Reviews for Kupu Barong Villas & Spa By L'Occitane

Review 1:Our villa's front door did not close all the way - the door did not fit properly. There was also no seal along the edge of the door. Every sunset led to moths and more insects creeping inside the villa and we were unable to leave the villa every evening for fear of getting more insects inside the villa.

Review 2:Very friendly staff. Included breakfast and afternoon tea with our villa.

Review 3:Really enjoying our stay in Kupu Kupu Barong, they gave us one of their best villa which have view of Ayung River and rice paddies. Really appreciate that they listened and granted our request to have those views from our villa.

Review 4:The villa we had really needs new air conditioners. They are old and "only just" adequate.

Review 5:This resort is one of the most beautiful places I've stayed in Bali. It's a little way out of Ubud but a shuttle runs every hour. We had a beautiful villa with a magical view of the valley and jungle. Staff were superb. Nothing too much trouble and quick to respond. Great buggy travel around the resort. Perfect sunset every night. Ideal for a romantic holiday. Thank you Kupu Kupu for such a wonderful experience

Review 6:The staff was always overdoing it for welcoming and hinting for tips, always asking for my plan for the day which i did n`t like . The breakfast was very nice but needs more choices to match different cultures (ex: Not cheese at all )

Review 7:The view from the room was amazing , privacy of the pool , interior decoration

Review 8:If we had more money we would have stayed longer. Have marked it down slightly as it is a little distance away from Ubud centre, however they do provide a shuttle, and taxis are cheap, have to pre-book however.

Review 9:Service was amazing from the greeting to us leaving. Our villa was spacious and clean, very well secluded and had its own pool, was perfect for a couples get away.

Review 10:Nothing, the staff made sure every issue we had (such as our luggage being delayed at the airport) with fantastic attention to detail and care.

Review 11:The staff were wonderful and extremely helpful. The food was delicious and the location was central meaning it was easy to get to various excursions or activities. The spa is a little pricey but well worth it.

Review 12:Everyday noises coming from the valley starts around 8 am. Verydisturbing tree cutting noises, electric saw that demolish the point ofstaying at Ubud for relaxing :(.- The food from Laview resturant is really terrible. No taste, unconsistant and very limited menu. -The staff are friendly but the service is very very slow. Example, I ordered 2 Lemon Juice and they told me it will take 30 minutes!! -The phone at the villa was not working during my last day. I had to walk to the resturant to make orders! -The Villa I got was marketed at Booking with a private pool! Is that really a pool! A small tub with cold water! Trust me, i didnt use it at all! -The gym is a joke with 30 years old rusty Two machines. I stayed at many of Ubud resorts and this was the worst.

Review 13:Location is decent

Review 14:The hotel is way too expensive for what it is and the location is outside the centre. Also, with the beauty of Ubud, we found that we hardly spent any time at the hotel, which did not warrant the exorbitant price of the hotel.

Review 15:The location is fantastic. The staff are friendly and always willing to help. Also, the breakfast is good and sizeable.

Review 16:Nothing

Review 17:Amazing tranquil setting with wonderful staff and services available. Beautiful food at the restaurants with stunning scenery. The best place I've ever stayed. Would love to come back again. The room was incredible and tastefully decorated.

Review 18:Nothing!

Review 19:This is a peaceful tranquil calm in the middle of Ubud. Only $6 taxi to the main restaurant area if you don't want to wait for the shuttle. Staff are exceptional. Food is fantastic. Perfect romantic getaway.

Review 20:The sun sets too early to enjoy the view more!

Review 21:We came here for our honeymoon and everything was perfect! The staff were very friendly and couldn't do more to help. We had the twilight dinner which was delicious but as the sun sets at 6 we missed the view but still hear the river below. I also went to the tree top spa which was worth the money as the location was brilliant.

Review 22:Outside room balcony wood deck needs attention. Not sure the (cold)sauna tub on our balcony functioned properly.

Review 23:Service was the BEST! Amazing service! Room was spacious and well decorated. Very relaxing atmosphere.

Review 24:The bed squeaked whenever we moved.

Review 25:The room was spacious and comfortable. The grounds were filed with trees and flowers. There was a good view over the valley and forest.

Review 26:I hate leaving actually

Review 27:Everything to be honest, i had so much fun with my wife during our honeymoon, so relaxing, the people are so friendly and helpful.

Review 28:staff needs better guidance to serve guests - otherwise it is not a luxurious ressort improve ressorts own restaurants in terms of service, facilities and quality of food

Review 29:choose the club villa massage in the tree

Review 30:Found it difficult to communicate sometimes with the staff who appeared to understand with a well practiced smile, but then nothing happened. If you can't climb 10 flights of stairs without collapsing forget this location. You will become a prisoner in your beautiful villa.

Review 31:Serene and beautiful landscape with exceptional facilities not too far away from the eclectic and artsy Ubud. Spa is top notch and each of the spa rooms were luxurious and clean.

Review 32:The location says it all. We had booked a River Pool Villa at the resort and it was nothing less than AWESOME! A perfect setting...Scenic view of the Paddy fields and Ayung river, Amazing Rooms, Delicious Food, Wonderful People and the list goes on.

Review 33:Location is a little bit of far from Ubud center. When you stay at the hotel, you have to dine in there. We stay at the delux room and the building is very quiet. Only us enjoyed the swimming pool and restaurant.

Review 34:The room deco is very luxury and romantic, hotel staff are nice and helpful, breakfast is fantastic. Highly recommend La View restaurant which has a view of the forest and mountain. Food taste good. 5-star quality for everything. Value for money!

Review 35:the room wasn't clean Some of the lights was broken Some spaces between the door and the windows to let bugs and ants to come in The stuff was good and trying their best but the management was not active to solve our issues till we rase unissue with the top management

Review 36:we liked the view only

Review 37:The hotel asked the client to pay right upfront at check in. This makes us feel we are not trusted. Have never experienced this before at anywhere outside Bali.

Review 38:The decor of the room and the hotel. love the roof top swimming pool and the amazing view.

Review 39:I like the feeling of being in the jungle wheretrees are sorrounding you from everywhere and the view of the river from my room with everything is available and you are safe too. I recommend the Ayung river pool villa

Review 40:Everything!! -Cleanses : bed sheets are dirty, room full of insects & biting ants, towels are so old and tore out. -Bugs & flies. -Bed was awefull not comfortable.. If u turn the bed moves and makes noise that is very irritating. -Poor wifi. -The room was OVERPRICED.. Not money worth at all.

Review 41:I went for my honey moon.. Only three good things in this hotel were: the restaurant food is so good, the view of room & staff were so polite & friendly. Other than these, I strongly recommend not to stay there. If you look for quality hotel don't think of this one. My suggestion is to do a day trip to Ubud area & come back.. But don't stay there even. The whole area is not clean.. Do one day trip to visit the jungle & maybe dine in the hotel resturant then go back to Kuta or Nusadua.

Review 42:This was a hugely disappointing experience for us. The room was tucked away in a dank, dark corner with very poor drainage so we were always walking through puddles of mud. It didn't help that the pool overflow fell literally onto our porch. The towels were grey and old, the breakfast was rushed and mediocre at best, and the staff - while very well meaning and completely lovely - were poorly trained. We informed reception we wanted to check out early in the morning and wanted to pay our bill. Two hours later (8pm) they said it was ready but we were already preparing for bed. At 10:30pm (when we were already asleep) they called to ask if we wanted a wake up call! Gee thanks, but I think we already got it! It was very disappointing as we had high expectations, but this is definitely one resort that is past it's prime. Would not recommend to anyone.

Review 43:The Mango Tree spa was excellent. Staff were lovely and friendly but not well trained.

Review 44:Staff can be really slow at serving breakfast and for check in/out. Wifi very slow and not always working Outings and transport booked through the hotel are quite expensive

Review 45:Room decoration Setting (views) Calm Very friendly and smiling staff

Review 46:It is very expensive especially the spa and massage.

Review 47:I love how the staff are so friendly and they are very welcoming. The comfort of the room is excellent, and the service from the hotel is excellent.

Review 48:What I didn't like that I didn't want to leave that wonderful place

Review 49:Friendly, welcoming and helpful staff (putu , sugi) Room View Clean Delicious breakfast with varieties Clean private pool Full privacy ( private villa with private pool ayung villa forest) Excellent room service

Review 50:Be very careful, the cheaper room is not part of the building. It is a brend new building completely at a lower standard compare to the old main facility. Restaurant not a 4 to 5 stars one, please avoid.

Review 51:Location, staff, main building, spa.

Review 52:Had some construction going on during our stay. I must say they did all they could to cause minimal disturbance (drilling / hammering during the middle parts of the day)

Review 53:Staff met every need that was asked. I proposed to my partner here and they were all very helpful.

Review 54:the restaurant - food was terrible, service was worse. The Spa - average service and very expensive The waiting - wait of over an hour for room service (comes down cold), 30 minute wait for a cocktail or a cup of coffee Poor communication from staff - never really sure if they understood what I wanted and often couldn't understand what they were saying

Review 55:the villa private pool butler service

Review 56:Very expensive spa treatments No late evening shuttle into Ubud 2 hour check in time - possible due to is booking the room that morning.

Review 57:Private pool and villa Round bathtub Bed and sleep quality Friendly staff and private butler Check out lounge Great breakfast

Review 58:- perfect location - perfect service - privacy (ayung river villa) - free shuttle to ubud center - free WiFi - amenities - ring service to villas - private butler - various satellite channels

Review 59:1- far from ubud center 2- the wifi was disaster 3- poor breakfast and poor service 3- the room was a little bit different than the photo that I have seen here but it is not a big deal 4- old furniture 5- bugs !!

Review 60:1- two floors villa with big swimming pool 2- friendly staff 3- best welcoming I have ever had

Review 61:The rooms were not really up to our expectation, the quality of the finishing was poor, there were no clothes hangers in the cupboard and the bath/shower did not drain properly so we were showering in ankle deep water. On our evening arrival we were booked in 2 days later than the confirmation email we received, we were extremely lucky to get a room - we actually got the last one. Overall the experience was OK, however I would not recommend this hotel to my friends and family.

Review 62:The staff were amazing, very attentive and provided a personalised service. The room cleanliness was great.

Review 63:The room was not the one on the picture. The breakfast the restaurant and the service were not good. The shuttle time too short. The location too far.

Review 64:We booked the river villa with private pool, but the place we got was completely different. Really smaller. The pictures on this site are not right and realistic. They changed our accomodation to please us but still was not the one seen on the site. By the way the villa was missing in maintanance. It's not looked after as it's supposed to be for the price you pay. No privacy: anyone could see us from outside whenever we wanted to enjoy the pool and the terrace.

Review 65:Great view over the river and the forest. Good breakfast.

Review 66:Fire alarm ring in early morning (around 2 pm) cos problem alarm

Review 67:Amazing view from our villa. Amazing staff very helpful and friendly.and close to ubud center 5-10 minutes with taxi. Everything was beatiful.

Review 68:They were 20 min late for our departure ( no buggy waiting).

Review 69:Everything

Review 70:There is no kitchen. There is no halal food for muslims.

Review 71:The place was awosome, quit , great views.

Review 72:We got the honeymoon package - it was great value for money! One of the best massages I have ever had - was at this spa.

Review 73:the Spa was fullybooked :(

Review 74:Not So clean , Bad smell in the room

Review 75:good location, near the river

Review 76:Great view Very friendly staff

Review 77:The friendliest staff

Review 78:Privacy

Review 79:Everything was perfect

Review 80:Everything at the hotel was overpriced

Review 81:Veiws pools restaurant

Review 82:Lovely place, amazing views, great massage. Would totally recommend this place.

Review 83:The shower

Review 84:Animo

Review 85:Spa was a bit expensive

Review 86:Everything, food/staff/spa/

Review 87:Everything ( location, dealing with staff and smell of the place )

Review 88:Nothing there to be liked!

Review 89:There is to much bugs

Review 90:Lovely place amazing view much of facility's friendly and professional staff

Review 91:Excellent service comes with excellent people. Every employee at Kupu Kupu were way above and beyond our expectations. Resort itself is one of the best hotel in Ubud. It is right above the forrest and Ayong River, spectacular location. Peacefulness, breathtaking views.. Twilight dinner was unforgettable experience. We will be back.

Review 92:Having to pay for laundry. The high cost of this accommodation should include laundry.

Review 93:The view from my room - excellent. All staff knew my name, this provided a very warm and welcoming feeling. Any request made was immediately attended to.

Review 94:Although the one of the main attraction of the place is the spa by L'Occitane, my wife and I felt that it is not worth it. It is very expensive and we regretted it, especially when they misinformed us regarding their promotions and overcharging me. The masseuse were great and the products they used were great. But we just did not feel that it was worth the money. Many people said that you can get good spa treatment for much less. Other than that it's a great resort.

Review 95:Incredibly beautiful villa hidden in Ubud area. A perfect getaway for my wife and I. We both really enjoyed the way the hotel was built, seamlessly part of nature. It is so peaceful and very well maintained. The villa we stayed in was amazing! Great view of a river and jungle. Lots of green everywhere. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend to people who want a peaceful getaway. Suitable to stay for a few days.

Review 96:None

Review 97:Kupu barong villas is very beautiful, quite, and peaceful. And sincere hospitality from the staffs was the best experience ever and it marked most in my heart. Excellent hospitality and services!!! For sure, Kupu Barong will be top preference if I visit Ubud in the future.

Review 98:Communication of staffs Surrounding of Room Balcony , the cushion n pool chair cleanliness poor Room shower water weak Bath towel rough

Review 99:Environment

Review 100:From the moment we pulled up we knew this boutique resort was different than the others we've stayed at in Bali. We've lived in Jakarta and traveled around Bali for the past 2 years (over 10 other locations in/around Ubud) and can speak with confidence that this has been the only 5 star experience we've truly had. We were upgraded to the Village Duplex which had a stunning view of the river and jungle. The food and service was exceptional, and it's worth mentioning that ALL staff had excellent English which isn't always the case in most other hotels in Ubud area. Also, they had a complementary shuttle that took you in every hour to the city. It was just a 15 min drive. The food at the restaurant was delicious (we at there most of the time) and they took note of my food allergy and consistently remembered it during our stay. Any requests and changes to menu items was welcomed and delivered. We felt fully taken care of and respected as guests. If you are going to pay the price to stay here, it is worth it to at least upgrade to the Duplex Village Villa. The original room we were meant to stay at was too close to the pool and we were happy not to stay there. The price difference is worth it and you get more value for your money with private entrance, 2 floors, 2 bathrooms, teak staircase and gorgeous marble bathtub and outside terrace where you can enjoy the sunset. Highly recommended for young/mature couples looking for a unique, high end and romantic experience close to Ubud.

Review 101:Insects, too many. It's basically in the forest so sometimes they can't have much control over it, but sometimes insects were in the room too. Also expensive in comparison with rest of the Ubud!

Review 102:Breathtaking & spectacular views

Review 103:Room service was average Some of the staff dont now how to smile. Restorants (average price $120 for two) You dont feel away from the city(Male)

Review 104:They provide life jackets and snokling equipments for free. In room dining (avreage price $50 for two meals) Was giving late check out for free.

Review 105:As everywhere in Bali the internet/ wi-fi service is not to the standard of European travelers. Expect some annoyance if you try to work while on holiday.

Review 106:When the driver of the airport pickup handed us water and a fresh towel scented with L'Occitane I knew we made a good choice. The resort is beautiful, the staff is extraordinary, helpful, friendly, responsive to needs etc. Somehow they all seemed to know my wife's and my name which was a very nice touch. They have great food at the restaurant. Nice little resort with great views. Make sure you take a hike with Dharma, he is an excellent guide and shows you interesting jungle staff and you learn a lot about local life.

Review 107:The Ayung Pool Villas have a very nice view and what you need for the relaxing holidays. Mango Tree Spa is very good also. Staff is very attentive and helpful.

Review 108:The very noisy geckos comming inside my room and littering every where.

Review 109:The location is great. The scene from the terrace is perfect. The romantinc dinner setting is lovely (though it was almost ruined by the geckos).

Review 110:Stayed in villa19 at the end of villas line, the great view had a cost of extra long stairs.

Review 111:Beautiful resort, great breakfast, river view with rice terrace, privacy.

Review 112:villas need renovation poor internet connection we had private pool which was quite dirty crazy prices for drinks very slow and unorganized service at breakfast

Review 113:welcome on arrive nice location quietness

Review 114:Villa 29 had no privacy as it is accessible by steps and other guests thought the steps were a public through way and ended up on our deck .The price at Xmas was very high 5 million rup per night for a villa with poor furniture such as a vinyl couch and with mould in the shower and accumulated dust under the bed and the fact that there was no privacy as the stairway to the villa was viewed as public and there were no signs indicating that it was a private stairway.

Review 115:The view from our villa was spectacular and the restaurant food and service was good as were the general facilities .

Review 116:I think they should have included airport pick up. The young woman onthe front desk had very poor English and appeared to not know whatshe was doing. She may have been there for Japanese guests but herEnglish was not good enough for English speaking guests and she justconfused things.

Review 117:The view from our room The peaceful atmosphere

Review 118:Unsuitable for couple with young children. Steep stairs, inappropriate protection for children. You pay for services which are not working ie.Wifi, TV only working every other day. No batteries in remote control... Despite asking management to change and improve - no effect. Overall location is nice but you pay a price for this hotel where you expect all services available and working but in fact it isn't.

Review 119:Quiet location with nice view. Friendly personal.

Review 120:Mosqueto .. pats .. we cant open the door after the sun set cuz the flies and pats .. the prise high .. and the toilet could be better

Review 121:Stuff werevvery helpfull .. location on the river.. sun set .. nature .. big effort to keap the villa clean ..

Review 122:the WiFi connection was very bad.

Review 123:This facility is the best place I have ever been, the view, weather, comfort and the staff were excellent. I stayed for five days for honeymoon and it was perfect. The staff were so helpful with the activities reservations and they were so familiar and well known about everything.

Review 124:Food it's tasty but litle options and there are no near restorants especially for me coz i don't like sweat sour and i dont like to try any food

Review 125:Staff , relaxation and very clean very quite actually it's very suitable for honeymooners

Review 126:We had a room that was at the far end of the resort so it took a bit ofa walk to get to the main area. Usually this would be fine but we werevery sore from trekking the days before.

Review 127:Very relaxing atmosphere and attentive staff. The grounds wereinteresting (clearly some history) and well kept, and the spa was verynice and clean. Breakfast (included for our stay) and dinner in therestaurant were high quality as well. Great value for the money.

Review 128:The restaurant could be a bit better, but is okay overall.

Review 129:Very cosy, friendly staff, wonderful spa experience on the mango tree (that's a must). The nature around is beautiful, and the location is great for rafting and Ubud sightseeing.

Review 130:shuttle service should be provided to the monkey forest area as well

Review 131:The grounds are beautifully manicured. The staff was outstanding and very friendly. The butlers attended to our desires immediately. Transportation was provided to our room when requested. fresh flower petals everywhere.

The Fine Print

Please note that the property offers free daily afternoon tea.
