Reviews for Hotel Kaštel
Review 1:The bed was not particularly comfortable.
Review 2:Motovun is a beautiful hilltop town, and the hotel is charming. The views from our room were stunning. Staff were very helpful. The hotel is an old castle.
Review 3:Room deccor is a bit outdated and service a bit cursory in a country that is typically much more welcoming and hospitable.
Review 4:Great location with lovely views, nice outdoor terrace for drinks and dinner. The pick up service from the car park is very helpful.
Review 5:- The view from our room and the bathroom! (We stayed in a corner room.) It was breathtaking. - The staff was very welcoming, helpful and nice. - The open-air restaurant - LOCATION!! :-)
Review 6:Staff are the unfriendly and not helpful at all!! Even answering a simple question was beyond them! Wi-Fi is non-existent Rooms are tiny but do have lovely views.
Review 7:Location and views are by far the best attributes of this hotel.
Review 8:Our room was tiny. Just enough room for a bed, desk and chair. The receptionist was less than friendly. The only other person who spoke to us was one of the waiters on the terrace who was happy to chat to us about the town etc.
Review 9:We were picked up with our luggage from car park and taken up to hotel which was great. View from top was amazing.
Review 10:The light in the bathroom suddenly turned off. We told the receptionist and asked them to fix it. Well there was a handy-man when we had dinner but it happended twice again. And I cannot say we got any excuse. They also charged the wrong price but when checking the bill and argueing they changed it. Breakfast can be much better - no possibillity to sit outside even though the sun is shining. Spa doesn't open before 0 o*clock
Review 11:Small hotel on the hill.... been here before i 2009 that was the reason for coming back but I'm not sure if I do it again.
Review 12:We stayed in a room without any windows at looking out level which was disappointing. The towels were hard It would be nice to have a tea/coffee tray in the room
Review 13:Position - restaurant terrace - lovely in the evening Dinner menu Use of pool and grounds
Review 14:Low water pressure in the room; dinner is determined (you can't choose between a few menues); noise from the main square during the night
Review 15:Location; personnel
Review 16:First we got the wrong type of room. After complaining at the reception we got the right type of room. A part of our booking was a welcome drink and a late check out, but for both we had to ask ourself. For some parts of breakfast we had to ask many times and to wait for. The jam was of cheapest quality. When we left we explained the luggage driver where to drop off our luggage at the private hotel parking space. But he drove to the absolutly wrong parking space because he was uninterested. After two calls to the reception a bored driver droped off our luggage.
Review 17:Very good location in Motovun with good view from restaurant yard. Friendly staff and good quality rooms. A close lockable storage room for bikes. The reception lady gave a good discount for drinks at dinner.
Review 18:The hotel has very poor Internet we found this most frustrating. Room was rather small and really needed air conditioning. Tricky to park (customers should be warned about access).
Review 19:Very good hotel. Waitresses brilliant. Room clean. Generally helpful staff.
Review 20:The room
Review 21:Excellent location. Good value for money. However, dated small rooms with hard beds and no AC nor decent curtains. Good Spa but mediocre breakfast. We had cold water in the morning in our douche.
Review 22:No A/C in the rooms which was hot during our stay. Staff did their job, but not friendly. Room was a little dated.
Review 23:In the heart of Motovun with a great pool for travelers.
Review 24:Paid extra for aircon but it was ineffective. Wifi didn't work anywhere! Breakfast was poor quality food, juice and coffee. Restaurant staff grumpy and unhappy (young ones). Mattress and pillows cheap and uncomfortable.
Review 25:Reception staff, pool and evening meal
Review 26:It was very hot that day, and i couldn't sleep more than 3-4hours, because there is no airconditioning in the room. Temperature in the room was aroun 30 degrees. The way from the parking to the hotel is not good, and you cannot pull trolley. You need to carry your suitcses. If you want to enter/exit by car to the hotel, you have to call the reception, so that they open the barriers for you.
Review 27:The hotel is located in remarkably beautiful place. The sight is magnificent and the hotel itself is potentially very good.
Review 28:The owl who hoots all night like an electronic alarm. This time the foot bath to the pool area was not filled. Small criticism but an important one for health.
Review 29:Location is special, views to die for. The staff have always been helpful and cheerful, nothing is a bother. Breakfast is good, lots of variety, fresh whole fruit, fruit salad, sliced fruit, cereals, pastries, bread, eggs three ways, sausage three ways, yogurt, cheeses, pickles, cooked vegetables, just great to suit all tastes. Swimming pool is a decent size and you can lounge indoors or out in the lovely garden beside it. The restaurant is fantastic, food to die for as well as a top selection of wines.
Review 30:Be aware if you have a car you will need to contact the hotel to access the car park in this tiny protected town and my O2 didn't work there.
Review 31:Very special location and a lovely hotel. Enjoyed everything about our third stay there.
Review 32:The only bad experience was our first intro as the driver when we showed him our reg paper pointed angrily to the parking. . . came for us later, slammed our bags at the hotel. Obviously having a bad day but a poor way for first impressions. this was also noted in the review of the hoterl
Review 33:remote location. . . we simply flopped for two days walking the wall and sketching.
Review 34:The staff were OK but I think they could have been friendlier.
Review 35:The location and the views are amazing. The room was lovely, quite spacious with a separate sitting area. We booked half board and the evening meal was excellent with mushroom soup with truffle oil to start, a main meal including local cheese and a delicious pear desert with truffle too. The swimming pool was small but we had it to ourselves so it was perfect.
Review 36:Access by car is a bit difficult. You need to park on the way to the top hill (where the hotel is situatied), so you should call the hotel. Hotel will take you with your luggage by their car.
Review 37:We enjoyed various dish with truffles in the restaurant of the hotel. (Pasta with truffles, sea bass with truffles, beef with truffles.) Local wines are also good. Service was good.
Review 38:Dragon was such a delight and so very helpful. He interacted with us and genuinely cared about our experience in motovun. Reception did the basics but was obviously tired of dealing with tourist. Motovun was a great stop, a 1/2 day is probably perfect.
Review 39:The air conditioning was right underneath our Window and we could only sleep with a closed window. In case of good weather the breakfast terrace is too small for every guest.
Review 40:This little village deserves all attention and the hotel is the perfect spot to discover it. The restaurant has great local food and we were so lucky to get an excellent view over the region from the terrace. The room was very nice with very good view over the valley and over the hotel garden. The parking!
Review 41:At top of hill on cobbled streets. Okay for us but would not suit those with arthritic knees.
Review 42:Peaceful location with lovely panorama views over the valley. Excellent breakfast and comfortable room. Charming restaurants and bars within a few minutes walk.
Review 43:If it had been much warmer, it would have been uncomfortable with no a.c. May and early June are the best summer months to go.
Review 44:We loved the view, the ambiance, and the town.
Review 45:Problem with parking - make sure to arrange everything in advance!
Review 46:Of course: Location And: Support by staff (llike getting into Motovun by car)
Review 47:None
Review 48:staff and location
Review 49:Pool and spa were superb and very enjoyable and the views from the property were wonderful!
Review 50:Position. Excellent views.
Review 51:Best Location Nice Breakfast
Review 52:No air on - unable to sleep Pool not open at 08.00 Previous day's trays not clearef in garden
Review 53:Spectacular location
Review 54:None.
Review 55:Excellent location, friendly staff, good breakfast. Thick walls: good in hot summer.
Review 56:Lack of air condition, mini bar and staff professionality.
Review 57:Tranquil,quiet,peacefullnes.
Review 58:Location. Close to restaurants. Great help in getting parked and luggage
Review 59:Breakfast.
Review 60:Rooms could be warmer in november.
Review 61:The restaurant has great food.
Review 62:Lack of staff involvement.
Review 63:Breakfasts were outstanding!
Review 64:Lovely hotel. Large and comfortable room with a view.
Review 65:Hotel is a bit worn, and breakfast was under par.
Review 66:Beautiful surroundings, good food, friendly staff.
Review 67:This hotel was in a great location in a charming hilltop town. We had a magnificent view from our window looking over the valley.
Review 68:No swimming pool available during our stay.
Review 69:The staff were very understanding when we asked to change our room as the original was very small with no air conditioning. The breakfast was excellent.
Review 70:We arrived late and the restaurant was still supposed to be open and wewere willing to eat anything cold, the women said, oh no we are notserving anymore. This was not the front desk person or ourunderstanding. What was worse is they sent us all over town to placesthat were also closed. We ended up drinking wine for dinner and going tobed hungry. We asked the night man if there were vending machines orcrackers or anything the hotel could help us with(we were willing topay) he said nope. So we asked if there was anything at the bottome ofthe hill he said I have no idea. Not helpful and staff(the overnight manand restaurant). Went to bed hungry and frustrated.
Review 71:We arrived after 6:00PM and the shuttle from the parking lot had stopped running and we had to drag our bags 300m up a hill. Not the end of the world, but would have been nice to know about.
Review 72:Generally helpful staff. Very nice restaurant. Good rooms.
Review 73:Difficult to get to with a lot of baggage as there's a bit of a walk from the parking lot.
Review 74:Great family run hotel. Very relaxing environment. Fantastic location at the top of a medieval hill town. Wonderful pool and Spa.
Review 75:Our room smelled like an ashtray when we entered. When we conplainedand kindly requested another room the receptionist told us that theentire hotel was smokefree and fully booked, so he could not help us.Finally he gave us An airfreshner to soften the pain. During ourentire stay the room smelled like a bar. We booked a room with a/cand all we got was a fan. The bed was bad and noisy. The staff wasunfriendly. Breakfast was ok (alot of choice). Overall I would notrecommend this hotel.
Review 76:Unique location and the shuttle provided by the hotel.
Review 77:You do need a car (or bike)
Review 78:many mountain bike routes close to hotel. In the mountains, but 1hr drive from each coast. Craft village of Grozdjan is very close by. Good selectionh of restaurants in village. Excellant views from hotel
Review 79:There is no air-conditioning so when we were there and it was hot, we had to have the windows open at night and there were people in the square outside making noise until the early hours making it difficult to sleep.
Review 80:The hotel has great character, it is a wonderful location, the food is outstanding.
Review 81:Breakfast not very good!
Review 82:Loved Motovun, fabulous historic village for relaxation, and Hotel Kastel excellent. We upgraded to a fabulous 4 poster room for notmuch extra and spa facilities great.
Review 83:Who would not want to stay in an old castle for a night? The hotel is at the top of the hill and the views are amazing. We used the pool which is very nice but did not have time to book their spa package. There are a few nice restaurants nearby but we chose to eat at the hotel restaurant and were not disappointed. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return again someday. If you have a car, you can drive up to the top and parked 50 meters in a parking lot near the hotel. If the lot is full, you can park in the lot below and call the hotel. They do offer shuttle for those who do not want to climb up steep hills to the hotel.
Review 84:Staff rather cool on the contrary of most hotels in Croatia. Bad information about the ferry to Cres island.
Review 85:Nice location at the top of the little city, quiet, comfortable room, restaurant good for his price
Review 86:We missed freshly pressed orange juice and wider selection of wines by the glass. Charging for orders in the pool was unusual. Extra charge for sauna is unnecessary, but the choice of tea and fruit is fair.
Review 87:We liked the room and breakfast. Excellent wellness with good massage. Excellent breakfast.
Review 88:Do not order pedicure and manicure in SPA of this hotel - it's non-professional because of absence of necessary equipment and instruments. Otherwise massage is very good.
Review 89:Location, magnificient view, good restaurant, friendly staff.
Review 90:There was an alternate music festival on the nearby town square, which we could have done without. Our room was shielded from the sound, but having the stage setup and portable chairs clogging the medieval square eliminated its charm. Not the hotel's fault, just unfortunate timing.
Review 91:It's the only hotel inside the walls of medieval, hilltop Motovun. We had to park about 300 meters down from the city gate, but the hotel shuttle came to pick up both us and our bags. The ride up and down is an adventure, as there seemed to be inches to spare as the driver navigated through medieval gates and over irregular cobbled pavement. Dinner at the hotel was excellent, and the restaurant itself has a very nice ambience.
Review 92:Hotel Kastel has improved over the years I have been going. They have modernized the rooms and dining area. The breakfast was decent although instead of sausages you do get the Croatian proverbial wienies. Good staff, professional, clean. Excellent place to stay!
Review 93:Staying in the old town. The view from hotel and town walls. Being able to drive most of the way up the hill and then after parking the car we called the hotel and a van came and collected us driving the last part up the hill. The meal was very good and so was the breakfast.
Review 94:The room was tiny and had no air conditioning which made it impossible to sleep Food in the restuarant was just OK nothing amazing.
Review 95:It is located in the beautiful mountain top village of Motovun The scenery was amazing Spa treatments where OK and reasonably priced. Check in staff was very helpful
Review 96:There is no air conditioning in the rooms. Croatia is quite hot in the summer (100 degrees midday) and AC is a good idea in July and August. But because Motovun is elevated, and there is a good breeze on the top of the hill, the night was fairly comfortable without AC. Also, be prepared to walk on slippery cobble stones all over Croatia. The roads in Motovun are slippery, narrow and steep, but the hotel has a shuttle van which will pick up you and your luggage. If you have a private car, email the hotel before you arrive so they can reserve parking for you 150 meters away. Tell the folks at the bottom of the hill that you are staying at the hotel so they will allow you to drive up to the higher parking lot.
Review 97:The view is fabulous! It is located at the pinnacle of a hilltop walled medieval town. There is a lovely garden in the back, an indoor pool on the ground level, a spa, and an outdoor restaurant in the front. The town is small and charming. I suspect that most of the rooms have great views. This is a good place to stay two nights - one day to relax and enjoy Motovun, the next day to explore the towns of Istria. You can comfortably tour Porec, Rovinj and Pula all in a day (by rental car) and still get back in time for a nice dinner in Motovun. The food is excellent in Motovun - it is in the truffle region. You can buy truffles and olive oil infused with truffles at very reasonable prices in Motovun, in the little shops just below the hotel.
Review 98:No air conditioning, also not impressed by the breakfast.
Review 99:Location, a wonderful setting. We were in the executive room which was large, comfortable with a lovely balcony which overlooked the square and countryside.
Review 100:The room was small. It was very difficult to negotiate the road up to the hotel, although if we had had a cell phone, someone would have been willing to drive us up. Once there, we found it best to simply stay parked instead of the day trip we might have planned using the hotel as a base.
Review 101:It is in an exotic locale. The restaurant serves excellent food and the best wine we have had. The pool is lovely and comfortable. The views from the castle are romantic. It is lively during the day and quiet at night. The staff speak English.
Review 102:Poor explanation of how to access hotel car park, where to park & how to get luggage up to hotel if you aren't able to haul it over cobblestones yourself. It would be helpful for visitors to get exact instructions from hotel in advance.
Review 103:Great location for visiting Istria, providing you have a car. Beautiful location , on top of a hill, great panoramic views. Fantastic historical site. Hotel pool pleasant, massage jets good for sore muscles.
Review 104:This is a higher end hotel. They could have been more generous with bathroom supplies, i.e. shampoo, lotion, tissues, real soap. For the price of the room a complimentary bottle of water per room would have been appreciated...and wifi should be included in the cost of the room.
Review 105:Very good check in services. Attentive staff. Beautiful spacious room with view of piazza below. The location was perfect for seeing the sights of Motovun. The breakfast was good.
Review 106:My room was full of the smell of Pet's urine and number of patches ofstains on the carpet! I got bitten all over my body by fleas badly! Ifinally get used to....the housekeeping would not change the bedsheets on daily! The only ONE computer with no charge is located at lobby! It was very hard to wait till I get to use it, then it was always hard to get on-line tho.

Review 112:very nice Location in the middle of the town, overseeing the landscape outstanding kitchen und good wines excellent spa area with all you want

Review 114:Great views Loved the spa Breakfast was terrific
