Reviews for Alila Ubud

Review 1:The stairs were a killer for me - SO MANY STAIRS and no elevator or lift!! Would have stayed longer - but impossible to move around there

Review 2:enjoyed everything, but those stairs spoiled my vacation!!

Review 3:Excellent staff!! Our initial room was a bit noisy and once we talked to the manager Janine Keuls she arranged to get us upgrade to another room and a complimentary spa treatment. Amazing hotel that's all

Review 4:Rooms need an upgrade.

Review 5:Staff are excellent and very obliging. It was my mum's birthday and they went out of their way to fulfil my every request and even more. My mum was thrilled!!

Review 6:Shuttle service to/from Ubud ends at 6pm. Ubud is approx. 20/30 minutes drive.

Review 7:Amazing location with infinity swimming pool facing the jungle. Nice and comfortable chalets, though some are a bit far from reception and restaurants. Gentle staff and good quality of food.

Review 8:One single thing i dislike was my room 229 was at the far end from the lobby, near the entrance gate. Dislike but forgettable.

Review 9:Excellent breakfast, pillows, location, infinity pool, weather, staff especially the the receptionist-Made, plantation restaurant crew-suri and others as well as all the staffs of alila ubud who smiles and greet you all the time. Feeling absolutely welcome here. Surely will be back in near future.

Review 10:there were some loud frogs in the pond. But the reception send over three guys to catch the frogs and toke care of the problem.

Review 11:booked the deluxe room to surprise my girlfriend who was on a two month trip. The room was upgraded to the pool villa! she really liked the surprise and was treated nice. the service even included preparing the kingsize bed for the night and filling up the outdoor-tub.

Review 12:It's in the middle of the rain forest and hence a bit far away from Ubud. However, this makes this place a perfect haven for relaxation!

Review 13:Staff is very friendly and attentive! Excellent service, remembering details of guest preferences, amazing pool, breathtaking nature and surroundings, great view! Food was great

Review 14:Lots of noise from across the valley really disturbed our sleep on the first night. Room was ok but was really dated - not what you'd expect from this kind of hotel.

Review 15:Restaurant was amazing - lovely staff and great food

Review 16:Relatively far away from ubud (20 min. drive), food is over priced compared to the quality.

Review 17:amazing infinity pool and by far the best breakfast of the trip.

Review 18:The loo in our room had an issue - it kept flushing uncontrollably. The management moved us into a new room (we were upgraded to a villa) as compensation.

Review 19:The staff are amazing. The feeling of total escape from the hectic world we live in.

Review 20:Rooms were nice but it's expensive for the quality and size of room compared to other Balinese properties. The breakfast service was awfully slow and the portions very small. This is a lovely venue for couples, just not so nice as a solo traveller as you stand out.

Review 21:Loved the pool - the reason I went there. Stunning views of the valley/jungle. Lots of options of things to do from the property too.

Review 22:Price on the expensive side, especially taxi services which is double what you find on the street. Away from Ubud so reliant on taxi or hotel shuttle to get into town, 20 minute drive.

Review 23:Room with an amazing view and sounds of ghekos and water from the river below. Delicious food - breakfast / dinner. Staff were friendly and always willing to assist; especially our driver.

Review 24:Nothing but nothing was too much for any of the impeccably trained staff. An outstanding hotel in a stunning setting. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Review 25:The food was exceptional from the 7 course breakfast, which changed daily, to dinner it really was a gourmet delight! The staff and management were superb and the spa and spa products were of a very high standard.

Review 26:We stayed in villa 302. The thatch roof leaked in four places, in the bedroom and wardrobe area. The shower had no hot water two nights out of three, the air conditioner did not work in the wardrobe area. There was a damp smell in the reception area which puzzled us until we realize it came from the reception counter, which must have been wiped with a dirty cloth.

Review 27:The pool was good, and the views were fantastic.

Review 28:sometimes grasshopper can visit your room but it's acceptable because of the nature around the resort, but for prevention hotel should put an insect spray in each room.

Review 29:great nature, in the afternoon the monkeys will visit the pool area, serene and peacefull resort, you can see rice fields, and amazing pool! the food is delicious and they serve fresh and yummy breakfast everyday! The staff also helpful and nice!

Review 30:Moved to another hotel with less than a day's notice (they went to great lengths to make it up to us). Perhaps over-staffed (always asked how e.g. our massage was!). It's expensive in Bali terms.

Review 31:Amazing infinity pool Spa (some treatments may not appeal to everyone). Fantastic options - cooking course awesome Villa was really nice (bath in a coi pond!).

Review 32:Taxi ride from the airport, seemed to take a lot longer than it should have done!

Review 33:Everything about this resort was superb, it was like living with nature but with all the luxury. Staff couldn't be more helpful and the food was extremely good too. A short trip into the local village also worthwhile.

Review 34:Having a Scorpio on the inside of your mosquito net in the morning was a shock... But you are in the jungle there and that's part of it. The staff made up for it.

Review 35:The villa, with it's proper coffee machine, illy coffe, excellent service, gorgeous bath room, bath tub in between the two parts of the villa. Serenity pure. Excellent massage & food for all meals. The drinks by the pool were just as nice as the complimentary afternoon tea. I loved the free yoga class in the morning as well.

Review 36:There was a big gecko in my room.

Review 37:I like the pool, bale bengong and the artisan breakfast.

Review 38:Just great

Review 39:Location service food

Review 40:As a gay couple we had to ask to get a double bed and not a twin beds!

Review 41:Infinity pool, outstanding customer service, amazing view!

Review 42:The location, staff and pool were fantastic. The breakfast the best in the world

Review 43:Fantastic service and extremely helpful staff Excellent quality of rooms Up market SPA

Review 44:Watch out for the naughty monkeys!

Review 45:Culture, comfort, quiet, beautiful pool, good food, superb spa, great leisure concierges and staff.

Review 46:Pool Surrounding Super friendly staff Free bicycles

Review 47:restaurant swimming pool

Review 48:Not enough sunbeds

Review 49:Amazing pool Yummy breakfast Best cocktails Complimentary bicycles

Review 50:Starting to show its age.

Review 51:Great quiet location with great staff

Review 52:It is far away from Ubud. The enclosed room we had: the A/C was noisy, the lock of the door was defect, the water tap was leaking - noise by nighttime, the shower mounting frame was almost broken and disconnected from the wall. Not enough employee to take care of all the guests - breakfast or diner times. Long waiting time to get one. Breakfast "a la carte" is really annoying due to long waiting time.

Review 53:The place is surrounded by rice field and vegetation. The employee were very friendly

Review 54:We were in a villa which was fantastic apart from the regular visits of a family of very friendly/ over friendly kleptomaniac monkies.

Review 55:All in all a very good hotel, great service, spacious rooms and delicious food.

Review 56:The location related to other restaurants makes it a bit of a pain eating out in Ubud during the evenings as the last shuttle leaves at 18:00. the restaurants at Alila are excellent but expensive and you should definitely experience some of the restaurants in Ubud or surrounding areas.

Review 57:The food was excellent, specifically the breakfasts. The view was stunning, lovely and tranquil up in the mountains. We stayed in the superior double rooms and they where awesome! the lounger out side is a bit small but a welcome addition.

Review 58:Rooms are either unclean or with broken facility. You can see this low maintenance level resulting in tired amenity around. Inconsistent service and lack of standard.

Review 59:Nice property and good breakfast.

Review 60:Insects in our room. The shower tiles have moss. Need to improve cleanliness specially in the shower room. 30 minutes after we checked out and while waiting for the shuttle, I realized that I left my samsung note 3 in the room. When I went back to get it, there were 3 male housekeepers already fixing my room. Asked them where my phone was and one of them pulled it out of this pocket and handed it over to me. They should have informed the front desk right away when they found the phone as it was pretty obvious that they were already half way done fixing my room (the bed sheets were changed, old sheets, linens and garbage already outside the room). When I realized that I didn't have my phone with me, it was 15 minutes before the shuttle that would take us to city was scheduled to leave. And it has been 45 minutes since I left my room....very disappointing.

Review 61:The rustic comfort in a tropical environment. The service and food are personalized.

Review 62:Our room (107) was spotlessly clean but a little dated. A leak in the toilet was not fully fixed despite a couple of maintenance visits.

Review 63:We stayed at this resort for two nights whilst touring around Bali.Upon arrival we were greeted by reception staff who dealt with our bags and provided a cooling towel and welcome drink. The hotel General Manager then came over and gave us a very helpful and informative welcome to the hotel, which he is clearly passionate about. This gave us ideas on what we could do whilst there but certainly did not come across as a hard 'sales pitch'. Whilst going through the check-in formalities he noticed from my date of birth, that it was my birthday. About half hour after concluding check-in two drinks and a small cake was delivered to the room with a hand written card from the manager welcoming us and also sending birthday greetings. This was a very nice touch indeed.Throughout our stay, the staff were all very friendly and helpful. We felt that they all genuinely were interested in the guests well-being and wanted us to enjoy our time there. The location of the resort is very quiet and peaceful and the area around the pool is relaxing with plenty of shaded areas to escape the sun, should you wish. Plenty of staff around to assist with refreshments, when required. We used the hotel taxi service for three return trips for the 15 minute journey into Ubud centre. (IDR70k each way). Each of these journeys resulted in the driver, which was different each time, asking us if we wanted to make private transport arrangements with him, instead of using the more expensive hotel taxi service. Whilst this was a little annoying, we made a joke of it and started to guess how many seconds it would be before they asked us on some of the journeys (normally the question came within a minute of us getting in the car). We declined the 'additional service' each time and made our own arrangements upon departure with one of the many drivers in Ubud town centre, which was more competitively priced.

Review 64:No dislikes at all. But areas for improvement: - shrubs/flower beds/grass nit as well kept as per our previous visits - would be nice to have bicycle for young kids - good to be able to adjust lighting to be brighter - perfect for us if there are some halal meat dishes - a small gymn maybe :)

Review 65:The staffs were extremely courteous, friendly and helpful. The resort is peaceful, although it accomodates many guests, we always felt the privacy in the room and around the area.

Review 66:The place is slightly far away from Ubud centre.

Review 67:Beautiful location, a good restaurant with a good selection for breakfast and the staff were extremely nice.

Review 68:The distance of the hotel from central Ubud, difficulty of access into central Ubud, infrequency of the hotel shuttle service to Ubud. Very limited and poorly cooked food for vegetarians at dinner in restaurant.

Review 69:The pool, the view from the room, the free afternoon tea and snacks, the large and daily changing choice of food for breakfast.

Review 70:I'm struggling to find something i didnt like! Maybe the towel hooks - not really adequate to dry your towel off in between showers, really need to install some proper towel rails.

Review 71:Exceptional staff and a great range of extra activities available - we booked a couples session with the Reiki master, it was wonderful.

Review 72:Room was on the small side. Make sure you're covered in mosquito repellant.

Review 73:Staff, location & views were great! The breakfast selection was also very good. I particularly liked that the monkeys would sometimes visit us at the amazing infinity pool.

Review 74:Interior and fittings are old, need to refurbish. We stayed 2 nites at the pool villa, there isn't any lighting at the pool area hence we can't swim at nite. Is too dark n scary to swim. 3rd night we stayed at the valley villa to experience the diff feel of the villa. Nice villa but the fittings are really worn out. Room n bathroom is separated by a opened bath tub area, the area got ZERO lighting n it makes it scary to go toilet / bathroom.

Review 75:Staff are friendly n helpful.

Review 76:Only 1 restaurant, fairly dull bedroom, considerably inconvient layout of balcony and in-room furnishings. They really should change the art showroom to gym instead

Review 77:4-5 staff trying to find transportation solution for our gigantic art buys from Ubud, their sincerity is heart warming! Free cute alila bicycles we can borrow for exploration around the area, exceptionally good alfresco bathroom. Fairly well done breakfast, semi relaxing restaurant area

Review 78:- Quality of F&B could have been better - Staff forgot to bring luggage to the room upon check in - A beer ordered with room service was delivered warm

Review 79:- Ambiance at the resort - Willingness of staff to assist - Spa

Review 80:There is no reason i didnt like about this resort but the price is quite expensive

Review 81:I like the Alila Spa. The forest around it and the hospitality of people very good. And the food is also delicious. The last but not least is the pool, they have the best pool in the world.

Review 82:There should be a separate childrens area if children are allowed. The venue and the total set up at the hotel is NOT geared up for children. There are only 25 or so loungers around a peaceful pool. There were only 2 couples who appeared with children for our entire stay (ie its mostly adults) Therefore the entire pool area, and total peace and quiet was disturbed by the presence of these small children. Parents, please leave this venue for those it was intended for ie adults!!!

Review 83:The venue is beautiful, great setting and wonderfully peaceful. Its and ideal rest and relaxation get away suitable for adults and small groups.

Review 84:Not enough activities offered - more region exploration oriented offers would be highly valuable and client retentive

Review 85:Excellent food; extremely attentive staff;

Review 86:Restaurant pricey and rather uncomforatble, and the bale as no fans - surely they would be easy to install? Hotel is somewhat isolated, so buy your drinks to avoid paying hotel minibar prices when in Ubud.

Review 87:Lovely hotel in superb location, plus visiting monkeys! Excellent pool

Review 88:hmm. nothing.

Review 89:1) attentive friendly and warm staff. feels like home. 2) interesting and well-decided breakfast menu with a good sampling of both western and Indonesian food. 3) beautiful quiet swimming pool.

Review 90:A lot of steep stairs, not very suitable for disable people.

Review 91:Very nice tropical location by the Ayung river. Lovely swimmingpool. Nice to se the wild monkeys in the garden.

Review 92:if you are not a bug friendly person you should probably think twice before choosing upper superior room with traditional roof.

Review 93:location service staff pool meals quality

Review 94:Standard rooms are... Standard hotel rooms. A bit like a resort in Greece or Croatia, not what we had pictured if you say 'Bali'. But again, in terms of value for money they're great and if you come outside the rain season they're sufficient. Oh... And we had to move our breakfast from the terrace to our room because the monkeys had taken over the terrace, but that's actually a good thing.

Review 95:We were in Ubud to relax, hotel is in a very quiet area with great valley view. Rooms were nice, but a bit to hotel-ish and as it was the rain season we wanted more space and privacy so we could stay in our room. So we paid a bit extra to upgrade to a villa, excellent! Great staff, very reasonably priced extras (so no need to go somewhere else), excellent bed with variety of pillows. Pool is stunning as well.

Review 96:the service was amazing, i went there for my honeymoon and it was my first visit in Bali, I must say it was a memorable trip. The hotel and the view, it was spectacular. We spent 2 days in a hotel only due to the excellent service and facilities. it was exactly what we wanted for a honeymoon(e.g: spa, good food, breathtaking view, quiet and serene). Every penny was worth the spent.

Review 97:We just wished there are more facilities like libraries & game rooms. Also we were a little bothered by the monkeys who visitted at the front of our room once. But the hotel staff quickly put a stick with a turtle statue on it to ensure they stay away.

Review 98:We love the secluded locatiin, very tranquil. Very nice modern designed hotel with great view of the valley. The breakfast was served individually & with great presentation! But the best part of the hotel was the friendly and well mannered staff, who make the guests feel so welcomed and pampered. They made us feel like royalties & friends at the same time!

Review 99:hotel cleaning service is definitely great, but as this is monsoon season unavoidable there're more insects within and outside the room, anyway during dry season this shouldnt be a problem

Review 100:Everything superb

Review 101:Staying at valley villa one has to be prepared to confront with frogs, lizards and insects inside bedroom and bathroom. We couldn't use open air bath for the same reason. It didn't change our impression of the overall great hotel however, next time will have to look for the room types separated from the jungle in a more effective way.

Review 102:Picturesque hotel area with marvellous views at the valley. Well appointed villas. Great infinity pool. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. We liked monkeys regularly visiting our veranda. Ubud centre with all cultural sights, restaurants and spas is 15 minutes by car.

Review 103:Everything is wonderful . Location, views , proximity to the wild. Wonderful breakfasts and dinners. High-level spa. Organization of watching movies outdoors. Even when nature shows its wild character in the form of unexpected visits of monkeys, geckos or insects, staff very quickly coped with the situation: changed bed linens and helped defend territory habitat. In addition , on the day before departure, already in after hours at our request for us set up shop in the hotel and we were able to make the planned purchase. We are especially very grateful for the care and attention of the staff .

Review 104:I would prefer to have buffet breakfast.

Review 105:This beautiful hotel is located between rice fields with a beautiful view over the river. It is very peaciful and relaxing. Rooms are very elegant in the "zen" style. There is provided the shuttle bus to the center of Ubud.

Review 106:The view from the Deluxe room is not that opened due to the side walls. The size of the room is smaller than I expected.Food would be perfect if they use less salt. But I am not that disappointed actually.

Review 107:Gorgeous view of the pair of valley and swimming pool from the restaurant. The beautiful energy around from the nature and atmosphere are just wonderful. Staffs are well-trained with professional manner (but a little missing of Balinese hospitality). I would love to stay at the villa next time.

Review 108:Service can be improved, we were allocated wrong room to start with & then had to wait several hours for the room to be ready (after check in time), & housekeeping staff need to make sure tea/coffee/shampoo etc refilled daily. Really disappointed that the pool wasn't very clean - water pretty cloudy & it put me off using it

Review 109:Location was very nice and quiet, spa products nice and room was comfortable & clean

Review 110:Nothing.

Review 111:We (couple with 7 year old child) stayed in a magnificent tree-house villa with great view. It is a peaceful, relaxing and quite hotel, which is especially perfect after a day (or evening) in busy Ubud (10 min drive).

Review 112:The twin beds moved together to become one bed for us. The big bump in the bed did not lend itself to full comfort.

Review 113:The stillness of the location / surroundings. The food was magical.

Review 114:- The number of bicycles for renting is very few (5 bikes) - To celebrate our anniversary they brought us a complimentary box of drinks and even though with reassuring with them that we are Muslims and do not drink alcohol, they brought one bottle of alcohol!

Review 115:The design of the villa and the beautiful views of the valley next to it. The staff was very good and friendly. The infinite pool was great.

Review 116:The rooms are a bit small (but come with a great balcony!), and, while it was easy to get to Ubud via the hotel shuttle or taxi, it is a 15-20 minute car ride.

Review 117:The secluded location was quiet, had spectacular mountain views (especially from the fantastic infinity pool!), and was easy to get into Ubud.

Review 118:The room wasn't great. Very small for price and quite musty smelling. The staff in the restaurant weren't the best either - e.g. had to wait 30 mins when ordered a drink / ask multiple times for a coffee in the morning etc, they could work on the service aspect a bit.

Review 119:Beautiful pool and view by the pool. Lovely setting.

Review 120:Humidity in the room

Review 121:The Staff, the View, the Pool, the Breakfast, the outdoor bathtube in the room, the location in the middle of the rice fields and the jungle. Really amazingly relaxing and peacefull.

Review 122:Rooms are comfortable but quite basic. The outdoor bathroom is nice but not for eveybody's taste (mosquitos & insects)

Review 123:Remote location in the middle of the forest, fantastic pool, great service, lovely staff and very good food (breakfast is delicious)

Review 124:Prices( food and spa) : outrageously expensive (10 times the price vs Ubud "downtown" => no way we stay for dinner for dinner with a 5-person family). Shuttles : made not to be useful for guests (nothing at 12am, end of shuttles at 4pm), making the logistics to Ubud not simple. Hand spa : very poor, not worth the price.

Review 125:Staff : very professional, consumer-oriented, easy to contact and always of good avice. Hotel : very clean, outstanding level of service. Location : right in the jungle, incredible atmosphere.

Review 126:Our room was a little tired and would benefit from a refurbishment. Wewere also placed in a room directly above a young family (who, infairness, were no trouble other than being quite noisy first thing inthe morning) - that wasn't ideal as we were on a romantic break butI would recommend that you check or ask for a quiet room when arrivingat the hotel to ensure that this isn't the case if that's whatyou're looking for.

Review 127:The tranquility of the hotel and the amenities available were excellent. We were also really impressed with the approachability and personalservice offered by the staff.

Review 128:There was nothing I did not like!

Review 129:It was very peaceful with very few famlies staying. Stay attentive yet unobtrusive. Spa Treatments wonderful. Food excellent. Quite alot of things complimentary.

Review 130:We were two senior ladies and the position of our villa meant that wehad a lot of step to walk up and down. Not your problem really it saidso on the web site.

Review 131:Peaceful, helpful staff, food was excellent. Pool area, views from themain area.

Review 132:The sunken bath in the villas is unwelcoming as it is surrounded by stagnant ponds that aren't cleaned.

Review 133:The jungle location over the Ayung was excellent as was the menu in the restaurant, pool and spa.

Review 134:Very little to complain about. Perhaps the wifi could be more consistent...but you are in holiday.

Review 135:The property has aged very well. Excellent design followed up with excellent service.

Review 136:The hotel is about 15 minutes from town. It didn't bother us becauseit was nice to be away from the hussle and bussle in our sanctuary butif you want to be closer to the action and not have to pay the $7 for acab then this may not be the place for you.

Review 137:Everyone at Alila was extremely friendly and attentive and all spokeEnglish welll. We were lucky enough to get a free upgrade to a new villaand it was absolutely amazing! Friends of ours were in a basic room andthat looked pretty nice as well with great views over the valley.I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Review 138:I liked the warm service and the wonderful restaurant in the hotel. That region of Bali is also more laid back and less touristy but there is still quite a lot of interesting things to do.
