Reviews for Guesthouse Dyngja
Review 1:Not a single thing.
Review 2:We loved absolutely everything about our experience at Guesthouse Dyngja! The house was beautifully decorated with attention to every tiny detail. The beds were extraordinarily comfortable...I usually have trouble sleeping through the night, and I slept for 12 uninterrupted hours at Guesthouse Dyngja. The home was very cozy, clean, and neatly kept, and it was in a very quiet, peacful location. We also very much enjoyed lounging in the common area listening to records. Fanney and Sindri, the owners, also had a beautiful, delicious breakfast stocked for us the following morning. We traveled in November, so the weather caused us to change course a few times during our trip. Fanney took great care in emailing us daily while we were in Iceland to make certain we were safe and traveled wisely. Because of her guidance, we were able to see all of the sites we most wanted to see, we made it to our ice caving trip with Einar and the awesome folks at Local Guides, and we finally made it to Guesthouse Dyngja on the only day weather permitted travel through that part of the country. The funny thing was that on the way there, I realized I had never even looked at their website - I had only read about the guesthouse in Lonely Planet and on Booking.com - but I just knew I HAD to make it here to Fanney and Sindri's place. The minute we walked through the front door at Guesthouse Dyngja, I knew exactly way. It was a perfect and wonderful experience, and we will be back someday! I cannot recommend this guesthouse more highly.
Review 3:We stayed in Iceland for two weeks, stayed in 6 places and this was our favourite place! The host was very friendly and informative. The house is very clean inside. There is something very tranquil about the house and its location in hofn.
Review 4:Guesthouse Dyngja has a splendid location in Hofn. It is across the street form the harbor and less than a minutes walk from two really excellent upscale restaraunts. And, its just another minute to the tourist information center. Often individual rooms are rented to travelers; there are five bedrooms. However, we were traveling in the shoulder season with another couple and rented the entire house - which provided entirely grand accommodation, A very nice range of breakfast offerings were provided as part of the rental price.
Review 5:There were a lot of rooms/guests for only 2 bathrooms (exacerbated by the fact that one guest was in the bathroom for over half an hour).
Review 6:Really charming, homey space, outfitted with board games, a record player, books and lots of tea! Great location — in walking distance to fine restaurants and the port. Breakfast was very tasty! The host was accommodating when we arrived after posted check-in time.
Review 7:The shower pressure on second floor was weak. The door to the porch can not be locked.
Review 8:It feels like home away from home. The black plastic record player is really nice. The water front view is fabulous at sun setting.
Review 9:No lamp by my side of the bed. Coming in from outside watch out for the very small single steps--perfect to trip on
Review 10:Very friendly. Breakfast was waiting in fridge. Easy parking. Very remote-small town charm.
Review 11:To check in after 20.00 we had to warn in advance and than to wait for some time in the cold for the lady too come
Review 12:Nice and cosy place Board games and gramophone records Good location at the sea
Review 13:The bed was very soft which I found uncomfortable. Fine for most I'm sure. Also a bit expensive but its Iceland!
Review 14:Great location on the harbour, walking distance to restaurants and easy parking. The basement large room with private bathroom is like a little apartment, breakfast was plentiful and check-in and out was easy.
Review 15:The room was comfortable and the common area was pleasant. I liked the record player and vinyl collection! The breakfast was truly outstanding. Staff was very friendly.
Review 16:Friendly and courteous hosts, capacity to spread out and have a " home feel" , several great restaurants within metres, nice town walks, easy access to main attractions on the South Coast
Review 17:Like all places in Iceland. Tourists arrive late and there is no sound proofing; i.e. Thin walls.
Review 18:Amazingly organized (each room had a self serve tray and single bottled juice with french pressed coffee). Wonderful view of the bay. Nice kitchen to cook in for dinner. Walking distance from all restaurants. Pick the Mt View room upstairs. Also manages a Glacier Hike company that is less touristy and more private.
Review 19:Everyhing is perfect at this Guesthouse. Comfortable clean big rooms, great place (right near the harbour), very nice owners, tasty breakfast, a lot of space inside the house, wifi.
Review 20:two bathrooms for 10 people stay is a bit tough but manageble.
Review 21:The guesthouse is very cute and cozy. It has very homy decoration and located in perfect location, near by the habour and nice restuarants.
Review 22:A little pricy. No on premise laundry.
Review 23:Great location. Short walk from a supermarket and from restaurants. Great for larger groups. We had 8ppl and were very comfortable.
Review 24:Great house located right by the harbour and within a stones throw (literally) of three excellent restaurants and the very good Hofn information centre. Excellent breakfasts and a warm welcome from the owners. Large tern colony right across the harbour.
Review 25:Very tiny room with shared bathroom at 120 euros is expensive even for Icelandic standards. Low water pressure in the shower.
Review 26:Nice decoration of the whole guesthouse, clean bathroom, excellent breakfast. Fully equiped kitchen, blackout curtains in the room.
Review 27:Nothing
Review 28:Clean and comfortable. Owner is very friendly, he even brought us on a hike up a local glacier. This was that best place that we stayed in a trip around Iceland.
Review 29:No (limited) contact with hosts
Review 30:Very welcoming and well furnished Spotless Excellent kitchen facilities Spacious for dining and breakfasting Every effort to make you feel 'at home'
Review 31:One of our favorite stays in Iceland. The setting on the harbor is perfect with excellent views from the kitchen and dining area. Quaint with a retro vibe (we enjoyed the record player). The breakfast trays were wonderful. I wish we had planned to stay in Hofn another day! Not to mention, our hosts were personable, helpful, and very accommodating. Including the effort they put in to the return of a forgotten item.
Review 32:There was noise coming out of a nearby restaurant until about 1 AM. Also shower in the first floor was broken.
Review 33:The place was really nice and clean. Breakfat could be better but since it's inculded in the price it was OK.
Review 34:We liked the property a lot. The only complaint we had was that the water pressure in the shower upstairs was minimal. Also, thought it was a little expensive for the location.
Review 35:The location was great! The bedrooms were very comfortable. Staff was very nice and helpful.
Review 36:The bed was a little squeaky, but more comfortable than most
Review 37:We had the private apartment on the ground floor, plenty of breakfast provided, amazing recommendations for touring the next day to out of the way places where we were alone in nature
Review 38:The owner was very friendly and welcoming when we arrived. He showed us around and explained everything we needed to know and gave us a good tip where to have dinner. The room was small but very cozy and cute and the bed was very comfortable. The shared bathroom was very clean and the self catering breakfast offered everything we needed. Would definitely stay here again!
Review 39:The gutters leaked, drip drip drip drip drip all night long. The walls are paper thin, so you'll get to hear the other guests breathing. The shower drain is clogged and overflows, and the wifi doesn't work.
Review 40:The restaurant across the street is very good.
Review 41:Great location in Hofn, restaurant right across the street was amazing, hospitality was second to none, great amenities (wifi, great breakfast, big lounge area). Would highly recommend to anyone going through East Iceland!
Review 42:Nothing!
Review 43:The location is right on the port and the sitting room and kitchen faced the ocean. The rooms were smaller but adequate size and very clean. The beds were very comfortable!
Review 44:The bed is too soft and and the room light is too dim in the private bathroom suite. But the shared bathroom floor is very nice.
Review 45:The staff is extremely helpful and nice. The location is good which beside the sea and opposite to the lobster restaurant.
Review 46:The wifi is a but weak and hard to connect
Review 47:Everything is great!! The house is just opposite to the lobster restaurant, very easy to find. A supermarket is nearby too. The owner is very nice to us. He made us feel like going home. Nice room and nice breakfast!
Review 48:Very friendly chap let us in showed us round and recommended the langoustine restaurant over the road for dinner which we would also highly recommend. Beautiful room with a living area where we played Neil Young on the record player while drinking tea.
Review 49:- Shower on 2nd floor was running quite slow
Review 50:- Opposite good restaurant - Nice self-prepare breakfast - Host is very friendly and helpful - Nice View
Review 51:The wifi was out in the evening, and seemed to just need to be reset. No one called the offsite managers, but it was reset in the morning. Otherwise everything else was wonderful!
Review 52:-great tips from the lady (owner?) who checked us in -very cute house, great central location -met some other great travelers -very comfortable bed -free off street parking, easy to find -great breakfast -wonderful old record player We would definitely recommend staying here!
Review 53:A raging blizzard outside showed what a wonderful refuge this was. Cleanliness and breakfast were outstanding. The owner is friendly and helpful and showed us how to navigate the road and weather condition Internet sites. This enabled us to plan our difficult trip ahead.
Review 54:Really enjoyed stay at characterful, interesting and clean guesthouse! In a really good location - in a small town by the port and close to everything. Internet good - and works in rooms. Lots of additional stuff including a cool Vinyl Player with some great records. Friendly owners - with great advice on what to do, driving conditions, etc. Good pre-prepared breakfast with plenty of tasty food. Would be a good base to drive up East for the day
Review 55:The radiator didn't work so well for a large room like that.
Review 56:The guesthouse has a 'home' atmosphere and the guy who welcomed us made us feel warm and touched.
Review 57:Nothing I can pinpoint to.
Review 58:The guest house felt like home with a unique character in each room and a fabulous view of the harbour from the dining area. Full use of the kitchen should anyone want to cook their own meal or have a late cup of tea. The guesthouse is located across from a famous seafood restaurant and a short walk to the grocery store. Everything was clean and to our satisfaction.
Review 59:good location with private parking fully equipped kitchen with harbour view clean & comfortable rooms lovely breakfast great common area with games & records a pleasant stay
Review 60:The wifi went out on several occasions. Luckily, a housekeeper was there when we needed it reset, but it sounds like this is a common problem and sometimes isn't so easily fixed.
Review 61:We loved the location of this guesthouse and the great lobby with games and records. Our host was available to check us in within minutes, and breakfast was wonderful. Parking was convenient as well.
Review 62:I wasn't a fan of the fact that we had to share a bathroom with other guests, but that's just a feature of guesthouses in general.
Review 63:The guesthouse is located right near the restaurants you'd want to eat at in Hofn.
Review 64:Door rattled all night long and people in next room were noisy. Some self-serve breakfast items were hard to find. Shared bathroom competition was heavy in morning.
Review 65:Good location.
Review 66:Very home from home with communal kitchen, dining room (harbour views) and sitting room (with record player & excellent taste in records!) that encourages people to chat. Bedroom and shared bathroom facilities clean and adequate. Self service breakfast. Extremely friendly and informative owner who meets & greets with great enthusiasm. highly recommended.
Review 67:- Walls are not that thick, so you hear people/noise through from time to time
Review 68:- Friendly, approachable owner - Great personal recommendations for the area around - Comfortable rooms and inviting design, loved the records - Self-service breakfast makes it straightforward - Good restaurants are very close - Easy parking
Review 69:Everything was perfect! Nothing dislike me
Review 70:Shared rooms were really good! Living room with turntable and lot of good records. COnfortable and complete kitchen.
Review 71:there was no spare toilet paper and the bathroom ran out sometime in the middle of the night. not a big deal as there was a second bathroom downstairs.
Review 72:self service breakfast and the breakfast tray; house was very cozy with a nicely decorated living room, spacious kitchen. we arrived slightly after check-in hours but was still able to check-in efficiently by ringing the call bell. the gentleman who checked us in was very nice and showed us around the house. our room had a lovely view of the water.
Review 73:We could hear the people above us moving around (we stayed on the bottom floor), but it wasn't too bad.
Review 74:Cute place, wonderful owner, great simple breakfast, plus everything was clean. It felt like a home!
Review 75:Water pressure and wifi were weak.
Review 76:Very nice hosts, comfortable, and well informed of the area. Best langoustine restaurant just across the street! Again, the most pleasant hosts we had in Iceland.
Review 77:There was no staff on hand; the absentee owner was not available. We were on our own so when the circuit breaker tripped in the kitchen and electricity was lost, there was no way to finish preparing breakfast as there was no access to the circuit breaker box. It was only much later when I realized there was a call box outside by the front door but there was no sign indoors that said where and who to call for emergencies.
Review 78:Location was excellent and easy to find; room was nice; good view of harbor and restaurants were close by. Breakfast was fine but not much variety of cereals and bread.
Review 79:Owner was very friendly and helpful with local knowledge. We rented the whole house and they gave us food for breakfast and extras. Great location on the harbour and lovely little town.
Review 80:Right against the famous langoustine restaurant. Nicely decorated with nostalgic icelandic style. The owner wasn't there when we check in, but could be reached via the "phone-doorbell".
