Reviews for Tierneys Guesthouse on Main Street

Review 1:I had asked for a room at back of building for noise reasons . Having booked a month in advance I was disappointed to be in front of building and was kept awake for hours with night club music etc .

Review 2:Comfortable beds

Review 3:It's supposed to be a B&B but no breakfast!! Lots of the group said same about other B&Bs in Kinsale .. Couldn't find any plug socket in room 7 until I dragged bed out from wall to boil the kettle!!

Review 4:Helpful staff brought up bag quick immediate checkin n checkout Were not too pushy to get you up n out at 11 I wandered down about 12 after first knock at about 1130

Review 5:The location is great however, noisy at night located by bars so that is inevitable.

Review 6:The rooms were very clean and comfortable quite small but adequate for a couple of nights.

Review 7:Ad said there was parking but there wasn't. Had to use the council car park which can be difficult to get a park in at certain times of the day.

Review 8:Very central. Lovely staff. Spotlessly clean.

Review 9:We did not expect the guesthouse to be located between night clubs. Fortunately, these were closed during our stay.

Review 10:It was very central and easy to explore Kinsale from here.

Review 11:I made my booking online to include bed and breakfast, this was confirmed by Mary on reception. The whole episode was most embarrassing for myself and Mary and staff at Lemon Leaf. I would not stay at Tierneys again on principal, not a nice experience!!!! Please get website altered it is most misleading.

Review 12:Friendly staff, comfortable room, clean.

Review 13:The staff were rude, breakfast wasn't included even though when I booked it said it was, rooms are tiny, showers didn't work, sink falling off the wall, no parking, loud street noise all night, would never ever stay there again, dump

Review 14:The location was ok

Review 15:Size of room, you couldn't swing a cat in it, I would have had more room in my car! However my biggest gripe is that on their page in booking .com they said guests were served a breakfast in the cafe downstairs and that guests could choose from a variety of options off the menu in the cafe. This turned out to be completely untrue. The person in the cafe was very rude when I came down and insisted that they were two different businesses and my wife and I would have to pay for our breakfasts. However when I enquired with the helpful receptionist and showed him what I had read on the booking page, he agreed that it was their mistake. We failed in our efforts to agree an acceptable resolution to our grievance. I have checked Booking.com again this morning and guess what? the same messsage is still up...."Guests are served breakfast daily in the Lemon Leaf Cafe, with a variety of options available" If you are booking "Tierneys" beware that Guests are NOT served breakfast only left with a sick feeling in their stomachs when they realise they have been swindled.

Review 16:Location was good. Guy at reception was friendly and helpful.

Review 17:Received a voice mail at the last minute to say they had made an error with Booking.com and my reservation was no longer available . They had called another accommodation but it was not up to standard. I had no choice as it was last minute and I had only 20 mins between office and business dinner to sort out. Alternative accommodation was a room above a shop, was given key to street and room hence felt unsafe. Room was clean but no normal facilities such as TV or hair-dryer. Had no parking so my car was a fair walk away in the rain in an unsecured location. Have recommend to my place of work, which is a large local multinational to not use Tierney's again.

Review 18:This hotel is in a great location. It didn't offer breakfast so we ate at the Lemon Tree next door. It was the best breakfast we had in Ireland. The staff were friendly and the stay was very enjoyable.

Review 19:Not much storage for clothes. No drawers in room. Wasn't able to unpack fully.Bed creaked but comfortable.

Review 20:Liked the location. Fine for very short stay.

Review 21:Could hear music from nearby disco till 2am and there was no breakfastincluded with stay. Room was tiny with double bed shoved into it. Notbig enough to be called a double. Pictures of room on websitemisleading.

Review 22:Central location and clean room. Nice shower facilities and cleanbathroom with fresh towels.

Review 23:the early morning deliveries on the street outside

Review 24:the location was fabulous, the staff friendly, the Lemon Leaf breakfast really delicious in lovely surronds

Review 25:Hard to open our suitcases in the room it was so tiny.

Review 26:Liked walking everywhere in town from our hotel. Great town. Great breakfast spot attached to hotel.

Review 27:Our room was very small with little room for luggage and the accommodation was of a poor standard.. Parking was a problem also.

Review 28:The location of the property was in the middle of town so convenient to restaurants and shopping

Review 29:No parking, no breakfast, rooms tiny. Sink in same room as bed. Bathroom so small i couldn't dry myself after shower in bathroom. Gap between door and floor nearly 1/2 inch , you could hear everything going on. Also could hear music from local night club. Price for a room that small outrageous .

Review 30:Location was good

Review 31:Room so small we had to make appointments to pass each other! No table for computer. No chair, no place in the hotel to sit and talk with friends. Nowhere to put suitcases, even small ones. No light above sink for shaving. Parking was tricky - 2 hour limit close to hotel. All-day parking was free but a couple of blocks away.

Review 32:Helpful friendly staff. Great location. Great breakfast just next door.

Review 33:Room was way to small for the price. No breakfast for the price, when restaurant next door, could give voucher for free breakfast, very over priced.

Review 34:Location

Review 35:Very small. Shower started flooding when water was on full level. No soap in bathroom. No one around to inquire about things after check-in time.

Review 36:Good location...Pleasant man at check in.

Review 37:the bars opposite were noisy all night

Review 38:we choose to be in the middle of town and it was noisy all night but we were in walking distance for the restaurants which are excellent

Review 39:Our room was on the Main Street so the noise level was pretty high even after 11pm when we thought the music would stop. Beds were pretty uncomfortable. No breakfast included

Review 40:Liked the location

Review 41:It's a bit of a walk to the nearest free parking when carrying luggage. Breakfast isn't included but available from the cafe downstairs. Delicious but a bit pricy.

Review 42:Really well situated in the heart of town. Very close to great pubs and restaurants.

Review 43:Not much too dislike .

Review 44:The closeness to everything in the town .i had a friends wedding there .the church and hotel all within 3 mins walk .the friendly staff and knowledgeable about the area .

Review 45:If you are looking for luxury, this is not the place, BUT, if a clean room with a super attentive staff in a location that is steps from almost anywhere you will want to visit in Kinsale is desired, Tierney’s Guesthouse delivers. Dominick was a great host, with helpful suggestions (parking, eating, shopping), the use of his printer and a very easy going style.

Review 46:Could not turn off the shower and was not draining properly so had to find help who fixed the problem .

Review 47:The staff was lovely and everyone was friendly and helpful

Review 48:No breakfast included but there was an excellent restaurant attached to the B+B.

Review 49:Excellent location and walking distance to all restaurants and pubs. Very friendly and helpful staff who informed us all all the local attractions.

Review 50:The one member of staff we meet at check I'm was so rude. Didn't smile once, literally said that will be €86 pay now, check out at 11 and we don't do breakfast. Incredible they don't offer breakfast at that price. They literally just want you in and out at the least amount of effort to them. The room was also tiny, spent your money else where in beautiful kind ale. I'm this day and he the service was desperate.

Review 51:Not much I'm afraid.

Review 52:Tierney's is a B&B with no breakfast. This accomadation is small and the bed was very uncomfortable. Too expensive for these complaints. Lots of noise coming from the street late at night.

Review 53:Central location and very clean.

Review 54:Basically a hostel rather than a "guest house". Incredibly small rooms with pretty poor cleanliness for the price you paid. Only reason we stayed here was it was only thing available.

Review 55:Right downtown in the middle of everything is the primary good feature about this property.

Review 56:1. Office hours were not posted. 2. There was no sign of night management even though a sign stated there was one in place. 3. When we needed to contact the staff outside of office hours the phone went straight to answerphone which stated that we could not leave a message as their mailbox was full.

Review 57:Bedroom quiet small, bathroom smaller still, but acceptable for a short stay on a night where the next nearest accomodation was in Bandon!

Review 58:Lovely double bed.

Review 59:Small tv, couldn't get it to work.

Review 60:Good location in Kinsale, plenty of restauraunts/shops around. Staff were so friendly and the most helpful I've encountered!

Review 61:I liked everything about my stay.

Review 62:A staff member Mary, was very nice . Recommending places of interest for me to visit. The accommodations while small, we're clean and comfortable The place oozed charm

Review 63:iT WAS NOT A BAD EXPERIENCE AT ALL--WE JUST WOULD HAVE LIKED A CHAIR IN THE BEDROOM BUT SPACE WAS TIGHT.

Review 64:GREAT LOCATION RIGHT CLOSE TO CENTRE. PARKING CLOSE BY. GREAT LUNCH IN CAFE DOWNSTAIRS. WARM COSY ROOM.

Review 65:Not really a bad experience, just rather small room but space well planned..few more coat hangers needed. as well as drawers .

Review 66:Location brilliant.central Kinsale.Plenty of good restaurants,on doorstep!!!.Free parking just around the corner.

Review 67:Parking is impossible on a busy day, so dropping off bags and finding out where to park whilst driving the car is a challenge. They do have a free carpark though.

Review 68:The guesthouse is conveniently situated in a pretty little street in the hub of restaurants and the port area. Breakfast is conveniently in the cafe next door. Great coffee!

Review 69:Perhaps the rooms where small but as we continued our travels most rooms are small in Ireland and we didn't spend much time in the room; after all where there to see Kinsale not hang out in our room.

Review 70:Friendly, very clean.

Review 71:There was no breakfast. We were provided $2 off of the cafe downstairs.

Review 72:We arrived very late and the staff was very accommodating. The room/bathroom was very clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay again

Review 73:No onsite parking so have to park in public location (safe) and walk with (selected) luggage about 600m unless you can find temporary parking spot close by (good luck)! Breakfast not included and discount for next door establishment (good) not really applicable.

Review 74:Great location, quiet quaint rooms, friendly and helpful staff

Review 75:Nearby Parking "facilities" not good. Although "free parking" 10 minutes walk away.

Review 76:The "Proprietors" were very helpful & the scenery of the harbour etc - magic!

Review 77:Cramped room, very small and very steep stairs to climb

Review 78:Friendly staff and helpful to change our room after the first night, very central great location

Review 79:Wi-Fi was a bit unstable but sufficient.

Review 80:Was only there for a night and everything was great. The places we were recommended to go by staff were fantastic. The included breakfast was at a lovely cafe downstairs. The room itself was of a good size and comfortable.

Review 81:Very very noisy on a weekend. Our room overlooked main street. Got woken up lots with people coming out of pubs and the local pub!

Review 82:Room was sparkling clean. It was small but had everything we needed. Comfortable bed!

Review 83:VERY SMALL SHOWER ROOM BUT VERY CLEAN.

Review 84:FRIENDLY HELPFUL STAFF. CLEAN ROOM, VERY COMFORTABLE BED. HANDY FOR RESTAURANTS, PUBS, SHOPS. BREAKFAST LOVELY AND BREAKFAST ROOM ATTRACTIVE LOVELY LITTLE CONSERVATORY AND SMALL PATIO OUTSIDE.

Review 85:Would have liked a handheld shower. GPS had difficulty in finding this hotel. Only found because of the helpfulness of the people of the community.

Review 86:Staff was very personable and helpful.

Review 87:Dominic was most helpful in bringing in all our luggage, as we hadn't realised that there was no Car Park. Easy to find the Free one and we got a space in the street on Sunday pm which was free. Room quite small but it made us be tidy and quite big enough for 2 nights. Loved the Lemon Leaf Café for breakfast next door, lots of choice.

Review 88:Rooms were tiny but that was part of the charm I guess! Stairs were a little tight-might be an issue if you were old.

Review 89:Friendly people at a great location. Helped out with getting some laundry done. Very helpful! The restaurant next door was great.

Review 90:Parking very difficult to ascertain. Very hard bed, more like a box spring. Wi-Fi was spotty, slow and often unobtainable. No breakfast included in rate and "vouchers given for the café next door IF you spent more than 10€. All in all a disappointment.

Review 91:Convenient to many pubs.

Review 92:Rooms were very small wash hand basin in bedroom as the bathroom was too small, Thought it was over priced

Review 93:Friendliness of staff one lady in particular very helpful and friendly

Review 94:Parking is free but not convenient. It is the free public parking a few blocks away. Room was a bit cramped but our hostess was more than cheery and helpful.

Review 95:Price & location

Review 96:Room felt more like a Dorma tory than a B&B. Staff did not inform us that breakfast was NOT included in the room rate, only mentioned what time breakfast would be served, implying that breakfast was included. Absolutely NO parking nearby. Had to park in a public lot blocks away and hoof it from there with luggage. NOT convenient or easy to find. Would not stay here again.

Review 97:It is right in the heart of the city center so it is an easy walk to shops and pubs.

Review 98:The wifi cud have been better but I think this was the case just in our room so just bad luck really.. Not much of an issue

Review 99:The room itself was very clean and had everything we wanted for our short trip, close to everything at a reasonable price and set in a beautiful location. The staff were very welcoming and helpful and indicated many of the local attractions to see and helpful with any other issues we may have had.

Review 100:A lot of noise from street and we stayed on a Friday night so would hate to see how bad it would be on a busy Saturday night. Also no breakfast was included 10e extra is very expensive

Review 101:Rooms are v small. A lot of noise from both the streets outside and a very annoying alarm!

Review 102:Central location and in the Hun of things. Friendly and accommodating staff.

Review 103:Room was very small, tv didn't work at all, milk for the tea/coffee in the room was expired by 3 months. Too expensive for the standard offered.

Review 104:Friendly staff, excellent location in the very centre of Kinsale, room was clean, tasty breakfast in a cafe next door.

Review 105:Very small rooms and bathroom was so small there was no sink!

Review 106:Staff were nice and it was right in the town so not much walking needed.bed was really comfy.

Review 107:Offsite parking. However, I was lucky enough to find parking right across the street for my one night stay, so it worked out fine for me.

Review 108:I had a lovely stay. While the place is rather small, my room was cozy and comfortable. Breakfast in the cafe next door was wonderful. The staff in both the guesthouse and cafe were very nice.

Review 109:Bare bones breakfast at darling place next door. Had great water pressure but difficulty getting shower turned off and very tight bathroom but everything about Kinsale is tight, driving!! Parking on street

Review 110:Location, loved the town on the water, great water pressure in shower.

Review 111:Very small room and bathroom. Small bed, and we found hair on the double sheet. Noise B&B zone if you look for quite place to sleep.

Review 112:City center position.

Review 113:Very little, really. I had thought there was parking available on sight - it would have been handy if there was.

Review 114:Location, friendliness of staff, comfort and cleanliness of room

Review 115:hard to find/reach plug to boil water steep stairs could be a hazard for some

Review 116:Friendly and helpful staff Central location Quiet and peaceful Pretty façade Rooms simple but adequate

Review 117:Very cramped room, uncomfortable bed, noisy with thumping and bumpingabove and below late into night. Everything of the cheapest. Dingywalls, dirty carpet in hall, with carpet not tacked down in places.Should be mentioned to clients - there is no parking available, closestis car park about 5 minutes walk away, which is ok - if not raining.Glad to leave - won't ever return.

Review 118:Room was clean, breakfast was good, location good.

Review 119:Enjoyed the whole experience-4 da,ys-people there made our stay a 5* experience. Our twin bed room was compact but spotless, bright & cheery. We heard the birds, lovely trees, & good shower. The breakfast at the Lemon Leaf Café were great, plenty of choices, strong fresh coffee, perfectly poached eggs. Location central to everything. Kinsale gets a little noisy but our room in the back was much quieter. The top sheet on the bed was much appreciated as the duvets get so hot.

Review 120:I thought it was a little over priced. But that could be due to thegeneral expense of Ireland.

Review 121:A nice welcome and continued friendliness from the staff - really likedthe service they share with the Lemon Leaf cafe below where you have adelicious breakfast in a relaxed, bright surroundings. It was greathaving free parking so close.

Review 122:Easy walking distance from the bus stop, restaurants, and waterfront. We're always grateful when staff are willing to carry our too-heavy bags up the stairs -- and back down! Small room, but who cares?! Nice, quiet place to stay.

Review 123:It offers free wifi but was never able to connect.

Review 124:It was right in the city centre and close to everything. The breakfast was very good at the cafe next door.

Review 125:We were unaware that guesthouses and B & B's were not the same. The room and bathroom were miniscule. There is no elevator for old joints.

Review 126:location & breakfast

Review 127:The fellow at the reception desk was very helpful with tourist info. He saved us a parking space right across the street from the B&B by putting a potted plant in the space. Charming breakfast cafe, comfortable room, best location in center of town.

Review 128:Right in middle of town, pub music too loud, drunken singing in street until after 4am, very small room and bath, very basic accommodation, too high priced for what you got. We stayed in much lower priced rooms elsewhere and had much better rooms. Parking was awful! Even driving in streets was hair raising!

Review 129:Right in middle of town, good for walking to pub for evening music, room was clean, staff very friendly and accommodating.

Review 130:Considering all the other budget hotels I stayed in, in southern Ireland, this was quite expensive. The twin room needs to become a "single" room. Pot luck on getting parking outside.

Review 131:Very tasty breakfast but minimal offerings. Great location once you learn to navigate around the roads! Free parking outside but limited parking so you may have to park down the road. If choosing TWIN - it is a very tight squeeze and beds are very narrow. We wished we shared a double! Great shower. Clean.

Review 132:The rooms weren't just small they were tiny. Breakfast was not included in the price and was 5E each at the attached restaurant.

Review 133:Location was excellent. The rooms were clean. Front desk guy Dominic was helpful, if a bit vague.

Review 134:only fault was breakfast in adjoining lemon leaf cafe very disappointing full Irish was'nt nice at all next day went for pancake which were ok my husband went for scrambled eggs was not able to eat them so won't be going for breakfast room only

Review 135:highly recommend a stay here room was small but very clean so close to shops cafes pubs etc

Review 136:Felt price was very high for room size. Tiny shower/bathroom.

Review 137:Staff were extremely "Irish" friendly and helpful. Good location in heart of town.

Review 138:What a gem, the location was fantastic, the staff were super helpful and friendly and the breakfast was delicious. A great place to stay, super clean and very very comfortable. Nice and modern decor too.

Review 139:Perfect location in a quaint town , everything is within walking distance . Our room was quite small but it was comfortable and quiet .The guesthouse mirrored the quaintness of the little town centre and all its tiny lanes and streets .
