Reviews for Smaragdi Hotel

Review 1:As I told before wifi wasn't the best, I would suggest to change the bedsheets more often and meke sure the showergels are at least half full. Thanks again for everything

Review 2:This hotel is amazing. I can recomand for anybody. It's quiet, close to the sea and some great restaurants around, spetialy Posseidon was so good. Our room was a separate building and I think that was one of the best what we could have.spatious with a beautiful bathroom. Wifi signal wasn't the best but never mind. We loved every minute of ous stay. Thanks for everything Ps. as we arrived in the room a bottle of champain was wating for us ;)

Review 3:Not far from the beach. Excellent wifi and ac in the room. Terrific service. We accidentally left a credit card in the room and the staff tried hard to contact us to return it. We did get the card back!

Review 4:Didn't think the breakfast was worth the $$ as there are many restaurants close by which are better value for $$.

Review 5:We booked the suite, it is well worth the money you pay for. Lovely to have the jacuzzi on the balcony after a long day of sight seeing and to relax before dinner at any of the number of restaurants close by. Pool area was lovely with the bar open all day.

Review 6:the bus stop is close, but public transportation in santorini is not so good. rent a car if possible

Review 7:the staff is great, made us a lot of suggestions about what places should we go. the hotel is next to perivolos beach a beautiful place. breakfast is ok

Review 8:Our room was very old fashioned, tiny bathroom and terrible bed. I should have picked a better room and it would have been great

Review 9:Short walk to the beach, beautiful pool with a bar!

Review 10:Great hotel in a perfect location. Staff were amazingly helpful and friendly. For trips where you are wanting value for money this is definitely it!

Review 11:The room I had had no light coming in, so it felt a bit claustrophobic. I wish there were bigger windows that allowed the light on, so you don't feel like you are in a bunker.

Review 12:Amazing staff! Lovely grounds! Location is a winner.

Review 13:Fantastic location walking distance to beach and bus stop. Could walk also to many restaurants near by with many options. Staff were great and helpful place was just amazing, quiet and very relaxing. Would definitely stay again!

Review 14:Pool closes at 8 p.m. - too early for me

Review 15:Amazing staff, amazing hospitality, everything about this place is amazing. The black sand beach is a 1 minute walk, dozens of restaurants and bars are a 5 minute walk away. They have contacts with people who provide ATV's and scooters (I highly recommend you to rent one) and they will come pick you up and take you to the shop. I had to go to the port at 5:50 in the morning, they called a company which dropped me off for 25 Euros (which 3 people shared)

Review 16:Everything. The atmosphere, the decor, the breakfast (although a little expensive, but the variety of food was excellent), the staff, the pool, the location, the info session. Everything was wonderful. Truly my best hotel experience ever.

Review 17:I did not have a bad experience but I would like to share some usefulinformation. If your flight is delayed and you arrive after yourscheduled check in because you missed your connecting flight toSantorini you will still be responsible for paying for the night youcould not arrive, even if you emailed and called them prior to your latearrival. The location is peaceful and lovely on the black beach, but itis a 35 Euro cab ride to Oia each way or a very long bus ride for 2 Euroeach way. It's 20 Euro each way to Fira by cab and a 20 Eurotransfer each way from the airport.

Review 18:The staff was exceptional. They were friendly, professional, andknowledgeable. The breakfast was hearty and delicious. I didn't havetime to swim in the pool or enjoy the Jacuzzi but both were very clean. My room had a tiny kitchenette, hot water, ac, and was very clean. Veryquiet, peaceful location.

Review 19:We stayed in a deluxe studio room for 6 nights. It was very spacious and comfortable. The staff were all so lovely and happy to help. They organised an atv rental for us and had an information session for all of the guests and gave us a map with key areas and places to visit which was great. The free pick up from the airport was convenient so we didn't have to organise transport. The location was fantastic, walking distance to perissa and perivolos beach with lots of nearby options for food/drink. Would recommend this place to anyone visiting Santorini.

Review 20:We had the budget room, but the bathroom shower curtain didn't completely reached the floor, so all became wet anyway. The bed was not a 2p bed, but 2 1p beds, which was a little inconvenient. Value for money was great tho!

Review 21:Staff was extremely kind and helpful, and even let us use all facilities after check-out until our flight (at ~23:00). Also present, free towels to use at the beach, so your own don't get dirty/salty!

Review 22:The upstairs loft had really low ceilings and we kept bumping our heads on the ceiling. Not easy for tall people! Pool closed at 8pm which was too early!

Review 23:Staff was very friendly and helpful. Apartment we rented was super cute and pretty comfy.

Review 24:Everything was great.. May be swimming pool timings after 8 would have been a plus .. But doesn't matter

Review 25:The best part about this place is the location it's a 2 min walk from Persia beach. Also the staff were quite friendly. Overall it was a very good time spent at the hotel

Review 26:What an amazing place! So close to the beach :) The staff were brilliant - full of energy, very informative, extremely helpful and absolutely lovely! We were extremely comfortable in our room, and it was great having free wifi!

Review 27:The most friendly staff we've seen in all the hotels we've stayed, they make you feel right at home from the moment you arrive.Maria and Marina at front desk are very helpful to give you any suggestions and answer any questions you might have. The hotel is very clean and located minutes away from black beach. Would recommend to my friends who want to go to Santorini.

Review 28:Really nice welcomed by all the staff who were at our disposal during our 3 nights at the hotel. They are completely fluent in English and it is really easier than in other hotel in Greece. It is clean, well-located and the swimming-pool is really pleasant. The room is good and the A/C very efficient.

Review 29:Not much i must say. But if there was any i have disliked the shower tray. There was no shower tray meaning all the pouring water was running all over the bathroom:(

Review 30:The pool area was very nice and relaxing even at morning having breakfast could go around the pool while having breakfast. The staff was very helpful too

Review 31:Accommodation was very tight for 5 of us. The mezzanine accessed by very rickety staircase that was very noisy if you needed to use the bathroom in the night. The pool was much smaller than it looks on the photos and the tables from the bar very close to the shallow end. Got the feeling from the staff that they would prefer the children to not be playing in the pool. The hotel staff organised their own vehicle to return us to the airport and charged 47 euros which I thought was a lot.

Review 32:The local beach was nice, with lots of restaurants to choose from.

Review 33:Large 'wedding' group arrived during the week and completely 'took over' the place. It was noisy and the pool area became crowded and a little intimidating. Wasn't really fair on all the other guests for the hotel to accept such a 'mass' booking.

Review 34:The front desk clerks were amazing. They were so patient and helpful with booking taxis. We needed help with the safe in our room twice and the clerk was unbelievable quick and patient when resolving our confusion. The room was modern and spacious and beautiful.

Review 35:- Wifi was free of charge but the signal wasn't good enough. - Buffet breakfast not included in their rates (9€/person/day). - Daily cleaning of the apartaments doesn't include the kitchen utensils. - Apartments come with very basic utensils to cook and have a meal there (they don't count with a microwave, coffee maker or toaster). - Reception is closed from 11 pm to 8 am. There is an emergency dial number but please keep it in mind and arrange accordingly if you need to check-in or check-out within this period. - Apartaments have a small terrace with a table for two. It would be nice to have a folding hood to use it when it is sunny and too hot. - No international channels in the TV.

Review 36:- A very cute hotel builded following local architecture, materials and colors. - Excellent staff. Very helpful. Always smiling and with a nice word for their customers. - Nice pool with jacuzzi, umbrelles, sunbeds and pool bar. Wonderful for a relaxing stay! - Good cleaning of the apartaments and the facilities. Staff clean the apartaments and change towels daily. - Hotel can provide towels for the pool and the beach. - Good location. Next to Perivolos Beach, which is a peaceful black beach. There is a small supermarket closed to the hotel called "Euromarket" as well as the public bus stop "Perivolos" which can bring you to Fira (the capital) and to most important locations in the island from there. - If you request it, there is a free transportation to the hotel at the arrival (with an extra cost at the departure). - If possible, staff allow you to check-in earlier with no extra charge. - There is a welcome meeting where information and maps are given to customers. - A bottle of water and sparkling white wine is provided for free at the arrival.

Review 37:We booked a petite budget room in which there is no complete kitchen, only a fridge and a sink. Although I new that in advance, it would have been nice to be able to prepare some meals in the room.

Review 38:Very service minded personnel. Hotel positioned in close proximity to the beach. Good sized poolarea where you can swim and entertain your suntan.

Review 39:Wi-Fi was a bit slow in rooms but ok in the public areas and a free laptop was at disposal if needed... but this hotel deserves a 10/10. Our unique regret was to leave after only 2 nights.

Review 40:Excellent stay. Staff was very friendly. Pool was perfect after a bath in the very nearby beach. Definitively recommended.

Review 41:Nothing. However if you want a honeymoon style, private, infinity pools etc. stay in Oia and be prepared to pay big prices.

Review 42:Great staff, chilled out, great value for money, everything you need if you want to spend your day visiting beaches and the Caldera, and come back to Smargdi to sleep or rest by the pool.

Review 43:Lighting in bathroom quite dark, location is set back from the beach, hotel doesn't have any sun beds or umbrellas on the (very hot stone pebble) beach so you will have to pay another provider or bring your own.

Review 44:Beautiful room and pool, friendly and helpful staff, magnificent location.

Review 45:Kitchen area equipment could be a little more extensive

Review 46:Location very close to beAch. The cleanliness of the rooms and pool area. The pool and plenty of sunbeds. The staff were all lovely. The fact that there were so many other nationalities staying added to the relaxed feel.

Review 47:Location was very close to the beach, Room is nice and clean, a very good value for the price. The staffs are exceptionally friendly and were willing to help you with everything you need, including booking tours and showing directions to various places.

Review 48:Breakfast not good, not so many choices and the fruit (watermelon) not fresh, quality/price not interesting; WIFI not very stable

Review 49:Great service from the team, very friendly and always smiling like the sunshine (we love it!), very helpful (free airport transport, business centre...)

Review 50:Kitchenette facilities were spare, etc. not any kind of knife. I wonder why all (clean) towels changed every day?

Review 51:Pool was excelent, big enough and well-kept. Also jacuzzi was nice. Location near beautiful peach was great. Staff were extremely frendly. Cleaning was good and they did it every day. Hotel own taxi service was nice extra service to us.

Review 52:It is really very far from fira, takes half hours by bus, and normally the bus is not on time, not convient to visit the Santorini. otherwise there is no any kind of view from the balcony of our room.

Review 53:Staff is so nice and the room is large, the housekeeping is very good. It's very nice the black beach

Review 54:I was very impressed by this family run hotel in Santorini, Perissa. The hospitality was excellent including the breakfast, pool facilities and extremely helpful staff. As an allergy sufferer the hotel went to great lengths to cater for my needs and make my stay a memorable one. Thank you so much!

Review 55:While the hotel is only 100m away from the beach which is great it is still a 20min walk along the beachfront to get to the majority of restaurants/bars. This would not stop me from recommending them however!

Review 56:The staff were SO helpful and really friendly. They could help you with anything and the little 10min induction on your first evening was really helpful. The pool area of lovely and really relaxing. The room we stayed in while basic suited us fine and the bed was really comfy and the wifi great throughout the hotel.

Review 57:The one and only minus was the very low ceiling in the master bedroom but it definitely wouldn't put us off from returning.

Review 58:The hotel/apartments were very clean, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the location was great.

Review 59:Rooms were great, with little kitchenette and outdoor seating area. The pool was wonderful and the sun beds and umbrellas nice. Location was great, within walking distance of the restaurants and bars. Staff were friendly and helpful with recommendations and booking of vehicles to explore the islands

Review 60:It;s a 1/2 block from the beach. The the staff & facilities over compensate.

Review 61:Maria & the front desk team know the Island of Santorini for shopping, dining and places to visit & avoid. They treat you like family. Maria hosts a meeting every evening giving guests an update on whats going on for the day/week. The beach is 2 miles long of black sand, amazing!

Review 62:Great a location: so close to beach. The staff at reception were so helpful: nothing was too difficult. They will make tour or hire bookings, order you food for delivery, give you directions or a beach towel.

Review 63:If you buy anything at the bar and pay cash, keep the recipes. They still take your room number when you pay cash (which we did for everything) and we still had a bill at the end. They did remove the charges. The beds are pretty hard and the washroom wasn't cleaned very well. Don't listen to their restaurant recommendations.

Review 64:The staff were very helpful with helping book ATV and tours. The location is very close to the beach which was nice. Place was reasonably priced.

Review 65:Nothing - it was as good as it could possibly have been!

Review 66:The Smaragdi staff were so exceptionally welcoming and could not do enough for us. The hotel was spotless; not too large and laid out beautifully; our room was perfect for our needs. We could not have asked for anything else.

Review 67:The wifi strenght is not very proper. From the bed it is nearly impossible to connect. Outside of the door the strenght was perfect.

Review 68:The staff was amazing. They are lovely and take care of any problem you might have. You will feel special. The design of the hotel is adorable. The place is so close to the beach and restaurants.

Review 69:It was not very clean, the 9 euros for breakfast was overpriced. You can find better cheaper around the corner.

Review 70:The pool area was nice, the room was large and comfortable for 4 people. It was walking distance to the beach and dozens of restaurant. The staff was very friendly

Review 71:It wasn't in one of the main towns (Oia or Thira), but that suited us just fine! I really liked being in a quieter location, but I know this isn't for everyone.

Review 72:The staff were SO friendly! They were so helpful and had a lot of good advice and recommendations on things to do.

Review 73:Nothing I can think of!

Review 74:This hotel was fantastic. The grounds are extremely well kept and the staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. While this hotel is kind of far from Fira and Oia, the more typical Santorini towns, the beach was so close and this area felt less overrun with tourists. The room was simple but clean and comfortable. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Review 75:Absolutely nothing was bad about our stay.

Review 76:The staff were excellent, so helpful and welcoming! The rooms were amazing, very clean, comfortable and cute. The air conditioning in the room worked well as did the wifi. The pool area was very pretty and a lovely place to relax and sit in the sun. The hotel is only 50 metres from the beach, no exaggeration! It is the perfect place to stay in Santorini and is in a great location and close to the port. The beach was fantastic, so pretty and with great restaurants and cafés only the front with free sun beds. I would recommend the restaurant called ' Kouzina', the staff here were excellent and the food for an evening meal was well priced and tasty. Also, a restaurant/cafe called ' Charina' was great for during the day, they had free su beds and you only needed to buy drink!

Review 77:The staff were always on hand, very friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them. The rooms were spotless and serviced every day. There was a wide choice for breakfast and light lunches. The pool was always clear and clean.

Review 78:Nothing at all

Review 79:Excellent staff very helpful, service second to none, very clean bed changed everyday, breakfast buffet style hot and as much as you wanted, lunch at anytime. Short walk to beach and town, 25 mins from Fira and airport. Swimming pool is excellent Would return if ever in Santirini. 3* with 5* service

Review 80:Nothing!

Review 81:The staff was very accommodating and made my stay in Santorini very memorable. They are very personable and will be of service whenever needed. I will definitely stay here again!

Review 82:We have just returned from a wonderful 10 day stay here, our first time to Santorini and this Hotel and it is absolutely perfect. The staff and owners are friendly and attentive, rooms cleaned spotlessly daily and the location in relation to the beach could not be better. We will return here for sure

Review 83:Hot tub not working - after a long day of touring climbing it would have been nice to have a good soak.

Review 84:Location to beach/ocean. Suited our needs fine.

Review 85:Nothing

Review 86:Quiet location, far from the hustle and bustle. Very accessible for wheelchairs, subject to question for a ' normal ' room on the ground floor. Beautiful and accessible place for a quiet breakfast at the pool. The breakfast buffet is accessible with a few stairs, but there is always a solution for it. Large parking nearby and the possibility to park close to the hotel temporarily to load the suitcases in the car. Restaurants in the quiet (month May) area accessible by wheelchair (50 m from the hotel)

Review 87:The bar food menu had very little available even though it gave you an option of about 8 things! Not a massive concern but if its not available then don't advertise it as so!

Review 88:Staff are very friendly! Maria always takes time out to sit and chat and has plenty of advice if you ask!

Review 89:We really enjoyed stay there as the staff were very kind and friendly. We appreciated that they picked us up at the port which was a great help. If we visit Santorini again, it's the place we would love to stay again. Many thanks

Review 90:We had an upgraded room and it was quite nice. But my cousin had the budget room and it was very basic. Her room her knees hit the wall when she sat on the toilet and she had to hold the shower head to have a shower and the fridge woke her up at night it was so loud. The first night we went to the restaurant that Maria recommended and it was the worst meal we had in Greece. We really felt the staff were told to only recommend that one restaurant so we wondered if the owners of the restaurant were related?? Also I left my eye glasses there by mistake and they wouldn't arrange a courier to sent them on to our next stop so I came home without my glasses very frustrating.

Review 91:The location was great. Close to restaurants our favorite was Meet Me. You have to rent a car if you want to see the rest of the island but you need to do that no matter where you stay. The pool area was beautiful.

Review 92:Great location away from the touristy area of the port and a 3minute walk to the beach. Many restaurants to choose from. Located On south part of island, close to the incredible prehistoric ruins and ancient Thira on top of the mountain. Can easily see the island by renting a 4X4

Review 93:The wifi in room is not very good, sometimes dropped. But except this everything is perfect.

Review 94:The hotel is really closed to the black beach and really nice and quiet in the night! you rent a car here, it is easy to park. Highly recommended!!!

Review 95:From the moment we booked, Maria and her staff worked non stop to make our arrival, our stay and our departure absolutely perfect. They picked us up at the port and brought us to the hotel and always checked in with us to see what we needed. They cleaned the rooms and made them spotless every single day. Maria also did a welcome meeting to acquaint the new guests with the area which was so helpful. We will definitely be back and recommend others to go as well.

Review 96:We have no negatives for this hotel!

Review 97:This is a brilliant hotel to stay in, the value for money is unbelievable considering the price for a lot of hotels on the island. Only 3 minutes walk to the beach. The staff are so helpful and will do their best to assist with anything they can. We enjoyed our stay at the Smaragdi more than our time on the Caldera in Imerovigli

Review 98:Nothing - Everything was perfect! :)

Review 99:Our stay at Smaragdi was excellent! The manager, Maria, was really helpful and so lovely. She took time out to answer all of our questions with great detail and recommended activities that ended up being amazing. All of the other staff were equally welcoming and accommodating. The pool and bar area was really nice and we ended up spending more time there than the beach, which was only a short walk away. The area is very nice and the nearby restaurants looked after us well. Our room was great! It had everything we could want in a room and the beds were really comfy. Smaragdi is the hands down the best place we've stayed and would return without a second thought!

Review 100:We loved the Smargardi. All of the staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful (our pleasant experience there was largely due to them). We liked the location as it was quiet and close to the beach, and didn't take long to reach the other side with a car or scooter.

Review 101:Crazy drivers on winding steep roads.

Review 102:Good location near beach and heaps of restaurants. Away from busier areas of the island, so great for famies with kids or those wanting to relax. Staff are fantastic, pool is great, rooms are very comfy. Short taxi or bu ride to Fira. Perissa a 20 minute walk past about 30 restaurants. Beach beautiful to switch at.

Review 103:Bed is horrible WiFi is slow and even if connection is established the internet is mostly missing

Review 104:Stuff is good Place is quite Fresh towels every day Close to beach

Review 105:Extremely friendly staff. The owner/manager, Maria, schedules daily "welcome" meetings to new visitors. In this meeting, she shares great information about the island, transportation advice, must try foods, and tips about Oia and Fira. She got us a great deal on ATV rental and the volcano island tour. The location is walking distance to the Perivolos Beach, many restaurants, and multiple bus stops. They offer transfers to and from the airport.

Review 106:Smaragdi hotel only offers one pickup or departure transfer withyour stay. It means that they will pick you up from the port butthen you have to find your own transportation to theairport/port when leaving. To me, this proved to be the a very negative point. As a result, you are exposed to the taxi scam. We arrived at the airport and had to take a taxi to the hotel where we were scammed to pay €25 (negotiated from €35) for what is known to be a €20 ride. Plus we were a couple forced to share a cab with two other people! I feel that Smaragdi hotel is part of the scam because they don't offer both pick up and drop off transfers. FURTHERMORE, they like to mention upon arrival that a great thing to do is rent a car from xyz company which has 'convenient' rental return locations at the port and airport. We didn't take this option, but in reality it was just an offer to scam you into renting a car for a day. For anyone staying at this hotel, either be prepared to be scammed when getting to the port or airport or look for another hotel/accommodation that includes both pick up and departure transfers. (It's more common than Smaragdi would like for you to think!)

Review 107:* Staff provided a lot of information on what to do and how to navigate around the island. They also would book things for you.* Clean facilities with access to towels * Access to shower if leaving later on check out day and want to go to the beach

Review 108:-- hotel is on the opposite side of the island from Fira (main town) and Oia (most popular town) -- a bit inconvenient if getting around by bus -- all buses go to Fira -- you must transfer there to go anywhere else. -- hotel pool had way too much chemicals -- burned the eyes. -- breakfast eating area was only poolside (covered but still a bit too hot), no indoor eating area. -- hotel does not provide airport transfer service -- have to use time-consuming buses (transfer in Fira) or expensive taxi.

Review 109:Overall, very nice hotel, with nice big pool and pool area, probably a very good value for Santorini. -- very nice helpful staff, and very good introductory orientation upon check-in. -- we had a nice big room w/ deck and kitchenette. -- Very near nice black sand beach (hot sand!), and beachfront restaurants, bars, etc. -- Hotel provided free ferry port pick up service.

Review 110:Great location just a half block of the strip. They had 6 internet hotspot around the hotel for great internet service any where. Nice bar and great pool. This is the best value for dollar hotel I found during 2 weeks in Greece

Review 111:The broadband didn't work which they later sorted but was still quite slow. Also the telephone in the room didn't work. Staff were ok but from all the other hotels we stayed with the staff here were the least friendliest to us.

Review 112:Pool is great and the outdoor area in general. The rooms were excellent , very comfortable beds , great shower , tastefully decorated. Really couldn't fault our room. We visited Chania , Malia and Ios before staying here and this was by far the best hotel we stayed at. Very relaxing place. Great location for restaurants and the beach.

Review 113:Great location, close to the beach and restaurants. Rooms were comfortable with good facilities. Pool, jacuzzi and grounds were great and well kept. We were a large party but nothing was too much trouble and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 114:The staff were all very helpful, informative and friendly. They made us feel very welcome. The pool is lovely, and I found the pool bar inexpensive. The hotel is a short walk to the beach and some nice local restaraunts. Really enjoyed my stay.

Review 115:It was expensive for adequate but basic accommodation. The breakfast was awful! Avoid if possible.

Review 116:The staff were friendly, the pool was clean and well maintained and the hotel was set back from the beach so quieter than most.

Review 117:The hotel is nice, well designed and has a good location near Perissa beach with a black sand. The staff was very pleasant, hospitable and responsive, especially Maria. We had a wonderful time!

Review 118:The air-condition in our daughters room where old and very noicy. Should be replaced with a new one!

Review 119:The nicest guy met us at the hotel when we arrived in the midle of the night and he had the biggest smile ever! Clean rooms, good location, quiet area. Nice beach with nothing to pay for sunbeds and umbrellas as long as you bought drinks or food. We would like to go back!

Review 120:We only stayed one night as moving across to Naxos the following day. We were greeted by very friendly and efficient staff and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was very clean and comfortable, the pool was lovely and there was a very relaxed feel about it. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Review 121:Having to place ALL toilet paper in a bin instead of in the toilet pan. This bin needs to be emptied at least 3 times/day to maintain a pleasant aroma in the bathroom.

Review 122:Not being bothered by anybody or anything, except comment re toilet.

Review 123:Fantastic staff, make you feel like one of the family. Beautiful location, close to the beach. If you want to go anywhere on the island the staff is happy to help arrange it
