Reviews for Castel Pietraio

Review 1:I cannot say enough great things about this residence. Gabriela was friendly, welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. On our last day we left early and she kindly set us a seperate breakfast before the main breakfast area opened so we could eat before we left. Afternoons spent watching the sun set with a glass of wine were simply magical.

Review 2:What a special place..... Off the tourist radar..... The residence was beautiful. I'd love to go back! Gabriella was a wonderful, helpful hostess. Her recommendations for dinner were delicious!

Review 3:None.

Review 4:Gabriela was so nice and welcoming. I would go back, just to talk to her again. We rented an apartment for 3 and it was perfect. We knew it would be in the old castle part and that was what we were looking for. We wanted some old world charm and we found it. Free parking! We loved exploring the grounds.

Review 5:All the rooms of the same prise don't have the same comfort so we had to change. There is no heating even if you need it in September. This is a problem in Italy in general though. We thought that all the rooms were in the castle. But it turned out that the rooms are at in a beautful barn outside the castle and the apartments are in the castle.

Review 6:Friendly staff. Nice place to stay. Some of the rooms are really beautiful. Beautiful castle.

Review 7:Overall feel of the place was very relaxing, located away from the cacophony of the city, in the serene environment. Gabriela ensures that guests feel at home, her positive energy is so contagious! Despite being such an old building, it is very well maintained.

Review 8:Would have been better to have dining facilities as castle is somewhat isolated.

Review 9:Great location to use as a base to explore in Tuscany. Beautiful pool. Gabriella was very helpful!

Review 10:The breakfast was great, but a little light... Croissants, yogurt, cookies. We could've used a little protein option (eggs andham/bacon/sausage) to hold us over until lunch since everythingin Tuscany is a little spread out. My husband is hypoglycemic and he wasstarving within an hour of eating. :) Other than that, it wasfantastic!!

Review 11:The staff was amazing, the wine was delicious, the castle wasincredible, the room was adorable and huge! And the property was no morethan 5 minutes from Monteriggioni... An adorably charming castle-townwith incredible dinners and sunset views!! We are definitely coming backnext year and will bring our family!! ≪3

Review 12:The stairs were a killer! Some of the beds weren't that comfortable. Furnishings were minimal

Review 13:The beautiful gardens and the upkeep of the property is fantastic. Gabriella was very friendly and helpful. Loads of place for the kids to play.

Review 14:No bad experience, but the stairs to our room needs a hand rail for safety reasons.

Review 15:Great looking castle, great location, and great staff. We stayed in a room from the 10th century!

Review 16:The mattress on the bed, I believe to be as old as the castle. On the flip side, you are ready to rise and shine early.

Review 17:Gabriella was amazing. I was so happy to meet her and hope to stay in touch. The castle was very cool and convenient for traveling in Tuscany! Would definitely return. Wine is also very good. Apartment was clean and well kept.

Review 18:I would suggest that one would enjoy the castle more when the weather becomes warmer.

Review 19:We loved the unusual experience of staying in a real castle. The hostess Gabriela was simply personable and fun to be with. Breakfast was fabulous and plentiful.

Review 20:The manager Gabriella of the castle was fantastic. She kept us entertained with her bubbly personality and she was extremely helpful - she even did our washing!! Loved her. Great location near Siena, if you are looking for the old castle experience it's perfect.

Review 21:Very old buildings and antiques can have mold issues. I knew that when I reserved this accommodation, but went ahead anyway despite being allergic to molds. My bad. Be aware of this issue as you consider this accommodation. Our room and many of the antiques in it had a strong moldy/musty odor. Antiques can be beautiful artifacts, but most of these were just "tired." Plus our shower had a great deal of mildew. Ick! We made the best of it, but I can't really recommend this accommodation.

Review 22:Gabriella was welcoming and very helpful. The view from the castle is beautiful and the buildings are historically intriguing. The proximity to the highway and to Sienna were both convenient.

Review 23:nothing

Review 24:Very fun to drive up to a castle and know you were spending the night! Gabriela (who speaks at least three languages very well) makes every effort to have guests feel welcome and comfortable. She has an amazing amount of energy and I think would do whatever you asked. Warning: your GPS may take you to a service station, so get directions!

Review 25:We were only able to stay there one day :(

Review 26:Gabriella, the manager was outstanding! The castle was wonderfully decorated. The surrounding countryside was beautiful. Breakfast was great. And we found the experience very romantic, even for an older couple!

Review 27:Thin walls, room was noisy. If you are sound sensitive bring earplugs.

Review 28:Host was really friendly and funny. She made us feel welcome and helped us out with planning tours and activities in the surrounding area. Hotel is situated in a beautifull castle with nice gardens and a nice swimming pool. Bed was really comfortable, we slept perfect. We would definately recommend a stay in castel pietraio

Review 29:Everything! We went with friends with 2 old cars and were greeted by a very enthusiastic Gabriela who was so friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us during our stay. The rooms were nice. We pretty much had the Castle to ourselves and it's an amazing place. Gabriela kindly showed us around the castle to the roof and the dungeons when we asked, which made our stay. It's easy walking distance to the pretty village close by where we went for lunch and only 5 mins to Monteriggioni by car. The wine was good too! We would definitely return, if not only to meet Gabriela again.

Review 30:great place, great staff

Review 31:The manager , Gabriela, was helpful and very welcoming. Beautiful facility and fantastic breakfast in a glorious setting.

Review 32:The facility and staff were great!

Review 33:Everything was great.

Review 34:The pool was ideallic - warm and with great views. Loved being in a castle and Gabriella was a good host.

Review 35:The mini-bar was not replenished.

Review 36:Great location. Fantastic staff. Lovely Breakfast. Swimming Pool. Lovely grounds.

Review 37:No restaurant No English channels on tv

Review 38:Great, great location A touch of history Fantastic staff

Review 39:Nice staff, location near Monterigionni is great to visit south Tuscany!

Review 40:We were on the top floor, with many many stairs, with very young children and reasonable amount of luggage this was a little difficult at times.

Review 41:Lovely staff, who went out of their way to do anything for you, including our washing (for free!). Apartment great size.

Review 42:Location is sutable for visiting all important sites of Toscana (Siena, Firenze, Pisa, San Gimignano). Suitable also for country touring, vine degustation, traditional meals in restaurants. Nice area, friendly and smiling personel.

Review 43:We had the rooms outside of the castle, which we knew but stillprice/quality could be better: a bit small, wifi weak and thebathroom somewhat smelly. The castle lacks a bit atmosphere. Apart froma bit phony breakfast place there is nothing where you would enjoysitting and having a drink or eat with a nice view. I would not takethis place a second timer

Review 44:Tastefully renovated and decorated Italian castle, excellent pool. Goodinformation of the english speaking staff about surroundings andactivities. Good airco, funny and good working window closings. TomTomhas the castle on its list

Review 45:The walls are a bit thin and you can hear the people in the next room.

Review 46:The staff wonderful. The area extremely interesting and plenty to do. The castle just lovely and the wine yum.

Review 47:This is a beautiful castle near Siena renovated well in lovely surroundings. We enjoyed the ambience ,air conditioning very comfortable rooms and swimming pool. The management are very friendly and welcoming and you really feel at home in beautiful surroundings. We had wine tasting from the Castle which was a great experience with great wines to taste .There is a wonderful restaurant in walking distance by the vineyards in a small village nearby . We would definitely want to return to Castel Pietraio .

Review 48:- only breakfast served (no lunch nor dinner possibility), but several nice restaurants are available within 5-10 minutes drive (Abbadia Isola, Montereggioni, Strove)

Review 49:- beautiful surroundings, large gardens bordering wineyards and forrests, ideal for jogging, walking, mountain-biking - full of nice corners to rest, read or pick-nick without being squeezed together with other guests - extremely welcoming and helpful staff - very nice swimming pool with a lovely view, separated from the rooms (i.e. rooms were calm) - relaxing atmosphere

Review 50:great service. Apartment not for mobility impared, but great for us. Great views and gardens. You will not be disappointed with Gabriella! Try this place and you will like!

Review 51:The entrance for cars to parking area was not good. Drive way uphill is full of small and big stones that caused our mercedes stationwagon slipped. It's a safety issue for people who plan to drive there. Besides, stone walls in winter night too cold for people from warmer places. Heating facility helped a little.

Review 52:Gabriela the host was very nice and provided handful information. We even got a bottle of wine as a gift for our stay. Special experience to stay at a hundreds-year-old castle. It'd be more comfortable to come in warm seasons.

Review 53:Was difficult to find with both google maps and our gps unable to get us there.

Review 54:Warm, welcoming accomodation in a spectacular setting. Rooms were well appointed and spacious. Our host Gabriella was excellent in ensuring our stay was perfect. She was even able to sort out a mistaken parking ticket for us. Couldn't ask for a better place to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.

Review 55:I expected a different ambience for the price and being inside a castle. The rooms were good but not unlike another high end hotel room.

Review 56:It was a quiet and relaxing environment with hiking trails nearby and a small quaint store nearby.

Review 57:I must say that there is a bit of issue with the drains and hot water.

Review 58:We spent a week in October, the Castle is situated at an ideal distancefrom main attractions as Voletrra, San Gimignano, Siena, Florence, theOutlets, …. We had a car which I think is a must, otherwise you arelimited with public transport and it’s time consuming. It’s a medievalcastle so do not expect modern luxuries, but the facilities are cleanand fairly well kept.

Review 59:Second day breakfast appeared to left overs from day before and was quite stale. It would have been nice to see more of the castle itself, aside from the breakfast room, reception and our room.

Review 60:I had dreams of staying in a castle in Tuscany and this came true with our stay at Castel Pietraio. Everything was just wonderful, the grounds and castle itself beautiful, room comfortable, breakfast filling and good (on the first day). Gabriella from the castle was very kind, informative and did a private wine tasting for us, which we very much enjoyed.

Review 61:The hotel is walking distance to the village of Strove and we were underthe impression Strove offered "bars and restaurants". We deliberatelybooked this hotel as we knew we wanted to leave the car behind in theevenings to enjoy the very fine wines of the region with our eveningmeals. The village has only one restaurant and its very high end, goodbut some people may not want to spend to this level on dinner and itshuts on Wednesday. The hotel staff very kindly organised us a taxi toMonterigianno on Wendeday evening (approx round trip of 8km) but thiscost us 40 euro which seemed ludicrous.

Review 62:Very welcoming and very comfortable spacious rooms. Beautifularchitecture and setting.

Review 63:Gabriela, the self-proclaimed "beast of the castle" would better be described as the "best of the castle". The facilities were excellent but Gabriela was an unbelievable delight. There were four of us traveling and we all had a great time.

Review 64:This is our second stay at Castel Pietraio. We used the castel as a base for day trips by car. It was always a pleasure to return to a castle where, we enjoyed a nice room, a beautiful pool, and super friendly staff.

Review 65:Can't say enough about Gabriela, wonderful! Very intimate, historical and amazing atmosphere staying in this castle. Not the same level of amenities at a chain type hotel but a ton of character!

Review 66:Nothing! Everything was excellent. Thank you so much.

Review 67:The location and complimentary breakfast were wonderful, but the bestthing about Castel Petraio was the amazingly helpful staff. They were soincredibly nice, accommodating, and ready to assist with any need thatwe had. I cannot thank them enough for how welcome they made us feel. Wemiss you already!

Review 68:Gabriel was very accomodating, helping us with anything we needed!Location is ideal for all small villages in Tuscany and the room wasvery comfortable as well as having a lovely pool.

Review 69:My wife and I stayed for two nights. We worried about the language problem as we did not speak Italian. When we checked in the clerk did not speak English but it worked out as we got our room. Room was clean and had great windows that opened wide to the country. Later we ran into Gabriella who worked there and was very very helpful. She spoke Italian, German and English so no worries about the language. Gabriella provided directions, sites to see, restaurant advice, very grateful to her. Breakfast provided was more then adequate for us. Nice historic hotel to stay at.

Review 70:A very good location and beautiful gardens and surrounding countryside.Excellent helpful service. Close to Monterigione for excellent meals andmedievil atmosphere, Easy access to Sienna and many other beautifulhistoric sites

Review 71:The staff was fantastic, they treated us like friends/family. It wasvery relaxing and gave us a good view of the past and present of thecastle and its surroundings.

Review 72:Daily room cleaning would help A restaurant on site would be a real plus

Review 73:Location and hospitality

Review 74:Nearby restaurant - Casalta - is not a budget friendly place at all .

Review 75:The castle is breathtaking..

Review 76:Gabbie was her usual ebullient self, and made our stay especially wonderful. This our 3rd stay, and I hope to be back.

Review 77:Very quaint, quiet, peaceful, beautiful place to stay. Great base to explore the Tuscan countryside. The proprietor was very nice and freindly.

Review 78:Was really scary at night time !!!!

Review 79:Amazing in the middle of tuscana Castle !!!

Review 80:Handicap shower was awkward to use.

Review 81:Just about everything. Wonderful hostess and beautiful scenery. Great room with view. Quiet & relaxing.

Review 84:The staff and the ambiance was perfect
