Reviews for La Medusa Hotel & Boutique Spa

Review 1:O very nice place only few km from Pompei. Hotel, garden, facilities, everything was perfect. A special note to the staff, very friendly and helpful.

Review 2:The property is huge and the main building wonderful -although old stylish- very clean, elegant and comfortable. Unique garden! More beautiful I have not seen. Their Restaurant is a must. Great rooms. What else to say ?! ..Perfect! But very important to add also, is that this perfection is due to their staff. High professionalism - especially the ladies at the reception Ervinia and Manuela. We were super welcomed. Treated like Kings! Every single detailed observed and taken care of .. .. a five stars Service!

Review 3:Absolutely nothing

Review 4:Everything was perfect. Don't let the drive through Castellammare,, when you get to the hotel and turn in through its gated and cobble stoned palm tree driveway you will be amazed. One of the best hotels I have stayed it.

Review 5:Streets outside the hotel grounds (which were immaculate) were grubby and full of litter.

Review 6:Outstanding hotel and staff, thanks Maria Lovely food and restaurant

Review 7:This hotel is fantastic and I guess a stay there would have cost a fortune if the location had been closer to the Amalfi coast and Sorrento. A car is necessary. Otherwise the feeling is one of luxury.

Review 8:Rooms little bit outdated

Review 9:Very good hotel with excellent staff and very good food. Excellent facilities. Quiet location, beautiful gardens. Excellent for visits to Pompei and amalfi coast.

Review 10:It was best hotel with 40 years old beautiful garden I've ever been in south Italy.Everyone was so kind and sweet in La medusa hotel.I had a room with upgrade.the junior sweetroom was so clean and nice.I heard they alwasy do renovation every year.I very wish I could visit La medusa hotel next year again!

Review 11:Hotel looking and feeling quite dated; isolated

Review 12:Nice staff who were very helpful with recommendations for day trips; kids loved the pool; we were upgraded to a bigger room to fit us all - which was nice

Review 13:Restuarant was pretentious and a little over priced. Since the property is a little isolated not a lot of dinner choices withpout driving or taking a taxi. Locationis is between Naples and Sorrento so you have to drive or cab it to do anything...

Review 14:The staff was simply fabulous especially the front desk! Beautiful hotel with georgous gardens and landscaping. Everything was in top shop from the rooms to the pool to the outdoor bar lounge (was awesome).

Review 15:No bad experience.

Review 16:Fantastic Hotel, the gardens are amazing creating a great feature for the hotel. The staff were excellent, very professional, happy, friendly and attentive. Loved our stay.

Review 17:THE FOOD WAS BELOW THE STANDARD YOU WOULD EXPECT AND WE DID NOT LIKE BEING ASKED FOR CHRISTIAN NAMES BY THE SERVING STAFF, THE EN-SUITE IS IN NEED OF REFURBISHMENT AND THERE WAS MOULD GROWTH AND RUSTY SHOWER SURROUNDS

Review 18:THE SETTING AND GROUNDS

Review 19:- Location - No nice neighbourhood nearby. Houses around the area are not of pleasant sight. - breakfast could be better (no omelets, no variation)

Review 20:- Very clean. - Very nice staff. - beautiful garden with lounge corners - Bathroom fully equipped. - Nice views to the sea and mountain. - Good Spa. - Free Parking. - Free Wifi - Good bed and pillows. - Very near Pompei ruins.

Review 21:perfect hotel if you have no expectations of the surroundings or the village

Review 22:Amazing hotel, very friendly and helpful staff, beautiful room, lovely place to relax and enjoy. Just PERFECT

Review 23:The Wi-Fi was quite poor in room and garden unfortunately. You should think of having a little boutique with local products such as olive oil, limoncelo, etc

Review 24:Everything! Beautiful hotel, amazing garden and great swimming pool. Great staff too!

Review 25:Remote location, you would need a car to get to popular tourist destinations or catch a train. Breakfast range was limited.

Review 26:Hotel itself is a wonderful place, beautiful gardens, nice pool, vast and comfortable rooms. Service was very nice and friendly, especially I would like to thank Silvano, who helped us a lot during our trip advising us of the best tours and trips and travelling to Sorrento, Pompei, Amalfi coast.

Review 27:I scored lower only on location and bar prices. If you plan to stay around the hotel location is fine - but there is very little in walking distance. If you're staying for a longer period I'd recommend a car.

Review 28:Amazing hotel with incredible staff. The staff honestly couldn't have provided a more personalised experience. The grounds are beautiful with many places to sit in the sun or shade. The spa is very nice - I had a massage and it was excellent and comparably priced to the UK. We had lunch at the bar which was good, though drinks were very expensive. We did not eat dinner at the restaurant - we went to the "La Brace" restaurant you can see from the gate and it was absolutely excellent. We got the shuttle bus to the station to travel to Pompeii and the concierge gave us advice on how to buy tickets etc. Pool area is excellent too - though not quite enough sunbeds.

Review 29:This is a a wonderful hotel from all aspects. I highly recommend it for all those wanting a luxurious and pampered kind of hotel which is well situated to all tourist attractions in south Italy. We would most certainly choose to stay there again when visiting that part of Italy. Looking forward ☺

Review 30:The employees go above and beyond to make your vacation enjoyable. Happily made reservations for the ferry, bus, tour around the island and chairlift and got tickets for each so we could enjoy our vacation. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Review 31:Shower door could do with a clean....lots of limescale that could be removed quite easily. Food is very expensive and not always hot. unfortunately the surrounding area outside the hotel grounds is not the best.

Review 32:Beautiful gardens. Room nice and spacious, hotel is very nice to stay in and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Would stay here again.

Review 33:Location a little remote, surrounding area poor, you really need a car. The prices of evening meal were expensive, especially for what you got, with no alternative. There is one restaurant over the road otherwise you have to get a taxi into the town or train to Sorrento. There was quite a bit of noise from army and avoid weekends as weddings seem to take place Friday to Sunday.

Review 34:Staff and facilities, the hotel is lovely and set in beautiful grounds. Two treasures of ancient villas just up the road and near to Pompeii, which was amazing. Amalfi coast a definite trip to do. The hotel staff help you plan your trips, and go out of their way to make things enjoyable. Overall a fabulous stay.

Review 35:The dinner meal which is sold as sophisticated, is not tasty and small portions, although not cheap. The waiters do not know English language, although try to be polite. The pool is too small for their number of guests. Around the hotel, the whole area is ugly and dirty.

Review 36:The impressive garden, the accommodation

Review 37:There really isn't much - the WiFi is a tad sketchy in places and, generally, phone reception isn't great.

Review 38:We really loved this hotel and it was perfect for our itinerary. The staff were great, the food in the restaurant sublime and the breakfast adequate. We would recommend it to anyone planning a trip and intending to visit Naples, Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast (especially if by car and taking the scenic routes). The gardens are wonderful and incredibly well maintained.

Review 39:All the staff were excellent and could not do enough to ensure we enjoyed our stay. The hotel was lovely and set in fantastic grounds. The shuttle bus to and from the station was invaluable. A number of tours were organised by the hotel staff for us and advice given for excursions we wanted to do on our own. Two restored 2000 year old roman ruins are within a short walking distance of the hotel and my children found these more interesting than Pompeii.

Review 40:You had to pay for the tiny little 'spa' which was a little mean. The restaurant was expensive and there was nothing 'mid range' for dinner. Pretty pricey.

Review 41:Staff very friendly and helpful, very nice pool, beautiful gardens, and very relaxing experience.

Review 42:This is a marvellous hotel well situated close to all tourist attractions with excellent service and a lovely ambience. We highly recommend it as we enjoyed spending as much time at the hotel as we did spending time at the various attractions in the area.

Review 43:Poor service, except for reception staff and one lady serving the breakfast. The rest of the waiters/butlers, it looks like they just want to get rid of you and go home as soon as possible. They switch off the lights and the ventilator before end of service so that you do not want to spend more time there. They are reluctant to act when you ask something and in the end you do not dare to ask, which happened at the breakfast. We also witnessed, while we had lunch there, that every single table had a mistake with one of the orders! Every single table! One had the wrong dish, we got the wrong wine, a table asked three times or bread, another one had his dish cold, and our neighbours got a nicoise salad without tuna. It was like a joke. The problem is that even in the most beautiful place on earth, when you do not feel at ease, this is what you remember. So therefore I will not go back to this hotel because the general atmosphere is rather negative.

Review 44:Superb place. Nothing to say more : it is a GORGEOUS place! People in the reception are extremely nice and kind.

Review 45:Great setting - felt like we were the only people left on earth! Super pool and spa treatments thoroughly recommended. Dinner superb - especially the octopus salad. It was so good we had booked for two nights and ended up staying an extra night!

Review 46:Surrounding location dirty and run down Unclear which room has which views No cash purchases allowed and no final sum shown on receipts from restaurant or bars so hard to keep a track of extra costs.

Review 47:Beautifull hotel with helpfull staff Lovely pool area and grounds Fantastic views

Review 48:Not really its fault, but the area around hotel is suburban: dirty, messy

Review 49:Sublime customer service, this is a little oasis of sunshine, smiling staff and amazing facilities, especially the garden outside!

Review 50:The quality of the breakfast was good but the choice was limited.

Review 51:The views were magnificent, the hotel and pool were luxurious, the staff were marvellous and the gardens beautiful.

Review 52:Nieko

Review 53:Everything!!! Property is amazing. The gardens were incredible. The groundskeepers at the Beverly Hills hotel and the San Ysidro Ranch could learn a thing or two about gardening. The staff was fantastic. Irminia at the front desk, Maria in the restaurant, Vincenzo at the outside bar and Sylvano the bellman all made our stay fantastic. I can't say enough about the staff.

Review 54:It there was a table tennis table it would have given our boys more to do.

Review 55:Lovely staff gave us a fantastic welcome Fine hotel great food Beautiful pool area.

Review 56:Website didn't make clear the shuttle service is only at certain times which was too restrictive. Also was no return shuttle option which meant getting taxis at €10 a go.

Review 57:The hotel and grounds are stunning and the views are incredible. A really great base for travelling around the area.

Review 58:Barman in the garden bar was rude and arrogant, wi-fi could be better

Review 59:Lovely gardens and pool, breakfast excellent, most of the staff were very nice, clean and well presented hotel, good parking facilities

Review 60:Hotel was hard to find even using GPS.

Review 61:The Hotel is like an old Roman palace. Our room had a veranda overlooking the pool and grounds. Room was spacious, staff was friendly and helpful and location was perfect for visit to Pompeii.

Review 62:Lack of footpaths and rubbish lined streets on walk from station. Shuttle bus doesn't have a scheduled return service. Only one local restaurant.

Review 63:Friendly and helpful staff. Swimming pool. Shuttle bus to station

Review 64:Local town was not so nice but a train ride to Sorrento was all it took .

Review 65:Excellent service, beautiful well kept gardens , very stylish hotel. Made to feel special, good food, stunning views over the bay and Mount Vesuvius. Location in town not so great but the hotel staff made sure you always had a taxi available so reassuring .

Review 66:Bed was a little hard. Don't walk anywhere. Take their shuttleservice or a cab.

Review 67:We were backpacking and stopped here as our one splurge on a nice hotel.Totally worth it. They arranged a private tour for us that we requestedat the last minute and they made it happen. Laundry service was great.Breakfast was great. We had to check out before breakfast because of ourflight and they packed us a to-go breakfast! The hotel is gorgeous. Viewwas amazing.

Review 68:First night we just wanted to relax and sleep, but had to put up with loud dance music until 1am!! We booked and paid for a sea-view room and simply didn’t get it – the owners tried hard to convince us it was when it plainly wasn’t, even suggesting it was our fault because of the way we booked it, hmmm. Our room was constantly invaded from outside - light spills in to the room from hallway at night because the doors have large gaps at bottom. This also lets in every sound made from the hallway (shoved spare blanket under door to help, but still got woken up!). Pool & Spa (one of the best parts of the hotel!) close way too early (7pm). The Spa you have to pay for to USE! Restaurant for dinner is not really worth the price, portions are small, but tasty. Breakfast was disappointing every day. Way to smaller selection and to simple for such a hotel. No bacon, no eggs, no sausages. But lots of cakes if you want to start your day with a sugar rush! Room service food very limited.

Review 69:The grounds and common areas are simply stunning. This place is enchanting and worth making a stop here to at least visit during day or early evening. The view from the roof top breakfast area is stunning, with great Vesuvius view. Wait staff are spectacular!

Review 70:Nothing !

Review 71:Perfect hotel, an oasis of calm with wonderful facilities and charming staff.Location was perfect for us, don't be put off by surrounding area, although a car, in my opinion is a must for ease of travel around the Amalfi coast. four star hotel which is better than many five star properties

Review 72:The restaurant is delicious, but there are many interesting, less expensive alternatives either across the street or within a 10 minute drive.

Review 73:Service is excellent, friendly and attentive (especially Erminia and Reda at reception).

Review 74:The evening meal was 40 Euros per person and we had some guests, so it would have been expensive for all of us to eat there. Was not Bar meal option which would have been better for us.

Review 75:The Views from our bedroom window were stunning, we could see the bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius.

Review 76:Would be helpful to have an iron and ironing board provided in the room and a desk to do work on.

Review 77:Very friendly staff that could speak good English. Lovely pool and gardens with an exceptional view over Naples Bay.

Review 78:Staff in the restaurant where we had breakfast was not friendly and welcoming. We felt a burden to the maitre de who was very aloof

Review 79:Hotel has nice grounds and lovely garden Spacious rooms ,nice and helpful reception staff.

Review 80:Though the valley at the foot of Vesuvio is beautiful, the surrounding area is not too well maintained by the city.

Review 81:Very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel offered us a free upgrade. These people are genuinely generous, they offer guests their best rooms in low season, if these remain unoccupied. The garden is wonderful.

Review 82:Excellent facilities, very friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful gardens and excellent views of Vesuvius from our upgrade to a sea / vesuvius view room 305. Great choice at breakfast.

Review 83:Situated in an orange orchard, luxury, friendliness, great food, super pool, not far from all the great spots like Pompeii, capri, etc.... Simply excellent

Review 84:The hotel is hard to reach on foot from Castellammare, including the nearest station (Via Nocera), and there was little life in the vicinity (at least not at the end of October when we were there); in the evening we depended on the good but quite over-priced hotel restaurant.

Review 85:Beautiful view from location in the hills above Castellammare; refined ambience of public rooms and surrounding park; friendly and helpful staff; very nice breakfast.

Review 86:Dinner was too expensive particularly for salad course.

Review 87:Hotel was an oasis of peace in a busy vacation. Staff very professional. Breakfast was great. Appreciated the shuttle service to the train

Review 88:A wonderful sanctuary amid chaotic surroundings. We loved the hotel and visiting the ancient sites nearby but the area as a whole was very run down. The hotel was a beacon of loveliness and really beautiful. The candlelit gazebo restaurant for dinner was particularly lovely.

Review 89:Buffet breakfast was OK without the "wow". Location means that if you don't have a car you need to make full use of the Hotel's shuttle bus. (or a taxi)

Review 90:A Hotel to relax in. Attentive and helpful staff. Restaurant food is excellent. Hotel's shuttle bus was good.

Review 91:Slow drain in shower, old and dirty grout in bathroom. Very musty smell in room. Tiny balcony with broken chairs.

Review 92:Good location, friendly staff, lovely breakfast.

Review 93:We asked for water at 2am and the receptionist said he could not give us because the bar was closed!!

Review 94:Excellent Interior and Gardens. Very Kind staff at check in.

Review 95:Should have stayed longer!!!

Review 96:The hotel was a last minute stop for us and the kids absolutely loved the space in the gardens and the size of the pool. Having travelled for 3 weeks in Italy the surroundings within the actual hotel were very much appreciated.

Review 97:Only continental breakfast available, any cooked items were extra and expensive. Didn't eat in the main retaurant but understand from other guests that it was neuveo cuisean and expensive. Room safe on the floor so need to be on hands and knees.taxi's every where you want to go in the evenings. Would expect bottled water in the room for this hotel.

Review 98:Very nice clean hotel with really nice staff. Lovely pool and nice bedrooms.

Review 99:The location is a problem if you do not have transport although there is a hotel shuttle or taxis which will take you to the local railway station which goes from Naples to Sorrento and includes stops for Pompeii and Herculanum. The nearest town is rather poor and lacking good restaurants (as far as we could find) within walking distance from the hotel.

Review 100:We liked everything about this hotel and its beautiful gardens and pool. It is just as the photos display. The staff are all exceptional and very friendly and helpful. The food was also very good and the dining patio is beautiful. The views of Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples from the rooms and top floor terrace are also quite stunning. Would definitely return to this hotel.

Review 101:Everything in the hotel is perfect arranged. big rooms, very nice swimming pool with various whirlpools, very good and complete breakfast buffet. Nice garden and lounge possibilities. In short staff many thanks for our very pleasant stay and service of 7 nights

Review 102:The only problem I didn't like it that in 7 days , there were 3marriage parties and it was noisy

Review 103:The staf is very friendly and pleasant and we thanks to Antonio( lematre of the restaurant ) and Maria, for taking care about us.

Review 104:The hotel is simply stunning. They have a beautiful outdoor dining terrace and large garden area. The pool is huge and modern. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious. Most of all the staff is absolutely lovely, friendly and helpful.

Review 105:The best location if you travel to Napoli, Sorrento and Pompei by car. There is also a port for ferries to Capri. The hotel invited us to the gala dinner on 14. August, which was truly a banquet.

Review 106:The wifi signal is almost non existent and the machines in the outdoor fitness area (which is lovely) did not work, having gotten wet in the rain. The younger staff members of the rooftop restaurant (also gorgeous) were slightly lacking in proper table and wine service training, but they were so jolly, polite and charming that we really couldn't complain. It is difficult to find the hotel because the main road to it is closed and there are no diversion signs. Sat nav helps!

Review 107:This is a hotel from the grand old days of travel. We received the best ever welcome from Giuseppe, who was smiling in the doorway, opened our car door and welcomed us as if we were family. All the staff were wonderful, the garden is a beautiful tranquil elegant space and all the terrace, pool, bar and restaurant seating is exquisite and comfortable. The pool is large and gorgeous, the hotel is scented with a lovely array of diffusers, reception staff are gracious and helpful. The barman went out of his way to organise a table for our large family (7 people) and provide us with a delightful array of sandwiches for a late lunch after our arrival. In the evening, another barman again went out of his way to find chocolates for our daughters, present them beautifully, and treat all of our girls like young ladies. Despite a wedding going on in the hotel, we felt like treasured guests. A truly special oasis of elegance and calm, perfect to use as a base for visiting Pompeii.

Review 108:Location is not conducive to walking anywhere. Without a car you can feel a little limited in options. The local town is fine, but no real beach. Town restaurants and bars are for locals but we felt welcome. One restaurant opposite the hotel (la brace) was a good find on our last evening.

Review 109:Great pool area Wonderful dining / bars Helpful staff Beautiful grounds

Review 110:The surrounding area like much of the Naples is a little shabby. Had to pay for wifi. Poor showers and air conditioning did not work in 2 out 3 rooms.

Review 111:Amazing Gardens and pool. Very friendly and helpful staff. Really close to Pompeii by Car and the Sorrento coast.

Review 112:The area it is located in unless you speak Italian it is difficult to get around and city like atmosphere. Some of the people are nice but majority dont like Americans and you can sense the disdain.

Review 113:The hotel itself is very nice and the service id good.

Review 114:Too many guests without children. Some commented at the pool if the children played even though they sat close to the childrens pool, This didn+t make it easy for parents to relax and enjoy the stay. Better suited for older children and couples.

Review 115:The pool and the food. The staff in the restaurant. Nice garden.

Review 116:Ignore outside of the hotel and have a fantastic stay!

Review 117:The hotel is fantastic. No complaints whatsoever. The staff are all very friendly and learn your names very quickly but are not obtrusive. Food is great- we were half board. Pool great, cafe bar great. Hotel staff cannot do enough for you! Location ideal if you've got a car. Pompeii close, versuvius 10 miles away amalfi coast not too far, but the hotel recommended boat tour was absolutely fantastic and great value for a long day out! 10/10!

Review 118:The hotel,the grounds,the staff,location near historic sites

Review 119:Meals in main resurant very fussy

Review 120:Super place , super people. 10 out of ten

Review 121:Loved it all

Review 122:Loved the gardens, they were beautiful and you felt hidden from the world. The staff could not do enough for you, lovely and friendly.

Review 123:May be the local town was not as good as we expected.

Review 124:we got everything we wanted and more.

Review 125:Good location to see Pompeii, very helpful staff, great food, nice gardens and rooms.

Review 126:Very friendly staff, excellent food, great value for money.

Review 127:Not the location you would like to go out in.

Review 128:Convenient location to Pompeii if you have a car and brave the traffic.

Review 129:Beautiful views, large comfortable rooms, nice spa, swimming pool.

Review 130:The gym equipment was faulty

Review 131:Beautiful grounds gardens and pool. Friendly service especially Maria the wAitress
