Reviews for Ballyseede Castle
Review 1:I was charged for cash back which is not acceptable, when i was already buying something and was not told that you charge commission on cash back. also some members of the bar were a bit unpleasant to deal with.
Review 2:Food was tremendous, some staff were very nice and friendly.
Review 3:What an amazing hotel! The staff are lovely, they were all so helpful and the lodge where we stayed was just so nice. The food was very enjoyable also.
Review 4:This was an amazing place to stay. It was like being in Downton Abbey. The staff were so helpful & friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. I loved the fact that this was a family run castle you could see pictures around and the 3 dogs were so friendly and beautiful. I would definitely recommend and have been recommending Ballyseede Castle to everyone I know!
Review 5:Thank you to the staff at Ballyseede Castle Hotel for giving us such a wonderful experience. We only stayed for one night but we both loved it so much, the room was gorgeous, food delicious and customer service truly excellent. Ballyseede is an amazing place to visit, we would highly recommend it to anyone!
Review 6:Homely, cozy and relaxing stay. Delicious local fresh meals served by friendly well trained staff. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay for the 1 night. Nice little touches with coffee and tea for guests in one of the main rooms. We were so well taken care of from the minute we got there to the minute we left. Highly recommend this beautifully maintained historical castle hotel.
Review 7:At the time of booking I didn't understand that my reservation was not for a room in the actual castle. I think there could have been more information about this so I could have booked the correct accommodation from the beginning. I feel very fortunate that the staff put us in a room in the castle despite my error.
Review 8:We liked everything about this place. The staff were very accommodating especially when I found out I did not book a night in the castle but in the smaller house closer to the entrance, they put us up in a room in the castle. There was a wedding taking place and the staff made us feel just as important. The entire castle was decorated for Christmas and felt warm and comfortable. Higgins the Irish wolfhound followed us around outside and had great manners.
Review 9:The shower wasn't all that great and I found the wifi signal a bit weak.
Review 10:The room was beautiful and I loved the view of the gardens. You couldn't stay here without a car. We were upgraded from the lodge which was nice. I told them in advance I was vegan and they made a breakfast especially for me. It was so nice of them.
Review 11:The room was a little cold when we got in early evening but itwas November and it was a huge room! Once the heating kicked in,it was fine.
Review 12:Inside the house was lovely and grand but the staff were friendly andwelcoming and not at all stuffy. When we said we wanted to visit theDingle peninsula they gave us a special map and gave us tips where to goand not to (I had wanted to go to Castlegregory but storm Barney wasraging so they suggested it was too wild for that road.
Review 13:The windows in our first room leaked but it is an old building and they upgraded us to a better room. It was a bit far from town but it was also raining and would not have seemed so bad if the weather was better.
Review 14:The staff there was amazing. Ester the waitress for our breakfasts gave us great recommendations for where to go every morning and even gave us books with flapped pages to help us. If you asked for anything they did it in minutes.
Review 15:No complaints.
Review 16:It was a special experience spending the night in a castle. This Castle is gorgeous, our room was huge and the bathroom was beautiful. I was concerned the reality of staying in a castle was not as good as the idea of it, that it would be musty and outdated. Not so, they have updated everything, very comfortable. Great breakfast in a gorgeous stone walled room.
Review 17:This place was amazing! Coming from Australia this was my first time to Ireland and staying at the castle was one of the highlights of my trip. Will be back again one day!
Review 18:Wish there was AC or a fan in the room as they get very stuffy at night. Had to keep my window open for fresh air.
Review 19:Gorgeous hotel, delicious food! A wonderful stay.
Review 20:The hairdryer had been wired into the wall of the bedroom but you couldn't see yourself in the mirror as the hairdryer didn't reach.
Review 21:The breakfast choice was great, both the buffet table and the choice on the menu. The staff were very attentive and would chat to guests finding out what they were doing for the day and give local knowledge.
Review 22:Rooms were not ready at 16h30 when we arrived and no hot water the night and following morning.
Review 23:The location/surrounding area, friendly staff and room.
Review 24:1) Some room decor needs replacing/maintenance (in Yeats room window seat covers, curtain tie backs need replacing)
Review 25:Highlights were: 1) the room (Yeats) 2) quality of food 3) prices of food/beverages 4) staff - Eddie, Joe, Ester, Hazel and Rory were great 5) surrounding rooms (elegant, beautiful rooms to lounge in) and beautiful grounds 6) castle donkeys and dogs were a pleasure
Review 26:The Yogurt at breakfast could have been better.
Review 27:I was there for a wedding. The whole weekend was extremely comfortable and relaxing in a beautiful Castle and grounds. The staff were always professional and helpful.
Review 28:Difficult to find, even with the local Garmin. Even the staff had trouble giving us directions when we called.
Review 29:Staff was friendly and attentive(as were the Castle's dogs!). Property, rooms, etc. were fabulous for the price. Other guests were also sociable.
Review 30:Our room was on the top floor and super hot (I'd say 80-85 degrees). They didn't have fans or air conditioning so it was uncomfortable. My breakfast was eggs Benedict and it was over cooked which was disappointing but not bad enough to send back.
Review 31:Good staff and comfortable rooms
Review 32:Nothing bad - except no view at all from the room.
Review 33:We liked Joe who served us breakfast - very friendly - he made a great start to our day - the stone room for breakfast was a delightful surprise. Hazel looked after us for our evening meal and she was friendly, sweet and efficient. Room and bed were lovely.
Review 34:No real bellman for luggage. I prefer to carry my bags but didn't see much of an option.
Review 35:Einstein the family dog made our stay. The rooms are very nice and the country atmosphere is a plus. The donkeys on property is pretty cool also.
Review 36:Didn't feel that the website adequately described the Lodge facility or it's location. The website lists that it is only a 2 minute walk, however you are unable to see the castle and the Lodge is a new build which is used to store excess furniture from the main building. Staff checking in was abrupt.
Review 37:The "front door" was not locked and we didn't know that until a couple opened the door. Had a little trouble getting it locked!
Review 38:Room was great even if it was in the Lodge and not the actual castle. King size bed.
Review 39:There was a problem with the lock that locked in my parents. The night time operations/facilities person was unable to fix until the morning crew arrived.
Review 40:Bedroom too small, nearby highway noise, and especially didn't like that property had dogs inside the hotel. If I had known this, I would have booked elsewhere. I feel that we overpaid for what was delivered by the hotel. dour staff, confused staff, poor service in pub. I had to ask bartender to remove dog from pub because of doggy smell. I Would not staf at hotel again.
Review 41:I enjoyed the common rooms.
Review 42:The only let down at first was that we were booked in the lodge and not the castle itself. My mistake. In the end we were glad that was where we stayed. The room was great.
Review 43:We stayed there at the end of our trip and just enjoyed the grounds and atmosphere. The food and hospitality was great.
Review 44:Our room was hot as we were unable to adjust the heating on the radiator as no adjustable thermostats, had to leave windows open
Review 45:The setting was superb, decor of castle amazing, food excellent, loved the 4 poster bed
Review 46:One bedspread had some blue sticky substance along the side - we guessed it was a toothpaste gel - that my daughter managed to get all over her. It also would have been nice to stay directly in the castle , but can't really complain as the room in the lodge was lovely as stated. A bit pricey considering we didn't actually stay in the castle...but again positives far outweigh the negatives
Review 47:The grounds are lovely, as you might expect. We had a family room in the lodge, which is very close to Ballyseede Castle - a stone's throw really. The room was large and lovely, beds were beautiful and a very large bathroom as well. Very comfortable room. The castle itself is gorgeous and the rooms were spectacular.
Review 48:Pity we couldn't get the kettle fixed for a cup of team while we were staying in the Lodge. In every other way the staff were so helpful
Review 49:Wonderful setting and helpful staff
Review 50:A refrigerator in room to store liquids in would have been most convenient.
Review 51:We stayed in The Lodge and it was absolutely lovely and the staff was wonderful! We loved meeting Mr. Higgins as well.
Review 52:We loved everything about Ballyseede! They advertise "resplendent grandeur" and that phrase aptly describes everything about this castle experience. The castle and grounds exude refined elegance, the staff are all extremely gracious and the food delicious. Ballyseede is well deserving of our very highest recommendation regarding every aspect of our stay.
Review 53:A visit from Hilda, the ghost, who scared me by causing the light fixture in the bathroom to crash late at night.
Review 54:The staff was very helpful. Esther even gave us maps and brochures for our day trip to the Dingle peninsula. Joe was great in the breakfast room, always asking if everything was okay.
Review 55:Wifi was not great.
Review 56:The castle was a really cool place to stay. My daughter loved talking about the "ghost" and history of the place with the staff.
Review 57:I had to leave. I could not book for 2 nights in a row.
Review 58:The staff was fabulous, friendly, helpful, accommodating and entertaining. The rooms were gorgeous and oh so comfortable. Slept like a babe. The grounds are beautiful! Anyone going, please give Joe a jokingly hard time and tell him thanks for the honey comb trip advice.
Review 59:We were given complimentary access to a play in the grounds. The staff were excellent especially Mary and Joe who were very helpful. We would love to stay here again.
Review 60:Suggestion - adding a bottle opener to the tea / coffee tray.
Review 61:We stayed in the lodge house and it was very private and relaxing! The family room for four adults was very spacious, super clean and the toilet was very cute. All staff in the hotel were very friendly and the breakfast was nice too.
Review 62:Needs free wifi in the guest bedrooms.
Review 63:Staff buying in to the owner`s vision of a special reincarnation of an historic and exceptional house; as a great hotel.
Review 64:Unfortunately no wifii in the room but we made it work for us by enjoying the many other rooms and checking in with family and friends bragging about the accommodations!
Review 65:The hotel was amazing and the staff were wonderful. We wish we had booked 2 nights there. Great value for what you get.
Review 66:The Balleyseede exceeded our expectations from the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out. This is a lovely castle/hotel and we only wish we could've stayed longer.
Review 67:There were no sockets at a reasonable height Had to move some furniture to use the tea/coffee facility and watch TV Room was partly below ground level
Review 68:Brilliant location in lovely grounds Old world charm
Review 69:We arrive a little late, but the staff had the cook stay late to prepare us dinner even though the kitchen should of been closed. The late evening tea and cake service was wonderful in the drawing room. Kids loved feeding the ponies the next morning. The resident ghost Hilda made an appearance during our stay. Overall a great time
Review 70:We were greeted by the owner Rory and several staff members who promptly took us to the Monroe room. A spacious and beautifully decorated. The grounds arebeautiful and the staff particulary attentive.
Review 71:WiFi only worked in public areas, and even there it wasn't consistent.
Review 72:Our kids felt like royalty staying in a castle, the rooms are large and comfortable, the breakfast is delicious with lots of options. The location is easy driving distance to Killarney National Park and Dingle Peninsula.
Review 73:No room in Castle so stayed in The Lodge which was ok. Shower head was broken but we got it to work. Only there 1 night.
Review 74:Castle grounds lovely and food was great. Nice walk from Lodge to Castle
Review 75:They charged us 7 euros more for the room than when booked. We inquired about the discrepancy but they didn't change it. We didn't want to leave on a negative note because we really enjoyed our stay so we let it go.
Review 76:The staff, building And grounds.
Review 77:Quality of bathroom towels could have been better.
Review 78:Everything! Spent a lovely overnight here, had an excellent dinner and staff were most helpful and friendly.
Review 79:GPS co ordinates in our hire car GPs let us down badly so our time @ the castle was reduced :(
Review 80:Fabulous Irish Castle Wonderful rooms food was great and so was the friendliness loved the Irish donkeys and of course Mr Higgins
Review 81:The only problem is we didn't get to stay in the castle, which wasthe only reason we detoured our trip to go though Tralee. Beware - ifyour room says 'at the lodge' you are not in the castle, you arein an outbuilding far down the driveway. I was very unhappy as otherthan the phrase 'lodge' there was no mention of this when Ibooked the room. The staff insisted it was clear on the website - itabsolutely was not, even going back and looking for it. It was aperfectly nice room but a waste of a night for us, and not a good value.
Review 82:The castle was beautiful and the breakfast was outstanding. The room wasspacious and well equipped for a family.
Review 83:Ambiance, location, gardens, breakfast. The castle is booked for the whole summer, so if you want to stay there book well in advance (8 months for us).
Review 84:We liked the decoration which was done well to play up that it was a castle, the grounds were lovely and our room had a nice view of them. We liked being able to take a drink from the pub to one of the parlors and read (although service in teh parlors would have been even nicer). The bed rooms had good modern amenities even with the castle atmosphere. The service at dinner and especially at breakfast was great. Breakfast, included, was very nice. We paid a fair bit for dinner but it was worth it to have a leisurely night in the castle. I'm sure there are more lavish castles but, for the price, we felt we had the castle experience at a bargain and it was just right.
Review 85:The website fotos was a bit misleading we wanted to stay in castle but ended up in the lodge still very nice
Review 86:The staff Joe and Ester was very nice and helpfull
Review 87:Excessive photos of a family who own the place but do not live there. This gives the place a 'Kardashian' appearance which not pleasant. Need to concentrate on the ancient history rather than a concocted current history. Need more dining areas for bar food that are not low tables. Less photos would give you more table space.
Review 88:Staff, location, ambience
Review 89:it was a lovely experience, except for the weather, which nobody can help. We enjoyed a delicious dinner, great service with very friendly staff. Great breakfast to get us on our way and we had a gentleman waiter who was very attentive and funny despite it being busy. Didn’t feel at all rushed and I have to add, the best scones I have ever had. A very nice experience.
Review 90:Nothing
Review 91:The grounds, rooms, public areas, staff, food and most importantly animals make this castle very special indeedy...How lovely to have linen tablecloths & napkins for breakfast, yet play fetch with the bar dog for dinner. Thus place was the perfect time out place for us in the middle of our Ireland wanderings
Review 92:The one thing I didn't like was that we didn't stay longer.
Review 93:The facility the end beyond the room the staff everyone and everything was outstanding.
Review 94:Shower could use a curtain to contain the spray - otherwise this place was great!
Review 95:The staff here treat you like a king. Esther in the breakfast area is an INCREDIBLE hostess!! The dogs were a great treat for the kids. Rooms in the "lodge" were very nice.
Review 96:Be sure to ask if there is a large wedding during the night(s) of your stay. Didn't sleep a wink because of the wedding.
Review 97:The idea of staying in a castle on our honeymoon was great to us. Staff was pretty friendly. LOVED THE dogs that stayed on the property.
Review 98:An amazing building with 5 star luxury. We stayed in the lodge which was also lovely. Dinner was good but breakfast could be improved - once the dishes on the buffet table were empty - no one replenished them.
Review 99:I loved the property, the staff were amazing, and I had a blast hanging out with the dogs, horses, and donkeys. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend this to other family members and friends.
Review 100:Felt price of dinner was too high for the quality. It also took very long.
Review 101:lovely place and accommodation. Outside garden nice too. Food and beverages good.
Review 102:I wish the Wifi was available in the rooms.
Review 103:We loved this place! It was our one splurge on our vacation and I am so glad we did. The 5 course meal was delicious for dinner. The entire castle and grounds were so beautiful and we loved just wandering around exploring.
Review 104:We had our reception at Ballyseede castle this month, we loved every minute of it, the food was fantastic and we couldn't have been looked after better by the staff; it's such a beautiful looking venue and my wife and I and our 175 guests always felt at ease,
Review 105:Our stay at Ballyseede was 100% perfect. There is absolutely not a single bad thing I could say about it.
Review 106:The grounds and castle were breathtaking, the staff were beyond wonderful and the atmosphere is peaceful and inviting.
Review 107:The grounds were lovely. The menu was good.
Review 108:Noisy room under the bar. Placed parents and children's rooms at opposite ends of the hallway. This was upsetting and they would not change. They king beds were not attached. The restruant staff was excellent. The food was very good.
Review 109:Poor service. No one offered to help us with our bags, wait staff were indifferent and sometimes abrupt. Room did not have adequate plugs for electronics. Shower water ran hot and cold..in bursts. Staff dismissed my complaint as "just how old pipes are."
Review 110:Beautiful old manor house and grounds. Great location to visit the Dingle peninsula.
Review 111:The grounds are limited for walking but the gardens are nicely layer out to look out at and enjoy
Review 112:Homely yet stately. Beautiful proportioned rooms and tastly decorated. Very relaxing stay. very friendly and most helpful staff.
Review 113:None of us could get a consistent WIFI signal. It didn't detract from our stay but is an essential these days.
Review 114:Declan, Cecilia, Mr Dennis & all the waitstaff were pleasant, interesting & so accommodating. The views were fantastic & the location close enough to Diolin but out of all the hustle & bustle. We loved the personalized castle tour! The meals in the restaurant were divine. The best salmon chowder in Ireland!!
Review 115:We have only stayed there for one night, but can only recommend this beautiful place. Food is excellent, the staff warm and welcoming - they just just read every wish from your eyes (a special thanks to Esther), the beds are absolutely fantastic...the entire place is magical. We have also enjoyed a short historical tour of the castle. We are really and satisfied with our stay there.
Review 116:Everything about Ballyseede Castle exudes old world charm & hospitality with first class comfort. The setting is sublime. I awoke to absolute peace and tranquillity, song birds singing and the sound of trees gently swaying in the Kerry breeze. I only stayed one night but was delighted by the genuine warmth and friendliness of everyone working here – it does my Irish roots proud to experience Ireland at its best. Can’t wait for another excuse to return.
Review 117:Nothing...we really enjoyed it all.
Review 118:Beautiful building inside, tea and coffee on arrival was welcomed. We stayed in the newer built lodge which was a massive well appointed room. Very nice indeed with a roll top bath in the room. Wifi worked well and breakfast was excellent. Great work all.
Review 119:the comments on my booking request had not been noted and my request for a bath ignored, so we wasted a lot time looking at rooms and then had to pay more for an upgrade as the only available one with a bathwas below ground level. Very disappointing for such a lovely hotel.
Review 120:Food was nice and our waitress was super friendly
Review 121:Bedroom was too warm with no control over one of the radiators. I Had to ring down to reception to turn it off ( which they did remotely ) & got the impression that it was all or nothing as the rad came on in the morning without me touching anything ( we do not like it too hot so this was annoying and cause of slight headache ). I did not question this on checkout but in hindsight I'm a little curious to see if I could have gained control somehow. This would have made the stay 10/10 instead of 9/10.
Review 122:Free coffee and tea available at all times in the room off bar where one could read in peace. Very reasonable price Very relaxing Great dinner menu & not too expensive Very friendly staff Nice pint of guinness Free newspaper in the morning Large bedroom Free wifi ( without any logons )
Review 123:We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the house. The building is gorgeous and the staff were excellent. I proposed to my girlfriend over dinner in the formal dining room, it was the perfect setting. Thank you for the hospitality.
Review 124:Fish and chips dinner disappointing - too much batter, fish soggy. However Steak and Guinness pie was delicious.
Review 125:Very comfortable room with good queen bed. Excellent breakfast and great staff, especially Joe
Review 126:The beds was rather small and creekie and the radiators would not turn on.
Review 127:The food in the restaurant was excellent as was the service, both for dinner and breakfast. The principle lounges were very nice and I felt as if I was staying in someone's home. The grounds were nice, but small.
Review 128:GPS has a hard time finding the location but all you have to do is enter the coordinace that are provided with the reservation.
Review 129:Everything! Our stay was perfect!
