Reviews for Townsend House Guest House

Review 1:we (2 women friends) had two adjoining single rooms which is an excellent arrangement for snorers! The breakfast was great, hot food cooked to order.

Review 2:The location was just what I wanted. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Breakfast, which was freshly cooked and tasty, was served promptly. I would recommend Towsend House. Apart from breakfast, I didn't eat in the restaurant, so I can't comment on that.

Review 3:The room was amazing!!!! I felt like a queen! I have never seen such a nice room and hotel in my life and during all my traveling! Althoug I've missed the breakfast so I cannot say anything about it. But the hotel would be highly recomended! Would deffinatly stau again in this hotel on my next visit! Many thanks to the lovly host. Varvara

Review 4:Nothing was to much trouble for Martin and Lorraine at their lovely guesthouse. We are a group of clay shooters taking part in a competition in Banagher over the weekend and had to be out early on Saturday but breakfast was still provided for us. We also needed a team talk on Friday night and were allowed to use the courtyard for this and then some of us had food in the tapas bar, which was fantastic. We didn't do well at the shoot but thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Martin and Lorraine, thank you both.

Review 5:Very friendly staff and management, great location around the corner from Birr castle and beutiful town of Birr. Lovely food in the tapas bar/restaurant. Room very clean and pretty.

Review 8:Location was great, lovely room with antiques, food was great, staff very helpful, tight squeeze for free parking

Review 9:The car park entrance was incredibly tight

Review 10:First time ever in a four poster bed ... and in a single room! Charming and really helpful owners. Adjoining restaurant with an interesting menu

Review 11:None. Everything was excellent and can't wait to go back!

Review 12:The staff was amazing and so very helpful and nice! The rooms were done in an amazing manner also and very clean. The breakfast was cooked to a top class standard. It felt like home from the second you walked in!

Review 13:This is a truly beautiful B&B in true Georgian style. I had a fabulous 4 poster bed in my spacious room which was beautifully furnished. Martin was a superb host. He went out out of his way when he drove me (and 2 other guests) across town to a retirement function. Breakfast was such a delight. I ordered smoked salmon on scrambled eggs which was not officially on the menu but was served up with no fuss whatsoever. Really can't say enough good about this wonderful establishment and its proprietor. There is a wonderful new restaurant here too which I didn't get to sample on this trip but for sure I will soon!

Review 14:n/a

Review 15:I liked the comfort & the room was like going back in time but with today's mod-cons. The staff was friendly & pleasant & made us feel welcome.

Review 16:The wifi wouldnt connect to my laptop, but sometimes would on my phone.

Review 17:I was there for business and arriving late, so I'd normally try and find a hotel, but they checked me in after midnight and were fantastic. I only wish I'd had more time! My room was the cheapest, but it was well sized and the bed was incredibly comfortable (room 7 I think) Great breakfast, very fast too

Review 18:The single bed was broken down, extremely uncomfortable to sleep. The room was not clean and there was smell of dog. Wifi was extremely slow, mostly impossible to connect.

Review 19:The restaurant food was good.

Review 20:My only comment is on the Wifi which was intermittent, but sufficient.

Review 21:Friendly family run period house in the beautiful town of Birr. Winebar and a new tapas bar (at the weekend) was great with lovely foodand service.

Review 22:When we arrived parking in the back was very tight, so we ended up parking on the road later that night. I know we were told it was safe, but I still felt uneasy leaving it there.

Review 56:Owners very friendly, very clean and comfortable, lovely hot shower and bath, breakfast was very good, didnt have time to checkout the bar and gardens, lovely sleep in four poster bed, breakfast until half ten on saturday so not rushed at all.

Review 57:En-suite was a bit small. As an older person, I am nervous of climbing into the bath to shower. However there was a grab- rail, 'tho it wasn't any help in getting out. I don't like shower curtains either.

Review 58:Friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Loved the furniture, especially the four-poster. Breakfast was very good, with a large and filling cooked breakfast.

Review 59:No complaints really.

Review 60:Nice room with really comfortable bed. Good breakfast. Location ideal for town and surroundings. Friendly helpful owners proud of their lovely Georgian house.

Review 61:We had the unusual scenario of arriving home to find a fire alarmringing through out the house.... And no sign of the proprietors.Ringing the guest house to no avail, while there was no visible fire orsmell of smoke there were a number of doors locked so we had no idea offull safety of the house. We firstly rang the fire alarm company whoadvised to notify the fire services. They arrived, there was noindication of how many guests were present and had to search each roomindividually. The whole process took an number of hours. The followingmorning the owner was less than pleased we called the fire brigade as hewas going to have to foot the bill.... Seemingly we were to know anoutside intercom buzzer was diverted to his mobile... And it wasridiculus that 6 fireman had also passed it a) there was no indicationthis would happen b) the other couple actually did press it to no avail. His attitude left something be desired. We were also charged for thestay... Addmittedly a reduced rate.

Review 62:Parking entrance was very small and difficult to see from the street, but we found it regardless.

Review 63:Convenient location for visiting Birr Castle and Gardens.Owners were very friendly and attentive. Rooms were spacious and clean.

Review 64:The gates into the hotel car park were locked when we returned from the wedding and we had to park on the road opposite. Not a big problem, really, there was plenty of space on the road.
