Reviews for Royce Hotel

Review 1:excellent location easy to find immaculately clean modern - very comfortable, spacious accommodation staff very helpful and friendly quiet location excellent menu and absolutely delicious easy access to CBD and theatres would definitely recommend to others and stay there again

Review 2:Room service was slow.

Review 3:Great place and location central to city, chapel street and st Kilda with Transport access able to all three areas. Great park and city view'

Review 4:We would like a better selection of popular and recent movies to choose from.

Review 5:We liked the bathroom, sitting area, package including Chandon, breakfast and late checkout. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Proximity to the city and restaurants was ideal. Easy parking on weekends was also a plus.

Review 6:The location was great, an easy walk into the city. The room, 221 was spacious and well appointed. Excellent value for new years eve, $239, incl breakfast.

Review 7:Wished the menu available for late night snack had more variety.

Review 8:Loved the architecture of medieval times combined with the eclectic taste of decor it worked well together. The boutique style hotel is favorite.

Review 9:Location was brilliant, a few minutes walk away from Botanic gardens and the Shrine and a leisurely stroll to the CBD. Room was spacious and clean and staff were professional and courteous.

Review 10:My family stayed there recently and we loved the staff who were so friendly and enthusiastic. The hotel is quite well maintained and has a fabulous location.

Review 11:Wouldn't say this was 5 star - struck me more as business hotel standard. No pool, spa, front amber room bar wasn't very flash, few TV channels. Nescafe sachets!

Review 12:Quiet room. Very clean. Good location - can walk into the city

Review 13:Maintenance of room not good. Spa not working. Refrigerator was noisy and had to be shut off to sleep. Restaurant was closed on a Sunday night leaving no option but to go into the city.

Review 14:Easy access to city and Southbank by tram.

Review 15:We had a very rude lady check us out. She served a customer that came after we were waiting for at least five minutes. She didn't bother apologising and was then rude with the rest of her dealings with us.

Review 16:This is one of our favourite hotels. We have been here a few times and it's in a great location and is the last word in luxury. The pricing is normally great and the restaurant attached to the property is really nice. The staff are normally great, but it wasn't the experience we had this time. Would definitely stay here again — as long as the crabby and rude staff member wasn't on duty.

Review 17:Booked in for a 2-night stay. Front desk welcome was very poor - we were shuffled between two staff who both interrupted their involvement with our check in to answer the phone and one call appeared to be a personal one. The so-called valet service involved initially being asked to unpack our 5 bags in the rain on the street outside until we complained and then we were allowed to unpack in the basement car park. Was allocated a non balcony room for one of the two rooms despite having booked a more expensive balcony room for special overseas guests in the party and also being charged for the balcony room in the pre-booking. After standing around at the third floor lift entrance for a while, a balcony room was eventually allocated on another floor but it had no chairs on the balcony, unlike the adjacent balcony rooms. When we asked for chairs, two old, half broken, rattan chairs were offered and when we objected, two uncomfortable, steel and vinyl padded chairs were belatedly provided. A bottle of sparkling wine was then sent up by the manager as appeasement, but only junior staff came anywhere near us. The two rooms for our group were allocated to separate floors even though the room next to the balcony room eventually provided was vacant and could have allowed us to have been conveniently adjacent (no one suggested this and we were fed up with the poor service by this stage and so did not raise it). Poor shower drainage meant that water accumulated outside the shower area and soaked any towel mat left there. Every hotel has a bad day, but there were too many things going wrong here for a so called 5-star hotel. Definitely 1 star service which belies the room rate. Would not stay here again.

Review 18:Good buffet breakfast and location near tram stops on St Kilda Rd

Review 19:No free wifi which just doesn't make sense in this day and age - all the less expensive hotels offer it! Uncomfortably overfilled pillows - a choice of a flatter one would be good.

Review 20:Friendly staff, nice walk from town past Botanic Gardens to hotel.

Review 21:Noise from a Christmas party in the ballroom opposite was absolutely ridiculously loud. Have never, ever experienced noise to this extent in a hotel. Rooms very poorly insulated. Quality of the room not close to 5 star rating.

Review 22:Checking out and leaving

Review 23:first day of our stay my husband wanted to make a cup of tea later in the evening. the tea pot had not been cleaned or emptied form the previous tenants of the room. we requested our room to be made up while we wet down for breakfast. we expected the tea pot would have been cleaned but this did not happen. we asked staff to please change the tea pot and explained to them it had not been done as per above. the other disappointing thing was were next to the store room so much disturbance during the day and door opening and closing was not a good stay for us. we will come back as we like the hotel we have stayed a number of times before this last stay.

Review 24:easy access to the city and the environment of the hotel food and bar was excellent, all the staff were very friendly and prompt with room service.

Review 25:Non private balconies! Unpleasant to watch girls on balcony partying naked in bathrobes! Bed lumpy & uncomfy! Dish closed for dinner! Couldnt get a massage or info on tv & couldnt upgrade to spa room...upon enquiry was told half hotel rooms were still dirty!

Review 26:Nice rooms complimentary drink & lovely breakfast

Review 27:Standard room facing St.Kilda Road extremely outdated. Smelly, bed kept moving away from the wall and I had a cold shower in the morning.

Review 28:Comfortable pillows

Review 29:Room lighting a little tricky - separately controlled reading lamps would be appreciated & perhaps brighter lights over bathroom mirror for applying make-up - currently quite shadowed.

Review 30:Seamless check-in with helpful & courteous staff anticipating our needs for valet parking & assistance with luggage. The room was spectacular, breakfast great - would definitely stay again.

Review 31:The "hot" part of the breakfast buffet was not very well heated.

Review 32:Breakfast was a lot better than expected for something included in room price. Room was very nice and a good price. All round great experience.

Review 33:Noisey hard to operate air conditioning system needs clear operating directions with a simple on off switching not via in cupboard main switch board. Bathroom lighting very dark needs brighter globes installed . out door baloncy furniture badly weathered damaged needs immediate replacing appallingly and very dangerous condition. Breakfast at in house "Dish restaurant Self service bread toaster conditionaly burns everybody toast . Need to be replaced with automatic fool proof toaster. Has been been a problem for at least 6 months . Management have done nothing about it to date In room Mini bar pricing to high needs realistic pricing to be used .?some mould in shower grouting lines

Review 34:Bathroom shower not great, shower and toilet in same room was annoying

Review 35:Friendly front desk staff, cocktails at bar, room service, comfortable bed, decor

Review 36:This visit only - the front of house didnt seem happy and certainly did no more than necessary.

Review 37:An excellent location and staff on the whole are very good. Housekeeping and in house dining terrific. WE are a regular customer of the Royce over a few years and always enjoy our stay.

Review 38:Nothing to dislike about this one. All good.

Review 39:Location and parking were very good. The breakfast was up there with the best. The price was excellent for the room and hotel although a longer stay would have us looking for an upgrade to a slightly larger room.

Review 40:Off street parking and the fact that you can't book valet parking. You always run the risk of a parking fine.

Review 41:Love the Royce, very quiet, lovely rooms and great service.

Review 42:The only problem l had was that I have a sleep apnea machine, and there was no power point near bed to plug it into. Luckily cord reached across the room to available power point. I did not like the fact that I had a cord running across the room, thought it was a hazard.

Review 43:The friendly staff and the comfortable room. The breakfast buffet was excellant, catered for everyone food choices.

Review 44:It's on busy St Kilda rd. so if you don't like road noise, you might want to choose a room not facing the street.

Review 45:It's right next to botanic garden, tram stops. The breakfast was good. It has free wifi.

Review 46:No bath in my room, gym was a tad small

Review 47:Staff, facilities and comfort was great!! Second time staying at Royce and again they definitely did not let me down

Review 48:The bath towels were not soft and fluffy. They were hard and scratchy.

Review 49:The beds were gr8. The bath was amazing. Also the late nite dining menu was gr8...

Review 50:Nothing

Review 51:Gorgeous hotel loved every minute, absolutely worth a stay . Nice to be close to the city easy walk but far enough that it feels relaxed. Lovely to go for a lap around the Tan, a must in Melbourne!

Review 52:As always, our return visits to the Royce Hotel are never a disappointment. The staff continue their excellent standard of service, courtesy and friendliness. Royce Rules!

Review 53:Only criticism is that the bed was a touch on the firm side for my liking, others may find it ok but for me, not so! Have stayed in hotels with more comfy beds.

Review 54:Great location, helpful staff and the short welcome back note, as I've stayed here many times now, with a couple of chocolates was a nice touch.

Review 55:Hard to control heating in the room. Bar a little dated.

Review 56:Great v alue for money. Winter package gave us a bottle of wine, complimentary drinks at the bar and buffet breakfast. Meal specials at reasonable prices for guests in the hotel restaurant. Helpful friendly staff.

Review 57:Over heating. Airconditioning/heating was set too high. However this was addressed the following day.

Review 58:Boutique hotel, excellent location, rooms were well appointed and no street noise.

Review 59:Just the clock was 15 minutes slow, nothing major.

Review 60:Clean, comfortable, easily on par with or better much more expensive hotels we have stayed at in Melbourne. Great location and loved the free street parking on the weekend. Definitely stay again.

Review 61:The bed was an actual queen or king bed (unlike some hotels that push two singles together). The room was lovely, we had our room cleaned by staff, the in room dining was decent, and the dish restaurant and amberroom bar on the bottom floor were particularly elegant.

Review 62:The bath towels were rough. The staff on reception were poor on one shift. The tea was poor.

Review 63:The pillows and bed were wonderful. The location was great.

Review 64:Took 3 attempts by staff to get the TV working A convention room just outside our room everyone could see in when you opened the door noise from the meeting started at 7.15am Delegates hung around just outside our door all round very poor

Review 65:Service at checkin was fantastic, then to find we were upgraded , our room was beautifully appointed , unfortunately we were in Melb for a wedding so didn't get much time to enjoy the room..would certainly be back..

Review 66:starting from checking in. i arrived at the hotel early. Receptionist, Melissa, told me that our room is not available yet but she will call me when it is ready. i never got a call. Such a poor service. THEN THE ROOM QUALITY IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY. WIFI not free. Most importantly, in one of our room there was water leaking from the ceiling and my boy his all clothes and bag were wet. i was shocked to see that. air conditioning system was very cheap and bad standard, couldn't see what was on the screen. I had to pay in full for my rooms. it has ruined my night and they say they are five stars.

Review 67:nothing

Review 68:what l especially like this time was l accidently booked for the wrong night through booking.com and the hotel manager changed our date without a penalty. Not many hotels would do that.

Review 69:Paid wifi, cost of parking, the toilet located in the shower was a bit odd.

Review 70:The hotel was in a great location. The overall look of the hotel and room was fantastic. The bed was extremely comfy and My partner and I didn't want to leave!

Review 71:on arrival we are given two complimentary drink vouchers for the bar, later that day we go for a quick drink before heading out. I but a beer and ordered a capriosca, but the vouchers although having 'no' conditions on it nor were we told of any conditions, was not covered. It would not have been an issue at all if say I was told it was only good for a beer, wine or even a standard drink. But it had no conditions attached. So It started the whole weekend off wrong, simply because the hotel didn't do what it said it would do, two comp drinks...

Review 72:Parking fee was high, no free wifi. $50 security payment that takes 5 days to restore to card. Charging card that I used to put deposit on for full room fee when I explained my husband would pay with his AMEX when we checked out.

Review 73:Location, pillows, room size

Review 74:in-room entertainment. TV was not correctly tuned. in-room movies are excessively expensive and internet too. I don't know why in Australia they overcharge for internet, this is a constant everywhere.

Review 75:overall, very good, there's almost nothing I didn't like,

Review 76:The towels could be plusher

Review 77:The comfort and relaxing atmosphere. Professional and friendly staff. Great restaurant and lounge. Location between the cbd, st kilda and chapel st.

Review 78:No hot water for a shower at 8.30 in the morning. It's a 5 star hotel don't tell customers it's because of the time of day! Fix it ! TV didn't work. Money held from my credit card was not adjusted for 3 days after I had checked out and I had to ring the hotel to find out what was going on.

Review 79:Beds comfortable as were the pillows. Location is good. Price very reasonable Buffet breakfast was ok

Review 80:Couldn't fault a thing!! It's fabulous!

Review 81:It was completely luxurious! Bed was so comfortable! Would recommend to everyone! Thanks for a lovely stay!

Review 82:What pays more orther 3-4** when you can 5** and cheap. I like everything in Royce Hotel especially happy hour at the bar and spa in room. Big bathroom, spaces, comfy bed and clean. Perfect hotel

Review 83:The location in close proximity to the Botanic gardens and access to the city is excellent. The room design , decor and comfort was also of a very high standard . We also enjoyed our visit to the bar .

Review 84:Parking was reasonably well priced but would have been great if it was included in the stay . I loved it so nothing for me to dislike.

Review 85:Welcoming approach on arrival , beautiful grand entrance and tastefully decorated. The rooms were of generous size also the bathroom was spacious. Vouchers for after dinner drinks was a nice bonus and our breakfast offered a great variety to choose from. Loved it!!

Review 86:the food downstairs and for in-room was a little ordinary. Though the surrounding suburbs including South Melbourne and city offer more than enough quality options.

Review 87:Grand but modern. A great space in the room, good lighting, clean, included all the basic and luxury facilities I required for a short stay.

Review 88:Location, cleanliness, lovely rooms and amenities, friendly staff , efficient check in and out plus little extras offered to all guests. Relaxed atmosphere.

Review 89:The staff were very rude when I said I don't have a credit card I only use cash, I was treated like a poor person like I might steal something in the room and was asked to put a deposit down, I felt very low.

Review 90:Gym was...not good. Had to go to the park next door for a boxing session with a mate. Trying to catch a cab is impossible after 8... need to cross the road to the police HQ to get one.

Review 91:Staff and room was good

Review 92:The hairdryer was outdated and wasn't working. I had booked the room as a last minute deal and felt the room reflected this. Nevertheless, the staff were fantastic and location cannot be compared.

Review 93:The bed was so comfortable and staff could not do enough for you.

Review 94:Balcony is open with other room balconies - small wrought iron barrier between but no screens/privacy. No information about public transport stops etc or information on the hotel surrounds. No minibar menu in our room, so didn't know any prices - didn't use anyway.

Review 95:Very quiet, but the doors could be loud closing. Great bed and sleep quality. Good value considering the astronomical accommodation prices for the weekend we stayed. Didn't eat or drink in restaurant or bar though. Very nice furnishings and fittings. Would definitely stay again and hope we could stay cheaper - Melbourne was almost completely booked out the weekend we travelled.

Review 96:Wasn't informed of function in room adjacent to our room until I arrived and checked in. Would've been nice to know at time of booking, via email or phone call from hotel. Function band was loud but did finish on time suggested by reception staff.

Review 97:Location was okay, easy to park in area, easy to get to.

Review 98:Great layout of room with a good sized balcony to sit out on and enjoy a little sun. Room was well equipped with everything and the bed is so comfortable. Rooms very well sound proofed, had a ball taking place on floor below our room but couldn't hear that or people next door at all. Highly recommend a bathroom with a spar tub. Bathroom was also well equipped, very clean. We both agreed this is our new favourite little place for a weekend, to just disappear and totally relax in Melbourne. Icing on the cake was the very helpful staff. Thank you to them. We will be back again to the Royce.

Review 99:TV in bathroom is mounted to high... The purpose of it above the spa is to watch the tv.... but you can't see the picture....

Review 100:Spa bath... study nook. Ambience.

Review 101:Weeds and cigarettes in gutters outside our window - not very appealing! A larger bed in room 508 would be better as we are both tall and the room could tolerate slightly larger. Also, mattress's should be turned regularly for better overall wear - slight slump in ours!

Review 102:Convenient location, and quiet on the Saturday night. Ability to walk to various city, botanic garden highlights is very amenable. All the staff were pleasant and welcoming. We would stay again when coming to Melbourne from the coast.

Review 103:One staff member at reception with poor attitude and not suitable for a customer service role. Current road works at the entrance made entry and exit unpleasant.

Review 104:Comfort and décor excellent. Beautiful interiors. Most Staff were very pleasant and provided good service. Staff at Dish Restaurant were absolutely excellent. Highly recommend this venue.

Review 105:The lady with the purple hair could not have been more rude or unhelpful if she had tried. Totally uninterested in helping or providing a smile.

Review 106:Room was pretty nice! Design layout of shower was different, though.

Review 107:I couldn't get the TV to function

Review 108:Quite comfortable rooms at a location that's great if you have doings at the Alfred Hospital. Rather stylish all round.

Review 109:Even though we paid $295 for the night were were told we wouldn't be able to stay because we do not own a credit card and they required credit card details. You must cater for people who do not want to become in debt. Items missing from the fridge and room notified staff immediately as not to be charged for items missing 2 x 1 hour Massage booked was cancelled due to not having credit card, we only had cash. What a sad sad world we live in that people have to go in debt to stay anywhere these days

Review 110:Staff were a little short with us at times and we weren't informed of 25 dollar valet charge until checkout. Added a little blemish to a perfect stay.

Review 111:The room was great and beautiful hotel in general. Nice and quiet.

Review 112:Room service was really slow and at the weekend the only breakfast choice is the set price, no al a carte, which is very expensive if you know you aren't going to eat much. As the location is very much in the business heart local cafes were shut which meant the hotel had the monopoly and they took advantage. The staff were polite but not overly friendly and often slow in food areas.

Review 113:The room was great, clean, comfortable and stylish with a lovely bathroom and extras like hairdryer, toiletries, iron and carefully planned wardrobe with internal lights. The standard of food was high. Location great. Good points outweigh bad.

Review 114:The room location, room 223, in the conference area was very odd. Room lacked a 5 star feel. Doubled up as a meeting room, i guess when the venue has a large conference.

Review 115:The restaurant.

Review 116:The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was very nice, with a very comfortable bed and for where the hotel is situated it is so quiet. All in all it was a great stay.

Review 117:Wonderful staff. Great location fabulous value

Review 118:N/a

Review 119:Very accomodating to our needs - emergency stay due to family member being admitted to the Alfred

Review 120:The bed was too soft. They charges for WIFI.

Review 121:The room and the view were fantastic. Room fees included breakfast.

Review 122:seems that we were upgraded

Review 123:Morgan at the front counter was fabulous. Thank you.

Review 124:No

Review 125:Continent with traffic place

Review 126:All was great

Review 127:Everything
