Reviews for Grand Hotel Cadenabbia

Review 1:We would like to have a choice of an a la carte menu for the dinner. The balcony, although with the view onto the lake, was quite dirty and was never cleaned during our stay.

Review 2:Excellent location, clean room, comfortable bed, excellent breakfast.

Review 3:It seems to be the comment thing that Italian hotel doesn't provide kettle/tea, coffee facility. I really like to have a cup of coffee or tea 1st thing in the morning.

Review 4:Excellent location on the quite side of lake, bus stop right in front of hotel, water taxi not even 50m away.

Review 5:The gardens could probably do with a bit of tidying. The swimming pool was too cold to swim in. We booked into the restaurant for one meal and found what was possibly the only grumpy member of staff, missed our dessert due to staff clearing away and readying for the next days breakfast. We paid €90 including wine for a very hurried 2 course meal which was substandard for the price.

Review 6:Loved the rooftop terrace and bar overlooking the lake, the stunning location on the lakeside with a room with a balcony you can sit out. The sheer grandeur of the place was amazing. Loved the artwork and sculptures internal decoration. Beautiful grand hotel.

Review 7:On the morning of arrival, we were informed that the room with balcony and lake view, which was the only reason we went there, (otherwise, I would have booked a similar room in another hotel) was suddenly unavailable, even though it was confirmed by the hotel in May! The hotel gave a refund of a paltry €20 per day and a free dinner (which was mediocre). Worse, they allocated a "garden view" room in what seemed to be the basement, small, dark, damp and malodorous, with the fire escape adjacent to the single, narrow window, which looked onto and was level with the driveway, which was at mid- window level, the room being below the level of the driveway. The room did have an adequate bathroom. When I complained, they dis-simulated. Fortunately, booking.com intervened, so the hotel allocated another room on a higher floor, still overlooking the parking area, but at least it had two windows and three beds, so we had a bit more room. Fortunately, we are both small people, so we could use the liliputian bathroom, albeit with difficulty. The unsatisfactory nature of their compensation was highlighted later in the trip, when two other hotels did not have the room we booked. In both of those cases, the management arranged alternate, in fact superior accommodation in adjacent hotels.

Review 8:It is conveniently located to ferries. However, challenging to get to by road, due to narrowness of the road between Como and Grianti. The buffet breakfast provided is about 3/5, so quite good. I must admit that the staff were courteous and cooperative.

Review 9:The hotel and the rooms were cold

Review 10:Great location very close to nice towns such as Menaggio and very convenient transfer options to Como center and Bellagio

Review 11:We were given a tiny bedroom, which was very basic. There was no balcony. We travelled with our dog. The staff were not very friendly.

Review 12:Location was good.

Review 13:early in the morning you can heard in the room like water coming down the walls. there was live music in our same floor till 11 pm.

Review 14:the view at breakfast time

Review 15:No English watchable TV channels. No wi-fi in the rooms only lounge area. Parking is a joke so not a problem for coach tours. Air con close to bed a loud if high so only a problem if it's hot.

Review 16:Location ok. Very large grand hotel but now geared for the budget market.

Review 17:Big stain on the carpet near elevator. Elevator did not work too well. Staff ok but not overly friendly. Decor was incongruent in the lobby. Air conditioning did not work very well.

Review 18:Good Location

Review 19:The restaurant only served a set menu at €35 per head which seemed rather steep so we didn't bother. Breakfast was ok.

Review 20:Fantastic location. Nice pool and rooftop bar/restaurant with amazing views over Como to Bellagio. Rooms pretty good value and comfortable.

Review 21:False description on booking.com site, or at least extremely ambiguous. There is a rooftop terrace with dodgy old timber boards but there is absolutely NOT a rooftop pool - it is out the back down 2 levels accessed via a sloping rough path. No service is available by the pool and no drinks or food are able to be taken to that area. extremely disappointing... Ruined our holiday. Honesty would be the best policy - let travelers make a decision based on the facts of what the hotel actually offers, not advertising spin.

Review 22:Breakfast was substantial and the staff pleasant. Tables were cleared promptly.

Review 23:If I had to find a negative it would be that the swimming pool and surrounding lounge area could do with revamping. It was still very usable but not as plush as the rest of the hotel.

Review 24:Beautiful old hotel with a grand lobby and very very comfortable beds. The staff were superb; among the best I've experienced in hotels all around the world. The hotel wifi is excellent, even in the bedrooms, and is free. The location is good if you want a quiet relaxing break in breathtaking surroundings but still wish to explore. We took in Bellagio and Varenna by the very regular ferry service across the Lake. Ferry stops are within a couple of minutes walk of the hotel. There are not many restaurants for dinner close by, however, this is more than made up for by the quality of those that are. We went to Ristorante Isola twice.

Review 25:Internet in the room was not good. Could only be used just inside the door. Breakfast the same every morning and only average.

Review 26:We got a bigger room with a bigger balconing than we booked and paid for. That was really nice. It was a junior suite. The balcony was fantastic with great views over Lake Como.

Review 27:Slow wi-fi

Review 28:Breakfast at the roof terrace with the most beautiful view, pool area, terrace bar, wonderful location for making ferry trips to different places at Como

Review 29:We booked 6 rooms for 12 people through Booking.com months in advance. All 6 rooms were to have Lake Como views and were guaranteed by credit card. We received confirmation of our rooms from Booking.com 5 days before our arrival. We got to the hotel at approximately 6 pm on our scheduled day of arrival and the hotel had given 5 of our 6 rooms with a view away to other guests. Needless to say, we were very disappointed in the hotel's decision not to honor our "guaranteed" reservation.

Review 30:The location of the hotel is good.

Review 31:Attitude of management, tired looking, needs complete update and customer focus needs to be vastly improved, eg breakfast finishes too early, furniture moved at unreasonably early and late hours, why?

Review 32:Ethel view and location

Review 33:We chose the hotel for the nice location and took two suites as a family travelling with two kids. Via Booking.com we requested a connecting door or rooms next to eachother. Our request was completeley ignored prior to the arrival. Upon arrival we were told that there were noch such rooms. According to their policy children under 12 were not allowed to stay in the room on their own. There is no description of this on Booking.com! We were then put up in a small suite with a coach to unfold. We never got the money back for one room with the reason that we had chosen a prebooked rate. There wasn't even a reaction to our Email to the manager. What a lousy customer service!

Review 34:The location

Review 35:The car park was a bit disorganised. It could accommodate far more vehicles if it were properly levelled and marked so that users didn't park in such a random manner.

Review 36:Beautiful location and views across the lake to Bellagio from our balcony. Our room was spacious with good, well controlled air conditioning. the huge bathroom appeared to be brand new.

Review 37:No bad experience as such but carpets not as plush as they used to be, windows in need of a good clean. Bathroom not very practical (no shelves, only one hook for towels/ dressing gowns) and sink cracked. Ok but all a bit tired looking. Dinner in the restaurant was decent enough but I'm not sure I would want to eat there every night.

Review 38:Very good location on the lake with public transport (ferry/bus) nearby. Terrace with tables and sunloungers a lovely place to relax. Restaurant has amazing views.

Review 39:It's a big hotel. If many rooms are occupied, then the restaurant can be busy. This isn't a small family hotel where lots of Italians go. It's a grand hotel with large groups of tourists. The visitors when we were there were mainly older (English) people, although we wonder why there aren't more younger people attracted to this hotel.

Review 40:The hotel has a bar, restaurant and rooftop terrace on the 4th and 5th floor. There is a 180° degree view on the Lake in front of Bellagio. I could spend hours there. The breakfast buffet is definitely something to look out for. The hotel feels like the grandeur from old times, but is kept up to date. The rooms are big. I would recommend lake view rooms though.

Review 41:One evening there was a wedding and the noise of the band playing til after midnight was very annoying. Perhaps check if there are any weddings going on... it seems Lake Como is the ideal location for weddings.

Review 42:As we got off the bus from Como, waiting outside to cross the road to go into the hotel, the friendly staff came out to help us with our bags crossing the road. Really nice staff and the location was spectacular. We had a lake view room as well which was beautiful. Very convenient to get to the other villages on the lake and right beside Villa Carlotta with a view of the spectacular gardens there. I would definitely stay here again.

Review 43:Do not under any circumstances have dinner at the hotel. The breakfast is rather un-inspired too. The dinning room is like a 1970's cruise ship with worse food.

Review 44:The hotel is in a great location with fantastic views. The rooftop bar is great. If you like faded big old luxury hotels this is for you.

Review 45:This hotel is all class. Beautiful spot on the lake and fantastic restaurant. Staff were excellent and the fact we were up graded to a suite was fantastic. If you stay here you have to get a balcony room it's worth it.

Review 46:The bed was hard as a rock, the wifi was nonexistent and the street noise was very bad. The bathrooms had no way to hang a towel nor use a shelf for toiletries.

Review 47:The room was gorgeous, the staff was helpful and the location was nice. The breakfast was average.

Review 48:Booked the suite with lake view but what we got was one square room, bed on an angle across the corner with toilet, bath, sink behind it. It had one chair, did have a balcony though!

Review 49:Very crowded with older British tourists. Located too far from como town. We booked there because it had a pool- pool was far from other parts of the hotel and freezing. Not given interconnecting rooms, had to split our family.

Review 50:Breakfast included

Review 51:The first room we got was like a college dorm, very small. Had to pay 20euro's per day extra for a better room Dinner was terrible. Had toget a new wifi passwoprd every 4 hours

Review 52:Breakfast Pool View of lake

Review 53:Our room seemed to be incompletely decorated. Wi fi in the room was bad - but OK elsewhere in the hotel. The other person travelling with us had a bright lake side room which was wonderful - a small balcony, with lovely views.

Review 54:Location was excellent - close to ferries, mini train, shops, restaurants, neighbouring Villa Carlotta, fantastic views, including direct view of Bellagio. Pleasant breakfast - English, Continental & pastries & cereals etc. Lovely roof terrace/bar. Nice pool. Suited our needs to a T.

Review 55:No decent fruit juice at breakfast. All sweetened stuff tasting like the syrup drained from tinned fruit. Wifi did not quite reach our room, and needed a new password avery 4 hours.

Review 56:Nice, quiet swimming pool area at the back of the hotel. Roof terrace area off the bar (4th floor, sometimes live music). Dining room is also high up (5th floor), so there are good views and you can eat outside if you want. We only had breakfast in the hotel.

Review 57:Breakfast was poor for such a hotel. Pool small and a bit of a hike. Meals for dinner only set menu. Inside parking very tight. TV and wifi reception poor

Review 58:Had two lake facing rooms - excellent...and I mean excellent view (though one did not have a roof and it rained). Both junior suites - very stylish and classy. One room had a bathroom on the 2nd floor - which was challenging for elderly guests. Entrance classy. One great front desk staff. Wonderful hotel if you really want to feel the charm and grace of a bygone era.

Review 59:needs to have a fan up on the loft area in the junior suite. TV needs HD, but wasn't there for the to watch it.

Review 60:the view breakfast pool room what cool-for an older hotel had creator. lobby

Review 61:Poor internet connection Room was not serviced on two occasions in the evening Not all toiletries were replenished when used in the bathroom Unsafe slope down to pool - I slipped and hurt myself.

Review 62:Location Suite Quality of furnishings Large balcony Towels by pool

Review 63:The buffet at 35 € was not replenished when things ran out. Also booking.com wrote satellite tv and there wasn't. The reception was terrible. Breakfast was not that good for a four star hotel. The furniture in the room was dated.

Review 64:The balcony on the 4th and 5th floors was spectacular. Bathroom in the room was spacious and modern.

Review 65:The hotel is tired. It's on it's last legs. The decor in room 100 is the worst that I have ever experienced

Review 66:The staff were very helpful and the hotel is near the ferry

Review 67:The location!

Review 68:Breakfast

Review 79:Location was fine, staff, facilities worn but very comfortable...staff was excellent

Review 80:The color of the room was a little off putting. A semi neon green.

Review 81:Large comfortable room and balcony

Review 82:room was a little dated and small

Review 84:Restaurant menu

Review 85:Staff were very nice and freindly

Review 87:The location was excellent and the rooms all had views of the lake.

Review 88:Fantastic view from our balcony and roof terrace

Review 89:We loved our stay here. Really warm, feel good experience, staff, premises, views.

Review 90:We spent the evening of our wedding there, the staff did everything possible to make our stay as special as possible

Review 91:None

Review 92:The terrace, the swimming pool and the location were fantastic. We found the staff to be polite and helpful.

Review 93:The elevator going too slowly.

Review 94:The brekfast on the top,the great view, surrounding, the comfort, everything was great.

Review 95:Bad wifi access in the room

Review 96:none

Review 97:large rooms, quiet, comfy beds, helpful staff.

Review 98:Location on lake

Review 99:Wifi was hard to use and very slow

Review 100:Everyone was really friendly and hyelpful

Review 101:Liked everything!

Review 102:!Views Room Location Breakfast Service

Review 103:parking

Review 104:Everything except parking

Review 105:Place was perfect, staff could not do enough. Best hotel I have stayed in and will defiantly be returning

Review 106:There was smell in every part of the hotel

Review 107:Location was excellent

Review 108:Too quite breakfast not very good tea/coffee cold.no entertainment at nite

Review 109:nice sun deck great views. Rooms were good

Review 110:not enough amenities through the day afternoon tea would have been nice or facilities in room

Review 111:roof terrace and swimming pool

Review 112:Great hotel, staff, food. Rooms clean with great views over the lake. Easy access to Bellagio on Ferry.

Review 113:The staff in the dining room. At night, we had just sat down and we were asked what we wanted to order. Both at night and at breakfast the staff didn't smile or make eye contact. They appeared very unhappy with their jobs.

Review 114:The room was lovely and having a balcony was very special looking out over the lake.

Review 115:I could not rate this hotel as I have booked this hotel one month before our arrival through this website. When we arrived at the hotel, they said they have no room for us due to the problem of their reservation system. Although they arranged another hotel with larger room and balcony, the unblocked 180 degree lake view of Grand Hotel Cadenabbia is no longer exisited. Our room has limited lake view and blocked by many giant tree! We felt very disappointed!

Review 116:Overall you were just a number. I felt the staff were unattentive and the service overall to be very laboured-as of they didn't want to be there. Breakfast was very poor. Items were not replenished at 9:30 with still 30 minutes to go. Tables unlaid. Car park was poorly mapped out. The gravel at the entrance made the car swerve- dangerous. Too many older people for a young couple. Too many coach parties. It didn't have the Italian regality I was looking for or that I had in my first hotel in Laglia during my first 4 nights in Italy.

Review 117:I thought the bathroom was clean and the shower very powerful

Review 118:I wish the bar and coffee area was open more as I would have liked a cup of tea or coffee after a day out and before getting ready for dinner

Review 119:the swimming pool and sun loungers and towels the bell boy was so helpful and couldn't do enough for us

Review 120:The breakfast was very poor the hotel was obviously used for many coach tours which means they probably offer competitively priced rooms so the standard of breakfast was served accordingly having paid the full price for a 4* room the standard was very average the fruit juice was not freeshly squeezed only one toasting machine for all guests which topped 75 people at times. It was day 4 before there was a fruit youghurt up till then it was just plain. The actual fruit was just tinned peaches and pineapples every morning. The bread selection was just nasty white sliced and chopped up french stick. The breakfast cereals were of a very cheap quality and when tried with the warm milk where found to be stale. You could never get a teapot to make your own tea. There was also no variety at all to the hot and cold food.

Review 121:The location was excellent very local to all amenities including the piers for the boat trips. Our room was very good but we did have the top of the range suite so would expect this.

Review 122:Poor reception area and considering the hotel size insufficient staff dealing with reception queeries

Review 123:Excellent situation and close to local facilities.

Review 124:Dinner menu was limited, probably because we were there in April.

Review 125:Location on lake como was best feature. We had a corner room with great views of the lake and the nearby gardens.

Review 126:the service and attention do detail were excellent the room was first class and the staff could not have done enough to please you while we were there my wife took ill and the receptionist arranged for a doctor to call she attended the visit and translated for us and the doctor i would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to one and all thanks to all the staff and management Keith McBean

Review 127:The location is okay, I should have done my homework more because there aren't many great restaurants within walking distance. Also, the restaurant dinner menu was very limited when we went so we were disappointed since we heard people rave about the food-wish they had more options.

Review 128:I loved the staff. They were very friendly and helped me and my boyfriend out with our thousands of questions-there were always someone at the desk to help us. I loved the views, room with a balcony is a must.

Review 129:No waiter service at breakfast

Review 130:The location and views are spectacular. It is a beautiful Italian hotel with classic charm and lovely facilities. Concierge are very helpful in assisting with bookings and advice.

Review 131:The actual restaurant was a disappointing experience.the buffet style breakfast and dinner was at best poorly run as there was a shortage of most foods offered and the restocking was slow or non-existence.

Review 132:The room we had was Beautiful & Elegant, the view's from the balcony were stunning. The hotel has a nice relaxed vibe and the staff were very pleasant. The location is excellent for both views of Bellagio and the ferries across the lake.

Review 133:-internet is very very bad -rooms look old and not very clean (dust in every corner). -keep away from room 127 (it's smaller than shoe box). -Other then that ok location and ok price

Review 134:location and breakfast is very very good. Also nice pool where to relax.

Review 135:Internet access was terrible Hotel was run down, damage unrepaired First room was moldy Food seemed institutional Staff overwhelmed

Review 136:hotel staff were friendly view was spectacular location is excellent
