Reviews for The Old Bank Town House

Review 1:Not much.

Review 2:Nice old building with updated facilities. Good size room and bathroom compared to other places we have stayed. The breakfast was the best in the cafe downstairs. Bed was comfortable and they even had a pillow menu. Good location near pier and town center to see everything you need to see.

Review 3:bad maintenance especially in bathroom loose shower holder, mould on tiles, drip from attic, door needs painting and wardrobe drawer not closing properly.

Review 4:location, view, comfortable bed and nice breakfast.

Review 5:The location of this Townhouse was excellent. We parked and walked every where. The local pubs with live music were within walking distance and we felt safe walking at night. The room we stayed in was upgraded from what we originally booked without asking. It had a Victorian decor and was excellently clean and appealing as well as comfortable. Great staff!

Review 6:Nothing to criticise

Review 7:Excellent staff were extremely helpful even contacted me on my cellphone to pass on an important message. Niamh was particularly helpful. Breakfast was very well presented and a great start to the day.

Review 8:Only on arrival there is not a sign on front door to direct you through cafe to reception. A sign says ring bell for 10 seconds which we did for a long time until I rang the hotel and they let us in...telling us we should have gone through the cafe! 5 mins later the next guest was banging on the door

Review 9:The breakfast quality and eating in the cafe a bit different and quirky

Review 10:Shower was not the best as control was on the bath taps, it was too hot then too cold. I would suggest top take the bath out and replace with shower unit which is safer to use.

Review 11:Friendy staff, nice old world feel, room decorated lovely and breakfast was beautiful with great service.

Review 12:My boyfriend had his leave cancelled two days before we were due to arrive, but the hotel wouldn't let me amend my booking in anyway to remove him from the booking (thus I paid for two people). I understand the policy (48 hours notice - which technically I did give) and I did have a genuine reason but they didn't care. Also one was ever on reception so you had to check in and out of another hotel up the road, the room was cold and no one refilled my tea facilities after the first night.

Review 13:Great location, good breakfast, sheets smelled very clean and nice, nice bathroom

Review 14:Could not have been better. The views (room 17 is the best), the size of the room, the best breakfast in a café environment. Eggs Florentine to die for.

Review 15:B&B has a connection to a restaurant down the street Blue Haven "the worst service and food just ok"

Review 16:Location is very nice and the breakfast was also very good

Review 17:We would have had a lovely view from our third floor room but the large window had condensation in between the panes of glass. Presumable this will be addressed in the refurbishment.

Review 18:Great location in the centre of Kinsale. Very friendly and helpful staff. There was a lift - we were on the third floor! There was a lovely cafe on the ground floor which was open to the public during the day. This was where we had our cooked to order breakfast from an extensive menu. We had a relative staying in the sister property 'The Blue Haven' which was close by and we could have breakfast there if we wanted to eat together - or she could have come to our BnB. We could also charge food and drinks in 'The Blue Haven' to our room in the 'Old Bank House'. Some of the rooms have been refurbished - the king room that we saw was beautifully done - and the others are about to be upgraded. The bedroom and bathroom were spotless.

Review 19:Room was very small and needs soundproofing, also too hot and unable to open window for fresh air.

Review 20:The location is very central to everything. Excellent breakfast, good value for money.

Review 21:It is centrally located and charming--more of a bed and breakfast than hotel which was a pleasant surprise. The breakfast was amazing--the food was so fresh!

Review 22:Gruby carpet on stairs bad first impression Dirty bedroom windowsspoilt the nice view Asked for a mushroom omelette for breakfast it was horrible tough & discoloured Hairdryer didn't work

Review 23:Location was perfect Bed was comfortable

Review 24:Nothing

Review 25:Staff were friendly and efficient. The breakfast was very very good. We had a front room overlooking the main street on a major intersection but the soundproofing coped with this perfectly Parking was no problem (free) as it was a Sunday There were many restaurants/pub meals available within a short walk

Review 26:Wi-fi was off despite being told it would be sorted - was escalated 3 times. The reception could not be contacted from the rooms - number was invalid. Repair work was being done in the evening right outside the rooms. Also no one asked me if I enjoyed my stay. A little disappointing to be honest. View of the scaffolding outside the back window.

Review 27:Bedroom was nice - fairly clean. Nice shower

Review 28:The room decor was a little "quaint" and the shower leaked onto the floor no matter how careful you were with the screen.

Review 29:Perfect position in a beautiful town, friendly and helpful staff and excellent food.

Review 30:not fulltime staffed; appeared I caught staff on the way out when I checked in

Review 31:Good price; cafe downstairs is nice; nice staff; downtown Kinsale; close to everything

Review 32:Room a little small, but ok.

Review 33:Breakfast was fabulous. Staff very helpful and accommodating. Smack in the middle of town. Got good restaurant recommendations. Secured a cab for us to return to Cork. All nice.

Review 34:The front door wouldnt open when we returned at night nor would it open for another couple we had to get a member of staff from the main hotel. It wasn't a big deal but could have been if we were night owls

Review 35:Very discreet service. We had use of a lovely sitting room where we could meet as a family. Superb breakfast, excellent value for money. Would definitely recommend!

Review 36:Room was tiny. Parking was inconvenient. Staff was okay but not as welcoming as many Irish B&Bs we've been to.

Review 37:Location was wonderful. Very clean.

Review 38:Cramped hallways and stairs

Review 39:Location, location, location. We originally had booked a B&B on the outskirts of Kinsale, but changed at the last minute to the Old Bank. That was a great decision, The place has charm, the breakfast is terrific and everything is within walking distance. We spent 3 days in Kinsale and walked to the different live music pubs late into the night and could return to our room through a safe 3 locked door system

Review 40:Strange layout (reception was at a weird place) and outdated shower.

Review 41:Excellent location and very comfortable rooms. Elevators helped the strange layout quite a bit. Breakfast was very good--for Ireland ;)

Review 42:I liked the fact that there was a hairdryer and mirror in the bathroom.Because we had to leave at an early hour, a staff member graciously fixed us a 'box breakfast' and left it at our door the night before.

Review 43:The last time we stayed here it was a privately owned and run Boutique Hotel - everything was immaculate. The property is now owned by a hotel group and the lack of maintenance and investment are all too clear to see. I feel it is now no more than an expensive and quite tatty B&B - a real shame.

Review 44:Location

Review 45:Not a four star hotel! Front room very hot and traffic noise bad. Lamp shade next to bed needs to be replaced as it is badly damaged Poor wifi connection

Review 46:Great breakfast Good location

Review 47:Room was very small & hot. I thought it's was well overpriced in comparison to all our other accommodation! Was expecting a lot more for an extra $40e a night

Review 48:Location, Comfortable bed & Nice Breakfast

Review 49:Ruined my shirt while using the room iron as the last person had melted plastic to it and I transferred it to my shirt. Just a small check by cleaning staff before re-letting would have helped this matter. Also the kettle was situated on a high shelf with no socket near by. Small mishaps but hopefully will improve service for others. Overall it was a nice stay.

Review 50:Breakfast was very good, good selection and a fine breakfast buffet. Lovely staff. Clean room. Spotless bathroom.

Review 51:Wi-Fi was down the first day there. Pay Parking is on-street or in nearby pay lots but were extremely limited. We would recommend checking in after 6:00 when parking is free and more readily available.

Review 52:Location was great and room was clean. Convenient to sites, pubs and restaurants. Breakfast was very good with fresh on-site baked goods.

Review 53:mouldy tiles in bathroom. mould around bathroom sink and bath. dirt in corners of bedroom and bathroom. stains on bedroom carpet.

Review 54:location very good.

Review 55:Parking difficult. Attention to detail would help. Light bulbs in two lamps not working. Difficult to keep windows open. Supposed to have free wifi but not available in bedrooms, only lounge area.

Review 56:Decor of bedrooms. Breakfast room nice with good fresh light food.

Review 57:Noisy room located between lift and boiler room. Tiny lift. Access with a car and parking very difficult. Located on busy street corner.Front desk often not staffed.

Review 58:Room decor, room well equipped.

Review 59:On arrival the heat in the room was overpowering, a window left ajar would have cooled it down a bit.The position and size of the washhand basin was ergonomically challenging- no room for bits & bobs. No internet reception available anywhere. Bit pricey for the facilities offered.

Review 60:Good location. Although there was no parking belonging to the hotel there was plenty available close by -just move before 10.00 to avoid a ticket.Considering the intown location and an open window it was surprisingly quiet at night. Good breakfast.

Review 61:We stayed maybe two weeks ago on a Monday night. Never in my life have I spent such an uncomfortable night after paying €120. The weather was very close and humid, which is not the your fault, but the room was unbearably hot, the window in the room was extremely stiff and difficult to open and I'm young and fit, I can't imagine an older couple being able to open it! We had to have the window open all night long, and sleep outside the covers..there was constant noise outside, and at 7 in the morning, on what should have Been a relaxing lie in, construction work started on the street out side the open window which we could not shut because of the heat. Why, if paying that much money, is there not air conditioning in the rooms I cannot understand. This was not the biggest complaint however, when we came back the night before, we smelt what we thought was gas or fumes, when we walked upstairs it got so bad that we both became extremely light headed. I spent 10 minutes looking for a member of staff to bring this to there attention as it was very alarming obviously after the girl dying in the Trident a few years ago but could not find one person on call, eventually we went back to our room, and spent the Night worrying about this also. In the morning I told a member of staff about the fumes, and was told builders where doing some work next door and shed "have a word" there was no apology offered, which I'd think would be the least a member of staff would have offered after hearing something so potentially threatening from a worried guest. I will never stay there again, and cannot and would not recommend it to anyone I know.

Review 62:We where a young couple. The rooms where very nice, but definitely for an older couple...this was not the problem.

Review 63:I asked for a queen bed and got two single beds pushed together. Both beds were a different levels, one of the beds had several springs broken so it was impossible to sleep on.

Review 64:The breakfast and the staff in the morning were absolutely wonderful.

Review 65:The wifi was free but kept going off. I went down the road and did my airline check in and they printed the boarding cards. The hotel was very helpful in suggesting this.

Review 66:Rooms were wonderful, kettle for tea, nice products in the bathroom, good shower, fantastic breakfast. Very helpful staff. Brilliant

Review 67:Tired furnishings need replacing.Mould should be removed from tub surround.

Review 68:Accommodating staff at reception and in the cafe at breakfast. Delicious and varied breakfast choices. Incredibly central location for dining, pubs and shopping. These are the best aspects of a stay at The Old Bank and make it possible for us to recommend it. Although reasonably comfortable, The Old Bank is tired. Our room was really in need of an overhaul. The carpeting, drapes and furniture are really showing their age. There was mould around the tub as well.

Review 69:Fabulous styled rooms. Terrific food - hotel has a cafe and shop on ground floor selling lovely home made delicacies. Old Bank is sister hotel to The Blue Haven which has restaurant and irish music in eveings, so it covers all bases. Run by sharp young women who are bringing Kinsale into the 21st century. Top quality all round.

Review 70:The lift bounces, makes one nervous to use it.

Review 71:Good location, and they have ties with a place down at the corner for an evening of food, drinks and music.
