Reviews for Mánagisting Guesthouse
Review 1:Rooms are a little small, but more than met expectations given the affordable price.
Review 2:Good location, great staff, very clean and well-maintained property.
Review 3:Walls are super thin. We heard everything.
Review 4:Really nice employee who checked us in. He was flexible with checking in and out. The place is really clean and comfortable and the bathrooms were a nice size.
Review 5:Was an older building so a bit drafty. And the cleanliness especially in the bathroom was awful.
Review 6:It was in a great location in the west fjords. It was a nice big open room.
Review 7:Room was a little small for two large suitcases and the shower was also small. But for the price and location, it was very good.
Review 8:We didn't use it much but the kitchen was very nice. It had all the appliances you need. Beds were comfy. Great location in town. Walked a minute to the water to watch the northern lights (a bit of light pollution though).
Review 9:Everything seems a little run down on the first floor. The dorm rooms remind me of a big old orphanage or hospital. Someone mentioned earlier and they were right - there is a very bright exit sign inside the dorm room that almost lights up the room like a small lamp all throughout the night which isn't great if you need darkness to sleep. Perhaps I was there on a bit of a lull of a night but there wasn't great atmposphere. Staff only quickly came out and helped and then I hardly saw anyone else. It was like a really old hotel rather than a hostel.
Review 10:The lounge and kitchen seem much nicer on the bottom floor than on the first floor. The kitchens have what you need and there are a few lounge room armchair set ups to hang about and work. Good location.
Review 11:Our room was a little below ground level but we still had big windows so plenty of light but, because it was at the front of the property, we kept the blinds down for privacy which made it a bit cellar-like. I think all the newly-furbished rooms are on the lower floor from previous reviews but I would go here again, though, because everything else made up for that.
Review 12:Clean and very well-equipped modern kitchen and bathroom. Proprietor was very nice and refunded our final night when we decided to leave Isafjordur a day early. Clean, comfy bed and room. Bedding and towels included. Good location.
Review 13:The dorm is very big (like a hall or something) with about 10-12 beds. The exit sign is soooo bright that you can't sleep. The kitchen towel was so ripped/dirty that it was almost impossible to dry any dishes with it. The wifi works poorly in the rear of the dorm. Some people that live there are pretty rude. Good for a quick cheap sleep.
Review 14:The location.
Review 15:The building, and common areas are old and in need of renovation (some, like the bathrooms, already have been.) The kitchen upstairs was run down and filthy, but the downstairs was kitchen was nice and clean. Overall, place was a bit sketchy, but it worked out fine.
Review 16:The room itself was neat, clean, and modern.
Review 17:Very friendly and helpful owner, location in the town centre, close to shops, cafes, restaurants and harbour. We were staying in a double room which is really cosy and has nice overview of nearby cliffs
Review 18:Rain leaked onto my bed in shared room. Kitchen floor and dishtowels perrenially too dirty on 1st floor, although clean as a whistle on 3rd.
Review 19:Every floor is different. I spent a couple weeks in shared room- 12 beds. Everyone quiet respectful while also very friendly. One week on 3rd floor- all clean, great view, updated facilities.
Review 20:Lots of young people stay here so some floors could be noisy. Close to restaurant with live weekend music.
Review 21:Very helpful manager gave us good advice on hikes and restaurants. Allowed us to do our wash.
Review 22:Small room and the kitchen/TV room/ access to one bathroom, not enough place for all the guests
Review 23:A real guesthouse with the landlord living there and he let us use the washing machine
Review 24:Very bad internet connection. Room is way too small for a double room. One bathroom for too many guests. Not recommended.
Review 25:Price was decent however lacked in other facilities.
Review 26:Staff rather gruff and unfriendly. Bathroom could do with a clean. Struggled to get a wifi connection.
Review 27:Bed was comfortable and bedding clean. Close to centre of things in town.
Review 28:Dormitory room was for 10 people and there were no pictures of it on the website: it would have been nice to know what to expect!
Review 29:Good location, good shower and lovely staff.
Review 30:Dirty, surface clean in kitchen and bathrooms only Run down (paint and wallpaper peeling, loose wires) Cooker a bit dodgy in the kitchen (not all rings on hob work). Cold (heated poorly) Not really a travellers hostel, set up for long termers creating a weird us and them attitude Wifi intermittent at night Noisy large weird dorm room Inadequate kitchen, toilet and bathroom facilities for numbers of people Few available sockets for charging phones etc
Review 31:Location Inexpensive Free wifi Can pay by credit card Can meet some lovely folks studying Icelandic at Univ of West Fjords, many of whom stay here
Review 32:Wifi connection failed a bit. The number of bathrooms is not enough for the number of rooms The behaviour of person at the reception could be improved, he was a bit unwelcoming
Review 33:Fair room. Good price compared to other guesthouses
Review 34:Kids stayed in hostel which was shabby, construction materials in the hallways, door didn't work.
Review 35:Renovated private room on below ground was very nice.
Review 36:The owner overcharged me, and then was not super friendly when I pointed out the mistake to him. He did refund the overcharge, but then also tried to move me to a smaller basement room rather than the nice 3rd floor room he'd already given me. There aren't a lot of options in Isafjurdor, so they're able to charge quite a lot for not much...
Review 37:The room itself was clean and comfortable. Bathroom not so much....
Review 38:Given the many great reviews this place has my experience might be a one off, but when the owner asked if I had my own sleeping bag, I had a feeling this wasn't what I was looking for. He put me in a back room that felt like a hospital ward from 100 years ago. The kitchen seemed like a good idea but the combination of aromas was not pleasant at all.
Review 39:There was a bundle of hair wrapped up in my towel, the bathroom obviously had not been cleaned, the beds were very uncomfortable and the whole place smelled of cigarette smoke
Review 40:Great location
Review 41:Kitchen dirty. Couldn't find a bin or toilet roll. No blind to darken the room at night.
Review 42:Warm, convenient location. No bunk beds, so no top bunks (I don't like top bunks). Was good for my purposes.
Review 43:I only got 1 hot shower here and I stayed 2 nights. 1 was lukewarm and the others were freezing. Not something I would usually write a bad review about but when the location is not far from the arctic circle it becomes an issue.
Review 44:Comfortable clean room in central location
Review 45:A little careworn from the outside and a bit neo-Stalinist in outlook. The top floor was along way to go with luggage and no lift
Review 46:Really good room and a really good common room. Warm and comfortable.
Review 47:Rude staff. Was not offered any information about the town or a way to contact if issues. Wifi did not work, but did not know who to contact to resolve. Bathrooms and dorm room were not clean. I've stayed in hostels all around Europe, and this was the worst one I've stayed in. Recommend spending more money and going for another guesthouse in town.
Review 48:Hot water disappeared in every few minutes in the shower. WiFi access was awful, we were unable to connect neither in our room, nor in public areas (kitchen, corridor).
Review 49:Very steep stairs, difficult to carry luggage up to the top floor
Review 50:We stayed in the studio apartment and it was very well kitted out. Nice being in centre of town
Review 51:Far too few washrooms for number of units. Small and uncomfortable rooms with old springy beds. Cleanliness was also an issue.
Review 52:Great location and good bones to the building. Nice views from third floor apartment.
Review 53:We're really thinking that the owners didn't change the linen of our beds and never clean our room and the share bathroom during our stay. It was dirty (hair and scrap of nails on the linen of our bed). Bad smell in the room and the corridor. It was dirty and dusty.
Review 54:Nothing.
Review 55:This place looked like a building with bad infrastructure. Basically a room of musty bunks, water leaking from the ceiling when it rained, could hear yelling from the family living downstairs, one bathroom for everyone in the building and it wasn't clean. I'd probably rather sleep in my car than stay here again. No reception desk or staff available to help.
Review 56:The location was good.
Review 57:The town is tiny and very walkable, but the hostel is near great food options and close to everything. We had a private room with shared bathroom and loved our stay. Our wireless was spotty at times but overall pretty reliable. The kitchen and bathroom were clean and our room was comfortable. We had a great view of the bay. We'd stay here again!
Review 58:The room was ok, has all you need. Kitchen is with good equipment, could be a bit more seats and tables. Bathroom was clean. Could be one more for so many rooms.
Review 59:The bed wasn't great, just ok.
Review 60:I stayed in an efficiency apartment and it was great to have a refrigerator and private bathroom. The concierge was very helpful and carried my very heavy bag to the top floor for me.
Review 61:Room was quite small.
Review 62:The location was prime for us. It was near the center of town, one block from a good, reasonably-priced restaurant, quiet, very accessible bathroom and kitchen, felt safe and secure.
Review 63:Very small room in the basement (people could look through the window down into our room), therefore not as cosy as the other Icelandic accommodations; no breakfast; bicycles are free to use but are in a bad condition (old and rusty)
Review 64:In the centre of Isajfördur, use of kitchen, use of bicycles
Review 65:Very thin walls
Review 66:The guest rooms, kitchen and bathroom are all redone and very nice. Location is right downtown, check out the bar/bistro/coffeeshop around he corner.
Review 67:Stairway looked poorly and gave a wrong impression of the rest. Would be worth renovating!
Review 68:Our host was very kind to offer us coffee after a long drive, not one cup but enough coffee for our stay.
Review 69:Small and cramped room. We were given a room in the basement and had to keep the blinds shut all the time
Review 70:Toilet was clean. Cooking facilities available. Good heating in room. Parking outside the apartment.
Review 71:I don't suggest driving up the west side of the Westfjords in November in the dark. It might be ok in summer when it's light out, but driving 5 hours on a gravel road over crazy mountains in a tiny rental car in the snow and darkness was terrifying! Beautiful! But terrifying. I would stick to the main road if there is snow on the ground.
Review 72:We stayed two nights in November. Really cute old building, the rooms were nice, staff was friendly, and the kitchen facilities were wonderful. It's in a great location for walking around downtown Isafjordur, there are several cafes and bakeries within a few short blocks, and a small grocery store as well.
Review 73:There were a lot of noise from the roof. We can here what the guy's doing over our room, walking and moving something, especially at late night. We stayed there for three days and that was really annoying.
Review 74:Everything's good!
Review 75:Besides it's location -which is amazing- the guesthouse has basic but very clean facilities, is easy to find and has everything on the kitchen to cook a proper dinner.
Review 76:Brand new, high quality facilities, decent IKEA furniture, assembled and placed like a pro :) Really really good kitchen, great shared bathroom! Its in the center of the city (of 3 streets) very Friendly staff. Really, everything was perfect!
Review 77:There is nothing specific to complain. Everything was very good.
Review 78:The floor, where my room was, was brand new or recently totally renovated. The room was big enough and clean. The shared kitchen had all the facilities. The owner was friendly and helpfull. In a very good point and all these with a very reasonable price.
Review 79:WiFi difficult to get on to
Review 80:Fantastic new kitchen, bathrooms and renovated bedrooms. Can park on the street very close to the guesthouse Friendly staff - we phoned ahead to say we would be late and they stayed up for us.
Review 81:Kitchen smells from cooking whatever dish.
Review 82:Room was clean. Facility was very clean. Enough bathrooms for the amount of rooms per floor. Good location. Close to everything except grocery store. Had bicycles for our use.
Review 83:small room; in order to reach the bathroom you need to get through the kitchen
Review 84:although the building is old, basement, in which rooms are located, was newly renovated.
Review 85:Poor bathroom capacity. Toilet was in bathroom. People who stays there do not keep bathroom clean.
Review 86:Good location nearby city center. Nice kitchen. Good beds.
Review 87:Everything here was good.
Review 88:The location was perfect, half-way between the fabulous library and the Heritage museum. Clean, Seemed to be newly renovated. Very nice kitchen. Host was friendly and helpful. Beds comfortable. A very nice place to stay.
Review 89:The kitchen facilities left something to be desired even for a guest house. It would have been nice to have some updated pots/pans etc. Not a big deal if you aren't cooking. Also the bathrooms were a bit challenging when the rooms were full.
Review 90:Comfortable rooms, free wifi, great location in the middle of town.
Review 91:Only the upper floor is available at the moment. The others floors are under renovation. Since the only toilet of the floor is located in the bathroom, it would be good to have an extra separate toilet.
Review 92:Central location in Isafjordur (but most ho(s)tels probabily are :)) Well equiped kitchen. Good beds with sheets (not common for a hostel). Nice base to go on adventure in the west fjords.
Review 93:Wifi was very intermittent and couldn't access in our room
Review 94:Bathroom - clean and hairdryer provided Kitchen - clean and well equipped Room - modern and clean Good location in town centre
Review 95:Room clean with comfortable bed, communal kitchen with excellent facilities. Shared bathroom clean. Free laundry facilities. Location central, I found the reception helpful
Review 96:The stairs are a bit uncomfortable if you have a large luggage.
Review 97:Our room was small but nice, we had a sea view. The kitchen and shared bathroom are clean, the kitchen have all confort there is also a dishwasher. There is wifi in the room. The owner was very helpful.
Review 98:The room was at the top of three step flights of stairs. We had a car, so we left our luggage in the car and only brought up what we needed for a one night stay. The stairway was dingy. There isn't really any staff only what seemed like a landlord that you checked in with.
Review 99:Our room was comfortable with a small kitchen area and a small bathroom. Everything was very clean. The price was good for Iceland but you get what you pay for.
Review 100:This is a good value place to stay and is well located close to the centre of town, but doesn't have any atmosphere to speak of.
Review 101:The rooms, bathroom and kitchen downstairs are recently renovated, clean and functional, and there is access to a washing machine and drying room - very useful after hiking in the area!
Review 102:Lukewarm welcome from the manager. Big barracks of a building, surrounded by scaffolding - very anonymous feel. Several flights up to the floor where the room was, with very steep steps - difficult with luggage, and might be a deal-breaker for some. Smallish, basic room, and limited shared bathroom facilities - single bathroom for many rooms.
Review 103:Good central location. Had a double room with a comfortable bed, clean, and with an unexpectedly nice view. New-ish kitchen and pleasant communal living area. Easy parking. Reasonable price.
Review 104:Noise from bar kept me up even with window closed. Hot water ran out before I could shower. Squeaky bed. My cleanliness standards are pretty low, but the hallway smelled strong like fermented turds floating in pine-sol.
Review 105:Good location (except noise issue with adjacent bar) and price. Comfortable kitchen area.
Review 106:There was no hot water for the shower. Noise can be an issue on the weekend with partygoers from the nearby cafe/bar. Wifi connection was poor. Blankets are provided but sheets are not.
Review 107:Room was very clean and bed was comfortable. There is good security. Small kitchen is available for use. Excellent location.
Review 108:Temporarily, the outside house is under construction, but this isn't much of a problem. It's not a traditional guesthouse in that it's part hostel, part student dorm, and part tourist guesthouse. But the combo is quite informal and lively, so not really a negative.
Review 109:The owner, Kristinn, couldn't have been more accommodating. If you're traveling on a budget, this is a great alternative to expensive hotels. Bed was comfortable, good privacy, use of kitchen, modern bathrooms, and plenty of opportunity to socialize with other guests and meet new people. I would stay here again and recommend it.
Review 110:Excellent facilities for the price paid.
Review 111:Nice cozy place to stay. Great kitchen and bathroom facilities, clean. Staff were friendly and helpful
Review 112:The room, the cleanliness
Review 113:The location, the price
Review 114:The shared kitchen is a bit small. Not that cheap at all...
Review 115:good kitchen.
Review 116:Rooms very small, staircase very steep and dangerous
Review 117:Bed was comfortable
Review 118:Close to the centre. Fully equipped kitchen.
Review 119:The quiet
Review 120:Really old and messy the building, jokes along the walls, bathroom dirty, dormitory dirty and dusty
Review 121:Wifi is the only good thing
Review 122:A great location from where to discover Isafjordur.
Review 123:Noise from a creaky floor above which kept us awake.
Review 124:location and amenities. Free washing machines.
Review 125:In spite of late night, owner was very very nice. Man staff was samely helpful, diligent & sincere. Both of them, clear English. Thank you.
Review 126:Old furnitures, kitchen and bathroom not very clean
Review 127:Location, in the centre of city
Review 128:Big room.Comfortable beds.
Review 129:Centrally located, very clean with helpful staff.
Review 130:The landorld was very helpful.
