Reviews for Palace Hotel San Michele
Review 1:Pool in photo was closed even though weather in September was still warm. We had to use the spa pool which didn't open until 4:00 PM each day.
Review 2:Easy location to find - lots of free parking. Fantastic view. Spa facility was good, but hours of operation should be expanded.
Review 3:The bedroom tv was difficult to operate (was not that bothered really). The car park to the hotel had no space but not really a problem as there's a very large pay for car park next door (cost £3 per day) so all ok
Review 4:I liked the fact that I got a room with a balcony and a beautiful view. The pool was stunning with lovely white comfortable lounges and wonderful view of the mountains below. The breakfast was brilliant too and served in a lovely breakfast room with stunning views. Service was alround, fabalous
Review 5:The general decor is dated and dark, very 80s. There was no fridge in the room which we didn't expect in a 4* hotel. General maintenance in the room wasn't up to scratch. the plug didn't fit in the plughole not ideal when my husband was trying to shave, tiles were broken round fittings in the bathroom, there was a crack right through the mirror.
Review 6:The pool area was lovely even though the pool wasn't heated, the location was perfect for visiting the town with stunning views. Lots of restaurants to choose from.
Review 7:Excellent location with stunning views. You need read the information on the web-site. It is not near the beach. The service is excellent as are the staff and facilities.
Review 8:Beds were a bit too firm but there was very little not to like.
Review 9:The pool has incredible views and lots of space, five minutes walk from St Michaels cave. Rooms were spacious with big private balcony. Great for a quiet retreat in an adorably quInt town.
Review 10:We arrived 3hrs early before check-in which we knew, wandered around town, came back because it was so hot, sat in foyer/bar for 2 hrs. No-one came near us to update us on check-in, & by 3pm they had actually checked other people in who had arrived well after us. Poor customer service, an offer of water would have been appreciated.
Review 11:Lovely large room with big balcony. Fantastic breakfast. Free undercover parking. Staff member Pasquale was amazing, helping us with printing documentation that had been stolen, nothing was too much trouble.
Review 12:Awful breakfast. Dreadful breakfast staff. Many eating facilities closed due to wedding. Dark bedroom. Tiny shower and very dated bathroom.
Review 13:Location and views
Review 14:I do not know where to begin here. The hotel stank of cigarette smoke, our room stank of stale smoke which our children had to sleep in. They hadn't bothered to wash the fruit at breakfast, refused to make a latte ( but would make a cappuccino) had to pay for pool towels, terrible sofa bed in the junior suite, freezing pool, we turned up after driving for 8 hours and were told we could not eat in the restaurant as we had to have a reservation, we wanted use the beach shuttle the next morning but were told we needed to book this (no one obvs told us this) so could not make use of it- beach is a 25 min drive away and unless you have a car no way to get there if you don't book the shuttle- can't eat in the restaurant for lunch unless you have the 20 euro per head meal ( who wants this with small children??) and book it! wifi very patchy.
Review 15:Evening meal 'set menu' only and food ok but not as expected for a 4 star hotel - especially for Italy! Very thin towels - like drying yourself with a tea-towel!
Review 16:Large comfortable and very clean rooms. Beautiful setting with fabulous views - elegant hotel.
Review 17:$10 charge for 'pool towel" lack of plain croissants at breakfast
Review 18:Room was like BR apartmnent w/ balcony and view reasonable fixed price "formal" dinner
Review 19:Could improve breakfast offer. Being diabetic, I couldn't eat anything that was offered :)
Review 20:Excellent location, great views Palace-like feel to the property Great, helpful staff Spa facilities
Review 21:Wi-Fi disconnected to often plus we didn't get connected in our room.Swimming pool won't ready to use.Breakfast was wery poor-no wegetables.
Review 22:Great location especially for us to visiting this place
Review 23:Wifi- no no no! Signal was poor and unstable. Breakfast - some fresh vegetables could do.
Review 24:Big and spotless room, fantastic balcony overlooking the Manfredonia Bay. Staff is nice and helpful. Outside swimning pool and sunbeds. Proximity of the crypt and historic town.
Review 25:None.
Review 26:We stay at the Palace Hotel San Michele 2 nights. 1. The location is excellent. The hotel is very close to the historical center and in a good location to visit Gergano. 2. The staff is very friendliness, as well as the hotel cleanness.
Review 27:The hotel food was not very good at all. Substantially below the standard of the surrounding restaurants and they were more competitively priced. It was a shame.
Review 28:Great Location and wonderful views
Review 29:The rooms need to be updated especially thebathrooms
Review 30:We have stayed here several times before and like the staff and location.
Review 31:wish we could have stayed longer
Review 32:REAL value for money
Review 33:Nothing

Review 39:Position & availability of the spa
Review 40:La assoluta tranquillita
Review 41:Everything
Review 42:quite a climb to get from the village to the hotel. had to avail of the taxi service.
Review 43:Excellent view and very private. Staff very helpful.
Review 44:A bit run-down
Review 45:The place, the breakfast
Review 46:there was nothing disagreeable
Review 47:everything
Review 48:the location: great view and indoor parking. perfect place to visit Monte Sant Angelo.
Review 49:The restaurant, breakfast and the restaurant staff is not good. Do not accept the offer to eat the dinner menu. The food is bad, the room is without window and is set up only to serve large groups of bus travelers.
Review 50:great Hotel with spectacular view, but far up on the mountain. great pool and nice rooms. The staff (except for the restaurant) is very nice.
Review 51:Very elegant hotel. Very nice staff. Beautiful location, close to St. Micheal Basilica. Beautiful view on Adriatic Sea. Nice swimming pool. I had a very nice stay in that place. Bardzo elegancki hotel. Bardzo uprzejmy personel. Piękne położenie hotelu, blisko Sanktuarium Św. Michała Archanioła. Wspaniały widok na Adriatyk z Hotelu. Dodatkowym atutem jest basen. Warto.
Review 52:The parking is too far from the hotel and not always available because of outside guests having a private event in the hotel
Review 53:The big room and bathroom The view The nice stuff and the good maintenance The near village center
Review 54:The bar was small and we had to ask for staff to come and serve us. The outside pool was closed, although we realise it was early in the season. The indoor pool did not open until 3pm. Not good if you want to swim before breakfast. The sauna etc was not available as the whole of the spa section was locked up. Disappointing. Although it has been said that the towels were extremely thin, we found found them adequate and they dried us well.
Review 55:Fabulous view and location. Easy access to the town. The hotel was beautiful and very well kept. One particular member on reception was very helpful and spoke English. The room layout of the junior suites were very nice, with the added advantage of being able to close of the sitting area from the bedroom. We enjoyed our stay very much and will certainly return if we go back to the area.
Review 56:no tea/coffee making facility in room, senior waiter spoke only Italian, the Spa is only for over 18 year-olds, the pool was not operational when we were there (21 - 25 April) even though it had said it is open from April - although admittedly there would have been at best one day good enough for making use of it. The weather (but for one day) was decidedly foggy, cold wet and windy, fine by us, but not really expected. The hotel are using an overpriced local taxi service whose driver speaks only Italian. (There is a cheaper local alternative the number of which is available at the bus/train ticket office in the town square but only useful if you speak Italian). Also the neither the banks nor the Post Office in town had facilities for changing Sterling into Euro so we were told to go to another town (Manfredonia) for this. (But you can use your visa card in the cash machines locally for obtaining Euros.) In spite of a constant flow of pilgrims from all over the world, the place operates very much on an Italian-language-only basis. So, unless Italian comes natural to you, take a good phrasebook! :-) Also, in one local restaurant (and the food is excellent!) they brought us little appetizers (we thought they were complimentary) and afters we had not ordered and charged for them.
Review 57:wonderful location close to the caves, wonderfully spacious room with separate seating area, beautiful views from balcony, lovely breakfast area, very welcome facility for regulating the exact temperature for the room, and the experience of the caves is second to none. It is also very close to a local bus station from where one can go directly to San Giovanni Rotondo where St Padre Pio's remains are open to pilgrims - the bus takes about 45 mins and we found it definitely worth doing.
Review 58:The hotel and its staff is far more focused on catering to large groups and tours, which gives it a very institutionalized feel. For individual guests that are not part of a set schedule or itinerary, the staff is less responsive. Restaurant hours are very narrow, and the front desk does not seem to be prepared to make recommendations that appeal to a more sophisticated traveler who wants to experience something beyond the standard tourist experience.
Review 59:The location was excellent -- couldn't be more convenient to the major sights in Monte Sant' Angelo. Monte Sant' Angelo itself was a revelation -- incredibly historic with several days' worth of sites beyond the obvious St. Michele pilgrimage site.
Review 60:Breakfast service (slow and only one waiter in one day); restaurant open only saturday and sunday; no slippers available even if advertized; no courtesy coffee/tea and/or water in the room
Review 61:Panorama; Room Confort; Front desk service
Review 62:I have to honestly admit that our vacation at Palace Hotel San Michele was a fairytale one and we highly recommend this hotel to anyone! I spent six nights at the beginning of September. Monte Sant’Angelo city center is easily reachable from Bari airport but changing public buses in Foggia (there also was a direct bus but we did not want to loose precious time waiting for it) and from there on one has to walk for about ten-fifteen minutes in order to get to Palace Hotel San Michele, the four star hotel at the top of the city, with a wonderful panorama upon Manfredonia gulf. The front desk personnel were extremely efficient and friendly, and checked us in and out without waiting for too long. They also spoke English well and helped us around. Our double room did not have a sea-view but there were two open air terraces as common hotel areas, plus a spectacular first floor restaurant terrace one could spend time on and admire the panorama. The very same gorgeous panorama was enjoyed during breakfast, as the hotel’s breakfast room has a breathless sea view . Moreover, breakfast was rich and abundant in fresh fruits (peaches, plums, nectarines, apples, oranges), different types of cornettis and breads, ham, salami and cheese, cereals and milk, yoghurts, honey, jam, butter, spreadable chocolate cream and juices. Coffees and cappuccinos were brought on command by the suit dressed waiters, just like at a palace! Furthermore, the open air pool is situated in the nearby garden, and stayed open from 8.00 to 19.00. The water was a little bit cold but one can enjoy the lovely surrounding garden amenities, sun and the panorama! The beaches in Manfredonia are reachable by bus or by car and I went there for a couple of hours during the day. Furthermore, in between 16.00 to 19.00, the Palace Hotel San Michele neighboring spa was opened and I had Mediterranean, Finlandese and Turkish saunas, and enjoyed tea served by the personnel in between.
Review 63:The bus service for the beach is ridiculous, only 2 times a day and you must book before (for us it was always full). Breakfast not really good (only coffee and cornetti), the quality was low. The swimming pool is always very very cold!
Review 64:Nice view, live music in the evening, good spa service.
Review 65:staff weren't massively helpful, and very little info in the hotel for activities, sights in the area, bus times etc.. spa wasnt open. swimming pool wasnt great, very small and shallow.
Review 66:nice views & location. great little restaurants in the town of Monte SantʼAngelo. good base if looking to explore the area. food and drink was great value.
Review 67:the lovely facilities were not of the easiest access: the limited hours of the spa service and even the swimming pool could have had extended opening times since we are in the summer. The beach connected to the hotel was below the standards one expects from this part of Italy
Review 68:kindness of staff: friendly and professional - elegant ambiance - very nice breakfast - beautiful swimming pool - altogether good value for money at least for the discounted fee we took (the published fee would have made it less so)
Review 69:Everything would be great if Hotel San Michele would not try to be a Palace. Too much fake elegance like for example full dress waiters during breakfasts
Review 70:Superb location and views on Adriatic. Good breakfasts. Spaciuos, comfortable rooms and not bad swimming pool. Highly recommended!
Review 71:Hotel was almost empty, the restaurant was closed, and the staffing wasminimal - early April must be a bad time to visit. The price was veryreasonable for the (general) standard of hotel.
Review 72:Great location, and good beds.
Review 73:None of the staff spoke English.
Review 74:Hotel was too large as we prefer smaller hotels with less rooms.
Review 75:Location was excellent and room was excellent.
Review 76:amazing place!!!
Review 77:The view is marvelous! The room had a large bathroom, plenty of storage space, comfy bed, and a great balcony, not to mention tv channels in English.
Review 78:Nice hotel with big rooms, good breakfast and WiFi in the room.
Review 79:location
Review 80:Very thin towels. I had never been in a hotel with such thin towels.
Review 81:Nice location in center of town, and hotel was still very easy to find.
Review 82:very hard beds and pillows
Review 83:value for money, room design
Review 84:cool wather in outdoor swimming pool
Review 85:Good location, comfortable rooms, rich breakfast,
Review 86:highest point in town, great view but uphill walk
Review 87:location was great, room was nice, front desk was terrific.
Review 88:Restaurant is not good. Very expensive Men'; Breackfast is poor..no natural orange juice; poor kind of breads;
Review 89:Great location, nice view
Review 90:The staff didn't speak English or Spanish only Italian
