Reviews for Hotel Höfn

Review 1:The Elevator was broke during our stay, we had to climb a lot of stairs to get to the room.

Review 2:Modern, spacious, clean rooms. Great views from the top floor. Really nice food. Friendly Staff

Review 3:Not much choice at breakfast, would have liked something hot other than toast. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room.

Review 4:Small but comfortable room, good location when exploring the East of Iceland

Review 5:Couldn't get the shower to work - but may have been just us! Quilt only just fitted the bed, but staff happy to provide an extra pillow No lift but staff did offer to carry the cases

Review 6:Excellent food - dinner and breakfast

Review 7:No lift (but staff help)

Review 8:Staff very friendly and helpful helped with luggage up stairs clean decent sized room good in house restaurant good base for glacier trips

Review 9:The room was very very small (just enough space to move around the bed), and the bathroom was so small that you can hardly move in it (and had no heating in it, plus the door was closing automatically so we couldn't keep it open to benefit from the heating in the bedroom). Wifi signal was quite weak in our bedroom. Quite disappointed given the price we paid. Regarding breakfast, there was lot of choice for savory breakfast but very limited choice for sweet stuff. Staff (especially people working at the restaurant of the hotel) looked very young and inexperienced. The hotel per se is nice, but given size of the rooms and personnel, we were quite disappointed given the price we paid (maybe given the price we just had high expectations)

Review 10:The location: the hotel is on the seaside with a very nice view from the terrace. The room was clean and nicely decorated

Review 11:Long walk from hotel to restaurants/pubs. Also, I made a mistake with my booking and accidentally booked the week before my visit. It was completely my fault, but the hotel management was unwilling to refund the first charge. So I paid twice for a single night.

Review 12:Nice Hotel

Review 13:The room is very small and the bathroom is tiny. The price is high. It's more expensive than some 5 stars hotels in Europe. The hotel doesn't have a lift.

Review 14:Good location with nice view from the hotel.

Review 15:The dinner in the hotel restaurant. For icelandic tastes.

Review 16:We slept in the rooms of the other building and they were clean and comfortable. The TV set was working well with many channels in english!

Review 17:No elevator!! Staff helped us with luggage to 3rd floor without a problem.

Review 18:Beautiful location with ocean and distant glacier views. Staff very helpful. Very nice breakfast buffet with good variety. Lovely small scenic town with many restaurant options. Great easy walking trail along shore.

Review 19:Clean. Helpful staff. Service at restaurant/bar was very good. It's not luxury travel but you knew that when you booked it. A solid choice for the Ring Road traveler.

Review 20:Room a little small, but with all you need for a night stay. Our booking reservation said to call if we would arrive later than 6pm, but we found out that there was staff until much later (9pm) and we really did not need to worry.

Review 21:Lovely location, very clean and comfortable. Very nice restaurant at the hotel. We could not enjoy breakfast as we had to leave early, but hotel staff was kind enough to give me one coffee to go.

Review 22:The bath was too small and really not functional at all. The shower had no tray and the water was all over the floor after having a shower (curtains too short). The basin was incredibly tiny and you would hit your head with the self above when washing your face.

Review 23:The room was fine, not big. The room design was correct but impersonal just as a business hotel. The bed was really comfortable. The breakfast was excellent.

Review 24:Most guestrooms are in student-residence-style blocks across the road from the main building. The rooms themselves are comfortable enough and pleasantly furnished, if small, but we missed using facilities such as the hotel's smart lounge and terrace, which we only spotted as we were checking out. The breakfast room was rather crowded. Our tip: go between 9 and 10 a.m., after the coach parties have left.

Review 25:The hotel has a great location on the fjord, and we were lucky enough to have a fjord view from our room. The staff were very friendly and professional. As we arrived quite late, we ate in the hotel's restaurant rather than go to one of the recommended places near the harbour. The langoustine dishes we chose were delicious, and we can't imagine they would have been better anywhere else.

Review 26:No elevator Staff are realy dont nice I booked double room with 1 bed. I got 2 single beds -room for childrens The only hotel ever that charge me before my ariving ( i couldnt change the credit card i gave ehen i reserved from the web) Breakfast - no watter - was only ice i have to wait till it become water. Buffet what was empty Was empty

Review 27:The view.

Review 28:Too expensive: the doors close so lightly that it ended up in a lot of door-slamming of neigbors as of the early ours which woke us up all the time. Walls between rooms are so thin that we even heard neigbors plug in and out in wall sockets late at night and early in the morning! They should definitely do something about this for this price.

Review 29:The room was really bright with a good window. Room temperature excellent (how do they do that?)

Review 30:For what you got it was quite expensive. Felt like paying for business class but staying in economy. It is a fine hotel but with no extra facilities, high season prices were very high for what you would get elsewhere.

Review 31:Ideally located in Hofn this place was clean, comfortable and has a lovely restaurant attached.

Review 32:Staff seamed to be happy that we had to carry our luggage on the third floor ourselves (no lift). Like most hotels we know you can hear everything your neighbour does...

Review 33:Breakfast was really good for Iceland.

Review 34:A poorly ventilated room and bathroom with basic facilities. Not located in main hotel building. Could hear noise from other rooms.

Review 35:Location is good

Review 36:If you stay more nigths, the room wouldn't be cleaned. They made only the bed. Dinner was a Desaster. So it is better to go outside for Dinner. Otherwise you waste your Money. Hotel is to extensiv.

Review 37:Nothing

Review 38:I loved the views from the hotel, it's located by the water so you get great views. Staff was very helpful. Room and bathroom were really clean. The breakfast buffet was Amazing!!!

Review 39:Compared to other hotels in Island the staff has been distant and impersonal (it seems that the hotel employ students or temporary staff which only do their job....). The atmosphere in the restaurant has been cold and unpersonal, the meals rather loveless and the staff also unprofessional. The main course has been cold but after our complaint it has been heated. The hotel hasn't an elevator - travellers with big and heavy cases should know this....

Review 40:The room was quite ok, small but clean and in good condition.

Review 41:Everything was just as advertised and our check in was quick and simple. Room was comfortable, modern and clean with a view of the harbour and glacier (as requested).

Review 42:Hotel and Restaurant closed for two of our three days due to annual staff outing. Wish we had been told before we arrived. Very small room in outbuilding. Expensive for what we received.

Review 43:Friendly staff. Best Pizza I have ever eaten on first night in restaurant...Restaurant closed for net two nights

Review 44:Room I was in was under decoration but they did refund me. For the money the rooms are a bit basic.

Review 45:Convenient for town and provides a great restaurant bearing in mind the size of the town. Hotel offers one of the only bars. I prefer to stay here and have the option to stay in or go out

Review 46:The only thing I can think of is that the hotel is more expensive than the ones I usually book - but the service and comfort level matched the price tag.

Review 47:Super helpful and friendly staff, comfortable beds with fluffy duvets, excellent cleanliness and genuinely fast wifi broadband. The hotel restaurant serves delicious food at prices that are, if not great by continental standards, at least no higher than prices in Icelandic restaurants tend to be. Breakfast buffet was varied. The hotel also offers an aurora wakeup service, where guests can be woken by phone if auroras appear. (In theory: I set my alarm clock & went out and saw auroras - not sure whether the phone in my room rang after I went out, so I can't vouch for whether this works or not)

Review 48:No elevator but hotel do offer to help with the luggages

Review 49:Nice and quiet during the winter Can just walk outside the hotel to view the Northern light with nice backdrop of the mountains Plenty of parking in front of the hotel Breakfast was good with cold cuts and waffle

Review 50:But they are no elevator.

Review 51:The location is perfect. And the staff is very kind. When I open the door, there's some problems in the room. The pendant lighting is doesn't work and the connecting door between the other room is unlocked. But it was settled on the spot.

Review 52:Room smelled a bit odd, pillows were horrible, shower space too small with curtains that stick to your back and don't keep water from spilling at the rest of the tiny bathroom.

Review 53:Nice staff, good location, free parking, bathroom was very clean, outlet to charge phones by each bed.

Review 54:We liked everything about this hotel. Delicious food in the dining room. Asked the staff to call us if the Northern Lights appeared, which they did and we saw a beautiful show!

Review 55:Was not happy that when I tried to book a twin room on Booking.com it said that none were available so I booked 2 singles and when I got there found that both rooms had twin beds but could not cancel one so I effectively had to pay double.

Review 56:Restaurant food was excellent.

Review 57:We enjoyed every part of our stay here.

Review 58:The location was perfect for a very short walk along the shoreline to restaurants and the bus stop. The sunset and views were incredible over the glacier tongues visible from the hotel. The beds were comfy, the wifi was great and the breakfast was awesome in the morning.

Review 59:There is no elevator at the hotel. Although the staff suggested to help, it's not very convinient

Review 60:The hotel itself is very nice, the town is beautiful

Review 61:Tiny hotel room for what is a normal price in Iceland. No elevator despite couple flights of step to room.

Review 62:Energetic staff eagerly volunteering to carry our bags as we started up the flights of steps to our room, since there is no elevator. Excellent breakfast constantly refreshed by the staff. Amazingly efficient design of the tiniest hotel room we've ever stayed in.

Review 63:Expensive accommodation (more than EUR 250/night for a double room). No lift to reach rooms located on the first floor.

Review 64:Conveniently located close to the centre of the village (walking distance from restaurants and bars). If you cross the road and walk in the public garden you can enjoy the sunset, the lagoon and the glacier view.

Review 65:The staff in the restaurant didn't seem to want to be there and the service was quite slow.

Review 66:Good location. Lovely coastal walk right outside the hotel. The restaurant served good food.

Review 67:I stayed with my familly at this hotel for 3 nights. First, I have to say the rooms were way over priced, The room quality was poor! We payed a whoping price of 1848 euro for 2 rooms, 3 nights . It was our most expensive stay at the whole duration of our trip (We stayed at 9 hotels during our vacation). I do not recommend Staying at this hotel.

Review 68:Comfy beds.

Review 69:The rooms were a bit small.

Review 70:Food, staff helped us with the booking, the location is great, and the rooms are comfortable (but a bit small). WIFI worked okay.

Review 71:1. The bathroom was very dangerous. My mother-in-law slipped over there and she had to be sent to the hospital. 2. The facility inside the room was inadequate. There was no paper or pen, no kettle, only two small cups in the bathroom. 3. Our rooms located in the second floor of one of their buildings and it was tough for us to move our luggage to the room.

Review 72:Since the town is small, the location is quite good. The breakfast is acceptable.

Review 73:It was all great.

Review 74:They responded quickly to email inquiry, the place is very nice- especially for the price. Most hotels in Iceland are very overpriced for what they offer, but the Hotel Hofn was a very good deal and a wonderful stay. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and they even went to extra mile to make them look nice which is not universal in Iceland.

Review 75:Lobby, restaurant and dining room are disappointing in design, backlogof renovation. The room does not have the expected quality. Especiallythe bathroom was poorly cleaned, mold in the shower, oldest hairdryer...The suspended ceiling is ok for an office, not a hotel room. The doorsand wooden furnitures are old and shabby. The curtains and cupboards smell unpleasant. The breakfast was poor in the selection, the coffee and water dispenser were dirty, plastic foil covers the buffet tables... All in all, no complaints at a room rate of 90-100 EUR, but not 300 EUR! Not even in Iceland.

Review 76:The location of the hotel is beautiful within short walking distance tothe harbour. The facade of the hotel is renovated. The areas around thehotel are nice and clean.

Review 77:Very good hotel with friendly helpful staff. Excellent room in annex. Good breakfast. Plenty of parking. Spectacular views to glaciers in the distance, particularly at sunset.

Review 78:We were in building 5. The walls were so thin we could literally hear the person in the next room snore for several hours. Given premium price I expected higher quality.

Review 79:Location

Review 80:The bathroom smelled terribly. The room is very small.

Review 81:The staff was great and attentive. The restaurant was very good. And the location outside is just stunning.

Review 82:The housekeeping opened the door to our room at 8am to start cleaning. We were still sleeping and they just left the door wide open. We awoke an hour later with our door wide open for anyone to walk in. Also, they double charged my credit card. I've emailed them to have it resolved and they haven't responded yet.

Review 83:zero

Review 84:nice location, good fairly priced restaurant, very good breakfast, nice decente rooms, comfortable, nice view in most of them, overlooking the distant glaciers. Whereabouts very agreeable, ncie walking paths all around.

Review 85:The price in Summer is horrendous

Review 86:You are perfectly located for trips to Jökulsarlon or Glacier Walks Very good restaurants around Very clean and comfortable rooms Awesome breakfast Try the hot pots in Hoffell - just 20 minutes south of Höfn

Review 87:Room smelled old and musty---coming from mildew shower curtain which needs to be laundered! Pillows need changing. Very pricey for old room

Review 88:Above average breakfast but had to leave before I could enjoy it to catch a 7:30 am bus

Review 89:Bathroom needs updating. Dining room is dated as well. Location, location, location yes, but prices rival some beautiful hotels in other countries that are in fabulous locations.

Review 90:Location is wonderful.

Review 91:NYC Expensive. Small, spartan room. 3rd floor room and no elevator. Grout in shower could use attention Desk service could have been faster.

Review 92:Clean and modern Very good breakfast and coffee go-cups

Review 93:We did some research and this looked to be the nicest hotel in Hofn and I'm glad we stayed here. The rooms were comfortable and had all the amenities that we needed. The restaurant was excellent and we were glad that we were able to eat dinner at the hotel after a long day of touring. All of the staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 94:Summer prices are exhorbitant for a standard room and the hotel restaurant did not have the capacity to feed those staying, nor the overcrowded restaurants in the area, unless you reserved ahead (which could not be done in Hotel Hofn). It was our only reservation which we regretted, however, during our great stay in Iceland.

Review 95:The breakfast buffet was respectable and in the pleasant dining room which was not open in the evening.

Review 96:There was no lift. Apart from that everything was excellent.

Review 97:Room comfortable and clean. View from the room good. Breakfast excellent. Stayed only for one night and the price well acceptable (special offer). Were offered assistance with our luggage.

Review 98:No elevator in the hotel. How can you not have an elevator? What if a guest is handicapped or just elderly?? The young lady handling the front desk (maybe she was just filling in and was unfamiliar) but anyway she was not very friendly and not helpful in providing us information or helping us with a reservation problem we had with another hotel. It was left to the young man to step in and help us, which he should not have had to do. We thought the hotel was nice, but still overpriced. It's not a 5-star hotel, but it's priced like one, The rooms are small and simple for the price. Not luxurious at all for the money you must pay.

Review 99:The location was good. One member of your staff, a young man (not the front desk person or concierge) was very helpful in helping us change a reservation at another hotel, change arrangements, make calls for us, etc. It wasn't his responsibility to do it, but he did it anyway. Very good service. Room was clean, food in restaurant was good also.

Review 100:A great disappointment. Huge price for a place where you feel much worse then in a hostel. Very modest and sterile furniture, bad materials, too short curtains, narrow and bad beds and at the end: no hot water - in a country where geysirs with hot water are tourist attraction! Find some other option.

Review 101:Location of this hotel is great in spite of fact that village Hoefn is practicaly the only location in a circle of 100 km.

Review 102:View was probably good for those who could see the glaciers. For us it was of a playground. Smallest, least well appointed room of our trip and cost the most.

Review 103:The location of the hotel was good. Not much else available in Hofn.

Review 104:The room and bathroom of my parents on the other side of the hotel was tiny with no view. Too much tour busses staying at the hotel

Review 105:The location is really nice, walking distance to the sea. Nice view to the glaciers on one side of the hotel

Review 106:The waterpipes and the doors of the other room are pretty loud. The furniture and bathroom are old fashioned. The breakfast wasn`t good.h

Review 107:Its ok, when you stay for one night on your journey through.

Review 108:Helpful staff - needed universal adapter to charge laptop and were able to help out

Review 109:Clean and comfortable room, friendly staff, great restaurant (incredible lobster tail).

Review 110:My room is too small to place my luggages.

Review 111:Friendly and nice staffs.

Review 112:Great hotel, had a lovely night there!

Review 113:The bathroom was mouldy and had a bad smell. Only offered a cold breakfast.

Review 114:Position was good.

Review 115:Great hotel and location

Review 116:A little old

Review 117:Staff and location

Review 118:oldfashioned hotel, too expensive compared to other hotels in Iceland

Review 119:good situation in a calm area, good restaurant, good breakfast

Review 120:Check in person was not very friendly. Dinner at hotel was completely booked. Had to drive to another restaurant.

Review 121:Room was nice.

Review 122:no

Review 123:nothing superise

Review 124:Good "traditional" hotel in the right place

Review 125:Staff are extremely helpful and nice; restaurant food is of high quality; the view is unbeatable!

Review 126:Very tiny bathroom

Review 127:Uncomplicated

Review 128:Clean and free wifi!

Review 129:Room quality was fine for an overnight stay but could be updated to match the quality of the rest of the property.

Review 130:Good location, great breakfast.

Review 131:very comfortable and modern

Review 132:Very comfortable

Review 133:Location with a very nice view. The hotel restaurant is quite good.
