Reviews for Alsos House

Review 1:Breakfast option is expensive. Was a bit disappointed with overall as they have such high review scores.

Review 2:Basic hotel. Good location. Didn't use the kitchen.

Review 3:The owner might think about putting a curtain to the windows, so that the room occupants could have some sort of privacy while being inside the room. Simple common sense.Rest all are good.

Review 4:The location - very next to to Mateora rocks, at the beginning of trekking route.

Review 5:I was traveling with 2 of my friends and have been traveling throughout Turkey and Greece for a couple weeks by then and this place was just was we needed. First of all, the staff was great. The place was comfortable and clean. It is located right next to a hiking trail that we took the first evening we arrived to watch the sunset from the top of the mountain. It was a sunset to remember for the rest of my life for sure! We actually stayed up there until 10pm and the sky was clean with very little light pollution that we were able to see the Milky Way and even satellites and shooting stars. The owner of the place was the one to recommend that hike and a few other hikes around the area that were amazing. He also advised us on a couple restaurants within the city that were amazing. And it was always nice to get back to the room after a long day of hiking around to relax and recharge for the next day. You can even do your laundry there, which was awesome given the fact that we were backpacking it during that trip! I highly recommend this place if you're ever in the beautiful and amazing city of Meteora.

Review 6:Breakfast was a little over-priced for what you got, but more than made up for by the price of the rooms.

Review 7:Conveniently located near trails into the hills. Nice, comfortable accommodations with a very attractive outside seating area in good weather. Friendly cats. Hosts were happy to make calls for dining/excursion reservations.

Review 8:The owner was very personable. We had signed up for the day trip to Meteora from Athens. If we had just booked this hotel, the owner would have steered us to the tours and activities in the area for a much more authentic experience. But that's hindsight, we had to get up earlier than the complimentary breakfast was served. We had mentioned this to the owner and that morning the breakfast was available earlier to accommodate us.

Review 9:-wifi was not always working properly

Review 10:-location, very nice view, close to the walking trail, and not to far from the city center. -friendly staff, good welcome.

Review 11:The location is fabulous, we had help with meal recommendations and luggage storage, breakfast was good, and Alsos House is clean and full of character! There is nothing like waking up under the monumental rocks of Meteora!

Review 12:Nothing.

Review 13:In the old town, 10 to 15 minutes walking from the train station. Great view and breakfast. Friendly and help owner. A very quiet and comfortable hotel.

Review 14:Bed was so uncomfortable

Review 15:The location is about 600m from town which was good as you didn't get the noise from the traffic(for a small town it has a lot of traffic on the main roads) This hotel is just at the base of the rocks and a short walk to the path leading to monasteries The kitchen was great if you wanted to cook - we didn't use it as we found too many great places in town. Breakfast was a bit odd - odd combinations Fridge in hallway so you can store food in it Yannis was great - a real character!! Would definitely recommend (and hopefully the bed is replaced :)

Review 16:The room 6, with 4 beds, missed now and then hot water, or it was difficult to fit the temperature of the water.

Review 17:The location under the Alsos Rock, with a special landscape.

Review 18:1. The rooms are little bit small 2. We lived at the top floor, when we have a bath, sometimes hot water is very small, and sometimes the water is cold

Review 19:1. the location is very near from the trail road 2. the view from the rooms are fantastic 3. the owner of the house is very helpful, he can rent cars and contact travel agency according to your requests 4. There is a public kitchen and a public refrigerator, you can use them

Review 20:Our room was located in second floor, and I had to hike the stair case twice to get our luggage up since no lift and there was no one to help with that neither.

Review 21:Location is great, view from room's balcony and breakfast place was spectacular, owner and his family were so nice and friendly.

Review 22:There are several things I really disliked from this hotel: - There was no water pressure in the shower - Very limited hot water in the shower - Bed was very uncomfortable

Review 23:The staff is what makes a stay at this place worthwhile. The family that runs this hotel is amazing, they were super helpful, providing us with tons of information about visiting the area.

Review 24:Absence of gel shower or shampo, and the towels were not changed for second day in our bathroom, but that is a big problem as we divinely we will be back.

Review 25:I will definitely recommend this hotel at it is located near the hiking path to the Meteora. Also the owner Yannis is very helpful and friendly as he give us a map of the region explained to us the must visit monasteries and how to get there whether using the bus or by foot. The apartment that we have been given is very spacious and contain all the amenities (kitchen ustensiles, electric oven)to prepare a delicious meal,we did not have the time to do so as we spent only two nights, and the second day we catch up the train early in the morning back to Athen. Furthermore, the owner Yannis was paying attention to details during the breakfast which was yummy, and my wife really appreciate it. Finally it is a great value for money.

Review 26:The beds and pillows were a bit too firm for our liking.

Review 27:Our stay was short but great. We liked staying farther away from the busy city square for a bit more peace and quiet. The hotel was very clean and modest.

Review 28:nothing.

Review 29:location, location, location!!!. surrounded by meteora rocks. Very nice owner. He recommended a very good restaurant to us for dinner. Great breakfast. Don't miss the Greek yogurt served at b-fast. No elevator, but there is a ramp for luggage.

Review 30:The owner was very pleasant and helpful and the view of the hills of Meteora is fantastic. In fact, if one were sufficiently motivated it is possible to hike up into the hills right from the hotel.

Review 31:Nothing!

Review 32:Yiannis and his family are wonderful hosts with highly useful advice for seeing Meteora. Clean facilities, good bed, and fast wifi, would come here again!

Review 33:The staff were very informative and kind, giving information on visiting churches, exploring the area and restaurants. The location gave stunning views of rocks

Review 34:We extended our stay to enjoy the hotel and amazing area an additional day.

Review 35:It was a comfortable and relaxing facility, right at the base of two of the amazing vertical rock formations and a trailhead to one of the monasteries. Also about 3 minute drive to the town vented with huge selection of restaurants.

Review 36:The place is situated very close to rocks and pathes which lead to mountains. The owner of the hotel is a very pleasant person and always ready to help.

Review 37:What did we like? ALL!!! Rather...We LOVE this place, this trip! :-) The hotel is just below the Meteora's foot path. Lovely views from our balcony. The staff is simply great. They give good tips for directions & the taverna they recommended was really really good. Worth recommending to friends!

Review 38:I'm allergic to cats and they were everywhere, in the breakfast room, sat on chairs, on the stairs, trying to gain access to our room via the balcony. Breakfast was a bit basic but if you're not fussy it's ok.

Review 39:Nice friendly welcome from the helpful staff. Only a few minutes walk from the centre of the town where there were a couple of good restaurants. Relaxed laid back atmosphere.

Review 40:Too many stray dogs.

Review 41:The owner of this property really lived up to his name of friendliness. He went out if his way to accommodate to our needs. Great location and really worth the money

Review 42:No shampoo provided. Heat didn't work at one point but owner tried to fix it and one room was able to heat up. Breakfast included but low quality (processed food). Shower floods whole bathroom if n

Review 43:Proximity to Meteora, very clean, nice looking and new furniture. We were upgraded to an apt with a kitchen.

Review 44:Poor breakfast. Owner kept insisting to take a bigger room and pay for it while there were only 2 other guests there that night. Don't show us the room if you aren't willing to give a free upgrade (which wasn't neccessary).

Review 45:Good location, good WiFi

Review 46:We had booked a double room with view and instead we got a double room in the basement! (with no prior notice). When we complained, the owner moved us to a room with a view, but still the one with the least view, saying that there was a mix up with Booking and also that his father was sick and he didn't have time to look into it. Breakfast was less than plain. Bathrooms in both rooms were mouldy. Bed linen and bed clothes were old and worn out.

Review 47:Fairly good view (most premises in Kalampaka have a view)

Review 48:This is not a complaint, just for information. The breakfast was very simple (bread, egg, coffee, cereal), if you need further variety, I would recommend to bring your own.

Review 49:Very close to the massive rocky cliff, I enjoyed the view from the terrace as well as from my room. The owner was cheerful and always helped me a lot about sightseeing in Meteora.

Review 50:quiet location, ideal starting point for output to monasteries, while close to town. Nice clean rooms, traditional breakfasts. Very friendly and helpful owner and staff, who will share with you about a lot of interesting and useful information about the area and history.

Review 51:The breakfast is very poor, although it gets better if you have it outside with that view There was a column in the middle of the room that made it difficult to move

Review 52:The staff is very nice and the view from the terrace is stunning. It is just a few minutes away by car from the Meteora monasteries The room was very clean and beds are comfortable

Review 53:Some,details to enhance, such as bedcovers, shower courtains, and bit of variety on breakfast bit of ham, fresh fruit .

Review 54:It is very nice place, with excellent views over meteira mountains. Excellent staff especially the young guy nephew fron yanis the owner.

Review 55:This is not a 5-star resort by any means, but what it lacks in amenities, it makes up for in it's location and service.

Review 56:I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone going to Kalambaka/Meteora - great location, right at the base of one of the hiking trails leading up to the monasteries. -Staff was very kind and helpful...at one point he jumped on his moped and drove into town to get us waters because the place up the road was charging way too much per bottle. -Accommodating- they let us leave our luggage at the hotel after we had checked out so that we could visit more of the monasteries before our train departed - Views- the place offered spectacular views of Kalambaka and Meteora.

Review 57:honnestly no negative points

Review 58:welcome hospitality and serviceabilility are very much appreciated after long time tripping.Appartements are simply great!!

Review 59:Not a lot to do other than take in the monasteries...not a lot of shopping to be had. July and very hot (42 degrees)

Review 103:a double bed is a but squishy :)

Review 104:Great host fantastic views

Review 105:Breakfast are poor

Review 106:It was all good as long as your expectations for breakfast were simple

Review 107:The location seemingly underneath the Meteora and the brilliant view from my balcony

Review 108:Construction was happening from 0730-2330 hrs to prepare for the onslaught of tourists in April. Thought it expensive for the quality of other places that I've stayed in in Greece.

Review 109:Location under the Meteora was incredible.

Review 110:My son and I were both impressed with this hotel. It was clean and well run with a good, helpful staff. The view from the balcony was literally breath-taking! The hotel is in a perfect location to take off on the footpaths up to the monasteries. Highly recommended!

Review 111:No staff available when I arrived and difficult to find during the stay (probably a function of the Greek holiday at the time of my visit).

Review 112:Location next to paths - great if you want to walk up to the sites instead of take the tour bus.

Review 113:This is a great family place to stay. We loved the location just under the rocks, at the very spot where they open the big lights in the evening and the rocks look amazing, just 10 minutes walking from the center of Kalambaka. The hotel is also at the beginning of the foothpath for the Holy Trinity and Saint Stephens monasteries. The rooms are great. Our appartment had a kitchen, living room and a balcony and a great common yard where you can sit in the evening or during day to enjoy the view of the rocks. Unique owner, John, who speaks 5 languages, was a great host. Highly recommended for family vacation.

Review 114:The room was very little, but more then sufficient for a short stay.

Review 115:Very strategic position, you can walk and reach a path that leads to two monastery in 5 minutes (then it's at least 40 minutes walking up the mountain!). The staff was very kind and helpful.

Review 116:The breakfast was poor. I missed the cold cuts. The apartment was a little dark.

Review 117:Alsos House is located in beautiful natural atmosphere next to the Meteora rocks in a quiet area. The owner was friendly, the rooms were sufficiently clean.

Review 118:Breakfast was very limited

Review 119:It is just next to the Meteora mountains. The apartment we got was big with two rooms , a big bathroom . The apartment is very clean and beautifully designed There is a big balcony where you can soy and enjoy the wonderful view of Meteora The owner is very nice and welcomed us by playing and singing

The Fine Print
