Reviews for Villa Scapone

Review 1:End of season feel with restaurant closed in the evening, hot tubs emptied and Sky tv disconnected.

Review 2:Terrific setting with great sea views from our balcony. Helpful and friendly receptionists and driver.

Review 3:From the reports we realize that some rooms are not good so we reserve a junior suite we recreived room number 13 room size was ok but the bed was placed in a small alcove so you cannot pass to the other side the terrace was big and facing the sea but the restaurant chimney was blocking the view with noise and smell we got back to the room to find out the Aircondition is not working After lengthy discussion when we where told the hotel is fully booked We got for one night the Honeymoon suite and the next day we moved to a normal J..S

Review 4:נוף מדהים

Review 5:End of season feel. Restaurant had been closed, no bar etc so no atmosphere

Review 6:The view is stunning but accept it is miles from anywhere along twisty roads. Pool lovely but guess in the peak season would be overcrowded.

Review 7:The view

Review 8:The hotel was at half staff as their season was over. The kitchen was closed, the health facility was being renovated, half the parking was roped off making it difficult to park and the first room we were given was awful.

Review 9:Do not be fooled by the pictures: we were very disappointed to find the place in a poor state of repair, and equally disappointed by the room, it did not feel "superior" at all, the furniture was cheap and in questionable taste - all of this was no match for the high price they charged. The staff was unresponsive to our requests, WIFI did not work and they made no effort at all to fix it (as noted in reviews by other customers), for example simple standard drinks could not be prepared although they had all the ingredients ready, there was no food and drinks served at the pool (contrary to what was advertised), we were made to feel guilty when we showed up for dinner without having made a reservation on our first day(when we could not know that a reservation was required). On our trip across Puglia this was our worst experience, we left after only half of our booked stay. We cannot recommend this place at all.

Review 10:the place has a fabulous view of the sea and the landscape

Review 11:End of season feel, with restaurant closed, room fridge warm, hot tubs and Sky Tv disconnected , canoes by bathing platform stowed for winter etc. yet no discounts offered. Pity as this is close to paradise for an Italian break.

Review 12:Resort has much to offer in terms of facilities and location. Also the rooms are well equipped and ours had a balcony overlooking the bay. Reception staff friendly and helpful.

Review 13:-if you want to go outside hotel you should have a car or ask staff for transfer, there is no bus stop -it would be very nice if hotel would have more attractions like tennis, ping-pong, billiard etc.

Review 14:-amazing view -helpfull staf -transfer offer from train station or bus stop -it is possible to use canoes for free

Review 15:None of our devices worked on the wifi, but who cares in such a remote and beautiful place?

Review 16:Amazing location, charming staff. Peace, calm, glorious nature.

Review 17:Amazing location on the white cliffs, excellent for a retreat for two for a couple of days. Restaurant is excellent! if you like swimming into the sea, you will be surprisingly surprised by the marinara areas charms (small hidden beaches and archeas)

Review 18:Facilities are great and location spectaculair but our room was a bit dated with old furniture and a little cramped. But as you spend all your time outside here it's not really important :-)

Review 19:Beautiful location, restaurant carved out in the rocks, good food. Nice swimmingpool

Review 20:No fridge (was but not working) No AC (was but not working) No Wi-fi (was but not working)

Review 21:Location and the view are very nice, although there is no beach. Staff very nice, however when we asked for their help (see above)... they say yes and did nothing...

Review 22:Our room was a little outdated. But it was comfortable.

Review 23:This hotel is located in a beautiful location..right in the heart of Gargano. It's placed on a cliff overlooking the sea and you can swim or take a canoe to explore the area better. Lovely swimming pool with sunbeds placed on the rocks. Great value for money!

Review 24:The fact we couldn't stay longer!!

Review 25:Staff were fantastic, they couldn't do enough for you. Food was incredible, you could watch the pasta being made fresh every morning. Position is amazing, steps down to an isolated cove where you can snorkel, canoe, swim or just take in the incredible view. Pool and hydro pool absolutely spotless and again, amazing views.

Review 26:Not bad but not perfect wifi connection-only able to use in main resort- not room

Review 27:Fiorina, Valentina, Marina and Mimo were outstanding staff! View from our balcony, many places to sit and enjoy view in comfort, walking down to sea, and much more.

Review 28:Great room with hot tub on the terrace. Magnificent views of the coastal cliffs. Dinners were a treat all three nights of our stay. Staff friendly and helpful. Arriving late for breakfast means very few choices. WiFi connection spotty.

Review 29:Bed quite hard and I didn't like the bed linen . A few things were wrong with the room, there was a fab hot tub on the balcony but we never got the water warm. Missing hair dryer in the room and fridge not working, details really but just a few things that need attention.

Review 30:we loved the dramatic location with views of the White cliffs and sparkling Adriatic Sea. The rooms are a little tired and shabby but clean . The staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is a bit average but the view makes up for it. Nice pool area with sun loungers .

Review 31:The reception host (Valentina) spoke excellent English and was extremely helpful in many ways. She even helped us when we were delayed by a day due to flight cancellations and booking.com would not allow us to change. The hotel was in the early season but that also meant it was very quiet and pristine. The view is spectacular. Loved it!

Review 32:Outdated decoration overall. Bedroom, one of the best in house was extremely dated, badly designed and furnished with worn bed linen. No extra pillows or blankets. The wonderful views to the sea where a large picture window and balcony should have been were oblitorated by an extremely badly located bathroom. Breakfast choices were limited and consisted of basic low priced ingredients offered on a self serve buffet.

Review 33:Location was wonderful and views from terraces fabulous. Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Receptionist very helpful. Good wine list and good recommendations on wine choices. Professional bar/wait service. Sea bass baked in salt was a highlight on the dinner menu. Good coffee.

Review 34:The restaurant: great sea view and committed staff, but the dinner was a bit disappoining for the price.

Review 35:Staff very committed and helpful, great sea view from the room and the balcony.

Review 36:The rooms and the territory desperately needs a facelift. There seems to be some work in progress but not enough. On the ceiling there was a shoeprint with a squashed mosquito mixed in. The bed covers were a bit tacky and the minibar had 2 bottles of water in it that were warm because the cooler was off. This is not a hotel for the elderly or infirm as it is all up and down. The stairs to the pool and the further to the sea were in bad shape. Like I said...a facelift and this could be a super place for a romantic stay.

Review 37:The scenery was super. The restaraunt was in a fabulous position overlooking the bay. The food was very good as well as the service. Our terrace had a jacuzzi and was quite private overlooking the bay. Very scenic and romantic...

Review 38:we booked a suite with terrace. got a two bedroomed family room. very dark and uncomfortable. the terrace was across a public pathway the sunbeds were scruffy and torn . our room was without electricity all night and morning of the day we were leaving we had no apologies .

Review 39:the view.

Review 40:Far from any town. Without car it is not possible to go out for dinner.

Review 41:Excellent location with stunning views! On the cliff. Tasty dinner. Good breakfast. Luxury, clean, quit room. Class service.

Review 42:Little to disappoint. There was no direct access to sea swimming although there were some super beaches a short drive away. Should have taken a spray for the mosquitos.

Review 43:Clean comfortable room. Large balcony with sun loungers, table, chairs and hammock. Twin basins and jacuzzi bath in bathroom Friendly and very helpful staff. The covered grotto like terrace for outdoor evening dining. Very good menu and all dishes well presented and served. Free use of computer and wi-fi in the lounge.

Review 44:Not really 'tegengevallen' but don't go there if you're thinking of a nice walk of 5, 10 or 15 km.

Review 45:A lovely appartment, a terrace with your own jacuzzi; nice people; good kitchen

Review 46:Liked everything.

Review 47:Very peaceful setting and lovely views of the coastline. We enjoyed an evening meal and breakfast in the part of the restaurant that had a cliff on one side and views down to the sea on the other. The service was excellent.

Review 48:the room is clean but isn't that fancy, the bed is very basic, the hot tub isn't hot.

Review 49:amazing view, very romantic spots in the resort, good breakfast,

Review 50:Hotel is set into the cliff and quite steep climbing between rooms and reception/dining area

Review 51:Location with fabulous views over the sea and coast Staff attention superb Rooms simple but adequate Lovely swimming pool and surround Access to beach (with a climb!)

Review 52:Maybe too quiet. Sometimes it needs some music or entertainment.

Review 53:Great location, stunning view. Fantastic access to tiny beach. Iacuzzi included in room. Wonderful food at restaurant.

Review 54:over all it could do with a fresh coat of paint - particularly the balcony we had.

Review 55:The hotel had a beautiful setting and the restaurant served good food. We were blighted with awful weather so couldn't really make the most of the pool, sea beach or kayaks but could see that it would be a great place to stay if the weather was better. We had no issues with finding it. The receptionists were very helpful and kind to us.

Review 56:I initially booked one of the two best rooms - a Junior Suite for two and later asked for an extra room for my daughter. We were told that there was a 'beautiful' family suite available with two bedrooms so we agreed to accept this. When we arrived our accomodation was in a separate block away from the hotel. The suite was apalling -scruffy, very poorly furnished, and dingy. Our small front window looked out on to a rendered wall over which one could just about see out to sea when standing. This 'suite' cost us 259 euro's for one night and would have struggled to achieve a1 star rating in the UK. We complained but were told that the only alternative was a single rear facing room in the main hotel with extra bed, hardly ideal with a 24 year old daughter. It was already 5.30pm so we stayed the night and cancelled the second night. At breakfast, the hotel had a lady in period costume making pasta by hand just by the breakfast area. Very impressive until we went to choose breakfast. There was a basket of bread which included the thin, dry white sliced bread that can only be toasted and half a dozen rolls which were rock hard and appeared to be three days old. In Italy of all places, where the basket of bread given at the start of each meal out is almost always a treat, this is just pathetic. It seems to me that the managementof this hotel believes that they have such a good location that visitors will put up with anything just to get the fanatastic views. They are wrong.

Review 57:The location of this hotel is fabulous - stunning views.

Review 58:GPS had a hard time finding the place. Have to go through the town of Mattinata and eventually you'll see signs.

Review 59:The view at Villa Scapone was so gorgeous! The staff was so friendly and so kind. Food was fantastic. We stayed in the suite and it had a sauna, steam bath, huge tub built into the rock wall of our room. Just phenomenal. We took the kayaks our and the water and things to explore were really wonderful.

Review 60:The friendliness and helpfulness if all the staff. Our large balcony with the double hammock ,sunbeds table and chairs and sea views. The sea vies from the dining area The steepness of the site is a disadvantage for the less mobile but staff were at hand to take us up and down in golf buggies.

Review 61:Only slight issue is that it is isolated location and a drive to nearest town - but appreciate this could be an advantage for others.

Review 62:Amazing location - particularly liked the various places where you could sit or lie out under the sun and take in the views in peace.

Review 63:Restaurant for dinner was close

Review 64:kitchen was closed, fridge was not working, elevator was out of order

Review 65:location, view

Review 66:dinner could be improved

Review 67:location in marvellous landscape, view, comfort

Review 68:WiFi didn't work well.

Review 69:The property is truly world class. The people are friendly and helpful.

Review 70:Very narrow bathroom. Not proper pillows. Difficult road access.

Review 71:Swimming pool. Free kayak use. Sea vista. Breakfasts and waiting staff.

Review 72:Hotel furniture is dated. Staff a bit un attentive.

Review 73:Location and room terrace where fantastic

Review 74:Very helpful and friendly staff both in hotel and restaurant! Beautiful scenic views on the Adriatic with free use of canoes to go to sandy beaches.

Review 75:We were not very impressed with the restaurant

Review 76:The location and the view

Review 77:Stunning location on a cliff.

Review 78:Cuisine de qualité mais carte un peu"juste"

Review 79:Position; la structure; l'equipement.

Review 80:There was nothing to dislike

Review 81:Splendid setting away from it all where we were able to relax with comfort, good food, and an attentive hotel staff.

Review 82:One dinner was excellent, the other rather mediocre. The breakfast croissant was not fresh. Food should be more balanced and even quality.

Review 83:The beds were not comfortable and the plaster kept falling from the ceiling leaving a light dust everywhere.

Review 84:Loved the restaurant, pool, and views.

Review 85:Nino the server was amazing! The room, view, breakfast all well worth the money.

Review 86:everything

Review 87:steps

Review 88:view accomodation staff

Review 89:Location is beter than the North. Staff is very frienly.good restaurant. Fantastic view from the room.

Review 90:nothing

Review 91:views pool restaurant friendly helpful staff

Review 92:The quality of the ala carte dinner (very expensive and not so tasty)

Review 93:The location, the view, breakfast, the entire hotel

Review 94:It was nearly perfect. Wonderful.

Review 95:A very romantic spot with breath taking views. Great pools with stunning views. Wonderful dinner and a full complete breakfast with local made pastry and fresh local mozzerella cheese! We fully enjoyed the helpful friendly English speaking staff. They graciously upgraded our room for easier access because my wife does not like to do multiple staircases. The jaccuzzi bath tub was great. We have been to Italy 7 times and this was our first visit to the Gargano - it was well worth it and would come back to this tremendous area and to Villa Scapone. It exceeded our expectations!

Review 96:Nothing to complain

Review 97:This is a great hide away ! The best place we have stayed in apulia. Wonderful quiet with awesome seaview. Romantic outside places to eat. Just wunderful, woul have stayed forever.........

Review 98:The whole style of the hotel is a bit outdated, it can use a little update, for example the dining room inside and the road sign on the roof of the hotel. The jacuzzi partially looked upon an ugly airconditioning system.

Review 99:Great location with seaview, nice room with private terrace and jacuzzi! The food in the restaurant is good, the staff helpfull. Nice alcoves with sunbeds near the swimming pool and the path towards the sea.

Review 100:we booked and paid for a room with a terrace and hot tub. when we arrived the hot tub was empty and was not ready for use during our visit. Very disappointing.

Review 101:There was not access to the sea at the time. The ladder was broken. Had to go to the nearby beach for swimming. We are not fans of swimming pool. The good part of it though - we found good place to eat. Also there were mosquitos in the bungalow, but it can be fixed by repellent.

Review 102:Beautiful Hotel, astonishing view. Excellent breakfast. Very good service. Very nice staff. Parking. Private bungalows!

Review 103:wifi did not work well. Cellphone connection in the area is a problem

Review 104:Staff all spoke English well. Knowledgeable of area. helpful etc. Everything ws perfect. However perfect plus was the manager/owner Antonio who was there 24/7, no question or problem or inquiry to great. we felt extremely at home and will definitely return

Review 105:Some infrastructure are aging and would need (soon) some investments to keep this place so attractive !

Review 106:The place is fantastic, surrounding the sea. All facilities provided. Excellent restaurant and wines with outstanding (traditional) services. Will definitely go back once !

Review 107:Breakfast is poor given the standard of the rest of the food. Bread seems to be sliced early in the day and goes stale in the heat! But if you ask fresh bread can appear.

Review 108:Villa Scapone is a great place to stay for a few days relaxing. We had a superior room which was lovely and big with a large balcony. All very comfortable. Nice pool - big by hotel standards - somehow perched on the steep cliff, so lovely views along the coast and out to see. Pool bar for drinks and lunch. Beautiful light white and glass dining room for a windy or wet night when the terrace is closed. Food at lunchtime and in the evening excellent, and good value. The hotel is on it's own - so no alternative bar/restaurants unless you want to drive. It is in the area of Mattinata but several miles outside the town/village of Mattinata. Beautiful coastline, backed my mountains, and the windy roads to go with them.

Review 109:We did not get the room spec we had booked, was told booking .com getdiscription wrong , flies alover breakfast area room was in middle ofmake over would not stay again

Review 110:Dinner was good

Review 111:Only sheets, no duvets on bed. WIFI was almost non-existent. This is all on the side of an incredibly steep hill - steps everywhere.

Review 112:The views were nice, the terrace was big.

Review 113:Rooms are a little outdated, although this is reflected in the price. Spa was closed during our visit.

Review 114:Absolutely stunning setting with wonderful views. Very peaceful. Good food. Good value.

Review 115:I had to carry 2 x 23 kilo cases up 8 flights of stairs. There isn't a lift and no one helped when we asked. I realise the hotel doesn't have porters but I wonder how someone older/ disabled would have managed. The receptionist seemed to think that it was our problem not theirs. Our bathroom was very nicely done overall but appeared to be half way through an upgrade. The existing stone ledge had been angle grinded off damaging the tiles and not replaced. There was black mould on some of the unprotected surfaces on the wall of the shower. There is no direct access to a beach. There is a swimming platform but the water is circa 10 m deep. You can get to a lovely unspoilt beach a few hundred metres away but only if you pay to hire a canoe and are confidant enough to do that. The pool is nice though.

Review 116:Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was lovely and very spacious, more like a suite. It was a beautiful location with a great view from the large balcony. The food generally was very good and the breakfast offered a very wide choice.

Review 117:morning receptionist - unavailable until 8:30 and then very non-service oriented; paid for a room with a great view, but the view from our room was blocked by trees and needed updating. no english tv stations - when requested, they said they would adjust our tv, but they did not.

Review 118:location and views; breakfast

Review 119:We had a room straight above a machine which during a couple of hours per day made an loud sound.

Review 120:Spottless on all points, the setting is wonderful, the staff is friendly and helpful. Can truly recommend it.

Review 121:Breakfast is "only" OK, but the positive aspects clearly outweigh this!

Review 122:Fantastic Location, spectacular views, delux double bed rooms are fantastic, very friendly and helpful staff, June is the best month to travel, hardly any guests, excellent price - performance ratio!

Review 123:Room not cleaned well. Meals expensive. Keep track of meals they triedto cheat us out of 50 euros. Lack of detail, breakfast fruit had birddroppings, plate of uneaten food not removed from breakfast area fordays. W/c in pool area no t/p or hand towels for days, poolrestaurant staff used this w/C. Jacuzzi water not heated.

Review 124:Location, too beauitful. Layout of room & terrace. Pool area. Sunbathing area. Staff friendly. Price was fair.

Review 125:When we arrived there were two cockroaches on our terrace but as soon as we notified them they were cleaned up. Our room was old and run down inside (not 4 star by any means) but everything else made up for it!

Review 126:Waking up to the stunning views every morning and eating breakfast, the pool and the steps down to the sea with curtained beds were the icing on the cake. Also Ilaria at reception was exceptionally helpful giving us great advice about places to visit always with a smile!

Review 127:needed more info about access to the park ( though we did not ask about it specifically .... it may be available at reception ...)

Review 128:we had a great time. Staff jolly, setting -- one of a kind on our trip. Weddings and birthdays celebrated in the dining room -- a little slice of local life. We didn't have enough time to take advantage of the National Park and walks. We found the beach ... well, a wonderful visit ...

Review 129:Fantastic location with magnificent views of the sea and the shoreline, very comfortable spacious room with a balcony, excellent food and very attentive staff. Everything was perfect.

Review 130:No access to the beach from the hotel because it is rocky. You have to drive 5km.

Review 131:Magnificent view on the white cliffs of Gargano. Each room has a private terrace. Delicious food.

Review 132:A little dated on the decor but still nice, WiFi didn't work but they had a computer to use in public area

Review 133:Location, location, location! AMAZING cliff top views from restaurant & our sea view terrace with 2 x sunloungers, table & chairs & HAMMOCK :), nice staff, good food, quiet & tranquil, jacuzzi bath

Review 134:The unpleasant plastic mattress protectors on the bed which made the bed feel hot and uncomfortable.

Review 135:Stunning dining rtoom with view of the sea and very courteous staff; lovely relaxed atmosphere. A fantastic, beautiful location. Our room had a lovely terrace with a magical view of the sea!

Review 136:location and friendliness of staff
