Reviews for Dooly's Hotel

Review 1:The noise from the night club below. And the room was freezing cold after midnight. And then roasting hot from 6am :(

Review 2:Staff were all fab. Rooms were stylish and comfortable

Review 3:Plumbing. The radiator in my bedroom was warm-ish, the radiator in my ensuite didn't work at all.

Review 4:Great location in the town, free parking, fabulously cooked breakfast.

Review 5:Not really a bad experience but as I am restricted mobility wise there seemed to be endless steps and stairs to negotiate!!

Review 6:The nice pieces of furniture placed here and there in rooms and corridors. The overall ambience of the hotel.

Review 7:The service at breakfast was not good, tables where not cleared after guests left for the next guests to sit down. No handrails to help people with difficulty to get upstairs.

Review 8:Their Wi-Fi offering was totally inadequate - but at least they know it and are fighting local technology providers to make it work.

Review 9:Really beautiful and characterful little hotel in a fabulous location in the centre of town.

Review 10:Road works outside the hotel obviously beyond the control of the hotel was the only downside.

Review 11:Great parking facilities, lovely helpful staff, breakfast was spot on and perfect location

Review 12:The whole room cud do wit a bit of an update.bathroom real old and cudnt close the bathroom door at all.Did not like the bed it was old and squeeky. The noise from the nightclub was terrible so was the music from the bar.do not book if ur lookin to get a good nights sleep.its only great for a night out..

Review 13:The only thing i liked was the location.

Review 14:Price was quite high for a middle of the week stay over. Our room was a bit small.

Review 15:The location was ideal for our visit to birr and free parking area was good too. Staff were helpful and polite.

Review 16:Single glazed sash windows offered no sound proofing against the constant traffic through a very busy wee twn. Room was smelly and cold. would not return.

Review 17:Central to beautiful Georgian Birr

Review 18:The night club was absolutely terrible, bathrooms were disgusting , no heating , was definately the coldest place I have ever been, very disappointing . The hotel was only heated in places , overall it was pretty disappointing ,

Review 19:The Price. We paid €99 per night for a double room you could barely swing a cat in and which we had to climb 3 flights of stairs to get to. There was also a slight smell in the bathroom. There is no way the accommodation is worth anywhere near that for this time of year.

Review 20:The staff were very friendly and the location is central. The breakfast was also very good.

Review 21:The window in the room didn't seem to close all the way it wasn't too cold the night we stayed but could be a problem.

Review 22:Clean hotel, friendly staff, room was very nice but bathroom could maybe do with a makeover bring it up to the standard of the room.

Review 23:The hotel is very dated. The room had a TV which was so low you couldn't watch it from the bed. All a bit old fashioned and tired.

Review 24:Location is excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful

Review 25:Having to check out

Review 26:The friendly staff, from the smiling receptionist ,the helpfull barman, lovely waitress to the helpfull owner.Fantastic room, sheer luxury, very large, tastefully decorated (found out later it was the bridal suite).....Perfect !!!

Review 27:Very hot rooms and when you had to open the windows it was very noisey from outside. Wires exposed from bedside lamps and loose connections. Décor in room was very tired and dated and not very clean. Also room was quite small for two people. We couldn't get a WiFi connection in room and only now and again in reception. TV was very dated and poor picture quality.

Review 28:Staff were excellent and food was very good.

Review 29:Found the night staff rude and unhelpful

Review 30:The staff at the check in where polite and very helpful

Review 31:Room quite small..also very stuffy.. bar food only ok

Review 32:Peace and quiet, located perfectly within town

Review 33:I could not use the bath which I was looking forward to. Plumber did not fix it either

Review 34:I liked the relaxed atmosphere and helpfull staff.

Review 35:Room to small. No lift.

Review 47:In thé middle of rénovation .

Review 48:Freindly staff

Review 49:Noisy. Nightclub ran until 2.15a.m. Staff indifferent. Overpriced. Breakfast was basic.

Review 50:Location

Review 51:Location. Bar serving meals reasonably late.

Review 52:Room, bed size, cleanliness of bathroom, noise of works outside

Review 53:The friendliness of staff

Review 54:Pleasant for an overnight stay. Friendly staff. Good bar food. Excellent breakfast.

Review 55:It is an old coaching hotel and has the character of times past---not a complaint I may add!

Review 56:location

Review 57:Consider getting WiFi for the rooms

Review 58:comfortable bed. Nice bathroom

Review 59:waited a little while for breakfast

Review 60:the friendliness of staff and the comfort of the room

Review 61:Good beer, Period Features, Good Price. Very friendly staff. Nightclub on site for the younger patrons.

Review 62:I was assured by phone and on net that wi fi was available in rooms. Not so. Public Transport diabolical. Very short on Staff. Dermot.

Review 63:I found everything to my liking.

Review 64:Staff very friendly and helpful room was nice size and clean

Review 65:The heating wasn't on if it was it was poor

Review 66:Rooms were freezing and the rooms are far too big even tho there was two radiators in the room

Review 67:old fashioned and needs some serious money spent on it. Rooms are a bit small. an old building in the town centre.

Review 68:bit noisy after the crowd came out from night club

Review 69:Beds were poor and shakey. No lift so bags had to be carried 3 floors . Bedroom dated

Review 70:Location staff food cleanliness .

Review 71:Shower was difficult to adjust. Noise from bars an issue.

Review 72:A very accommodating young lady, forgot her name, allowed us to check in early.

Review 73:Being put in a small room on the top floor when the hotel was practically empty and being asked to pay for my nights b & b when I checked in.

Review 74:The breakfast was very good.

Review 75:What appeared to be the manager when greeted didn't reply, and to add insult offered drinks on the house (which were accepted) to the groups on either side of us all of whom were having bar food (which was very good) again we were ignored!!

Review 76:Apon arrival the receptionist "Fiona" was efficient informative and extremely helpful. Great start.

Review 77:rumble of night club until 2am woke me and kept me awake!- i know it is mentioned on the T & C, but thats very little use at 2 am. also, tv on floor at foot of bed- not visible and very few channels

Review 78:warm welcome-food good,room confortable

Review 79:Management stopped the music in the ballroom very early even though many people wished to dance for a while longer. Perhaps there were people upstairs trying to sleep, but no one said so.

Review 80:We had a meal and went to a dance afterwards. The food was very good, really enjoyed it.

Review 81:staff are pathetic room was freezing told it would be fixed next day when I was gone then told if I wasn't happy I could leave and not to annoy them

Review 82:location and nothing else

Review 83:staff were most unhelpful told breakfast finished at 12 but was over at 11.30 when asked about this were told we had to checkout there and then never ever met staff like this lot

Review 84:Our shower was broken, which I thought should have been checked prior to our arrival. It caused considerable inconvenience.

Review 85:The breakfast was a good standard and enjoyable.

Review 86:The room was cold with no way to adjust the radiator. The decor was very old and not that appealing. The bed and pillows were not at all comfortable and I would comment that they don't meet a hotel standard. The bar food was just OK (I bought the best thing on the menu - steak) and not near the standard of all others I have stayed in recently in Ireland. The TV was about 30 years old and even the strong signalled channels like RTE, TV3 and TG4 were stopping and starting which left it impossible to watch. There was no wifi available in rooms which is a real disadvantage to business people wanting to work while staying there. None of the staff asked me the next morning if everything was OK, good hotels always ask!! Sorry for the bad comments, but I am telling it like it was for me. Out of 10, I would give this hotel a 4 at best.

Review 87:The Location was good.

Review 88:My room was cold when I arrived and even with the heating on all night never really heated up. My room was at the back of the hotel and ehen you went from the front to the back there was a significant drop in temperature. I would stay again but insist on being in the front section of the hotel. Food in the bar was poor recommend finding somewhere else to eat.

Review 89:nothing stood out just average hotel at a reasonable price.

Review 90:My room, 27, was at the gable overlooking the busy street, and intrusive traffic noise, especially heavy lorries, seemed to go on late night, maybe even overnight. This room could benefit from fitting economical secondary glazing.

Review 91:This is a lovely old coaching inn in the centre of a small Georgian-style market town. Staff are very helpful and friendly, and food excellent, especially the full Irish breakfast served. Apart from juices and cereals, no self-service here. Excellent!

Review 92:Cramped poky room. Breakfast waitress moved us and another couple fromour breakfast table saying it was made up for the night and then by thetime another couple got there, she just left them, it was a table by thewindow. Either put a reserved sign on or make it up later. Asked forbrown toast, was given white! Small quibbles but you did ask.

Review 93:Lobby and reception area very nice and nice little residents bar withfriendly and helpful barman.

Review 94:Very dark inside . They have a cafe with no windows no natural light.,The hotel is on a nice square so found this very unusual.

Review 95:Central location in town. Parking Wonderful town with lovely well preserved buildings.

Review 96:Mould in bathroom ceiling . Giving a single room as as a double like we asked for . Not enough space to evening sit down in the room no table and chairs . Basically disgraceful for a couple

Review 97:Lovely place where hotel was situated that's basically it

Review 98:Mould in bathroom shower.room right next door to late night disco. Hotel restaurant not open. Television in room not working. Could not open windows for air.

Review 99:the bathroom could have been a lot cleaner they look okay as you go into them but on looking closer they were very grubby especially around the bath taps and shower screen having said that the shower had a very good force out of it. the value for money I have stayed at high class hotel for less.

Review 100:the staff, the food convenient

Review 101:My room was on the very top floor, and apparently no lift. Which would have been ok but I have arthritis in both knees which made it a little difficult.

Review 102:The room was very comfortable and the food , tasty and fresh. Excellent location in the centre of town.

Review 103:We really had no dislikes. It would be advantageous if Wi-Fi wasavailable.

Review 104:Food was excellent - both breakfast and dinner. Food price was sensible.Hotel has a good bar and bar food is spot on and plentiful. Staff couldnot do enough for us when asked. Hotel was clean and tidy. A good nightssleep was had. Hotel location in town of Birr is central and car parkingwas free and secure. A well run hotel. Birr is a neat little town.

Review 105:No air con in rooms Only one towel each had to use wet towel in morning as showered before going out previous evening. Very poor breakfast offer no fresh fruit, only tinned No music at breakfast could hear people at next table chewing food as it was deathly silent .

Review 106:The beds were really comfortable

Review 107:Nothing at all.

Review 108:Very comfortable room and bed, excellent breakfast and friendly, efficient staff.

Review 109:Excellent meal in restaurant. Amazing room, great location of hotel and lovely staff!

Review 110:noise from night club

Review 111:friendly place

Review 112:Value for money - accommodation overpriced - dated & in need of an upgrade

Review 113:staff were ignorant and most impolite ive ever met

Review 114:The staff are very professional and friendly, very nice food good size portions. The only thing missing is an open fire in the bar!

Review 115:Very helpful land friendly staff

Review 116:I liked the location and the people

Review 117:No dislikes.

Review 118:Staff were very obliging, breakfast was good, hotel was situated rightin centre of Birr and wi=fi was free in the reception area.

Review 119:really homely and friendly. excellent breakfast, bar food good. staff really helpful, always smiling.

Review 120:it was right in center of town, relax easy going vibe. I enjoyed my stay

Review 121:the noise outside was very bad. do people complain as a rule. disturbed my nights sleep.

Review 122:very nice and friendly staff.
