Reviews for Europa Grand Hotel
Review 1:This is a very noisy hotel. You can hear the toilets and showers in other rooms. Also rubbish collection right next to the hotel is intrusive.
Review 2:Location was perfect, lovely views and an easy walk into Lerici.
Review 3:Exceptional - the setting is overwhelmingly beautiful; the facility is grand; the breakfast is high class & the attendants are gracious. Because our first stay was so remarkable, we brought two more couples with us to introduce them. They loved it as much as we did.
Review 4:We were welcomed by the manager at our arrival who gracefully upgraded us to their sister hotel down the road where we had a booking for our 2nd night in Lerici. We very much appreciated the gesture and flexibility.
Review 5:In the hot summer you need a swimmingpool. It's a long walk to a free beach. There are too little possibilaties to swim for free in the neighbourhood. The room was too hot or you had to put on the airco in the night. You can't drive with your car into Lerici.
Review 6:The beautiful view from the terrace and the room. Delicious breakfast until 12 o' clock. The nice trip with the boat to the Cinque Terre.
Review 7:We weren't able to stay longer!!! It would have been nice with a pool and a restaurant, but allegedly both are available at their sister hotel (but see above). The lack of restaurant is the hotel's loss as once you've taken the stroll you may as well keep going to the harbour front.
Review 8:The room was great, as was the view from the balcony. Breakfast on the terrace was also good "Free" shuttle down to the harbour with our bags in order to get the ferry to Cinque Terre
Review 9:Keep in mind the walk to the town centre is not suitable if you have a very young or old family.
Review 10:Very friendly and helpful staff. Very clean hotel, fantastic bedroom. Breakfast area offers a superb selection, and a fantastic view of Lerici. I would go again.
Review 11:Paying for wifi and the lack of hotel facilities !
Review 12:Unbeatable views a lovely big bed and fantastic breakfast in a comfortable and very clean hotel. Different reception staff every day was odd and the bar didn't serve coffee ! But overall would highly recommend this hotel. Be aware it's location requires a stiff uphill trek back from the harbour ! But worth it !!
Review 13:Access to town - stairs in need of repair and no lights No restaurant OK concierge You could tell that this was once a grand hotel... No longer the case
Review 14:Breakfast was great
Review 15:You had to go to their sister hotel for Wi-Fi, and there is no restaurant for lunch and dinner in the hotel.
Review 16:Breakfast! We even took photos of the layout - which is by far the best I've seen. And it was so beautiful to sit on the balcony overlooking the Mediterranean and sip cappuccino at our leisure.
Review 17:Sound proofing was poor between rooms. We were a party of 7 and had 4 rooms which were all affected.
Review 18:Happy and friendly staff Breakfast on the terrace Freshly squeezed OJ and a juicer to prepare your own healthy drinks Views from top of the hill (you need to be fit to climb the steps)
Review 19:The noise in the hotel, air condipning unit in room was so noisy we had to switch it off. Opened windows and street noise had us awake the 2 nights we stayed.we heard noise from next door shower and every toilet flush
Review 20:The views were spectacular, their sister hotel Doria staff were so helpful and arranged transport back to the Europa after dinner. The breakfast was very good and staff there very good. Thebes was very comfortable
Review 21:The hotel is very difficult to find. We took a local bus from La Spezia to Lerici and waited 2 hours before a local helped us find our way. There were no taxis available.
Review 22:Loved our balcony view. Breakfasts were phenomenal. The staff was extremely helpful especially Luigi.
Review 23:Soundproofing of the room. You can always hear the neighbours, especially when they use the bathroom.
Review 24:Great fresh breakfast with a great view covering the sea
Review 25:Despite all the disadvantages below our stay was very enjoyable. Room is older than in the photos. The no place to dry the swim wear (portable dry device was just what one needed). Air-conditioning was with the smell of humidity and oldness. Only one litter box in the room (in the bathroom) which is not enough Very noisy in the room (you hear everything your neighboors do) The nest two disadvantages apply not to the hotel but to Lerici. Lerici is very picturesque place but: Almost all hotels in this area including this one have a lot of stairs to the beach (for us it was ok but if you have any health problems it would be very difficult to deal with) The closest beach to the hotel is very expensive (38 or 36 euros per day).
Review 26:Very picturesque view from the balcony in the room. Big parking for the car of any size. The best breakfast that we have in Italy (I liked most the great variety of fruits).
Review 27:This hotel was one of the best place I have ever stayed at - much due to the hotel staff for being SO helpful, kind and service-minded. The rooms were spacious and clean, with a very comfortable huge bed and with a great sea view - we did not miss anything in the room. The cleaning staff did an amazing job every day. And then the breakfast - fantastic! I have never experienced a breakfast like that. It was more of a brunch :) I loved sitting at the terrace eating that amazing breakfast. The hotel is located on a hill with a 10-15 min steps to walk everyday but its really worth the view and everything else!
Review 28:Rooms could have been brighter but considering it is a three star hotel in italy it was over our expectations
Review 29:Free parking, nice staff, good breakfast and a really nice view over the bay. Worth every penny.
Review 30:The plumbing! So noisy
Review 31:The staff have been very well trained and were always charming and helpful. Breakfast was exceptionally good. The location was wonderful, and the public areas of the hotel, with comfortable sofas and chairs on the two terraces, helped to enhance the overall atmosphere. Dinner at the sister hotel, The Doria Park was a great experience - so good we went there twice.
Review 32:Long trek up the stairs from the downtown - but I did stay in shape and ate more gelato instead!
Review 33:The staff were all very helpful and friendly. They offered tips on how to access the surrounding town sites to see. Luigi is a wonderful ambassador for this hotel. The variety of choices and quality of the food for breakfast/ brunch was wonderful. I dined at the Doria Hotel (sister hotel) and this was very good as well.
Review 34:Could use new floors and some touching ups inside the hotel. Free wifi would be nice.
Review 35:Great location for trip to cinque terre. Hotel is a 5 minute walk to town where you can catch a ferry to the cinque terre and portovenere. Excellent breakfast, beautiful views. Comfortable beds.
Review 36:Friendly with houmor and English speaking staff Breakfast was outstanding of food choise compare to other hotels in Italy Perfect view from room window (even better from balcony) Free parking outside hotel
Review 37:A bit of a walk to the centre, uphill on the way back
Review 38:Beautiful view
Review 39:View, staff, service everything was wonderful. Will definitely recommend to friends. Many thanks to the best staff ever!
Review 40:Excellent find!! We will recommend this hotel to all.... Panoramic views with very comfortable accommodations!!
Review 41:A really nice hotel located on a beautiful spot with an awesome view over Lerici. Friendly management and staff.
Review 42:none.
Review 43:Loved the location, ideal for a rest and relaxation holiday.
Review 44:The staff was so accomodating! The view from our balcony was picture perfect, and the breakfast (included) was lovely.
Review 45:our room needed maintenance, furniture and walls need to be painted etc. Wifi not free of charge.
Review 46:great breakfast with a view, kind staff
Review 47:rooms need sound proofing
Review 48:Amazing view, breakfast on the terrace, very friendly and helpful staff - absolutely perfect
Review 49:Paying for Wifi ,attention to detail ,brewing up facilities in room but no milk .rooms need sound proofing .
Review 50:The view
Review 51:staff were very good helped with all our needs
Review 52:Breakfast is a five star breakfast
Review 53:Beautiful view from our room and the breakfast terrace is lovely with probably the best breakfast selection we have experienced!
Review 54:Amazing view, clean and nice hotel. Great breakfasts!
Review 55:The room was very tired, not super clean. The view from the balcony saved it! They only supply one bathrobe for two guests and when I asked for an extra we couldn't have one until the next day when we were leaving! Hotel very old fashioned looking apart from the front and where the breakfast is served
Review 56:The view is amazing. Great location. Breakfast was great and of a high standard
Review 57:The hotel wasn't cheap, but I think Lerici accommodation is quite expensive. We hadn't appreciated that it would be as difficult as it was to take our infant's pushchair down to the waterfront, but this is our fault and not the hotel's!
Review 58:The view is breathtaking. Breakfast was great - so much choice and I loved the DIY freshly-squeezed orange juice.
Review 59:No atmosphere in bar area, served stale nibbles with small measures of wine. No eat in offer, have to to walk to sister hotel down a not a safe with small children path/stairs!! The room was tiny, you would feel uncomfortable after two nights sharing a room.
Review 60:The view and position of the hotel. The breakfast was excellent along with staff.
Review 61:That we didn't stay longer!
Review 62:Our room was very nice and clean, view was magnificent, breakfast was very good and not rushed, the staff was so friendly and welcoming, just loved staying here!
Review 63:Best to stay here if you have a car. Taxi's are very expensive. Everywhere is either up or down hill, so only good for active travelers.
Review 64:Spacious, beautiful rooms, stunning views over the gulf. Food was excellent! Easy access to downtown Lerici. Staff very helpful.
Review 65:Most hotels in Italy offer complimentary WIFI now, so having to pay, although a reasonable amount, is annoying.
Review 66:Comfortable though small room with partial sea views. Breakfast was great - lots of variety to suit every taste. The hotel has had a bit of a makeover lately and it seems they are mid-way through a longer project, but the breakfast room and some of the facilities have been nicely renovated.
Review 67:Nothing like that
Review 68:Nothinig to complain about this hotel. The location is excellent, very nice view from the hotel. Breakfast is super - great choice and again amazing view from the terrace while eating. Stuff is really helpful - we have arrived early morning to catch the ship and we could park our car at the hotel with no problem. The hotel is just a "some" steps away from the coast and the city center.
Review 69:Our TV had limited access to international channels for the first two nights of our stay but technician fixed this for our last two nights. Restaurant is in a sister hotel halfway down the hill. So too is the computer for internet access if you don't have your own wifi device like us.
Review 70:Elevated location gave great views of Lerici and the bay. Room was spacious and comfortable with very large firm bed. Breakfast offered everything you could want; the breakfast room was bright, elegant and also had a beautiful view. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Down on the seafront there were a couple of good Italian restaurants for dinner and boats leave from there to Portovenere and the Cinque Terre.
Review 71:excellent position! wonderful view! rich, fresh, good breakfast served on the terrace with the spectacular view over the Golfo dei Poeti! fabulous Italian coffee! rooms not particulary large but 200x200 cm, new bed. Big bathroom (with bidet!). Very helpful personnel (special regards to Silvia from Romania!), free parking and easy access to city centre and the boat to Cinque Terre
Review 72:The steps down to the Square in Lerici (its an age thing!).
Review 73:We were attending a family wedding reception in this hotel and found the location, staff, food and facilities to be beyond our expectations.
Review 74:The hotel was overpriced. It was dirty and very dated. Grandmas' old furniture on every landing! Our room was miniscule; we could not pass each other, one of us had to sit on bed. Likewise the balcony was tiny. This hotel has benefitted from an outdoor facelit and some good photographs but the inside was dismal; faded carpets, MFI furniture which was shabby. The shower in our room did not work but our requests for attention went unheeded. I do not like to stand in my own waste water
Review 75:The view from the window The breakfast
Review 76:Nothing
Review 77:Everything - we had the best room in the hotel! Fantastic views. Breakfast choice was amazing - very helpful and friendly staff. It is a walk down to the waterfront but the views from balcony are worth it!
Review 78:Price is quite high (but it is difficult to find other hotels offering the same quality at a lower price)
Review 79:Breakfast is great. Location and view is amazing. Staff is professional and kind
Review 80:Town center is a 10 min walk but traitorous at some places, going down is ok, the walk back up is steep at some places. The beaches from town center are another 10 min walk.
Review 81:They are very accommodating, specially Luigi ! Our room a had beautiful view, rooms are clean and spacious. The breakfast restaurant was excellent and a breathtaking view ! The outdoor lounge was very comfortable.
Review 82:– Interior is a little tired & outdated
Review 83:– Friendly and helpful staff – Excellent breakfast – Central location if you are able to climb a few steps – Incredible views from the seaside rooms
Review 84:Very poor sound insulation, noisy air conditioners. Private beach - municipal beach! Pebbles the size of the asteroid))) shuttle to the beach on their own (good fitness for the buttocks)
Review 85:Excellent location of the hotel - lovely views from the terrace and balconies. Good staff. Great breakfasts. Convenient parking.
Review 86:The near 200 streps up from the town are a hard climb so take the free shuttle offered by the Hotel unless you are feeling energetic.
Review 87:The staff, especially Luigi on the desk, were very helpful. The breakfast was varied and very good and the views over the Bay of Poets from the breakfast terrace are superb.
Review 88:Nothing really - yes it's a bit of a trek to the town centre (and back to the hotel) but the Telarro bus runs every half hour and can collect/leave you within 100 mts of the Europa Grand. This excellent advice was offered by the very friendly reception staff.
Review 89:Our room was at the front of the hotel and we had a beautiful view of the Bay of Poets from our balcony. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and breakfast in this hotel is first class.
Review 90:Little space in the shower, doors didn't close very well. It'snot an ideal location for disabled people because of the walkingdistance to the car-free centre. Pictures on the website are a littlebit misleading from reality.
Review 91:Friendly staff, location (beautiful overview of the area/bay), Aircoin the room was very good. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice.
Review 92:absolutely nothing!
Review 93:Our room has a big balcony with an amazing bew of Lerici!!!!! Breakfast was excellent and we really had a woderful stay here... we would love to come back here again!
Review 94:Long uphill walk to get back from port to hotel, although bus available, but staff did not mention bus until I reported my husbands mobility problems. No undercover parking available, staff had to keep car key if double parking necessary.
Review 95:View grand, breakfast outstanding, good to have lift and parking. Lerici is a gem of a place. We adored it. Near to cinque Terre and the beautiful Porto Venere really makes Lerici worth a long term stay.
Review 96:There is little to criticize here, other than the room furnishings beingrather sterile and wishing there had been a bar of soap instead of onlyliquid. I won't criticize the walk to town, or rather the trudgeback up the hill to return to the Europa Grand, but anyone considering astay here should be aware of this. Not a problem for anyone of normalfitness, I would think, but after a lovely meal in Lerici, be preparedto walk back a little slower!!
Review 97:Our overall experience was just right. Clean room, very comfortable bed, good bathroom (by European standards per this American) with nicetowels, great views and helpful staff.
Review 98:The hotel uses it's sister hotel Doria's restaurant fordinner. We booked a table here full of enthusiasm for a great meal...themenu published on the internet looked fab.The location of the restaurantis stunning. We were given both food and wine menus to choose from withno mention of items being unavailable on what was already a limitedchoice. When asked for our order, two of the three main courses turned outto have "run out"(it was 8pm on a Friday evening) and then twoof the wines we chose had "run out." With only the option ofeating and drinking something we didn't actually want weleft..although no one came out to apologise for the situation. We had agreat meal at one of the restaurants on the sea front...with a hugechoice on the menu!! In comparison to the professional approach at TheEuropa we were shocked at the approach at The Doria and certainly wouldnot choose to eat here next time.
Review 99:We had a fabulous stay at The Europa Grand and plan to return soon.Thelocation is stunning..for us the walk direct down to the central squarewas no problem..passing pretty houses and scented Jasmine plants.Thehotel serves a fabulous breakfast until 12pm in a stylish breakfastroom. The welcome from the staff was extremely warm and professional..from the concierge to the breakfast staff. We cannot recommend thishotel highly enough.
Review 100:As in most mediterranean hotels, noises from inconsiderate roomneighbours can be heard.
Review 101:A tasteful designed hotel, a great breakfast till 12 o´clock, every day, with the possibility to eat outside and enjoy the magnificent view.
Review 102:The walk to town is close but the stairs and slope can be difficult. 300 meters doesn't sound like much until you have to do it twice a day:)
Review 103:Room with view!!! Beds were large and very comfortable. Lots of options and time for breakfast.
Review 104:We had a very nice stay in this hotel, the views were lovely, overlooking the bay. Although we didn't have a balcony of our own, there is a lovely terrace where we sat, chilled, and enjoyed the spectacular views. The breakfast was the best we had throughout the whole of our 19 day trip through Italy. Apart from the steep steps down to the port, it was a great location to visit the stunning Cinque Terre by boat.
Review 105:As we had arrived by bus to the centre of Lerici we did find the 180 steps with cases a little exhausting.
Review 106:This is a lovely hotel. The staff were very helpful and the room was very comfortable and we had a little terrace.I would definitely recommend this hotel and I will certainly stay here again. The views are amazing.
Review 107:no dinner in evening, 183 steps to get to restaurants in evening, free shuttle bus to restaurants would be advantage for less mobile people
Review 108:Comfortable bed, excellent views, staff
Review 109:nice hotel, great value.large king size bed and room.great location overlooking bay.word of warning the steps up from the town to the hotel are quite severe.
Review 110:Booked last minute for Friday night and had a fantastic time. They were booked solid for Saturday so they found us room to sister hotel down the hill (Doria Park Hotel) that was equally great. These are definitely our "must go to" hotels in Lerici!
Review 111:There are a lot of steps down to the town which are hard work coming back to the hotel especially at night. However, there is a bus from the town which drops you off close to the hotel. In summer this runs regularly and we used it most days so the steps were not a problem to us.
Review 112:The hotel was of a very good standard. We had a top floor room overlooking the gulf and the views were fantastic
Review 113:There are parking area, however it is difficult to park and you need to leave your car keys in the reception so they will move your car if necessary. It is not in a walking distance from the city
Review 114:Big rooms. The breakfast was amazing!!!
Review 115:Comfortable bed, beautiful view, quiet room, lovely staff, phenomenal breakfast included. Nothing was lacking. 15 minute brisk walk downhill to the ocean and shops. (If you want to be right on the beach, this isn't it). Air conditioning in room, if you want it.
Review 116:It can be difficult to go up to the hotel from the center/beach, around 7-10 minutes of climbing. Another issue: the mosquitos from the room. You can have bad nights so come prepared.
Review 117:The view from the restaurant, the breakfast, very kind staff, well designed hotel.
Review 118:Not brand new, may need some refurbishment but still very clean and in good conditions.
Review 119:Excellent location not too far from the beach. Wondefull sea view on the terrasse at breakfast. Excellent breakfast and very kind and helpful personnel. Large beds of good quality. Very easy to park the car in front of the hotel.
Review 120:Only one problem - mosquitos in the night.
Review 121:Great Hotel with wonderfull freindly staff. It should have at least 4 stars. Best breakfast on the wonderfull sunny terrase with seeview - one of the best in the Italy. Also the walk down/up to/from the main city-square (app 8-10 min.) was pleasant adventure (could only be the problem for disabled people). We stayed at the hotel for the second time and we will come again.
Review 122:Fantastic location above Lerici. Choose a sea view room for a fabulousview. Staff at this hotel are incredibly helpful and we loved stayinghere. The breakfasts are exceptional for Italy and the views from thebreakfast balcony over the Bay of Poets are to die for.Extremely comfortable bed in the room too. Bathrooms are old fashioned and a bit basic but this really didn't matter. Water pressure was good and that's the main thing. Lerici is an excellent position for exploring the Ligurian coast. Easy access to there by boat or if you are stuck for time, park at the railway station multi storey car park in La Spezia (8 euros for all day parking) and get the train to the Cinque Terre - takes 10 mins and you get unlimited train access between the villages and access to all the footpaths for 10 euros inclusive. Great value! Much better to stay in Lerici just outside the Cinque Terre rather than inside. I will recommend this hotel to all our friends - it's one of the best we have ever stayed in. And Lerici is a really charming little place with lots of lovely places to eat !
Review 123:Good location. very nice staff, comfortable room with efficient air conditioning and excellent bed. Superb breakfast taken on terrace with panoramic view of Lerici seascape.
Review 124:Nearest restaurant was down a very steep hill only accessible by walking. And with a very steep hill to climb back to the hotel. Once in Lerici, there were many restaurants to chose from but, again, only accessible by foot (access by car involved major parking issues). Booking.com directions were poor. Without specific directions from the hotel staff we would still be looking for the hotel.
Review 125:comfortable room. Very good breakfast with wonderful views from breakfast room balcony overlooking Lerici.
Review 126:Initially difficult to locate.
Review 127:We chose it because of the price and free parking. Apart from this, onarrival, we found that the staff were particularly helpful and pleasant. The room had beautiful views and the most comfortable king sized bedduring our whole stay in Italy! The breakfast, which was included, wasof a high standard. We have no hesitation in highly recommending it.
Review 128:The view from the hotel was incredibly beautiful. All the staff were nice and friendly. Especially Armando at the front desk was such a nice man with a warm hospitality. He helped us a lot when we had a GPS problem of our rent-a-car. He also gave us a right suggestion about good restaurants in Lerici. He made our stay very pleasant. Thank you, Armando! Breakfast was great with a wide selection of good quality. Tamara, a wait staff at the breakfast was a very nice lady and we enjoyed talking with her. She speaks perfect English, and answered all our questions and gave us lots of information about the area. We hope to come back to this hotel in near future.
Review 129:Decor, room facilities, bathroom
Review 130:Breakfast
