Reviews for Guesthouse Hvammur
Review 1:Staff wasn't very friendly and seemed In a rush to check us in so he could leave. The steps up to the guesthouse were icy so we found that a big hassle. Was expensive for what we got (a room with 2 single beds)
Review 2:Good location
Review 3:The guy who checked us in wasn't too nice. We asked if we can borrow a knife and he said no,even we knew there was a restaurant on the bottom floor... The guesthouse itself is very basic but it's ok.
Review 4:The location is great, the guesthouse is looking at the harbour.
Review 5:The kitchen was downstairs from our room and there were no internal stairs. It was raining heavily when we arrived and to have to keep going outside to get to the kitchen to make hot drinks and for breakfast wasn't ideal.
Review 6:Small but super comfortable room with TV. Very clean. Well equipped kitchen and great shower facilities, although shared. Hair dryers were also provided. Great breakfast provided and was lovely, plenty of choice and plenty of everything.
Review 7:Our room was close to the kitchen so it was quite noisy early in the morning. Bathroom and toilet were shared.
Review 8:The receptionist/ boss was kind enough to provide us three bedrooms instead of 2 (we had 5 people)! One extra bed was given. Effective check in with less than 10 minutes taken. Good wifi!
Review 9:The room was small but clean. Main room/kitchen area smelt stale, bathroom was fine. Good hot shower. I feel it was too pricey for the facilities especially compared to some of the beautiful homely guest houses around the area. Quite basic but ok for a quick stopover if you are desperate. I wouldnt stay again as the staff were unfortunately rude and the walls were paper thin!
Review 10:Clean
Review 11:Awesome location and the staff was very accommodating. Our group of 3 came to the guesthouse drenched from the rain and they let us use their washing machine and dryer. The house itself is adorable and we were able to watch the northern lights from the back porch!
Review 12:I didnt like the co-ed bathroom/sink area. The room was small and simple for the price.
Review 13:the location was great, right on the water. Breakfast was good too.
Review 14:Hotel was easy to find, restaurants nearby, and quiet. We stayed in the cheapest room and it was a little cramped, but comfortable with a fully equipped kitchen and living room with big screen tv. Check in was easy.
Review 15:It's bad enough at these prices to have shared bathrooms, but this took sharing to a new level; men and women toilets right next to eachother with practically no privacy.
Review 16:Friendly staff
Review 17:The guesthouse outside look nice but inside is very simple. Too expensive for this quality. It is a hostel standard.
Review 18:Excellent location! Höfn is very small but cute. Nearby is a very good restaurant.
Review 19:aweful place. no warm water on day 2. walls thinner than paper. moldy smell in the room and bathroom. breakfast is a self service on lowest standard. this is not more than a very low standard hostel i would never accept for that price. . first impression is 'wow this looks nice..' and gets destroyed quick. we even used the shared bathrooms even we had our own, so bad it smelled. breakfast is a self service with packed food in the fridge to take out and two packs of toast. not enough space for everybody at breakfast time. people waited in line. no privacy. no rules. some guests arrived after 23:00 and made food and noise. no personell there to approach. you can hear your neighbor openong a zipper of a bag.. this was a shame for the price paid. stay away from this place.
Review 20:First of all, it seems that this city is a rainny one. The guesthouse is far from the bus station in a rainny and windy day. But the worse for me was the quality of sleep. It is a wood house with four rooms very close to each other. It was really noise people talking in the kitchen, going up and down in the stairs, opening and closing doors. I have asked for something gluten free in my breakfast because i am celiac and they didn't give a damn. Besides it is really expensive. The problem in Iceland is that: like it doesn't have much offers, so they put high prices.
Review 21:The house is charming and the room and the bed were nice. And there was a little bathroom thst i was not expecting.
Review 22:Only one toilet and one shower for roughly ten rooms, shower is in the room for the washing machine. Overall the interior is probably from the 70s.
Review 23:Close to the harbour, beds are ok, clean and silent.
Review 24:More than 10 persons in the boarding house shared one toilet and one shower. The facility was inadequate. Breakfast room was small and food was insufficient.
Review 25:The rent a room for 4 people with an extra bed and it was impossible to put 4 beds in such small room. The price is really expensive for the service they offer and the furnitures were simple and the table and the wardrobe were broken.
Review 26:The situation was very nice.
Review 27:We were a group of 10, and were able to stay in one of the houses (4-bed unit downstairs; 3 two-bed units upstairs) all ourselves. It was fantastic, and a great place to unwind with family. The location is right in downtown Hopf, and near good restaurants, and on the way to (or from) the glacial lagoon and Vatnasjokull. The breakfast is very generous and delicious.
Review 28:The fire safety was questionable as we didn't see any fire alarmsnor did we see fire extinguishers/blankets. There was one verysqueaky bed that led to a bad night sleep for the 5 of us in one room. The bathroom was not very clean and was shared by 5 different rooms.
Review 29:The breakfast food was very good and there was a great view ofthe harbor.
Review 30:The room was so small, there was absolutely no space for wardrobe or any other place for stuff. The only and pretty small bathroom for about ten rooms.
Review 31:Nice location close to the harbour and group of restaurants.
Review 32:Despite having to used a communal bathroom down the hall, it was rather clean. The wifi worked well and the hotel was close to restaurants. The room was small but clean and comfortable.
Review 33:Receptionist more interested in getting back to cafe than showing us the facilities Thin walls and we were disturbed by family next door Breakfast was very basic - no yoghurt or fresh bread not up to scratch compared to other similar guest houses
Review 34:Useful location travelling on ring road
Review 35:We had 10 people sharing a bathroom, only to discover that the people upstairs were sharing the same bathroom. What a jolt!
Review 36:The view from the parking lot
Review 37:Small room with a low ceiling, no wardrobes but min furnishing. Is rather expensive. Had to wait for a receptionist for 15min.
Review 38:Awesome breakfast, living room, kitchen and bathrooms! All possible equipment in the lounge and kitchen for a comfortable stay. Beds and showers are to die for! Good location.
Review 39:Personnel was not very helpful. Our room was not cleaned for five days. We had to clean it up ourselves and look for clean towels. Breakfast place was gloomy and quality and cleanliness was not acceptable. Personnel dropped bread on the floor in front of us and put it straight back on the table. Rooms and shared bathroom in the basement opened directly into the breakfast room.
Review 40:We had a very nice room with a lovely view of the harbor but we were very lucky. Others had rooms in the basement in front of the breakfast room.
Review 41:Hard to use the tub in our room because it is tucked in under a very low angled ceiling.
Review 42:Ideal convenient location, ample parking, great breakfast options, nicely appointed communal spaces, sufficient privacy. Other guests were friendly, interesting, and quiet late at night.
Review 43:Only one shower, toilet and sink on this level for many rooms. No sink in the room. Not enough space for everyone at breakfast. Most guesthouses are simple, but with more facilities.
Review 44:our room was a really small bedroom in the basement (one tiny window), there were 3 more rooms at the second floor, but I don't know how big they were
Review 45:location by the harbor, comfy beds, nice living room, well-euqipped kitchen, good self-served breakfast,
Review 46:no fills - didn't feel special shared bathroom was very basic no plug for the sink so I could shave
Review 47:Close to points of interest. Nice view Casual
Review 48:Only problem: Breakfast. The room is too small for the number of guests and we had to wait for a place to sit and eat. And, seriously? You guys are in such a lovely town! so why do you serve breakfast in a room in the cellar with no windows? On the up side: Breakfast was delicious!
Review 49:Lovely, very old house with a lot och charm and beautifully renovated. Great, very large and very comfortable living are in the ground floor with a large and very modern kitchen at our disposal. We, a party of 5, stayed for two nichts and LOVED it!
Review 50:Our room was upstairs but no view and close to shared bathrooms.
Review 51:Room was clean and comfortable. Restaurants within walking distance. Right down by the harbor.
Review 52:If you are in a twin room, on the ground floor, your door opens to the breakfast area. Breakfast starts at 7:30, so you will be woken then, and have to walk through the other guests to get to the bathroom. The layout of this place is just ridiculous. Prices in Hofn are higher than other places, so just pay more and stay somewhere where you feel like you have some privacy, unless you are ok with the hostel feel of this place.
Review 53:Breakfast staff tried very hard to set up quietly at 7am
Review 54:We had to move the furniture and the beds to have something like a queen bed. Unfortunately the beds didn't have the same height and the floor under the moved bed was dirty. Our room was close to the building's main door and zero noise proof so every time somebody was opening and closing the building's main door we waked up. Too expensive for what you get.
Review 55:Nice staff. On the side of a little restaurant with great Humarlokas. Very close to the port, good for a calm evening walk. Good breakfast.
Review 56:It was fine, nothing to really complain about. Pretty basic, small room, could hear neighbours speaking very clearly (or maybe it was just because he was a loud American
Review 57:Again comfy beds, sink in room with TV and harbour views!
Review 58:The guesthouse was in a good location, by a small harbour and a very short walk to a superb view south west across the bay at the glacial view. The help yourself breakfast was good and plentiful. We all had a very comfortable night's sleep.
Review 59:The bathrooms could use a makeover and the giant room keys are kind of a pain.
Review 60:We went during off-season so we payed for a dorm but got a private room which was nice. This is a guest house, NOT A HOSTEL. So if you want to party, go else where. The rooms are nice and the beds are so comfy. Breakfast was included and had a fair amount of variety. The staff was very pleasant and gave an excellent recommendations on where to eat.
Review 61:It was very cold and icy while we were there and the stairs outside got very slippery. The hand rails were also icy and difficult to hold onto so getting in and out of the apartment could be treacherous.
Review 62:There was an excellent breakfast downstairs in the morning which was perfect to fill up before a long day of adventuring.
Review 63:The only thing they are interested in is your credit card. This is by far the worst guesthouse I have stayed in Iceland, and I would not recommend this place to anyone. There several other guest houses in Hofn and finding better accommodation should not be much of a challenge.
Review 64:Great location in front of the harbor with a very good restaurant very close by, no need to drive so you can have a drink (or 2)
Review 65:- shared bathrooms could be a little bit cleaner (this is also guest's fault) - the "guard" at the breakfast table is making breakfast a bit uncomfortable
Review 66:- view from the window - free and quick wi-fi - breakfast
Review 67:A bit pricey. Only one channel on tv. The heating in the showers wasn't really doing its job
Review 68:Located right next to the harbour with no other houses next to it. There's a small take away 20m from the front door too. Owner is friendly and helpful
Review 69:The shared shower is a bit small and the curtain could have been replaced months ago.
Review 70:Sink in the room, comfortable beds. Breakfast included and was good.
Review 71:When we came to checked in we needed to call the bell and we were told that the person is coming to help us to check in - actually no one told us that this person is not leaving there and we were waiting for around 20 min to meet person who gave us keys. Very poor breakfast... Food was not good at all... Very soft bed that was way too soft to sleep well...
Review 72:The sea view, the sink in the room. The toilets on the corridors clean.
Review 73:Check-in was through an intercom at the door (outdoors!) to signal the staff to come out. Security is obviously not very tight since you could just walk through the doors and roam the room corridors if you weren't guests (not that security's a great concern in Iceland) Walls are very thin such that you can hear the person next door snoring. I booked a quintuple room but I got a three-bed and a two-bed rooms 2 doors away. We were on the second floor but there were no indoors connecting stairs to the ground floor where breakfast awas so we had to brave the gale (and rain) to get breakfast.
Review 74:Bed was comfortable and location was alright with free parking. Bathrooms were shared and since we went during low season (mid-Nov) we had the bathrooms to ourselves and a couple of other guests.
Review 75:The slovenly staff, no lock on the door to our room, having to wait 15 minutes for somebody to let us in, the stink of cigarrette smoke in our "non-smoking" room.
Review 76:The breakfast was ok.
Review 77:They were flexible with our change of dates due to my mistake. Need to press a buzzer when reach the place and a staff will arrive in minutes or call them if u have local no. The stay was comfortable and room come with TV and sink.
Review 78:We had a big group and when we got in there other people also hoping to get a room. We had reservations for rooms, but offered an option of an apartment - perfect! It was an excellent stay and we walked to dinner, etc. Nice breakfast at guesthouse.
Review 79:The host/owner was very kind and considerate the fact that we arrived very late. Location has a nice view of the glacier from afar and also it was right in front of the harbor.
Review 80:Small rooms with paper thin walls. poor lighting for reading. No lounge to sit and relax. breakfast was in a room with no windows. Some ground floor bedrooms had doors from the breakfast room.
Review 81:Location. A good breakfast.
Review 82:The value of money is not that good. It is quite expensive for what you get.
Review 83:The location is great and the snack bar directly at the harbor is very tasty!
Review 84:The doors automatically close and lock. if you don't carry the key everywhere you go in the guesthouse.. you are locked out.
Review 85:Location was good. Right at the harbor. Across from an excellent restaurant, tourist information and museum about the area. Small harbor town right of the ring road Between the end of the south pay and beginning of the eastern part of the ring road.
Review 86:We were 3 ladies and booked 3 single rooms. 2 did not even have a washbasin, we had to clean our teeth on the toilet because there was no washbasin in the common shower. One room joined the windowless breakfast room. Breakfast buffet was in the entrance corridor. We would not recommend it.
Review 87:Walls very thin. Only one shower and toilet between 5/6 rooms, could do with one more of each (however they were spotless)
Review 88:Easy to find. Very clean. Decent breakfast included.
Review 89:When we got there there were no staff and we spent around 30 mins ringing various bells and looking around. OK that is not so bad. We were placed on the ground floor. There were five double rooms. For this there was one toilet and one shower to share. Possibly ten people to one bathroom. This meant that we had to wait a long time to shower and had to keep leaving the room to see if the toilet was occupied. One of our rooms opened directly into the breakfast room so we were woken at the start of the breakfast preparations. The other rooms directly onto the area where people were waiting to leave early or for breakfast. So from the start of breakfast there was noise directly outside the rooms. Our room had bare wires around the electricity sockets. The pillows were filthy under the pillow cases and the bottom sheet was placed directly onto the matress which was very stained. You expect to pay a lot in Iceland in peak season and to be fair the location was lovely - but there is no excuse for dirty beds and the ratio of guests to bathrooms is appalling. There was nothing to clean the shower between users. Essentially the standards of a very poor hostel. Very, very unusual for Iceland as generally no matter what the type of accommodation it is really clean.
Review 90:Location. Wifi speed.
Review 91:Everything was nice and comfortable. No complaints.
Review 92:We stayed in the small house behind the main building. We absolutely loved the full kitchen and help-yourself breakfast. We made a full dinner and it was great. The room was a little small but for only 1 night it was good. I would definitely recommend to stay here for a quick passing-through night.
Review 93:Room was located directly next to the breakfast buffet. We had to go through the breakfast-eating guests in order to get to the bathroom. The toilet and bathroom were shared with 5 or so rooms. In short: very low Standard!
Review 94:The extra room with a single bed was extremely small, with a "bed" that was 2 very, very thin bolsters atop a box spring. It was the closest I have ever been to sleeping on the floor while being in a bed. None of the electrical outlets in the room worked, so no bedside lamp (I recharged my phone in the hallway).
Review 95:The location and view was excellent. It was nice of them to give us an extra room when our party of five wasn't accommodated by the original room they allotted us.
Review 96:Expensive for a room, but less than the other options available. Breakfast was barely adequate.
Review 97:This quaint guesthouse was clean and fairly quiet, and it served the purpose of sleeping (with ear plugs).
Review 98:The accommodation was immaculate, the host very friendly and informative. Stunning location with spectacular birdlife - would recommend this accommodation to anyone - convenient to Rekyjavik Absolutely excellent
Review 99:The advertized shared bathroom facilities is an overstatement for a single toilet and shower room for a whole floor of rooms (five, if I remember correctly).
Review 100:Nice location and comfy room.
Review 101:The bathroom is shared so when someone is showering it takes forever if you have to go. Need to separate the toilet from shower. 8 people were sharing it. Breakfast was, make your own. 8 people making breakfast, 4 chairs for 8 people. Electric sockets dangerous. Hotel needs alittle room updating. Took our breakfast out side to picnic table and that was lovely.
Review 102:View from room.
Review 103:Would have liked a common kitchen to be available
Review 104:Spacious rooms, well-kept in good condition and in a very convenient location.
Review 105:smells strange
Review 106:nice location,
Review 107:Nothing to fault, equally nothing particularly stand out. Feels a bit like student halls.
Review 108:Comfortable beds and rooms Nice breakfast
Review 109:these walls are paper thin
Review 110:location and view are both great
Review 111:none
Review 112:good place near mart
Review 113:We got twin beds where we asked for a double bed. The price is way too high, but in Höfn everything is too expensive.
Review 114:Location is awesome
Review 115:No kitchen to be able to cook your own meals which would be handy in a guest house!
Review 116:The place was charming and cozy
Review 117:Shares bathroom and toilet was good but in season could be a little inconvenient
Review 118:Close access to shared kitchen/breakfast area
Review 119:Not enough shower Unfriendly staff
Review 120:Can't think of any.
Review 121:Very clean room. The shared bathrooms are very modern and clean.
Review 122:Everything. The owner was not nice. The beds are very uncomfortable. The breakfast was of poor ingredients.
Review 123:Nothing
Review 124:Our room (5 people) had a non very confortable bankbed.
Review 125:Breakfast was awesome. Good kitchen and laundry facilities.
Review 126:Location
Review 127:The rooms were loud due to noise from other guest, thin walls and heavy doors.
Review 128:The location was great and bed was very comfortable.
Review 129:Everything was perfect!
Review 130:Good location with nearby walking trails...and close to great langoustine restaurants!
