Reviews for Hotel Castel Gandolfo

Review 1:Small room ( knew it was small when we booked but a bit claustrophobic ) , bathroom and especially the shower certainly not to a 4 star standard , the tv wasn't working .

Review 2:Polite helpful staff, central position, nicely decorated hotel although the stair carpet needs changing. Pretty partial lake view from balcony. the hotel is fine ( particularly considering the price we paid ) but it's not a 4 star hotel

Review 3:It is not a 4 star hotel at all. It is a tiny guesthouse without any dining facilities. Price is too expensive.

Review 4:The view is exceptional. Hotel is very tidy. Breakfast is delicious.

Review 5:The location was fantastic, the rooms with a lake view are breathtaking.Rooms spotless and cleaned to very high standard.Breakfast excellent, hotel staff first class could not do enough for guests.I asked the hotel manager to book me a taxi to the train station, he took my wife and I in his car to the station six star service .

Review 6:my stay was not long enough!(3 nights)

Review 7:mountain/lake location with stunning views of the lake.15 miles from Rome.easy and cheap to travel into the Termni station in Rome.Heavenly retreat after the chaos of the city.staff really helpful and friendly.has some authentic Italian dinning places within the Castelo Gandolfi old village.

Review 8:The brochure claims the rooms are soundproofed - ours wasn't. Could even here the guy next door snoring! Parking is limited, but not too difficult if you are prepared to walk a little.

Review 9:Location, location, location. Decent breakfast, compact room, helpful staff. Amazing view of Lake Albano.

Review 10:The Hotel has a fabulous location right in the center of town and directly on Lake Albano. The staff was fabulous and were very kind in speaking English to us. The small apartment was VERY clean and nicely decorated. We loved the family photos on the walls and the 'rules' of the apartment establishing the care and love the family had and has for their home. The town has a lovely central square with shops and restaurants. The restaurants are excellent. The breakfast at the hotel was wonderful and we were so happy to have it before our trip. There was easy parking nearby which was free. We will return there. The hotel has great ambiance and charm. There is easy access to Rome on the train without all the hassle of driving in and dealing with the Rome traffic. We did not want to leave!

Review 11:On-street parking that had to be fed at 0800 every day. Quite difficult to find. Breakfast supplies were not kept up to speed or quantity.

Review 12:Helpful reception staff. Excellent location for trains to Rome. Colli Albani are amazingly fresher than Rome. Pleasant local restaurants.

Review 13:Sometimes the WIFI was a bit temperamental but who wants to be working on holiday? Other than that, just wonderful.

Review 14:Gorgeous location, beautiful views from superior lake view rooms (worth the price), kind helpful staff. Attached restaurant (separately owned) just great.

Review 15:Everything. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Superb location overlooking the lake and lots of coffee shops and restaurants around the corner, . At night the streets really came to life. A really beautiful place.

Review 16:No bad experience but parking s car is impossible near the hotel. Balconies are on the small side.

Review 17:The hotel is in a wonderful location at the highest point of upper Castel Gondolfo. Service is friendly to the extreme.

Review 18:Complete lack of wifi even after it had been restarted, TV was tiny and sky box wasn't working on the first night. Coffee was awful! Stick to making smaller cups of traditional Italian style coffee, it's why we are in Italy! Coffee and wifi probably worst two things...

Review 19:The view was outstanding, really worth getting a lake view. The breakfast was also really well made and varied. Service was very polite, rooms well cleaned.

Review 20:Room was hot at night the street is noisy till 1am, air con dont have cold air instead it releases hot air and there is a limitation on the control you cannot lower the temp too much(lowest around ~25 degrees), the room was a bit small and the lake view, you cant see the whole lake. The hair dryer doesnt work at all.

Review 21:The staff were helpful and friendly, Wifi was amazingly fast compared to others hotel in italy, buffet breakfast was great which we ate in our balcony,

Review 22:I would give two max three stars. Outdated interior, very small rooms (although the lake view very nice), empty minibar, dirt on walls, windows and furniture, TV cables fully exposed.

Review 23:Location, nice staff.

Review 24:Friendly family business. Amazing views to the Lake. Comfortable and clean room. Near to the train station. Near to other beautiful towns (Nemi/Rocca di Papa).

Review 25:The view from the room was breathtaking - fantastic location, excellent breakfast, kind and attentive staff. Federico actually stayed up most of the night waiting for me to return from a late wedding - he cheerily welcomed me back at 245am before closing up. They went above and beyond in terms of service. Would definitely stay again.

Review 26:Parking is non existent at the hotel, it was a long walk down a very steep hill to park the car.

Review 27:The hotel is in a great location and close to the main square and the Papal residence. The hotels staff was helpful and friendly from when we arrived to when we left. The lake view from our room was spectacular.

Review 52:Staff, Breakfast and accommodation wonderful. Lovely location for two/three day stay. Regular - and on time - trains into Rome.

Review 53:The breath taking view from The bedrooms, The silence of the nights and The cuteness of The town :all The ingredients for a heavenly recipe!!

Review 54:to small room for 4 star hotel no parking even for drop and pick up laguage

Review 55:view from the room many good restaurants around

Review 56:Everything was great

Review 57:Ambiance and the hospitality of the owner and staff.

Review 58:Difficult hotel to find. The room was a bit small.

Review 59:The service and staff were excellent. The view of Lake Albano are wonderful. Just a 45 minute train ride to central Rome.

Review 60:The view from our room over the lake was amazing. Parking is a bit tricky, but this is not the hotel's fault. We parked for free within a short walk.

Review 61:Nothing I could say against this family run hotel

Review 62:Form the time of arrival to leaving the staff and service was excellent and very friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable and clean....A good night sleep

Review 63:Friendly and helpful staff, excellent views of the lake in a lovely town. We visited in December and found plenty of resturants open and easy street parking.

Review 64:-small rooms, bathroom was tiny -blanket sheet had stains on the upper side which could have been cleaned

Review 65:-Staff is very friendly and helpful. -Location is good considering amount of space in Castel Gandolfo -Good base for wandering around Castelli Romani area -Amazing view of the lake

Review 66:Parking is a bit of a hassle, but that's because it's so centrally located. I found a space and enjoyed the walk!

Review 67:Very helpful staff. Beautiful lakeside views - the Pope has good taste!

Review 68:If you rent a car, difficult parking.

Review 69:Staff was very friendly and accommodating!! English spoken. A must to have lake view..beautiful. Rooms are small but very clean and comfortable.

Review 70:This hotel is the perfect place to stay. The family that run the hotel are very very helpful, if you need any information regarding trains, restaurants or places to visit, they go out of their way to help. Breakfast has a wide selection to suit everyones needs and tastes. I would definitely stay at Hotel Castel Gandolfo again. Highly recommend. Grazie mille Tatiana and Frederico

Review 71:Signposting was not good and we spent a long time locating it. You need to emphasise that it is in the hill top town not lakeside.

Review 72:Excellent location with wondeful views over Lake Albano. Good food on local restaurants. Very handy for both or Rome's airports (particularly Chiampino)

Review 73:We booked one of the more expensive rooms. It was smaller than wethought to the price.

Review 74:It is absolutely worth booking af room with a lake-view. Very nice andhelpfull staff. The restaurant under the hotel, was very, very good.Easy to reach Rome by car. Near the airport Ciampino, but we didn´t seea flight, and didn´t hear any noise. So absolute no problem.

Review 75:The staff was superb. Extremely helpful and friendly and eager to assist in any way possible. The facilities were very clean and comfortable. The location and view of the lake from the hotel were truly magnificent. I recommend it highly.

Review 76:Getting to the hotel by car can be tricky, since it is located withinnarrow streets of an old town center. Gps will lead you astray.

Review 77:The hotel location, within the old town center of Castle di Gandolfo wasfabulous. Our room was overlooking the lake and had beautiful views. There were great restaurants and bars right outside the hotel. The roomwas clean and comfortable and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

Review 78:Room very small, internet didn't work in the room. For the price I was expecting better but you are really paying for the location.

Review 79:Quiet room, good location right in the center, great view of lake and balcony (with lake view room). Staff always available and helpful. Once you figure out how to get to the hotel and staff explains where to park, the parking is pretty easy. We found free parking both days with no problem.

Review 80:Very handy to the Piazza, wonderful views over Lago Albano, close to the best restaurant in town directly underneath. The Staff were wonderful and friendly, and helped whenever asked.

Review 81:Hair dryer did not work and minor repair necessary on the closet.

Review 82:Family run business, very comfortable and friendly. Staff eager toplease in all aspects. A rural, small village on top of a hill withpossibilities of hiking to neighboring villages and to the lake.

Review 83:There was nothing but good things to say this small hotel,,We loved it,,a great escape from Rome.

Review 84:Everything,,great view of the lake,,great friendly and helpful staff, great breakfast, small,,,close to the castle,,++++++++

Review 85:reaching by car is difficult, parking also.

Review 86:Location is excellent, in center of Castel Gandolfo with view to Lake Albano, wiht nice restaurants nearby. Good rooms (single room is very small), nice service.

Review 87:Superb location. Friendly helpful staff. Comfortable and well equipped. No car park, not even a space to unload the car. But, we were warned; and what can you expect in the centre of a historic village, just metres away from the Pope's summer residence? Public parking is some distance away.

Review 88:Superb location. Friendly helpful staff. Comfortable and well equipped.

Review 89:The view to the lake was fantastic. Personel very, very friendly. Nice room, though small and good mattress. We enjoyed taking the sun on the small balcony which could hold 2 chairs. Train is cheap (2,1€ ticket), and only 40 min to Rome, but unexpected strike prevented the trip to Rome. Need to be able to walk up and down. Excellent restaurant next to the hotel. Arte e Vino is a treasure.

Review 90:There was nothing to add, it was just perfect

Review 91:We were made so welcome at this hotel, it was clean and the location was beautiful the breakfast was lovely, I would definitely be coming back.

Review 92:As with many hotels, parking was a challenge.

Review 93:The breakfast was the best continental breakfast we had on this trip. The bath tub in the superior room was a delight.

Review 94:Parking is not available and the hotel is hard to get to. Fortunately, this was not a problem for us because we had family providing transportation for us.

Review 95:This is a very quaint setting with a nice view of the lake and close to the Papal Square. The room was small, but comfortable. Breakfast was very good.

Review 96:We liked everything about Hotel Castel Gandolfo! From the moment wewalked in the door we were amazed at how warm the welcome was. It wasdefinitely the best we got while in Italy! Andrea and his family werevery pleasant and went out of their way to help us with even thesmallest thing, as did the rest of the staff. We were shown to our room, from where we had a breathtaking view of Lake Albano. We spent hoursjust watching the view change as the sun moved around the horizon. Evenat night the view was spectacular. The continental breakfast at HotelCastel Gandolfo was also very good. With a selection of breakfastcereals, fresh breads and pastries, cold meats, locally produced cheesesand jams. We really were spoiled for choice. While the hotel doesn'thave it's own restaurant their are many to choose from within 30 secondswalk from the front door of the hotel. We absolutely enjoyed our stay atHotel Castel Gandolfo and can't do it enough justice in words alone. Wewill defiantly be returning to our favourite Italian Hotel!!!

Review 97:Wonderful service. I confirm, small rooms. Great for short trips.Surrounding beauty. I would recommend rooms with views of thelake/necessarliy. I recommend trips to the seaside to Sabaudia far 76km.To resum up super, super beautiful place plesant hotel. MMMDabrowscy

Review 98:A well run hotel that is very close to Rome but is situated in a lovely hill-top town that is the Pope's summer residence and which overlooks a beautiful lake. The young couple that run the hotel speak good English and really take a great interest in their visitors. The town is certainly worth a day or two and is within 30 minutes of central Rome but, particularly in summer, is a cooler climate than the main city. The rooms are small but well appointed and they generally have a good view of the lake and the surrounding countryside. Overall, a nice place to stay.

Review 99:The service and friendliness of the staff is unparalleled in ourexperience of hotels across the world. Their advice on all thingslocally was invaluable and the staff in the office went out of their wayto help us with the personal difficulties that arose during our stay.

Review 100:The staff were so friendly and welcoming! Couldn't have been nicer. The room was very clean and well appointed, with a beautiful view of the lake. Breakfast was delicious. We would definately return.

Review 101:Be prepared for a couple of 100 meters to walk (upwards!) to car park. It’s hard to walk since I was ill (not the Hotels fault!), but car parking nearby would have been more convenient.

Review 102:A nice little hotel in an historical house with central location. Our tiny rum was very clean and had a nice little balcony with stunning view over Lake Albano. The atmosphere was private and the family that runs the hotel made us feel at home immediately.

Review 103:We enjoyed our night here- it was the end of a driving holiday aroundsouthern Italy. Castel Gandolfo is tiny, but this hotel is in the heartof it, close to the Papal Palace: it's basically a charming small family-run hotel. The seond generation owners couldn't have been nicer or morehelpful; they gave us an excellent dinner recommendation; and our roomoverlooked the lake. Breakfast was typical Italian and did the jobperfectly.

Review 104:Nothing at all that I did not like about the hotel, but to get to it from the airport I would not recommend taking the bus but the local train instead, shuttlebus from airport to Chimpiano train station and then direct train to Castle Gandolfa, the train journey last about 30minutes, 40 minutes from Castle Gandolfa to Rome main train station Termini, the train fares are very cheap less than £2 per trip and they leave aprx. every hour.It does involve some walking (going up the steps from the lake to the hotel) so if you have problems walking it is probably better to arrive in a car.

Review 105:It was a very beautiful location, quiet and relaxing after sightseeing in Rome, the staff was very friendly and helpfull. The Hotel was like a 5 star hotel with luxury/comfortable beds and classic enterior, very clean. The buffet breakfast was very good with the best crossaints I have ever tasted.

Review 106:No complaint about the hotel but you should be aware that the surrounding area is very hilly and steep, I would not recommend this area for anyone who has any difficulty walking.

Review 107:Excellent friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. We were given an room upgade without asking. Beautiful views over looking the lake from small balconey. Very comfortable beds and superb bathroom facilities.

Review 108:Not very much choice at breakfast. Very difficult to find the hotel after dark

Review 109:Very warm welcome from owners. Very pleasant one night stay. Made excellent recommendation for a nearby restaurant

Review 110:This hotel is perfectly situated in Castel Gandolfo, the one of CastelliRomani's most famous mediaval towns. Romans, sometimes being tired ofthe sea, often prefer the Castelli lakes - Nemi and especially Albano -for they leisure trips, especially considering it's just a 40-50 minutesride on car/regional train. That is why Nemi and Albano regions are verypopular among locals, both at summer and winter. It's been my secondtime in Castelli Romani and this is a truly breathtaking and mysticplace. It's not easy to find a decent 4 star in that area, but CastelGandolfo Hotel met my expectations in general. The room with the lakeview was good, the only problem we've encountered was the absence ofheating (because the heating system malfunctioned that day), but thestaff (great people btw!) gave us the portable heater, so it was ok. Oh,and the breakfast is simply marvelous. All in all, I'd recommend thisplace for a little break from Roman rush.

Review 111:I had a gps but it was still hard to get to because of blocked and oneway streets.

Review 112:The staff spoke excellent English. We had made a reservation for a 3person room but the gave us 2 seperate rooms instead at no extra cost. That worked out great. The hotel felt like it had been recentlyrenovated. Good bathroom. Smaller room the I expected but it was fine.Because of the location I had no idea where to park but the staff parkedit for me with no cost and had it waiting at the door when I was readyto leave. Great little town.

Review 113:The room was slightly warm. I was glad we could open the door to our balcony which we left open all night

Review 114:Location - our room overlooked the lake

Review 115:small room. small shower/bathroom. noisy hall, hard to drive to front of hotel.

Review 116:view of the lake from the balcony of our room

Review 117:very friendly staff, perfect for a romantic getaway. Rooms overlooking the lake have a stunning view.

Review 118:Staff were excelllent Location was amazing

Review 119:Parking difficulties

Review 120:Good location in the center
