Reviews for The Menjangan

Review 1:Very expensive by Bali standards. Very bumpy rough track to get to the hotel reception and then again to and from the beach villas. Need some tarmac there chaps! Bathrooms to the beach villas are open to the elements and you are exposed to loads of biting mosquitoes every time you shower or use the toilet at night! As a consequence - the bedroom is also full of them, making sleep impossible without a mosquito net over the bed. We took our own, but they should be provided by the hotel at that price.

Review 2:Staff wonderfully attentive and lovely. Had a beach front villa. Absolutely gorgeous location. Superb. Nice restaurant close by serving good food to tables on the wooden jetty. (Very nice once you get used to insects dropping into your food from the trees overhead).

Review 3:Nothing i didnt like. But travellers beware. If you hate insects, spiders, snakes or nature in general. This place is NOT for you. However, if you would like to connect with nature, there is not a better place to start. If you hate travelling. This place is far. If you are on a budget. This place will break you wallet. But once you are here you understand how amazing it is.

Review 4:Second time to Bali. Found this place on the internet. What a find! Staff is incredible the place is amazing. We were supposed to stay 3 nights. Changed it to 5 nights. Would have stayed another 2. The place is like being on a safari you see so much wildlife and the views and smells. You feel like you are somewhere so remote and beautiful. The first three nights we stayed at the resort. Really nice and comfy. The other 2 we decided to splurge at stayed at the beach villas. Both have their own charm. I dived, kayaked and horse back ride. All of them worth every penny!

Review 5:cockroaches in the room (but there is a a spray available and it's nature). actually jungle lodge is not at the beach - about 10min drive with shutle, no Chance to get out easily from the Resort - you have to buy everything within the Resort and this is quite expensive in comparison with Bali Prices, e.g. dinner, snorkel trip and gear > 70€ p.p., Airport pick up 80€ (other hotel only wanted 50€),

Review 6:Very friendly staff!!! Excellent! Delicious Food - actually a cook from switzerland (costs about €10-20 per dish). Very nice beach for nothern Bali - White sand; nice coral reef.

Review 7:The flies. When we were there beginning of September, there were so many flies. We couldn't really enjoy our meal before sunset. They were only gone afterwards. The price of activities are on the high end. Snorkeling trip to Menjangan costs c.a. €50 per person though it is actually quite near. The price of restaurant is also comparably high in Bali. But is acceptable if using European standard. The room is not equipped with mosquito net. you have to switch on the air con to sleep.

Review 8:The staff are very helpful and friendly. The location within national park is wonderful. Their riff coral is comparable to some part of Menjangan Island. The restaurants provide delicious meals. Breakfast was wonderful. The view from Bali tower is amazing.

Review 9:The cleanest part of Bali and the most scenic. Great snorkeling and heaps of activities. Service was top notch. A commitment to restoring the bio-diversity of the wildlife a big plus.

Review 10:The équipements/accomodations were a bit old and would need some refreshing/refurbishment works.

Review 11:The great location, right in front of the Menjangan Island. The staff very kind and available at all time. The quality of the breakfast. The resort globaly great, nice for a retreat far from all other places/people. We spent 2 nights in a room at the Lodge and 1 in a Beach villa (way cleaner/nicer but with outdoor bathroom, which is not ideal at night).

Review 12:We thought that the plastic rubbish could be removed more frequently and more thoroughly from the water, the beach and the mangrove area.

Review 13:We really liked the helpful and charming staff and enjoyed the opportunity to relax in such peaceful and beautiful surroundings. We really enjoyed the snorkelling and birdwatching activities.

Review 14:The only downside is the transfer - 4 hours. The car that picked us up came equipped with cushions, neck rests, fruit, nuts and snacks, so everything that could have been done to mitigate the journey had. If you can look past the transfer time, once you get there you will see it was worth it.

Review 15:The resort is absolutely beautiful, and the staff second to none. Our suite was kept immaculately - every time we left everything was refreshed and cleaned. All the activities were incredible - guides knowledgeable and the snorkelling out of this world. Pool clean, warm and delightful. Jeeps always available to take you from place to place with virtually no waiting. Even though we visited in the rainy season, we were able to tailor our activities to coincide with the sun. It was very hot, even with the rain. Can't recommend the Menjangan highly enough. We would certainly go again.

Review 16:If you want to do any activity you have to book it via the Hotel. The staff is really helpful and nice but the prices are quite high for Bali.

Review 17:Beautiful location. We stayed there at the end of the dry season. I think in April/May it must be even more beautiful if everything is green. Monsoon lodge was nice with the relaxing pool but the beach Villa is awesome!!! Snorkeling at Menjangan is a must do. The underwater worl there is just amazing. Food is in both restaurants really delicious.

Review 18:Went to dive Menjangan Island with friends after living in Bali but wanted to stay somewhere nice. The only bad thing was we dived so much & didn't get time to enjoy the benefits of staying at a Spa Retreat

Review 19:Not much. But it has a price.

Review 20:The location so close to Menjangan Island. How quiet the place was, inside Barat National Park. I loved how the infrastructure was respectful of the natural environment. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 21:nothing

Review 22:Great breakfast Exellent rooms Good and pleasant transport between the different units Many activities possible: diving, horse riding, kajak, Very quiet location Ecological

Review 23:Nothing.

Review 24:We stayed in a Beach Villa and would highly recommend this to everyone. Waking up to a panoramic view of the beach and ocean beyond was truly amazing. The bed was enormous and the outdoor bathroom still felt very private. The food was always excellent and the staff extremely courteous. We made good use of the cocktail hours most evenings too. Being in National Park there was plenty of wildlife to keep us entertained including monkeys, deer and birds. We also went snorkelling at Menjangan Island which was by far the best thing we did during our stay in Bali.

Review 25:The prices for diving and activities are high If you are there for more than 5 days you are stuck with the same food everyday

Review 26:-It is paradise, truly!

Review 27:None

Review 28:Room, environment, activities, food, friendly staffs, deers,

Review 29:The comfort and the privacy with the excellent service and the snorkeling possibilities as well as other sport activities makes the place unique

Review 30:Nothing

Review 31:Snorkeling and horseback riding. Nature was awesome.

Review 32:It's a beautiful, uncrowded place with great activities including superb snorkeling.

Review 33:Had to wait for quite long for dinner to be served

Review 34:Great hospitality

Review 35:Location long drive to get there

Review 36:Location very quite

Review 37:Remote but with all facilities. Perfect. Nice beaches. Great snorkelling.

Review 38:quite expensive

Review 39:friendliness of staff, snorkelling, quality of food

Review 40:Food, massages, cycling

Review 41:Location, service, activities

Review 42:It's a shame that a hotel with environment purposes let the garbage that comes from the sea on the beach. Around the mangrooves we could see lots of plastic packages and bottles. We could'n understand why the hotel didn't care to the cleaness of the nature. Other point: Although the hotel is located in a National Park with a lot of green around, we still can hear the noise of the street.

Review 43:Inside a National Park, so you can see and hear the animals, local vegetation and feel close to the nature. Rooms are very comfortable and big. Diversity of food, Asian and European. Beautiful spaces. Well decorated.

Review 44:Lack of drinking water. It should be available more readily and in large bottles.

Review 45:Beautiful surroundings. Great food, especially at the beach restaurant. Friendly and courteous staff. Good activities to choose from.

Review 46:Wi-Fi in Bali is notoriously awful, this place is no exception. The scuba diving was good but, overpriced and my wetsuit was very old and had a giant hole in it; definitely not up to the typical Menjangan standards.

Review 47:The attentive service, the landscaping, the transportation to and from the beach and the beach massages amongst the mangroves. The food is some of the best we ate in Bali. This resort is very restful and best for the kind of people who want to get away from it all.

Review 48:True luxury in a beautiful environnent. Amazing and generous breakfast. Excellent service: drivers on site to go from part of the resort to another, great recommendations on activities... Perfect rooms.

Review 49:Distance from airport but that's just how it is if you want to discover such an incredible place

Review 50:The location was stunning and gave a different perspective of Bali

Review 51:Poor breakfast Thin room walls - can hear you neighbors Nothing withing walking distance from the hotel

Review 52:Great territory Great swimming Great service

Review 53:In my opinion, it is hard to get around, you completely depend on the hotel employee to take you from one point to another.

Review 54:Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast is super!

Review 55:The boat trip

Review 56:Snorkelling at Menjangan Island, Beautiful location, wild deer wandering past at breakfast, sunset horseriding, cool open-top transport - like being on safari, great range of high quality meals (Western and local) on the pier, lovely villa, kid-friendly, tree-covered pool, sunrise and sunset from the headland, his and hers massage, starfish

Review 57:took very long to get there from southern Bali and back, spent nearly 5 hours travelling each way (with stops). Quite expensive for what it is, and without your own car, you are trapped and must pay high prices for food and diving. Also waiting for the hotel bus to take us to the beach was sometimes annoying. Diving here was double the price as Gili islands.

Review 58:Nice location in a non touristy part of Bali. Lots of wildlife in the hotel grounds, good diving, food pretty good. Great views from the Bali tower.

Review 59:The places to swim are full of coral and fishes, this can be a bit dangerous as one can´t always know what it is stepping on.

Review 60:A quiet place, with a lot of activities. The food was also very good. The staff was amazing taking care of all our needs.

Review 61:Although the staff was excellent, friendly and gave good customer service, they were a bit too attentive. There were a lot of questions about what our plans were for the day, at all times, and I think at a resort, the staff should recede and remain more invisible, then reminding the guests that they needed to make plans all the time. Other than that, we have no complaints about the people who served us, delightful.

Review 62:First, it is truly an eco-resort in the sense it is modestly built and is integrated with the landscape. We appreciated this and the remoteness. The hotel informed us they had upgraded us when we arrived. They gave us a beach bungalow, because they had room. This made our stay, we were right on the coast, the Mangroves, the beauty, the quiet, truly beautiful. We were impressed with the generosity of the staff deciding to do that. Thank you! The food was excellent, and eating outside on the beach, or having a cooling drink at the small bar, just a short walk from our bungalow was superb. The "spa" was an outdoor, shaded platform, over the water, and set into the mangroves. I had one treatment (as a treat to myself) and it was excellent, and so relaxing because you were totally in nature, listening to the sound of lapping water and birds. I had never experienced a spa like this. A+ Overall, I would highly recommend staying here, all good.

Review 63:Nothing!

Review 64:Everything! From the moment we arrived to the second we left, we weretreated like royalty. The staff is incredibly nice, the resort isbeautiful. We stayed at the Monsoon Jungle Resort but went to the beacheveryday. It's not your typical "beach" but it is verysecluded and probably one of the only places in Bali where you are notsurrounded by tourists. There is a lot to do and the hotel arrangeseverything and is also aware of your plans for the day so they canaccommodate you. The two restaurants were good, the one on the beach hasgreat views but only went there for breakfast. You could probablysnorkel or dive Menjangan Island from coastal towns for a lot cheaperbut it is worth every penny to stay here. Highly recommended!.

Review 65:* The fact that the diving was cancelled the last minute* Staff could speak better English

Review 66:* Great activities list (snorkeling, massage, etc.)* Nature -- the hotel is inside a park; you get to see animals, relax walking in the forest. * Nice rooms

Review 67:Different means not always good. The discription on the website raiseshigh expecationts. Here a few points: Quiet and peacful? Basically yesbut if you are in the Bali Tower ( One of two restaurants) the Street isvery loud. Nice Beach? I have Never Seen a Hotel with that Kind of Beachwho actually states having a nice beach. Dirt and garbage everywhere, novisibility, dangerous mangrove roots, you can hurt yourself very badly.4 Stars? On the surface yes but actually no, all in all at most 3 Stars. This Hotel has its Best Times already Seen a Long Time ago. It is hardto maintain such a Big areal however they just Do a Bad Job. Nicesnorkeling? Just no.... Bottom line. No value for money.

Review 68:The Ressort is different compared to everything else. RomanticRestaurant in the middle of mangroves.

Review 69:Snorkelling at Menjangan Island, massage under the mangroves, cocktails and delicious meals on the deck over the sea, watching the animals and birds, joining highly knowledgeable Putu for walks round the park, the friendly and super-efficient service.

Review 70:Very remote, about a 5 hour car drive from the airport, once you get there, you are stuck there for all meals. We stayed near the pool and the restaurant was near the beach and you have to take a 10 minute car ride (roads are all stony and not developed). The Massage was absolutely horrible. Food is a bit pricy as are the activities (snorkeling, scuba etc)

Review 71:very quiet and full of nature: birds, deer, monkeys and even horses and boars. In the morning there is a symphony of birds waking you up. For those needing quiet, this is perfect. We went there in May and if you go during the rainy season it can be quite damp. Late in the dry season everything turns brown.

Review 72:We booked for 4 days at the Menjangan, but only stayed for 2 days. Wehardly slepped because of a 40 cm gekko inside the room above our bed. There were also lots of big spiders and other bugs around. We weren't the right people at the right place...

Review 73:The Menjangan is in the middle of the forest and very attractive if youlike nature and the wild life. Also a very good place to stay if youlike diving. We stayed for 2 days and booked for 4days. After we told the staff that we would leave, the didn't charge us the other 2 days we booked. That's super service.

Review 74:We find some bin in the mangrove beach

Review 75:Best location, good staff they do everything what they must do perfect, good food specialy for b'fast. High recommended for honeymoon and family retreat......

Review 76:- Staffs are very friendly. - Well maintained guest room - Great breakfast in beautiful settings (choice of mangrove/beachside or tower overlooking forest)

Review 77:Since it was low season they had closed the Bali tower for dinner. Which is not a problem, as there is a nice beach restaurant. But the beach restaurant is in open air only. So when it rains you will have to eat at the bar or in your room. which is not a problem for one night but for multiple rainy evenings it is not ideal. The Manager told us that they are looking at a covered extension of the bar area.

Review 78:Quiet location Beatiful rooms Excellent breakfasts

Review 79:We thought the hotel was outdated, and needed a complete revamp. We wereactually shocked based on other reviews, and the description by thehotel that it was a luxury hotel. Our room was dark and damp. We had theworst mattress we've ever had on a vacation, the springs were pokingthrough. I spoke with the management, but did not receive an apology. Iwas advised the mattress would be changed. I watched them swap it fromanother room, for a cheap bad mattress. We could not stay another night, even though we were booked for a week, as the "new" mattresswas still bad, and the air conditioner did not work, and the roof wasleaking rain into the room, and on our bed. The manager did not chargeas the week's "cancellation" fee, as he said it was therefault, but he left me with an employee, while he left the premises, andthe employee charged me the full nights fee. I asked for a discount, buthe kept saying that it was their fault, but they were not charging usthe cancellation fee. This was the worst night of our vacation. Also youhave to eat at the hotel, as it is so far from everything, and the foodwas very mediocre, and it did not seem fresh at all. On returning to ournext hotel I became very sick. I don't know if it was the foodthere, or not. Overall we had a terrible experience. I feel sorry forthe staff as they do try so hard.

Review 80:The staff were friendly, and were very talkative. They really wanted theguests to have a good time.

Review 81:tranquil site, no mass tourism around, snorkelling, very friendly staff, the rustic feel

Review 82:Activities, particularly snorkling Restaurant, fantastic breakfast Very relaxed atmosfer Very helpful staff

Review 83:We loved the location and the friendliness of all there. We also loved the amazing breakfasts in beautiful surroundings.

Review 84:Best snorkelling trip in Bali with super-friendly guide to island Menjangan. Also to take one of the lovely beach villa is a must.

Review 85:Could improve the materials in the bathroom (Residence), quite old. Should clean the beach area (many rubbish).

Review 86:Staff is very nice. Good food

Review 87:fantastic place

Review 88:Can't really think of anything.

Review 89:The nature and snorkeling! Really one of the most relaxed spots in Bali, away from the main tourist sites.

Review 90:manager, staff were great. location was great.
