Reviews for Residence Cielo e Mare
Review 1:Even though many of the reviews mentioned that the accommodation was up a hill I didn't realized just how far up it really was. In good weather it would certainly be easy to walk down but the walk back would not have been easy for me due to some health issues. Rita volunteered to be my taxi so I was able to get to town when I wanted to. I booked there wanting a break from museums for a day or so and this was a perfect place for that. Normally, I book in locations closer to the attractions. If you have a car I highly recommend this accommodation, without a car it presents some challenges.
Review 2:Rita was so welcoming and helpful. She is a lovely, gracious person and I appreciated her assistance so much. Since my Italian is pathetic and she spook very little English communicating was a bit of a challenge, but fun too. She managed to fill me in on all the details I needed to know, and I also used the translator app on my phone. The balcony and views from the rooms are incredibly beautiful!! The sound of the sea wonderful! Loved this opportunity to see this area of Italy. The Cafe Hemingway in town was open and I had a lovely espresso and some food, passing the time and doing a little people watching. The proprietor there assured me that I was welcome to stay as long as I wanted. Here again the lack of language skills was there, but isn't is wonderful how much can be understood between people with a few phrases and gestures and smiles. Loved walking around the town and taking pictures of the street scenes
Review 3:We three adults stayed in a very large three-bedroom, two bath apartment that could have accommodated several more people. There were several private outdoor areas included and the views over the ocean and town were outstanding, plus it is a quiet location. It is high up on a hill, but doesn't take long to drive down into town.
Review 4:Restricted on Car Parking. Owner did her best. Comes as part of the adventure
Review 5:Superb location assuming you don't mind driving up the side of a mountain and have heads for heights. Ample room - great price for 3 or more sharing.
Review 6:The location was very difficult to find even with the navigation. The hosting lady did not speak English. As there is no breakfast, the guests should be aware of having to shop food beforehand.
Review 7:View, cleanliness, comfort.
Review 8:Great views, lovely terrace but as you'd expect because it's up the hill this becomes a 20 minute hike up or a 10 minute stroll down so own transport is preferable. There is a shuttle but this runs 2 hourly or Rita often insists on dropping off or picking up. A good choice to stay.
Review 9:The apartment was hard to find and confusing to locate. Rita could speak very little English which didn't help much. We were finally able to communicate slightly.
Review 10:The view was amazing and the apartment was spacious. We arrived at dusk and were amazed at the sunset. Rita was fabulous!! She helped us with food and comfort in our late arrival. We will be back for several more days.
Review 11:The apartment is nice enough but basic. The main bed mattress was terrible (apparently being replaced in Nov) and the other beds are sofa beds. It is in a nice spot but at the top of a steep hill 2km from town. the bus service is very irregular and stops soon after five pm so not much use .. Thank god for Rita!!
Review 12:Rita is lovely and really helpful .. Especially with free taxi services! nice sea view from terrace. Magnelia is really nice with proper shops, few tourists and some decent restaurants. The coastal train service is excellent to the Cinque Terre
Review 13:The access road was a nightmare and the beds were terrible and made for very poor sleep and sore backs. Using table clothes as towels was also a bit weird. Disorganised check-in and out with half hour delay on leaving.
Review 14:The view from the patio was awesome. Rita tried hard to help us and drove us down to the town twice. The apartment was very clean and well fitted out.
Review 15:Fantastic views, the apartment was nice and roomy with a lovely terrace outlook over the sea. It is located some 20 minutes walk uphill from the town so own transport is preferable or you could use the local bus service which runs approx. 2 hourly. Or Rita may insist that she drives or picks you up. Would certainly consider staying here again
Review 16:Internet connection (wifi) is nonexistent, although they give you password and it should work but .... It means you are unable to count on it.
Review 17:Nice view to the mountain,sea and beach,big balcony,quiet.
Review 18:We were charged an extra €6 per person for the use of the sheets and towels. I don't agree with these sort of separate charges - obviously we need sheets so they should be included in the price.
Review 19:The location high above the town offers fantastic views. It is a 15 minute steep walk down into the town centre. Moneglia has some pleasant unassuming bars and restaurants. There is a very handy minibus to take you back up the hill at midnight.
Review 20:The bathrooms are a little run down and could use a facelift. The mattresses were not very comfortable but we managed to double some up for more comfort!
Review 21:The host Rita is very nice, even though her English was poor she managed very well to explain things. The location is beautiful set on top of the hill from the village with fabulous views, although it's a good 30 min hike to get there by foot but the views are great and worth the workout. The apartments are vary spacious and there are parking spots designated for guests.
Review 22:It is a bit difficult to find the hotel and the parking is not so convenient.
Review 23:The owner of the house is very friendly. The apartment offered to us is very spacious with a nice sea view on the big balcony.
Review 24:Not that it is negative, but there is a slight language barrier as the hostess speaks very little English (although we managed fine)
Review 25:Excellent location with awesome view of the sea, very friendly hostess, clean, parking, good wifi, not far from beach
Review 26:a bit of a walk down the hill to a store, if you happen to forget anything.
Review 27:We loved the beautiful views. We also were very impressed with how kind and helpful Rita was. She went out of her way to make sure we had a nice stay.
Review 28:The hot water store in a tank so we have to wait at least 20 minutes to take shower once previous one finished
Review 29:The location - the terrace worth all the money and the view is marvelous. Our room have private balcony and stunning sea view from the balcony. The apartment has all the facilities to accommodate us.
Review 30:We were led to believe that the unit was closer to beach than it was. Motel was about a mile and a half on the mountains.
Review 31:The lady who took care if the apt was awesome. The views were stunning.
Review 32:The place does not have air conditioners. They have 2 little desk fans but one does not work. So it gets hot at night during the summer. You can leave the windows open but then mosquitoes get in... that would be my only complaint
Review 33:The house is beautiful and the grounds are amazing. It is extremely spacious. It is so relaxing to just be there. Beautiful view of the ocean from the top of the mountain . The place is up the hill so you would have to drive to go down to the town or beach, but that was OK with us. You could walk but it is a steep 30 min. walk uphill. Amazing place!
Review 34:Little bit away from center, BUT, if you enjoy walk with sunshine and enjoy a good view in the hotel, you can ignore the distance.
Review 35:Stuff Rita is very nice and care about her hotel. The view on the roof top is wonderful!
Review 36:A group of me and 7 others stayed in an apartment that slept 8, and hadits own private balcony with an amazing view. Rita, the owner, wasabsolutely by far the sweetest human being I have ever met!! Despite thelanguage barrier between us and her, she always tried to be more thanhelpful and was more than happy to be so sweet. She went out of her wayevery day to pick us up from the town and give us rides back to theapartment. We had even missed our stop in Moneglia from Levanto, andRita once again came to our rescue, without even us asking her to! Theapartment was very clean and perfect size, and the price was more thanreasonable. Words can't even describe our love for Rita
Review 37:The drive up the mountain is not for the faint of heart! Single lane - shared by both directions/ locals drive VERY fast - few stressful moments driving up and down . We had a large van which made the drive even worse!
Review 38:Roomy , bright , comfortable . Amazing view from the rooftop patio. Clean , good amenities , wAshing machine , dishes, dishwasher .
Review 39:Lovely sea view from spacious balcony. We had everything we needed and enjoyed our stay. Pleasant 30 minute walk downhill to the waterfront. (It takes a bit longer walking back up again!)
Review 40:We didn't mind but it was a long walk up and down the hill to get to the town and back up.
Review 41:It was a very nice location with beautiful panoramic views.
Review 42:The fact we had to rent our bedding, was unusual and the only example we experienced for our whole trip.Maybe a little expensive for the one night.
Review 43:Location, location location. Friendly staff, and beautiful facilities, and fantastic views from the balcony. Great value for money.
Review 44:Very odd beds with high boards on the Sid, made it hard to get in and out of the bed, not near cinque there as advertise, no number or name on the building, so hard to locate.
Review 45:The WiFi wasn't great (it would shut off for hours) and the towels weren't free.
Review 46:I loved the feel of the town we stayed in--there were lots of sweet elderly Italians. It felt authentic rather than the touristy Cinque Terre. The view from the deck was gorgeous!
Review 47:The towels (like bed sheets, given for a supplementary amount of money - 24 euro). The floors not to clean. The acces to the location is rather diffcult for a medium size car (its on top of the hill), but the view is marvelous. We had private parking, without any extra payment, wich is a rare thing in the area.
Review 48:The location - the terrace worths all the money. The appartment has all the facilities to accomodate between 4 and 8 persons (I reccomend 4 persons, in order to leave the kitchen only for dining).
Review 49:Although not critiscm or negative:the location is difficult to find and only accesible by smaller cars. The rest however make up for that.
Review 50:The view, location, beautiful surroundings and town. Rita was a star, she assisted and helped in any way she could. She even offered to drive us to supermarket when we arrived late and hungry. We fell in love with Moneglia and its people. We will visit again and use same accomodation.
Review 51:It was a bit tricky to find as we were coming in at night. Thankfully Rita was waiting to direct us in which was fabulous.
Review 52:Our favourite thing about staying here was meeting Rita. She was so welcoming and really fantastic. It was my birthday and Rita made it extra special for me! Views from the rooms and terraces were splendid Had all the things you need
Review 53:Everything was perfect. Great conditions, beautiful views, large tarace... Apartamentes were located on the hill so it is difficult to go there by foot from City Center but the views from the windows are worth of it.
Review 54:The room smelled musky, even after we aired it out. There was a largepatch of mold on the wall in the living room. They charged us 12 euros for towel service. I'm not a very big fan of the hidden costs.
Review 55:The apartment was very spacious. There was plenty of room for us to cookand prepare for our daily excursions. The owners were very helpful andthey even seemed excited to have us stay. There is a wash machine toclean all of your clothes and a full kitchen to cook great meals!
Review 56:Excellent place with a very spectacular view. The hotel is situated at the very top, so you should use the car or bus to get there, but the view to the sea, the valley and to the village is amazing! The rooms are clean and well equipped and include washing machine and dishwasher. Rita was very hospitable, thank you!
Review 57:It is located quite high up on the mountain and on most occasions you would need to drive down to the town itself; this however does have its advantages and the drive down and finding parking is fine. Terraces are not too private.
Review 58:Being so high up it is very quiet and serene. The terrace and sea views are excellent. The location is excellent for visiting both the Cinque Terre and Portofino / Rapallo. Great value for money!!
Review 59:GPS cannot find the exact address, only can find the street. But it doesn't matter, because along that street there are many signs showing the direction of the hotel.
Review 60:The apartment is neat, large,well-equipped, and the most important is the oceanic view, and so quiet and peace in the vicinity. The old lady in charge of the hotel is very friendly and responsible.
Review 61:The caretaker for this apartment was more than accomodating. We arrived late, frazzled and hungry. She met us in a small town and escorted us to the apartment at 10:30 at night. She tried to offer us a meal and went to a local restaurant to obtain something for us to eat. Renee was a beautiful and sweet italian lady. Hope to see her again someday. We would've never found the place but it's vista and the restaurant around the bend proved to be one of our favorite highlights of our trip.
Review 62:The porches / railings overlooking the sea could use some work and clean up. Not that I didn't like it, but the drive up to the property is quite harrowing - the smaller the car the better :)
Review 63:Six of us stayed in the villa and had plenty of room. It's nothing fancy, but very simple and clean with great views of Moneglia and the sea. Close enough to get to Cinque Terre in an hour or so. Gracious and welcoming staff.
Review 64:1. 30 min walk from the beach on the hill (hence the view). 20 m down 40 min up 2. no english (only italian speaking) 3. it's not easy to find parking in the city 4. you have to be on a car, so no drinking during most of the stay
Review 65:1. spacious 2. sea view 3. relatively calm city 4. Near Portofino & 5 Terre 5. Nice beach 6. cordial hostess 7. relatively cheap prices in the restorants in the city and good local food.
Review 66:We stayed for a couple of nights and would have liked to stay for more. The apartment was well equipped with a beautiful terrace with amazing views. Rita was extremely helpful.
Review 67:You need to speak a bit of Italian (at a basic level) to communicate with the hostess. The rails on the terrace were rusty and in need of painting.
Review 68:Absolutely lovely location with a captivating view of the sea. Very friendly host, but you need to speak a bit of Italian :-)
Review 69:No bad comments, just one thing, It's realy hard to find this hotel, you should be skilled to drive along the mountain, and ask several people, but which is not bad, it's really special experience.
Review 70:The Hotel is located on the mountain of town, which has a pretty equiped Kitchen, and large room, and especially a very nice view balcony, you could see the Mediterranean sea. If you like cooking, you would like to have a fantastic dinner at nice view balcony, you found it here!!!!
Review 71:Local grocery store is small and a bit expensive compared to the bigger ones.
Review 72:The View from the apartment is absolutely beautiful. Staff is more than helpful and apartment is clean, well equipped and comfortable. Silent area. Parking place available. Bus to the village (1,80€, from the tourist info), though a car is recommended. Lovely village with a nice beach and events.
Review 73:The accommodation is located along long way from Moneglia up a steep, narrow and dangerous road. The building itself has no sign, so difficult to know if you have arrived. The parking is a nightmare. Having braved the road up, we decided to abandon the car and walk back to Moneglia for the beach (a long hike). Disappointed that we did not have the sea view posted on the website, our view was obscured by trees, and other buildings. Facilities very basic in the flat. Verrry overpriced considering the inconvenient location of the accommodation. We wouldn't recommend it to others.
Review 74:The beach at Moneglia was OK, that said the public beach is small and the sand isn't golden (the postcards have been retouched).
Review 75:Nothing - loved it all - if I really had to try and nit pick I would say that the decor could be modernized slightly.
Review 76:We loved the location which had beautiful views and even though it was elevated had a reliable bus service that took 10 min to the beach. Rita the lady in charge of the accommodation was outstanding - she had limited english but did everything in her power to make us as comfortable as she could - she is a real asset.
Review 77:Excellent hostess but we were ignorant and didn't learn any Italian before our visit! She did the best she could with us. Gave us rides back down to town, picked us up and dropped us at the train. Awesome! Villa is at the top of the hill which was spectacular. But take the bus to get up and down...much too steep and far to walk to "town"/shopping/restaurants.
Review 78:The location is a ways from the small beach in the area. you need to drive up and down the mountain. The view does make up for it. Now that I know, I would still consider it for a future stay.
Review 79:I loved the staff and the apartment. It was everything it said it would be. No disappointments there. Not far from the other Cinque Terre locations as long as you have a car.
Review 80:We loved it, but if you want easy access to the beach, this is not the place for you. There is a beautiful view of the water and the town and a nearby church rings the chimes on the hour. So pack your groceries and plan to settle in!
Review 81:This is a spacious villa about two km from town and the beach. You don't want to plan on walking here unless you just want the exercise! But the switchbacks are worth it for the beautiful view from the large deck or yard. Our unit slept 15, had 2 bathrooms, full kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine. Rooms are spacious!
Review 82:Nothing.
Review 83:The place is definitely perfect if you are a bigger group that needs space. We were a group of 5 and we had a whole apartment where 8 people could fit. Lots of facilities where available for our confort. And most importantly, we were travelling in Italy by train and one of the hosts, Rita, picked up at night from Moneglia train station and gave us her cellphone number so that we could call her on the next morning to take us back to the train station.
Review 84:Very clean. Nice shower and comfortable bed. Every room with its own WIFI. Very nice view of the ocean and Moneglia. The host is helpful and very nice. We would recommend this place to our friends. If you want to walk to the town and beach you have to consider that it's a twenty five minutes walk uphill. You have to be fit to do this. But you can also take the minibus. Sehr sauber. Schönes Bad mit geräumiger Dusche und Waschmaschine. WIFI in jedem Appartment.
Review 85:No complaints.
Review 86:Excellent service! Was a just a bit difficult to find, but was in a beautiful location.
Review 87:The view was not as good s on the picture!!!
Review 88:Need to have a sign of the apartment so visitors can find the place! Limited wifi.
Review 89:Clean. Good size.
Review 90:-
Review 91:Great sea view from the terrace, nice comfortable place, ca 30 minutes walk down to Moneglia
Review 92:Bed is uncomfortable
Review 93:Need Better matrrss and better directions otherwise really nice
Review 94:The apartments are fully furnished and beautiful. Really enjoyed living over there and talked with Rita who is the nicest woman I have ever seen.
Review 95:Quite a climb from the city center if you miss the bus
Review 96:Awesome view from some of the rooms
Review 97:Great view, super friendly staff
Review 98:Steep drive up the hill
Review 99:Kind cheerful host. Nice view off of the terrace. Very spacious. Modern kitchen and bathroom.
Review 100:Marking Places to Booking (map) does not reflect reality
Review 101:Could have welcome fruets tea or smthng
Review 102:Cool Francho - the host. Very helpful!
Review 103:Very good. A lot of space, magnificent view. Excelent terace.
Review 104:Beautiful View Very friendly and helpful Free reserved parking Lovely patio Free wi-fi
Review 105:Towels
Review 106:Elevation, space, value for money, Rita.
Review 107:We enjoy Rita hospitality.
Review 108:Far up the mountain
Review 109:Quiet
Review 110:disorganization of front desk
Review 111:price
Review 112:The location of the apartment was too far away from the town to be able to just walk. Transportation is a must. The telephone in the room did not work although there was one in the entry way. (The central foyer connected to the other apartments in the building.)
Review 113:Much to our surprise when we arrived at the train station and asked for a taxi, the ticket agent informed us that "Rita" who works for the apartment complex would be providing us transportation. We learned that this was part of the fees for the week. She spoke very little English and along with the little Italian we know we all were able to get by. Having a private apartment overlooking the ocean was very relaxing when we had breakfast out on the balcony every morning. The apartment was spacious for three adults and two children for the amount of time spent in the actual rooms. After having spent four days in Venice it was nice to come here to relax and be able to do laundry right in our apartment. Hourly, a bus drives up the mountain and stops right in front of the apartment and will drop you off in town. Bus passes were also included if we needed them.
Review 114:Nothing at all (although the residence would be difficult to reach without a car).
Review 115:The apartment (n.6) was good-sized and well-equipped with a large terrace and stunning views over the bay. The manager/hostess was exceptionally kind and friendly, and actually drove us to and from the town several times (saving us a long and steep walk).
Review 116:Most romantic place I have ever stayed. Our room opened up to the balcony and even the bathroom opened up to a balcony with a view of the sea. Church bells woke you up at 9 am. The most difficult road we have ever driven, but that is part of the delight. Our older children jumped out of the minivan to help us get around tight corners in the road. It wasn't dangerous, just really old and breath taking views of the sea the whole way up the road. Each room is different. The whole place is wonderful. Very non-traditional. I sat on the roof garden and watched the sunrise with a cup of coffee, panoramic view of the sea and the city tucked into the edge of the mountain. Very romantic.
Review 117:Access to the train station by foot is very challenging since this hotel sits on top of a very long, steep hill (maybe 3 km kilometers from the train station). I would not recommend this hike. There is limited bus availability (unsure of the cost). Here is the actual address of the hotel: Frazione Lemeglio, 71 16030 Moneglia GE Italy
Review 118:Great Staff. Rita was very friendly and helpful. Extremely clean with all needed kitchen items except microwave. did have a toaster oven, dishwasher, pots & pans, siver and glassware.
Review 119:The apartment view is exquisite. The hostess is extremely welcoming and most attentive. There is not a matter she would not help you with at any time of the day. The stay was utmost enjoyable.
Review 120:There is a few buses per day from and to the rail station. Parking close to the station about 15 EUR/day.
Review 121:The view from balcony (on the first floor) was great, but from the ground floor could be better. Free garage and good wifi.
Review 122:Hard to find, difficult to get to. Minimal, but adequate facilities.
Review 123:Loved Rita for her flexibility and assistance; friendly and attentive. Breathtaking views, great access to hiking. Good step-off to Cinque Terre.
Review 124:Distance into town, but it's fine so long as you have a car and the view is well worth it.
Review 125:Franco could not have been more helpful as this is a little tricky to find, but well worth not being in the town as the view (when we could see through the rain) was stunning. The apartment was well equipped and the kitchen functional. Next time I might stay closer to Cinque Terre, but we saw all we wanted to see from here as our base.
Review 126:It was difficult to get to. Our GPS tried to take us up an un-used road. Took a couple of hours and a very circuitous route to get there. Once arrived, we left the car in the garage as the roads are very narrow.
Review 127:Beautiful views, apartment was fully furnished and everything we needed. impeccably clean. We could walk to the village and took the train to Cinque Terre.
Review 128:Up the tough hillroad, approx 1.5 km from Moneglia. Bus is cruising 6-8 times a day - if you miss one, 2 hours waiting. Bus is quite expensive - 3 euros for 100 minutes, if you exceed that, buy new ticket. Nothing near hotel except a church - you have to go down to Moneglia for everything. Driving up the road needs skill.
Review 129:Apartments are spacious, well-equipped kitchen, very impressive terrasses. Perfect sea and mountain views.
The Fine Print
