Reviews for Hotel Maximilian

Review 1:For us a blurred glass toilet door was kind of weird.

Review 2:We had a pleasant stay at Hotel Maximilian, the facilities, the staff, the area everything was top on!

Review 3:The Maximilian is a wonderful quaint hotel, owned and managed by a fun and very helpful family! We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to family and friends!

Review 4:We had a small room.

Review 5:Friendly and helpful staff. Close to castles, but also has many other things to do nearby, including the high line an erhenberg ruins.

Review 6:Wonderful family run hotel with a delightful staff - very friendly and hospitable. The restaurant was a great value and the food was excellent. The breakfast in the morning was especially nice. Conveniently close to the area sights if you are traveling by car. WiFi is available in the common areas and there is an elevator.

Review 7:These comments are not what I didn't like. They are meant to give additional information for those looking for a hotel. WiFi in lobby and restaurant areas. Worked fine. Have to pay for service in the room. Not a concern for myself. Might be for others. This hotel is 20kms from Fussen, not the 10km that is listed on Booking.com. If the distance isn't a concern nice place to stay. If your main visit is to Fussen, I would suggest finding a hotel there.

Review 8:Excellent dinners and breakfast. Attentive staff. Ambience of the hotel. Comfortable long single bed.

Review 9:The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful all the time. Food was excellent, facilities excellent and free use of the local superb pool. Can't fault.

Review 10:The rooms are a bit worn. No air conditioning.

Review 11:Wonderful staff, very clean, and great location. Very family friendly. Our kids loved the ping pong table, foosball table, and trampoline. Great value for the price.

Review 12:The staff were the most helpful we met on our entire European vacation. We were able to plan our entire stay based on their advice and it was all included with the ActiveCard that came free with our reservation.

Review 13:The Staff was wonderful and the food excellent. We really enjoyed our dinner and breakfast. Would love to have stayed longer and look forward to going back. Great location with a lot of great things to do nearby.

Review 14:Located just outside of the village, but worked well as a stopover for onward journey this time.

Review 15:We had traveled from Norway, with a stop in Fulda, and then visited Fussen, and needed a place to stay before we go further. There are good walking areas there, and a good kitchen. We met the owner of the hotel before leaving and had a nice chat with him.

Review 16:This hotel was way better than I expected in so many ways. The superior rooms were great. Breakfast was very good, while dinner there was superb both nights. The staff was outstanding, especially the wonderful Gabi.

Review 17:Very, very friendly and helpful owners and staff (Gabby is the best), great restaurant and very good food, very beautiful and clean hotel, very beautiful landscapes, everything was great.

Review 18:Nothing.

Review 19:Very, very friendly & helpful owners/staff who happily gave sightseeing advice: Fantastic people. The town nearby is functional rather than beautiful (unlike some of the gorgeous old towns around here, like Oberammergau), but the little village immediately where the hotel is nestles in a river valley between mountains, ruined castles & the like. Room and big balcony very nice and good inhouse restaurant meant we didn't bother going out for dinner. As long as you have a car it's a great base for exploring a fabulously pretty area (eg Neuschwanstein Castle, Zugspitze mountain cablecars).

Review 20:The staff, all of them, was wonderful, the location was great for those who love the outdoors and was also close (at leat by car or bus) to the castles.

Review 21:We enjoyed our stay at this quaint hotel in Austria. We loved the kind and friendly welcome as well as the spacious room with a beautiful balcony view. The breakfast was classy and cozy with an amazing buffet and friendly service staff. The location was perfect for seeing the castles and the advice they gave us to see the Linderhof Palace was helpful. We enjoyed our stay and would visit again when returning to Europe.

Review 22:The restaurant was closed for dinner-not their fault at all just unfortunate for us. If you stay here make sure you have dinner at the hotel, you won't be disappointed!

Review 23:Everything! Gabi is one of the nicest hosts you could ever meet. This is our second trip back .

Review 24:Leaving. We knew that where our travels took us next would be less thanour experience here. My girlfriend got emotional while we werediscussing the fond memories we already had. The room (the second wehad) was smaller than the first - but as we spontaneously added anotherday here, Gabi took care of us and got us in. The wireless connection inthis second room was poor, and I had to make a late call on Skype tolocate my luggage.

Review 25:From the moment we checked in (late evening) and were invited to therestaurant before they closed, we were amongst family. Our needs alwayscame first for the duration of our stay, from the moment we were handedthe key to drop off luggage upon entering without checking in.Gabi is running a wonderful hotel and restaurant, that is the very best experience in a hotel I have ever had. I have stayed at 'nicer' hotels, where you have an air of 'money' and typically formal/cool attitudes from hotel staff, but I will not ever forget my stay here because of the warmth that she and Eda convey to their guests. Its personal for them. With luggage lost by the airlines, Gabi was eager to ensure our stay was better by loaning me a robe so I could deposit our clothes in her care for cleaning. Ready the next morning outside our door, for a total of ten euros (far less than the service at other hotels - i.e. 6 euros for pants, 3 for a pair of socks) and without hesitation taking them again at 11pm the next day. She even worked on getting us tickets to the castles...The complimentary breakfast was abundant in choices, from breads, cheeses, meats, fruits, pastries, juices, coffee, cereals and on it went. If you leave hungry, you didn't try hard enough...I don't like gushing, but I really have a sincere respect for Gabi's approach to her work. Like another couple we met there, who travel to Europe every two years (this time to Scotland, England, and Ireland), we will go out of our way to come here again. It was their 4th or 5th visit.Only half an hour or so from Neuschwanstein, Hohenschwangau, and close to Linderhof, Zugspitze, Wieskirche, it keeps you away from the touristy areas and gives you the feel of the local character, nevermind the beautiful mountains you are forced to look at! Gabi gave us passes to ride the tram/lift and handed us jackets (that fit!) as she told us it would be cool up there.

Review 26:When asked what the 50 euro charge was for, Gabi explained that is to protect themselves from those who book online but do not show up. I do not think it is reasonable, but did not want to argue that to ruin my vacation. Carpet is not clean at all and the towels are very old and worn out. Some new towels are needed for this place. Wifi is not free, and for 10 euros, you can get internet access in the room but it is quite anemic.

Review 27:Nice country setting. Food was pretty good. The play room with ping ping, pool table was a good touch.

Review 28:Small thing - but shower in room 5 could have a better shower curtain to avoid it clinging to you!

Review 29:Excellent restaurant, with reasonably priced food that was delicious. All service throughout the day and evening was fantastic. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Light and airy room, which was very comfortable.

Review 30:Free wifi was only available in public locations - in room wifi is extra - not a deal breaker.

Review 31:The staff was great and went out of their way to make us welcome and assist with planning our sight seeing in the area. We were traveling with a teenage daughter sharing our room and the room set up was great with a separate upper level. There were lots of amenities around the property for younger children - such as indoor and outdoor play areas. The restaurant was great (we had dinner there both nights) and the breakfast included with our room price was the best among the 5 places we stayed in Austria with an excellent selection of quality items. The location was fine for touring the attractions in Bavaria. We recommend this hotel.

Review 32:It rained much of the time that we were there, but we can't really expect the hotel staff to adjust the weather for us, now can we?

Review 33:The friendly service, the extremely reasonable prices, the knowledgeable & helpful staff, the family atmosphere, etc.

Review 34:The owner and hostess Gabbi attended to all our needs and went out of her way to make sure we made the most of the sites and the surrounding area. We were welcomed upon our arrival and the service was wonderful. Food at the restaurant was very good and the breakfast was excellent. The dining area was very modern and well appointed. Service was top notch. I would say here again and would recommend this lovely place to anyone traveling in this region!

Review 35:showerhead was too low

Review 36:very attentive staff

Review 37:Small bathroom

Review 38:Wonderful meals. Laundry service. Great value!

Review 39:Upgraded our room, but it didn't have free WiFi. Free WiFi was only in the lobby.

Review 40:We liked everything!!! Great place for a holiday! Excellent location, food and staff! We'll definitely return one day!

Review 41:Staff very helpful

Review 42:Excellent Staff. Very friendly, clean, excellent food.

Review 43:I liked everything.

Review 44:Clean, comfortable & friendly. Great breakfast & quiet.

Review 45:i will always remember the Garlic soup... excellent.

Review 46:Everything about this hotel was lovely thank you

Review 47:Wi-fi is free only in lobby and the quality is poor. Wi-fi is paid in the room.

Review 48:The room and especially bathroom were superb. I like them.

Review 49:Nothing bad to report.

Review 50:Restaurant menu and food were excellent. A super stay - comfortable, clean and with excellent staff and attentive owner.

Review 51:The greeting from the staff, the food, the welcome from the owner

Review 52:Nothing

Review 53:Gabby and family make you feel taken care of, and make sure gabby knowswhat you like and she will give you grat ideas

Review 54:Could not stay longer

Review 55:Location, view, proximity to ski resort for hiking, castle ruins, Neuschwanstein castle

Review 56:Wonderful staff, great food in their restaurant, very cozy place.

Review 57:Bathroom rather small.

Review 58:Really good hotel with a wonderfull staff. Really good restaurant and big spacious rooms.

Review 59:Leaving!

Review 60:The restaurant on site was awesome.

Review 61:Wonderful welcome, attentive and personalized care, beautiful locale, warm, friendly, casual atmosphere, spotlessly clean, and great value for money.

Review 62:Excelent breakfast. Nice staff. Cood rooms.

Review 63:Bit noisy rooms but at night quiet.

Review 64:Everything

Review 65:Poor location , expensive. Not friendly

Review 66:Helpful staff with great local knowledge and good recommendations. Excellent choice of tasty food.

Review 67:Very pleasant stay, and frendy personal.

Review 68:We couldn't have been more pleased when they offered laundry service with a 2 hour turnaround!

Review 69:Only a minor thing - the bathroom/toilet in the room is great and new but, having a glass sliding door, didn't offer as much privacy than a normal door.

Review 70:Great management and staff - courteous and efficient. Breakfast couldn't be greater and Gaby, the owner, was very helpful and accomodating. The place has a nice austrian touch and the restaurant is also top-level. It would be very difficult to not enjoy a stay there.

Review 71:Location is beautiful and convenient to town and sights. Hotel is adorable, comfortable and clean. Staff is helpful, warm, and feel like family. Dinner and the restaurant was amazing. Free breakfast felt like a fancy Buffett, kept us full for our fun filled day. We had a wonderful time and would recommend friends and return at any chance.

Review 72:Internet connection from the room (second floor) was slow with many disconnections.

Review 73:Friendly staff; they gave us several trip ideas in the area. Room was fine; children were separated. Hotel has lots of old things in the corridors; old type writer machine, porcelains, pianos. My wife and the children could play on the piano. Buffet breakfast was still not boring after 4 nights of stay. There was heating in room in second part of April (outside temperature was around 13 Celsius). Because we had a longer trip with more hotels, we welcomed the washing + drying service as well.

Review 74:Should be placed on Booking that several ludic activities are payed (they exist in the hotel but we have to pay for it, for example pool, etc.)

Review 75:Staff increadible, very frendly Room very clean every day. Nothing to point out. Hotel in Austria but in the border with Germany, very accessible, beautifull landscape.

Review 76:The staff at Hotel Maximilian were beyond fantastic. They really went out of they're way too help us out. We went without a car and she even gave us a ride when we missed the last bus! The room was also very comfortable with super fluffy blankets. Also the restaurant was reasonably priced and absolutely delicious. We ate there every night for our four stay and never got bored.

Review 77:This is a wonderful hotel that is operated by a family. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. Facility was clean and comfortable. Food was superb. Location is incredible, views of mountains and adjacent to river. Walking and cross country skiing trails adjacent to hotel. Lots to do in local area. Recommend highly.

Review 78:Inside of the hotel is too dark and too cold.

Review 79:There is a balcony in the room but it is useless in the colder season. Summer would be nice as the room will be bigger.

Review 80:The location was wonderful and our room had magnificent views of the mountains. The restaurant is a modern surprise for the hotel and the food was wonderful.

Review 81:Our room's carpet needs to be replaced soon. The elevator didn't go to our floor so there was a flight of steps to navigate with our luggage.

Review 82:Very friendly well run inn. Restaurant in the hotel was very good, with a good variety on the menu. Very good breakfast was included.

Review 83:Met by owner upon arrival. Felt part of the family during ur stay. Within 1/2 hour drive to castles in Germany but away from the crowds. Very nice.

Review 84:Free Wifi only in room. Surroundings are very different from the pictures.. I did not see any animals, and lake is not nearby.

Review 85:Staff incredibly nice and helpful. Great for families with children, lots of play room. Super clean, charming, cosy. Good breakfast.

Review 86:A beautiful place. They made us feel like at home or better. They helped us to organise activities in the area, the hotel is really nice, food is excellent, and everybody is helpful. After spending our holidays in Germany, Austria and Paris, the best place for everyone in my familiy is Maximilian Hotel. We want to come back.

Review 87:Reutte is the least interesting town we visited. It appears to lack thekind of town square/pedestrian area with a concentration ofrestaurants that so many other European towns have.

Review 88:Located in a beautiful area. Larger than average room. Excellentrestaurant (best meal I had on the trip--try Gabi's favorites).

Review 89:The shower in our quad/family room was almost impossible to use due to tucked under s slanted ceiling. If you are more than 4' 6" tall, you will hit you head on the ceiling. I had to sit down to shower (6' tall). This might have been unique to our room (#43).

Review 90:Charming hotel with friendly staff.

Review 91:Wonderfully friendly owner and staff. Great breakfast. Good restaurant. This hotel was awesome. They did our laundry, and tried to meet our every need. Very good value.

Review 92:Wifi in guest room could be better.

Review 93:Spacious superior room in comfortable family hotel. Good breakfast and good dining facilities. Friendly and helpful personnel.

Review 94:This hotel was extremely kid friendly! We had planned to stay 2 nights, but extended our stay as our two young boys (5 & 3) wanted to stay on. Gabi was an amazing host. The rooms were comfortable and spacious. A indoor and outdoor kid play area with trampoline. Our room had a spare room for our boys with bunk beds. The restaurant had fantastic food and well priced. Breakfast included was great! We couldn't fault this hotel and wish more hotels were this accommodating towards families.

Review 95:The lady at the reception was extremely rude, arrogant and impolite.Every single question, E.G. about the internet, parking etc. made herfurious. The hotel indicates on the website that it provides free 2 hourentry to the Alpentherme thermal spa baths. However, the lady was veryreluctant to give us the invitation, and we had to insist on it. By theway, the invitation is only valid for the swimming pool, but the hoteldoesn't bother to specify that. Moreover, that night the hotel wasvery noisy and full of the cigarette smoke due to the wedding which wastaking place there. If you have the choice, please book another hotel. If you decide to book this hotel anyway, I would strongly recommend tocontact the hotel in advance to make sure that there is no wedding onthe same night, because otherwise your stay can turn into the samenightmare which happened to us.

Review 96:Breakfast was good

Review 97:Great country location near a river. We stayed two nights to break up the drive from Stuttgart to Salzburg. Great views of near-by Alps. Close to King Ludwig castles.

Review 98:There was nothing whatsoever not to like.

Review 99:Superb hospitality, from a very helpful, pleasant and friendly team who go above and beyond to make your stay an enjoyable experience, particularly from Gabi who manages the hotel. Very knowledgable of the local surroundings to make sure you see the very best of what the area has to offer! The nearest 'home from home' hotel experience we have ever had - nothing was to much trouble - we will definitely be returning! Thank you for making our Christmas extra special! :-)

Review 100:Nothing negative at all all about this hotel.

Review 101:What's not to like? Beautiful location, beautiful hotel and rooms, restaurant superb and the owners simply could not be more friendly and helpful. I'm planning on a return visit.

Review 102:The owners were especially interested in our well-being and daily vacation plans. The morning breakfast was very good, as was the dinner. Very high recommendation.

Review 103:Great hotel with great food. The hosts (hostesses) were extremely friendly and helpful! Fantastic location near to castle, hiking, skiing (winter-time). Simply a well recommended place to stay!

Review 104:In the room, where we were staying, a small route is nearby. it was a bit noisy so i could not open the window, but as it was summer season, it was quiet hot, a fan or an A/c could be a satisfying solution.

Review 105:If you have kids, it is the place where you can spend the night with your family. This hotel is very family friendly and we really enjoyed staying. There is an in and outdoor games for children and the hotel proposes special menu for kids at a very reasonable price. The personnel is excellent and the hotel owner very respectful.

Review 106:We had a great stay. The owners and staff were all fantastic - very welcoming and helpful. Both the breakfasts and the dinners were not only excellent, but very good value. The location was perfect for visiting all the destinations in the area - a short drive got us to some stunning places! We would love to come back and stay again.

Review 107:Fabulous hotel with a very helpful and courteous staff! I cannot sayenough how helpful and friendly the staff is here. I was traveling with2 young children, and one of my boys became ill shortly after wearrived. We received information and assistance from the staff. Inshould mention that besides the staff, the restaurant was fabulous. Wetravelled around several countries over the course of 14 days, and thiswas our best meal. Garlic soup! Amazing. The facility was great. Kidshad a blast playing in the game room downstairs (ping pong especially). The rooms were comfortable as well. An a+ staff makes this a great stopfor couples and families alike!

Review 108:Great little hotel with a great location. Close to hiking trails of all skill levels. Pet friendly. Short drives to many Bavarian attractions. Highly recommended!

Review 109:The location is bit out of town, so you probably need a car to see things in the area. This should not stop you from staying here - the hotel and area are very nice.

Review 110:The staff were very nice. We had dinner at the restaurant and it was excellent.

Review 111:A little bit outside the city centre, and the lake itself parking - itwas mentioned that the parking in on the spot, and there is no need ofreservations, but there were days that we were struggling to find aplace (and we were not staying there during the weekend)

Review 112:Great breakfast (though coffee was mediocre) bikes "rental" (free ofcharge) comfy bed restaurant in the hotel (menu changed daily) not overpriced nice view on the mountains
