Reviews for Ferndale Luxury Boutique Bed & Breakfast

Review 1:Everything was perfect!

Review 2:Really liked the attention the guys paid us, nothing was too much to ask for. Breakfast was delicious and never ending until full. Fabulous b&b, gorgeous rooms, would not hesitate to go back!

Review 3:Excellent experience. Extremely comfortable could have stayed longer. Owners are charming and helpful. Highly recommend it to anyone thinking of staying here.

Review 4:Fantastic accommodation; the place is special, with stunning room/dining area decorations. Superb breakfast quality and fantastic personal guest service from the owner. Great location with amazing sea view onto the Keel beach. Looking forward to another couple of days there.

Review 5:Tea was offered in the lounge rather than in the rooms. Although the service was great and we were told we could ask anytime, we didn't feel comfortable calling up at midnight for a bedtime cuppa!

Review 6:The rooms lived up to our expectations and the photos on the website. We were given the option to upgrade our room on arrival and the Venetian room we stayed in was just wonderful, comfy and luxurious, if somewhat bizarre in the setting of the otherwise typically Irish village of Keel. Jon was a friendly and helpful host and we really enjoyed our stay.

Review 7:Stunning room decoration, superb quality dining experience in the restaurant, great location on hillside, excellent personal guest service from the owner Jon.

Review 8:Although tea and coffe was always available, would've been better to have our own tea and coffee making facilities in the room....

Review 9:Beautiful views. .very comfortable room..not your average b&b.owners and staff we're lovely. If your looking for something different this is the place.

Review 10:Nothing negative

Review 11:Great welcome by owners. Lovely room with themed decor. Beautiful views of Keel bay. The breakfast with home cooked bread was delicious. I will certainly look forward to coming here again.

Review 12:Whether the decor is your own personal taste is up to you but you will have an opinion. Breakfast was good but dinner excellent - and mildly adventurous.

Review 13:Stayed for one night in the Mayan room. The views from our room were amazing and it was nicely decorated. Location is great, just a short distance from the main restaurants. John was very nice to us, he help me to organize a small surprise for my girlfriend.... we really enjoyed our time in Ferndale B&B and will definitely come back. You can see that John and his familly really enjoy what they are doing and they look into the detail. He was talking to us about the new ideas for the B&B. And breakfast was probably one of the best I have ever had! highly recommended!

Review 14:Nothing

Review 15:This pace is unique, somewhat different from a standard B&B. The furnishings are "exotic". We stayed in the "Mayan Treasure Bay" room which had view through the window which would beat that of 99% of B&Bs. It had a wonderful carved wooden floor, with lovely rugs and a very comfortable bed the likes of which i have never seen before. The bathroom was of very high quality. Breakfast - well it took several minutes to read the menu which ranged from crepes, through scrambled eggs with smoked salmon to full Irish - excellent! The owners are very friendly and efficient. We particularly liked this touch. You don't get a kettle, teabags etc. in your room; you ring the bell and a tray with a freshly brewed pot of tea and china cups is delivered together with a couple of delicious Swiss chocolates!

Review 16:Just tiny little improvement idea, it would be lovely to be able to make tea, or coffee in the room. The freshly made tastes better, for sure, however, one doesn't want to trouble the host all the time. Thank you!

Review 17:The room/ Venice suite was clean and the furniture very unique. It had a feeling of a castle, with a bath tub in the room, windows overlooking the garden and the beach. The bed was so comfy we didn't want to get up at all. As a welcome-treat we were served coffee with lovely pralinés. The choice at breakfast made us consider to stay at least a week there to try all the dishes ;-) . My mexican omlet was delicious! Heidi, Jon and Alex are perfect hosts, friendly, humorous, and try to make your holiday on Achill memorable! Thank's again and hopefully till next year!

Review 18:This accommodation is a real gem. Perfect location for our roaradventure race. Breakfast room overlooking Keel beach. Plenty of varietyon menu. Owners were very attentive & friendly. We stayed in themedieval quarter. Very quirky room with all mod cons and superdlycomfortable bed. Will definitely stay again and check out one of theother themed rooms.

Review 19:John and Alex were very cool and welcoming. The themes were cool and the breakfast was very good. It is a different but welcoming bed and breakfast which has to be experienced at their reasonable pricing.

Review 20:The setting had fantastic ambience, great room with impressive details and comfort - we felt more than friends than guests thanks to the very warm welcome and attention to every request. The breakfast was the best we have ever had (particularly as the rump steak with the eggs benedictine actually turned out to be two generous slices of very tender fillet steak :-) ....!) and every corner of the house offered a fantastic setting. Our only regret is that we did not have our dinner here....But we will be back! Thank you for a fantastic experience!

Review 21:My experience was not good at all. Luxury for me is great attention tothe details, but they understand that just some exotic furniture crowdedin a room is enough. The common areas of the house are just old thingshalf covered with velvety fabric. I found 3 white hairs in a single bowlof fruit for breakfast. In my opinion hugely overpriced place

Review 22:It is clear that the owners are making an effort to have a differentB&B, but in my opinion they have get totally lost

Review 23:The room and view was exceptional and there was a great selection of breakfast options also. Staff were very helpful with organising day or evening activities for us.

Review 24:Bedrooms can only be described as absolutely amazing every comfort considered !! Jacuzzi 42 inch tv blu ray dvd player and absolutely excellent menu what more could you want .

Review 25:John and the staff at Ferndale were very accommodating and hospitable and made our short stay here (after a long cycle on the greenway ) very comfortable and relaxing. The rooms are just fantastic and the service is excellent. Just to note for anyone with small children they only accept older children (over 12). The breakfast the next morning was just to die for !. Myself and my partner will be back here again for sure !

Review 26:John and the rest of the staff were simply amazing. From making a restaurant recommendation (and reservation) to the fantastic breakfast, this stay was perfect.

Review 27:No negatives

Review 28:Top quality all round; bedrooms, exotic and imaginative décor, great food both breakfast and dinner, great service, cleanliness and friendliness. Great views from most bedrooms

Review 29:The shower acted up on the 2nd day, hot and cold!!

Review 30:Lovely room, we stayed in the Roman room. Bed was extremely comfy, breakfasts were lovely, we even dined there one of the evenings. Amazeballs!!

Review 31:John and all the staff at Ferndale were so friendly and accommodating. Rooms were fantastic and view from breakfast room was incredible. Dinner there is a must.b

Review 32:This is a first-class B&B in a really beautiful location - just up the hill from a lively and welcoming pub. Our room was spotless and very imaginatively furnished. The staff were especially friendly and helpful - and breakfast, in particular, was spectacularly good.

Review 33:Our hosts were wonderful and couldn't have been more helpful...and entertaining. The rooms were extremely comfortable, in particular the Mayan Room, which has a fantastic view. Breakfast was amazing and plentiful and we also enjoyed an evening meal there, which was an absolute culinary delight.Thank you to everyone at Ferndale for making our stay on Achill Island so memorable. We would not hesistate to recommend this B & B to anyone, although I do think it is best suited to adults travelling alone or with older children, as they would really appreciate Ferndale's excellence.

Review 34:Breakfast - everything cooked and baked to order. Freshly squeezed orange juice. Heidi's special meusli, a wide choice on the menu with variations permitted, even encouraged. Coupled with the superb view of the Minaun Cliffs across Keel Bay this is a unique B&B experience.

Review 35:Everything, 2nd time here and will go again. Great location, very warm and genuine welcome. Always available for coffee or tea etc and very knowledgeable about local area activities and places to visit. Would highly recommend The secret garden .

Review 36:Nothing. It was fantastic.

Review 37:The amazing accommodation! such care with detail, the creative decor - it was an experience we will never forget. The staff were attentive, nothing was to much trouble. They obviously love providing comfort for their clients.

Review 38:Sehr freundliche Gastgeber mit leckerem Essen. Eines ist sicher - ich werde zum Wiederholungstäter bei zukünftigen Buchungen und kann dieses B&B wärmstens empfehlen.

Review 39:First impressions we're great. Out side not very impressive. Jon was sitting out in the garden so very casually dressed.

Review 40:Rooms were unique, but Ferndale much more than quirky rooms. Breakfast was amazing. Jon was very helpful & kind with a strange sense of humour The sun shone which helped.

Review 41:We had a wonderful stay at Ferndale accommodation. Our 'Arabian Nights' themed room was really unique and beautiful and the bed was so comfortable. The best part of our stay though was the breakfast which was top class, our hosts whipped us up the best eggs benedict I've ever tasted. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Review 42:Only the one thing. The industrial strength puffer that continually filled the room with pungent "air freshener".

Review 43:The two breakfasts we had were totally delicious and beautifully presented. The breakfast room had wonderful views.

Review 44:We stayed 3 nights. The breakfasts were delicious. The chocolates with the tea each night were a treat. Alex was very helpful. The area is very tranquil.

Review 45:Love the rooms got to see all rooms that are on offer loved each one will definitely go back owners very very nice couldn't have done enough for us. Even my 4yr old wanted to stay another night xxx

Review 46:John and Alex are most attentive hosts without being intrusive.Their wish is that you enjoy the whole experience of Ferndale. They have set out to change the travellers perspective on B&B is and achieved this aim in some style. The oppulent decadence of the themed suites may at first glance seem OTT to some but that IS the attraction.Great food in luxury surroundings and the rugged beauty of Achill.A perfect way to spend a few days relaxing. Thanks John and Alex. We loved it.

Review 47:The venue is unique - decorated to the highest standard. No lack of imagination - both rooms we saw were absolutely amazing and the one we stayed in was just perfect! The breakfast was just out of this world! Great selection, great quality and taste! Breakfast alone was worth the price of the whole stay! And the hosts are absolutely great - they go out of their way to please their guests! Highly recommend it!

Review 48:Everything. This isn't a B&B, it's an experience. Why stay in a boring run of the mill hotel when you can stay here? This isn't like staying in someone's house either. There's a gorgeous breakfast & dinner menu (even the locals eat dinner here) & some bedrooms have own door access for more privacy. The owners Jon & Alex are helpful without being overbearing and we even got a free upgrade on our second night! All in all, very highly recommended. Thanks for everything!

Review 49:Would have liked private tea facilities in the room, stayed 3 nights, we were offered tea but would be nicer in the room or a tea making area in the hall for all room use...then you could make it when it suits the guest..

Review 50:Friendly owners, very comfortable beds, nice bathroom, free wifi, nice choice for breakfast, small walk from keel village, helpful ordering taxi when required

Review 51:Our stay.was.amazing from the moment we.arrived jon and alex were there for anything we needed. What lovely hosts and what an amazing place to stay cant wait to go back

Review 52:I had a not-great piece of bacon. That was the only thing I could find fault with!

Review 53:Customer service is top notch. You are made to feel welcome, there is no real pressure at Ferndale. The team are flexible and friendly, with lots of local info. Passionate about service and food. Eat at the restaurant at least one night to enjoy food prepared by an experienced, professional chef. Excellent quality. Try contacting Ferndale by phone directly, before booking, they are happy to help out.

Review 54:The only thing would be that Achill Island can be quiet at certain times of the year, so places to eat / drink are limited.

Review 55:The most comfy bed I've ever slept in, one of the best meals I've ever had, and the most helpful and friendly staff I've ever encountered. Don't let the slightly odd decorating put you off - you will not find a nicer place to stay. And it's not really a B&B as much as it's a boutique hotel. Amazing.

Review 56:Lighting to main entrance and Venetian room needs a little improvement. It's hard to see all the signage when darkness falls.

Review 57:We stayed in the Venetian room on New Years Eve as a treat. We weren't disappointed. My partner who lives nearby, has been singing Ferndale's praises for a few years now without having stayed as an overnight guest, so it was time to experience it first hand. Jon's hosting skills were marvellous; as was his ability to translate some Germanic phrases we couldn't quite figure out. Forefathers, indeed - how right you are. Jon's offer for guidance on furniture restoration will be taken up. Dinner was an extravagance; mains interspersed with amuse-bouches, all of which tingled the taste buds. Breakfast on New Years Day broke my first resolution of the new year; I cleared my plate. Scrumptious. Now, I understand all the high scores and top notch reviews I've been reading and endorse them whole-heartedly.

Review 58:What an experience! John and staff at the Ferndale made our new years one we will never forget. The service is impeccable, the food was fabulous and our room was spotless. We had a gorgeous view to top it all off. Thanks John, we will be back for sure!

Review 59:the weather!

Review 60:the comfort,,the fact that it didn't seem like you were in a bed and breakfest. Don't be fooled by the title, it's a hotel with a difference, the two lads go out of their way for you. The food was amazing, a seven course dinner. The breakfest was like a five star hotel, not like your normal hotel never mind a bed and breakfest. A real gem, I will be back in the summer!

Review 61:The room was beautiful, cosy and comfortable. Breakfasts were delicious in a relaxed dining room, overlooking the waves on Keel beach. The substantial but healthy dinners are gourmet food at its best, We have to complement the consistently exceptional cooking, and were very pleased by the three lovely wines we tried. The whole house is brilliantly decorated for Halloween. Having prepaid the room, the food and wine bill was very reasonable for the standard cheerfully provided. We will be back.

Review 62:The best B&B we've stayed in in Ireland. As an Irish couple we have stayed in a fair few. If you're staying, make sure to eat in the restaurant too because the food is outstanding. On top of all that it was cheap (September).

Review 63:Great, really welcoming hosts. The rooms we stayed in was spotlessly clean, spacious. I had the full Irish Breakfast and it was really good, the view from the bay windows overlooking Keem beach was magnificent and made it a spectacular breakfast. Would definitely stay again.

Review 64:There was nothing I didn't like about Ferndale.

Review 65:Breakfast was really good with an excellent menu all prepared fresh. Rooms are a bit quirkey but very comfortable. We had the Chinese room with a super shower. Spotlessly clean. Excellent WiFi and great selection of TV programs. Staff were extremely friendly nothing was a bother.

Review 66:The air freshener in the bathroom was set to spray automatically at set intervals and it was overbearing! The stay would have been more comfortable without it.

Review 67:The rooms were beautifully decorated. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, we wish we had made dinner arrangements.

Review 68:We just wish we could have stayed longer.Next time. Thanks for such a memorable experience

Review 69:Unique experience in every way, beautiful themed room with private entrance.Extraordinary menu with mouthwatering dishes similar to any 5 * hotel, breakfast to die for so many choices.Eggs benedict a delight.Warm hospitable helpful owner who caters for every need.Highly recommend. Will be back. Can't imagine any other establishment with 5* status living up to these standards. The ambiance, creativity and imagination that went into the loving formation of Ferndale was well worth it.A little piece of Heaven.

Review 70:nothing.

Review 71:We received a great welcome, great interaction with owners, giving us a lot of information on the area. Delicious food. I would definitely recommend staying there...

Review 72:we did not ask for a sea view and will do so the next time.

Review 73:the thought that went into the different themed rooms the excellent breakfast with plenty of choices.

Review 74:Loved everything about the Ferndale The room with sea view "breathtaking" The bed "so comfy" Dinner and Breakfast delicious . Jon and staff very professional warm and friendly . Will visit again .

Review 75:My boyfriend and I headed to Achill for a romantic weekend away. Theweather was awful, but our stay was made very memorable by the mostamazing B&B I’ve ever stayed in. Ferndale is located very centrally, and is finished to a very high standard. Jon and Alex greeted us onarrival, and informed us of the best places to visit, and of places toeat. We stayed in the Arabian Nights room, which is simply beautiful, and set the scene for our lovely getaway break. The bed was so comfythat our arrival “nap” lasted almost 4 hours. The toblerone on thebedside table was a very nice touch to a chocolate lover such as myself!Breakfast was amazing. Yes, you could go for the full Irish if you wantto do “the usual”, or you could choose from the diverse list of homemadefeasts. Not one, but 2 types of eggs benedict. The portions were justright, and with the gorgeous homemade breads and the most amazingscones, set us up nicely for the day. Mueslis and fruits also available. After brekkie, Jon asked if we wanted anything else, not in that robotic“can I get you anything else” manner – he was serious about it andwanted to make sure we were well fed! My boyfriend, having a hollow leg, asked for the French toast. I had half – amazing! That evening, weheaded off for something to eat. The evening before, we had got out toolate and missed the cut off for food at the pub (we’d only wantedsimple). So on our second evening, Jon offered to phone ahead to booksomewhere, and even said to come back to him if we didn’t find somewhereand he’d rustle something up for us. How lovely! Jon and Alex simplycouldn’t do enough for us. We did come back, but after eating, and justto drop the car back. We headed down to the pub, and their dog evenescorted us  Jon had told us that they were closing for a week forrenovations, and the morning of our departure, he offered us a tour ofthe rooms as all but one were now vacant.

Review 76:Absolutely unique. We had the beautiful Chinese room. Jon, Alex, Heidi and the staff made our stay very special. Food was exceptional both for breakfast and evening meal. Achill Island is spectacular and the people very friendly. This was a truly memorable stay.

Review 77:Tea facilities missing, you can get hot drinks but sometime you just want to feel free to do it yourself whenever you want

Review 78:The view over the bay is really pleasant. The breakfast is really cared for, the Ferndale Benedictine Eggs were perfectly prepared with a home made cheese scone to die for and so is the soda bread! Probably the best had in Ireland!

Review 79:The attention to detail was very impressive. It is clear how much the owners really enjoy running this B&B. We had a great laugh with the cleaning ladies also as we were checking out and they do a fantastic job as the room are absolutely spotless. Really enjoyed how Jon and the staff are so friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious and we felt very welcome here.

Review 80:Didn't realise had to order dinner 24 hrs in advance, but this was my fault. On entering room, was hit by overpowering smell of bathroom cleaner which was a bit off-putting. Could have asked for different room, but was tired and more anxious about finding somewhere for dinner which the guys immediately arranged so we got fed!

Review 81:Nice owners, friendly, great breakfast. They really try to ensure your comfort and enjoyment even towards the end of a very long season for them.

Review 82:nothing

Review 83:This place is a real treasure. Great location. Good food in lovely restaurant overlooking the Minaun Cliffs. Comfortable room and nice bathroom. I would strongly recommend to anyone in search for peace and harmony .Dear Jon, Thank you for your hospitality,I delighted to stay with you.

Review 84:Everything ! Great mini-suite with king size bed, very well equipped, extremely clean and spacious. Very comfortable. Excellent welcome. Great breakfast. Magnificent view. Great location. Definitely the best B&B we've ever been !

Review 85:Tea and coffee making facilities would have been a bonus but, upon arrival we were presented with beautiful coffee and chocolates.

Review 86:There was a mix up on the booking which was my fault and the owners couldn't have been more understanding. We had a suite with a fabulous view over Keel bay, the quality of the room was better than most hotels I've stayed in. The breakfast was a generous feast, with a luxurious variety. An experience worth having ,10/10 we will be back.

Review 87:Maybe a little pricey - but for us it was worth it.

Review 88:This is a very special place. Not your regular Irish B&B! Beautifully eccentric rooms and a really top class breakfast. Great views of the island, 3 mins walk to the nearest pub. Worth staying here for a night - an experience.

Review 89:The guys looked after our nearly blind aunt and catered for my dairy free diet brilliantly - food and ambience outstanding! Brilliant hosts - had a great time!!

Review 90:- The decor (but that's just a matter of personal taste) - Wifi a bit shaky, worked sometimes

Review 91:- The staff! Owners + dinner servant (best attitude we've ever encountered) - Breakfast! Extensive menu, made to order. A lot of food... - Dinner - good food and a lot of it too, plus a lot of extras like appetizer, apperitif etc - Beds and and duvets - Small but important things to make you feel welcome: Toblerone on the bed stand, complimentary Pellegrino water in the room - Huge TV with USB contact so we could watch movies from our external hard drive - We could borrow their two dogs and take them for a walk on the beach

Review 92:A small point mentioned for guidance only. The small bar had a strong 'foody' odour about it which put wifey off it a bit. The dining room was made available to us for a pre prandial. It had a lovely view over the beach as well. Suggest test the exhaust ventilation on the cooker/kitchen

Review 93:very amusing and fun personnel. Nothing too much trouble. Well appointed themed rooms. Excellent, innovative breakfast- we did not get the opportunity to test dinner as we booked in for one night only. Keen to test Jon's expertise as a chef.

Review 94:I had relatively high expectations for the property based on the images and the reviews. Somehow, those expectations were vastly exceeded. From the amazing breakfast (fresh fruit, amazing local smoked salmon, fresh eggs, fresh squeezed juice, delicious jam with bread, and delightful coffee) to the amazing view from our room, everything was fantastic. Jon was a delight to chat with and he provided some great suggestions on sightseeing in the area. There are laminated walking maps/guides in the room to help you explore Achill. Our only lament was that we did not book a longer stay. I will be going back to Ferndale in part because Achill is so amazingly beautiful, but also because of the facility. We stayed in the Mayan room, and everything about it was impeccably put together. Our vacation was two and a half weeks, and we stayed in some great properties, but this was by far our best stay.

Review 95:My stay wasn't long enough.

Review 96:Honestly the best B&B I have ever stayed in. The setting was gorgeous, food was delicious, Jon and Alex were lovely hosts and very welcoming and accommodating. My favourite thing about it was the room - the room was incredible. So much attention and love had been into it, luxury doesn't even cover it. I can't wait to go back and would definitely recommend it as a place to stay!!!

Review 97:Beautiful view from the terrace to the beach.Delicious breakfast.Quiet and peaceful place.Nice and helpful staff.Beautiful view from the dining room.High standard.100% recomend this B&B ...

Review 98:The rooms were very original in their design. I also liked the shower which had a device to play music. I had one of the best nights sleep whilst on holidayThe staff were very friendly.

Review 99:Excellent location and excellent food. The bedroom decor was amazing and extremely comfortable. Very large TV in the bedroom and the bed had a memory foam mattress. Fantastic staff who go the extra mile to make you feel welcome. Planning our next visit already!

Review 100:This is and excellent place to stay. The staff are really good and the rooms are beautiful.

Review 101:Lovely rooms, superb food, helpful and passionate staff, good location

Review 102:Upgraded to a beautiful suite and it had a magnificent sea view!!

Review 103:We liked everything about this place.

Review 104:Food selection and choice was excellent. Bed very very comfy, rooms have excelent view of sea and mountains..

Review 105:Great staff, great food and good location close to Keel Beach

Review 106:Loved the atmosphere, this place is special. Looking forward to returning. The views are stunning, Choose one of the sea view rooms
