Fauzi Azar Inn

Fauzi Azar Inn descritpion
Located in the old city of Nazareth, the Fauzi Azar Inn is a 200 year-old Arab mansion offering dorms and private rooms in a unique and charming old world atmosphere.
Mentioned in the Lonely Planet guide in 2007 as “one of the highlights of a stay in the Galilee” and a “great base for touring major sites of the Galilee,” the Fauzi Azar offers large public areas where guests can socialize and exchange stories.
The Fauzi Azar Inn is located in the heart of the souk (market) area, just one minute from the vegetable market and a few minutes from great restaurants and coffee shops. The Basilica of the Annunciation is 1,700 feet away.
The Inn is a 3-story stone building from the 18th century with a 20 feet hand-painted ceiling, a Turkish marble floor, a magnificent hall with panoramic views, and a courtyard decorated with stone arches. The rooms and dorms are bright, clean and cozy. Wireless internet is free.
Experience the city off the beaten track with a city tour lead almost every morning at 10 am by the knowledgeable local guide Ateff Onnala.

Reviews for Fauzi Azar Inn
Review 1:The price for some private double rooms (without bathroom) is somewhat high when considering the common bathroom, the distance to it and the amount of bathroomfacilities.
Review 2:Very nice people, nice extra services (cake, tea, coffee, free tour), beautiful old house.
Review 3:If you travel by car - you have to park several minutes away.
Review 4:Everything! Place is amazing situated in Old City ( we had some problems to find but we started from the top - wrong way!;-). Really unique building. Service was great: nice and friendly people, free coffee, tea and cake all the time. A lot of place to sit together and meet people. Nice rooms- we could choose from two rooms. Super breakfast!
Review 5:Hot water for shower was not very effective. Breakfast could have been better.
Review 6:Uniqueness. Personalized history of the family by the granddaughter. Tastefully decorated. Authentic. Quiet. Awesome location in the old city. It was more than lodging, it was the whole experience.
Review 7:Be prepared to climb many stairs with your bags. I did not have a bad experience.
Review 8:Great atmosphere and kind staff. I enjoyed the spice cake and coffee.
Review 9:as usual in Israel, prices are high.
Review 10:The Stay at Fauzi Azar's Inn is the highlight of our visit to Nazarath. There aren't many guesthouses in israel as it is, and Fauzi's gives you the right atmosphere for a traveler. Staff & management are ultra friendly and there is always someone to talk to. The free tour which follows a presentation by the owner, Fauzi's granddaughter, Suraida is a must.
Review 11:There are a steep set of stairs that you need to climb, which may be intimidating if your luggage is heavy.
Review 12:Great quaint accommodation, good wifi, pleasant staff and lovely breakfast. A highly recommended place to stay. Good free walking tour to get yourself acquainted with Nazareth.
Review 13:If you are arriving by car, it is best to find a carpark outside of the old city and walk in.
Review 14:Staying at the Inn was a great experience. We especially enjoyed the free city tour. The location was good for wandering around the old city and historic/religious sites. The staff was friendly and provided good recommendations.
Review 15:Upon our arrival the receptionist/manager blamed me for having a difficult time driving around Nazareth trying to find them. We were locked out after dinner, as the key would not unlock the door and there was no overnight staff on duty. We finally gained entry after half an hour of attempting to gain entry.
Review 16:The common area couches.
Review 17:We paid 150$ for one of the most expensive rooms thinking it was a hotel.. The place and staff are great but it's more for people wanting to share accommodation like a hostel which they offer. The room was sparse and not worth the money. I would stay again if we wanted a shared room.
Review 18:The hostel was convenient and well located.. It had an awesome washer and dryer that saved our sanity and clothes!! They also included a nice free tour that introduces you to the locals and the recent history about their economic situation.
Review 19:There was nothing that we did not like
Review 20:I loved the rambling Ottoman house and the high ceilings, the trickle of water and the birdsong. We couldn't believe people would be so kind. The welcome cup of tea was a very special touch.
Review 21:There are a lot of stairs here. We travelled with my aging in-laws and didn't realise they'd have to climb a lot to get to their room. The bed wasn't comfortable. The breakfast was okay, fairly typical Arabic food (I live in the Middle East), but more the kind of thing you'd find in a home, rather than expect in a hotel. The Inn feels more like a nice youth hostel with good facilities than a hotel.
Review 22:Staff are very helpful. The location just outside the old city of Nazareth is excellent. The building is quaint and has lovely small gardens.
Review 23:What's not to love? The car-free location, the beautiful architecture of the inn, the cozy room, the friendly staff, the great breakfast, and the whole ethic of the place, all appeal to independent travelers such as ourselves. Fauzi Azar Inn is a real gem!
Review 24:there was a missunderstanding between booking.com and Fauzi about the price of our room. the receptionist did not help at all.lucky for us booking.com costumer service is amazing and they fixed it in seconds. the room was dusty, with almost no windows and we both became a bit ill during the night
Review 25:location, the house it self, good atmosphire, very welcoming
Review 26:No car can reach this inn. So be prepared to drag your luggage for 5 min. The deluxe room was very disappointing, very small; had to start the heater 1 hour before taking a shower. No bathroom door just a curtain. Husband had to climb a very narrow staircase with big suitcases. Definitely not for people with high expectations.
Review 27:Great location. Right smack in the old city. Friendlly people. Interesting inn. Good for young people where they can meet and discuss their trip. More like a hostel than an inn.
Review 28:We loved Fausi, but the weather was not good... not much anyone can do about that!
Review 29:The welcome and generous hospitality was outstanding. The tea room was a great place to meet others. We would definitely stay there again.
Review 30:We will never forget this place & it's charm. Help with the Jesus Trail. Located in old Nazareth (great location). Old world charm with a modern bathroom and great bed. Incredible breakfast with homemade cake made with love!
Review 31:Keep in mind you have to pay for parking nearby, bit poor breakfast, cold dark room (in winter).
Review 32:The exterior of the hostel, special atmosphere there. Good location - in the oldtown.
Review 33:Very special authentic place in Nazareth market with very good location to explore the city. The place offer very interesting free tour every morning (our guide Linda was the best). Helpful staff and really nice breakfast
Review 34:If you are very tall, e.g. above 1.85 m, the beds might not be long enough for you (the very helpful staff offered us other rooms but unfortunately same rather short beds in each).
Review 35:Very nice courtyard - cool and relaxing after the heat in the streets outside. Helpful and welcoming staff. Excellent local breakfast.
Review 36:The inn is not accessible via car (this is not made clear on the website); and is therefore difficult to reach if carrying suitcases due to steep steps. The inn also did not offer any help in this regard. The breakfast was very meager.
Review 37:Charming building and courtyard, clean and spacious room. They did accomodate a room change request (the initial room was not accessible with our two suitcases).
Review 38:Internet problematic. I managed fine, but people need to make sure they are fit enough to walk with luggage a fair distance from outside the old city & to be able to negotiate the steep stairs to reception.
Review 39:free tour of area surrounding the Inn. self contained apartment for 4 people. free tea/coffee & cake Helpfulness of the staff laundry facilities
Review 40:Room could be a little bit noisy because it was right off the courtyard.
Review 41:Beautiful hotel--the rooms have lovely high ceilings and the courtyard is gorgeous. Friendly staff.
Review 42:Some noise from guests late at night as walls and doors were very thin.
Review 43:The location was great for exploring Nazareth Old Town. Everything was within walking distance, which meant you didn't need your car if you planned on staying local. Lovely, helpful staff. Nice to have free coffee and cake in the afternoons. Nice, relaxing atmosphere within the house, having a great 'hang out' area in the courtyard.
Review 44:The showerhead needs replacing.
Review 45:Fantastic staff--the receptionist stayed late for us when we called we were arriving late. The setting--a remodeled Ottoman era mansion--is wonderful. The room was clean, airy, light and spacious. The reception area was beautiful and authentic, and the breakfast opened out onto the quiet market street--GREAT breakfast, and fresh homemade cake and coffee/tea/milk/water available all day.
Review 46:The w.c. And shower cubicles in room 5 were very poorly structured and tiles on the bedroom floor were broken so that one could cut your feet on them.
Review 47:The atmosphere and the fact that it was an old mansion.
Review 48:Questionable guided tour of the old city.
Review 49:Good facilities.
Review 50:Amazing and beautiful Place in the old town, great and very friendly staff, Free coffee and delicious homemade cake. Absolutly reccomended!!!
Review 51:Windows could be better isolated - it was quite noisy through the night ...
Review 52:Great location, lovely interior, very nice and helpful staff.
Review 53:Slightly expensive for what it is.
Review 54:Great location near all the important landmarks, very helpful staff, good breakfast.
Review 55:The staff was really friendly and helpful. The guesthouse was amazing. Interesting (free) tour offered by the guesthouse
Review 56:- very tiny bathroom - not enough privacy in the bathroom
Review 57:- the staff - the atmosphere - the building - location
Review 58:They let us sleep in a very bad kept old place.Shame!
Review 59:The location
Review 60:The warmth of the staff was a memorable experience. The history of this property is amazing.
Review 61:The price. Expensive for an Inn.
Review 62:The reception very helpful, the personnel and the atmosphere
Review 63:Cold room poor bathroom hard to locate no parking
Review 64:Charming & full character good breakfast
Review 65:Very helpful staff Beautiful rooms Kitchen and lounge available - great to meet others
Review 66:Climbing the steps
Review 67:Friendly helpful staff. Beautiful outdoor sitting areas. Accessibility to kitchen. The free tour.
Review 68:The courtyard, the location and the people
Review 69:The setting inside the old city lanes, the lovely yard, The kitchen facilities
Review 70:Lack of toilets, difficult to access by car
Review 71:The quaint architecture, ready cake, milk and fruits available
Review 72:Nothing
Review 73:Still feels like an original home, interesting history of the home from the owners daughter. Very relaxed and peaceful, fantastic breakfast, a great experience overall.
Review 74:Hard to find if you arrive at night. Cleanliness is not among the things you would remember of this place. Room's furniture is veeeery "minimalistic" [not to say poor]. All the above however is quickly forgotten and forgiven thanks to the staff and the atmosphere of the place!
Review 75:The location is perfect, in the heart of the old city and the accommodation itself surely puts you in the "pilgrim's spirit". In one word: authentic! Not to be missed the free tour starting at 9:30 from the hotel.
Review 76:Parking was very difficult, had to park far away in a lot and pay for parking, then walk quite aways with all our luggage. We understand why now because the old city the roads were wide enough for traveling camels, not cars and room for parking.
Review 77:The armosphere was fantastic. We enjoyed the free tour with Linda. She was a passionate and friendly tour guide. The all day unlimited coffee, tea, cake and fruit was a delightful surprise.
Review 78:The charm of the place is breath-taking and it is very well located. Staff is very nice also. Be prepared that you can't park thr car that near though.
Review 79:Immediate area seemed 'shut' and run down (pile of rubbish) - but we understood from staff that Nazareth is on the up and gradually more and more shops are opening and the rubbish (old sofas etc) did get cleared away.
Review 80:The history of the building, the story of the change to being a guesthouse, the free tour of Nazareth, the lovely quiet, tranquil open spaces in the guesthouses.
Review 81:Nothing in particular. Would have liked to meet the persons involved in the planning of the Jesus trail.
Review 82:The location of the accommodation. The friendly accommodating staff.Staff was always on hand to offer advice. Breakfasts was better than most of the other accommodations we stayed at. We stayed in the annex and the room was comfortable. they also offred a free tour of the old city.
Review 83:Slightly hard to find. Was very glad I arrived before dark. Would have been nearly impossible to find on my own after dark. No taxi access to that part of Old City Nazareth.
Review 84:Friendly,helpful staff and other guests.
Review 85:bit difficult to park the car.
Review 86:This must be the best budget place in Israel. they make you feel at home the minute you arrive. Excellentbreakfast, cakes en fruit everywhere. Just great!
Review 87:very cozy place, very friendly - you can stay at kitchen or hall or terrace for tea with cake or fruits any time. The hostel offers an interesting free-tour around the city, but note that sunday is a holiday here, nothing works.
Review 88:Bathroom a little small for a tall person like me. Heater so so.
Review 89:Good basic rooms with all you need. Clean. Interesting building. Decent breakfast Insist the bus diver drop you off opposite the supermarket and NOT near McDonald's. I arrived after dark and was let off near McDonald's and there were no signs. Tricky to find. However there are clear signs from the supermarket bus stop. Comfy bed.
Review 90:A particularly charming hotel. Large old house in ottoman style, with peaceful open central courtyards, lounge chairs etc. Very kind staff. (Belgian visitor)
Review 91:It's pretty chilly in January - you can't do much about that, it's an old building, so you just have to wrap up warm.
Review 92:The first thing to do here is the free tour. You won't learn about Nazareth's religious history, but instead you will learn about the locals in the immediate area, how the Inn came into being and how it's helped regenerate the old city. Staying here means you not only get to sleep in a beautiful old mansion in the heart of the souk, but you also get to meet the locals. It;s a great place to base yourself to visit the surrounding area too.
Review 93:The best hostel in Israel...clean,good food, nice people..but above all of this, the hostel itself has a spirit...you should add it to your list of points of interrest..its a MUST to see...:))
Review 94:Would be difficult to find, but signs are posted...washing machine atemy money, and it only accepts 1 and 5 shekel coins
Review 95:Welcoming staff...I Loved learning the family history of the house, andit's great to see the area beig revived...a great job with postingsigns on the street to direct travelers
Review 96:The welcome, they even put our case in our room. They made mint tea all the fruit and cake was free simply lovely. The volunteer staff from Taiwan Belgium and USA were making dinner which they shared with us.The place is really old and the ceilings are high and decorated.
Review 97:Some of our windows were broken with no glass, which was little uncomfortable due to the street noise. The bathroom was kind of smelly
Review 98:Beautiful courtyard in the main building Very friendly staff, redy to help Place to meet other travellers
Review 99:Welcoming, comfortable, clean and helpful. Fauzi Azar is as close as one can come to lodging in the 18th c with the addition of a great bed and hot water. It will always be my choice in Nazareth.
Review 100:Arrive during daylight, as it may be difficult to find at night, and if you have a car, hopefully it is a small one for parking/driving purposes down the laneway.
Review 101:Lovely courtyard setting once you enter through the very tiny door. (Duck). The reception is up a staircase and then you are shown to your room. We were in the building right across the road which was very nice and very private. It boasted a large bedroom, shared bathroom with only one other room, and a private roof top terrace. There was plenty of coffee, tea and a small fridge as well. We were welcome to go back to the main hotel and help ourselves to cake and/or fruit. The place itself was a tad difficult to find, and parking can be a bit of a challenge, but once there you will be glad that you came. The breakfast was very plentiful and also interesting. It offered many items that I had never eaten before, or even know the name of.
Review 102:The story of this hostel is a very unique and moving story. Be sure totake the free tour (at least the first part) to learn about the historyof this beautiful Arab mansion. While politics are not explicitlydiscussed on this tour, you will get to know a very differentperspective on the reasons for the conflict.
Review 103:I felt my room was a little too expensive for what I got.
Review 104:The hotel itself is an amazing building. Old and crumbling in the best possible way and located on the edge of a medieval Arab souk. Staff are very friendly and have modernised the building where it counts. Breakfast is fantastic.
Review 105:It's down a back street - only 2 minutes walk when you know the way, but not so easy to find for the first time in the dark.
Review 106:A building with character. Breakfasts are good. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Review 107:Stay Stay Stay!!! Everything about this place is wonderful. The Guest House is a home away from home. Upon arrival you are greeted tea and cake and treated like an old friend coming to visit.
Review 108:The hotel was a good looking old Arab mansion, but I did not like the room at all. We asked for 2-bed room and we got 4-bed room. It was very noisy, dark and the bathroom was very small and unconvenient. Moreover, there were no mosquito nets on the windows and we spent the night hunting mosquitoes.
Review 109:Right in front of Sea of Galillee shore... best place to start visit the area n the Best is to rent a car for 1 day or 2... free parking behind Hotel .....
Review 110:the free tour is very commercial - if you really want to know Nazareth concider to take another tour
Review 111:very nice atmosphere, beautiful rooms and lobby, very nice location in the heart of the old city. it's not a fency palce but everything is inviting and comfertable.
Review 112:Wasn't necessarily good value for money for a private room, as it is quite basic. However this seems typical of Israel.
Review 113:Great location and helpful staff. Old style building was interesting.
Review 114:Wonderfull staff really friendly and helpfull with the children reallynice old arabic house confirmation of reservation by maio with usefullinformaiton (parking place, how to arrive, free city tour) good qualityand quantity breakfast
Review 115:The staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms very large (although the bedroom was tiny) and fresh. We loved staying at Fauzy Azar! There is always cake and tea/coffe for guests (free of charge), a kitchen were you are free to cook or store your food in the fridge. There are many common areas in which you can stay with other guests.
Review 116:The two huge dogs barking nearly all night opposite our window in the street. We had it bad for both nights of our stay.
Review 117:The friendliness of all the staff and they were all so helpful.
Review 118:We had no criticisms.
Review 119:Very friendly and relaxed. Helpful staff engaged with their community. Excellent location and a lovely old building sympathetically restored but not overdone. Very good shared kitchen/clothes washing facilities. Good public spaces for just sitting around when one did not want to be out and doing.
Review 120:Perhaps some of the surrounding streets could have been cleaner.
Review 121:It was the friendliest hostel/hotel I have ever stayed in. The staffwere very helpful and made you welcome the moment you stepped in throughthe door. They not only told you what you wanted to know ,but did sowith happy cheerfulness.
Review 122:If you arrive driving a car, it is almost impossible to find the hotel. Even with a navigator. The data given on the booking.com e-mail are very poor.
Review 123:the place is not easy to find.
Review 124:It's a really nice place to stay and very clean. The breakfast is more than enough. The stuff is very friendly and authentic. I recommend the free city tour.
Review 125:Parking was far from the hotel and very limited, if you don't find a spot in a specific area then it costs 40 NIS.
Review 126:This Hostel has great character and ambiance. Fauzi is a clean and friendly place to stay that is close to all major sites in Nazareth. Staff is great and so are the conversations among guests.
Review 127:Difficulty in finding the hotel. Gps coordinates took us to a very steepstreet on the hill above the hotel. Should have taken a clue when nostreet address was on the confirmation!
Review 128:It was spartan-ly comfortable. Meeting other travelers was fun. FreeCity tour was interesting.
