Reviews for Grand Hotel Tralee
Review 1:The staff were extremely helpful and did everything they could to make my stay comfortable for me. I would highly recommend this hotel. The location is perfect.
Review 2:The noise downstairs from, I presume people leaving the disco and waiting for taxis was a disgrace it continued from at least one thirty am till three thirty am.
Review 3:The light supper we had the evening we arrived was delicious. The fires lighting was a very comfortable sight
Review 4:The heating wasn't working properly and it was a very cold night. I could hear every footstep in the hall outside our room. Each time someone walked the hall the lights would come on illuminating our room also, it came in under the door and over the curtains on the window which faced another portion of the hotel. The night club which we were unaware of when booking is very noisy, we were told we were in a quiet spot but I could hear them as if they were right outside.
Review 5:The food in the bar was excellent, we had to bring our children last minute, we had a full size cot not a travel cot and a camp bed which was very comfortable.
Review 6:Nothing
Review 7:The location was very central and the hotel had an old world feel yet the room was modern and really clean, the adjoining kids room was fantastic. The food was excellent
Review 8:I was on the 1st floor and the noise from the room above was very loud at midnight with the other guests walking around...... Book on the floor above and all should be perfect
Review 9:The Food was amazing and the staff were so helpful and very genuine. I had a great experience and felt very comfortable. The location in the town was right in the hub and only a skip to everything.
Review 10:Nothing.
Review 11:The room was amazing the staff friendly can't do enough for you. Good food excellent atmosphere warm and inviting. Would love to have stayed longer. Great location
Review 12:Breakfast finished at ten . I little to early .
Review 13:Staff were friendly and very helpful . Room was large , clean and very comfortable . Food in the bar was superb . Had wonderful stay .
Review 14:The breakfast was not really good, some of the cereal was stale, the sausages were not really brown but they were cooked.
Review 15:Lunch in the restaurant amazing Dinner in the bar amazing Room was clean and fresh
Review 16:We rented a car and in the morning we had to spend money so we could enjoy the breakfast freely. Rather than that, it as fine!
Review 17:The breakfast was amazing! I would call it proper! :)
Review 18:The ten minute wait for a seat ti get breakfast. But it was worth the wait
Review 19:Friendly staff; helpful and kind fabulous breakfast in the morning. Lovely clean decorative room
Review 20:My friend decided because we had been out until last the night bbefore that she would have a lie in on the Sunday morning. When she did get up breakfast was served to her at 12:30pm in the bar. I have never seen or heard of this before. Great service and fantanstic breakfast!!! Thanks to the Grand Hotel and all the lovely staff!
Review 21:Unfortunately there is no lift which makes it difficult for old-age pensioners or hanicapped people to get upstairs. The room we were given was not only upstairs but was also a fairly big walk away.
Review 22:The hotel is quiet central and the rooms are clean. The beds are very comfortable and the shower is nice and powerful. As my son and his partner are both vegan, there was a good selection at breakfast for them to choose from. The decor was very tasteful. The staff were quite friendly too. The music in the bar was excellent.
Review 23:The Grand Hotel is the best. Centrally located, great food and very comfortable accommodations. The owner, Dick Boyle is the best, very friendly and loves his rugby! I will stay there again for sure.
Review 24:Central to shops , bars , parking easy on the street at the weekend, all staff very friendly, room was comfortable and bed comfortable no noise from corridor , hotel very clean
Review 25:The premises not having a lift.
Review 26:Staff very efficient and extremely friendly and helpful. Food was excellent and portions very generous. Location fabulous everthing in walking distance.
Review 27:Such a lovely hotel with with lovely staff and food, will definitely stay again. The only thing i could moan about is the pillows on the bed are rock hard, but that is it. Very enjoyable stay
Review 28:The mattress was very uncomfortable. There were 4 of us in 2 rooms and we all had sore backs the next day
Review 29:The hotel was lovely, staff were very helpful. Great breakfast.
Review 30:There were no safes in the room and when I discussed this with the receptionist, she simply stated that a lot of people have told her that. Our room was up three flights of stairs. My husband has difficulty with stairs and when I requested a room change, I got an explanation on how the floors are described differently in Ireland....ground, floor one, floor two...so we really weren't on the third floor. Then, she said,"I bet that you're also going to tell me that we drive on the wrong side of the road," and, after I thought about it, I told her that she was right. Fresh, fresh.
Review 31:They do need to do some more cleaning on mold in bathtubs.
Review 32:Friendly staff, great eggs for breakfast, lovely bar with very helpful bartender on which way to get to Dingle--over Conor Pass which was absolutely beautiful.
Review 33:The food at the breakfast was marginal. The dinner served by the hotel was worse. There is no elevator. So we walked up 4 flights of steps making this a poor choice for anyone not in robust health
Review 34:The location was terrific. Central to the city and yet accessible for traveling to see the nearby Dingel Peninsula. The staff was friendly as well and polite and helpful.
Review 35:It was probably a little expensive for what you get but no more expensive than the surrounding hotels
Review 36:Everything , the staff were really accommodating and happy to help any time of the day
Review 37:only problem was I was with my mum & there was no lift. She is reasonably mobile but found climbing the stairs a challenge. If signalled in advance there was no lift I might have chosen another location
Review 38:central location & great food
Review 39:There is no lift , so a lot of walking up and down stairs.
Review 40:We were to the back of the hotel and heard no noise only from people who were returning to the room at 4.30 am
Review 41:The room we stayed in at the rear of the hotel was fairly quiet and newly refurbished. However, it is a shame that what now seem to be standard items most hotel rooms have been omitted. I.e. No clock/radio or iPod dock so no means of being able to tell the time other than turning the television on, which is not ideal in the middle of the night! Also the beautifully refurbished shower room was not fitted with an extraction fan! And with there being no window this was totally unacceptable and at times very unpleasant! There were also large errors on our invoice when we checked out, and had I not questioned these,we would have been vastly overcharged, which I have to say left a rather unpleasant taste at the end of our stay. I will have to think long and hard as to wether I return which is a great shame as the location is perfect.
Review 42:The location was perfect, and close to all amenities with free parking for hotel guests a short stroll away. Lovely old hotel and the staff were all very pleasant.
Review 43:No elevator, the parking is quite far away (unless you want to pay for the city parking out front), the walls are very thin (New Yorkers will feel right at home ), pricey for the value. The site says that there's bath in double room, however when we arrived no bath was in sight. It seems that the hotel recently renovated the bathroom, and installed big showers instead of baths. Still, false advertising is not good.
Review 44:The shower is great, the location is good.
Review 45:It need a lift only. However everything else met our expectations...
Review 46:This hotel is absolutely fantastic. Friendly staff , delicious food and the facilities are amazing. I will definitely recommend it to my family and friends.. Well done!!!
Review 47:The location of the bedroom - long, narrow corridors and difficulty opening the bedroom door with the key. Also parking is an issue
Review 48:The location of the hotel was excellent , breakfast and staff were also excellent
Review 49:My room 111 was very clean but a bit on the small size. Mirror was in an awkward position for blow drying my hair.! I stayed on a sunday night & on Monday morning I was woken by guys collecting bottles & wheeling bottle bins - VERY NOISEY. Hotel could do with modernising, very dark at reception, uninviting but staff made up for it. There's no car park, so that could be an issue, it was for us.
Review 50:Staff were friendly on arrival and in the bar. Good location, very central. Room was very clean and the shower was great, very powerful. Bar area was nice, good atmosphere, very friendly staff.
Review 51:I don't have any dislikes aside from adding more fruit options for breakfast.
Review 52:Absolutely the best. The staff is beyond excellent. We we're driving from the Cliffs of Moher and were set to arrive around 10pm. We called ahead to let them know of our late arrival. We asked if they would still be serving food and they lets us know their food service stopped at 9:30. We arrived at the hotel around 9:50 and during check in the one of the restaurant staff (Anthony) met us to take a food order! They also took our bags right to our room and we went to the bar. Our food order arrived and we listened to a great Irish 2 man band. We also had the pleasure of being served by bartenders Ger and Anthony. Ger gave us great recommendations for the Tralee area for food and drink and was a joy to talk to. They serve a good, not great breakfast. The hotel is in great location. I recommend and would stay there again!
Review 53:Receptionist with English accent very unwelcoming and unfriendly compared to rest of staff who were excellent
Review 54:Great food great location in town good music in bar
Review 55:No lift as my elderly mother unable to climb a lot of stairs, but staff very helpful with baggage. Beds uncomfortable as mattresses hard but for short stay not a major prob.
Review 56:Great central location and good value for money. Rooms very clean and staff very helpful and friendly
Review 57:Parking could be a little awkward. Luckily we arrived at 5pm and from 5pm to 9.30am the next day you can park on the street in front of the hotel for free, otherwise it's a pay and display area. We left by 9.30am the next morning so it wasn't an issue but it's something to be aware of, but choosing to stay in such a central location this is to be expected.
Review 58:Excellent location in the heart of Tralee. Great facilities, very clean and well presented room, lovely staff, good comfy bed and hearty breakfast. We really enjoyed our stay and would happily return.
Review 59:Awful room. Stuffy and claustrophobic. View onto air conditioning units. Very basic bathroom, without separate shower. Tired and old fashioned feeling. Breakfasts not appealing unless you have a hankering for overcooked food and tinned fruits.
Review 60:Location quite good.
Review 61:The only thing that let us down was the weather.
Review 62:Lovely, helpful staff. Our rooms at the back of the hotel were very quiet and extremely comfortable. Fantastic poached haddock for breakfast.
Review 63:Wifi was huge let down. It only worked well in the noisy bar and barely, if at all, in the room. Breakfast was a mess and just not great for multiple reasons - Mauled over minimal selection, overdone porridge/oatmeal, hit and miss service. Way too many tour buses book in here each and every night and the service seems focused on them. The parking was a huge hassle for those of us who are just trying to keep left. I wouldn't stay here again.
Review 64:The location was great for finding places to eat and access to the Dingle Peninsula. The bed was in a newly refurbished room and it was comfortable. The people who work here are so very nice which is why I feel bad no recommending the hotel.
Review 65:Creaky floor boards in the room above, street noise (boy racers), noisy fire doors
Review 66:The bar food is excellent and we stayed in another Tralee hotel since and came back for lunch at the Grand.
Review 67:-Iron didn't work and asked for new iron and never received it. -Staff weren't friendly. -No elevator in hotel which wasn't listed on hotel details before booking. -TV in bedroom had bad reception.
Review 68:-Excellent location in the heart of Tralee. -Great selection of food for breakfast. -Very fast WiFi. -Great shower. -Comfortable bed.
Review 69:no parking available at hotel when we arrived , sent to an alternative carpark over the road from the hotel , also no elavator
Review 70:fab room , very clean , good staff , good decor
Review 71:The parking arrangements. I wasn't confident leaving my car in the carpark by night. It looked vulnerable in a nearly empty carpark so I brought it around and Parked it on Denny St. That worked ok for me this time because the weather was good. I would have appreciated a shower cap and hair conditioner in the bathroom.
Review 72:The centeral location. Brightness & cleanliness of my room. Helpfullness of staff, particularly the chambermaid who, unasked, left her job to take my bag down to the lobby. The dinner menu in the bar on Thursday night was v.good and reasonable. My friend thought it excellent also.
Review 73:No lift on the hotel and our rooms were a good distance from reception.
Review 74:Rooms were a good size with very comfortable bed, food in bar and for breakfast was excellent. Staff very friendly.
Review 75:On street parking is my small quibble. The meter rate is €1.20 per hour from 8.30am.
Review 76:I would choose this hotel for my visits to Tralee area. The friendly efficient hotel staff make me feel at home. The food is good quality and the bar is cosy. It's very close to the centre of town.
Review 77:No lift
Review 78:Our overall experience of this hotel was excellent, location right in the heart of the town, the bedroom was clean and comfortable, we eat in the hotel bar the three nights we stayed and the service and food were first-rate. The bar and restaurant were the highlights of this hotel, they are beautifully decorated with great charm and character.
Review 79:The hair dryer was old fashioned and produced only a puff of air. Fairly tight on the toiletries, just one shampoo and shower gel between two. No other bits provide, no shower cap etc. We were put in smoking room although requested non smoking. Hard to find parking, circled Denny Street 3 times.
Review 80:Excellent location. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Review 81:Some stair cases are quite steep and rather difficult to climb when carrying luggage.
Review 82:The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The bar food is excellent and good value
Review 83:The only small problem I had was pillows were too hard.
Review 84:Central location, friendly staff.Food was fresh and well presented.Would reccomend it to my Family n Friends.
Review 85:No gym, but who cares. Tralee is a great place to get out and see.
Review 86:Staff was welcoming and professional, location was convenient, rooms have old world character (not plain and modern) , Pikeman bar is busy and a great staff! English and Irish spoken here.
Review 87:Overall experience was fantastic from check in until departure. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Evening meal was very tasty. Family room was 5 star. Breakfast was brilliant. Location great. Will definitely stay here again and recommend to friends.
Review 88:Noise: Loud talking from guest lounge audible 1-2am which staff dampened but did not stop, which they did only after our call, despite it being near front desk. Street noise mostly managed by double glazed windows.
Review 89:Character-filled ground floor facilities. Lovely staff. Clean rooms and comfortable beds. Amazing value & quality in meals served in their restaurant Mon-Thurs.
Review 90:Only thing l wasn't happy with was our shampoo and shower gel wasn't replaced neither was our coffee
Review 91:Staff were great especially younger staff in breakfast room bar great friendly atmosphere overall experience wonderful
Review 92:We ate in the bar on Easter Sunday evening, it was extremely busy which was to be expected. Food was good but service was slow but acceptable.
Review 93:Very homely and traditional. Relaxed atmosphere, great for de-stressing!!Breakfast in morning very good.
Review 94:On check out we met a different receptionist and she never asked how our stay was or if everything was satisfactory.
Review 95:Location. Free wifi even in bedroom. Check in receptionist was very helpful.
Review 96:The walls were paper thin and as it is on the main street there was noise from the street as well as from other guests in the corridors etc
Review 97:Location on the main street
Review 98:There was no parking and you had to pay a €30 deposit for a permit if you wanted to park near the hotel. Building works going on in the hotel and could hear the noise in our room. Wouldn't stay again.
Review 99:It was in a central location. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 100:One way system for traffic in tralee meant we found it hard to find the hotel /no parking /NO LIFT IN HOTEL DID NOT STATE THIS ON INTERNET
Review 101:Comfortable good food lovely staff
Review 102:The building is stunning with original features. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The food is amazing and the atmosphere in the evening is excellent. We will def be staying at this hotel again. Amazing value for money. It says 3star but it really should be rated at 4star!!
Review 103:It didn't bother me, but there is no elevator. Important for people that cannot walk many steps.
Review 104:The pub and restaurant are connected to the hotel.
Review 105:Nothing the staff and hotel were brilliant.
Review 106:Hotel met our every need, staff were fantastic and very accommodating. Breakfast was gorgeous and the scones were to die for.
Review 107:No elevator made carrying bags down 3 flights of stairs difficult for a lot of people, room was tiny and extractor fan from the kitchen below blowing the smell of cooking food in through the bathroom fan constant was not pleasant.no parking.
Review 108:Location was excellent.Bar staff superb.
Review 109:Undergoing renovation and corridors need a facelift as they are quite musty. No lifts to rooms so might not be suitable if you are not good with stairs.
Review 110:Great location. Friendly staff. Good food. Great entertainment. Rooms were good value for the price.
Review 111:Set in the heart of Tralee this is a great place to stay,Bedrooms are warm and comfortable, food fresh and delicious,Staff are friendly, hotel is central to all amenities.Great bar.
Review 112:Bit noisy at night time but we were told about that on arrival and moved to a quieter room at the back of the premises. I appreciated being told that there was a nightclub happening that night.
Review 113:The decor was modern and stylish in the bedroom. Wifi was fast and staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 114:This is a clean well located hotel with very friendly staff and a comfortable old style feel - dark wood and old leather - fantastic! We will use it again when we return.
Review 115:no lift for getting to your room, but staff will bring your bags for you. More expensive than the Imperial hotel a few doors down, but you get nothing extra for your money.
Review 116:nice location, good bar, fancy foyer and competent staff.
Review 117:It's tiny but the only thing that I thought let the hotel down was giving out sachets of brown sauce during breakfast. Put it in a bowl or give out the bottle! The breakfast was great, it's served in a grand wood panelled room and they give out sachets like a fast food outlet. It made it look cheap.
Review 118:The staff were fantastic - couldn't do enough for you. Breakfast each morning was excellent. Bed was superb. Room was lovely Bar in the hotel was excellent
Review 119:Horrendous night sleep before my sisters wedding. The beer garden of a night club was outsider my bedroom window. I asked to be moved during the night as I was wide awake at 1am. They said I could only take the small room next door, which was every bit as loud. I eventually got to sleep at 4am after the final people were told to leave the nightclub. I was bridesmaid at my sister's wedding in Ballyseede the next day. At 65 euro for a single room I expected at least a nights sleep, however I was exhausted for the whole wedding - it ruined my day. I complained to the hotel reception in the morning who initially only offered 10 euro refund on my room. I subsequently asked to speak to the manager who gave me the room for 35 euro in the end. The man was pleasant and apologetic and said that the staff were told to put people needing a good night sleep on the other side of the hotel. This is not something you'd imagine that you need to request from staff. The money made little difference to me, while the gesture was appreciated, as I was happy to pay more to have had a good night sleep before being bridesmaid at a wedding. Overall the worst night sleep I have ever had at either a hotel or a youth hostel.
Review 120:Rooms were comfortable and breakfast was good.
Review 121:Had our rooms at the front so we could enjoy the view out onto the main street but it was a little noisy into the early hours of the morning!!
Review 122:The staff were very friendly and helpful. Got my jug of fresh milk so I could enjoy the tea/coffee facilities in the bedroom. The food in both Pikemans Bar and the main restaurant was delicious and very good value.
Review 123:Room was a little on the small side.
Review 124:Location is excellent & very efficient check in as even though we arrived early the receptionist was very helpful. Hotel is very clean, the food was good. The cost was reasonable and the staff were friendly which is always a plus.
Review 125:The WiFi had a tendency to keep dropping out which was annoying. TV was only tuned into 2 channels. Breakfast although good, wasn't started until 7:30 which is a little late for me; however, I am sure if I had realized this before the morning and asked for something earlier, the accommodating staff would have done something for me.
Review 126:I checked in on a rainy Monday night was greeted as if i was a regular, this was my first stay, and had a great meal in the busy bar of the hotel. Room was comfortable if a little dated but more than sufficient with tea and coffee facilities in the room. Breakfast was good and the server was very attentive without standing over you.
Review 127:I booked a single room, The day I was due to stay my female friend didn't have anywhere booked (we were going to a wedding in a nearby hotel which was booked out) I suggested she could stay with me. It was a single room, most lightly a single bed and wouldn't be ideal but we would manage. We would be back late from the wedding so it would only be a few hours. We booked in, the bed was the smallest bed I'd ever seen and the room the smallest I'd ever stayed in (and I've traveled alot) but that was fine, it was a single room. At 5am we returned, we waited outside the front door for more than 5 minutes in the freezing cold as the night porter was hovering and couldn't hear the bell. When we got in, we spoke a few words to him and went to our room. As we were going up the stairs he came running after us and said it was a single room and we would have to pay an extra €25, I said we had no problem paying the extra money but could we have a double room. He said no and he wanted the money now. He was so stern and rude we felt like criminals. If the room had a double bed I wouldn't have minded paying the extra money, but at 5am this man is chasing two women up the stairs asking for us to now pay €80 in total for a single bed and no breakfast. We paid him. Not only that but the room was freezing, and there was no hot water in the morning. Honestly I would never..ever stay here again.
Review 128:Location.
Review 129:Breakfast was very average and wasn't served as per the order; very loud music at night time; door-staff were overly firm; blanket and sheets rather than a duvet.
Review 130:Location is great; parking is free; shower is strong and warm; night porter was very helpful and friendly; housekeeping were particularly helpful and understanding.
Review 131:Nothing negative to say.
Review 132:Not overly fancy but good value and all the essentials were of a good standard. The bar did a good pint and the staff were nice.
Review 133:No issues come to mind
Review 134:Genuine warmth from staff who were consistently helpful and good humoured. Very high standard of food at reasonable prices. The accommodation was perfect for a family of four. Great buzz in the bar and great to have welcoming open fires in the reception area. Central location and easy parking are an added bonus. Overall an ideal location for a short family break with great amenities nearby.
Review 135:I like everything: staff friendly, good and delicious food in dinner and breakfast! Great location, perfects moments in Tralee I will come back to stay more days and my choice will be The Grand Hotel
Review 136:Good service. All staff were very polite, nothing was too much. Food was lovely and served very quickly. Would highly recommend anyone to stay here. Lovely hotel!
Review 137:There was a nightclub that did not finish until 4am. There was no heating and the room was freezing It took an hour to cook a pouched egg during breakfast
Review 138:It was a nice old fashioned hotel
