Reviews for Ice House Hotel
Review 1:The staff were very friendly, location is fabulous along the Moy, food is excellent. Our room was upgraded to a suite which was a pleasant surprise. Lovely outdoor hottub and sauna. Spa staff were excellent and facilities very relaxing.
Review 2:thin walls between bedrooms, but because there are no kids - you just hear a few coughs from adults
Review 3:ability to relax and forget about stresses of life -great out door hot tub - great food, great space to chill out and the best irish coffee!!!
Review 4:Breakfast wasn't as good as expected, for the standard and room charge it doesn't measure up.
Review 5:Spa is excellent, service is good and staff are very friendly.
Review 6:The hotel lacked somewhat in food. It was either bar food or trying to be fine dining, no in-between. Having said that, the bar food was very nice.
Review 7:Scenery was fabulous and the outdoor spa was great.
Review 8:I loved the mixture of vintage and modern. The view from the bedroom was wonderful. The food was lovely, the staff were very friendly. The hotel radiated a lovely, tranquil atmosphere.
Review 9:No minibar was a letdown for a hotel of this caliber. The heating system was uncontrollable, room was tremdously warm at all times. Limited lunch menu. Spa should be open a lot earlier than 10am.
Review 10:The room size was lovely. The small size of the hotel was great and so were the spa facilities.
Review 11:No phone signal in rooms. As a doctor on call this was a nightmare as somebody I knew died that morning and I couldn't be contacted
Review 12:Upgrade on arrival
Review 13:One thing, we had the early bird menu and both got the lamb, unfortunately it was very dry and bland, rest of meal and the breakfast was beautiful but I would advise you to tweak the lamb dish a bit, maybe boiling the meat first in a bag, then flash frying it so it's not dry
Review 14:The spa,the rooms, the staff
Review 15:Had to leave kettle on floor as flex too short to reach plug from tea/coffee tray and was not possible to put it down behind the desk.
Review 16:Excellent food, friendly staff, hot tub, comfy bed.
Review 17:Nothing
Review 18:Staff very friendly superb location, view from bedroom was lovely. Best time to go oct early nov as the trees in the forest across from the hotel are a blaze with colour.
Review 19:Nothing. Would have liked more time in hotel to avail of spa facilities
Review 20:The location on banks of Moy looking over at the changing autumn colours. Relaxed breakfast. Friendly staff.
Review 21:The resturant is overpriced and poorly run. My requests were not adhered to ( I wasn't in a second story room). There were exposed wires on two sockets. The furniture was poorly maintained. The blinds didn't open. People could stand outside of your full length window and look in if they wished. There were no means of controlling the room temperature ( including opening a window ). The breakfast was awful considering the price. There was no guaranteed parking. I could go on
Review 22:The bed and the pen
Review 23:We had a noisy radiator in the bedroom. We asked to change room and this was done as soon as possible. Staff could not have been nicer. Beautiful view's from hotel. Lovely food and wine.
Review 24:Fabulous place in a great location on the river. We were upgraded to a suite which was fantastic as we were on the edge of the river watching ducks swim by! Food was delicious, breakfast fantastic.
Review 25:The restaurant was a little expensive, but the wait staff were simply incredible
Review 26:We enjoyed everything about the place. The rooms were good sized, modern bathroom with a terrific view.
Review 27:Bed was very uncomfortable. Room was very hot, couldn't turn off heater and heater made very loud noises during the night. Didn't sleep great. Request for room with bath as it isn't guaranteed even if you're paying €215 per night.
Review 28:Food was lovely, view was beautiful. Very relaxing atmosphere in bar and hotel.
Review 29:One of the spa staff wasn't overly friendly. We stayed for 2 nights. Ended up both getting sick on the second. Could get sick.in worst places.
Review 30:It was a beautiful hotel. So different. The receptionist tgat cheak us in was so friendly and showed us to our bedroom door. Room was beautiful.
Review 31:The room & facilities available were amazing. The staff were very friendly & welcoming, upon arrival we were shown to our suite & showed where all of the facilities were. Went through everything in our suite for us, the service was excellent. The view was amazing and was very peaceful.
Review 32:Absolutely stunning !! From we arrived until we left I could not fault anything at all! My 1st time staying here and will most definitely be booking my next trip down again very soon!! Me & My a Partner had the most relaxing and perfect few days away!! ... From the room (copper) to the meals and the incredible spa facilities! Perfect!! .. The staff are top class and a big asset to the hotel! ... An easy 5 star rating!! And would highly recommend to everyone!! Big thanks to the Ice House Hotel & All the staff!! ❤️
Review 33:Not within walking distance of the downtown area.
Review 34:Very interesting hotel with great service, facilities, food and beverage. Highly recommend this to anyone heading out to Ballina. We used it as a central point for golf in West/Northwest Ireland.
Review 35:We arrived to a warm welcome, complimentary Prosecco and a congratulations card in our room. The hotel is absolutely stunning with fabulous location on the river and the staff treated us like royalty. Highest recommendations!
Review 36:The pre-prandial gin and tonics were not presented as described in the menu. Why bother having such a fancy and delightful menu if you don't follow through.
Review 37:The room overlooking the river was just beautiful.
Review 38:Very slow service in the dining room both for dinner and for breakfast. Would have liked to have a mini fridge in room with real milk for cup of tea/coffee.
Review 39:Loved the view from the bedroom and how clean and tidy it was after housekeeping staff.
Review 40:Staff at dinner time were all over the place. We didnt have the same waiter throughout our dinner. We had to wait to get their attention to take our order and clear the table. Breakfast portion very small....I got a bagel and cream cheese and they just served half a bagel!
Review 41:I loved the hotel decor and large comfortable rooms. The food was very tasty.
Review 42:Breakfast was quite limited very poor choice of breads etc I can't take walnuts so brown bread was out. selection of cold meats , cheese quite poor.
Review 43:Room , river view , hot tub , sauna lovely.
Review 44:Out side the hotel selfish people had left rubbish even though there wasa bin nearby. This is not the fault of the hotel but perhaps they couldhave someone check each morning.
Review 45:I love the location, we had a very relaxing stay and look forward togoing back.
Review 46:I felt it was a little over priced
Review 47:Staff were very friendly and helpful. The standard of food and service in the restaurant was excellent (dinner and breakfast)
Review 48:The bedrooms are spacious, very comfortable and have a magnificent view. The food is top quality and means that you do not have to go out looking for a good restaurant elsewhere in town. The free hot tubs are a joy.
Review 49:Thought the location of the hot tubs were too public. It was the first thing we saw from the road. A little less public would be more enticing.
Review 50:Loved the location. The view from the room was spectacular. The room was very comfortable. We had a great undisturbed sleep. The food was excellent. Staff were great. Was like being on a cruise ship looking out on the river
Review 51:Restaurant seriously over priced for what you get. Socket in bathroom hanging down and socket with cut out hole in bedroom. Too many staff stomping around hotel especially in restaurant and bar.
Review 52:Views amazing and staff in spa super friendly and helpful. Bed really comfortable and room service on time
Review 53:Poor choice of starters and main courses on the A La Carte Menu. Full Irish Breakfast was poor.
Review 54:Bed very Comfortable and nice choice of toilteries. Eggs Benedict was excellent
Review 55:We loved everything. The staff were lovely, the food was amazing. I had a lovely treatment in the spa on the day we were checking out and loved every minute of it. The spa manager couldn't have been any nicer. We will definitely be back.
Review 56:Room a bit tired broken balcony door reported to staff as soon as we arrived was not fixed not a big deal to us but families with young kids potentially dangerous. A bit underwhelming for the price to be honest. Not enough info regarding room facilities spa treatments some of them available in room but didn't know this. Things supposed to be in room not working underfloor heating , thermostat for room not working seemed preset and surround sound music system not even in room! No mini bar.
Review 57:Lovely views from riverside suite. Bar and restaurant staff lovely and friendly.
Review 58:Food mediocre compared to every other aspect of the property. Not particularly bad just lacking in imagination and refinement and therefore out of sync with the very high quality of the facility
Review 59:Location, rooms
Review 60:The food isn't as good as it used to be - breakfast was fine ( no great shakes - undercooked rashers, miserable portion of toast, four small pieces of cheese made up the cheeseboard on the buffet), and having been unimpressed with the dining room last time we stayed earlier this year, we went for bar food instead. Again, it was grand, nothing wonderful. A real pity because it lets the fantastic place down.
Review 61:V friendly n professional staff. The comfiest bed I've ever slept in. Wonderful view from bedroom of ducks floating by the window. Great design standards.
Review 62:Located on the side of the road. Lighting very poor in bathrooms Access to spa/sauna/hot tubs was through reception or through the restuarant. Asked for maple syrup for porridge but was told they had none.
Review 63:Staff were very nice
Review 64:Hotel was very quiet with no real atmosphere...we were the only couple left sitting with a drink at 12am...I think the main reason people go 2 this hotel is for the spa experience...nothing much else 2 do. But if u want a quiet peaceful time it's the place 2 go...
Review 65:Don't like the polished concrete hand basin. Hard to imagine how this could be cleaned properly.
Review 66:We were made to feel very welcome. Location right on the water is very good.
Review 67:Glass door in the room did not open and no window for air. Food overpriced for fair to good food. Cooked breakfast a little small with limited items on the plate.
Review 68:Location, room, dining room, bed & staff.
Review 69:Room phone was not working. Hifi speaker in bathroom was not working either so no music in seaweed bath :( Wifi had to be reset as it was not working.
Review 70:The view from bed. The heron by the river. The bathroom in stone. The building history.
Review 71:Room was small and furniture a bit tired, view was great and bed was super comfortable. Fabulous huge bath but no toiletries for it ?? How about some bubble bath or something. Was a bit expensive based on what's available elsewhere. Attention to detail issues were most obvious, walls freshly painted but paint was applied poorly, running up on window frames, etc. Holes in the walls in the restaurant where "something" used to be installed. Electronic door locks not working, lots of small stuff that you cant get wrong in a hotel selling an experience. Spending 350 euro plus all in for one night usually means everything is perfect.
Review 72:Food good, breakfast good, views excellent but you wouldn't stay in the small room for long.
Review 73:I felt that as the spa was under renovation and not up to acceptable standard it should not have been in use. We decided to stay there because of spa facilities, and were very disappointed. Therefore not good value for money.
Review 74:Breakfast
Review 75:All was excellent other than a minor complaint of a large deposit by a bird in the middle of the big windows in our room ..... Took a little from the view. Other than that ....nothing !
Review 76:What a hidden gem. Small, quiet and quaint..... Lovely food and a gorgeous setting.
Review 77:The furniture in the room may need a little upgrade, but this did not take away from the overall experience.
Review 78:Addressed by my name in a friendly way on arrival was a welcoming touch. The views were so amazing. The treatments in the spa were excellent. Really interesting building. Loved the personal note in the room on arrival. Only ever experienced that once before, in the ritz in Madrid. The information booklet in the room has the perfect amount of information for what to do in the area. Seem to work well with the surrounding businesses.
Review 79:The cocktails are a little pricey at 9.50 and coffee a little dear at 3.50.
Review 80:The rooms are well decorated and really relaxing. The restaurant is wonderful. Great food. A really good job turning this old building into a modern funky hotel.
Review 81:There was nothing i disliked about my stay
Review 82:Wanted to get away to the ice house to get away from it all and switch off somewhere where i could destress and recharge the batteries. I had treatment in there spa which was unbelievable, its a credit to the hotel to have such caring and helpful staff. Special thanks would be to my therapist Elaine who with out question make my spa experience very special. For all the staff, Niall, Lorraine at reception couldnt do enough for you. I will be returning with out a doubt and will be telling everyone about the ice house.
Review 83:The food ... tables not cleared after starter, so waiter sailed past with mains; returned to clear starter dishes and then sailed back with mains .. which had been microwaved to heat them up as they had go cold from their sailing between the restaurant and kitchen!!
Review 84:The fabulous view from the bedroom and the cool layout of the restaurant .. can't beat it.
Review 85:Some facilities were closed for reasons left unexplained.
Review 86:The suite over looking the river was very very good and the food was as good as we have tasted anywhere.
Review 87:Very little to the place apart from restaurant and room. TV froze from 7 til 11 and wifi went at around 11 not back until I was leaving.
Review 88:Comfortable modern clean polite and friendly
Review 89:We were greeted at reception and shown to our room. The room itself was fantastic with an exceptional view (espiecially with the snow the next morning). We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was exceptional. The staff were attentive and catered to our every need. Next time we stay, we will be availing of the spa as well. Cant wait :D
Review 90:Room we stayed in was a bit stark. Very modern. Attention to detail required with house keeping. Room a bit dusty and patio out side bedroom required a sweep.
Review 91:The food is amazing. We had dinner in the pier restuarant and it was fab. Great service too. The room had a fab view
Review 92:Disliked only staying 1 night!! (I know its a positive but its the only thing I can think of that I did'nt like!!!)
Review 93:Beautiful personal hotel, very friendly & professional staff! Good food in restaurant. Nice outdoor hot tub and sauna. Lovely rooms with incredible view!
Review 94:no comments since things are all gud
Review 95:.The hotel is new,our room nearby the river which give u a nice view...spacious toilet.staff are very helpful,All together..perfect!!!!!
Review 96:The hot tub needed cleaning as it left a scum on skin after use, it could also have been warmer however it was beautiful. A bulb was missing from bedside light which was mildly irritating.
Review 97:Lovely staff, beautiful views, relaxing facial and great location.
Review 98:Wifi did not work in the room, rang reception and was told he'd call us back but never did. Loud noise could be heard in the morning. Booking.com says there's a hair straightener in room, but didn't find one.
Review 99:Lovely bathroom, nice Voya products. Bed was very comfortable. Nice breakfast, good choice.
Review 100:Bath didn't have a plug and we found it difficupt to use. Restaurant was extremely expensive so we never ate there.
Review 101:Outdoor hottubs looking over the river, calm atmosphere, beautiful scenery
Review 102:Lots of stairs. Light not working at mirror.
Review 103:Spa facilities great in a relaxed setting. Restaurant food was good and room suite overlooking the river was fab.
Review 104:The rooms were quite noisy - sound travelled from room to room and floor to floor.
Review 105:The bathroom was stunning, huge tub and waterfall shower. The bed was large and super comfortable and the view of the river was awesome - the whole front of the room was glass overlooking the water.
Review 106:The spa is tiny and not worth a second look. Food could be better.
Review 107:The view overlooking the river was amazing. Really relaxing to look at. The staff were very attentive.
Review 108:Stylish decor but exterior of building and main front of house areas looking a little tired, could do with freshening up as architecturally it is a beautiful building. Restaurant is very expensive!! Didn't like sauna being outside....not ideal in irish weather and very exposed to restaurant diners.
Review 109:Comfortable bedroom with lovely view of the river. Great bathroom too.
Review 110:Nothing.
Review 111:Very comfortable and modern hotel in an excellent location.Friendly and obliging staff.Rooms well equipped with large bathroom and walk in shower.Robes and slippers provided.
Review 112:The hotel is in need of a makeover and appears a bit drab and shabby. The food choice could be better at breakfast. Given it's lovely location on the Moy,one would expect to see some fish options for breakfast. We couldn't get TV3 in our bedroom! I found the winter douvet much too warm, which impacted on my quality of sleep. I requested that it be changed or substituted for a blanket but this was not done. It was not possible to get an appointment for any treatment in the Spa, despite hearing from another guest that the Spa seemed to be very quiet. I got the impression that this may be due to lack of staff. Water was leaking in from the roof onto the foyer which caused a power failure one evening.
Review 113:The staff were friendly and overall service was good. The food served was good. The location was lovely!
Review 114:nothing!
Review 115:I loved my room - Amber-, the view was stunning. Such a luxurious bathroom. The Restaurant was most attractive with the same beautiful river views. The Menu gave good choices, and the food didn't disappoint.
Review 116:Evening Menu slightly overpriced
Review 117:Location We had a suite called the Leaf which was fantastic, lovely and cosy, breakfast was very nice as well, nice touch left in room on arrival with a card from the manager and plate of chocolate prifeteroles
Review 118:The sticking door to the bathroom.
Review 119:What a fabulous location next to a lovely stretch of water. The modern architecture, both inside and outside, is stunning. The blending in of the original Ice House and the ultra modern new wings was tastefully done. It was nice to just slide open the full height windows and walk onto the veranda. The staff were friendly and accommodating.
Review 120:I did not have enough time to experience the Chill Spa as only stayed for one night, but will be back.
Review 121:The room was excellent, very comfortable and all you could want was there. The view from the room (slate) was fabulous and the variation in river levels due to the tidal changes made it more interesting. The towel rail was strained and damaged, should have been a heavier duty type, spoils the almost perfect decor. Would love to go back for a longer stay and will do sometime.
Review 122:One of hot tubs and outside sauna not working. Hotel was a bit further from the town than I expected. That said, the room and restaurant were more than tempting enough to stay in!
Review 123:Fabulous rooms in well appointed and extremely comfortable hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Main building nicely laid out and interesting history.
Review 124:Spa Leisure area in dire need of maintenance. Outdoor jacuzzi was not clean and the sauna had not been operational for some time.
Review 125:Breakfast was really good. Bedroom comfortable.
Review 126:The rooms adjoining the bar area were rather gloomy.Lighting needs to be brighter.
Review 127:The food was outstanding. Excellent chefs & very friendly staff ,always cheerful...nothing was a trouble. The views from the bedrooms were wonderful with the chance to observe wildlife on river.
Review 128:- no swimming pool - it is really the only thing missing - possibly want to look at providing room service later than the 9pm deadline. It's a tourist area and people will be trying to make the most of the day. We arrived just before 9 and they did accommodate us but it would have been a negative if we had to leave the hotel again, to eat, after a long day of touring around.
Review 129:What a fantastic stay at the Ice House Hotel. We loved - the staff - without exception, very welcoming and accommodating - the room and the river view - stunning - didn't have enough time there to use the hot-tub overlooking the river but we will do so on our next visit - the food - fab!
Review 130:the room was beside a noisy pump station did not sleep. On departure we mentioned it to reception they never heard of the noise
Review 131:the view from the bedroom
Review 132:Some noise from chilling units outside with balcony window open.
Review 133:Hotel was lovely with beautiful views across the Moy river. Nice walk into a lively town
Review 134:My only little add on would be that sometimes it's good to be advised basic things like you can take a drink in the bar and sit up in the snug area or lounge and until what time. A briefing of main things that hotel offers besides breakfast times and a friendly reception and departure are important.
Review 135:Every aspect of the ice house was simply great. The names on the rooms to the view to the river to the lounges in the tranquil room it was just lovely. The restaurant was superb delicious breakfasts and superb dinners could not ask for more.
Review 136:No air-conditioning in the bedroom. Movement of staff and empty bottle bins between kitchen/bar outside rooms at river level. Not good for either privacy or tranquility.
Review 137:Almost everything.
Review 138:Food, staff, bedrooms, setting - we couldn't fault a thing. The view from the bedrooms, overlooking the river, was a real treat. As was the Indian head and shoulders massage - thanks Celine! We had a lovely, relaxing 2 night stay. Highly recommended.
