Reviews for Hotel Clelia

Review 1:Very small bathroom but not that it is a major issue.

Review 2:Welcome from the receptionist was excellent and she was extremely helpful. Free refreshments all day and the fact that there was a kettle with a variety of coffees and tea. Good variety at breakfast. Good working shower. Very close to the train station.

Review 3:Nothing.

Review 4:The location was excellent. The pool was very nice and also the free coffee during the day. Breakfast was very generous. There is a lovely beach 5 mins walk away. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The pizzeria just up the road was also very good.

Review 5:All good except hitting my head in low area of loft.

Review 6:Alessandra was fabulous! Planned our first day which turned out to be great (Portofino). Early departure caused us to miss breakfast so Alessandra had staff pack us a breakfast to go.

Review 7:Nothing

Review 8:We want to drive to Cinque Terre, but we just had bad experience in Bacelona about car park, so parking in a secure and safe place is very important to us. This hotel is perfect location, it saves us lot of time to drive to Cinque Terre (we from Genova side), also avoid to drive in narrow, tricky montain road, frightening ! We booked the last room of the hotel, it's a attic room , so no balcony no view, only a window, but it's quiet, big(compare to tipical Italian hotel room) and very clean. The breakfast is very good, with wide range selections. I like the orange juice machine, fresh juice is good start for the morning! I didn't try swimming pool because it's few minutes to the beach! And it's also few minutes to train station. 15 minutes we can reach Cinque Terre. Another advantage is restaurants in this town are much cheaper.

Review 9:If you arrive later for breakfast a bit sparse and only one person stocking up, clearing up and washing dishes. Needs a little assistance to prove this experience.

Review 10:Hotel very cosy and owner delightful. Our stay was made very comfortable and nothing too much trouble. Food in resturant excellent quality and value for money.

Review 11:The hotel was noisy at night. We had a room at the back where on a couple of nights there was a dog barking, and a blind banging. At about 6.30 in the morning the staff preparing for the day are also quite understandably noisy. We could also hear the next room when they went to the loo or had a shower, as they could us I suppose! The pool is in the shade most of the afternoon. Also the promenade is in the middle of a make over, it seems very rusty so not been any recent action. Would be lovely if this was finished, not that this has anything to do with the hotel.

Review 12:Loved the hotel with the train and the beach just 2 minutes walk away. The staff were great but one was exceptional. Without Alessandra we wouldnt of had such an amazing time at this hotel. She is a fountain of knowledge, knows where to go, what time the trains go, where to eat etc etc. She also seems to be able to speak every language!! Big thanks to her for advising us on beautiful places to visit!

Review 13:Hotel staff were always pleasant and very helpful. The food was excellent with a extensive menu. The atmosphere was relaxing and comfortable. We would be happy to return.

Review 14:The restaurant staff was absolutely unpleasant and barely wanted to take our orders. The food was good, but I didn't want to return to the restaurant the second night due to the service.

Review 15:The front desk lady was super nice and helpful. Very friendly!!

Review 16:Don't give tip to the waiters, some of them become so friendly that is already irritating. The town itself is not too interesting.

Review 17:The rooms with balcony are very nice, the swimming pool is also good, plus the hotel's restaurant was the best we found in town. The hotel staff (other than the waiters) were friendly and very helpful. The villages in Cinque Terre are very close by train and boat.

Review 18:The rooms are a bit noisy, but it did not disturb my sleep.

Review 19:Very good breakfast/dinner and location as it is close to the sea and Cinque Terre. The hotel is an old building but they managed to get the max out of it.

Review 20:It would be great if they'd install screens on the windows. Our room was pretty small, and the bathroom was in need of some work (ventilator fan didn't function, and the complicated shower fixture was in need of maintenance).

Review 21:I think it's a family who runs the hotel, and they and their staff were all unbelievably friendly and helpful - they speak Italian, English, German and French (at least). The location is perfect - 5 minutes by foot to the train station with regular trains to Cinque Terre, 5 minutes or fewer to the (very nice) beach and a nice pool (open until midnight!), to boot. Great base for exploring Cinque Terre and the Ligurian coast. They'll pick you up at the train station at no charge. Did I mention how genuinely friendly they were? They have limited on-site parking, as well.

Review 22:I stayed two nights but really wanted to extend because everything, truly from every aspects, was great!! Especially the courtyard with nice pool and the dinner!!! I really enjoyed up there, definitely recommended!!

Review 23:Only Alexandra speaks English. Communications a problem.

Review 24:Alexandra at reception is a treasure. She is very friendly, helpful and knows her subject. The pool is beautiful and hotel well maintained. Loved the selfhelp drinks in the lounge.

Review 25:Very comfortable hotel with many amenities for guests. My husband very much enjoyed the access to coffee. Staff provided house wine and glasses for us to drink on out patio. Free on site parking.

Review 26:The area around the hotel was a bit quiet.

Review 27:The hotel is in a perfect location to visit cinque terre national park. the personnel was absolutely friendly, wifi works perfect and breakfast was superb, we could leave the car in a parking area and get to the train station 2 minutes walking from the hotel.

Review 28:No negatives. Just need to note that reception opens at 8.45 am so if you are planning on an early train and buying train tickets factor this in to your schedule. Wasn't an issue for us but might have been for people behind us while we were checking out!

Review 29:Quality breakfast buffet nicely displayed, wide selection of fruit, meats, cheeses and lovely pastries and cakes. Looked forward to breakfast and enjoyed 4 morning's worth, just right to set you up for each day's adventure. Juicer! Coffee machine. Sit where you like with convenient times to eat. Helpful staff at reception and all cheerful. Quality kettle in the room, take a few extra tea bag selections to your room from breakfast table if you like and ask for little jug of milk from the bar area. Quality, wide range of choices on menu. We ate in 2 evenings and had good selection of seafood and great handmade ravioli. Large fluffy white towels with shower gels and soap. 1 euro for beach towel, saves on weight in your case. Decent pillows. Glass of wine for aperitif came with small bowls of crisps, big green olives and little stuffed tomatoes, perfect. Great for buying your train ticket at the counter, and strolling down the road for the train to hop on and off to any of the Cinque Terres towns to start your day's hiking. As at 19 September automatic ticket vending machine broken at Deiva Marina so an added convenience. Ideally placed for travelling east or west. Beach the other direction, good for a quick dip but for backdrop looks, beaten by charm of all the others destinations. Interesting Hoover cleans the bottom of the pool and is used as pleasant focal, point to dining in the evenings - and water is 'refreshing'. By the road but felt very private, didn't seem to suffer from that, and lots of tall trees for greenery and shade.

Review 30:Not enough staff on at breakfast time so that sometimes there were not enough cups for coffee or glasses for juice and sometimes the food ran out.

Review 31:Great position, excellent friendly staff, good food at the restaurant. The facilities around the pool were good.

Review 32:Very small shower, a little bit tired especially the balcony furniture.

Review 33:Location was ideal - metres away from the beach and the rail station (which could take you to the Cinque Terre in 15 mins). Pool area was great. Staff very friendly and helpful. And breakfast and restaurant were excellent.

Review 34:Breakfast is quite basic and running out of things by 9-9.15. Also the waiters are a bit grumpy.

Review 35:The hotel is in a lovely location, near the beach and train station. It is only 15 min by train to the first village of cinque terre. The hotel has a lovely holiday feel and staff is very helpful.

Review 36:The pool is shaded by trees on one side so you need to get a bed on the hotel side. The beach is not sand but that's not the hotels fault

Review 37:The staff were very helpful The food was excellent, better than eating elsewhere. The room was quiet, clean and had a lovely balcony. Well located for the beach and trains and being able to buy tickets at the hotel made life very easy

Review 38:1.Wi-Fi was unstable and very slowly. 2. Don't have own beach, but free beach was very good.

Review 39:We spent 9 nights at this hotel. Location of hotel is great. Breakfasts was very delicious. Everyday cleaning. Excellent restaurant with delicious italian cuisine and italian vines. Friendly staff. Very nice private parking.

Review 40:We found the owner to be very rude and off putting. You had better know Italian or she will have no time for you!

Review 41:We loved the pool and gelato bar onsite.

Review 42:The lady who owns the business can be very grumpy, if you dont speak italian. She appears to be over it!

Review 43:Alessandra, office administrator plus plus plus is just fantastic. She speaks four languages and will ago above and beyond to help you. Food was fantastic. Pool was fantastic and rooms excellent..waiter staff also excellent.

Review 44:The location raised doubts on first arrival but the Old Village provides a good balance for the Resort Beach development of this quiet coastal village

Review 45:The hotel, its staff and its facilities

Review 46:The staff were very welcoming, the rooms were clean, spacious and with amenities. The hotel restaurant is outstanding, the menu had a variety of different dishes and the fish and seafood were absolutely fresh and well cooked . Highly recommended

Review 47:Limited restaurants in Deiva Marina and more expensive food than 5Terre.

Review 48:Easy to access 5Terre and Portofino regions. Great pool and facilities. Minibar drinks at supermarket prices. Free international phone calls.

Review 49:Shower

Review 50:Restaurant, neat room

Review 51:Staff especially Alexandria who was very helpful and welcoming. Our lovely apartment when no room available at hotel.

Review 52:Fantastic welcoming staff

Review 53:The staff were very nice and helpful with how to get to Cinque Terre. Great place to stay out of the madness of the 5 villages

Review 54:The town is not very attractive. It has a small and very crowded beach that you get to by walking through a derelict shopping centre.

Review 55:The staff

Review 56:Everything! Beds, breakfast, dinner, staff, the pool, the environment, location...all just perfect. Even dogs are welcome :-)

Review 57:The staff were very friendly and the owner was more than helpful.

Review 58:Prices are a little high. Perhaps due to the season

Review 59:Very close to train station; Nice swimming pool; Good restaurant

Review 60:Fresh orange juice and carrot juice at breakfast, dinner around the pool, free beach service, fridge and coffe/tea facility on the room

Review 61:Excellent pool and lovely food

Review 62:Convenient to access Cinque Terre by train, also good hiking nearby. Quiet peaceful Devia Marina area. Very helpful and pleasant reception staff

Review 63:The room was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was also amazing.

Review 64:This was such an excellent place to stay and the location couldn't be better for visting the Italian Riviera!!!

Review 65:NOTHING

Review 66:Great pool and garden setting. Incredible breakfast spread!

Review 67:Food is unbelievable. Staff is very friendly. Location is great.

Review 68:Whole stay was fab. Staff excellent friendly people/ owners and staff

Review 69:The manager / receptionist Alessandra was always helpful and friendly

Review 70:Pool and friendly/helpful staff :)

Review 71:The pool opens till late and i like it. This hotel is more for older crowd

Review 72:Staff and food

Review 73:Some noise in the room from other guests.

Review 74:A very nice property. We had a comfortable room with a big deck overlooking the excellent pool area. Good parking and a very short walk to the train station.

Review 75:The fish meals cooked in the Restaurant were not so good. :-(

Review 76:Staff were fantastic...very friendly and helpful. Alessandra was an amazing multi lingual concierge who was so helpful and worked long hours with always a smile. Free bike useage and train tickets avail for purchase from the Hotel was a distinct advantage.

Review 77:Breakfast was not bad, but it could be better.

Review 78:Everything! This is the best hotel I have been to in a very long time. Location, pool, cleanliness, staff, etc.

Review 79:Train tickets must be validated at the station. We had bought a ticket and wouldn't have a clue, of these customs, the conductor who should have fined 50 euros for non validated ticket offered to charge only 5 euros per head. We walked away. So validate your tickets, thats all.

Review 80:I would have fair amount of experience in staying in hotels of various levels from 3-5 star. I have never experienced such an honest, friendly, warm service as in Clelia in my life. What happened to the Italian rudeness. There was none available in this hotel and area. This was my first time in Cinque Terre/Portofino area so we were quite clueless. The genuinely honest help we received, suggestions, tickets, restaurant suggestions and booking it for us etc. just blew me away. They couldn't do enough for us and it was effortless and efficient at the same time. The drinks in the room fridge were really fairly priced, it was great as you didn't mind just using it all the time for water rather than running to a shop near by. The pool area was fab! Hotels restaurant was just great and breakfast. Don't get me started on breakfast. Simple produce, like you would expect in 3 star, with added bonus of - wait - juicer with carrots, apples tomatoes, kiwis available for juicing, great egg thing for cooking your own pan of eggs, great coffee machine that was free anyway for most of the day. This place was full of those small positive surprises that will make your stay amazing. They really care. I would recommend this hotel and their staff for anyone hands down.

Review 81:I love the location though its slightly away from cinque terre but i enjoyed the quietness and deiva marina also have a nice beach on its own. I also love the food by restaurant clelia and enjoyed the fantastic service there especially by a staff name Luca! He definitely make my dining experience so much better!

Review 82:The staff went out of their way to help in every way. Alexandra was like a personal conssierge better than any 5 star hotel I have been in. It has made out holiday we will be back oh yes and the restaurant is very good

Review 83:Our room was over the kitchen and there was a bit of associated noise at night.

Review 84:Walking distance to the train station. In a lovely quiet town away from tourist traffic. Besutiful garden and pool.large room with tea and coffee facilities and a fridge. A great variety of food at breakfast. Classy restaurant. Free shuttle bus to station. Lovrly staff.

Review 85:Our only issues were that we were a little warm as most guests were cold so the heat was on instead of air conditioning. We opened our windows and were out during the day and it was comfortable at night.

Review 86:This was my second stay here and I chose it mainly for staff and location. The staff is very helpful and very knowledgable. Only a few spoke English but they really tried to communicate as clearly as possible. It's super close to the train and beach.

Review 87:That I only stayed for one night!

Review 88:The balcony to my room offered a lounge chair to overlook the pool. Lemon trees bordered my patio. The room offered a tea kettle to make tea/coffee and the little things made this place a refuge from the business of the other Cinque Terra sites. I loved walking to a beach that was 5 minutes away. The best breakfast ever! I even used their juicer to make fresh (celery/apple/carrot) juice, then I indulged in the huge assortment of items from cheeses, cereals, cakes, to eggs. The hotel is close to the train station and also offered an excellent restaurant for dinner on site. I'll be back!

Review 89:We wanted to spend three days in a nice environment. At the end we were dillusioned. The location is not great, there are much nicer towns close to Devia that i would have prefered to stay like Moneglia. Devia Marina is pretty dull and with no character. The price is pretty high for the location and services. For exmaple, breakfast was crowded and if an item was finished it was not replaced, so unless you arrrived for breakfast early, the breakfast quality would not be that great. I found the hotel overpriced for the quality of services offered.

Review 90:stuuf was friendly and always ready to help.

Review 91:Fantastic breakfast! Gelato shop right in the hotel. Super helpful and friendly staff, customer service was great! Remember to request a parking spot!

Review 92:We loved the amber of Hotel Clelia and would recommend it to any fellow Kiwi traveller who is exploring the Cinque Terra area. Excellent room well serviced with fantastic staff who can converse in English when our limited 'Italian' failed us. Food in the restaurant was very good with the best moules (mussels) I tasted in France & Italy. Close to rail station and handy to a nice beach with sand....great.

Review 93:The size of a standard room is small, very small. The size of the bathroom is even smaller. no coffee making facilities.

Review 94:This is a very nice hotel, both for families with children, as for couples. There is a nice atmosphere around the hotel, the pool, the verandah where one can sit out in the evening. Breakfast is sumptuous. Staff is helpful, kind and charming.

Review 95:The only thing that I could possibly comment on was the smallish shower. But it really wasn't a problem.

Review 96:Super friendly. Compared to some 4 stars hotels this place was better. Really close to the beach. Nice breakfasts and a great restaurant.

Review 97:Although breakfast was good and plentiful, the only downside was having to cook your own eggs and could prove dangerous if young children are around. Why not cook them in the kitchen??

Review 98:Hotel Clelia is a very comfortable hotel, set just 50 metres from the sea. We enjoyed an excellent dinner in the hotel, and the rooms are clean and very comfortable. Parking is very limited but the staff will do all they can to find secure parking for guests.

Review 99:Very comfortable bed, decor relaxing and good desk and view from window.Excellent staff and service. Had to leave very early on last day andstaff were very helpful and provided a packed breakfast to be collectedon our way out. Also location great so close to station and beach.

Review 100:Though Wifi was free, one had to constantly keep logging on withusername and password to keep access so it was a bit annoying. Thenagain, perhaps it was my smartphone. Just glad to have had free accessto wifi! Not too many hotels in Italy have this service.

Review 101:The hotel staff was wonderful and helpful. Room was clean and appearedwell maintained. A nice place to stay if you want to visit Cinque Terreas one is away from the crowds. Pretty, quiet, near a beautiful beachand the train station. Free wifi!

Review 102:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Great base from which to catch the train to visit Cinque Terre and Portofino nearby. Superb food in the restaurant in the evenings. Good breakfast included. Nice pool and surrounds. A great find. Would stay again.

Review 103:After giving our order, we waited for almost an hour before asking thewaiter when our food was coming. He reprimanded us for being impatient!Admittedly, the restaurant was very busy, but we found his attitude rudeand patronizing and it spoilt our evening.

Review 104:A pleasant hotel in an unexciting place, but convenient for the cinqueterre as the station was so close and the hotel could sell us traintickets. The room, pool and garden were delightful, quiet and secluded. The breakfast was outstanding and the food in the restaurant was alsovery good. The hotel staff were friendly and very professional. Weenjoyed our visit.

Review 105:The pool is advertised as heated but could have been warmer for May. I'm sure it's not an issue at all from June to August...

Review 106:Nice pool, great location if you want to visit the Cinque Terre towns. Nice and quiet, close to beach...

Review 107:Bathroom was small

Review 108:Very friendly staff, location was excellent, breakfast was generous, rooms very clean, and good size. Laundry cleaning facility for only 2euros.

Review 109:Very kind and helpful staff Excellent location to visit both Cinque Terre and Portofino Usual but larger breakfast spread Fantastic location with the station at a 2 minute walk

Review 110:For drivers using GPS beware when you exit the Autostrada. Use the signs to Deiva Marina rather than the GPS. If you use GPS and come to a very narrow underpass you are going the hard way. There is a safer, wide road that the signs point to. The hotel has limited on-site parking. During the non-tourist season [May to Sept] you can park free on the streets when the pay stations are covered with plastic. Our stay was in April.

Review 111:We liked the very friendly staff, dining at the hotel, it's proximity to the railroad station for short trips to the Cinque Terre about 15 minutes away, and the limited on-site parking. I've been to the Cinque Terre 3 times. This was the first time in Deiva Marina and I'd definitely make the Hotel Clelia my first choice for a return trip.

Review 112:Small bathroom, small and inconvenient parking and huge swimming pool instead. Strong fish fried smell in the lobby during the evening (the hotel has also a restaurant, which could explain this). Waiting time in restaurant before the ordered meal was brought.

Review 113:The hotel is nice and clean. The location is good (close to the train station for Cinque Terre).

Review 114:Great staff. Apart from being very helpful with trips around the area, they had a staff member bring our phone charger which we left in the room to us on the train station. The rooms were comfortable and clean.

Review 115:Very nice hotel, located in small village on a seaside. Has best restaurant in town. The rooms are convenient and spacious. The staff is great and really ready to help. The place is perfect for quite, relaxing time spending

Review 116:The place, I don't know whether the abandoned shopping centre right onthe beach is to be developed but it really does ruin the place. Onenight was enough, although only 13th September there was a real end ofseason atmosphere, on the way to somewhere else it was ok but Icertainly wouldn't risk going later in the year.

Review 117:Charming welcome, fantastic breakfast and really lovely room even thoughit was in the attic it really didn't matter.

Review 118:Location made it easy for train ride to Cinque Terra, and car trip to Portofino. The pool was great to relax in after the Cinque Terra five hour hike. Food at hotel was very good and not over priced.

Review 119:Being a ' 'tea drinker' I would have loved tea making facilities in the room but this is really being 'pressured' to make any negative comment at all.

Review 120:What a delightful oasis only a short train ride away from the bustle of the Cinque Terre towns. The hotel is a very short distance from the station (100m) but no noise from trains. The fresh and pretty room had a modern bathroom with bidet, free use of ironing facilities and our 'garden' balcony was the perfect private spot to relax (overlooking the sparkling pool). The extensive, all inclusive breakfast selection catered for every taste, even children making their own fresh juice or bacon and egg lovers cooking a full breakfast. Prices for dinner in the restaurant were reasonable and of high quality and service. Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly staff (even tiramisu and a pot of tea by the pool at midnight). The environment at the Hotel Clelia is delightful, excellent value for money. Highly recommend this lovely place and will be telling the friend who stays elsewhere in Deiva Marina to swap from now on!

The Fine Print

The hotel reserves the right to charge the full amount of the original booked stay for early departures. The rooms in the attic can be reached by climbing 15 steps.
