Reviews for Relais Casali della Cisterna
Review 1:Access road was narrow and a little difficult to negotiate. Some railroad noise, but not bad during sleeping hours. Our room was located in the front building away from the tracks, so we were barely aware of, and not bothered by, the passing trains.
Review 2:Scenic view from room, friendly and helpful staff, delicious breakfast, and beautiful grounds . Wonderful meals in nearby town of Stresa.
Review 3:Very close to a noisy railway behind the hotel. Access via a very narrow road
Review 4:Very luxurious with a fantastic view over the lake. Our suite was very nice and comfortable. Excellent breakfast.
Review 5:Friendly and helpful people (Simona in particular).Beautiful location. Wonderful breakfast. 10 minutes away from Stresa. Very clean and confortable room. We'll definitely recommend to our friends.
Review 6:The noise of the passing trains was very loud! After a terrible night's sleep, being woken with a jolt at the sudden blast of a high speed train, we had to move from our 'deluxe double' to a suite, with a kitchen area and pay £30 extra per night. It was the only room available away from the track..
Review 7:The room was clean. The grounds lovely and very nice view of the lake.
Review 8:The narrow and windy path leading to the property. Especially thenarrow, sharp hairpin turn if one drive from the north. Yet we laterfound out that there was in fact another entrance from the southdirection and this way is easier. Train track noise is true but we wereable to adapt to it soon. Could sleep well at nights.
Review 9:Lake and sunrise view room. Antique building and furniture. History ofthe property. Nice garden and outdoor breakfast with gd variety.Delicious scrambled eggs and honey, melon, cured ham..... Host Simonabeing very helpful and gave us useful information regarding the expressjetfoil to Luino from Stresa, as a result we were able to buy the lastminute ticket and catch the ferry to Luino's Wednesday market thenext morning. Very quiet.
Review 10:the hotels location is pretty poor: next to the train, if you want to go to the lago you have to cross the street
Review 11:enjoyed the friendly and absolutely helpful team
Review 12:The hotel is located very close to a train line with trains passing every few hours, even during the night. Not for light sleepers.
Review 13:Great location overlooking the lake with very helpful and friendly owners. The hotel is beautifully furnished and is near Stresa.
Review 14:Impossible to find and trains run behind the hotel often, but everyone gets used to it after twi nights, so plan on staying at least three nights
Review 15:Staff and the classiness of the bedroom and bathroom. The room in the picture was door to ours that did not have a couch. Otherwise it is absolutely first class.
Review 16:It is true that a train track does run alongside the main hotel so if you are a light sleeper this is important to know before you book. However, personally I got used to it and it didn't bother me. If you are unlucky enough to hit a rainy day and you don't have a hire car, you might find getting around a bit more of a challenge, but that said the owners will do their best to get you around and about either by giving you a lift... Or at the very least a brolly!
Review 17:The hosts, the views, the room, the breakfast and the new jacuzzi! Total perfection! The room surpassed my expectations and the hosts are great people and are very welcoming and good fun, and really do understand how to give their guests the best possible experience. Their eye for detail and high standards show throughout every aspect of the hotel. Faultless.
Review 18:The roads are steep and narrow, and there is nothing within walking distance, which made enjoying a drink with dinner out of the question. Some wifi issues, but otherwise, everything was fabulous.
Review 19:Beautiful hotel overlooking Lake Maggiore. Everything was top notch, from the hospitality of the hosts to the luxurious details of the suite. We had a large private balcony, with a large King bed in one room and smaller sofa bed in the lounge room (most comfortable sofa bed I have ever slept on!)
Review 20:Room are al different, some with balcony , some with kitchen, some with view only. Higher floor is sometimes noisy because of train sound passing on top of building. Restaurant recommendation sometimes misleading, the hotel reserved for us in no. 1 in their list at 9:15 and we got the table by 10 with very bad food and service
Review 21:Very large rooms with nice views, great staff and management, very helpful
Review 22:Whilst the location in the hills provides a lovely view, this advantage is cancelled out by the difficulty one encounters in actually getting to the property, as this necessitates driving on a narrow road that is extremely difficult to negotiate. I was driving a rental car and, although it was small, there was always a high risk of damage when trying to negotiate this road and the stress of having to do so made me reluctant to come and go as often as I would have liked.
Review 23:The rooms are very nice indeed and the bathroom is far above average for an Italian hotel.
Review 24:We stayed in the main building, in a suite on the top floor. Very nice until the trains came, the trains are just a couple of meters away and shake the entire building. Had it not been for the trains we would have certainly returned. You also need to have a car to get around.
Review 25:Very familiar and intimate. The staff were excellent and friendly. Good breakfast and the overall standard was good indeed. The private beach was small but nice although the climb down was a bit awkward.
Review 26:Trains behind hotel can be annoying if staying in main house
Review 27:Great hosts, comfortable and big suits. Access to lake with small private beach. Superb gardens.
Review 28:the owners hospitality, guidance and joy to support. we did not suffered from the train noise which is passing behind. suggest to ask for rooms with lake view and you'll get a bonus of sunrise every morning
Review 29:Absolutely loved this relaxed Villa set in beautiful surroundings with views out to the lake. Simona and Alberto gave us such a wonderful welcome and were really great at suggesting restaurants and attractions with up to date info. We stayed in spring and would love to come back to relax on the terrace on a summer evening. Breakfast was terrific. Simona's Mum makes the pancakes - they're superb!
Review 30:Train line is very close, in our room which was in the lower building the noise did not disturb. Although the rooms are very decorated the finish is not that high, some things started to break, door in bathroom did not shut etc.
Review 31:The location is great, just a few minutes’ drive from Stressa. We had a very spacious apartment facing the lake. The decoration of the apartment was very nice with some modern operations and full AC.
Review 32:The quad room very comfortably accommodated our family of 4, including adult children. It was very clean and had a spectacular view of the lake. The hosts, Alberto and his wife Simona, were lovely and went our of their way to be helpful and make recommendations. We liked the quiet location just a few minutes away from Stresa by car and easy walking distance to Belgirate.
Review 33:Our suite was on the top floor of the main building so very close to the train line and the noise was horrendous (note, we lived for many years by a train line so are not overly sensitive to noise). The notes in the hotel room warning that we would be charged for any marks on towels or furniture were a little unfriendly - coasters should be provided on every surface if the management are that worried about marks from cups. The property would really benefit from a pool.
Review 34:Our suite was great - spacious enough for 5 people, although sliding doors would have been good to separate the rooms at night. The wifi was really good thoughtout the property. The grounds are beautiful.
Review 35:We had a fantastic time at Casali della Cisterna. The team are lovely, very welcoming and full of good ideas for day trips, activities and restaurants. Plenty to do in the area for all ages, as long as the weather is nice. Would recommend Villa Taranto and Isola Bella.
Review 36:Perfect location 5 minutes from Stresa. Simona and her husband were very welcoming and helpful in everything . The villa is located in a park with walking trails and waterfalls. Rooms are beautiful, spacious and clean with a breathtaking view of the lake. Breakfast was rich and varied. Highly recommended!
Review 37:There are two roads leading to the hotel. The one closer to Stresa is horrible (VERY narrow, shark corners). The second one is ok. The train is making loud noises in some parts of the hotel.
Review 38:Great view. Great balcony. Beatiful room.
Review 39:Breakfast could have been a little more exciting. A little hard to find if you arrive at night. The train line behind the property is just a minor nuisance, shouldn't put you off.
Review 40:Set in a beautiful, lush and very large garden overlooking the lake, really a magical place. Our room was huge and made of very high quality furniture, with a true lake view. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
Review 41:The rooms in the main building are close to the train tracks, which run regularly both day and night. Bring earplugs or stay in the front building. Note: back building rooms are named for trees, front are named for boats.
Review 42:A perfect location, 5 minutes from the busy tourism of Stresa and it's restaurants. Simona was a perfect host and could not have been kinder or more helpful. Rooms, grounds, breakfast - all worth a return vist.
Review 43:Simona and her husband were extremely welcoming and helpful during our stay. We loved the location and facilities and would definitely come back! A truly wonderful holiday :-)
Review 44:Perhaps not too many points of interest around. But should be fine for at least a week.
Review 45:Spacious and beautiful room, helpful staff, nice scenery. Very reasonable price.
Review 46:The Staff (and they are more like friends) are excellent. Nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast is lovely and the views great too. There was covered parking for our open top car. There is no restaurant, but you can get a cheese or meats board featuring excellent local produce. The wok in Belgirate is about 20 minutes easy stroll and there are some good places to eat. We loved our stay.
Review 47:Need a car if you want to go anywhere.
Review 48:View of the lake and proximity to la stresa is excellent. Junior suite has a lovely balcony and lots of space.
Review 49:Noise from the trains all night
Review 50:Grat lovation on the lake amazing place
Review 51:Thoughtful, proactive staff A room with a view Somewhere to relax
Review 52:The views of the lake, the friendliness of the staff! Stresa is 5 minutes away, the lake is just over the road!
Review 53:That I had to leave
Review 54:The view, you can't beat it.
Review 55:Nothing
Review 56:Excellent place and excellent staff.
Review 57:Busy railway line at rear of hotel
Review 58:The train
Review 59:Excellent Breakfast, friendly host and staff
Review 60:The personal approach off the staff. The rooms, the breakfast, the environment, the kindness of the owners. Everything is very clean.
Review 61:Beautiful lake view and very friendly, helpful staff. Lovely grounds, rooms very spacious with everything you need

Review 69:Train passed near the hotel
Review 70:Lovely place and landscape
Review 71:Great Hostess, Very big room - wonderful for family with children, breakfast was rich & the view is just something else.... Very recomendable
Review 72:No wifi in the room, just outside. Foam in the Bath and the room smelled humid.
Review 73:The view on the lake was wonderful! Also the breakfast!
Review 74:Breakfast View staff
Review 75:Great location with stunning view to the lake, little private beach and beautiful garden... Petfect conditions to relax
Review 76:It is a 10 mins drive to Stresa As the road below is quite busy, not easy to walk to Belgirate
Review 77:Beautiful views Lovely rooms Good breakfast Helpful staff
Review 78:During the daytime at the weekend, there are quite a lot of noisymotorbikes on the road about 50 metres below the hotel - but you can getused to this and it appears to stop in the evening. The train noisewhich other reviewers had mentioned was not an issue for us when we werethere (however we were at the lower house, I.E. furthest from thetrains, which run behind the top part of the hotel).
Review 79:This lakeside experience was unforgettable. We truly loved our stay. The only thing we would have liked was a few more days! I forgot tomention that in the 4 person apartment that we booked that we needed tohave 2 beds. They were kindly able to adapt to this request. Theaccommodation was superbly well appointed; beds firm but comfortable;lake views exceptional. The hosts spoke excellent English and wereextremely friendly: they gave us top tips on where to eat out nearbyand park locally for free, even where to park in Milan for one eurofifty for the day! The breakfast set you up like a King; our hosts werealso able to cater for a gluten-free diet. The hospitality evenextended to being very kindly treated to some birthday cake of thehost's mother on one of our days there! So generous! For this firsttimer to Italy, I am now inspired to try and learn some of the languagefor next time! Grazie mille!
Review 80:If you donnot have a vehicle it is difficult to explore the region as the way to the hotel is steep and difficult to travel by foot or the bikes that they have at the property.
Review 81:the hotel has beautiful views of the lake and is perched on top of a hill. The hosts were very warm, helpful and informative!
Review 82:There are stairs to load or unload your car, and the gravel road leading to this great place is hard to find unless you have better directions
Review 83:The owners were fantastic, the room facilities and view great, and the location very good
Review 84:the train - however all hotels and villages in the area around Lago Maggiore are built between the lake and the train tracks
Review 85:Simone is a great host. Rooms are large, well equipped and nicely decorated - excellent bed.. The grounds are great. Hotel is easy to reach by car but a distance to the nearest train station. Good breakfast.
Review 86:A busy railway runs right behind the villa. The owners tell us therailway company are intending to install a noise deflecting barrier. Itwouldn't stop us returning and we slept ok.
Review 87:Gorgeous spacious well fitted room with a lovely view across the lakefrom in bed! Very friendly family running the hotel. Plenty ofparking. Lovely breakfast. Good location for visiting all the villageson Lake Maguire.
Review 88:A lovely spacious apartment with stunning views across Lake Maggiore. Private balcony. Very welcoming, friendly and helpful host who spoke excellent English.
Review 89:Everything was perfect .
Review 90:Very clean , the best view , excellent freindly run business with the best manager I have ever met . I highly recommend this place and I will definitely return for another holiday. Thank you Simmone ( the lady manager) for giving us such a memorable and relaxing holiday . Hope to see you again . Sara
Review 91:Noisy trains at night
Review 92:Nice location - hidden under sequoias 18 century villa, with amazing views to lake Maggiore. Simona and Alberto were very helpful - our room was upgrated to suite for free and we had great recommendations for restaurants and activities around.
Review 93:Didn't bother us but there is a railway runs at the back. It is a bit of a walk to the nearest restaurants.
Review 94:The suite. Stunning, huge, views from window were just superb. One of the best rooms I have ever booked. The owner was also very helpful and friendly.
Review 95:it was difficult to find the hotel. gps do not Show and there were no sign to Show the way to reach the hotel.
Review 96:room was very good, large with very good view and very good balcony to have the nice maggiore view. reception was very friendly and has given us very useful and interesting advices for the places to be seen in the region.
Review 97:The access road to the hotel is tricky the first time, before you getthe directions from the owners. A railway runs right behind the hotel, however it didn't seem to bother us since everything else in thehotel was so great.
Review 98:The hotel is located in a beautiful Villa. The rooms are gorgeous (westayed at the Suite) and all overlook the beautiful lake. The hotel isrun by a lovely family, which makes all the effort to make your stayjust perfect. We enjoyed our stay and would love to come back!
Review 99:Very nice welcome. Room was very nice, comfortable. Nice furnished. Bathroom very well equipped. Water pressure in the morning for the shower a bit low. We were very well guided to nice restaurants in the neighborhood. A beautiful location, fantastic room, very good breakfast, and a very good host.
Review 100:Noise from railway line when outside was very loud. Beware of this if staying in a Standard room rather than a suite. No restaurant, and have to drive to Stresa, too far to walk.
Review 101:Suite was just beautiful, Very cean and spacious, bathroom massive, and views over the lake from the windows were superb.
Review 102:Too close to the Railroad - NOISY,They did not mention in theiradvertisement! Must enter by driving the wrong way on a one way unpavedalley. Not close to town, must have a car
Review 103:Very Nice Room with Lake View Friendly management.
Review 104:Initially finding the property was difficult as the GPS did not register the road to the property. Best to call for directions.
Review 105:Great view of Lake Maggiore with wonderful grounds. The room was spacious and well appointed and our host Simone was very hospitable and provided excellent advise regarding sight seeing in the area.
Review 106:Train runs behind the property, but we didn't notice it at all during the night, so wasn't an issue.
Review 107:Beautiful facilities, spotlessly clean, great views of Lake Maggiore from the room, large marble bathroom. Excellent service and free parking.
Review 108:Because of the high expectations the reality upon arrival is a bit of a let down. The beds are enormous but very hard, the bath is also extra large but not practical for a quick shower. The towels and bathrobes are of a low standard quality and seem to be made for the chinese market since the robes are very small even though the label says XXXL. Wifi was not (yet) available in the rooms and the heating was turned off after our first day. Restaurants are only reached by car since a walk to Stresa is quite dangerous via the main road - at night at least.
Review 109:This newly opened hotel looks beautiful on the pictures and there seem to be lots of wonderful extra's - large garden, full frontal lake view and charming hosts.
Review 110:A bigger sign is needed on the road.
Review 111:Fabulous hosts Simone and Alberto could not do enough to make us comfortable and provide information and recommendations. our room was the smallest of the 12 in the hotel but it was enormous. The breakfasts were wonderful and Simone was ready to provide anything else guests requested. With her mother and children also evident, it was like being part of a welcoming Italian family
Review 112:There is a railway just behind the hotel. But the trains did not disturb. I am a very light sleeper but the noice was no trouble at all.
Review 113:The servicelevel is outstanding ! Very clean and nice hotel. Very good buffet breakfast, with fresh homemade croissaints every morning. Eggs on demand. different fruits, sandwiches..Comfortable beds.Good English and very efficient and serviceminded staff.
Review 114:Our GPS located the hotel but access is via another road which the GPS did not register. Signage on the main road would alleviate this problem.
Review 115:The warmth and hospitality of our host combined with the beautiful location and facilities.
Review 116:Not easy to find - but demand for placing signposts have been put forward to local authorities.
Review 117:A lovely young couple which go out of their way to make you feel welcome. A recently and tastefully redecorated hotel with very comfortable rooms and bathrooms and an excellent breakfast buffet. Very recommendable!
