Reviews for Hotel Ballina
Review 1:We stayed in room 204, there was a badly torn armchair which was completely out of sync with the entire hotel, we would not have minded if there was no arm chair. Also the signage leading to the hotel is very poor, it was dark when we arrived and we could not find how to access the hotel, even though we could see the hotel from the road...
Review 2:Everything was perfect..staff lovely, a warm, friendly and relaxing atmosphere..
Review 3:King size bed mattress not that comfortable when one turns over it disturbed the other. Pillows could be Softer not foam. But overall pleased with our stay and would return again. Signage on main road needs improving as we went straight past the turning.
Review 4:Very warm and comfortable. Friendly staff. Food very good but portions too big they could easily reduce portion sizes.
Review 5:Age limit for the pool.
Review 6:All the staff were friendly and very helpful, nothing was any trouble for them and as a result our stay was fantastic. keep up the great work.
Review 7:Not the hotels fault but due to the local flooding of the river, we couldn't use the lift or facility's including pool. Very nice hotel otherwise.
Review 8:The location of hotel and comfort. Came to hotel for a wedding in ballina and was nice to get back to a relaxed atmosphere.
Review 9:Needs more signage for turnoff... stencil markings on the back of a road sign does not do the hotel credit. Hotel perfect though.... just signs for us blow ins.
Review 10:Fantastic hotel unsure when I passed it on the road as from the back it does look a bit bleak (if it was me i would plant some trees!!)however once you go in it is a fantastic hotel with everything that you need for a night away. Nice staff good facilities easily accessible. Excellent standards of decor and cleanliness. Highly recommend it.
Review 11:Staff were extremely attentive and welcoming... will always stay there if travelling to Ballina! Food is amazing! Love the Chowder and wedges with their secret sauce!
Review 12:Nice place though no Wifi in rooms.Cheap all in one shampoo, shower gel in bathroom. No drinking water in hotel pool,2€ payment required for same!! So a lot of those extras and 'not so' extras were'nt available as advertised on Hotel Ballina's website. Was okay for one night, I would not have stayed a second night.
Review 13:Room Was nice though without any added extras which one would have expected for the price. Bar food was nice and bar staff were friendly. Pool Was nice but see below for more.
Review 14:My issue with this hotel related to the changing area in the leisure center which was filthy. There was hair everywhere and the showers were not only filthy but were also cold. In the end the children were wrapped in towels and showered back at the room. Thankfully our room was close to the leisure center. If you are looking for somewhere to stay but don't plan on using the leisure facilities then the hotel is fine. If like me you choose a hotel where there are leisure facilities available this is definitely not the place to stay!
Review 15:The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. The room it's self was clean and spacious for our needs. The younger child was accommodated in a camp style bed which was fine. Breakfast was adequate if limited i.e. there was a cooked breakfast but limited cereal etc.
Review 16:We stayed for 2 nights in late October 2015 and had a great experience. The hotel and bedroom were modern and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great and the evening menu was quite good. Free wifi and access to the swimming pool.
Review 17:Room was very hot during the night.
Review 18:This hotel is so relaxed and homely. We had a lovely break here and I would recommend it for families. The bar food is lovely and good value.
Review 19:The jacuzzi was cold and there was a dirty plaster floating in it. It was filthy. I had to leave for work at 7 and tried to get breakfast brought to room for 6.30 but they didn't start until 7.30. There was an awful buzzing noise in room all night that kept me awake. The girl on trip with me in other room said the same noise kept her awake also.
Review 20:Bed was comfy, room was spacious
Review 21:Breakfast not being included in the price
Review 22:Polite staff. Huge bed, lovely shower, good TV options and nice touch to have biscuits with coffee, and able to have more than 1 breakfast plate
Review 23:The second bed in our twin bedded room was a different height to the other one and was tilting somewhat on one side giving the impression that it had just been put into the room at the last minute.
Review 24:Very pleasant and helpful staff. Enjoyed chatting to and listening to the musician who was playing music in the lounge the Saturday night we stayed in the hotel.
Review 25:Lesser points : Yes some aspects of the room furnishings are dated & "tired" like the carpets & easy chairs. Some attention to checking on housekeeping in bathroom could improve like on arrival the shower gel was empty & the shower head needed tightening & the toilet could do with a good under rim clean. The chairs on the 1st floor lobby are covered in throw overs to cover how worn & scuffed they are. But sure the chairs & beds were very comfortable & we weren't there to sit in our rooms & foyers all day so that's not an important factor in our ratings. I would definitely come again to this hotel. Room Tip: If you explain your needs the staff will try to match these ( within reason of course ! )
Review 26:I can see mixed reviews but a 2 night stay with my elderly Mum was very comfortable & enjoyable & we felt very well looked after & she has asked to return. She has stayed in Blue Book starred hotels. Great points :- Quieter location , easy to find & impressive entrance drive in with a water feature. Plenty exclusive parking. Fabulous Customer service & welcome & attention - tea & coffee arrived in a jiffy while I booked in. The Foyer is impressive -reminicient of some 4* overseas hotels. My room requests were accomodated & I was allowed to view a choice which was more suited to my Mum's needs. A twin room on 1st floor had fantastic disabled wet room shower facilities. Extra chair request for the room was there in minutes.Restaurant Decor is impressive. The evening menu is extensive & would suit a range of tastes. Food quality great & service excellent. The restaurant & indeed the staff teams throughout the hotel made a lovely fuss of my Mum for her 91st B'day- excellent customer service again. Worth noting if the numbers for breakfast are low you get an individual menu cooked to order ( excellent choice) But if there's a high cover for breakfast its a hot buffet only.
Review 27:staff at check in were having a little tiff about who should check guest rooms, AT 9AM HOUSEKEEPING WOKE US AND AGAIN AT 9.45 EVENTHOUGH CHECK OUT WAS 11AM. We were not having breakfast.
Review 28:the room was spacious and the food fo rdinner was perfect Older staff reprimanded young staff member in our hearing because she omitted icecream from dessert order!! The barman was really friendly and efficient we enjoyed his interaction
Review 29:Layout on 3rd ,changed to 2nd all OK there
Review 30:Friendly staff, excellent food, beautiful garden area ,free wifi , location is the only down side (minor) really enjoyed our stay ,we will visit again, would recomend
Review 31:The rooms with uneven numbers are facing the main road which is very noisy if you like to leave a window open at night
Review 32:The swinning pool and the allergy information on the menus.
Review 33:Food quality is poor enough, bar menu basic nothing special for price charges. All members of reception? (or possible managers - black suit uniforms) poor to deal with and no genuine feeling of welcome. A little far out of town if you are planning on going out for the night.
Review 34:The physical hotel is fine, but lacking a little atmosphere. Wait staff in bar/restaurant fine but looked a little tired.
Review 35:Poor Service when we were in dining room for Breakfast. No one taking the lead. slow to clear tables when other guests Were arriving
Review 36:Reception staff were very helpful. Upgraded to bigger room at no extra charge as I had booked what I thought was a family room but turned out to be a double bed only.
Review 37:We have dinner at the hotel restaurant, the lamb steak was very hard like there plastic in between the meat one can hardly chew it. The hotel's version of Bruschetta was really wonderful in the taste, but it was not nicely put in the plate, no presentation at all.
Review 38:The staff were very friendly
Review 39:Excellent staff from reception to dining room and to the cleaning staff, something that is missing in many hotels. It also gives value for money which is most important
Review 40:I was over charged for all of my 3 nights stay and trying to get arefund was like pulling teeth. The staff were not very friendly andalthough I booked in for 3 nights I was moved room each night not ideal
Review 41:The hotel seemed empty of guests! Badly fitted bathroom door. Get rid of torn battered leather chair in that room we were in! Bedroom floor was dirty & traces of litter on it. Bad value overall.
Review 42:Very good breakfast choice. Nice decor in dining area if a little dark. Plenty of parking spaces.
Review 43:No atmosphere. Big local brewery event on and it took over the hotel. A lot of well oiled people everywhere. A letter in my room apologising was not good enough. I would have gone elsewhere if I had known but I suppose that's why they didn't tell me in advance.
Review 44:The food was good
Review 45:Fire alarm went on 3 times in the morning as the staff was testing something without any warning.
Review 46:The hotel in general is ok but it is not 4 star quality. I would give them not more than 3.
Review 47:Breakfast. Pastries are nearly all gone an hour before it finishes, food looked like it was under heat lamp forever
Review 48:Location and value @ 250 for 3 nights B&B
Review 49:The hotel is advertised as '4star luxury', which it is not. I found it disappointing and felt it was bad value for money.
Review 50:The hotel was very clean and the staff (in particular the reception staff) were very pleasant. The rooms were a generous size.
Review 51:Location is about 2.5 km outside Ballina off a main road near a commercial / industrial area.
Review 52:Hotel is good value and very clean. Staff are mostly very knowledgeable and helpful. We were leaving early and they organised breakfast at 7 for us. Facilities are good. Everything is spotlessly clean. Wifi is good in bedroom and public areas. There is a good selection of foodstuffs for breakfast and the bar food is of good quality and the price is not exhorbitant. The daily specials however could be more varied eg1: fish special was a duo of cod and salmon on Friday and on Sunday it was a duo of cod and smoked fish. eg2: On Friday the vegetables were broccoli, cauliflower and turnip. Vegetables were identical on Saturday and Sunday.
Review 53:Needs some upgrades. While clean- not without simple faults. Kids camp beds and mattresses a disaster. Had them changed without trouble but still no good. Child slept on mattress on the floor. VERY far out of town- very misleading to say close to town centre. Cost €10 each way in taxi. Breakfast not great.
Review 54:Looks a lovely hotel. Outside maintained well.
Review 55:Bfast wasn't great, tv remote not working, leather chair in roomneeds to be thrown out, very noisy with wedding on,no duty managerseemed to keep control.
Review 56:Beds are very comfortable
Review 57:fire alarm in our bedroom went off at 4.30am, it was horribly loud and frightened us but there was no sign of a fire or smoke,it took ages for us to go asleep again and we were exhausted the next day.
Review 58:great value for money
Review 59:There is no housekeeper during the night , my son vomits on the sheets so when i saw the receptionist bringing the sheets to my room i told her I'll be the one to change it coz I feel so sorry for her doing all the tasked wherein im sure its not part of her job description.
Review 60:The staff are so friendly.
Review 61:The cheek of the hotel management after paying over two hundred pounds for a two night stay.giving me a room with a dirty staind carpet. When I complaind they said yes we are aware of it,after waiting forty min they gave me another room
Review 62:Car parking and wi/fi also bathroom very neat and tidy
Review 63:cleaning staff outside my room at 8.30 hovering and discussing they're weekend and everything they did not nice when ur trying to sleep on a weekend away ... room could use a wee lick of paint !!!
Review 64:Big spacious room ...with superking bed clean and quiet .
Review 65:The choice for breakfast was poor. The chairs in the breakfast room were uncomfortable.
Review 66:The bed was large and comfortable. The rooms were spacious and clean.
Review 67:The pool area was disappointing, more like public swimming baths than a hotel, only a couple of loungers in the whole area. Breakfast was served up to 10.30am, which is great but if you get there after 10am & want a continental breakfast your out of luck, croissants & pastries all gone & staff said, there's no more! Hotel should display more promotional material for local musical/events, leaflet area not well stocked.
Review 68:Hotel well located for Mayo's beautiful surrounding countryside.
Review 69:Few issues with cleanliness of room on arrival mary at the desk lovely but manager on duty didnt speak to us next morning new manager was super acknowledged our complaint and gave us a generous discount of the bill would stay again
Review 70:Lovely staff nice big room great breakfast
Review 71:Had a wonderful stay however breakfast on both mornings was actually cold. This was at 9.00am. We did speak to people who dined at 10.0am and theirs was fine. Dinner on the night was a disaster, over 1 hour waiting on food to be served, three of us in the group and one was finished their dinner before the other two came out to the table. Whilst staff were very attentative and aware of the issue (numerous tables with the same problem) I felt someone should have explained that there would be a delay and heres a drink on the house while you wait. Instead I had to get frustated, complain to the poor barman. Eventually the manager did come down to apologise and gave us the dinner on the house. There was clearly something going on in the kitchen as there were numerous people waiting on food, couple next to us had to complain as well. Another couple got dessert but had to wait 5 minutes for a spoon to actually eat it. All in all it was kinda like faulty towers but we still enjoyed the stay.
Review 72:Facilities and hotel itself are beautiful, rooms very comfy. Good place to chill if with kids as well as plenty of space upstairs for them to run around without annoying others.
Review 73:Bar & open areas very noisy, staff on desk functional but not very pleasant, camp bed mattress so thin that child couldn't sleep on it & slept in main bed, when this was mentioned at check out the receptionist attitude was "ah well"
Review 74:The hotel is about a 5 minute car journey outside the town so it costs €10 for a taxi into town.
Review 75:Large, clean bedrooms with everything you need. Reasonably priced.
Review 76:Staff on arrival not welcoming or polite, hotel full of travellers, wouldn't use again, served out of date bottle of beer in the bar also
Review 77:Room was clean, otherwise nothing great
Review 78:I had booked several rooms in this hotel 6+ months in advance. While checking in I realized breakfast wasn't included in some. I made a simple request of a courtesy breakfast for the Groom on the morning of his wedding as a good will gesture for all the business he was bringing to this hotel over three days. This simple request had to be passed to management. The manager refused our request and didn't bother to contact us herself which shows a lack of courtesy and appreciation for our business. Such poor management has lost their owners lots of extra business over the 3 day weekend. Having trained and worked in Hotel and Catering, I am amazed and saddened to witness this treatment of guests. To add insult to injury they gave me room 225 which has to be the worst room in the hotel, stuffy feather pillows, shoddy carpet, poor lighting, no space and drunken noisy guests at 3am outside our window on the patio.
Review 79:Nothing after such poor treatment.
Review 80:Very little fault except not a lot for older children aged 10 - 15 yrs to do
Review 81:Loved the Irish staff breakfast was fantastic especially as I was able to have a full gluten free breakfast which seldom happens & all the staff were helpful pleasant &ever so friendly & a great pool
Review 82:Tatty leather chair in the room, also there was a stain on the carpet. Nothing that would bother me and didn't take from my stay but perhaps would for others.
Review 83:Very friendly front office staff...quick and efficient check-in & out...room was comfortable & quiet
Review 84:Very friendly welcome. There were large weddings on both days that we weren't part of and yet the staff still made sure we were treated as well as the wedding guests
Review 85:The leather chair in room need replaced due to wear and tear
Review 86:Excellent hotel.staff friendly.breakfast amazing. Dinner was much better than other reviews had stated. Got 2 adjoining rooms for the price of one. Had a fabulous 4 night stay... Would return again...
Review 87:We booked a superior room only to be told all rooms were the same. The carpet in the first room was badly bown stained and looked awful. We asked to switch rooms and were given a room with a duvet that didnt fit the cover, a torn armchair, a remote control that only worked occasionally and stained carpeting. Common areas look good but the rooms are badly in need of upkeep.
Review 88:Staff were lovely.
Review 89:The bed size was lovely but it was very uncomfortable and the pillows were to hard. None of the two of us slept the night.
Review 90:The hotel is beautiful and the room was fabulous.
Review 91:Had lunch there after checking out. The soup was served almost cold, I ordered the Atlantic cod for mains it was a disappointingly small slither of fish in lashings of burnt batter. Would recommend going elsewhere for for your lunch as staff seemed inexperienced and food is of very poor quality. won't be going back.
Review 92:Everything, unpleasant room, rude staff, false promises as complaints weren't dealt with....I don't have days to waste writing a review it was that frustrating.
Review 93:The food in the bar
Review 94:There seemed to be some confusion at breakfast.....maybe short staff!! But unforseen circumstances cannot be helped.
Review 95:The friendly staff made us very welcome on arrival. A nice atmosphere in reception and bar-lounge. Rooms were pristine clean and spacious.
Review 96:No air conditioning and window only opened a few inches at top to vent. Appeared to have another lock at bottom but staff couldn't find a key to unlock it , although they did try. Would not go back again due to lack of air in rooms
Review 97:Overall, good hotel. Spacious rooms, comfortable beds, room service v good, friendly staff.
Review 98:Unfortunately there wasn't much atmosphere in the bar area - probably due to the fact we were there mid-week. Most of the guest seemed to head into town for a drink/entertainment. Maybe if there had been something on in the hotel they might have hung around.
Review 99:The hotel is very clean and comfortable, our room was great size.
Review 100:Paid for family room for 2 nights, didnt get it. Fold out was appalling. Child couldnt sleep, left after 1 night. Duty manager didnt even off an apology the next morning. Its situated outside ballina and not in it, it is at least a 45 min walk into town.
Review 101:Pool was great, reception staff were very nice
Review 102:A bit out of town but only short car- ride. Nothing much around the hotel.
Review 103:A comfortable modern hotel with great staff and facilities. The pool / steam Room and Gym were particularly appreciated as they are hard to find in Ireland.
Review 104:The family room (107),was very small for a family room and expensive 109e room only, also for a double, single and travel bed, which sunk into the floor when my child tried to sleep on it, so she shared the single bed with my other daughter. The carpet I presume was supposed to be cream but it was absolutely filthy, grey colour. We had to wear our shoes/socks at all time, lots of mould around the shower.
Review 105:The location of hotel was OK, the lobby was spacious, the food in the bar was fine. Service a little bit slow and the hotel wasn't busy. It needs a bit of TLC.
Review 106:when seated for breakfast no tea/coffee offered. Had to ask on 2 separate occasions once for tea/coffee second time for toast. Only small but just a bit annoying! Shower gel in room had not been filled up either..
Review 107:rooms were big and comfortable.
Review 108:No resteraunt as advertised only partitioned off section of bar. Exttemely over priced Room rate Frayed furniture in room. Poor choice on menu and exspensive
Review 109:The carpet was stained in the bedroom. No coffee left in the bedroom. The service was really slow for evening meal.
Review 110:Comfortable bed and nice area to sit and have coffee.
Review 111:Tables in bar were dirty, had to move twice to get a clean one. No Sauvignon Blanc. Explanation you had a wedding the day before, all drunk. Bad planning for a hotel.
Review 112:Staff were friendly
Review 113:Late opening of Spa at weekends (9am)
Review 114:Located on the outskirts of Ballina and givind good access to fishing lakes around Pontoon and close to River Moy. Large Bar and Restuarant serving great food.A popular Wedding venue but guest are in their own area.
Review 115:Hotel is badly signposted from Foxford side and from town. I drove past it on way into Ballina and nearly missed it again on the way out.
Review 116:Pool & gym were good. Nice, clean modern room & bathroom. Good selection of food at breakfast time.
Review 117:Spa experience only reasonable. Spa could be of a better standard. Swimming pool full with kids having lessons so unable to use as a paying guest. Music in bar on Saturday night was horrendous.
Review 118:Bed very comfortable. Room very quiet.
Review 119:Leisure centre wasn't very clean - looked very tired. Our non smoking floor smelt of smoke. Lots of carpet stains in the room. Table in the room, but no chairs. Safe didn't work.
Review 120:Rooms were large and clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good location for what we needed.
Review 121:Should be better signage advising where to turn off when leaving main road {only sign advising where hotel was, was on the back of council sign}
Review 122:Kids enjoyed the hotel, lovely area out the back for the kids, plenty of scope for kids. Not to far from the town
Review 123:Explained layout of room to leisure centre. But when we figured it out, it was straightforward.
Review 124:Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Bedroom was spacious and clean, will lots of towels. Important when travelling with kids. Breakfast was hot and immediate, well presented and plentiful.
Review 125:Very nice hotel and staff. Outside of town so not too noisy or crowded. Excellent location and facilities for a quiet break away. Great breakfast. Gluten free options were readily available.
Review 126:It's a pitty that the gym and swimming pool are closed so early during the weekends and bank holidays. Breakfast could be better.
Review 127:We liked the size of the bed and that the room was very clean and spacious.
Review 128:Very friendly welcome from the start of your visit. The food is very good and the atmosphere is nice and relaxed. Rooms nice and quiet and beds comfy!
Review 129:Could do with clear signage near access road on main road from Ballina. No view from room, just a blank wall opposite.
Review 130:Good choice of food on menu. Style of hotel reminiscent of those in US National Parks. Plenty of car parking.
Review 131:unhappy with our room as door jammed, no bath and alot stains on the carpet. thankfully reception changed our room, which was more suitable. Our spa treatments were booked in the wrong day, once changed did not explain our treatments would no longer be at the same time & in fact one after the other which delayed our whole day, making the whole experience less enjoyable.. Also received coffee in cracked cup and glass of water with stains on glass.. I felt overall huge lack of attention to detail and a lack of communication skills between staff..
Review 132:location, staff were friendly enjoyed food in bar.
Review 133:The swimming area could be decorated abit better and there was nosinger on at 9.30pm Saturday night as mentioned on the website- wewaited till 10.30pm.
Review 134:We stayed fri- sun to do some salmon fishing. The staff were so sofriendly at breakfast and dinner...in particular jacqueline- she waskind, helpful and very nice. The rooms are lovely!
Review 135:There was a wedding on the Friday which spilled over to the Saturday night. The bar was overtaken by the wedding guests, particularly the children, who were racing round the hotel until well after midnight. Trying to have a quiet drink with my family in the lobby, was impossible, especially when we asked if the children could be under the control of their parents instead of being let loose round the hotel. One of the parents became quite incensed that we had asked the children, (after midnight) to go back to their parents in the bar. There should be a policy where guests are reminded that there are other guests who have paid good money to stay. I would never stay there again.
Review 136:The location was good, easy to find. The staff were generally helpful.
Review 137:Wi Fi system in bedroom had flashing lights which reflected on room walls all night. No entertainment in hotel on holdiay weekend ( Staurday Night).
Review 138:Room very basic for 4 star. Breakfast very good.
Review 139:No entertainment for guests. Same background music just played over and the Fri night in the bar, the tv was on. So at least it was a distraction. ... until it was turned off!
Review 140:Delicious bar food and friendly staff there too!
