Reviews for Actons Hotel
Review 1:My parents stayed and said it was lovely, the only thing that was an issue was having to leave the building to used the leisure centre that had lots of kids but that doesn't take away from the lovely hotel
Review 2:The restaurant could maybe have a bit more to offer for vegetarians.
Review 3:Great hotel. Was the second time we stayed there and probably not the last. Excellent location, nice staff, easy to get there, good food. Just perfect for a hassle-free weekend trip.
Review 4:Receptionist who checked us in wasn't very friendly,,, whilst waiting to be checked in she explained everything to the couple in front of us, wifi details, breakfast times, dinner times etc, all we got was the directions to the room we then had to ring down for all the above information, seemed as if we were treated different, i know it sounds petty but all guests should be given the same information.
Review 5:Room was nice and comfortable, breakfast was also nice with a good choice,
Review 6:Actons is an established hotel with a pleasant ambiance. The view of Marina from our Superiour Double was fabulous.Kinsale is a Special Place and I think the Hotel and Fitness facilities fit in well on the seafront.Wish we could have stayed longer.
Review 7:Nothing . We loved our stay and would stay again.
Review 8:Staff were very approachable, warm and friendly to us. Great location beside yummy dino's for fish and chips or just a casual stroll to the pubs and shops. Car park and view were great.
Review 9:The room was gorgeous, especially the 6ft bed, stayed in alot of hotels in my time but the comfort of this bed was top quality. Also the double shower in the bathroom was lovely and spacious.
Review 10:Perfect location, cheerful staff, nice rooms with sea view and quiet, properly cooked Irish breakfast selection (not buffet) and a nice continental buffet all at a reasonable off season price.
Review 11:I thought the foyer was a bit gloomy and lacking atmosphere.
Review 12:I liked the harbour view room. The tall windows and high ceiling gave a spacious feeling to the room.
Review 13:Not an experience, just an observation. We cannot understand why UK & Ireland hotels do not provide a safe in bedrooms, unlike most continental hotels. It's not as if they are expensive to buy.
Review 14:We liked every thing about the hotel we loved the breakfast menu plenty of selection to choose from we loved the friendly staff and wakening up to the harbour view we will definitely go back and stay again and tell our friends about it thank you to Actions hotel for a lovely stay.
Review 15:Waiting staff both in the bar and restaurant not especially friendly. A simple request at breakfast for an alternative to what was on menu resulted in a big fuss and a long wait when the request was finally granted. The hotel is expensive, I expected better service.
Review 16:Great location , bar food very good and reception staff friendly.
Review 17:I would say that we were hopin to have some entertainment in the bar on a Saturday night or even a bit of music playin would have made it bit better, also parking space wasn't too great, we were lucky to get a spot at all. other than that I would have no complaints about this hotel.
Review 18:Myself and my partner stayed one night, had a beautiful dinner in the restraunt and enjoyed few drinks after in the bar. Had a lovely surprise of getting our room upgraded which made the stay even more enjoyable for us, would return again for another stay.
Review 19:The breakfast wasn't fresh. We got the full Irish and it was cold as well as rubbery and dry. Was not impressed.
Review 20:Marius made us feel at home. Very nice man, would definitely attend again.
Review 21:Leisure centr had no hotel entrance so in bad weather u would have to exit hotel for swim. We didn't bother as it doubled up as gym for locals. Didn't look too relax.
Review 22:Ordinary 4* hotel. Nothing to set them apart or make me want to talk about hotel. Staff were friendly especially at b/fast. Superior bedroom was quite small not what I was expecting, regret that I paid for upgrade from double room (same room just harbour view)
Review 23:Some staff not friendly or polite in bar. others were. would be nice to have being asked if we enjoyed our stay when checking out. Just little things but important for business
Review 24:location
Review 25:We were given a beautiful room if the night looking out on the harbour. Despite the weather being awful the view was still beautiful. The staff were really nice, we enjoyed a drink in the bar before we went out for dinner. The breakfast was excellent, great choice, everything was so fresh. Couldn't ask for more, will definitely return!
Review 26:First evening there was a strong oily smell in the bar & passagways from the kitchen. Less on the second day so maybe there was a problem in kitchen ventilation / extraction
Review 27:Excellent friendly & helpfulstaff. Comfortable & v clean bedroom. Excellent breakfast & selection of foods.
Review 28:A great hotel.. Lovely food and bar , .very friendly staff....great leisure centre .We had a 3 night stay in a superior room with a harbour view . From start to finish our stay was excellent....
Review 29:Nothing bad to say at all. We would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends.
Review 30:Loved this property! Excellent location. We had a room with a view of the harbor which was beautiful. The bed was extremely comfortable. Overall room size and bathroom size was quite nice. Staff were very polite and responsive. Great live music in the pub and the breakfast was delicious with superb service.
Review 31:At €175 a night for the superior room I would have expected at least a bath in the bathroom with complimentary water and bath robes to be supplied. Vastly overpriced. Bar lacked atmosphere.
Review 32:Lovely location with views of Kinsale Harbour. Comfortable room. Nice breakfast.
Review 33:Found the bedding just a little too warm during the night. Prefer seating etc in the foyer/reception area
Review 34:All staff were so friendly and nothing was too much bother . The relaxed and extended breakfast times lent to the holiday feeling It was good to watch the well trained staff in the dining room , especially at breakfast time.
Review 35:Meeting guests in the hotel who paid €100 less than we did for 2 nights through Select Hotels website. So we feel that we were done though the website that we booked our stay through.
Review 36:Hotel & Staff were fine - no issues.
Review 37:Gluten free selection at breakfast was poor and staff weren't overly helpful when asked about options. They looked like they were sick of being asked about this.
Review 38:Pool facilities were excellent. Child friendly with lots of floats for them to use. Great location with playground right next door. Suited our needs with a young family well.
Review 39:When leaving the hotel, as we were driving with the one way system that is in place, we encountered a very rude delivery truck driver reversing his truck backwards, against the flow of the one way system. This should not be allowed, as there is no room for manoeuvres to be made.
Review 40:Staff were very friendly
Review 41:3 things I would say that I would like to improve my stay. I think movies or pay for view channels would be nice, a sheet under the very comfortable duvet for when it got very warm under said duvet.. and a bath in bathroom. but these are just my preferences.. The room was spotless and nicely decorated....
Review 42:Our room was very comfortable. Lovely large bed which is the most important. Bathroom very small with no bath, but lovely large shower.... The view from our room was just beautiful 308... Staff were lovely
Review 43:It was quite expensive, especially considering our room had no views. Also, we both had a lukewarm shower...
Review 44:It was in a great location. We were able to park easily in the carpark, the room was large, clean and comfortable and breakfast was very good.
Review 45:The cappuccino was terrible. The furnishings were generic but I did not mind at all.
Review 46:Lovely view of the harbor. Great bed. Fabulous shower. Impeccably clean which means a lot to me. Extraordinarily lovely and helpful staff. Great options for breakfast. Quiet at night. Very close to everything. Wish I had had the time to use the gym and steam room etc.
Review 47:Excellent location and view from our room. Delicious breakfast with great range of choices. Relaxed though attentive staff. Booked another room for our son and his girlfriend and they enjoyed the pool facilities as well.
Review 48:Fire alarm went off in middle of night, but no advice provided that it was a false alarm
Review 49:Staff - friendly, helpful, efficient, went out of their way to meet my needs
Review 50:Nothing
Review 51:Excellent location, outstanding room, quiet - set back from street, convenient parking lot, great tasting food at very reasonable prices in restaurant, outstanding breakfast included in the room price. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 52:We found a very greasy food smell in reception & bar area. Seating in the bar area was quite grubby. We also found that we missed having a loung seating area, the only one available was in the bar. My husband complained about there not being sufficient parking for hotel residents.
Review 53:Room was of a very high standard. Staff were friendly & helpful.
Review 54:The cooked breakfast was truly appalling. I had scrambled eggs on toast, partner had full Irish breakfast. Hard to get wrong but not only was the presentation enough to turn my stomach, neither of us even half finished our meals as no flavour, soggy bread and burnt meat. Awful. Stick to the continental.
Review 55:Location is spot on. Beautiful views while still being very central to the village.
Review 56:Although there iis an elevator in the hotel, i need to lug my luggages up and down some steps before reaching the room. Not very convenient.
Review 57:Breakfast spread was good.
Review 58:We paid for Harbour Room but weren't prepared for the lack of sleep on the Friday night due to wedding....music was very loud and didn't get to sleep till 2am..had heard there was a wedding on the Saturday and nearly checked out but hubby convinced me to stay and thankfully band alot quieter
Review 59:Loved the view from Harbour Room and breakfast was lovely
Review 60:The food is awful
Review 61:The hotel is excellently located with limited parking. However the bar / restaurant is a big let down for food. I stay there regularly for work but each time food is tasteless and dripping in grease. The facilities and wifi is great, that's why I come back. It's such a pity as its a great location. Fortunately good food is only a stones throw away in every other bar restaurant in kinsale. It's a pity they done hire a new chef !
Review 62:Didn't have fridge in room - would have been handy as had toddler for bottle etc - maybe it's case hotel rooms don't have them anymore !
Review 63:Location and leisure facilities were excellent - had dinner in bar which was great - very tasty and excellent value
Review 64:I thought it was overpriced and looked like it needed a good clean, the carpets were dirty, the rooms hot and cramped and for the price i expected much more. No assistance with luggage and the tiny rooms were priced on the view only rather than the overall experience and facility. Very disappointed and I would not stay there again.
Review 65:The location was great, reception staff were pleasant but under resourced, same for dining room staff.
Review 66:The staff were lovely. We loved the location. The suite room we stayed in was fab. Breakfast amazing. Couldn't fault this hotel. I would definitely go back. Well done guys :)
Review 67:New, modern facilities. Across from harbour. Higher floors have views of harbour. Very good hot and cold breakfast. Close me to restaurants and pubs.
Review 68:Bed was atrocious, two pushed together with a 'ridge' at the 'join' very disappointing as this was supposed to be a straightforward double bed
Review 69:Location,b/fast,staff all good
Review 70:Bathroom on the small size but had a large walk-in shower.
Review 71:Great location for the town and on-site free parking. Had a superior harbour view room which was very comfortable. Breakfast was good with a variety of choices. Found all staff very professional and helpful.
Review 72:Car Parking facilities insufficient. Waited almost 30 mins for a place to become vacant. Also, we thought we had booked a sea facing room but this did not happen.
Review 73:Easy accessibility to the town centre.
Review 74:Stylish décor in a perfect setting. I usually avoid big hotels but this one has got it just right. Friendly staff and tastefully refurbished. It is set back from the road so is quiet but with stunning views over the harbour. Easy walking distance to several award winning restaurants. We would highly recommend.
Review 75:The bathroom door opens into the shower, awkward! And the bathroom is very small with no space to store toiletries.
Review 76:Attention to detail by the staff, friendly, efficient. Quiet rooms with great harbor views. The breakfast was well done and a treat to have cold buffet with hot table service, bravo.
Review 77:Although spacious enough the bathroom only had a shower. The staff were a bit dour and not the friendliest
Review 78:The location is good. Breakfast was very good and quick
Review 79:The only bad thing was listed as having laundry services, and laundry facilities--- but service available with early morning pick up, and nothing available to do yourself (maybe I am to spoiled with hotels having in the US)
Review 80:Loved walking around the town, taking the walking tour with Barry from the information center. Our room was in the back side and very quiet for sleeping, all the toiletries available except Q-tips and cotton balls--- but they had wash clothes!!
Review 81:There wasn't a bath in the room the view was poor with loud chatter from the local lane and it was easier to walk the stairs than get the tiny elevator The structure and planning of the room was poor
Review 82:This is a great locational bastion of kinsale very central and with good leisure and pool facilities
Review 83:The lobby has no charm. Upon entering the hotel, I feared we had made a mistake. The one lift is very small.
Review 84:This is a very good hotel overlooking the harbor. The staff was helpful, the lounge is comfortable, beds were excellent, etc. Short walk to restaurants, shops, etc.
Review 85:Lift old and small and much in demand
Review 86:Perfect location for walks cycling and great food. Staff friendly and helpfull. Food excellent. Great short break!
Review 87:Perfectly situated in Kinsale. We had a beautiful view of the harbor and loved starting our day off with the breakfast. Lovely bar area and close to everything Kinsale has to offer.
Review 88:I'd like a toilet brush in the bathrooms of all hotels! But I'm guessing that'd be a hygiene issue???
Review 89:Couldn't fault it. Huge room and huge bed! Staff were very nice. Breakfast was excellent.
Review 90:The staff were very helpful and friendly for the most part. It is nice to be met with a cheerful smile on arrival.
Review 91:Views, lovely freshly cooked breakfast, cleanliness and convenience. Good for coeliacs!
Review 92:Indifferent staff. We had arrived from another hotel and the experience was very different. A cheerful and welcoming reception sets the tone from the start.
Review 93:Top quality bedroom and great view.
Review 94:Wifi did not work in bedroom. Although staff in bar excellent they "didn't" listen to food orders & got it wrong 3 times.
Review 95:The friendliness & helplines of the staff. Location of bedroom.
Review 96:Breakfast-sausages and bacon were so disappointing..fruit wasn't great, pancakes were bland.. Heating in room was overbearing!!
Review 97:Harbour view room Staff were great, really helpful Location Bathroom was nice with a decent shower Clean
Review 98:Didn't book the spa in time so was unable to avail of that. Should have booked at time of booking the hotel
Review 99:Great hotel, excellent location, staff very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend to friends.
Review 100:Cooked breakfast let it down but the self service buffet was excellent with top quality range of foods
Review 101:We were looking for relaxation & we got just that! Bed was super comfy & shower was 1st class. Had bar food and it was beautiful too.
Review 102:nothing
Review 103:Location in the centre of town, ideal for walks and drives around west cork. lovely town with great pubs and restraunts. The leisure centre was a real bonus
Review 104:Staff in the bar were a little slow taking the order for bar food ended up having to be prompted.
Review 105:The hotel was very comfortable and the room was nice and warm on arrival
Review 106:a minor point. Once off the small elevator, had to negotiate a few steps with a suitcase to get to my room,
Review 107:Quiet and comfortable, with big, new, clean bathroom. The breakfast service in the hotel was excellent, a tempting, fresh buffet and hot food from the kitchen.
Review 108:The only thing we weren't keen on was the choice of piped music, though even that was better on day three.
Review 109:Friendliness of staff. Layout and decor of public rooms. Excellent breakfasts.
Review 110:Kinsale, it's a beautiful town with plenty of eating places little shops and bars. Great walks and scenery, the harbour is so picturesque. Actons hotel is just the perfect location in the town overlooking the harbour, leisure facilities are a great extra to the hotel.
Review 111:The breakfast set up The Meat and most food in the dinning room were left out at room temp for quite a while. Also There are no sneeze guards in front of the food. Don't get me wrong I ate everything I wanted and enjoyed it, We also ate at the bar it was great !!!
Review 112:Everything
Review 113:The breakfast sausage wasn't my favourite, but that is being picky
Review 114:It had all the basic amenities of the a modern hotel, staff were lovely but the best thing were the showers.
Review 115:On arrival received a cold welcome. Far too clinical. The carpets were stained . We booked the rooms in July and felt we got the worst location. On the first floor not overlooking the harbour and people chatting outside at midnight which kept us awake. The room was stifling and was awake most of the night. On departure not even asked did we enjoy our visit. I was very unhappy as I had brought German and French people here. I would never return. Management need training and staff.
Review 116:mini fridge and iron needed, though iron received straight away when requested
Review 117:great location, excellent breakfast, brilliant selection, hotel is decorated to a very high standard, beautiful decor. O Neill suite was very spacious
Review 118:I would have loved a room with a view of the harbour
Review 119:The bed and the bedding were devine, I would have brought them home if I could..Breakfast great selection of continental and the cooked breakfast was a real irish breakfast.
Review 120:Food was excellent .staff friendly . Disappointed that my youngest left his sliotar at the breakfast table and didn't have it returned . Pat Cashe
Review 121:Bed...was far too firm for my needs. I had requested decaff drinks only in my room and this was not fulfilled.
Review 122:Friendly, efficient staff with exception of one member who took my bar order and then went off duty without fulfilling it or informing incoming staff that order was outstanding!!
Review 123:I have considered this question and truthfully there was nothing we disliked about the hotel.
Review 124:We had stayed in this hotel many years ago. This time we noticed a very big change,in that the hotel has been revamped to a high standard of decor, food service, excellant breakfast and a lovely feeling ot warm welcome from reception. In our opinion this hotel deserves to be a 4* rating. We have already a plan to return on an Autum break.Soo much to do in the area even if the weather was not great.
Review 125:The Acton Hotel in Kinsale is a great place to stay. The staff is excellent and the rooms well appointed, great bed and very clean. Location is perfect. Would highly recommend and will go back there to stay
Review 126:I asked for a bath but didn't get one, but was offered a bath later. I decided that the view was better than a soak in a bath.
Review 127:Location was wonderful, excellent views from our room. The fact that it is set back from the road meant that even with the windows open there was very little noise.
Review 128:Buffet breakfast options excellent but fried option very disappointing bland and tasteless,I expected a lot better
Review 129:Location excellent,decor lovely,staff friendly and efficient
Review 130:We had tea & coffee facilities but no tea or coffee. Easy fix by calling reception.
Review 131:Amazing breakfast. Comfortable bed. Friendly and diligent staff.
Review 132:The bathroom in our first floor (108) room was not fit for purpose and certainly would not suit anyone over size 12.....to be fair the hotel did deduct 20 euro from our bill when I "complained".
