently it was the only one with bathroom but they offered me a few stoppers for the ears., I must not be the first one who complains. Thankfully the following day we had to get up early, otherwise equally at 7:30 a.m. we had woken up that is when they begin the breakfasts. The bed needs to be changed so you fix the wharves of the mattress. Bad relation quality - price.
Review 114:Ubicada al lado del puerto, sin ruidos.
Review 115:Good location, nice staff
Review 116:There were no cooking facilities other than a microwave.
Review 117:It was a great location and good value
Review 118:Very helpful stuff, great value for the money!
Review 119:No TV or breakfast as stated on their sign.
Review 120:A nice quiet place to stay. We loved dining at the local harbor.
Review 121:Shared toilet
Review 122:Great bedroom and location, very friendly staff
Review 123:The staff were VERY friendly and they waited for us even late. The place was clean and very cozy.
Review 124:No real kitchen facility, ok for breakfast but not for dinner
Review 125:good size room. very friendly staff
Review 126:... but nobody at night : + door of the room locked without key = not clever = not that cheap. This is not a guesthouse.
Review 127:Kind people...
Review 128:150 € for a double room (with separate beds), shared bathroom and anonymous breakfast, it's simply a robbery for this place!
Review 129:Very few restaurants in Hofn so go early!
Review 130:Lovely location close to the water, lovely shore line walk in the evening.
Review 131:The breakfast was very basic. You can't check in before 5pm.
Review 132:The guesthouse is located right in the center of Hofn.
Review 133:Breakfast
Review 134:Friendly & helpful owners. Clean & comfortable guesthouse in quiet location nearby restaurants & the harbour.
