Reviews for Solis Lough Eske Castle

Review 1:I think the spa slightly lets the resort down. The steam room, sauna and jacuzzi were all at quite low temperatures and the relaxation room quite cold when we visited.

Review 2:The staff were so very friendly and welcoming even organising a lovely dessert in our room for our arrival as it was our honeymoon.

Review 3:Food was not good. Rice solidified into a hard lump. Veg curry disappointing. Breakfast buffet cold. Milk dispenser not working. Salt and pepper empty. Coffee cold. The acoustics in function room poor. Paths slippery and not salted until 10am.

Review 4:Coffee plunger in room. Staff helpful although a lot were obviously casual and undertrained.

Review 5:We go to lough eske castle quite frequently through each year and have got to know all the staff there it's like meeting family when we arrive they always make a point of remembering special occasions when we come ie in October for my birthday and December for our anniversary and there's always a little something waiting for us in our room which is usually the same room we like and they try to book us into that room every visit.

Review 6:Had a small problem with the first room, but Geraldine at the desk sorted it and couldn't have been nicer.

Review 7:Staff were great, food was excellent and location and the castle were amazing.

Review 8:unfortunately a couple of guests at a wedding in a room close by kept us awake for most of our second night ...a phone call to reception quietened them briefly but unfortunately they started again later..hence the lack of sleep

Review 9:hotel was outstanding, Spa was lovely and staff were excellent

Review 10:The fact that we weren't able to stay longer.. ?

Review 11:Luxury that we're not accustomed to and outstanding customer service from every member of staff we encountered. Special mention to Johnny and Marcus in the restaurant. They made it a truly wonderful experience.

Review 12:How we were made feel so special as we visited for our anniversary. A cake in our room with a happy anniversary card on arrival, a special booth for dinner and complimentary truffles to mark the occasion. Attention to detail was second to none. Also, Nigel in the bar looked after us all weekend. He was such great craic!

Review 13:Breakfast not included in the price...didn't really think this made it value for money

Review 14:The staff were so helpful and the whole complex was so clean..our room was wonderful, and complimentary btls of water

Review 15:A table in the room was not cleaned properly. Probably only a one off. Certainly would return regardless.

Review 16:Staff are excellent very friendly and helpful. Beautiful hotel and relaxed atmosphere. I would highly recommend it.

Review 17:Our courtyard room was like an igloo!! Freezing cold and the thermostat was not working. They moved us to an upgraded room which was fab but the upgraded room was like a furnace, and again the thermostat wasn't working. We didn't have the heart to ask to be moved again. The Spa is located outside and was a real pain to access, especially considering the fact that the gardens leading to the spa were flooded due to a weekend of torrential rain. We're used to staying in hotels where you can walk to the Spa from your room in your gown and slippers. We would've needed wellies and waterproof gear to comfortably get to the Spa at Lough Eske.

Review 18:The meal in the Restaurant was incredible and the staff in the restaurant were fantastic. A great dining experience.

Review 19:I would question competitiveness of price for our room . It was a very good room - indeed a suite- but rather expensive for what was on offer eg no minibar and sparsely serviced fridge.

Review 20:Excellent facilities especially swimming pool and spa. Very friendly and helpful staff in what was a very relaxed environment.

Review 21:The food was v tasty but perhaps a little cold.

Review 22:We thoroughly enjoyed our whole experience of lough eske Castle. Loved the homeliness and the atmosphere created by a friendly staff without being over polite.

Review 23:Just thought the seating near the fire was quite shabby and a bit grubby beside the tearoom area. Also the curtain in our bedroom was slightly hanging askew - not a big thing but for the price, I expected more.

Review 24:The peace and luxury of the setting. The staff were fantastic. The food was lovely with lots of variety at breakfast. The cleaning staff did not make noise in the mornings whilst in the hallways - this can be very disruptive to rest/sleep in some hotels. The little touches were great like the tea-light on the bath, the good quality toiletries and the dessert left for us when we arrived.

Review 25:The food was very good in bar area. We have had better variety of breakfast. We think it overpriced and have stayed in much better & brighter 5 star hotels. Staff wee excellent. Everywhere very scattered.

Review 26:The only thing i would have liked was a memory foam topper or mattress, as i have one at home . This has spoiled us!!

Review 27:location, food and lovely friendly staff.

Review 28:Stunning location with easy access to the Donegal coast. Stayed in a deluxe room which was beautiful and well appointed. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 29:Everything was fine the room was great

Review 30:The staff were amazing best service I have experienced from a customer see ur point of view. The staff made of stay special and enjoyable. The food was out of this world and the grounds and just gorgus

Review 31:As a regular traveler in Ireland I found it too pricey and not value for money. I tried to book a deal by phone and was told the hotel was full yet managed to book via booking.com. The pool area is too small, as someone who likes to swim lengths other people in the pool made it difficult. The restaurant entrance and general area was out of kilter with other parts of the hotel and lacked character and atmosphere. Food served in the bar looked a better option.

Review 32:Staff very friendly; Rooms large and comfortable; courtyard area lovely gardens very well maintained; Historic connection with the old - now refurbished castle used as the reception area was welcoming. The bar had atmosphere and I enjoyed the entertainment.

Review 33:The web site could identify that it is not that close to Galway.

Review 34:The castle was beautifully redone The web site does imply that you are staying in a castle but in fact only two rooms are in the castle. The hotel accommodations are just ordinary. Food and staff were great.

Review 35:Breakfasts were too expensive. Go instead into Donegal to the Blueberry for great scones and coffee or for a Full Irish at a reasonable price. Frequented by locals.

Review 36:Ambiance in their supper bistro.

Review 37:Loud guest in courtyard and no one answered at the front desk when I called at 2:30 am for assistance.

Review 38:Breakfast service and choice amazing staff and selection for breakfast superb. Bellman Earno was wonderful and check in wonderful upon arrival

Review 39:The cost. We were obviously aware of the cost when we booked..I don't have the exact amount in front of me as I write this, but I believe it was around 440 euro for B&B for a couple for one night. We could never again justify that expense. Including our evening meal it cost us almost 600 euro. Definitely away overpriced.

Review 40:Overall ambiance of the building and surroundings were special, the food was exceptional and the staff were second to none.

Review 41:The restaurant (including the menu) was not extremely appealing and we therefore decided to eat in the bar (which was great, with a nice & cosy atmosphere)

Review 42:Excellent breakfast, large room, great swimming pool and charmful castle

Review 43:This was a bit pricey really (so I don't think it was value for money) and the food in the bar area was only average. The shower didn't drain properly and was pooling quite a lot, but it was attended to when we mentioned it to reception. There was a spot on the floor in our room that was sticky (so hadn't been properly cleaned previously) which I cleaned up myself.

Review 44:We were upgraded (which was nice, although I was looking forward to staying in a room that was part of the original buildings) - room was large and spacious with an enormous, high quality bathroom. Breakfast was fabulous. The bar area was nice and the staff were great. the grounds are lovely.

Review 45:One of the rooms on the front of the house is right outside a loading bay, there was noise unfortunately from 6am until 10 or 11 at night. The hotel did move us immediately once we told them of this.

Review 46:THe Spa treatments are very good, as are the staff most helpful and friendly.

Review 47:Cleanliness was not up to 5 star standard huge cobwebs especially round toilet area, just noticed previous reviews have mentioned cleanliness but obviously being ignored plus stains on the dressing gown in room, Poorly laundered, definitely NOT 5 star quality. Evening meal in the restaurant was distinctly average and poor value for money though service was excellent.

Review 48:Very good breakfast with excellent choice plus freshly cooked egg/omelette station. The staff we met were all friendly and helpful

Review 49:We loved the totally relaxing atmosphere of the hotel. Our room was immaculate, airy, spacious and extremely comfortable. The staff were very helpful and efficient and the breakfast arrangement and choice of food is superb.

Review 50:Got breakfast in room got changed 54e for it not included in price we though it was

Review 51:For a 5 star no towelling in room no 24 hours service for bar room service to slow wanted food and ice in room to slow

Review 52:bar menu was good but more selection/choices would be nice

Review 53:location and set up of the castle has the WOW factor short drive into the main town of Donegal which has plenty to offer

Review 54:Where do I start? Was quite nervous staying at lough eske as I thought because it was 5* that it was going to be pretentious. Well i was proved very wrong! Landed in the pouring rain and was met in the carpark by a lovely porter who not only carried our suitcases but gave us a massive umbrella to keep us dry. The room was astounding! Walk in shower, 4 poster bed..pure heaven! The breakfast is an experience in itself it was out of this world.. shout out to stephanie the chef who made the best eggs ever! Also a big shout out to Leanne and Olivia who gave my boyfriend and I the best back massages. Leanne did mine and she was so lovely and helpful, i left feeling like she genuinely cared. Shes a credit to you! Every member of staff we met were so lovely. Was so sad to leave i thoroughly enjoyed my experience and cant wait to go back

Review 55:Nothing at all!!

Review 56:Everything from arrival, from help with luggage to the mannor & communication off the staff and even free umberellas! A 1st class place and will certainally be returning in the future!

Review 57:The only complaint was the bedrooms were too warm in my opinion

Review 58:We liked the whole package, good food, great service and brilliant friendly helpful staff

Review 59:Beautiful, comfortable hotel. My expectations were very high, and were more than exceeded. The staff was welcoming and the amenities (gardens, common spaces, pool, steam room) were fantastic.

Review 60:My daughter didn't get up in time for breakfast and when I asked for toast the girl was not keen on asking kitchen for it I said not to bother but would have expected better customer service at this price of hotel

Review 61:Very good breakfast

Review 62:zilch

Review 63:we drove to Donegal to leave my partners son at the ranafiriste college and decided to book into a local hotel , booking .com highlighted lough Eske castle hotel which we booked And it turned out to be a very worthwhile experience the room was exquisite and the food was excellent and as for the staff they were more than helpful we had one of the best nights sleeps in ages would thoroughly recommend it

Review 64:Had meal in restaurant on first night. Very disappointing. Steak like leather although we requested medium rare. 5 star price but not 5 star quality. The problem was rectified by removal from bill. Waited over an hour to be served. Ate in bar all the other nights. Excellent value and quality.

Review 65:Beautiful room in courtyard. Staff friendly and helpful.

Review 66:We didn't get any of the spa treatments because we didn't book in advance. If you're staying here, I recommend booking before you go, due to the popularity and busy nature of the treatments. We still had full use of the pool, hot tub, sauna etc which were all great.

Review 67:Took my girlfriend for a romantic weekend and everything was great. The staff are so friendly and helpful, as well as being good craic. The food was fantastic and the room was amazing. The spa facilities were great too

Review 68:The castle and grounds are beautiful, the staff friendly and helpful. Great place to stay very grand yet not stuffy and quite relaxing. Food was excellent in the bar and the restaurant. Would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling through Donegal.

Review 69:RAIN AND WIND

Review 70:EVERYTHING, THE GREETING MAN WAS GREAT, FRIENDLY AND DOWN TO EARTH. AFTER A BRISK WALK, HOT CIDER/FIREPLACE/RESTING IN STUDY/LIBRARY

Review 71:Food temperature was a little too low for main course but didn't impact our feelings towards our stay.

Review 72:We liked the Delux Room, Food, Staff and Facilities. We were so relaxed after our stay.

Review 73:Although the room was very clean it did need a spring clean...

Review 74:Whole experience was wonderful. Amazing service and staff. Beautiful grounds and castle. A lovely piece of history to enjoy.

Review 75:Overpriced in times of recession

Review 76:Staff were exceptional helpful . We had a slight problem with a TV , that was communicated so quickly and resolved. Staff s understanding of our guest who had special needs was superb

Review 77:we wanted to eat at the bar but saw what one of the other guests were eating- ireland has the most amazing freshest food! use local!! frozen fries in ireland- tragic!!

Review 78:posh- pleasant

Review 79:Iron didnt work properly and had to call for maid service and took over 2 hours for them to tidy room, which didnt happen till late afternoon

Review 80:Beautiful surroundings, nice staff. Very relaxing.

Review 81:We looked forward to our view from our courtyard room but alas as we were housed in the first room of the block, the only view was of the steps. We were given our room early and then found that four items had not been left for us. Check - it's no fun realising there's no shower gel when you're in the shower. Staff were very pleasant when we pointed these things out. Dinner was good, especially the dessert; having to remind the waitress about the wine was not. Our complaints are mere niggles but we'd looked forward to being spoilt. I guess you have to pay even more for that.

Review 82:The first sight of the castle is magnificent and there are several comfortable sitting rooms to create the feel of a stay in a stately home. The beds are a delight and the bathroom is impressive.

Review 83:Only a small point but the doors of the accommodation stores need soft closures as these bang constantly once the staff start work. We were next door to one and it was very annoying first thing in the morning. No allowance was made when brought to the attention

Review 84:The location is stunning, quiet and just the place to destress from a hectic world.

Review 85:Sink in bathroom was cracked. Mirror in bathroom needed replaced. Cracks on floor but I understand these would be a big job to repair compared to the above 2. Carpet on stairs in the hall way at the courtroom was very dirty.

Review 86:The size of the room was excellent, Facilities in court room were excellent. Spa excellent. Loved the underfloor heating!luxury

Review 87:Nothing bad what so ever!

Review 88:The staff were extremely helpful and nice. Location was stunning and as we travelled with out dog we felt so at home here. An amazing experience that we are eager to repeat it again

Review 89:There was a problem with the air conditioning on our floor, our room was very hot, even with the windows open and a fan on full it was too hot.. I believe this was a technical error with the air con and that the hotel was aware of it before we were allocated the room because when we entered the room the windows were open and a fan was on, when i mentioned it to the receptionist she stated that " with heat it gets hotter the higher you go up"!! I then informed her that it was the air conditioner that was faulty and someone should look at it to save another guest the discomfort. i thought this was poor practice for any hotel nevermind a 5 star hotel. Also whilst the bathroom was gorgeous the tap fittings were loose!

Review 90:The staff where very pleasant and the food for both dinner & breakfast were delicious. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable.

Review 91:I was double charged for things on my card which where already paid for in cash and staff to say the least weren't too friendly when this was pointed out ,defiantly won't be back again because of this

Review 92:Swimming pool and breakfast also comfort of bed

Review 93:Nothing

Review 94:My partner and i went for a few days the nicest place ive ever stayed in the staff wer so friendly and professional the food was fantastic grounds around the place r excellent give this hotel 10/10 will deffo be back.

Review 95:Only down side of the property is that a car is a neccesity due to the location of the hotel

Review 96:Spa facilities and restaurant where fist class and the frendly staff were excellent the room was comfortable and well equiped

Review 97:Not one thing!

Review 98:Eske Castle is beautiful but it's the staff that make it excellent. From the moment we arrived until we waved goodbye, we were treated like VIPs. We loved the restaurant, bar and fitness zone (everything in moderation!) Have rebooked for August

Review 99:Access to the pool is via an external walk through the garden.

Review 100:We found the atmosphere and staff efficient but relaxed and friendly. Would definitely go back.

Review 101:Only tiny quibble, bar food was good but not quite to the standard of the rest of the experience. We were also lucky to have a whole week of glorious weather, it would have been nice to see more outside seating at the bar, room patio s and around the grounds etc.

Review 102:Location, building and the standard of the rooms and gardens!

Review 103:The background music in the bar and restaurant needs looked at.It does not fit with the surroundings.

Review 104:Loved the service and pleasant, very friendly staff. The rooms are very spacious and beds comfortable.Food was fabulous.

Review 105:Food in the restaurant was appalling, and with the seriously hefty pricetag attached I did not want to spend another penny in the hotel after eating there. Service at breakfast was poor with 2 out of 3 mornings having to ask for tea and toast several times and we actually gave up on toast altogether on the first morning.availability of staff to settle bills in the bar was also difficult to come by. power in the rainshower was poor and the hand shower was broken with water spurting out of the tubing. Spa area overall was a bit disappointing, sauna floor was dirty and looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in a couple of weeks. This is a 4 star building with 3 star service and spa facilities charging 5 star prices, I would never stay here again and would actively advise people against staying here, you can get much much more for your money elsewhere in the country.

Review 106:Bar food was good, hotel lounge areas were beautiful, grounds were well kept, free welcome non alcoholic hot cider was a nice touch, bathrooms in bedrooms are very nice. This was an excellent restoration project.

Review 107:Access to hotel from Courtyard Rooms especially in heavy rain. Cold tea spoiled a lovely breakfast. It took four attempts to get it right. Thanks to the very helpful waitress.

Review 108:Friendly staff and comfortable accommodation.

Review 109:The only thing I would say was that the pool / jacuzzi could have been warmer.

Review 110:We loved the friendly relaxed atmosphere. The staff were more than attentive and ensured that we were well looked after. We will definitely return .

Review 111:From the moment we arrived until we left all of the staff were very friendly and did their utmost to ensure that we had a very enjoyable and memorable stay at Lough Eske Castle. The hotel is superb with excellent facilities and located in a very beautiful location. We will most certainly return.

Review 112:Dinner reservation hard to get we could only get2045 and we were not starting our main course untill 2145 far too late

Review 113:The comfort of the room was superb except it was too far from main building

Review 114:Horrible smell in cedars restaurant and the corridor leading to it both smelt like a fish tank really off putting so much so we skipped breakfast it wasn't what they were cooking either that caused the smell as it was same horrid smell the entire stay!...the pool and spa are outside so if it's raining not ideal or for elderly people to walk to.

Review 115:Beautiful hotel bedrooms was amazing very spacious with beautiful bathroom

Review 116:Could use a new chess board with all the pieces. The oak bar was closed which was disappointing as we were hoping to have a few drinks and play pool. Was suprised at the surcharge added to the breakfast order.

Review 117:Friendly an helpful staff, food was great

Review 118:one of the best hotels I ever stayed in. friendly staff, standard deluxe room was enormous, more like a suite. breakfast was incredible good, it even had european and american sockets, something I have never seen in a hotel. it truly deserves 5*

Review 119:No negatives to this hotel.

Review 120:A beautiful hotel with friendly staff providing a warm welcome. delicious food and a very comfortable bed. The Happy Anniversary plate was a lovely token and much appreciated. Snow capped mountains an added bonus!

Review 121:Wifi a bit hit n miss in our room. Lots of walking along very long corridors!

Review 122:Stunning area and hotel, well worth a visit. With so much to see around Donegal it is difficult to make time to enjoy the facilities.

Review 123:The breakfast area is too small for the number of guest so we had to wait for 10 mins each morning or eat in the overflow breakfast area which is really like sitting in a hall way.

Review 124:Hotel is amazing- we enjoyed every moment. We willl be returning. One of my favourites

Review 125:We paid nearly £160 for one night here - room was nice but for this price we expected real luxury. Had to walk in the rain to the spa (it is seperate from the hotel) the pool was murky&smelly so did not enjoy this. Dinner was just ok, breakfast was a compelte rip off - €22 each and it was nothing special at all. Would recommend only for the scenery, not the food or facilities.

Review 126:We stayed here for 1 night in one of the courtyard rooms, the hotel is a beautiful old castle and the scenery is lovely

Review 127:Over crowded, breakfast was difficult no real order. Felt decor was run down in parts for a so called 5 star. I feel I have stayed in better 3 star hotels around the Country.

Review 128:Food beautiful & room nice.

Review 129:Wish I could afford to stay more nights .

Review 130:The setting, the rooms where huge and lovely and warm. Swimming pool was of a good size and the water was warm excellent . The use of the health suite facility's included in the price , a lovely place to stay and relax 5 stars in my view .

Review 131:Very little, but maybe change the menu in the bar for variety. Also, we were unable to open the window in our bedroom but maybe it was just stuck - very minor complaints

Review 132:I found the whole experience excellent. The best part of it was the wonderful staff. We really enjoyed chatting to them. Local people are so friendly and they couldn't do enough for us. They were really helpful. Jimmy who oversaw the bar dining service and the new young receptionist were both terrific but all the staff were wonderful. The facilities were brilliant and the spa is terrific.

Review 133:Lough Eske was amazing, staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the electricity went out when we were there for dinner, this added to the Castle, I really enjoyed my stay here and will definitely be back again!!!

Review 134:Room was not serviced until we rang in the evening, cracked sink in bathroom, broken glass around window sill and a small piece on carpet, first course of meal on Saturday very slow in coming, received an apology.

Review 135:Quiet, polite and friendly staff, excellent food what more do you want

Review 136:How easy it was for others to charge drinks to my room, has to be a better facility where checking of signatures can identify proper billing to signatures :(

Review 137:Great comfy beds, Large open fires in sitting areas comfy and cosy, wonderful level headed staff, friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble. Great with kids and elderly

Review 138:We just got married here, and I cannot tell you how well we were looked after. I cannot find any fault, ALL the staff were wonderful and attentive. Every room was absolutely spectacular. I just cannot say enough. Cleanliness perfect, food amazing, I could go on forever. By far the best hotel we have ever stayed. Cannot wait to return.
