Reviews for Reykjavík Hotel Center

Review 1:Reception was not staffed and had to wait a while for someone to come down to check us in. A bell on the desk would be useful. Hotel not recognised by Flybus and some other excursion operators so can be difficult to get picked up/dropped off. Would be useful if the hotel could resolve this.

Review 2:Stayed in a twin room with private bathroom. Comfortable beds, warm room and great shower. Room was basic but we expected this for the small price we paid. Free wifi was great. Great value for money.

Review 3:A bit hard to find at first cause the sign was not big enough to see from far.

Review 4:Location is good. Plenty of parking spaces. Room was comfy. Staff was nice.

Review 5:There was a lot of noise from the communal shower room and toilet which was next to my room and I was woken several times every night. The shower doors clattered hard against the wall and the pipes were noisy. I'd use this hotel again if I could be assured of a different room.

Review 6:The bed was new and very supportive and comfortable. Room and en suite were clean enough though a few areas had been missed. Good value for money for a private en suite room.

Review 7:There was a faint smell throughout the building. Could have been just the age of the complex, but it didn't sit well with us.

Review 8:We received a free upgrade just because the room was available!

Review 9:Rooms were not clean - bed sheets were not washed and had hairs in them.

Review 10:Well equipped kitchen allowing guests to prepare their own meals, and a nice communal area to relax in.

Review 11:There was a stain on my sheet, the shower would overflow onto the floor, the room didn't look how it was advertised, it was WAY too expensive for what you got, and there was no real hotel sign making it difficult to find.

Review 12:The staff was very nice and there was a TV and movie collection and a communal kitchen which were great.

Review 13:Cleanliness of showers can be vastly improved. Showers were often blocked, and, or showerheads were faulty, lacking pressure and aim.

Review 14:Rooms and facilities were fair for the price paid. Staff were friendly. ,cleanliness of showers can be vastly improved. Showers were often blocked, and, or showerheads were faulty, lacking pressure and aim.

Review 15:We arrived late, and they kindly upgraded our room from a shared bathroom to a private bathroom. For tired travellers this was so greatly appreciated! Beds were comfortable, everything was clean and easy, and access to buses was no problem at all, either in front of the hotel or just around the corner!

Review 16:We where made to wait to check in as the guy running the place was eating his dinner, and he took his time. We were told there was access to tea and coffee... In a very dirty back kitchen, I had to wash a clean cup. The shower smelt really bad and I didn't trust to drink the water out of the tape.

Review 17:Great wifi, heating and location to town.

Review 18:Not the cleanest of places, the bathroom could do with a good clean. Kitchen wasn't that clean either but we didn't cook so not really an issue for us.

Review 19:Good location, really warm, owner is lovely and very accommodating.

Review 20:The hotel was filthy. Our bathroom had visibly not been cleaned (particularly the bathroom) and the communal 'kitchen' was disgusting. There was a lounge but it was always full of the managers friends (middle aged men) and we didn't feel comfortable in there so we had to eat breakfast standing in the kitchen or carry it 2 flights up to our rooms. The place is insanitary. There only appeared to be one member of staff who kept us awake on our last night shouting, and at 10:00 the next morning I had to call and wake him up in order to check out. The place should be closed down.

Review 21:The location wasn't bad - walking distance from the city centre and waterfront. The room was warm (although no thermostat to control it).

Review 22:My experience at the Reykjavik Hotel Centre was poor. Although I knew this was not a luxurious hotel, what I did not expect to see was a dirty toilet in my room, filled with the previous tenants' dirt. Further, the carpet in the room had white marks which did not give a good impression. Otherwise good budget solution.

Review 23:Kitchen was always dirty, guests were not expected to clean their own plates so left them lying around.

Review 24:Basic cheap room which served the purpose we needed for stay in Iceland

Review 25:Could have been a little cleaner in the bathroom and no stand for the shower head

Review 26:Cheap with comfortable beds, kitchen facilities and good service from reception to help with tours

Review 27:Dirty bathroom, very thin walls, smelly carpet. Kitchen well equipped but dirty. Would think twice whether to stay there again.

Review 28:Got upgraded to a room with a private toilet for both times.

Review 29:Hostel could use more signage to make it easier to find from the road. Currently only as an A4 sheet of paper indicating purpose of building. Nobody at reception on night we arrived and had to be given key by a "friend".

Review 30:Very friendly and helpful staff. Upgraded our room at no extra cost. Excellent location to explore Reykjavík on foot. Nice and close to Hallgrímskirkja and Harbour. Free and available parking close by.

Review 31:Disgusting bathroom with mold growing in the shower. Also the shower curtain hasn't been cleaned in probably 2 years. The room was freezing when I came in cause the heating was off and the window was open. The blankets were covered with pubic hair and black fuzz (which is bad considering the blankets are all white). The reception is horrible and only open when the owner wants it to be. Since I missed the owner I expected to pay the next morning, but instead around 11pm he knocked and then without a pause the used the master key to open my door!! Then when he realized I was awake he said sorry and asked me to come to reception to pay. Also I find it very suspicious that the owner came in that late and said he thought I would be out! I think he might have been there to take something! This is the worst hotel I have ever been to and I will never recommend anyone to go here! It should be removed from booking.com!

Review 32:Good wifi Close to bsi

Review 33:We've booked a shared bathroom but got a private en-suite for both times we were there. The staff is very attentive, informative and very helpful. The place itself has everything you need, the centre is very close.

Review 34:Could be cleaner (anyway, staff offerded extra cleaning if needed). Wifi didn't always work in rooms.

Review 35:Good location, reasonable price (for Reykjavik), helpful and friendly staff (though not always there), comfortable beds, supermarket nearby. There is common kitchen with free coffee and tea. But probably not all the guests understood that food stored in the fridge was private.

Review 36:NOTHING!! EVERYTHING is EXCELLENT!

Review 37:we got a free upgrade to a family room with a private bathroom! The host is quite nice!!!! Thanks for their warm treat!! EXTREMELY awesome experience! I will definitely recommend it to you!!

Review 38:I think it's hard to control the customers behaviour when they were staying but at least they should do something not just let them do that they want.

Review 39:After the receptionist changed my room, it's much better. Because at beginning I booked 6 people's dormitory but the room was awful. No any bed has been set up and full of rubbish on the floor. Then he agreed to change my room that was nicer.

Review 40:Very friendly guy at the reception desk! Took care of us and gave us an upgrade for free to a better room with ensuite bathroom. We would come back. Comfy beds and quite rooms. Good value for money.

Review 41:As shabby and uninspired as it gets! Our room only had the (unstable-looking) beds, one chair and two tiny sideboards. The bathroom leaked water and had no ventilation whatsoever. Neither had the common kitchen, which always smelled horrible. Not to mention the obligatory thin walls. The whole place looks like a cheapskate-converted office building without any atmosphere. Nobody seemed to care about anything, the employees seemed clueless. The front door was always open without locks, the WiFi didn't work for days (then it got fixed). Oh, and we only got two keys for four people.

Review 42:Relatively central (maybe not in Reykjavik terms) and very affordable. Apart from that, the only positive thing were the new mattresses.

Review 43:No tv in the rooms or tea/coffee making facilities . Also the quilts supplied were very thin and not warm . Although the radiator worked well

Review 44:A very quick and easy check in , friendly owner makes the booking in process easy. A good location with approx a 10 min walk to the church and town centre .

Review 45:Poor wi-fi - had to keep leaving the door open or go to the lounge area.

Review 46:Handy to the central area of Reykjavik. Generally clean and comfortable and good for the budget price.

Review 47:There's nothing to complain about actually. This is perfect for a not-so-budget- accommodation.

Review 48:The staff was extremely kind and agreed to add a bed without additional cost and even upgraded us to private room with private toilet! The private room was considerably big given that there were 5 of us. There were also common area(toilet and kitchen) at almost every level! It's really convenient and also very clean! We were also allowed to take any food from the pantry. It helped us a lot especially when the supermarket closes so early here. If I had a chance to visit Iceland again, I would stay here again. It's so value for money!

Review 49:The room was dirty, the carpets were filthy, the shower curtain had mold on it, there was hair on the sheets, the building smelled bad.

Review 50:It was cheap. The cheapest place we found in Reyjkavik for a single room with a queenside bed.

Review 51:Nice place to stay. Private bath room, friendly staff. Is really close to the city center, bus station and a station, where bus shuttle arrive. Munir is really the best! He asked every day if we need something, was very hospital and friendly.

Review 52:The shower isn't hung up so you have to hold it - wasn't a major issue though.

Review 53:Munir was extremely friendly. We booked a twin room & got upgraded to a family room with ensuite for the same price as it was quiet season. It was extremely clean, beds were very comfortable, quiet at night & walking distance to the city. Free parking & good wifi. Loved our stay!

Review 54:Do not have elevator for customers. Although there are only three floors, it is inconvenient to carry the luggage though the stairs.

Review 55:Big room and quiet.

Review 56:No facilities to arrange clothes in the room. With a very small investment this can be solved.

Review 57:Price. Staff hospitality. Kitchen facilities. Heating. Good WIFI (Wireless Internet) + PC.

Review 58:Bed linen wasn't changed for a while ( had to sleep in my sleeping bag), dirty shower, full of hair, small room, staff rather ignorant far away from welcoming. Saying that, the price is relevant. I looked for a cheap stay -found it. 10 points for that. Unfortunately I believe in cleanliness. No matter how basic the accommodation is it has to be cleaned.

Review 59:Location was great. Very near City centre.

Review 60:1. It doesn't have a signboard or its name on the building. So it was difficult to find it. 2. Is not linked to the airport shuttle services, eg Flybus. So we have to go to other hotels to get off and on. 3. The room smells. No carpet was sticky. The bedsheet was dirty. 4. No lift. So if you have few and heavy luggages with you. Good luck!

Review 61:The only advantage that this hotel has is its cheap! That's all.

Review 62:Great overnight stay, friendly staff, very accommodating! Close to Hallgrimskirkja church. Very nice Ruby Tuesday restaurant just around the corner from the hotel. Great value for money!

Review 63:There is no 24 hours reception in the hotel which is quite inconvenient. We hardly see the receptionist during our stay and had to wait half an hour for the receptionist. The tap handle in our bathroom was broken and the toilet flush as well. However, they fixed the toilet flush after we left a note at the reception counter.

Review 64:Very dirty bedroom, linen and towels. We had booked the breakfast optionbut were informed upon our arrival that there was no breakfast inSeptember, and that was a mistake from Booking.com

Review 65:When we booked the room we chose to have also breakfast but at the hotel we found out that the hotel does not have anymore this option.

Review 66:This hotel is close to restaurants and supermarkets.

Review 67:Dirty hotel and staff work when they want to my opinion. Our room was dirty, not clean at all. On our bedclothes was someone's hair. And shower was so clean either.

Review 68:Nothing

Review 69:One night a lot of noise from one fairly drunk person it sounded like.

Review 70:Front desk personal during day were pleasant and willing to be helpful. The room was basic and had essentials: bathroom with shower and bed. No frills. Clean.

Review 71:The personnel was vaccum cleaning at 23h !! The rooms are not very fresh. Many spots.

Review 72:For this price we cannot get better. So it's OK for the price. The guy at the reception was kind. Good location, walking distance to center town. Easy parking place just in front of the hotel. Hotel easy to find with GPS (but watch out : no big sign outside), (only a A4 paper on the door).

Review 73:Was not really located in the "center" of town. I would have appreciated a map on the wall or brochure that showed how to get to downtown Reykjavik.

Review 74:Despite having to change rooms (we arrived early and were exhausted and they put us in a family style room) they made it good with a complimentary breakfast.

Review 75:- We stayed here twice. The first time everything worked out fine, we had a late arrival (after midnight) but we got an e-mail with instructions (key was put in a box with a code, although the instruction was send on the day of arrival, luckily i had access to wifi on the airport otherwise it could have been a surprise). But the second time I did not got an e-mail but we arrived around 21:00 (not that late). But there was nobody there... I needed to call the 'emergency' number, and within 5-10 minutes somebody arrived and provided us with a key, quick solution but that could have been arranged better. - The hot water in this hotel particularly has an odd smell (sulfur-eggy, because of the way it is heated), normally in Iceland you should run the hot water a small amount of time after that the smell disappears, but not here... - From the outside it is not really clear that this is a hotel (nothing on the building, the billboard/letters on the picture were not present when we visit it) Also the airbus shuttle service did not know this hotel, we let us dropped of near another hotel in the same street which was known with the airbus shuttle service. - Don't get this hotel mixed up with the Icelandic chain hotels Center Hotels.

Review 76:Cheapest room we could find in Reykjavík with our own bathroom facility. Quiet rooms. They stored our luggage for free for 4-5 days. Wi-fi is free and works OK, just switch a bit between the available wi-fi spots until you find one that works for your phone ;)

Review 77:Be aware that it might happen that there is noone in the reception when you need to ask something. We would also appreciate little bit more storage place (or at least another hanging rack) in the room as there was pretty much nothing (the rooms are quite small)

Review 78:It was good to sleep inside in a relatively comfortable bed after camping in a cold tent for 4 nights. WiFi worked well even in our room.

Review 79:Advised them of expected late check-in however when we arrived, door was locked and no one was there. Other guests coming out told us to check our email to get the code for the safe holding our key. Luckily we had internet access otherwise would have not been able to access the email! Still no sign of any staff when checking out the next morning, there was a box to drop the key off and later received an email saying we were a 'no show' - I guess so that the hotel could charge the credit card the cancellation fee as payment?

Review 80:Clean and basic room with ensuite. Pushed together 2 single beds to make a double. One bed had a very thin blanket, the other a very warm thick blanket. Kitchen was not very clean, lots of left behind food rotting on the shelves.

Review 81:This is a dump.It is a low class hostel. Staff is not there to help. If you are from over seas then you will have to wait for long outside to get your room number and key.

Review 82:No staff present most of the time. I saw two parties that were unable to check in. They sold us breakfast but didn't have it, although they did refund that portion.

Review 83:Location

Review 84:We had arranged to check in late (22:00). A key was left for us but no room number or other information and there was no one on duty. There was no answer on the hotel phone number. Eventually we got through to someone on an "emergency" number and they came and checked us in. No information was provided about the facilities - kitchen, laundry etc. There was no bedside light and the switch for the main light was at the door.

Review 85:Comfortable, clean beds. We would stay again but ...

Review 86:Staff was okay. Hotel was overpriced for what was offered. No TV, no phone, no breakfast because it was September, no in-room coffee/tea, old room/bedding/plumbing. This is a hostel, not a hotel. Paid $111.00 USD per night.

Review 87:Not too much.

Review 88:There was no name on the front of the building, it is not well known by bus/car hire companies, the floor was dirty, the room was uncomfortably hot when the sun shone even though it was cold outside.

Review 89:It wasn't too far to town, near a supermarket and only 25 minutes walk to the airport bus station.

Review 90:Everything like described, actually even more than i was waiting for! Basics, but that`s all of us looking just for short period of stay in such places.Clean, safe and location not far from the main high street in old Reykjavik old town.So for such a money u paid it`s a REAL DEAL !

Review 91:This is not a hotel. More like hostel with few single/double rooms. No elevator. Ventilation = open the window.

Review 92:When receptionist was "the right person" service was excellent and very friendly, but if there was the wrong person - there was practicly no service at all

Review 93:Misleading of advertisement. It says breakfast is included in Booking.com web site, but it does not offer any meal. In addition, the picture of the bldg on Booking.com is not what you see actually. There is no sign of hotel on the building.

Review 94:Good location

Review 95:More basic than advertised - the room was never cleaned, and furnishings were bed, two night tables and two folding chairs. Seemed more like hostel than hotel. And although advertised as central Reykjavik, it was a some distance from "center" map. None of this would have been a problem if we had known in advance.

Review 96:Very clean room, fairly convenient. Pleasant, helpful staff.

Review 97:Kitchen and common facilities could be cleaner, you can hear noises from the coridor in the room

Review 98:Good location, not far from city center (10 min walk) and bus station (15 min walk), good price for Reykjavik center, good WI-FI

Review 99:Not obvious that it exists - nameboard wasn't there during my stay only an A4 page on the door with initials RHC. Staircarpet looks trashed already - it is clear although the hotel has only been open since June 2015 in its present form it hasn't been entirely refurbished. Not recognised by Flybus and other tour operators - you may end up with a pickup or drop down the road at another hotel nearby.

Review 100:24 hour reception - although the receptionist clearly slept behind the desk and woke up when you pressed the buzzer. Breakfast was ok - not exceptional, and plenty of room at 7:30am. Although considerably cheaper than other places it is a walk out of town, and very basic furnishings. As I had a family room there was plenty of space and towels - no cleaning of room was done during my 4 day stay.

Review 101:This is not a hotel, but a HOSTEL with a private bathroom. Hotel staff didn't show up until 830am, no breakfast provided, no staff overnight, no sign on the building saying that it is a hotel (there was a piece of paper on the door saying "Hotel Centre". No cab driver, nor airport bus is going to know where this is. No television, bunkbeds in the rooms. Looks like a dorm that was being used for a couple of weeks as some sort of ersatz hotel. The price point was way too high for hostel, but the amenities fell far short of even the most basic 2 star hotel. Poorly located as well. Hot water stunk of sulfur (which wasn't a problem with the other place we stayed in Reykjavik).

Review 102:Not much.

Review 103:My booking was saying a mixed FOUR beds room and getting there it was SIX beds dorm. The hostel should be careful when saying the kind of room because the reason why I ended up choosing that hostel instead of others was exactly because the dorm had only 4 beds. By the end of the night was already 6 of us in the room. Not very nice to feel that as a customer.

Review 104:I have to say toilets and beds amenities are cleaner than usual in Reykjavik. Nice staff and good comom areas.

Review 105:When I did the booking they advertised breakfast for about 4 pounds. When we arrived to do the check in it was a note on reception saying they didn't do it and there was only one bakery close to the hotel to go for breakfast. We stayed 6 nights and nobody came to do our room.

Review 106:The shower worked very good, the room is big enough to stay comfortable and the hotel is situated in a quiet area between 15-20 minuts stroll to the town centre.

Review 107:Stayed twice and the first room was quite small but the second time we were given a slightly bigger room.

Review 108:Excellent breakfast. Very friendly and helpful staff. Not too far from the town centre. Free parking on the road. Use of kitchen facilities.

Review 109:This is not a hotel, but an overpriced dormitory. There is no staff at all, you pay the money get the keys and you won't see anyone for days. No cleaning, nothing. Price is ridiculously high. I will never return!

Review 110:- We hade to leave early and the management allowed us to have a "special" breakfast that was particularly good and diversified! - The hotel was quiet and the shared bathroom were not an issue.

Review 111:More like a hostel than hotel. Toilet keeps having this strong sulfuric smell that lingers. Not exactly centre location but still fair enough with 15 mins walk.

Review 112:Value for money.

Review 113:Room not cleaned daily. No staff on duty late evening. Breakfast that was prepaid not available on final morning and no staff on desk

Review 114:Location was reasonably close to downtown

Review 115:The bunk bed in my room swings a bit too much when I climbed up (but it did not collapse).

Review 116:Near supermarket, quiet at night, the triple room is of decent size.

Review 117:We left hotel each morning before breakfast service started at 7.30 am. Receptionist failed to tell us there was a guest kitchen on our floor we could have used! He did however allow us make (our own) coffee in staff kitchen beside reception.

Review 118:Basic but comfortable. Reasonable price for Reykjavik. Easy walking distance from city centre

Review 119:Bad experience, first reception asked me to pay without welcomingproperly. Then when I complained he withdrew the demand.Hotel does not provide anything other than an empty room with bed. Even bath room shower doesn't have any holder and not even showergel was provided and nobody told this in reception. Room never got cleaned during my stay. The picture on booking.com is wrong , hotel does not have any such name board. Hard to find as it looked like residence. Booking.com must verify the pictures and inform the hotel about standard t&c. If the hotel provides empty room with bed , that's not called "hotel". If booking.com has listed , it should ensure the standard. After long time being a booking.com fan , I feel disappointed and I feel like somebody has robbed me. No value for money and deceived !

Review 120:- room was a bit dirty - stains on carpet, spider nets, etc. - sink and shower were almost clogged - very basic breakfast (not worth its price)

Review 121:- good location - we got a room with bathroom even though we booked one without - nice and friendly staff - flexible check-out hours

Review 122:never use 202 and 211, one is near the public washroom very noise.. 211 is too too small...but they are same price. Staff is quite cold.. And a little far from center

Review 123:price

Review 124:Had an hospital feel. Everything in white. The price for the quality of the place. But hôtels are very expensive in Iceland

Review 125:Good location. Very friendly receptionists. Good breakfast, included !! Very rare in Iceland

Review 126:Looks like an old renovated college dorm. Smells the same. But bathroom was ok, so everything else wasn't such a big deal.

Review 127:Good value for money, definitely.

Review 128:It's quite a high price but hotels in Reykjavik are rather expensive.

Review 129:The beds were very comfortable in the double rooms and it is walking distance to downtown Reykjavik.

Review 130:We asked for a room with doublebed and the personal agreed, but when we arrived, there was no possibility to get a room with doublebed. The room is tiny and wasn't clean.

Review 131:The shared bathroom is okay. You only need 15 minutes to the city center.

Review 132:This was very basic. Not even a waste bin in the bedroom. One of the two bathrooms was out of order - not good enough on a floor with so many bedrooms. Breakfast was OK, but kept running out of items.

Review 133:The wifi was excellent.

Review 134:Is not clean and they do not clean the room if you stay more than one day. Pics of the rooms on booking.com do not match the real rooms which are very small, no wardrobe, dirty carpet. Booking.com should not have business with them

Review 135:The location is ok

Review 136:An extended argument between staff over breakfast did not help the atmosphere. The manager did not know how to turn off the fire alarm at 2am. The manager scoffed food from the breakfast buffet without using a plate.

Review 137:OK basic accommodation Allowed early check in
