Reviews for Generator Paris

Review 1:I'll need be honest to you... In many Hostel in the world you can buy your own food and prepared by yourself... if you had place dedicated to it, would be interesting !!! tks

Review 2:Hi friends, I'm Leo from Brazil ! Well, I liked too much this place, everyone were very friendly. All the installations of this place is very nice!!! Merci beaucoup.

Review 3:The staff was kind of rude. I asked for directions and she understood that I was not believing im her. Definitely should not work in a hostel

Review 4:The staff was kind of rude. I asked for directions and she understood that I was not believing im her. Definitely should not work in a hostel.

Review 5:If they can extend the checkout hours, that will be extra nice.

Review 6:Close to the metro station, area is generally safe and the hostel is easy to find. Had a chance to have a quick chat to the one of the owners and he was really nice to give e a bit of history of the city while we were at the penthouse.

Review 7:- Communication is not a strong point of both the administration and the staff. You are not allowed to bring food inside the hostel whatsoever. Information that is quite crucial to some budget travellers, which is only known the moment you checkin. The hostel has its rights to set his own rules, but this should be clear to the clients when reserving the room, which is most cases are 100% non-refundable. Finally, we were informed during checkin that breakfast would cost 5 euros and the next day the price was 6 euros. Although not fair, staff was very rude when explaining that to us. - The bathroom of our 8 bed dorm was not smelly, but also not very clean. - The breakfast had bread, ham, cheese, eggs, coffee, tea and one sort of juice. The quality of the food could be much better, let alone the cleanliness of the glasses and plates provided by the hotel. -All in all the price was ok, but I would not return to this place nor recommend it to someone else.

Review 8:- The whole hostel is quite new. - Comfortable beds and good showers.

Review 9:Brunch at the cafe took forever which didn't maker any sense as the pancakes were not fresh but I suspect came from a bag and warmed up. Like most hotels food and drink were priced at "tourist prices".

Review 10:Great decor and cool vibe. This hostel was honestly better than most 4star hotels I've stayed in. Me and a friend got a private twin room with en-suite during NYE. There was a a bar, cafe, chill out room and even an underground club on site! Staff were friendly and let us check in early!

Review 11:I wouldn't say I didn't like anything from the hostel but just I found the dishes were a bit dirty , probably the dishwasher not washing properly

Review 12:Everything Good location, The room was well clean, bed was very comfortable bathroom , corridors , the lounge etc ... Daily housekeeping Good choices from the menu and good value of money I definitely call again at generator hostel

Review 13:The bar - very low on stock of ingredients for cocktails and wines. This was before new years eve. The one night we were in the bar, someone came to start counting what was needed to stock up. Even after this was done, there was still very limited availability on the ingredients for cocktails and wines. If it was a signature cocktail on the menu you wanted, you couldn't have it unless that member of bar staff who knows how to make it was there to do it for you. There was also quite a lot of small flies in the area by the booths towards the lifs and toilets in the lower ground bar area. After new years, there was still low stock. We didn't spend new years Eve in the hostel as we headed out to the champs elysees. There's not much to eat or drink in the immediate vicinity of the hotel if you didn't want to head out too far. We found this difficult on the first evening we got there, knowing we wanTed to see the local area but not go too far as it was quite late after a long flight. The terrace wasn't open on the 9th floor. The lifts would not allow access to it at all. Towards the start of our week long stay the weather was lovely and with a couple of heat lamps (although you could have done without these in the day) would have made a great area to enjoy. I did not see that The booking.com page or trip advisors etc didn't make any reference to it being closed in low season. Honestly I didn't check the generator website and still haven't to see if this is noted on their site. This was one of the appealing things I considered when booking our stay here. Our roommate wanted a lovely place on her last night, when meeting a friend, for a view of the city on a rooftop bar to sip some champagne or prosecco and instead ended up in a restaurant opposite the hotel.

Review 14:This property may not be slap bang city centre but the metro station on the doorstep definitely made it extremely accessible to navigate around the city. The facilities in the generator were fab. I overheard conversations and I had said it myself that it did not feel like a hostel. The clientele varied between solo and group travellers, families and friends. Having security on the entrance was lovely. They check everyone's hotel key and are professional. The rooms were clean and so we're the communal toilets and showers. I preferred using the communal facilities because they were cleaned more frequently than the ones in your room - having stayed in a mixed dormitory. The bar staff were fabulous too. We didn't have breakfast so can't comment on this. Food however was pretty reasonably priced for what you get.

Review 15:The staff wasn't really nice and the facilities always out of service. While we were ready to pay, the staff said he is going to take the other guest first. The self service machine was broken so we went down to the restaurant to buy drinks, the cashier just beat the change on the table and we were shocked! We booked a whole dormitory for 4 persons and every morning the housekeeper just get in without knocking the door while we were SLEEPING!! And she turned on the light and make the room clean with so much noisy. But the room wasn't totally clean at all. Upon our check-in process, staff never explain anything about traveling or rules or facilities in the hostel. So we brought some food to eat and the security was like an instructors to ask us to finish it in the lobby. Sometimes when we have questions to the receptionist, they were like getting far away from you immediately. Even we asked, they just answer YES or NO only. The location is good for taking metro but that area seems really dangerous. We lived in the hotel and hostel before but this is the worst experience for us. Never come back again!

Review 16:The hostel is quite new and modern, the first impression of the building is good. No need to worry about security.

Review 17:It was a quite a distance away from Gare Du Nord to walk. I had to take a taxi for 9euros but other than that everything was fine

Review 18:Excellent facilities, friendly staff and beds were comfortable for a 1 night stay.

Review 19:There is a rule not to bring food inside the building, nor in the rooms. The hostel is really far (3~4km) from the main atractions of Paris, then you need to take the metro every time. It is a bit expensive, yet it matches with the values of Paris. Need to pay for the towels(10 euros) and padlocks(6 euros, but there is a store selling from 1,50 euros in a secondary street out of the square ~80m) for the lockers. There is no soap nor shampoo in the rooms. Breakfast 5~6 euros.

Review 20:Everything (bathroom, room, hall, cafe, entrance) is clean and comfortable. Helpful staff. Bathroom and shower in every room. Light and electrical plugs in every bed. Heating everywhere in the building. Freedom to walk around as you wish. Stores, food(relatively cheap) and metro 50m from the hostel. Nice cafe and party place inside the hostel. Well organized.

Review 21:The internet connection is a bit slow

Review 22:I really appreciated the cleanliness, the location just next to the metro station Colonel Fabien is excellent as well

Review 23:the overall aspect of the hostel was brilliant in terms of the hospitality of the staff, the service and also the facility provided, but the best thing is really about the room itself. I was looking for a way to charge my electronic device as I didn't bring the universal adapter, however, much to my surprise, for each bed in the bedroom they gave you an USB connector, so you just need to bring in your usb cable with you. Shower and toilet is also available inside the room itself if you don't feel comfy walking around in your pajamas. As a traveller, the hostel provided this luggage compartment that made it easier for you to travel around Paris without too much hastle carrying your backpack around with you. They also a self -service laundry, which is very convenient and traveller-friendly I must say. There also a lounge area where you can just hang out with your friends or meet new people while waiting for your laundry. Although the location is a bit far away from the main tourist location, the metro is just across the street. Worth every penny and I would really recommend this to any travellers out there.

Review 24:The chill-out area was a nice place to relax after a long day of sightseeing. Location at Colonel Fabien is close to multiple metro stops and Gare du Nord train station; it's very easy to get around the city from this hostel.

Review 25:1) Luggage locker need to pay and €3 for one locker is too expensive as we 4 person need to paid for 4 locker. 2) We was was told that the roof terrace was the most beautiful place in generator and it was the must go place. But we don't have a chance to went in as it was close during winter time. :( 3) if the toilet can provide a floor towel and hand soup will be good.

Review 26:Near to metro

Review 27:A+ for location, food & beverage prices, friendly staff, clean enviroment. 5€ breakfast includes muesli, coffee-tea-milk, fruit salad, yoghurt, ham & cheese, choco&jam&butter (one kind from each). Franprix and Bus & Metro station very nearby.

Review 28:1- the bathroom was very dirty 2- there wasn't any cleaning products in the room. 3-and the most important thing that pissed me off was when the security guy didn't allow me to take my food with me to the room, and I was really tired that night and I couldn't get out of my room to eat my food in the loopy till the next day.

Review 29:I liked the kindness of the staff

Review 30:Lack of communication about living room and bar. Need to pay for tooth paste/brush, shampoo/shower gel and towel. Hair drier need ID card. Too big to be considered as a guest house.

Review 31:Baby-foot,small billard, good breakfast, nice living room and bar on B1(didn't try) Fast elevator (4 elevator)

Review 32:As We are tourist, so basically we need room for night stay. So for night stay price that you apply quite more.

Review 33:Overall experiance was nice. We will defenitily visit other cities Generator hostels.

Review 34:They charge for everything..like if you want to storage your luggage and you need to pay. There is tax fee to pay when I checked in. It's more like hotel than hostel

Review 35:Close to metro, bed and facilities are quite new

Review 36:The place for breakfast was very very very dirty. Breakfast was very weak. You have to pay for everything, to have a towel, to leave your luggage. I called them when I made the reservation (1 month before my arrival), to say that I would like to stay in the came room as my friend. They said they could't garantee that. Internet is bad. The hostel is very expensive for what it offers.

Review 37:It is well located and and it has a good security. The rooms is warm and shower is fine

Review 38:There is no kitchen you can't make food by your self and food in cafe in 0 floor is not good and not value for money either.charged 3 euros for water.

Review 39:Its clean and near metro

Review 40:Rooms a little too spartan - could be improved with small touches like nicer towels and handsoap, window wouldn't close, wifi not working.

Review 41:Great location - close to Belleville and easy to travel to Gare Du Nord, friendly staff

Review 42:Nothing. Everything was fine.

Review 43:The staff was really helping and great. The hostel situated in a great avenue near metro et everything was really elegant and classy.

Review 44:Early check out times. Was in a rush to get out. Quite difficult if sharing with 7 other people....

Review 45:Luca and Sam are fantastic staff. Made me feel welcome and are as mad as hatters!!!

Review 46:No kitchen. Eating in the rooms is not allowed.

Review 47:Location is very good. It's not the city centre, but everything is easily accessible from the Colonel Fabien metro station which is 300 metres far from the hostel. I liked the bed as well, it had a shelf, a socket and a reading light. The view from my room was fantastic, I could see the Monmartre. Security service was also impressive. I felt safe all the time.

Review 48:I was the only girl in the room, I felt a bit strange about that. I think it is better to consider about the number of gender when arrange the room

Review 49:Very nice staff and I can feel that the hostel is very well organized.

Review 50:Staff treated me excellently. Everything was very clean, quiet rooms, good breakfast. We never had any problem with facilities except for having to ask for a hair dryer. The hostel is more like an hotel. The building is definitely designed to be a hotel and not just some adaptation of building. The metro is very close and you have atm, pharmacy and groceries store few steps away. I would definitely go back. I went with my wife and got a room with private bathroom and we were both very conformable. The hostel has no rooms with double beds, but you can easily join the two single beds together.

Review 51:The area could be a bit dodgy at night, heard few people had terrible experiences. You can't bring outside food but i don't know how they can actually control this policy

Review 52:Close to metro, wifi was working fine, nice shower, tight security,

Review 53:Would totally recommend to my friends. This hostel is better than some hotels I used to stay in. 3 out of 4 nights I stayed completely alone in the room for 8. Thank you, guys! Your service is worth every euro cent I payed.

Review 54:-Breakfast costs money, we weren't allowed food in our rooms, and there was hardly anyone at the bar the whole time I was there.

Review 55:The room (and batherooms) were super clean

Review 56:extremely slow wifi. the security guards at the entrance were very rude (wouldn't open the door, had to tell them I had a reservation to get in to the reception, even though I had my luggage with me)

Review 57:location, staff, bathrooms outside dorms

Review 58:The hostel was clean and functional. Stayed in the 4 bed-dorm and had no problems at all. I would recommend this hostel to others. And it is in a cool area of Paris - walking distance to Place de la Reblubliq and nice restaurants and bars.

Review 59:The staff was not nice. The security at the door was just plain rude and questioned me why I was there when I wanted to check in. Friendliness is key in the hotel world, so they wont see me there again even though the facilities were good.

Review 60:Brand new hostel but feels more like a hotel

Review 61:The hostel is one of the cleanest hostels i've stayed in so far. Staff is friendly and helpful. The common areas are really nice. The metro station is right in front for the hostel keeps you well connected to the rest of Paris

Review 62:Not so much space in the 4 per. Room even if its not full but its a hostel in Paris. Who is staying all day in Paris??

Review 63:Perfect localisation, Security on the entrance Very kind and friendly staff Fast wifi

Review 64:The problem was that there was no kitchen. And second thing, that person who is 1,93 cm height the bed is too short.

Review 65:The style of leisure zone and cleanless are 10 points. I give bonus points for 5 Eur breakfests.

Review 66:- My room smelt terrible, but this was down to the large party who had been there sometime. My only comment would be that a cleaner should of opened a window/dealt with this. Was truely horrible.

Review 67:- You can only tell this is a hostel when you reach the dorms. Has everything a hotel would. Best hostel I've ever stayed in. - Bar and food was good and cheaper than anywhere else I ate in Paris. - Rooms are modern and had shower and toilet facilities, also extra down the hall if required. - Nice beds, comfy and had plenty of room for storage. - Had scheduled in house social nights. - Free beer in the bar on your first night is welcome!

Review 68:Security There was a huge, hostile security presence everywhere aroundthe hostel. It didn't make me feel safe, so much as threatened.Great big unfriendly men in black insisted on checking id every time youre-entered the building (even if they saw you leave just minutesearlier). I had a single room and had other residents from the hostelhanging out in my room one evening. Two security guards forced entry tothe room without knocking or warning me, and kicked them all out. Afterthat, I felt I was being watched and followed the duration of my stay.It was intimidating, uncomfortable and unnecessary. Any attempt todiscuss this with them was met with an abrupt "don't speakEnglish". The Generator presents itself as fun & friendly fromthe outside, but it's all business inside and the businessdoesn't want any trouble... Or fun

Review 69:It is clean, new and modern. A lot of the facilities were under-utilisedthough, such as the rooftop bar, which was always closed.

Review 70:No soap, shower gel, shampoo, towels - need to buy/rent, luggage storage starts from 2 EUR/6h small bag

Review 71:Comfy bed with power outlet, light, USB, private bathroom, toilet and washing sink in my 4-bed dorm, super clean, staff is great, metro is 100 meters. Good wifi, nice cafe, cool bar/disco in the basement. Enjoyed my stay with great adult roommates (was a little afraid of young crowd who would party hard). Walking distance from North railway (to CDG airport), St Martin canal

Review 72:Snoring roommate, but it's just my karma...

Review 73:Photos represent the truth! Very nice hostel, almost perfect. Cool chill zone, good restaurant, comfy beds, very clean facilities. Metro station is very close.

Review 74:The room was very hot and there was not air conditioning and the window did not open fully so it did not get a chance to cool down. The hostel is a bit far away from the main attractions, but with a metro pass this is fine. The breakfast offered was not very nice and not worth it for what you get.

Review 75:The hostel was very modern, and the bathrooms in the rooms were cleaned every day. The beds felt very private and had their own power points and reading lights. The was even a make up mirror and a place to sit in the room which as well as a really nice cafe downstairs.

Review 76:I had a wonderful stay at The Generator! This was my first solo experience in a hostel and definitely did not let me down. It is very easy to get to from the Eurostar as it is only a few metro stops from the Gare du Nord. You also can't miss it once you get out of Colonel Fabien station! The staff were lovely and polite and helpful, from the door security, to the check in desk, to the restaurant staff. It is beyond clean inside - they obviously take great care of the hostel. I was only there for 2 nights and so only had one meal there, but it was reasonably priced and very enjoyable. I stayed in an 8 bed mixed dorm and had no problems at all. Plug sockets at each bed and storage areas. There was a separate toilet from the shower in the room, but I used the ladies shower room in the hallway just to make less noise. They were also very clean. I would definitely recommend this place and would stay there again for longer.

Review 77:There is no self-kitchen facilities and some of their staff have no simple commen sense (kitchen staff). No outside food rule was unsatisfying.

Review 78:The hostel was really close to the Metro (Colonel Fabian). Only for about 2 mins walk. The room was comfortable as they had awesome beds & a clean bathroom.

Review 79:I liked it. Would definitely recommend to anyone coming to Paris. Just note that the location is slightly out of the way from most of the sights in Paris, but the Metro station is just outside the hostel, so getting around is not hard.

Review 80:-Pricier than most other hostels in Paris -Charge for storing luggage, even if you're just changing rooms -One staff in bar/restaurant kept getting orders confused -Always a long wait at reception

Review 81:-Right next to Colonel Fabien Metro station -Clean room and bathroom -Light, power outlet and small area for your belongings at every bed -Locker big enough for my backpack

Review 82:It is very near to the Metro and also a lot of eateries around. The room we stayed was airy and spacious with nice balcony view. We also like the design of the bathroom too.

Review 83:breakfast could have more choice and be less messy. Facilities in room could have been cleaned more often (i.e. the shelf in the shower was covered in dust.)

Review 84:friendly staff, good location, good value

Review 85:In both my room and another room, visitors were placed in the wrong bed. My travel companion found a stranger in her bed. When the front desk was questioned, they stated they didn't have her registered. It took nearly an hour to get it sorted.

Review 86:They should have included in their instruction to locate the hostel that it is just near a Metro station. Also, they should have put the sink inside the toilet.

Review 87:The location is at walking distance with the Metro station (Colonel Fabien). The hangout area is very inviting. As for the room, it looks new. The bed is comfortable with roomy, sliding compartment underneath where you can keep your things.

Review 88:Firstly I was sent to the wrong room. My locker was breaked by a staff. All my items got accidentally wet by the same staff. They try to refund, but it not worth :(

Review 89:Reception ability to assign bed and locker unaccurately to the guest. Somebody occupied my locker assigned to me. And when i went back to the room somebody slept in my bed.

Review 90:The facilities.

Review 91:Excellent location, in front of the metro station, atm and supermarckets; Very clean and the reception is excellent. All in terms of Hostel of course. Recommend!

Review 92:No kitchen.

Review 93:The whole hostel is well decorated and furnished, also Apple computers free to use. the location is Ok, though away from walking distance to tourist attractions, considering the convenience of transportation in Paris. 4 bed dorm is perfect for friends travelling together.

Review 94:I like that they are near the metrotrain station and that they also have laundry facilities. I also love the fact that they have a locker where you can store your stuff for a fee.

Review 95:The beds were a bit too hard and I found it difficult to sleep

Review 96:The decor was modern, fresh and stylish. The facilities were excellent: toilet, showers, electricity points, common room, reception and tourist info. Rooms quiet and peaceful.

Review 97:The reception is crowded all the time, people coming and leaving, if you need to ask for information you have to wait in line.

Review 98:The bedroom, the bed, facilities in the room, lockers, lights in bed, plenty of space to put clothes, restroom, everything is well cleaned. The hostel has a really good structure, with restaurant, a bar, sth like a nightclub and it is really close to subway station.

Review 99:Sadly the roof bar was closed but even the reception staff were unaware of this!

Review 100:The convenient location, the area, the room, breakfast of only 5 euros and the luggage storage facility

Review 101:All was good.

Review 102:The place is really clean and very modern..it is true it's more of a hotel than a hostel..rooms are big with a pvt clean toilet per room..the staff are really nice and friendly... I also liked that the security guard doesn't let anyone in at night except after checking his room card.

Review 103:wish there were more options in breakfast

Review 104:very clean and modern and the staff is very helpful In general very good place to stay. I will choose it again if ever come back to Paris.

Review 105:The breakfast was not so tasty but you could fill your stomach with that... I would have wanted to make my own breakfast. No cooking possibilities in this hostel. It will make you stay in Paris more expensive...

Review 106:The staff was nice and helpful. The hostel was stylish.

Review 107:Breakfast. Breakfast doesn't taste good at all. The orange juice, mango &a kiwi juice taste really bad! Ham is okay, cheese has no taste and boil egg.. That's all fire breakfast and it's 5€.

Review 108:It's really close to metro and near cafe, bar and market.

Review 109:Many amenities in the Hotel, very stylish space. Wonderful staff, very good atmosphere. Extremely well located near Gare du Nord and in proximity to Metro. Great experience all in all.

Review 110:When in the quad room I had to rent towels. When in the single room did not have phone chargers and had to buy one.

Review 111:It was good location for the metro, staff was nice & helpful & room was very clean. Also liked having lockers to store our luggage since we arrived early & could not check in.

Review 112:The food is really bad and it takes so many time to serve it, even if there's no one there!

Review 113:The atmosphere is really good, staff always helpful. The roof and bar are GREAT!!

Review 114:The consultant is so great to recommend the place for me to travel around and buy the souvenirs. Moreover, she had booked a shuttle car for me to go to the airport. It is much convenience for me as I had many baggages at that time. On the other hand, the securities are professional which makes me feel safety there.

Review 115:like the design and he spcious room

Review 116:people should come clean the dorm and throw away unused stuff. should not get people to pay for Euro 6 for luggage storage.

Review 117:Rooftop bar was closed, seemed abandoned with chairs and tables with waters even not in a rainy day. You cannot bring food inside the hostel, no kitchen, the big guys at the door look like security in a night club they don't let you in easy if they don't see your keycard and if you have any visitors thay are not guests of the hostel they will never let them in not even during the day in the common areas... pretty ridiculous. The staff at reception was excellent though. The area is not good, you need to change metro stations to go to the center and i didn't feel really safe with the people i saw in the area during the night.

Review 118:I liked the staff, really helpful. I liked also the showers and toilets they were clean.

Review 119:Fairly pricey when compared to other hostels across Europe but been Paris this was to be expected. Bar got cut off fairly early even as it was still raging.

Review 120:Really flash hostel located right across the road from the metro. Comfy beds great shower and lockable trunks for backpacks. The bar was really going off also.

Review 121:There is no towels, you must pay for towels. Also the locks should be for free, you have to pay 6 euros to get the lock.

Review 122:The place is really Clean and comfort, very close to metro access, and supermarket and restaurant are very close to the hostel.

Review 123:Basic tea and coffee facilities whe. Bar is closed would be nice

Review 124:Amazingly clean hostel and bathrooms, staff very friendly and helpful. Well thought out use of space in the rooms, especially placement of lights and power sockets

Review 125:The room was not cleaned well. It was very cold in there as well. The beds were not comfortable.

Review 126:The staff was friendly and helpful. The location is fairly good. The hostel is very close to the metro station (1 minute to walk) and the closest store is whithin a 2-minute walk.

Review 127:I booked the room on booking, it made a mistake. I ordered 6 beds but in the next website it can only ordered 4 beds at most but when I pay on website it showed 2 beds. I cancelled this order in time. And booking 4+2beds again , and check in with the time I ordered. But it still deducted my 70€. I want to say it's not my fault to cancel the ordering. I try to call booking but Hotel indiscriminately still no refund back to me. i don't know it's because of hotel is sooo bully or booking's communication was not clear to the hotel. I want my money back.

Review 128:Could do with some drawer as nowhere to put your clothes away.

Review 129:The convenient location and very reasonable price. A very good shower. Room clean but floor should be vacuumed each day. Like the wooden floor rather than carpet.

Review 130:Location is okay as metro station is literally across the road however it is a little off the beaten track!

Review 131:I had left my phone behind in the hostel and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. They arranged to have it posted back and had it returned without any issue! Staff were friendly and welcoming on arrival. Modern and fresh decor. Nice areas to relax if you wanted, although we didn't have time. Great that the shower and toilet are separate, especially for 4 girls getting ready every day! Beds were very comfy.

Review 132:the cleaning lady didn't replace the toilet paper after it had run out, even though she cleaned the toilet and shower everyday... Odd that she wouldn't check that.. Especially considering I stayed 5 nights. I just used the other toilets on the floor instead.

Review 133:Very clean, good facilities, 1 minute walk to metro. Several supermarkets surrounding it. Didn't visit the bar or club during my stay, but people seemed to enjoy themselves. Charger and light at every bed! Would 10/10 stay here again.
