Reviews for The Malting's B&B

Review 1:It rained. ;-)

Review 2:The owner was very hospitable and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. My vegan requirements were met without fuss. Nothing was too much trouble.

Review 3:Nothing

Review 4:The Maltings is a beautiful old building in a fabulous location, with a warm and welcoming host. We love sitting on the wide bedroom window seat and watching the river flow by. Always a relaxing stay in large, very comfortable fresh rooms. Breakfast is second to none and we love the delicious Irish porridge, rich Irish cream and honey.

Review 5:We liked everything. It was just what we wanted & great value. Lovely spacious rooms, bathrooms with bath tubs as well as showers, tea/coffee/water in rooms, delicious breakfast. We will stay there again.

Review 6:Great location with a river view, rooms very spacious, beds very comfortable. Shower was really powerful. Tea/Coffee facilities and a large bottle of water provided in the rooms (great idea), Breakfast top class. Cannot fault anything.

Review 7:Cosy place next to a river, right besides the castle. The rooms are spacious, with a bath. Breakfast is also very recommended. It came highly recommended by a colleague who stayed here earlier and did not disappoint.

Review 8:Start to Finish, Proprietor dropped us up to where we were going in the town. Room was super for a B&B. Breakfast was great. Credit to owners of B&B

Review 9:Lovely location, wonderful room, very clean and comfortable and the owner was very friendly and helpful. Couldn't imagine breakfast being any better, lovely food served very quickly and eaten with beautiful view over the river.

Review 10:My visit in the Maltings was perfect.

Review 11:A clean warm welcoming establishment in a perfect location with a river outside the bedroom and ancient trees on the far bank concealing Birr Castle.

Review 12:very attentive staff, did feel like I was important to them when I hd a special request they obliged with a smile and did all they could to satisft me.

Review 13:Unfortunately, we took the room that was directly under a group of roomsthat housed people who attended a wedding and made noise at 3am whenthey came in. It took them about an hour to settle down and go to bed.The hostess apologized for the noise and had thought she placed them farenough away.

Review 14:The hostess was warm and welcoming. She gave us a choice of rooms and wechose the smaller one for 3 people. The room was beautiful, comfortableand had a view of the river next to the B&B. She also lowered thecharge of the room since we chose the smaller one. This was pleasantlyunexpected. The breakfast was wonderful with several choices offered, not just the standard Irish breakfast. The breakfast room over-lookedthe river, which was swollen due to the rain. We were served breakfastearly since we had an appointment to tour Leap Castle. We got to seepictures of the Maltings as a hollow shell of a building before it wasrenovated into the B&B it is today. Very impressive! The MaltingsB&B is located next to Birr Castle.

Review 15:I loved the breakfast room with views of the river, it was so calming and relaxing to sit and eat breakfast watching the wildlife on the river. The breakfast was so nice and Maeves daughter was volunteered to drop us up to collect our car after breakfast! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this BnB, they went above the call of duty to ensure your satisfaction!!!!

Review 16:It would be difficult to find a complaint with the Maltings. My only concern was the shower in the bathtub. Climbing in and out could be a little worrying for the more elderly traveller.

Review 17:Not the cheapest B & B but definitely value for money. The location near the Castle and the town makes easy walking.Maeve Garry was a great hostess. Her breakfast is superb and she was eager to please with advice and directions.THe rooms are large, comfortable and clean, with a view of the river alongside the building.

Review 18:No power points to use in room. We had to unplug the lamp and ask for a power board to charge our phones, cameras etc.

Review 19:Excellent setting by the river, close to the castle.

Review 20:Bed was a little small but I am over 6ft

Review 21:The location was perfect, right beside Birr Castle and right on the rivers edge! We were greeted by the lovely hostess who offered us tea and coffee on arrival. The room was cosy and bathroom 100%. The view was beautiful and it was so tranquil by the river. The breakfast was delicious and the hostess was very friendly and really went the extra mile for us. Free wifi too was a bonus :)

Review 22:Interesting and attractive town, The Maltings is beautifully situated beside the river and the Castle, which we had come to visit, our hostess was charming and welcoming and everything was delightful.

Review 23:It was not a problem on a one night stay - but the WiFi signal was very poor in the end room - #4.

Review 24:We used the Maltings as a one night stop - for visit to Birr Castle the following morning. It was exactly what we needed - quiet location, close to castle (and close to an excellent restaurant that we used that evening). Parking was no problem. The breakfast was better than most hotels. Just loved having breakfast sitting right next to the river!

Review 25:Bathroom mirror a bit low for tall person.

Review 26:Very nicely renovated spacious accommodation, in beautiful quiet setting besides the castle grounds with lovely river view from the room and porch. Superb breakfast with lots of fresh fruit, fry, porridge and plenty other choice.

Review 30:Can't complain at all about this property, it's a fantastic location and the facilities were excellent. The breakfast room is beautiful and the staff were lovely

Review 31:From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome by the friendly hosts. The breakfast (by the river) was immense with a great spread of hot and cold options. Our room (also with river view) was full of character. Birr Castle and gardens are next door and worth a visit. Would definitely return if in the area again.

Review 32:We were cycling around Ireland with Cycle Against Suicide to create awareness of mental health issues. Our hosts very kindly drove us to our start of point on the morning of our departure.

Review 33:Breakfast in glass fronted room right next to river is glorious.Cup of tea on adjacent wooden verandah in morning sunshine with birds flitting about. Delicious breakfast--my scrambled eggs on brown toast was just like my Grandma's cooked by Maeve! And served on a hot plate.Good choice of jams and fresh fruit. Comfortable bed, very quiet location. Ask for room next to river.Plenty of parking.Good value for money.

Review 34:I never go out if my way to comment on accommodation, but this B&Bwas amazing! So beautiful! The owners are so helpful! They arranged acab to take us to Leap castle the next day (which was a Sunday, whenthey normally don't operate, and Mother's Day). Our room on theriver was beautiful! Next to Birr castle. And, in my opinion the bestdetail, the comforters on the bed smelled of fresh laundry. I would goback to Birr just to stay at this hotel!

Review 37:Birr is a bit torn up these days from roadworks and a little difficult to navigate. The Maltings is old world which we happen to find charming. Others may not agree.

Review 38:Maeve and Brendan were excellent, friendly, helpful hosts. I'd stay again anytime. The trout in the river and the kingfishers flashing up and down were a delightful bonus.

Review 54:I loved the fact that the river flowed past the breakfast room and the bedrooms. The fresh fruit salad for breakfast was as good as at home and the cokwd breakfast was also very good. The staff were very friendly and helpful and 2 had a very enjpuable two day stay. An unexpected pleasure was seeing a pair of dippers on the riverbank and flying over the water both mornings, a real treat.
